Episode 9 Rei smile count (or smile frames count) and why

Miri thanks him for the rice balls he's made

2. About to beat everyone's asses in Miri's sake with Kazuki

3. He keeps smiling as he runs!

4. Happy he fulfilled Miri's wish and helped her win

5. Still same smile as the earlier one, but gosh this frame is so beautiful

6. Happy after race that he made her smile

7. Smiling both at the fact that Miri considers him her family and just the peaceful moment they all share (Miri laughing, Kazuki moved to tears)

9. Not exactly a smile, but we've never seen such a peaceful look on his face. It's like he's wearing this very gentle smile just like the sunshine falling on him and his beloved family

Let's be serious. This episode is a huge moment for Rei. He knows what he wants to do. He wants to be with Miri and Kazuki. He wants to protect Miri, doesn't want any harm happen to her if not the two of them (Miri + Kazuki). Let's just hope he doesn't suddenly disappear after watching Miri asleep and thinking that for her best he should abandon them. And if that does happen, he better come back and do everything in his power to find a way for them to be together.
