"To the people who say that she's brought it onto herself... that she's done everything wrong. I want to know where do you get your sources from besides the tabloids."
"From the day that it was announced that she was marrying Harry, the tabloids hated her, which means the people who believe everything the tabloids say have hated her."

Alright so over the last couple of weeks with the Depp vs Heard trial going in i've seen a lot of people reference the 2020 uk verdict on the Sun newspaper labelling Johnny Depp a wife beater.
i just need people to know that the sun newspaper cannot be fucking trusted as far as an ant could throw it. it is an absolute dogshit masquerading as journalism
the sun called the aids epidemic a 'us gay blood plague' & offered to pay for all gay 'poofs' to leave the country. they lied about the hillsborough disaster for 25 years & backed the lying police. they backed margaret thatcher through her whole prime ministership. they were hugely involved in the phone hacking scandal.
the sun newspaper is also incredibly powerful in the uk. it's very difficult to go up against them. that's partly why Elton John's win against them is so famous
also the laws were changed in 2013 & made it easier for newspapers to win libel cases
the Depp case in the uk was against the sun newspaper on the use of the word wife beater. all they had to do was show that any of the information they had received as journalistic sources for the story was 'substantially sufficient' for a civil case to win. they did not need to prove abuse allegations to any criminal degree to win. please read exactly what the judge concluded was 'substantially sufficient' to understand exactly what newspapers are allowed to do in the uk.
so whatever you want to say about the current case, please know that the sun newspaper is a vile piece of shit organisation & no court case will ever change that

^^^ Damn. How come I didn’t hear about this on NPR or read about it in the New York Times? 😆
Of course this article from the UK’s Sunday Sport has all the credibility of the Kremlin’s reports of glorious Russian victories in its invasion of Ukraine.
Perhaps the Sunday Sport is attempting to trigger Putin who is a notorious homophobe. If it distracts him from committing war crimes for a short while it will have been worth the paper and ink. I don’t think it was intended to disrespect the trans community.
Ukraine should buy up a bunch of copies of this tabloid and scatter them by drone around concentrations of Russian troops. Then they would have to arrest each other for being in violation of Russia’s homophobic anti-LGBTQ laws.

I find it genuinely hilarious how the idea of Irish reunification scares people.
I say hilarious, more like baffling.
Now I understand why some may be nervous or hesitant. I get that. That’s fine. Understandable even.
That’s not what I’m referring to.
I’m referring more to certain people in Ireland (partitionists) who start frothing and shrieking about the PIRA, “those bastards”, and terrorism if you do so much as mention it.
And no, I’m not acting as an apologist for terrorists.
If YOU think Irish republicanism is inherently evil and terroristic, that’s your problem and it says more about you than anything else. Fix your hearts or die! Starting yesterday!
It’s like the very concept sends them into a feral rage. They start panicking and resorting to all kinds of mental gymnastics to shut the idea down.
The ones who call themselves progressive and then start spouting British establishment myths and propaganda about Ireland as if they were an irrefutable truth. They’re a key component.
Sometimes they’re just straight up reactionaries instead who think that Irish republicanism is just a stupid meme, despite being a real political movement with goals and aspirations. (I’ve run into one here)
The historical illiteracy is off the charts with these types.
Other ones include loyalists in the north, though they react similarly to just about anything what doesn’t fit their narrow, parochial, small minded, genocidal, bloodthirsty, stupid, anthropocentric, insular, nihilistic, racist, jingoistic, miserable, stagnant, anachronistic, selfish, arrogant, bigoted, supremacist, monocultural world views, beliefs and aspirations.
Also British Tories and pathologically deranged Scottish loyalists too. And the tabloid press in Israel for some bizarre reason (I’m not quite sure why), also the UK tabloids but that should go without saying.
They seem to view the idea as some kind of ultimate irredeemable sin what dare not even be thought about or else.
It’s hilarious and sickening to behold.

Prince Harry's uncle, Charles Spencer, shows his support for Harry's case. Charles Spencer, brother of Princess Diana, shared former Labour adviser Alistair Campbell's tweets about the case via Twitter & Instagram.
One of the tweets was about the dangers of reading about Harry's case via UK media sources, which clearly have an agenda against Prince Harry.

