i know we hate the term "unalive" on tumblr because it's a symbol of the censorship that reigns on tiktok, but consider that it is, for all intents and purposes, the most hilarious word ever.
like im sorry.
you unalived that little shit - come on, peak comedy.
you didn't kill that little shit. you didn't make him die. you didn't inflict mortal wounds upon him.
you just straight up undid his ass. you unlived his life.
you uncreated him. unexisted him. you stopped his past, present, and future.
you unwound him.
it's kinda funny, and mostly siiiick.

“Unalive” was funny when I was 14 and Deadpool said it in that one episode of Ultimate Spider-Man. It hasn’t been funny since

I don't dislike self-censorship terms like "unalive" because they're cringy, I dislike them because I don't think advertisers should be able to shape how we talk about certain subjects. Survivors of abuse or other traumatic experiences should not have to make up new words because platforms are scared of chasing away advertisers. Minorities should able able to discuss their experiences with stuff like discrimination without censoring themselves. Queer people should be able to use their preferred terms without a website blocking their posts because a trans person used the word "transgender". we should be able to discuss real world events either ongoing or historical without having to water things down for advertisers. These new words have left the internet and become things people use in real life, and I din't think advertising companies should have the power to dictate our language to us.

TikToker who talks about people being "unalive" and you think she's just censoring the word "kill" but she's actually talking about vampires

"The idea of being punished by an invisible force for saying a bad word is literally something I was terrified of in Catholic school and it’s creepy that corporate sponsors are living in kids’ heads the way God and Satan lived in ours."
This legitimately took the air out of me when I read it. Absolutely horrifying parallel, and you're completely right.
Picture it: Scranton, Pennsylvania
The year: 2033
A young boy closes out of his Zoom classes for the day, and his mind burns with a terrible secret, a sin he has committed. His grandmother has recently passed away, and he made the mistake of informing his class using the word he had only ever heard come from the mouth of adults: “died”.
Awkward silence and discomfort were palpable from his classmates even over zoom, and for once that discomfort didn’t seem to be coming from the plague of radiation enhanced locusts outside of their windows forcing them to stay home.
“Do you mean she is… unalive?” His friend asks him in a private chat bubble, and he realizes what he has done.
Later that day, burning with guilt and unable to focus on providing content for the school assigned neurolink headset he wears to upload his homework to directly from his mind, he realizes something must be done about this. He has done wrong, and something deep inside of him tells him that he has sinned in the eyes of his corporate sponsors.
He doesn’t have any corporate sponsors or even know what a corporate sponsorship is because he is seven, but it is something he feels within his bones and deep within his soul, the invisible force he knows will punish him for saying a bad word.
With a heavy heart and shaking hands he does the only thing he can think to do. He goes to X and finds the corporate page he thinks will be his best bet for receiving absolution.
He tags @ the company and begins to type “Forgive me Raid Shadow Legends, for I have sinned…”

When I go, I hope you think of me softly…
Sick to my stomach I fight the tears welling up inside me. There’s no one to blame but myself.
I hate what they’ve done, I hate what I’ve done, I hate who I am, I hate being alive.
My mind rewinds and erases memories that should never be forgotten, yet sticks to what could have been. Protection? Maybe. Annoying? Yes. Maybe daydreaming of what could have been is the only way to keep me sane, yet I find myself spiraling. every. time.
why am I still stuck on this. On you? Therapy, drugs, hospitalizations, medications, all proved useless to forget.
Suicide. I’ve attempted. But I’m always left with what if? What if one day you’ll change your mind. What if one day I see you again? Pathetic enough, those possibilities have kept me around. maybe I’ll change that.
“If one day, we have our own families, I’ll tell my children about you. My first love who I’ll never forget.” I’m gut wrenched.
Blades and all, I slash through your haunting memory. Blood seeps as I weep.
I lie across the steel, uncomfortable, but ready. All I have to do now is wait.
Thank you to everyone who is concerned. This is an old writing of mine and I’m in recovery. 💛

"It's too late doctor, he's been enshittified. There's no saving him." Gestures to former friend who's currently reciting an add, as he does every five to ten sentences. He will slap you if you say the word 'kill' in front of him.

Unalive -- A Love Letter
I came across the word unalive first in a tumblr post. Reading it several times over, I got that it showed distaste for the term but was yet unaware of its censorship-roots and tik-tok popularity. For a split moment before my mind caught up and started thinking, my non-native-English-speaker brain went “new word; un + alive; looks like [unsee—unsex]; associated with [impossible—reality-shifting]” and I fell in love a little. No, no, I fell hard in love, lots in love, okay, with unalive. Sorry. I know it’s a bad word.
But unsee, unsex — the one who wishes to unsee is the one that has seen, when Lady Macbeth asks to be unsexed it is to higher god-like powers, unalive suggests; the hand that kills had a hand in a-living you in the first place. The Cambridge Dictionary defines unsee as “to return to a situation in which you have not seen something” to unalive would be “to return someone to a situation in which they have not been alive” ;;; this is TERRIFYING actually. It is worse than being merely killed.
What the hell is unalive. What the hell happened. It’s so grammatically weird, I’m not sure it’s a verb or a noun. An action upon someone or a state of being.
Oh, Oscar, he’s —
unalive? analive?
it’s not that he’s dead but
he’s the opposite of what he was.
unalived?
see, something grabbed through Oscar and turned the organs inside out/or his soul, inside-out
he’s been — hallowed — unalived — was it “hollowed”? — claimed back — taken a-way and a-part —un-a-live-d — his living license got revoked — we got a call from God — It said “we’re gonna have to have to have to; unalive Oscar” — emptied out — unalived.
We’ll forget he ever was here soon.
