so Cassidy is now lost with some vulture in a whole different universe with nothing except the stuff he has on him, fun! Oh and here’s something from somewhere else:

‘Cassidy has no idea who this funky looking bird man is, and after being trapped basically forever and having time to mull things over, he would want some sort of a second chance after he lost a lot, even if it’s a stranger from another world, actually that’s his best case scenario.’

I’m still surprised I thought this Au up at all with my somewhat limited knowledge of the 2017 show in general, I did eventually go looking through wikis to make sure things were not too out of place or out of character lol

hi D! it's nice ask week! What made you start watching LS and what was it about the show that made you spiral into fandom?

Hi Rae! Thanks for the question! 💗 Apologies for how long this took me to answer. Work took over my life this week 😢 Now buckle in for a stupidly long story 😅

Firstly, I had watched the original 911s first and half of its 2nd season whenever they aired (2018/19 thanks Wikipedia) and then totally forgot all about it because again #life 😅 I did hear about a spin off whenever they announced it but I guess the only info was that it was coming soon. Wikipedia is helping out and it seems it was May 2019. I didn’t really pay it much mind because by then I had already stopped watching the og.

So I move on with my life and don’t think about either series until September 2022. I saw a youtube clip of a scene: the throwing each other against the wall hookup from 1x02. I watched it and I was like.. OH?!👀🔥🥵 Saved it to my YouTube watch later and again forgot all about it because back then I was doing full time shift work and had no time to breathe let alone watch anything new 😂 (kicking myself because I could’ve been here a year ago) 😭

Cut to this year. I can give you an exact date i rediscovered 911 verse. May 17th 2023!! 🥳 All because of the Tarlos wedding.

Twitter is probably the platform I use the most cos it’s got all my sports content😅 Anyway I happened to be on the discover/trending tab and one of the top hashtags was #TarlosWedding which was airing that day. I clicked it to investigate and scrolled through. It was full of pics and fanvids of the wedding and again I was like OH 👁👁. I liked a bunch of the tweets to revisit and moved on with my day. A few days later because I had liked all that stuff, Twitter keeps recommending me more content. So I find myself back on YouTube and watched these:

and then a series of random scenes and I was like... okay I need full context for all of this. Another month passes and it’s probably end of June/early July and I’m like let me see if this is available anywhere to watch in Australia. I find it on Disney+ and they have seasons 1-3. This is finally when I watched the show. And then I could not stop thinking about it. S4 is no where to be found though. So I google and see it’s halfway through airing on Channel 7 here which means it won’t be uploaded to Disney+ for a while. So then I’m like UGH 😒😩😤 I wanted to binge the whole season like I had for the others. I kept tabs on when it would finish airing on TV and eventually the finale airs August 14th. The next day I start it and binge the whole season on 7Plus over a few days.

Now that I had seen their entire story so far, I was full blown hyper fixating. Like they’re on my mind ALL the time. I’m reading a book or watching a movie/show and thinking about Tarlos in place of the characters. I’m listening to a song or reading a poem/lyric and being like oh that’s so Tarlos coded😂😂 At this point i’m like oh no 😅😅 The fandom life is coming for me.

Then the biggest surprise of all I start getting the urge to write fanfic again! Which is insane because I had not written anything in (redacted) years. Like nearly every time as I was about to sleep, I start having ideas and rambling it out in my notes app at stupid hours like 2am 😂😅

Next we have the writers/actors strike and I’m like 👀trust me to find a new obsession and everyone is on strike and I’m gonna get nothing new for ages. Then I remember AO3 is a thing that exists and find my way to the 911 Lone Star tag and start reading fic again. Any spare moment I had I was itching to read whatever I could get my eyeballs on. I said to you the other day that I read your gym!AU first and look I might’ve read a random 1k word one shot or two but nothing I can actually remember like yours 😂🥵 I think the added pictures and texts made it so memorable because 1. I did not know you could do that on AO3 2. Rafael is like the hottest guy I’ve ever seen 😅😅 and 3. It was just so damn good 🥵 Sm*t with feelings and I am there. You teased the feelings a little and if/when (no pressure btw) you decide to revisit this universe just know I’ll be first in line 🙋🏼‍♀️ and the reason I can recall it as the first is it’s the oldest AO3 tab saved to my safari reading list 😅

