one direction history post: strange merch

hi everyone! i'm starting a small series of one direction history posts just to combine my interests in both history and the boys. these won't be super in depth, more so showing and telling. this first post is about some weird and strange merch choices one direction's marketing team has attempted to sell us throughout the years. i got these screenshots from the wayback machine looking at onedirectionstore.com, their official store. they are separated by era solely based on what was present on their shop at the time of each of the boys albums. these merch items are not a reflection of the albums themselves (which you'd think their merch team would try to appeal more to the aging fanbase as years went on), they all seem to me to be more geared toward how much they can attempt to get us buy. i now present to you the weirdest, most dated one direction merch i could find <3 enjoy

what is this for, who is this for, why is this one of the first accessory items ever posted on the one direction store??? what was the initial demographic of the one direction fanbase?? idk when i was 10 i didn't need this, i would enjoy one now though

i am only putting this mitam find in here to point out something that i found crazy. this shirt was on the one direction merch website only one month after march 25th, you can see how quickly their merch team shelled out merch without zayn on it. i didn't include anymore, but even their on the road again tour merch on the website quickly had zayn erased

i hope you guys all enjoyed this weird trip down memory lane if you can call it that, and liked looking at some of the weird merch their team used to sell. this is only stuff that stood out to me, i'm sure there's a lot more somewhere so if you have any, send them to me or feel free to add onto this post. if you own any of these, ESPECIALLY THE BIKE, please add a pic of them to this post lol

so while deep-cleaning my room and workspace, i finally got to some boxes in my closet filled with old notebooks, cds, magazines, and posters had growing up and i got slapped in the face with a gd goldmine of 2011-2012 era one direction magazine spreads

and i had so many magazine and album book-let cut-outs on my walls growing up and kept a lot of them when we moved in 2013—because i was, you know, 17—so i’m going to share this with y’all so we remember what it was like when 1d was everywhere and the public image they had was still so carefully constructed...all squeaky-clean, non-threatening, bubblegum-pop boys...

also to appreciate how much better their hair and outfits got over time because dklsfdgl although this was their Twink Prime hey got played so dirty with their styling idc if it was for branding...that shit was insulting

We're starting with this one because!!!! Louis looking stylishly scruffy and trendy and sexy and just everything that this photo is while attending an event for Children In Need is such a great overall picture to represent him. The turtleneck! The hair! The jacket! Just everything about this. This one's from 2019

This is number two just because it's my favourite outfit that he's ever worn. It's so cool and I just feel like the style matches him and his fashion sense so well, and in the pictures from this day he was all smiley which makes it even better.

Okay have you seen how gorgeous this man is?? This is a 2015 red carpet pic I believe. His eyes are mesmerising, but possibly more important is the glossy curl of hair coming down the left side of his face. Perfection.

(This is looking like it's going to be a long post because I'm going through my camera roll and there are just so many good Louis pics. My apologies, but also, you're welcome)

Next up is a pic with twink Louis in suspenders because How Could I Not. Of all the suspenders pics this is just my favourite ever because not only do we get pretty boy Louis with suspenders, we also get thick thighs and cute tummy and Louis on stage. An all around wonder and one of the many gifts that the UAN tour gave us.

Louis does this thing where he giggles and covers his mouth, and it makes my heart melt. I saw it written in fic first, and thought 'nobody does that in real life' but it turns out someone does!! And it's the sweetest thing you will ever see. We love a happy Louis. Plus, sweater paws.

If I had left this one out I might've had to just delete my entire blog. This is Louis at the 2014 AMAS. I don't even know if anything needs to be said about this one; it speaks for itself. He's magnificent.

The peaky blinders hair!! I actually love it once it's grown out a little, like it is in this photo. This picture also makes the cut because not only do we have wonderful hair, we also get sweater paws, soft smile, big comfy jumper, boop-able nose, those wide but slightly tired eyes, and Louis' signature peace sign. Soft and cozy vibes.

Okay another twink Louis pic because I just have to, okay! Circa 2011. Something about this one draws me in and makes me fall in love with him even more. I can't really put it into words. It's the denim jacket and the stripey t-shirt and his smile and the way he's sort of fixing his hair. But most importantly, the little slice of tummy that's visible.

We're ending on this one. This picture just makes me overwhelmingly happy. He's so cute and soft and genuine here. I love his smile.

Well that was way longer than I expected it to be. There are a bunch more that I would love to add (his lovely bum 🍑 deserves a mention) but I think then it might start to get a bit much haha. Hope you liked these ones :)))

so last night people were sharing stories of how they became larries and i thought i’d make a big (emphasis on big) ol list of them because i found them really fun to read

I've been a 1D fan since 2013 and my sister and i always thought that l&h looked so good together but only the bromance and we're like "omg larries destroyed their friendship poor eleanor 1!1!1!", then in 2015 the "i'm gay pretty unfortunate isn't eleanor ?" happened and i was like WHAAT???? and i ended up searching more and more about larry (bc it was the only thing that came to my mind) and i found the videos and then i told my sister and then here we are.

I became a larrie because someone in my dash who rarely post about 1D posted the first louis/fred pic and tagged it babygate. So I went looking into the tag and found everything. I had doubt but then i saw the moment where H touch L arm and i was in! I actually became a fan of the music after. I've done everything in reverse with this band! But when i entered the fandom in feb2016 and i was hopping to see it all end like a month later! But hey, still here! And loving it mostly! End it!

it was 2011 and my friend told me she had found a really good song and the singers were so cute, she showed me wmyb video and i spent the whole day listening to it and then in the evening i wanted to find out more about these 5 guys. i started watching video diaries ans i was looking for the next one but i accidentally clicked "best larry moments" video aaand the rest is history

That was around the time bg was still a fresh wound and I'll never forget it bc it was so nice to hear it and also my hangover was a bitch.

I got interested in 1D right after their last concert, like right on Halloween. I became a Larrie that very same day too, right after i read Dan Wattpad's infamous "Harry and Louis hate each other". I saw articles floating around saying how they were enemies, reason for Zayn leaving...blah blah. I was sceptical, then i came across the famous OTRA hug, and i was like, no fucking way they hate each other, not with how they are hugging. I then delved into YT and discovered freddieismyqueen. Bless.

I joined july 2014 (2 months after they 've passed my country ouch) and was instantly hooked because this shit is like crack. Today I'm the darkest larrie that exists preaching the word for everyone who'll listen. I can WAIT for their CO because I have a party prepared? I literally have a wine since 2014 in my cellar that I'm only going to open the day they're free, I have nauthical theme stocked for the party. My friends just know that they have to come and that I'll be crying the whole month!!

weirdly enough i became a larry cos of that stupid channel 4 documentary id never heard of larry or gay shipping or whatever before that and i saw that and i was very mr krabs meme and i looked into it saw that it wasn't evil and gross like they were portraying it and never turned back

I became a fan of the boys 4 years ago.
