One understated worldbuilding detail I like is the very conscious decision not to give Boone or Cass middle names. The NCR just doesn’t have them!

Pre-war Mexico, the Brotherhood, the Enclave, and the vaults all do. Fun detail, not that consequential.

when i have time i wanna make a. fallout new vegas post-canon Thing regarding the companions. idk a little design sheet? short illustrated fic? for my idea of an independent ending (so, no gods no masters but with more of a followers of the apocalypse involvement/presence, which afaik was part of the original vision for fnv and was one of the many things that were cut due to time constraints). and some like, headcanons of how things turn out for them. test descriptions for the four human companions below the cut, i need to think about raul and lily some more. and i wanna give them all some Epilogue Designs. They Change. the journey changes them within and without.

Arcade Israel Gannon ended up staying in the Old Mormon Fort during the Second Battle of Hoover Dam and the unrest that followed the NCR's retreat. He made full use of his medical expertise where he knew it would be needed the most. With his direct involvement he saved many lives; that in turn caused him to see some of his wider-picture ideals through a new perspective, strengthening his belief in solidarity and community. He found a large stash of high-quality medical equipment and supplies in the Remnants’ bunker; he found it very appropriate, that from the history that used to weigh so heavily on him, he salvaged tools of healing and mending. He also decided to dedicate a lot of his time to teaching others. Through all the hard work he managed to overcome the need to isolate himself; with his hands full as they were, there was little time or need to maintain a barrier between himself and others.

Craig Boone became permanently disabled from the injuries he sustained when defending Bitter Springs from the Legion raid. Though unsatisfied with that resolution at first, he came to realize that protecting others was the right path for him all along, and what truly mattered: not retribution for harm already done, whether it be his or someone else's doing, but stopping harm and preventing harm. Having spent some time in and around New Vegas learning to live with his new condition and doing some odd jobs, he ended up as a sniper guard for the Followers. He maintained a close friendship with Arcade and Veronica. He also began receiving proper help for his mental health issues—something that was unthinkable back when he thought his suffering was necessary.

Veronica Renata Santangelo left the Brotherhood of Steel long before the battle. She fought alongside the Courier and witnessed first-hand the victory of the independent New Vegas. With all the new possibilities that came with that, and filled with newfound enthusiasm, she refused to wander aimlessly and decided to put her skills to good use. Despite initial reluctance she attempted once more to join the Followers of the Apocalypse, and found that she fit right in. She excelled at preserving data, fixing equipment, restoring technology, and supervising the transport of supplies. Though she missed the Brotherhood, and had many regrets, to her surprise the main one was that she hadn't done this much sooner. She was well aware that the Brotherhood would one day retaliate against the robot army protecting New Vegas, and that it would be a desperate hopeless struggle of a failing, conservative ideology. Knowing she had done all she could to prevent it, she decided she had to move on from feeling responsible for the future of those who refused to listen. Her gifts were needed elsewhere, and she got to make a real difference through her own decisions.

Rose of Sharon Cassidy felt deeply conflicted about the NCR's retreat from the Mojave, and was initially quite skeptical about the future of the independent New Vegas. In the Second Battle of Hoover Dam she fought alongside the Courier and lost her arm in a brutal attack by a centurion. It felt, at first, like a price she paid in someone else's name; a punishment for someone else's mistake, all in the name of allegiance she'd never really asked for. For a time she considered returning to California, following the NCR back to its territory with its relative stability she could count on, and figuring things out from there. It took her a lot of soul-searching to make the final decision to stay and join the Followers to work with Veronica in distributing supplies across the Mojave. She had always admired their idealistic approach, though she used to find it hopelessly naive. To see it actually working out in building a proper new society, free and more equitable than ever—she just had to see for herself how it would all turn out.

Fallout Companions in Hero Forge Day 9!

Today we have the Mojave's punchiest gal Veronica!

As a scribe AND a lesbian I'd assume Veronica Renata Santangelo at least likes nature. I feel like she'd love to take time to relax and observe wildlife. Unless that wildlife is cazadores of course. Here's a rad rabbit instead.

For fancy Veronica we got her in Vera Keyes' dress! She'd still have her trademark pneumatic gauntlet when taken for a night on the town in case someone made her spill wine on her newly acquired dress.

Enclave Propaganda.

I like the designs but I think the middle would have been more cheesecake. The fallout world wasn't afraid of such figures, so I assume the modders were Leftists, and it was all too heterosexual for their hearts to handle.

Leaving aside the quality of the artwork - and it was quite impressive imo - the figures themselves are passionate. It's sexual, even if they aren't going to admit it. Of course, not all war propaganda is sexy.

But the stuff targetted at men certainly was.

And it is always men who do the fighting - and pay for the country's survival with their lives.