By this point I’m reading fic through the end of August and September constantly. A few I read had peoples Tumblr links in the end notes so then I remember that Tumblr also exists 😂 I come over and lurk, explore the tags, look at all the beautiful gifs, look at a few peoples blogs and make a mental note to maybe join Tumblr again. I had 2 blogs back in hs, 1 fandom specific blog that got abandoned during my last year of hs and a sports/tv-series one I used a little in the years after hs but then again #life and I didn’t touch it after like 2016.

Come September 2023. I made a new email, signed up to Tumblr again, and requested an AO3 invite. Learning how to use this site again was wild because so much had changed since I last used it. I saw something about getting mistaken for bots so I spent a little time making the blog look nice and like an actual person exists before I bothered to follow anyone or any tags. October rolls around and I finally start using it every day and now I’m here with all of y’all 💗

Hey there, I might send in another post later, but I just have to share this. It's been in my head for half of the day. But first, this is mainly for a human AU, and also content/trigger warning for toxic and abusive relationships, self-image and romantic issues, and unhealthy dynamics with "intamacy". Part of me has no idea if this is gonna end up being deleted, but please let me know if it is. I just feel the need to share this.

I have no idea how much people realise the potential for creative twins angst with the song "Mad at Disney." There's so much potential angst you could dive into for both of them with their potential views on romance. I imagine that Roman would primarily sing the verses, Remus comes in for the pre-chorus, and they share the chorus.

For Roman, it could be him lamenting the fact that all his romantic relationships so far have been one-sided, the fact that he puts his heart in other people's hands only for them to have been using him for wealth, status or pleasure. The line "What the hell is love supposed to feel like?" being about how he's well aware of what it feels like to be in love, but not what it's like for that love to be reciprocated. The ending line "No more wishing on a shooting star" could indicate Roman completely giving up on love as he can't trust his own judgement and doesn't feel like anyone will ever be telling the truth when they say I love you back.

For Remus, it could be him lamenting that he's never going to be loved. He's constantly insulted and ridiculed by his peers, and the only people who are ever nice to him are only after a "good time." At this point, he's completely convinced that nobody will ever love him, so he avoids falling himself, even keeping affectionate things like kissing out of more carnal encounters because it's so connected with love. For him, the line "what the hell is love supposed to feel like?" means that he has no idea what it feels like to have the feeling that he even could be loved, that he's worth loving. The ending line "No more wishing on a shooting star" indicates that he's resigned himself to only ever being used for the pleasure of others, and the belief that he's never gonna be worth the time and effort of growing attached let alone falling in love.

I know this is kinda heavy, but I just can't help but imagine this. I didn't even listen to the song, it just popped into my head, and I was like, "Oh yeah, that's angsty. " It honestly could incapulate most of the issues that I give the twins romantically in human AU'S. Again, please let me know if this is too dark or sad or something like that, I sometimes have a hard time telling with these things. I'll probably have something more light-hearted later, so even if this doesn't make it to your blog, you can share that info dump instead.

I finished reading Tangled Up in You by Christina Lauren and I will say it was good and enjoyable. I mean I checked it out on Hoopla yesterday after work and stayed up until midnight to finish. (The headache I got doing so is a little bit worth it).

The book both read like a fanfic and it's own thing, which was nice. Like I could easily swap out Ren and Fitz's names with Rapunzel and Eugene while reading, yet at the same time they were there own characters. And it really scratch that itch for a modern New Dream AU I have been craving for like that last few weeks. Plus it felt like it had influence from both the movie and the series. (No one will unconvince me Miriam is basically Cassandra even with how minor of a character she is). Which was nice too.

I wouldn't say it was a groundbreaking read, but it was enjoyable and fun. That's all I can ask for really. And like I am considering going to the store to buy the book to just kind of have to reread if the need arises.

