Honestly, I love Edo Gajeel for how he doesn’t overstay his welcome. They’re both very practical people, and they immediately split up once they decide to work together. It moves the mission along immediately, and keeps this anime addition to the story as short as possible.

Also, Edo Gajeel intrigues me very much for how his character is used. 

He has roots in the Kingdom and the Exceed??? I dearly feel Mashima wanted to do a tiny bit more with that detail but didnt get to connect the dots before the arc was over in the anime, because that literally implies he has spies. A Kingdom spy and a freaking Exceed spy. That is crazy for a world where almost no Exceeds see humans as equals. And which Kigdom guard is contributing to exposing its corruption?? Ideas ideas.

Anyways.

His design feels silly, his character is slightly lame, but he’s the coolest damn guy in Edolas. I love that. He’s smart enough to understand situations and act accordingly, even if it puts him into trouble with public opinion. 

I can’t help but admire a character like this. And it makes me really happy (and a little sad) to know that Gajeel’s perfect partner in a mission is himself. Honestly this is how all the Edolas equivalents should be-- his counterpart can do everything he can’t, so together, they're a complete unit that can achieve anything. 

I do wonder how Gajevy could be, if Mashima emphasized a bit more on Levy’s clever wit, and less on how protectable and little she is.

It's said that Leona's father is still alive but sick so Leona's older brother-Farena is temporarily ruling the kigdom so in fact he is not a king yet. It is also said that Farena has problems with uniting the different races together because of the cultural differences, etc. Also there is a huge huge class inequality: Ruggie grew up and probably still lives in slums. But it gave me an idea that maybe Leona actually has a chance to become a king. If he does something significant(like solving these problems) that would be a proof that he is better than his brother, maybe people will notice that he has qualities to be a king? It reminds me those struggles for the throne in manhwas, where there is a not really competent first-born prince and then suddenly a second-born becomes active and does things to people to love and support him and then a second-born becomes an heir instead of the first-born. I believe that Leona is intelligent enough to become a ruler but it will be impossible if in their kingdom you can become a king only if you are a first-born, no matter how good is the second-born. Also there are already metioned traditions in event for the second-borns so my silly little theory probably becomes indeed silly. Also we shouldn't forget that Leona is based on Scar so he might be close to becoming a king(hopefully using different methods) but failing anyways. He is a "villain" and there already were at least 2 situations in the game when our boys lost to "heroes" (Pomefiore arc and Epel's hometown event and losing to RSA for 100 times straight). But we'll see...