So the fantasy women are very sexual, or at least feminine. And they aren't wrong to do that - fight for your country, and you can be very attractive to women! Using sex as a lure for the frustrated has always worked well.

And a lot of war art is surprisingly lewd. Obviously this is not official propaganda - but they weren't punishing the men who created it.

You can already see the influence of it in the Fallout artworks.

And since The Enclave is essentially the culture of the pre-war Americans, I just think they would tend to portray women in their propaganda as being cheesecake, unless they are recruiting to women directly, and I haven't seen a lot of women in the Enclave so far. Maybe they are busy making babies as fast as they can.

"the limited numbers of the order mean that everyone is obligated to procreate" The Brotherhood is very close to The Enclave, despite being antagonists. I actually think it would be perfectly reasonable to demand babies in a situation where the alternative is human extinction, and it is not like either faction is big on freedom.

1. Hellblade: Senua's Sacrifice - Senua. A schizophrenic Celtic Pict who is deeply traumatized by the death of her lover Dillion, plus years of abuse from a cruel father. She is often terrified of her hallucinations, believes they're a curse, is beset by self-doubt, yet soldiers on into Helheim (probably) to free Dillion's soul from Hela herself. And now we’re going to see her get shit done in the sequel. Perhaps Senua’s Saga will be the story of how she became deified into the Minerva-esque goddess Senuna who inspired her name...

2. Godzilla - Mothra. The most iconic lady Kaiju and one hell of a Mama Bear, she can fight with and against the Big G himself, and has even bested him. She challenged planet-conquering King Ghidorah as a larva. Mothra gets shit done. Dr. Graham also has a special place in my heart.

3. The Shape of Water - Elisa Esposito. How can someone not love her? Her charm, her playfulness, her escapism, the fact that she masterminded rescuing her Amazonian river god bae (something Soviet Russia didn't want to do), and in the end got the fishman of her dreams and lived happily ever after. She got shit done.

4. Halo - Cortana. Specifically going with Combat Evolved through 4 and ignoring 5: Guardians. Cortana's a holographic "Smart" AI and she gets shit done. She's funny, charming, and has an interesting relationship with the Master Chief that borders on romantic. Her descent into rampancy in 4, approaching the end of her AI lifespan, was heartbreaking to watch.

5. Silent Hill 3 - Heather Mason. She’s 17 years old (probably), some nutso cult lady wants her to birth a new god and has her dad killed, and what does Heather do? Well, after a good cry and impromptu funeral, she does what no sane person does and goes to the cult’s headquarters in Silent Hill. The eldritch abomination location that, depending on the game, manifests into a reflection of one’s own personal hell and forces one to confront one’s own demons. Heather wisecracks and kicks her demons in the face.

6. The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim - Lydia. Some people don’t like Lydia. They are fools. They are also too stupid to five-foot-step back so Lydia can get out of the doorway. Lydia’s cool. She can fight up close, with a bow, and with magic staves. She’ll fight everything from bandits to vampires to giants to daedra to dragons, all because they looked at her thane funny. She sasses the Dovahkiin but is a loyal friend and housecarl, and if the game allowed it she’d probably follow you into Sovngarde and the planes of Oblivion. Also kinda helps that I headcanon my Bosmer Dovahkiin as having a massive crush on her.

7. Hellsing Ultimate - Sir Integra Fairbrook Wingates Hellsing. Last of her family line, a knight of the Round Table, head of the Hellsing Organization, and master to the vampire Alucard. Also might be a Grand Higharch of the Templars if you subscribe to Taliesin Jaffe’s theory. Nazi vampires come knocking, she cuts their heads off. She gets shot in the eye and doesn't flinch. Plus she's got a mischievous side.

8. Throne of Blood - Lady Asaji. Never thought I'd see a villainous take on the Yamato Nadeshiko trope but by god it works. She barely moves at first and when she does there's something almost dreamlike about it, speaks in respectful tones dripping with equal parts honey and venom, orchestrates Lord Tsuzuki’s murder and Washizu taking his place as lord of the castle, and never blinks. It's creepy as hell and I love it.

9. Fallout: New Vegas - Veronica Renata Santangelo. She’s a scribe in a post-apocalyptic paramilitary order of power-armored knights, an idealist in a world that eats idealism alive, constantly cracking jokes but is hiding heartache over an ex-girlfriend and regret that the Brotherhood of Steel is ignoring her pleas and continues down a dead-end road, punches things to death with a pneumatic gauntlet, and more than anything wants to wear a pretty dress.

10. Star Wars - Leia Organa. I mean... it's Fucking Huttslaying Daughter of Force Jesus Anakin, Princess Leia "Gets Shit Done" Organa.
