Alexander Ovechkin to ref: GET OUT OF THE FUCKING WAY!

It's so so disingenuous to claim that Dany should have taken the time to separate xyz privileged persons in Meereen because "not everyone sanctioned the murder of those 163 children 😞". Oh ok. So that very wealthy, very influential man did not personally give the order. Maybe he doesn't even have slaves. But riddle me this: Where did their wealth come from? What are the historical foundations of their political power? In a society that continues to practice oppression (and a society where wealth and status is defined by it), how is it that they continue to hold as much influence and social capital as the "direct evil"? None of this is happening in a vacuum. And like....this is a society where the dehumanization of slaves is systemic. It runs policy and economics. And the people in power obviously know each other and support each other (considering the fact that they can keep wealth and influence!!!). So does it matter if xzy didn't give the order? Does it matter if they were not the ones nailing those kids to the posts? What matters is that they saw oppression, did absolutely nothing in the face of it, and continued to benefit from it. They are not innocent. Evil isn't just related to the guy pulling the trigger. The devil is also the one who's standing in the back, watching, and counting his coffers. And it terrifies me to think about what some of you would be saying in the real world, in the face of oppression. "I cannot be held accountable because I wasn't the one who pulled the trigger"....but you continued to benefit from the privilege afforded to you by the oppressive system AND DID/SAID NOTHING. By turning a blind eye, you have taken the side of the oppressor. So I'm sorry sweetie but you 👏 are 👏 part 👏 of 👏 the 👏 problem 👏 big time!

idk maybe it’s just me but i really do not give a flying fuck nor do i want to ever find out what crowley’s angel name was or if he used to be one of the other archangels
because he isn’t that angel anymore. he’s crowley, the not so demon but definitely not angel.
and i will admit that this opinion is informed by my trans self reading crowley as trans/enby. because to me finding out crowley’s angel name would be like finding out a deadname, and every time i find out a deadname of someone i know (or even someone i don’t know) i cringe. it makes me physically recoil because that is not and will never be information i need to have. i want to know your name as it is now, and if it changes tell me and i will use your new name.
i like to think it was incredibly intentional on neil’s part to have angel crowley not introduce himself as anything. because we don’t need to know what angel crowley’s name was, it is unimportant information.
i just don’t need to know what is effectively crowley’s deadname because tbh i think anthony j crowley is a sick ass name as is

*throws roses at u like confetti*
I love ur writing so much!!!!
“Then I shall take my leave of you and prove you wrong.”
“A story.”
“What?”
“Let’s make a second wager. I’ll tell you a story, and if it doesn’t move you, I’ll know I was wrong to accuse you of loneliness. Then I’ll make my amends if you’ll have them, or see you off into the night if you won’t.”
“How is that possibly related?”
“It’s a story about love. It’ll break the heart of any lonely man.”
“I have heard many love stories before.”
“Not this one,” said Hob, “Not this one, you haven’t. It’s never been told.”
“And if I have heard it before? What then, for your wasting of my time? For your insolence?”
“You can keep your own counsel on the consequences. You won’t have heard it before.”
“Very well. Tell me this story.”
“Not yet. I haven’t named the stakes if it succeeds in moving you.”
“I presume you will say you have somehow proven your offensive suggestion,” he said. “I do not think it will be a concern.”
“No. I won’t say anything on it. And I’m sorry for upsetting you. I am. I’d name a different prize.”
“What would you have?”
“A question. One question. And you’ll answer it.”
---
thank u!! taking confetti quite literally here and sharing the early bare bones dialogue from the start of a Secret WIP that only @moorishflower has ever heard abt! it is set in 1889 and a sort of 1001 Nights meets a Hob who speaks instead of hesitates when he stands up angrily after Dream does; who might say stupid things but isn't a stupid man, who sees how stories are what captivates his stranger, whose frustration at being constantly denied knowledge of his friend has boiled over and caused this fight where he tried to name the knowledge himself, who refuses to lose him, who has lived for five hundred years now and knows how to tell a story, and will use them to bargain now not for his life but for the regard of the stranger he loves.

possibly an unpopular opinion but i feel like sjm’s writing/plotting have gone downhill, which is disappointing bc i enjoyed tog so much. i actually did like the first 4 acotar books and hoeab, but her most recent work feels like she’s trying to do too much with the maasverse and it’s not well thought out (i had so many issues with the larger world plot elements of acosf and the regression on bryce’s character arc in hosab…). it feels like as she’s gotten more and more popular, whoever her current editor is doesn’t do a good job at making her ideas work best for the overall story. i’m disappointed bc the premises have so much potential but haven’t lived up to it to me :/

My most controversial money opinion is that half-dollar coins are incredibly convenient and should be more prominent in cash transactions, not just traded by collectors.
Also, they're weighty and tactile and fun and I feel like a funny little pirate with my big jingly coins.
Make more. Thank you.