I've but my thoughts on things I liked and disliked under the cut so if anyone wants to read the book you won't get spoiled.

Okay here are the things I like

Fitz calls Ren "Sunshine" - Like for the first third of the book he calls her something else, but then calls her Sunshine like on half a whim then doesn't stop. I sort of screamed with a saw it.

Both Ren and Ftiz being smart. Like yes, at one point Fitz cheats because he flunked a test because he was like annoyed Ren existed and was smart. But it's kind of implied it's his first time actually doing what he does in the book.

"There is only one room/one bed" trope is so strong and well executed. It happens every time they stop to rest on their trip but it doesn't feel overdone or overused at all. (Like there is a valid reason they share rooms, and that reason is basically money.)

The characterization for Ren and Fitz are on point. They do so many things that I was like "yup they would do that". - The scene with the floor bed was one of theses scenes. Ren makes her self a spare bed on the floor with extra pillows and blankets while Fitz showers. When they swap, Fitz sees the bed and is like "oh that was nice of her to make me a bed" and just lays down on the floor. Only for Ren to come out of the shower and tell him he stole her bed, and he just wiggles in it claim it as his. I was so like Eugene would so do that it's not even funny how actuate it feels. (Because again Fitz both feels like a character simply inspired by Eugene, and also is Eugene.)

Their first introductions to each other was great.

This books version of the Snuggly Duckling is great, and the fact that Ren tells jokes everyone to get out the situation they were in.

Their first kiss was so nice.

They did a nice job of Ren's hair cutting scene. It was Ren's choice to cut her hair, yet Fitz was the one to cut it. It was nice little combo.

Here are some of the things I disliked about the book. (They are minor things in the scope of things, and I am sure more have to do there being a line of book being a "reimagined modern version of Disney's Tangled" and not a modern AU fanfic cause copyright and stuff)

Ren knowing a ton of languages. Its kind of briefly mentioned book, but it sat so weird to me that she knew like seven languages, and not Fitz. The way the book felt like it nods to the series, that sat really weird with me, given the series made Eugene the more linguistically versed character being fully fluent in Italian enough to catch on to an art thief. For Ren to know so many languages (even with the self-taught angle) felt so weird and took me out of a moment. (Now, I didn't mind her knowing like the literal linguistic roots of words and info dumping a bit to people in that regards, that felt in characters.)

Fitz real name. This is kind of a bigger one from me for me, especially the more I think about. The name Fitz comes from his adoptive last name. Fitz in the book doesn't like his adoptive father, like it's part of his plot why he doesn't like him. It to have Fitz come from that felt off, I wish the last name more along the lines of Rider, or his name something closer to Flynn Rider and "Fitz" is just a nickname he has everyone call him and no knows where it comes from. Like he is none as [Name] "Ftiz" [Name], but everyone calls him just Fitz. Also Edward, I kept reading as Edmund, and I felt weird in a way. Even though Edward and Eugene kind of have the same name meanings (so like take it my weirdness with a grain of salt). But I don't know I wish his "birth name" was Edward Fitzsimmons instead of Fitzsimmons coming from his adoptive family. And the nickname Fitz can be the ever so nod to Eugene being Flynn Rider as name because of the Tales of Flynnigan Rider books. This doesn't make or break the book for me, it's more a wish because it felt weird given that it really a nod to Fitzherbert, only for it to be a name he basically got from someone else.

I wish there were a little more nods to the movie. I feel like so many fanfic writers in AU (and that's what this basically is at the end of the day) have away of infusing Canon events, sayings, the feel scenes or songs into moments in a fic so beautifully it feels natural. There are some nods, don't get me wrong, but they felt small looking back. And yes, it was easy in some scenes to be like "oh that's this part in the movie" but kind of a big key nod just wasn't in the book (ei. I See the Light). And could all very easily be the walking of the very thin line of "reimagined book" and "AU fanfiction", so it's fine. It didn't ruin things, I just want a little more and that's okay.

