I'm not caught up on Shiklah, how exactly did she and Wade meet? How did they fall in love? Why did she cheat? Ever since we saw that panel about Wade being overflowing I've always thought about the fact that she probably didn't cheat because she was a succubus right? Because if Wade was overflowing Shiklah wouldn't have needed to chest and find some other source of (nourishment?). So did she just did it because she didn't love him? Well it seems like she did because of those honeymoon photos. Why Shiklah why?! Explain yourself you cruel succubus!?!

in the comics it's a marriage of convenience - but they also liked each other a lot. they married to thwart dracula, sure, but they did also have the hots for each other. in 9319 i imagine it happens in a largely similar way - though, it doesn't really matter - heck, they could've met on tinder. that would be hilarious. after carm, wade's super lonely. he's on a dating app. finds a succubus looking for a feast. slides into her DMs, "i'm an all-you-can-eat-buffet, babey...." they meet. he thought she was just a weird cosplayer with like, a VERY elaborate scaly suit. turns out it's she's a real actual succubus.

score, wade says, pumping his fist.

they go on a lot of dates. like a lot. it's really cute. they don't have sex. wade insists on all the romantic tropey dates. ice skating. the opera. they cause disaster everywhere they go, but they don't care.

wade insists on saving himself until marriage. (he doesn't want another relationship where he feels like a slab of meat, and he's a little scared of that kind of vulnerability after nate and carm)

shiklah's not a patient woman. she's done playing with her food. she proposes. wade is giddy.

i think shiklah genuinely loved wade, but i mean, in her nature, wade is prey. i think she genuinely loves everyone she feasts on. but wade - wade was exceptionally ripe. wade's like the juiciest feast ever, but he's hard work. he's not easy. shiklah can have so many easier meals. but wade is demanding, and has so many conditions, and not only that, but he suppresses so much.

wade's still in love with nate, and vanessa, and shiklah can feast on that love (she's not picky - in fact, that's the juicy stuff that she's after) - but wade leaps through hoops to deny it and suppress it.

i think at some point it gets frustrating for shiklah. her trying to tap into wade's untapped reservoir of love and wade constantly trying to keep a lid on it. like, she's trying to break his dam and wade is constantly trying to build it back up again because he has a preconceived notion of what love should look like and NO. he's monogamous. he can only love one person. this is what the fairytale looks like and i am NOT going to fuck this up. play by the rules.

wade doesn't take his mask off with shiklah. he's so committed to putting on the show. and eventually, i guess, shiklah becomes exhausted enough of it to seek out an easier meal.

i think she wishes she could've held onto wade. he was such a good feast.

of course, there's someone else who's just as ripe.

October 25th - Blade the Vampire Hunter

Eric Brooks was born in London in the late 1920’s.  His father, Lucas Cross, was a member of a secret mystical society known as the Order of Tyrana.  Sought out by the Latvian authorities, Cross sent his pregnant wife Tara to England.  There she took the name ‘Vanessa Brooks’ and found shelter with another member of the Order of Tyrana. Tara experienced labor complications and sought out a doctor’s aide.  Unfortunately, this doctor was actually the vampire known as Deacon Frost.  Frost feed on Tara as she gave birth to her son.  The process caused the newborn to become a human/vampire hybrid, also known as a ‘Dhampir.’ Frost was driven away before he could slay the child, but Tara perished, leaving the orphaned Eric Brooks to be raised by members of the Order of Tyrana who kept him safe in a Soho brothel.    

In his youth, Eric encountered the American vampire hunter, Jamal Afari, who saved him from a vampire attack.  Atari would go on to become a mentor and father figure to Eric, training him in the ways of hunting vampires.  As a Dhampir, Eric possessed many of the strengths and abilities of a vampire without their weaknesses nor need to feed on human blood.  Along with a greatly elongated lifespan, Eric possesses enhanced physical attributes, speed, strength and durability, as well as any ability to heal rapidly from injury or sickness.  These powers made Eric a truly formidable vampire hunter.  He took on the name ‘Blade’ and quickly became a renowned and feared hunter of the undead.  

