wei wuxian opening up to lan wangji at the foot of the burial mounds about why he can't simply stop cultivating the ghost path was his cat equivalent of rolling on his back and exposing his stomach while trusting lwj would not touch it

Fic Finder
~*~
1. Hello! I’m hoping to find a specific fic, which is narrated from the POV of a mail delivery person from a small sect. They observed how Lan Wangji came to mail a letter every year to Wei Ying after his death, and came to see the melancholy and longing that Wangji had. They were not able to deliver the letters but they kept it. Eventually they didn’t see Wangji come to mail his letter on a particular year, but out of duty, the mail delivery person went to Cloud Recess to deliver the letters he kept. And there, he met Wangji and Wei Ying.
It’s a beautifully written fic that I read years ago, but for the life of me I can’t remember the name. I did a lot of searching on my bookmarks but can’t find it. I would really appreciate it if someone can point me to the right direction!
Thanks so much. @tacitanovember
FOUND! you’ve got to find a way, say what you want to say by Quixiote (T, 12k, wangxian, outsider pov, 13 years of WWX’s death, letters)

7. Good day! There's this fic that I've read before and I forgot what tag/s I used to bookmark it. I only remember bits of details. So, the scene that I remember is during the sects were trapped in the burial mounds—that chapter when the juniors were kidnapped—yiling patriarch wwx was sleeping (or dead?) at the blood pool(?). Then the present wwx came to dead/yp!wwx to wake him up (something like that) so they can save the others from the puppets. It is before they go to Lotus Pier. I think there's also a scene where they tried to save him (yp!wwx) that they cant leave him alone at the burial mounds or smth. Im sorry, that all I can recall but I really want to find it again. Thank you!

8. I’m looking for the fic where little WWX is in Cloud Recesses and little LWJ is like “gonna marry him” and when he’s told “no” he finds different ways to tie his ribbon to little WWX until the adults give in?
are you sure it's Cloud Recesses? bc if you are not sure, this sounds like the Sami fic where Jiang Yanli travels back in time, but that part of the fic takes place at Lotus Pier

16. Hello, this is the first time I do not know if this info will be enough. I read a modern au short fic before in which wwx have a terrible eye sight and memory. Every time he goes to Lan house he will go somewhere different from what he is looking for. Like he is supposed to go to a restroom but ended up in a kitchen. Lan Qiren then said to LWJ that his boyfriend might be a thief because he is always found somewhere he did not say he will go. Then when lqr visited lwj and wwx's house, he found out that wwx got lost even to his own house. Like he cannot even find the mug and lwj has to say where it is. Lwj then said to lqr that it is because wwx got into an accident when he was a child, the same day he lost his parents. That is the reason for his terrible memory and eye sight. After that, lqr became soft to wwx. And every time Wangxian visited the Lan house. He will help wwx find what he is looking for.
Thank youuu @yunshenlianhua

agents of shield x mdzs au
This is the qUaLitY content y’all get from this blog. Also see me spamming friend about this AU. It’s junior-centered, with a dash of wangxian. This is basically a more in-depth version of what I gave my friend lol
After getting kicked out of SHIELD for questionable experiments involving Kree blood, Wei Wuxian was spying on Hydra (lead by Wen Ruohan) by infiltrating them as a scientist. However, being Wei Wuxian, he neglected to tell anyone since he got kicked out, so everyone thought he betrayed them.
So he’s at Hydra, befriending Wen Qing & Ning, and realizes that they’re good people.
But he got caught giving info to Director LXC, so Wei Wuxian makes his grand escape. He may have accidentally knocked over a terrigenesis crystal while trying to escape the Nightless City.
The terrigenesis crystal may have turned a little boy into an Inhuman (the first time anyone went through terrigenesis) and that little boy (Wen Yuan) may have accidentally burnt down the entire Nightless City.
At least, that’s how WWX explains it to Lan Wangji when he gives LWJ a child to take care of.
So, with Wen Yuan in SHIELD custody, Lan Wangji adopts him & renames him Lan Sizhui. He’s still a child (I don’t know why I keep referring to him as a little boy?? He’s like 12-ish??).
So Wei Wuxian goes off to re-join the remnants of HYDRA because they let him experiment in peace & he gets to keep an eye on them for SHIELD (even though he’s an ex-agent).
But before that, he vouches for WQ & WN to join SHIELD. And though many people there are suspicious, they do have a vacant spot for a doctor now that Dr. Wei is gone & WQ is quite good. They bring WN along too.
Meanwhile: Lan Jingyi is getting abused my his mother & his dad is working across the country so life is quite sucky for him.
Thankfully, his family has connections to one Lan Xichen (who learns about the abuse eventually) and Jingyi gets into SHIELD Academy. What he doesn’t know is that he comes from a line of people with Inhumans genes.