A warning to all media organisations’: Prince Harry’s statement on Mirror Group ruling
Duke of Sussex describes slow and painful road to justice as judge rules extensive hacking took place
Prince Harry has landed a significant blow in his battle with the British tabloid press after winning a substantial part of his phone-hacking case and damages against the Daily Mirror. This is the statement read outside the court by his lawyer:
“Today is a great day for truth as well as accountability. The court has ruled that unlawful and criminal activities were carried out at all three of Mirror Group’s newspaper titles (the Mirror, the Sunday Mirror and the People) on a habitual and widespread basis for more than a decade.
“I’d like to thank my legal team for so successfully dismantling the sworn testimony of Mirror Group Newspapers’ senior executives, legal department and journalists, who at least turned up to court, unlike their colleagues, who were perhaps too afraid to do so.
“This case is not just about hacking: it is about a systemic practice of unlawful and appalling behaviour, followed by coverups and destruction of evidence, the shocking scale of which can only be revealed through these proceedings.
“The court has found that Mirror Group’s principal board directors, their legal department, senior executives and editors, such as Piers Morgan, clearly knew about, or were involved in, these illegal activities. Between them, they even went as far as lying under oath to parliament, during the Leveson inquiry, to the stock exchange, and to us all ever since.

“The journey to justice can be a slow and painful one, and since bringing my claim almost five years ago, defamatory stories and intimidating tactics have been deployed against me and at my family’s expense. And so, as I too have learned through this process, patience is in fact a virtue – especially in the face of vendetta journalism.
“I hope that the court’s findings will serve as a warning to all media organisations who have employed these practices and similarly lied about them. Mirror Group’s actions were so calculated and misleading that their pattern of destroying evidence and concealing their unlawful behaviour continued into the litigation itself and, as the judge has ruled, even to this day.
“I am happy to have won the case, especially given that this trial only looked at a quarter of my entire claim. Even on just that, it is clear Mirror Group’s persistent attempts to suggest that my claim was, to quote their counsel, ‘fantastical’ and was in the ‘realms of total speculation’ and that there was ‘simply no evidence at all’ to suggest I was hacked – ‘zilch, zero, nil, nada, niente, absolutely nothing’ – were total nonsense and were used maliciously to attack my character and credibility.
“However, as Mirror Group intended, these hollow soundbites were blasted across front pages and across online platforms, and into the next day’s morning television shows. The court has in fact confirmed that all four claimants were subjected to voicemail interception and unlawful information gathering. But no one would have believed that was the case given how this trial has been covered in the UK.
“My commitment to seeing this case through is based on my belief in our need and collective right to a free and honest press, and one which is properly accountable when necessary. That is what we need in Britain and across the globe. Anything else is poisoning the well for a profession we all depend on. The acts listed in this judgment are prime examples of what happens when the power of the press is abused.
“I respectfully call upon the authorities – the financial regulator; the stock market who were deliberately deceived by Mirror Group; and indeed the Metropolitan police and prosecuting authorities – to do their duty for the British public and investigate bringing charges against the company and those who have broken the law.
“Today’s ruling is vindicating and affirming. I’ve been told that slaying dragons will get you burned. But in light of today’s victory and the importance of doing what is needed for a free and honest press – it’s a worthwhile price to pay. The mission continues.”
“Today’s ruling is vindicating and affirming. I’ve been told that slaying dragons will get you burned. But in light of today’s victory and the importance of doing what is needed for a free and honest press – it’s a worthwhile price to pay. The mission continues.”
Thats one hell of a quote

We had a discussion at work about royalty and monarchy, arising from the last season of The Crown, in which I spoke about the media-framed narrative and the entrapment of tradition, monarchy being an unhealthy place to bring up children, etc, using observations and points almost entirely refined through participation in Young Royals fandom.
Thank you all for providing me with excellent points for discussion 😀

Apparently Charles toasted Harry and his family at the coronation buffet and its just, “Whether you are...” He’s acting like Harry and his family just disappeared into thin air when in reality, Harry attended the coronation and quickly left to get back to his family as it was Archie’s birthday, something Charles knew but can’t continue to lead the tabloids to trash Harry and Meghan and their kids if he didn’t continue to do this type of shit...

Not that this really surprises anyone, but it's still pretty damned low even for them.
(Coming from someone who remembers the US political atmosphere around the AIDS Crisis a little too well. 😑)