Blade fought alongside the Allied Forces covert team, The Secret Invaders, during the Second World War.   Thereafter he relocated to the United States and joined up with a team of fellow hunters tracking Count Dracula.  In the 1970’s, Blade traveled to New York and became a member of a team of heroes retroactively known as the Mighty Avengers.   The team disbanded after they succeeded in bringing down the evil cabal called The Deathwalkers.  

Blade continued his pursuit of Dracula, spending the next few decades chasing the vampire lord whilst also taking down numerous vampire threats all over the world.  This included numerous battles with the proto-vampire, Morbius.  Blade later teamed up with Hannibal King, a vampire who refused to feed on humans.  Blade and King joined forces to hunt down Deacon Frost, the vampire who killed Blade’s mother.   After finally killing Frost, Blade and King sought out the Darkhold, a magical tome that contained an incantation that could destroy all vampires.  They succeeded in their mission and Dr. Strange cast a spell that seemingly killed Dracula and all over vampires on earth.   Blade would go on to act as a member of the Midnight Sons, seeking out new mystical menaces threatening mankind.  

The ‘Montesi Formula,’ the conjuration that had destroyed all vampires, weakened and ultimately dissipated completely, leading to the return of vampires and Count Dracula.   As such, Blade resumed his vampire hunting and ended up having to face his father, Lucas Cross, who had himself been transformed into a vampire.  

Blade would go on to serve in the British governmental superhero team, MI-13 and later aided the X-Men in their battle against the forces of Dracula.  Blade has additionally served as a member of both the newer iteration of The Mighty Avengers as well as the main Avengers squad.  

Actor Wesley Snipes portrayed Blade in three films from New Line Cinema and actor Sticky Fingaz portrayed the hero in the Blade television series; whereas actor Mahershala Ali is set to play the role of Blade in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.  The hero first appeared in the pages of Tomb of Dracula #10 (1973).

I’m Already Gone- Vanessa Ives

Spoilers ahead

Context: I’m not going to give to much of an explanation just incase some people aren’t listening to the spoiler sign above.

A/n: All I’m going to say is that I cried whilst making this, so just a bit of pre-warning I think it’s quite sad, of course it’s Vanessa Ives x Fem Reader.

Warning(s): Major character death

I'd gone with them to save her, actually I'd been the first out of the door. Blind sighted and plan less but I had to save her, I had to save Vanessa, I loved her.

She thought I was dead, for an entire month she'd thought I was dead. For a while I thought I was to, after the events at the Nightwalker's home I'd appeared dead apparently according to Ethan and Sir Malcolm I'd been tortured to death.

Vanessa thought this too, that's why she'd fallen into the arms of another. Yet I hadn't been dead just in a constant state of sleep like death.

That's how my body had healed itself, by shutting down completely and restarting, something I hadn't known a witch could do but I was grateful for it.

I'd only woken up hours ago and very quickly, in a state of shock, Ethan had explained everything that had happened and what was currently happening.

He'd succeeded, Dracula, he'd made Vanessa the Mother of Evil and now the world was at the brink of the apocalypse and humanity was all but doomed. That's when it was my turn to be shocked and quite frankly frightened.

We'd dealt with vampires and Nightwalkers before but the apocalypse was something beyond our experience and quite frankly our comprehension.

But I didn't care about the end of the world or that humanity may be experiencing its final days. All I cared about was saving Vanessa from the teeth of Dracula, I couldn't let him take her from me, I wouldn't allow it.

I only needed to hear the words of where we'd find him from Kat and I was sprinting out of the manor and into the pestilence infected air of London.

The air didn't affect me thankfully, due to my biological differences as a strand of witch, I was protected from the sickness and so I walked through, almost running. The only thought in my head was Vanessa, my Vanessa.