Which may or may not how been why Xichen was visiting.
Anyways, Sizhui & Jingyi meet at SHIELD Academy (both around 13-14?) and Lan Qiren is about to get more headaches.
Eventually, he (now 16) gets told why he was accepted on the first place & asked if he’d like to go through terrigenesis. He’s like “ok” and boom vocal mind control.
That’s actually inaccurate; he has the power to manipulate people with his voice. He has to learn how to control it though.
Wei Wuxian rejoins SHIELD! Lan Sizhui meets the person who saved him all those years ago. yay.
Little did they know, Wei Wuxian was expieriemnting with terrigenesis while he was gone but shhhhhhh-
Now onto Jin Ling’s backstory, cause his is a doozy.
Jiang Yanli got Inhuman genes from her mother. So did jc, but his powers & stuff come into play later. Wwx is their adopted bro, but due to circumstances that will be explained later, Wwx & jc are estranged.
Jyl and jzx raise jl for most of his younger childhood (until he’s about 7-8) when evil HYDRA people come in & kill jzx and kidnap jyl for Inhuman experimentation. Note, she has the genes but isn’t an Inhuman (yet).
Ling is very sad and Jiang Cheng swoops in to take him in. Jc actually worked at as a SHEILD agent back from before lxc was Director (coughxichengcough) but left when his sister was kidnapped so he could try to track her down & save her. Instead he gets his nephew.
Jc also takes over his parents’ buisness to get a source of income.
And jc goes through the woes of being a parent up until he also gets kidnapped by HYDRA. Jl also gets nabbed, but HYDRA separates them
Wwx may have been expierimenting but he tries to do it without hurting any of them, and he validates it because he prevented many people from getting cut open by explaining to the HYDRA heads that they’re most useful alive. It somehow works.
In fact, wwx is assigned to jl. The HYDRA people know wwx’s relation to jc & jyl, so they don’t tell wwx that they kidnapped jc & jyl or that they’re literally in the same facility.
Since wwx was assigned to jl, he basically helps him undergo terrigenesis and tries to determine his power.
Wwx also doesn’t know that jl is kinda his nephew. But he pities him, so he maybe helps jl escape, but in a way so that no one realizes it because he still has his cover to maintain.
(also, I forgot to mention: jyl’s kidnapping caused jc & wwx to become estranged).
So wwx may have had a very loud conversation near jl’s cell about some of the exits and also teaches jl the basics on his Inhuman ability. maybe the device he uses to control jl’s powers happened to malfunction in the middle of the night.
Ling, not knowing that wwx is helping him, uses his power (energy manipulation) to break out and makes a run for it.
He manages to escape (wwx had a very detailed convo about the building’s layout) and gets the hell out of there.
Jl’s smart enough to realize that since HYDRA knows where he lives, that he probably shouldn’t go back home.
He really wants to get his uncle back (and maybe his mom, but he’s not sure she’s still alive) but has like no idea how to use his power to do anything except bomb stuff. & that only works like half the time.
Jin Ling is about to kill a bitch but then he remembers that his uncle gave him an address to go to if anything ever happened (remember, jc is an ex-SHIELD agent so bad things happen quite a lot).
Meanwhile, despite his carefulness, wwx got caught and HYDRA is deciding whether or not he will die. Wwx, being the genius he is, takes all his stuff and gets the fuck outta there.
He decides to go visit his kinda-boyfriend (that he may or may not have been ignoring for like 13 years), lwj back at SHIELD. He also wants to see how the Wen siblings are doing.
So WWX goes back to SHIELD, only about an hour before Ling arrives. In jl’s defense, he had no idea that the entrance to a secret government organization was a quaint little music shop.
He just kinda... walks in, and everyone is freaking bc they have been breached but sees him and thinks “huh he kinda looks like jc” and then lxc thinks “oh no what happened this time”
Lxc introduces himself and jl (being the second best matchmaker here, second to only lxc) accidentally reveals that jc talked about him before.
Lxc is pleasantly surprised (gay) and asks jl to come with him into his office so that they can... chat.
On their way, they pass by the science lab. Wei Wuxian, who just came back to base, is happily walking along with Lan Sizhui, when all hell breaks loose.
Remember when I said that wwx was quite secretive about helping? And that jl is still upset bc he never got his uncle back and he can’t lose another family member, not to them?
So obviously jl does what anyone would if you saw the guy who forced you to undergo a life-changing event and was involved in the organization that kidnapped two of his family members and killed his dad: he attaccs.
If you also remember, I mentioned that jl has no fucking clue what he’s doing. All he knows is energy and boom boom.
And the mini-explosions only work in close range, from what he’s seen. So in his anger, he unlocks a new skill: energy shots.