Fitz doesn't get harm in the end. Like again, I get it, skirting the line of being reimagining and an AU, this fine. But that is like Eugene dying is such a point of the movie, narratively and character wise. That like I expected him to get physically hurt in the book, maybe not fatally but like pretty severely. And then he just didn't, I was little disappointed. Like okay, Ren's trauma for the end of things gets addressed and is more of a focus, so maybe not having that happen was not to have more piled on. But I don't know it felt like a let down in a way.

Ren birth mother being an alcoholic. That might just be because I like Arianna so much that I was like not willing to accept that different version of her. However it felt unnecessary even though it kind played a role in some of the reasoning of her abduction by Gloria and Steve. But like it could have just been a nasty divorce (which would still feel weird, but whatever) and still worked.

Those are just my thoughts. Do what you will with them.

Over all I really enjoyed the book, it was fun read. And wonderfully executed the balance of being a Tangled's story retold and it's own thing. Like I said am considering buying it, since I borrowed the book to from the Library.

SPACE MOUNTAIN: THE MOVIE DISNEY WOULD MAKE IF IT HAD THE BALLS

the movie takes place in a fantasy sci-fi setting where advanced technology exists but it’s all due to magic. padmé amidala is a disney princess, the heiress guardian to space mountain, a holy site that has existed for thousands of years, a giant mountain that connects the kingdoms of the earth below to the heavens above and keeps the magical elements of the world in balance. it’s hollow inside and houses bustling high-tech cities of thousands of people, all of which padmé rules over. as its guardian and ruler, it is her job to keep space mountain balanced toward light magic. to help her, she has a council of warriors called the lumiknights who are basically the jedi. in fact, the head of the knight council, a woman named malvina luminaire, told her a prophecy that she will be the one to balance it toward the light once and for all. however, the regions below are also in a crisis due to things being shifted too much toward the light: nature is out of balance, and the land is suffering greatly for it. padmé thinks, though, that the solution to the crisis is to shift the balance more toward the light, in spite of that literally being the problem.

darth vader, on the other hand, is the demon prince of the realm of exegol; he is not fully in charge of the demon kingdom due to him still being young when his parents were dead, so his regent is supreme chancellor sidious. he was supposed to earn the princess’s trust by disguising as a human named anakin skywalker so that he could gain the secrets of the mountain for sidious and use it to plunge the realm into eternal darkness. he earns the trust of the council of knights, who eventually appoint him to the council. throughout the course of the story, he and padmé also fall in love, which is super duper forbidden because the princess of space mountain is only allowed to marry other people of noble birth. 

throughout the movie, both anakin and padmé have visions. padmé has visions of anakin turning into this horrific monster of dark magic, while anakin has visions of padmé dying after she balances space mountain--she is consumed by the mountain, but another shadowy figure seems to be benefitting from this as well. yoda is also in here, he’s a hermit who left the council a long time ago, he’s sorta a rafiki-like character who keeps trying to tell padmé that her current path is putting her in danger, but she’s like “it’s destiny, i have to follow my destiny.” there are also a ton of hints that anakin is vader, such as vader being oddly protective of padmé in his conversations with sidious and even letting her go in a fight scene. shit happens, i don’t know what, but vader gains access to the mountain’s secrets and in an absolutely apocalyptic-looking scene he corrupts the mountain, killing malvina luminaire (no graphic death is shown though, she has one of those classic cartoon getting crushed by a falling object deaths). this also plunges the land into darkness in a process that is completely irreversible unless it is unstopped by the one thing that embodies light magic the most: true love. padmé goes to try and find anakin so that their love can undo the corruption of space mountain, but vader meets her along the way. he then tells her that he is anakin, in a reveal that in this verse would be just as shocking and iconic as the “i am your father” reveal to luke.

he shapeshifts back into anakin and starts pleading with her. he tells her of his visions that she would shift the mountain to the light and then die for it, and then drops the BIGGEST BOMBSHELL……he figured out from talking to yoda that malvina luminaire’s prophecy is a LIE. malvina’s plot this entire time was to get rid of padmé by having her balance the mountain so that she would be the strongest lumiknight in the land. so vader considered not following sidious’ plot and turning the mountain dark because of his love for her, but then did it once he found out this new information in order to save her.