I'd made it to the place Kat had described as Dracula's lair and I knew the others weren't far behind, if I focussed my hearing enough I could hear the distant sound of their feet meeting the cobblestones.

The place was dark and filthy and the stench was horrid and I wondered what barbarians I would encounter here.

Eventually everyone else had caught up and were now here and quickly we were being attacked by the night creatures.

I wanted to get away, to run down the corridor I could sense Van was down but I was being assaulted left and right by these creatures of the night and even as I tried with all my energy and abilities to clear a path through, I couldn't.

The fighting continued and I tried as best as I could to keep myself and my friends safe but I barely had enough magic to serve myself after waking up, let alone so many other people.

Somehow, in a way I wasn't certain what had happened, the fighting stopped and we were surrounded by the dead bodies of Dracula's creatures but when I looked around to check that we were all still alive, Ethan wasn't there.

Then I began to panic, had they killed him? Was he still alive? but then my questions were silenced when I saw him walking out from the shadows.

I knew something was wrong immediately, I saw how his shoulders were slumped and how his face was utterly tear stained and face vacant.

A fear I'd never experienced before began to consume me as I asked, "Ethan, what happened?" And now I knew I didn't want to know the answer.

He didn't answer, "Ethan what happened!?" I shouted at him and then his eyes met mine and I knew what had happened.

"Y/n," he began to say, voice weak but I didn't need him to finish, I didn't want him to finish that sentence.

"No," my voice was no louder than a whisper as I stood there. "No, No, No," each time my voice got louder and I looked around in a frantic panic.

"NO!" I screamed running at Ethan before being stopped and grabbed at the shoulders by Kat but it wasn't him I was after.

I ripped Kat's grip from my shoulders, my shouts turning into screams and tears tracking down my face faster than a waterfall.

Once I'd gotten free of her grip I broke out into a run and sprinted down the corridor Ethan had emerged from.

I heard them shouting after me and their shouts for me to stop but I couldn't, I was frightened, frightened that what I saw in Ethan's eyes were true.

I made it to the end of the corridor, a door now facing me and my vision was blurred by the tears that hadn't fallen.

I stopped and hesitated my hand shaking as I went to open the door further to enter, paralysed by the fear of what I might see.

But then I opened it and that's when my entire world came crashing around me like shattered glass.

There she was, the woman I loved, the woman I had been through Hell and back to fight for, laying on the floor dead.

That's when I lost control of my body and an ear piercing, soul shattering scream ripped from lungs and out into the world.

I fell to my knees by her body, shaking violently as I scooped her head and chest into my lap. Her skin was so cold and pale and her heartbeat was almost none existent.

"Van," I whispered, my voice uneven from the tears "Van I'm here, I'm here please don't go," I cried to her praying she would hear me.

"Y/n she's gone," it was Ethan's voice I heard behind me but I couldn't accept it, I refused to accept it. Even if I had to fight the Devil myself I would bring her back.

"She's not," I spat at him not allowing myself to take my eyes off Vanessa for even a moment. It was his fault she was like this, she was completely alive before he'd seen her, I knew that, I could feel it.

But even now, I knew there was a little bit of life force left in her, the connection we shared told me so and the slow and radically uneven beats of her heart reminded me.

"Vanessa come back to me," I spoke "I know your still there." There was no response, no flutter of her eyelids and I feared that she was actually gone.

"I love you," I whispered as I kissed the top of her head, not wanting to say goodbye and a single tear slipped down from my cheek and fell onto her own. I didn't want to accept that she was gone.

Now I held her body closer. I'd failed to protect her, this was all my fault, I'd let her die. I wasn't here and so I'd tortured her into accepting this fate. I was the one who deserved to die not her but I didn't think the world would accept the trade no matter how many times I offered it.

"Y/n," it was the faintest of sounds but even then I'd know that voice anywhere, how it had made me laugh and how it had made me smile.