Wei Wuxian took cover like the second he realized who was attempting to kill him and screaming at the others not to kill his assailant no matter how annoying he was.
Lan Wangji sadly wasn’t at base, but Sizhui was, and he can certainly hold his own against Ling, especially since Sizhui has had more time to train with his power.
Luckily, Jingyi swoops in & uses his voice to force jl to stop. They handcuff him and lxc drags him away into his office.
It’s safe to say that the science lab corridor is fried.
That’s basically how jl got introduced to SHIELD (he eventually joins and learns the truth about wwx, which makes all their past interactions quite awkward).
Now we have Zizhen, who comes into the story after the two Lans have become agents but before the whole Jin Ling fiasco occurs.
Sizhui & Jingyi were sent to see if Agent Ouyang Xingyun (@yoitsamy’s oc older sis of oyzz)‘a family knew where she was because she was on a undercover mission & didn’t check in with her contact last week. + she didn’t contact SHIELD so Director LXC was worried.
They look through the window and everything is a mess, so they kick down the door and try to find anyone. The whole place is torn apart, like people were fighting there.
In the upstairs bedroom, they find Ouyang Zizhen & four of his younger siblings huddled together in a corner, protected by a forcefield-like shield. Once they realize the Lans aren’t a threat, the go back to SHIELD HQ and put in a room there until they can figure out wtf was going on.
Apparently, Zizhen unlocked his powers w/o terrigenesis when they got attacked by someone who was looking for his sister and used it to protect his siblings. They hadn’t seen their big sister in weeks.
So the Lans have a new case to solve, SHIELD has two new Inhumans with off circumstances, and Lan Wangji is one Xichen away from killing Jin Ling.

More of LWJ is forced to accept an engagement to Nie Huaisang to keep A-Yuan.
part 1 + on AO3
Whatever else he had become, Lan Xichen still did not lie. Before the day was over, A-Yuan had been brought to the Jingshi. The boy had been too quiet, too calm. He had smiled when Lan Wangji told him that they would live together, that he would be his father, but the smile had been so uncertain it had broken his heart.
That boy who wasn’t even quite four had already suffered too much.
But as days and weeks passed, A-Yuan started smiling more easily, though he remained quieter than Lan Wangji remembered him being. He dared not ask his son about his time in the Burial Mounds and the siege. If A-Yuan ever mentioned it in the future then Lan Wangji would answer all his questions. Until then, perhaps some things were best left forgotten.
While Lan Wangji did not ask questions, A-Yuan had plenty of curiosity to offer. Even without speaking, he found ways to make it clear when he wanted to be told about something. He really was Wei Wuxian's son. They might not have the same blood, but A-Yuan shared his father's eagerness to learn and understand, and would not give up until he had been given an explanation of some sort.
It was important, anyway, to encourage children to learn and expand their mind, or so said some of his readings.
Lan Wangji had known Wei Wuxian would never come to Gusu, but he had still set out to learn a little about raising children. The thought had crossed his mind sometimes that he could drop everything and go to Yiling. He had only stopped himself out of consideration for his sect, and because he had been unsure Wei Wuxian would have wanted him there. Still, he had prepared for it, reading about farming, about being a parent. If things had come to that, he would have been ready.
He had not gone to live in Yiling, but his preparations had not been entirely useless in the end. It helped him do his best for A-Yuan.
And so life, like this, wasn’t so bad. Not great (never great, not when Wei Wuxian was dead and the world would have danced on his tomb, had he been given one) but still not bad, and that was something.
Lan Wangji, safe inside his house with his son, having no visitor but the servant who brought their meals and the healer who took care of his back, might have forgotten that this fragile peace would need to be paid for.
After nearly two months had passed, his brother came one evening to announce that Nie Mingjue had arrived in Cloud Recesses to negotiate the engagement. As per Lan Wangji’s request, he had brought Nie Huaisang with him so the future spouses might have a conversation.
“If you wish, I can arrange for someone to watch over Lan Yuan,” Lan Xichen offered. “I imagine the discussion might turn to subjects that do not concern a child.”
Lan Wangji carefully considered the offer. He knew that his brother was thinking of marital arrangements, but there was little to speak of. They would be husbands in name only. If Nie Huaisang appeared to expect more, Lan Wangji would make his lack of interest clear or find ways to stop this ridiculous engagement from happening. A-Yuan was young enough that he would not understand this.
But if they spoke of Wei Wuxian… It seemed too soon to expose A-Yuan to the reputation of the man who had adopted him.
At the same time, the idea of A-Yuan away from him was unbearable. Who could he trust with his son in the Lan sect, especially as they were all planning this marriage he did not want?