padmé goes to yoda and asks if this is true. yoda says something to the effect of the absolute truth this is, tried to tell you i have. she asks him what she should do now and he says that only her and anakin’s love together can bring the mountain back into balance, but that he has fallen down a very dark path and he fears that this might not work--that vader may by now be too consumed by anger and hate and lust for power to love. padmé says she has to try, and so she does. she manages to get through to him ofc, and the two of them face sidious together. possibly the best scene in all of the movie is when vader literally PUNCHES SIDIOUS DOWN A REACTOR SHAFT, like literally, he decks him in the face and sends him flying over the railing and sidious falls screaming to his death. 

padmé and anakin then go to the top of the mountain and place their hands on the summit, pouring their love into it to stabilize the mountain--the balance of light and dark solves the crisis, and there’s a scene panning across all the kingdoms around it that show how nature heals thanks to the power of these two’s magic and love, and then the two of them kiss. she also realizes that technically, since anakin is a prince--the prince of exegol--the two of them can marry, and her parents are like ‘well we can’t argue with that.’ the movie ends with padmé and anakin waving out at a cheering crowd, the guardians of space mountain, with a toddler luke in anakin’s arms and a toddler leia in padmé’s.

disney would never make this movie in real life because it would include the following things:

a mixed race neurodivergent couple (i love brown padmé, her name is sanskrit for ‘lotus flower’ so she could definitely be desi)

accurate depictions of mental illness (padmé’s depression and anakin’s bipolar), mental disability (anakin’s ADHD) and physical disability (anakin’s phantom pains)

accurate depiction of abuse that isn’t played for laughs--sidious is very much anakin’s abuser, and unlike gaston’s abuse of lefou this isn’t slapstick, it’s serious. little kids might not pick up on it but any adult can tell what it is at the way he shrinks back and flinches at sidious’ voice and the subtle gestures/threatening tones of voice that sidious makes that look like he’s about to lash out at ani.

positivity for amputees and burn victims--ani has all four prosthetic limbs and some burn scars and he’s still considered the hottest man in the land

A debt demanded to be paid, and when the king and queen of Arendelle could not uphold a promise they had made, the family paid the price. A curse was placed upon them, vowing their child would be a servant of the night. They feared their newborn daughter, Elsa, would be affected. But, she was untouched and showed no signs of this so-called curse. And, as the years went by, it was forgotten.

Until the youngest princess was born. At first, Anna was just as any infant daughter could be, and if the worry had flickered into the minds of their parents, it never came to light. Anna grew alongside her older sister, the two becoming the best of friends and dear to other’s heart. They did everything together, and for a time, even those who believed in such superstitions thought the princesses had been spared any ill fate. But, they were wrong.

After her fifth birthday, Anna appeared to have fallen ill. Sleep seemed to elude her, she became listless and constantly tired; something no one had ever seen from the overly enthusiastic child. The first full moon after her birthday finally brought about the curse they had all once feared for. The young princess was changed, forced into the form of a red wolf. Fearful and in pain from this transformation, instinct drove to protect her, lashing out at anything that dared to draw near; and Elsa, who only wished to help her little sister, was caught in the wolf’s teeth.

No one speaks of that night. The royal family is quickly kept under lock and key, withdrawn from the world and their kingdom to hide Anna and the curse that claimed her.

Anna can only shift during a full moon, at which she’s changed into a large, red/rust colored wolf. Her size at this time is considerably larger than any common wolf. (Think G.o.T dire wolf large.)

She’s generally allowed to interact with others during the other days of the month, but she’s been taught and told to be far more quiet and to herself to keep any possibility of her secret slipping out.

While human, Anna does have a few canine traits that tend to remain present. Her canines are a bit sharper and larger compared to most other people, her sense of smell, sight, and hearing is enhanced, but not quite as sensitive as they are when she’s a wolf. She can also see much easier in the dark.

Her eyes do tend to have a light glow to them in the dark, but it’s more pronounced when in moonlight. This is present both as a human and as a wolf.