"Van," I whispered back looking down at her and then I saw her, her eyes had fluttered open, she was still deathly pale and her eyes were sorrowful but she was alive.

"You're alive," she whispered her voice cracking as she tried to lift a hand to stroke my cheek. When her hand met my cheek, I held it there with my own, crying anew and smiling.

"Yes, yes I am Van, I'm here, please stay with me," I told her hurriedly gripping onto her like a lifeline, I couldn't let her go a second time.

She looked at me with her beautiful eyes that were still a pretty blue. She looked at me and smiled, a sorrowed smile, something mixed with a strange and twisted happiness but a strong sadness.

"I can't," she whispered to me, her thumb stroking me on the cheek as I continued to hold her close.

"I have to go Y/n," her voice was so weak and tired, "I can't live anymore, I don't deserve to, I've caused so much pain and I can't keep hurting you or anyone else. It doesn't matter where we take this road, someone has to go."

"No Van, no don't say things like that, you've never hurt me, you've only ever loved me, if one of us needs to go, please let that be me."

"And you were mine," I whispered into her ear and then my entire world was consumed by grief, guilt and sadness and all I did was cry. I cried with the love of my life still in my arms and now I'd never felt more alone.

32: your favorite nonfiction novel

i don’t read much nonfiction, but of what i’ve read, Know My Name by Chanel Miller stands out from the rest. not only was it really emotionally impactful, but also really informative about the criminal justice system (and its many failures to protect victims of sa). very very heavy though, and look into trigger warnings going into it!

38: your favorite series

this is a very hard question. i can’t… i can’t narrow it down. i’ll share a few.

Inkheart: a childhood favorite that i still revisit often. characters come out of books. it’s magical :)

Six of Crows: this duology is so popular for a reason. they’re just amazing. amazing plot, characters that will stick with you forever, and every romance is perfect (there is a queer relationship in here!). there is scheming, heists, magic, found family, revenge.

In the Woods (Dublin Murder Squad): i’ve only read two of these so far, but they’re detective books! they really pull you in and make you feel disoriented in the best way. they just totally transport you somewhere else.

The Foxhole Court (All for the Game): it feels insane and ridiculous to include this book on this list, but this book series was all i thought about for a week as i read them, and i still think about them all the time, three years later??? they’re ridiculous, it’s about a made up sport and the mafia, it’s so outside of what i usually read, and yet i was captivated. and i’m not alone, there’s like a very small dedicated following to the series, it’s like a little cult classic. it’s self-published so they’re not extremely polished, but it’s not too bad at all. i got them all as ebooks for like $5, but i loved them so much, i bought them all in print too. a bunch of crazy stuff happens, definitely check tw if needed! there’s also an extreeeeeemely slow burn queer romance in here, but like, it’s slooow.

103: a book that deals with heavy topics

Neverworld Wake is one of my favorites. it’s kind of like dealing with grief in a limbo time loop.

Sadie was a devastating book, about big sister’s love for her little sister, and made me sob. check out trigger warnings as needed!

also, i don’t own this one, but My Dark Vanessa by Kate Elizabeth Russell. this book isn’t for everyone, but it’s an exploration of csa and grooming from a teacher, with flashes forward to the narrator’s experience confronting what she thought to know to be true about that relationship within a 2017 context when that teacher has been accused of abuse. check out trigger warnings as needed.

129: a book with beautiful prose

i’m going to give you lots of recs bc it seems like you want a lot, and i have read a lot :)

In Other Lands: one of my favorite books of all time. silly YA fantasy, bi mc, amazing characters that stick with you.

Red, White & Royal Blue: goofy little son of the president x prince of england romance

Autoboyography: kinda insta-lovey, but explores a lot of IH and religious homophobia (love interest is mormon)

Charm Offensive: it’s like the BACHELOR, but he’s ANXIOUS, and he doesn’t fall for any of the CONTESTANTS, but rather a GUY CREW MEMBER with DEPRESSION. 5/5, amazing.