Two months with his son only confirmed what Lan Wangji had already suspected. There was little he wouldn’t do for his child, for Wei Wuxian’s child. Until the marriage was secured and he had fulfilled his part of the deal, Lan Wangji could not take risks.
“Lan Yuan will stay,” he announced at last.
The Jingshi was large enough anyway, and A-Yuan was a good child. If Lan Wangji asked him to stay put and play quietly, he would.
It was clearly not the answer Lan Xichen had been hoping for, but he nodded calmly and did not insist. Perhaps he understood Lan Wangji’s fears, once again.
That should have been the end of their conversation, but Lan Xichen lingered a moment more. There was something very much like uncertainty on his face. An unusual expression coming from him. Lan Wangji was ready to enquire about that, but his brother spoke first.
“Wangji, tomorrow… be kind to Nie Huaisang.”
Lan Wangji shot his brother a surprised look, but Lan Xichen would not meet his eyes.
“He did not choose this any more than you did,” his brother stated. “I have reasons to suspect he wants this as little as you do. But... we were all born into power. It comes at a cost that we must be willing to pay.”
Lan Wangji did not ask what price his brother had paid for his position. The answer no longer interested him.
After this, his brother did not stay long. It was no surprise. Lan Xichen had never liked that house to begin with.
In the morning, A-Yuan was given some toys and told to stay out of his father’s room until Lan Wangji called for him. He seemed disappointed that there was a guest and he was not allowed to meet them, but Lan Wangji insisted. There would be time later for A-Yuan to meet the man who would enter their family.
When a servant brought him inside the Jingshi, Nie Huaisang was very much as Lan Wangji remembered him. A small man with a face too delicate to be handsome, wearing clothes too ornate to be practical. Even if he had not met Wei Wuxian, Lan Wangji could never have pictured himself marrying such a frivolous person.
Still, he could make an effort to be polite. Leaving his bed for long periods of time was still impossible, but Lan Wangji at least sat up and nodded to the other man. Even that much movement pulled on his scabs unpleasantly.
“Hanguang-Jun, I am glad to find you are well,” Nie Huaisang greeted him with a short bow. “That is, you’re better than I expected, anyway. The thing people have been saying! But I’ll spare you the gossip, I know it’s forbidden here.”
Without waiting for an invitation, Nie Huaisang went to grab a cushion and sat near the bed. He pulled out a fan he used on himself with slow, lazy gestures, making himself quite at home. It would be his home soon, Lan Wangji realised. The thought was unpleasant. He did not want to share his mother’s house with someone who was nearly a stranger.
“I’ve been told that your brother is particularly in favour of the match,” Nie Huaisang said when Lan Wangji remained silent too long.
Lan Wangji nodded. Nie Huaisang’s fan stilled for a moment. He pinched his lips, took a shaky breath, and smiled again, his fan resuming its movement.
“Interesting, interesting. This marriage… I do not think it is all that great, politically speaking. Not with that brotherhood serment already there, but what do I know? If everyone says it’s good, then it must be.”
“You disagree.”
“For selfish reasons only,” Nie Huaisang chuckled awkwardly. “I don’t want to get married to someone who’ll never love me. Then again, my chances for a love match are low to begin with, and I’m not too interesting politically when people would rather marry my brother. Maybe this isn’t so bad. The Nie elders have suggested far worse candidates than you, and I’ve always liked Gusu. I always thought I’d like to live here, given the chance. Yes, I think I can have you as my husband, if I have to. What about you? Do you think I’ll do?”
Lan Wangji hesitated, searching for a way to explain he did not care who he married anymore, so long as he could keep Lan Yuan to his side. The only spouse he might have wanted was dead, not that Wei Wuxian had ever shown any interest in him to begin with. What was going on now was only politics and he didn’t care, as long as it remained politics.
“Separate beds,” he stated, which wasn’t nearly close to all he wanted to say.
Nie Huaisang hid behind his fan to laugh, so loud it had to be breaking rules.
“For sure! No offence Hanguang-Jun, but I’d never… You’re not far from my type, but not quite it either. And anyway, I know I’m not yours.”
Something constricted inside Lan Wangji’s chest. It was one thing for his brother and uncle to know. They had seen him in that cave. They knew him. He was not sure he liked the idea that anyone else might have realised.
His panic must have shown somehow, because Nie Huaisang stopped laughing and quickly closed his fan.
“Ah don’t worry, I haven’t told anyone!” he squeaked. “I know about… I wouldn’t tell anyone! But that’s why, right? For them to suddenly want to marry you off like this, even to me... and people say you helped him in Nightless City, and you’re bedridden from receiving lashes, and I… I remember how you’d look at him when we were young, and at banquets when he still attended those.”