While restrictions aren’t as strict or severe as in canon film, the family still withdraws themselves as a whole to lower the risk of others finding out about Anna. The general excuse given is that she’s a sickly individual and must be kept inside the castle.

The events of the first film somewhat occur, only it’s Anna who disrupts Elsa’s coronation and flees Arendelle with a group of hunters intent on capturing the werewolf princess. How events play out from there can vary depending on interactions.

New Verse: Disney Descendants!

PLEASE NOTE: This verse is mainly inspired + based off the movies and doesn’t take the books into account (though it might later on as the mun plans to read them). 

Calista Arganan is a student at Auradon Prep. She’s supposed to be next-in-line to rule at Lazulis Island, but in reality she’s actually already ruling Lazulis. Due to her uncle being too physically weak to rule after the war with the Gurak finished up, Calista had no choice but to take over ruling Lazulis while also finishing her studies. Also, though she’s technically still single, she’s engaged to Zael (who stayed back in Lazulis to learn about the politics and court life and stuff because, as a former mercenary, he needs to figure things out back there). However, that hasn’t stopped others from trying to gain her hand in marriage, which is being more annoying than anything else right now... 

Please note: Calista being engaged to Zael could change depending on what happens in threads or I could even just write her as completely single (aka NOT engaged). Feel free to ask me about this in IMs if you want to plot anything romantic with Calista in this verse. XD

Lucius Arganan is the current Count of Lazulis...but only in title. In reality, though Lucius is the face of ruling Lazulis Island, everyone really knows deep down that it’s Calista that’s truly ruling, due to Lucius being too physically weak to rule after a recent war with the Gurak Continent. If he’s not making sure Lazulis Castle is fine and when he’s not checking in on his niece via letters and other forms of communication, he’s holed up in his room at Lazulis resting. Because of his weakened state and the fact that he’s only Count in title, a lot of the other official nobles look down on him pretty badly, which isn’t great.

Zesha is the newest prisoner on the Isle of the Lost, after the war with the Gurak Continent against Lazulis Island, led by the now-deceased King Zangurak, failed. As punishment and also due to being Zangurak’s right-hand man, Zesha was sent to the Isle of the Lost to live out his days there. However, he hopes to escape one day and make it back to the Gurak Continent. 

By the end of Descendants 3, Zesha took the opportunity of the permanently-destroyed barrier to escape and is currently trying to figure out how to get back home to the Gurak Continent. 

Asthar currently assists Arganan with things back in Lazulis. However, he often comes to Auradon Prep to just kind-of check in on Calista and Therius on behalf of Arganan from time to time. After surviving his own near-murder attempt during the war between Lazulis and the Gurak, as well as how Lazulis is post-war, Asthar felt that it was best to stay in Lazulis and help where he could. This has basically resulted in him being a go-between for Calista, Therius and Arganan with him traveling back and forth from Lazulis to Auradon and back.

Therius is sent to Auradon Prep as a fellow student of Calista, and also to protect her from any harm that comes her way. Therius originally wanted to return to the Empire where he came from and train new knights for Lazulis, so being stuck as Calista’s personal bodyguard while she’s studying at Auradon threw a huge wrench into his plans. However, since protecting Calista is part of his duty as a knight, Therius does so without voicing any complaint (at least not openly).

I want to start off that this blog is no longer practicing exclusives with anybody, whether it be a relationship or otherwise. I will practice mains. That said, each verse will serve as a verse exclusive. So if I have an au that I have a ship in or that has been plotted previously with any others, I will not interact with multiples of that character in that particular verse.

Sleeping Beauty Missed Opportunities

I watched Disney’s Sleeping Beauty about ten days ago and I actually loved it a lot. The aesthetic is lovely and the music is absolutely ethereal, there was some awesome comedy and Maleficent remains such a cool villain even if she is not particularly competent at it, Phillip is probably the best Disney prince ever and I got all nostalgic so it was a great experience. I couldn’t help but notice a couple of things that had so much potential had they been explored and now I am going to write them out because they will simply not leave me alone.

