a/n: i absolutely love iwa but i decided to give him an irrational fear for this fic. hopefully it's not too ooc but i tried. enjoy!

"Wake Up!" Iwaizumi whispered loudly. You groaned as you slowly awoke. "What is it Hajime?" He sat bolt upright, eyes fixed on your bedroom window. "I heard a noise." Now you sat up stiffly, what noise could have him so concerned? "W-what kind of noise." You squeaked out. He looked at you wide-eyed. "A rustling."

"A rustling?"

He frantically nodded. "Hajime Iwaizumi, you woke me up because you heard rustling outside the window." You asked incredulously. He didn't respond. Sighing, you got out of bed and turned on the light. There were bushes outside the window, so it's likely some small animal ended up in them if anything. "What are you doing?" Hajime asked fearfully. "Going to check it out, duh." You put on a t-shirt and grabbed your sneakers. He latched onto your arm. "Angel what if it's dangerous?" You peered down at him. "You didn't wake me up just so I could be scared with you, did you?" He looked away. "N-no."

You opened the front door with your flashlight in hand, quietly creeping towards the bush. Hajime had decided to peer carefully from the doorway, frying pan in hand. You heard the rustling again (as well as Iwa's whimpers) as you got closer. Shining the light in, you saw two little eyes peering back at you. "Haijme, could you bring one of the old towels from the linen closet." You looked back just in time to see the color drain from his face. "Is it a bloody body???"

"Why would there be a bloody body in our bush and why would I try to handle it?" You whisper yelled. He quickly returned with an old towel as you carefully reached into the bush. The creature inside it let out a small meow as you safely wrapped it in the fuzzy cloth. "Did it get you??" He shrieked. You gingerly brought the small bundle over to him. "If you mean my heart, then absolutely." You pulled back a few of the flaps to reveal a very scared, black kitten. It couldn't have been more than a few months old and it was cold and shaking. "Isn't it cute?" You asked, offering the bundle for him to hold. Holding it ever so softly, he calmed down. "It is cute, guess you got all worried for nothing." He noticed your glare. "I'll never wake you up for something like this again!" You sighed. "I'll forgive you but only because the kitten is so cute."

The two of you set up a box with some old blankets and offered it some canned tuna you found in the pantry. "Since you woke me up, you can keep an eye on it until morning. Then we can get it checked out tomorrow." He begrudgingly moved a blanket to the living room couch as you began to get ready for bed again. As you were changing, you heard him talking to the cat. "I hope you don't mind me watching volleyball. It's gonna help me stay awake so I can make sure you sleep well." He continued talking about positions, how scoring is kept, as well as different rules in the game. The kitten meowed occasionally in response. Cuties, both of them. You thought as you drifted off to sleep.

USHIJIMA LOVES HOLDING HANDS

I've seen many headcanons that Ushijima is touch starved and honestly same. So he's probably not going to be all over you when you first get together. He strikes me as the type to take you out somewhere and maybe get you gifts but touch just isn't on his radar. So naturally as your relationship progresses, you want to do a little more, the first step being holding hands. This happens one day as the two of you are out on a date. It's at the mall and it gets really crowded so you reach out and take his hand so the two of you don't get separated. This surprises him but he doesn't say anything. However, when it's less crowded, he doesn't let go of your hand. Now he's always holding your hand. Movies, chilling at home, on a walk, it does not matter.

He also likes how small your hand feels in his. He also does the thumb thing if he's kinda nervous but he doesn't realize he's doing it. Like if he's waiting to see his results on a test, he'll hold your hand and start rubbing the back of it with his thumb. Then you get to squeeze it and reassure him which he absolutely loves.

USHIJIMA LOVES WHEN YOU HUG HIM REALLY TIGHT

Ushijima is a big guy. I mean at 6ft 2 in Japan of all places, there aren't a lot of people his size, which is why he absolutely loves it when you give him hugs. People are usually intimidated by him so when you run up to him and just hug his torso koala style, he gets all soft. Doing something in the kitchen and you sneak up behind him and give him a hug? Spectacular. Lying down in bed and you squish him on top? Amazing. Just constant hugs. You'd have to repeat this for a bit though before he starts hugging you first. He'd also be really gentle hugging you because of his size and muscles so it'd be really light. Except when he gets excited. He wins a game that was really difficult? Squishing the life out of you. It's amazing really.

USHIJIMA LOVES PLANTS

I actually love plants and botanical gardens but I suck at keeping them alive. I literally have a succulent named Lewis dying on my windowsill right now

So Ushijima loves plants. Growing up in Miyagi, he's used to seeing tons of nature and agriculture since that's what the prefecture is known for, however, that's not necessarily why he likes it. Now his parents got divorced, but before then, he distinctly remembers a family trip to a botanical garden. His parents pointed out all the flowers to him and their scientific names. They even bought him a starter orchid kit from the gift shop. So naturally, he took care of it and it became a beautiful shade of purple. He's also an only child so it was probably nice for him to have something to keep busy with. But today, he finds taking care of plants really comforting and would definitely buy you flowers for special occasions and just because. Sometimes you'll come home and find a rose on your side of the bed. Or maybe he'll bring back a few wildflowers from you if he sees them at the end of his jog.

USHIJIMA LOVES SINGING YOU TO SLEEP

Alright so we all know Ushijima has this great baritone. And the money I would pay to have this man sing to me. But back to the topic. I feel like while he's not self-conscious of his singing, he's not exactly trying to display it for everyone. But sometimes, if you can't sleep and he'll notice you there all tangled up in the blanket, trying to relax, he'll just start humming a little something. And naturally, you'll start to relax who wouldn't and get sleepy. Then he'll pull you closer into his chest and start singing a little something. You can hear and feel the reverberations as well as his heartbeat which makes you very very sleepy. He'll probably keep humming even after you fall asleep just to make sure you have good dreams <3