The weight pressing down Lan Wangji’s lungs increased. He felt no shame over his love for Wei Wuxian, but he knew others would find something to say against it, would shift the blame on Wei Wuxian, would claim the Yiling Patriarch had seduced one of the Jade Brothers and turned him against his clan in Nightless City.
His own reputation did not matter, but Lan Wangji hated that Wei Wuxian’s might suffer again, and by his fault.
“You never spoke for him at those banquets,” Lan Wangji accused, desperate to change the subject.
Again Nie Huaisang laughed, an uncomfortable little chuckle, his eyes avoiding Lan Wangji’s.
“Who would listen to me if they didn’t listen to the mighty Hanguang-Jun? And anyway, I’m forbidden from talking at gatherings, because I only say nonsense and bother people. But… ah, it’s easy to say that now, right? So believe me or not, that’s your problem. But really, I wish I could have done something. Only, someone like me… what could I have done?”
Lan Wangji did not react outwardly.
In his heart, he calmly labelled Nie Huaisang a coward, and likely a pushover. Both things he had known already from the other man's time as a guest disciple. Now it was confirmed. He would not be able to count on his husband for anything of importance.
He had not expected to.
On the other hand, it did not seem like Nie Huaisang would be actively working against him either. That was a relief of sorts. It would make their match a less unpleasant one. With some luck, Lan Xichen might be convinced to let Nie Huaisang have his own house instead of living in the Jingshi. Since neither of them could bear a child, there was no need to keep up appearances.
With all this settled, Lan Wangji accepted his fate. He would marry Nie Huaisang.
Just as he was about to share that conclusion, he heard Nie Huaisang cry out.
“Oh, we have a spy!” Nie Huaisang exclaimed, sounding delighted as he pointed to a small head poking from behind a screen. “So you really have a son! I thought my brother had finally learned to joke.”
A-Yuan gasped at being discovered, and ran away to hide before Lan Wangji could remind him he had promised not to come into view. It must have been too much to ask of a child that young and that curious.
“Did I scare him?” Nie Huaisang asked with a pout. “Too bad. But they’re so shy at that age, aren’t they? How old is he? I’ll have to show him I’m nice. Hanguang-Jun, what does your son like? I’ll try to buy him things next time I visit. What's his name?"
"Lan Yuan," Lan Wangji said, picking one question to answer.
He steeled himself for an interrogation about his son, especially since Nie Huaisang knew about Wei Wuxian. None came.
"Lan Yuan," Nie Huaisang repeated. "A-Yuan. I really hope I didn't scare him too bad. Can I be introduced to him? Does he know about the wedding? You shouldn't wait too long to tell him. Children are sensitive to these things. I've heard Mingjue cried for a week when he learned his father would marry my mother. Ah! Wait, wait, pretend I didn't say that! I don't think I'm supposed to tell that story… hm, but you'll soon be family so it's fine, right?"
"Not today," Lan Wangji replied. "Lan Yuan. You're not meeting him today."
To his surprise, Nie Huaisang nodded.
"You're right, of course you're right. You need to explain to him first. And it must be tiring for you to be sitting this long, right? I'd better leave you alone for now. Still, do call for me if you decide your son is ready to meet me. The negotiation will take at least a week, maybe more. It's a big deal, there's a lot for them to argue about."
"Hm."
Nie Huaisang stared at him, and grimaced.
"You really aren't one for conversation, uh?" he sighed, some slight bitterness seeping through his cheerful facade. "Ah well. We'll make do. Even like this, you're still the least awful person they've wanted to marry me to, so I won't complain."
"Hm. You'll do as well."
Nie Huaisang really wasn't anything he wanted in a spouse, but it could have been worse.
Still, Lan Wangji was relieved when the other man finally took his leave and silence returned to the Jingshi. He only broke it to call for his son. A-Yuan came running and climbed into bed to curl up against him. The little boy looked worried, as if he thought he would be scolded for disobeying. Lan Wangji probably should have said something. He did not, and instead laid down, mindful of his wounds, and pulled his son close against his chest.
Later, he would try explaining to A-Yuan that his life was about to change again. Hopefully the little boy would not be too distressed by the news of a stranger barging into the peaceful haven they had created for themselves. After so much had already happened, it felt cruel to force A-Yuan to go through this as well.
But it was the price to pay for the two of them to be a family, and Lan Wangji knew his son was brave enough to handle it.

Sorting The Untamed characters
Tumblr media
In which I have a lot of feelings about sorting The Untamed characters into @sortinghatchats classifications because I’m a LOSER NERD WITH FEELINGS : D
Tumblr media
Wei Wu Xian - Gryffindor primary/Gryffindor secondary
WWX’s Gryff energy is like….what are you so LOUD for. There’s nothing he can do other than stick to his morals and principles and what his gut is telling him is the right thing to do, no matter the cost. Even if it makes him public enemy number one of the cultivation world, even if it exiles him from his family and clan, even if it goes against everything he was taught and involves helping and saving his worst enemies - see: Wen clan in Xuanwu cave, the cultivators in Burial Mound after losing their spiritual powers due to Su She. This is someone who adheres brightly and with his all to his principles simply because it is the RIGHT thing to do and he knows this with unshaken conviction and is steady once he discovers this, which has its own power.
