Ensemble
Maxwell Boko and Mmuso Potsane for Mmusomaxwell
Spring/Summer 2021
Mmusomaxwell is a ready-to-wear womenswear fashion brand based in Johannesburg, South Africa, founded in 2016 by Maxwell Boko and Mmuso Potsane. Boko and Potsane met as contestants on the TV show The Intern, run by designer David Tlale, where they competed to present at South Africa Fashion week. Mmusomaxwell are known for their tailored, minimalist designs, aimed at cosmopolitan working women.
This ensemble is from the Imbokodo collection, released for Spring/Summer 2021. Through this collection Boko and Potsane wanted to critique notions of a woman’s place in society, especially in traditional African cultures. The collection featured 27 pieces in a mixture of bold shapes and colours (mainly yellow, blue, red and black). Many of the designs drew on elements of a man’s suit, with the designers exploring power dressing, and the power suit, as a tool for female empowerment.

"I'm so sorry. I thought I was going to lose you." "Why did you do it? So stupid, why did you do it?"
"I had two very good reasons. First, I am replaceable and you are not."
"You are not replaceable to me."
"Second, you're the only wife I've got or ever will have. You are my whole existence, and I will love you until my very last breath."

So you prefer Victoria and Albert ( 2001?) or Young Victoria ( 2009)?
Hi! Sorry for the late reply.
I truly enjoy both and I like that they're pretty different. "Victoria and Albert" seems to be slightly truer, such as how it shows that Albert is more hesitant at the beginning of their relationship. The 2009 movie, however, implies that Albert is in love with Victoria by the time she proposes. It is a sweet fictionalized version of their story though. I am more likely to watch "The Young Victoria" over again but I'd highly recommend watching both! The actors in both versions are excellent.

Apropriyeyshin
Laduma Ngxokolo for Maxhosa AFRICA (South Africa)
Spring/Summer 2017
The Apropriyeyshin dress is part of the 2017 Spring/ Summer collection, and was one of the first dresses to be made by Ngxokolo. With this collection Ngxokolo wanted to address cultural appropriation, but from a positive angle, recognising the way fashion can be used to celebrate different cultures and material traditions. For the collection he combined his staple Xhosa inspired patterns with traditionally western silhouettes, in this instance a form-fitted knitted maxi dress. Ngxokolo recongises that in wearing his Xhosa inspired clothes there is appropriation of sorts, yet he insists that there is a “way the people of that culture feel empowered by this form of expression”, by ensuring the recognition of Xhosa heritage within the collection.

Omg Prince Albert
The funniest thing about his new existence, aside from his unending torment, is that I could honestly see Queen Victoria DOING that in order not to be parted from him, regardless of his wishes