- The fact that Flora’s gift to Aurora was beauty annoyed me a lot. So you’re telling me that her beauty is not only not natural, but it was also pretty much a gift wasted since it literally never played any role in anything. Aurora grew up in isolation so she could have looked as Godzilla for all anyone cared and it wouldn’t have made a difference. And to top it all, her beauty also does not play a role in Phillip falling in love with her because he falls in love with the beauty of her voice at first. It would have been much better if she was naturally pretty (as opposed to supernaturally so aka magically induced) and Flora had given her another gift. I suppose that since she is named Flora, she has something to do with flowers which is why her gift to Aurora was beauty. After all, flowers are there to look pretty and not much else. But I think it would have been a better idea if her gift to Aurora had been that of a nurturing touch that makes it so that Aurora nearly gives life to plants by just touching them. Animals are trickier but she can still heal and nurse them back to health with a little more effort. That would have been in contrast with Maleficent’s whole “kingdom” (aka the Forbidden Mountain) decaying and being in ruins and would have gone better with Fauna’s gift of the soul.

- In the scene where Maleficent appears to the Christening, it is Merryweather that tells her she was not wanted. Granted, the king and queen did not object to that but it was obvious they had already pissed off Maleficent so they probably didn’t want to get on the wrong side of the fairies whose benevolence they still had. When you think about it, though, it was Merryweather who escalated the situation into a disaster that could not be saved so my thought was that it would have been interesting to have learned a little bit more about the fairy ways and the conflict between the Three Good Fairies and Maleficent. Obviously, Maleficent has high social status since even the queen called her “Your Excellence” so the decision to not invite her to the Christening was weird and ill-advised. With a little more background info on the fairy business we could have witnessed the dilemma of the royal family that is caught in the middle of a feud they have nothing to do with aka having to choose which side to invite and risking to draw the wrath of the other upon themselves. It could have been interesting to see what would have happened if they had invited Maleficent instead of the Good Fairies in fear of what she could do if they didn’t only to have the Good Fairies paying them back for the disrespect but that would have changed the plot too much so it is probably best to explore as an AU.

- The consequences of King Stefan’s decision to burn all spinning wheels were never ever shown and that was such a great waste. The fact that the target audience is kids makes it a little bit more understandable, of course, but this could have made for a great political subplot. The decision was impulsive and was made more from the heart of the father rather than the head of the king in his desperation to protect the child he and his wife have wanted for so long. However, that will surely have economical and even political impact on the kingdom. Instead of celebrating the birth of the royal heir, they had to pay the price for protecting her. It is the fourteenth century so without spinning wheels in the whole kingdom, they could no longer turn wool into threads. Any industry including fabric would have suffered from that choice and that would have led to poverty. Now that would have been a perfect way to explore the alliance between Aurora and Phillip’s kingdoms. Maybe they signed a contract for Phillip’s kingdom to trade finished products for the resources that they need to make them coming from Aurora’s kingdom. It would have been a good way to include the aspect of royalty, politics and economics more since they already introduced it through the arranged marriage. And it would be interesting to see Aurora’s reaction once she was back at the palace to how much her subjects and the whole kingdom (even Phillip’s kingdom) had sacrificed for her well-being. Any decisions she could have made on the matter as the future ruler could have shown her introduction into her role of princess and future queen as well as her compassion and good heart.

- The king and queen’s pain over their lost daughter was never explored. They waited for years for the happiness to have a baby and when their only dream finally comes true, they are forced to give up the baby if they want to keep her alive. They can not see her for the first sixteen years of her life and by the time she comes back to the palace she is all grown up. She is not their baby daughter but a beautiful stranger that they don’t know anything about. Whatever happiness and relief there was over her being well and alive was surely overshadowed by the fact that Maleficent still succeeded in tearing their family apart. Their daughter is not dead but they lost her and she never had them. It is a horrible tragedy that the movie never even bothered to address for a second past that scene of them sending Aurora away with the Three Good Fairies. Considering all the negative repercussions the king’s decision to burn all spinning wheels must have had on the kingdom, it was a shame that they never truly showed the emotional consequences of the choice to give Aurora to the fairies to raise for the royal family. It could have added much emotional depth to the story and characters.