Honestly I was actually initially thinking between Slytherin with Claw and Claw secondary because WWX has an improvisational streak to him, managing to thrive even when thrown into the worst of circumstances with a combination of his own prodigious skill and flexibility when it comes to drastically relearning the dark arts to compensate for a lack of golden core. But here’s the passage that convinced me otherwise: “it is a Gryffindor’s stark, direct honesty makes them them feel the most secure. Lies, or even misdirects, are slippery footing. For a Gryffindor Secondary, their blunt honesty is a facet of their personality and their morality—lying about who or why you are taints the victory. A Gryffindor Secondary can and will lie if the cause is important enough— but it will leave a bad taste in their mouth the same way trusting a stranger with their honesty might terrify a Slytherin Secondary.” The blunt honest is self-evident in…well, WWX’s entire existence lmao but even when young in the Gusu Lan sect. But what convinces me is after WWX gets Chenqing and the way the great lie about why he doesn’t use Suibian anymore is framed afterwards. It kills WWX to lie about all that he is, it’s presented as one of the fundamental tragedies of his story - the ultimate betrayal of himself that he makes for a greater purpose and in pursuit of his Gryff primary ideals. The fact it’s not treated lightly or as a tool to be used to achieve his goals is what makes him a Gryff secondary.
He models a Claw’s curiosity and intellectual fascination with questioning the world order and a Slytherin’s keen eye for motivations and people, but ultimately it comes down to that red thread of charging when backed into a corner - quite literally, he charges towards the Xuanwu, out of Chiongqi Road with the Wen prisoners, into the plaza of cultivators calling for his ashes, directly into Guanyin temple where Jingyi is in danger; he puts himself in harm’s way without a second thought when his gut is telling him he’s right to do so. He also has the classic Gryff secondary trait of amassing an accidental army in his wake of the most unlikely people, all transformed by his draw and that irresistible quality of truth to him.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Lan Wang Ji - Gryffindor primary/Ravenclaw secondary
LWJ is a quiet version of the Gryffindor primary, raised in a culture that forces him into like…the strongest of all Ravenclaw models. He adheres strictly and obediently to the Lan clan’s system of the world because in his mind, it was the right thing to do… until WWX forces him to re-examine his morality, about what he was taught and everything he believed was right. And when his model of the world is challenged, what he ultimately goes with is…his heart. Not necessarily because his morality is guided by how WWX is his in the same way of Slytherin/Hufflepuff’s personal morality, but because WWX embodies the new insight that nothing is truly black or white in the way his clan’s system has taught; because LWJ feels that WWX is good, even when every other rule he’s been taught is saying otherwise and, little by little, he rebels quietly by dismantling those systems that once shaped his worldview.
LWJ wrestles visibly with this the entire flashback arc of the drama, unable to bring himself to denounce WWX despite all the ‘bad’ he had done all the way until the Nightless City battle and when push came to shove, at the very end, he still chose to clutch onto WWX’s hand until WWX made the choice for him to let go. I do think he was ‘stripped’ by the experience - his internal compass, sense of purpose, and even sense of worth broken by the loss of WWX and that’s what he spends 16yrs atoning and suffering for. After WWX’s revival, he accordingly sets himself up against the cultivation world with no hesitation because he’s had 16yrs to regret not following his Gryff primary heart that said WWX’s way of seeing the world is right and he’s not going to falter again.
Ravenclaw secondary bc……his first instinct when his boyfriend was changed by demonic cultivation was to flip the library upside down trying to find a cure and try to invent a whole ass song to cure him nghghghshf. But yes, he’ll fall back on systems, skills and knowledge he’s carefully built from the ground up when backed in a corner, drawing on what he’s known and carefully cultivated, looking through resources to try and gain more knowledge.
