A viral video shows the lifeless body of the victim said to be in Physical Sciences Department as he was being carried into a Hilux van by security personnel of the institution. Leadership reports that the incident led to pandemonium across the entire University community as students, staff and visitors to the University ran for their dear lives as sound of gunshots rented the air. It was gathered that the sad incident may not be unconnected to cultism. The victim’s remains were said to be deposited in an undisclosed mortuary. Gunmen suspected to be cultists have killed a final-year student of University of Benin (UNIBEN) identified simply as Desmond. The deceased popularly known as ‘Mayor’ was shot dead in his room at the Hall 3 Hostel at about 9pm on Monday, April 3, 2023. The late student was said to be in the Department of Public Administration and a Kegite chief. A student who pleaded anonymity said the deceased was shot in the face at point-blank range. "The killing of Desmond has caused panic in the school. Students are even afraid to stay in the hostel. He was shot in the face and had no chance to survive the attack.” the student said. By • Olalekan Fagbade One person Killed, 3 others njured in fresh University Cult War Tragedy struck at the University of Benin (UNIBEN) on Friday as a renewed cult clash claimed the life of a 500-level student of the institution. According to reports, the student was shot dead inside the University campus, while three other students of the institution sustained various degrees of injury during the cult attack. As of press time, it was reported that the injured students have been rushed to a hospital for treatment. The cult clash reportedly began when the rampaging cult group members stormed the Anatomy Department back gate to kill their target before they proceeded to Physical Science and Laboratory Department. It was gathered that the deceased student was shot at a close range in his car while the three others were shot while they were trying to escape. The incident caused panic among the students and staff on the campus as they scampered for safety. According to sources, the rival fight began in Ekiadolor area, a suburb of the school, some days ago during which about three persons were allegedly killed. The fight later spread to the Ugbowo campus of the institution. A viral video of the incident showed a red car with bullet holes. The body of a man was seen removed from the car and taken to the back of a pick-up van. The Police Public Relations Officer in the state, SP Chidi Nwabuzor, said he was yet to be informed about the incident. “I am yet to be briefed of such an incident.