- In relation to that, there was a big missed opportunity with Philip also. Since his mother wasn’t there neither at the Christening, nor at the celebration of Aurora’s sixteenth birthday, a sound assumption would be that she was dead. The loss of her that Phillip and his father were going through and the loss Aurora’s parents were experiencing after they gave her away could have become a great bonding point for the two families. It has been shown that Phillip’s dad is a great friend of King Stefan so it would be safe to assume that the two met quite a lot. Phillip could have easily been brought along on those visits and since they lost their own daughter, Aurora’s parents would have probably become very fond of the boy and loved him as their own. He was to be their son-in-law one day and through him they could give their daughter all their love, by caring for him and helping raise him in any way they could. And Phillip could have come to think of them as family as well and respect them like his own parents which would have made it harder for him to stand up to the arranged marriage because he also loved them and didn’t want to hurt their feelings after all the love they’d given him. And later on, once Aurora was back home, he could have helped her get to know her parents. It would have been bittersweet that he knew them better than she did but it would have shown both his support of Aurora and the trust that binds the two families in one as well as helped both Aurora and her parents get over the pain and trauma they’ve experienced.

- This is more of a detail that would have just made things a little cooler if it’d been included but what if the gift of soul Fauna gave Aurora was the reason she was seeing Phillip in her dreams? It connected her to the living beings like the forest animals and it could have very well been the one thing helping her connect with the one she is destined to be with. It could have been a cool side thing. And maybe it also affected Phillip in some way and that was why he could communicate so effortlessly with his horse. Or they could have made it so that Phillip had also been blessed by fairies as a child and that was why he was communicating the same way with his horse that Aurora was with the forest animals and it helped them establish their dream bond.

- And one last possibility that I thought of would have been if Aurora had been raised according to fairy understanding and perception of the world. The Three Good Fairies themselves said that they knew nothing about raising a human child and Aurora neither knew they were fairies, nor had contact with any other humans in order to figure out that something wasn’t quite right with the way they were raising her and the things they were teaching her. So she grew up experienced in fairy traditions and the fairy way of looking on the world. Once she goes to the palace, she finally learns that what she’s been taught is not the human way of doing things so on top of having to patch up her family and learn the royal ways, she also has to learn the human ways. And since she’s been raised with fairy outlook on the world, she cannot believe her parents’ decision to not invite Maleficent to her Christening. It is not that she blames them but to her it seems incredibly stupid and disrespectful and she understands why Maleficent went for retribution. Since Aurora is so well versed in the fairy ways, she becomes something of an ambassador for the kingdom in its dealings with fairies (and possibly other magical creatures) to avoid repetition of history and offend another powerful being. The kingdom becomes prosperous thanks to its extraordinary princess who has managed to earn the benevolence and blessings of various fairies. There are those who do not like her since they think a human should have never been allowed the privilege to know their traditions so well but, in general, she is in the favor of most powerful beings that protect her kingdom and make it a force to be reckoned with.

Those are the things that I would have loved to have seen included or even hinted at in some way in the movie since there is a lot to cover in all the cracks of the story. Any of these would have made for great additions to the original plot imo and would have given more depth and life to the story.

Brothers from another world

I just had a weird thought...

In TW’s second chapter, Ace mentioned that he has a brother. And I’m guessing that he is older and has already graduated.

And then this came into my mind....

What if in some weird verse, Ace and Jack were brothers. Now I know that they have different last names and have different backstories. But wouldn’t it be fun to have an AU where they are brothers. And Jack when graduated, he went to serve under the real Queen of Hearts.

And even better, Jack actually went through the mirror to come to our world to serve her. After all, Jack Heart works as the Disney villain recruiters in Japan’s Disneysea. [some info for those who might know this. So during Halloween, Japan’s Disneysea brings these Villain Recruiters who try to get the guests to come to the dark side. Jack Heart is under the Queen of Hearts]

But it’s just a fun thought. Since I knew the Villain Recruiters before Twisted wonderland came out, I have a fun time coming up with ways that they can be integrated.