Tumblr media
Wen Qing - Slytherin primary/Slytherin secondary
Wen Qing’s morality and driver is very simple. It’s her brother at the start, her family, and gradually expands as people help him and - by extension - her: WWX, LWJ, Jiang Cheng. For them, she’ll betray the wider clan with very few qualms because they’re not her people and those who are hers come first. She connects with Jiang Cheng on the basis of both their Slytherin primaries, but understands immediately that he would never have gone with her to rescue Wen Ning because while she may tentatively be one of ‘his’ people in his mind, Wen Ning isn’t, and so any future with him is tragically unaccepted. When it comes down to sacrificing even the brother she holds so dear, she does it in the hope that her people - WWX and her wider family by proxy - may be saved from the cultivation world’s wrath. She’s a Slytherin secondary because she’s adaptable and able to draw on whatever skills she needs and be who she needs to be to achieve her goals, with a knack for zeroing in precisely on people’s true motivations and what will and won’t work with a cultivation society looking to find a bad guy. You can bet she’s the one who figured out how to trick Jiang Cheng into believing he could get his golden core back. It’s telling that her most emotional moments are when she lays down all her defences and sincerely speaks from the heart - whether it’s crying over Wen Ning’s body or thanking Wei Wu Xian and apologising. ; _ ; Wen Qing is a good egg.
Tumblr media
Jiang Cheng - Slytherin primary/Gryff secondary
It’s clear from the start that Jiang Cheng’s morality revolves around his family who are his and come above everyone else, along with his pride (but we’re not gonna talk about thatttt...). His impassioned plea of ‘it was enough to just save ourselves, why did you have to save them’ re: bringing the Wen clan wrath upon the Jiang clan proves he could never see eye to eye with WWX’s Gryffindor primary that demands what is right be applied to all, and therein lies the source of their feud, when we get to the pointy end and doing what’s right involves a lot more sacrifice and hardship. Jiang Cheng’s very specialised loyalty is tested over and over throughout the beginning of the series by outsiders casting suspicion on WWX’s motivations, pricking at his pride and his deep set insecurities about his own position and whether he’s actually loved by the people he’s claimed as his own and also on their priority list (see: his father, WWX).
What truly makes him give up and cut WWX out of his circle is when WWX himself says ‘I exile myself from the tribe’. In Jiang Cheng’s eyes, to betray the people who are yours is what is unforgivable and impossible to understand, and that’s what comes out as the most deeply buried point of pain in Guanyin temple and what’s driven JC’s anger the last sixteen years. That doesn’t make him any less of an extreme Gryff secondary than WWX, whether it’s charging straight into the feared Burial Mound where no one’s ever come out alive just to drag his brother out and confront him about all the problems directly, to confronting WWX directly in Lotus Cove, to marching into Guanyin temple’s front door. Which is probably why they fight. We also find out in the end that Jiang Cheng is fully capable of the same dumb self sacrifice that WWX made for him. Ironically, both of their actions boil down to ‘I must protect my brother’, except where WWX does it because it’s right, Jiang Cheng does it because that’s his brother.
Tumblr media
Jin Guangyao - Slytherin primary/Slytherin secondary
WWX’s diametric opposite. I do think he seems like a petrified Slytherin - Guanyin temple arc reveals that his world once comprised at least of himself and his mother, and perhaps the idealised image of who his father would be, and he strove and strove until his father shattered all his dreams, until his world narrows until it’s ultimately and dangerously comprised of just himself. I do think Nie Mingjue, Su She, Qin Su and Lan Xichen came the closest to who he would consider ‘his’ people, but even that falls away as they ‘betray’ him and because his actions are ultimately guided by his loyalty only to himself, and warps exactly what he interprets as ‘betrayal’. This is what allows him to betray them when they ultimately fall out of line with JGY’s priorities and give them such cruel endings despite how much he professes to treasure them. It’s what creates his resentment against NMJ that festers until it leads to NMJ’s demise - in JGY’s eyes, to throw aside everything in their relationship for the sake of some lowly, subhuman captain who’s always treated JGY with contempt and to keep holding it against him is incomprehensible, unforgivable. It’s also why LXC stabbing him is met with such choking disbelief and anger - because JGY, true to his word, would have never entertained the concept of betraying a person who was proving to be his and LXC was his last hope. His secondary Slytherin allows him to transform and shift with the wind, shedding personas and layers as easily as water, the same way it pains WWX to do the same.
Tumblr media
Nie Huaisang - Slytherin primary/Slytherin secondary
Jin Guangyao’s equal and foil, ironically also putting up a very self-entered front in the world where it seems like he only cares about his own self interests but quietly loyal to a select number of people who are his - WWX, his elder brother - and will quietly work in the shadows playing the long con to systematically dismantle everything about the person he despises. Slytherin secondary allows him to make himself a fool without any qualms about it not being a reflection of his true face or authentic self, and pull the puppet strings on even those he cares about until he gets to where he wants to be.