I fear that culturally we're too anti-intellectual for this conversation, but I wish we could talk about how academics are in a similar position to writers/actors/musicians in that we do all the labor for institutions like universities AND academic presses and do not get the pay, treatment, or residuals that we deserve while it all gets funneled to the higher up admin and for-profit entities

there's been some debate over hobie's age but personally i think it's more interesting if he's only, like, seventeen. gwen is like "oh wow look at hobie, i know he's a teenager like me but he feels like he really has his life all worked out" or w/e & meanwhile hobie can only cook, like, three things because this is his first year since he was twelve he's lived anywhere with a working stove. like yeah he knows how to make his own clothes but if you tried to make him schedule a dentist appointment he would have a panic attack

so i know i never ever talk about it ever but i grew up on a flower farm and it is so funny how people react when i tell them that. some people are surprised that flower farms are even a thing?? like im sorry did you think the florists have big secret meadows full of wildflowers with one big but inviting tree on the top of a small hill that they frolick through every morning, singing and letting butterflies land in their hair???? and honestly even people who aren’t shocked about the sheer existence of them sometimes gets a look where i can tell they’re Definitely imagining that meadow scene skdjksjd

i have not gotten all the way through the hbomberguy video yet or anything im just a little more than halfway through but since i dont know how to talk about anything else ill say this is only a microdetail brought to mind by his mentioning of some of somertons plagiarism and using being gay(as a marginalized group) as a selling point and defense
but that it is so fucking twisted to claim to be a queer rights activist and supporter and then steal a trans asians article, written from and about the pov of a trans asian person, to remove so much of the personal trans experience and input so often "lgbtq"
like not to tinfoil hat on you but i think theres this thing thats been going on for years thats had its ups! and its had its downs. but that is ultimately, that "lgbtq" has been pushed into being marketable but in this really fucked up way wherein its like... if its gay, great! if its lgbtq, fantastic! but you get into LITERALLY!!!! any other labels that are considered "othering" (see: less marketable) it gets dicey.
like. look me in the eyes. i know, and you know, that he did that in part because he was trying to hide, well, plagiarism. but he isnt the only one that sees unique queer identities and their experiences and knows if he just packages it up pretty... if he makes himself sound smart, and if he blankets it over to "lgbtq" its more marketable.
listen. im not saying you should not ever love lgbtq or queer as blanket terms. but by referring to every singularly, uniquely queer experience as lgbtq, as queer, when it defines itself as something more specific, it ends up having a smear effect of erasure.
i think unfortunately the nature of marketability is competition, and it just sucks that that makes stupid football teams out of everything. if theres a market for it theyre gonna start a fight about it. dems vs reps, queers vs straights, gays vs trans. its very easy to want to turn everything into a fight, into support this and ditch this, instead of actually taking the time to create like... learning opportunities. a big point in all of this shouldnt be like oh well fuck these people in particular, it should be to be careful about the information youre consuming and to do some research yourself too.
theres also a good point that im seeing so many people that are surprised and shocked about people they respected and trusted turning out to be this way and never realizing so many messed up things about the sort of messages those people have been putting out. i mean like, okay, weve all seen the you are not immune to propaganda garfield, but seriously. the transphobic rhetoric was right there. the misogyny was right there. the BLATANT misinformation about gay history and its relationship with corporate was RIGHT THERE, in a nicely packaged form with clear and agreeable speaking, nice video and audio editing, and (obviously) quotable, sharable information.
👏 be! 👏 fucking! 👏 careful! 👏 about letting someones grab on marketability trick you into making an already bleak situation worse. it is so fucking easy to get caught up in us-and-them rhetoric when that is so much the worst thing to do im begging you. do not discover your mistakes and respond to them by doubling down when you recognize that it is a mistake.

ive been following the is the fox video cute blog for a while now and while i understand where theyre coming from its still a bit wild to me how pro-farm they are. like i watch videos they share sometimes and stuff bc the ethics of animal husbandry interests me a lot and like i guess the foxes seem relaxed enough? but it must be insanely boring/understimulating even if theyre not stressed to the point of illness. and like. anyone would agree that putting a cat or a dog in a cage their whole life is kinda unfair. dunno

Capitalism is the main problem, though, obviously sexism existed in pre-capitalist societies, or rather a beta version of it, because they had certain well defined roles for men and women and one could argue that those were defined based on concepts that maybe were valid at that point in time. But the fact remains: a capitalist society only thrives on profit, and the only way of profitting is through exploitation. Women are exploited, yes, but so are POC in poor countries, men included.
yeah, and men are incentivized to value misogyny because men need to maintain their power within a capitalist society