Aristotle and Dante Discover the Secrets of the Universe: a classic!!! a couple teens figuring things out.

A Dowry of Blood: not my favorite, but it’s Dracula and his brides, it’s queer and poly.

Song of Achilles: a classic!!!! the fall of troy and everything that came before that.

Wolfsong: it’s a whole series about gay werewolves. what more can you ask for??

The Gentleman’s Guide to Vice and Virtue: not my favorite, but fun. an adventure!!!

Every Heart a Doorway: first in a series of novellas, so much great rep. people find doors to other worlds that they slip into, but the story picks up once they’re back and homesick.

I’ll Give You the Sun: one of those like… early queer books that i read before i knew i was queer, but it made me feel so much at the time. permanently imprinted in my brain.

Fence: there are graphic novels, and then a couple novels. it’s fencing at a boarding school, and everyone is so so so gay. the novels are hilarious too, written by the same author as In Other Lands.

some books that i don’t own and didn’t love, but were pretty good: The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo by Taylor Jenkins Reid, Only Mostly Devastated by Sophie Gonzales, Perfect on Paper by Sophie Gonzales (explores biphobia and attachment styles, which was really interesting!), History Is All You Left Me by Adam Silvera (oh my GOD this book made me sob, it’s so much heavy grief), She Drives Me Crazy by Kelly Quindlen (fake dating), Her Name in the Sky by Kelly Quindlen (wlw but a lot of IH and religious homophobia)

i’ve read more that were just so-so, and have a ton of unread queer books, so if you want more ideas, let me know! i have a lot more i can give you, just without my personal stamp of approval :)

Things I’d change about Penny Dreadful

Season 4

After her lover and family’s presence help Vanessa to find her value again and the strength to fight Dracula, the path travels to Egypt to uncover Vanessa’s godly origin and fight the forces of darkness in a final battle that will decide the fate of humanity and monsters alike.

Season 2

Dorian doesn’t date Angelique nor Brona. Instead, he becomes obsessed with Vanessa and her rejection. In pursuing her, he approaches the closed circle of her household and unfolds the mystery surrounding her. Being hedonist and indifferent to the world’s fate, he might only start to help her for futile reasons. So it is, Dorian has studied many subjects out of boredom through his immortal life. He may know more than we think.

The ugliness the Creature has outside, Brona has on the inside. She was brought back from death in perfect body conditions, but mentally disturbed. The worst side of her in life, the one who has been feed with hatred by abusive men, took completely over and she sees her other Brona as weak. She has no care for mankind and joins the rising forces of darkness, maybe with the promise that she will rule over men and have her own army of immortal women.

She convinces the Creature to follow her. He has been disappointed by humanity three times already: by his creator, by the theater people and by the Putney Family. He had resource to the bride Victor was preparing for him as his last hope of company, so he joins the ugly and unloved creatures of night, finally accepting this is where he belongs. However, there is one among the people he met who was kind to the bitter end: Vanessa Ives. When he learns she is the final goal of the dark forces, will he be compliant?

And will Brona once she finds out the only man who was ever decent to her is on the other side of the battlefield? What will Ethan do once he sees what his “brother” has done to the woman he once loved?

Season 3

After his disappointment with Brona, Victor relies on Vanessa, who has been both a mother and elder sister to him, and seeks to destroy his creations before they can cause anymore damage. Unlike Lily, Vanessa is a real woman. She is not a romantic ideal he made up as a boy, but she is strong, supportive, and she suppresses his maternal need - friendly reminder that Victor’s most traumatic events from childhood is the lost of his mother. However, Vanessa sees him as a little brother, and Ethan has stole her attention as he does with everyone with his rude appearance and quick trigger, something school boy Victor never had. This adds even more tension between the fake brothers.