Tumblr media
Lan XiChen - Ravenclaw primary/Ravenclaw secondary
Xichen sticks much more closely to what his clan’s systems are and his carefully constructed understanding of the world and that’s what both blinds him to JGY and shakes his worldview so heavily when JGY reveals himself to be a villain. But his felt morality, guided by the system of being just and fair is also what allows him to reject JGY and entertain the possibility of his betrayal. A Slytherin primary may stubbornly cling to faith in a person that he sees as ‘his’ person, but a Ravenclaw primary will feel guilty and immoral to be sticking with them despite knowing they’re betraying the system of justice that he prides above all. It’s what allows him to be an ally to both WWX/LWJ and JGY for the latter half of the series, trying to understand and question the logical holes in WWX and LWJ’s arguments. Where WWX and LWJ don’t have evidence for JGY being evil, they can feel it in their guts and they charge towards getting that evidence based on those convictions. LXC on the other hand may sense something in his gut but he will not act against JGY without being convinced of said evidence, until he is certain of what the real truth is and will methodically keep digging and questioning the evidence being presented to him until it becomes undeniable. It’s also telling that his anger when Huaisang manipulates him into stabbing JGY is not so much about the fact he betrayed his friend (which is the key pain point that JGY angrily latches onto) but that Huaisang may have been lying, that LXC may have acted on something that was not true and he had been unable to see through that. It’s a subtle difference I think, but what separates his primary. I think his Ravenclaw secondary is pretty obvious in the thoroughness of his methods and the ways we’ve seen him dodge the Wen clan, to be willing to work with JGY during the Sunshot Campaign. It requires flexibility of thinking and drawing on a range of resources and that’s what LXC quietly excels at.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Jiang Yanli & Wen Ning - Hufflepuff primary/Hufflepuff secondary
Both are honestly quite similar — they’ll hold onto their belief in the basic goodness of all people, regardless of allegiance and regardless of their past history and that’s the source of what endears them to people and why they manage to build an army of people who would die and care for them when push comes to shove.
The little we see of both Yanli and Wen Ning’s way of operating from a secondary perspective revolves around being of service to others, being a source of reliability, support and consistency, quietly building, strengthening and contributing to their little community. Wen Ning quietly and diligently attends to WWX’s protection at all times, reliably taking on the roles allocated to him with a genuine commitment to performing them to his best ability.
When they ‘fight’, they fight by drawing on their resources, through a thorough, systematic and relentless persistance. A Li’s approach to the battle of words on Phoenix Mountain is an example of this - she draws upon her position, her knowledge of what is ‘proper’ to do within the community and the goodwill she’s built with Madame Jin to subtly dismantle Jin Zixun’s arguments while still pleasantly entrapping him in the niceties of the community she’s a part of without alienating herself the same way WWX can’t help but do with his bluntness. When JC threatens to push WWX to the limits of his endurance, Wen Ning defends WWX through words, standing up again and again despite being violently thrown back and systematically dismantling all of JC’s defence mechanisms by thoroughly and sincerely pushing back on every false claim and even urging JC to call on the community to verify the truth of his words. They’re indomitable, stubborn and effective and that’s Puff/Puff energy right there.
Tumblr media
Jin Ling - Gryff primary/Gryff secondary
Gryff primary…why are you so LOUD for Pt 2. Poor Jingyi, two Gryff secondary uncles and father…he had no chance lmaaaao. Impulsive, reckless, absolutely a ‘charge first and ask questions later’ kid and screaming Gryff secondary. Will bash a hole in a wall when he’s denied entry and get caught by the skeleton demons than like…find another way around, you know? Or charge into Guanyin temple without much second thought. His Gryff primary and his gut morality of what is right - aka. trusting WWX and treating him with fairness - ultimately wins against him being pushed hard into the whole ‘pride in your clan only’ angle by his Slytherin primary uncle, and that’s what allows him to become a WWX duckling (begrudgingly) despite all his puffery and objections. It’s also what lets him survive and accept the betrayal of seeing his other uncle revealed as a villain and how he’s able to reject JGY when his misdeeds become undeniable. I also think it’s super cute he’s the same type as WWX, honestly...it’s why I love their dynamic. He’s the young, unjaded version of his uncle.
Tumblr media
Lan Sizhui - Puff primary/Gryff secondary with a Claw model?
There’s a kindness to Shizui that he extends to Mo Xuanyu, Jin Ling and Wen Ning against convention and despite - in Jin Ling’s case - how hard he tries to create distance in that relationship that makes me think Puff primary and his determination to see everyone as people to be respected. I feel like we don’t see enough of Sizhui in action to really be able to determine his secondary - he has something of secondary Puff/Claw vibes in the way he comes across as quietly diligent, reliable and insightful, but he’s also got a certain amount of fire when he needs to - grabbing people’s legs as a kid, making a move towards possessed Song Lan in Yi City despite WWX telling them all to get out, brawling with the other ducklings when tied up, rushing recklessly back up the Burial Mound path to find WWX and LWJ who were holding back the ghouls etc. Maybe a secret Gryff secondary that’s normally held in place by a Claw or Puff model.
