September 10, 2022 - Lesser Antillean Pewee (Contopus latirostris)
Found in the Caribbean in Antigua and Barbuda, Barbados, Dominica, Guadeloupe, Martinique, Montserrat, Puerto Rico, Saint Kitts and Nevis, Saint Lucia, and Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, these tyrant flycatchers live in forests, mangroves, and shrubland. They eat insects, hunting in short flights from low perches in open areas. They build their cup-shaped nests from moss, lichen, leaves, bark, and other materials in trees or bushes where females lay clutches of two eggs.

Been kinda nervous to do this but I do want to try posting Ninjago stuff on here too. So I thought to start with what I have the most brain rot for right now! (Note: art may look blurry but if you click on it, it should become like less blurry)
Meet Ariel! If you are thinking about Disney's Ariel then you would be correct! Inspired by Vincent Tong stating how Ariel was his first crush when he was a little kid (and the reason why the fanfic even happened and why I requested him to sing "Wild Uncharted Waters" which if you haven't seen already, check it out! Born to a Ningyo mother and a human father, Ariel had it all until one night, her parents disappeared. Fearing the safety of his toddler niece, her paternal human uncle took her under his care and raised her safely in a mangrove lagoon hidden from both the land and sea. Her uncle was raised not as a human but as a Ningyo himself. For 16 years, she had stayed hidden in the mangrove lagoon along with her best friend and the mother of her best friend. For 16 years, she had no idea that she was a siren. Her life would change forever when a certain red ninja happened to fall into the very ocean Ariel secretly explored when her uncle wasn't looking.
Facts about Ariel:
Ariel's mermaid tail is based off of Cyrprinodontidae voted by members of my Ninjago server.
Ariel's fan season is called "Call of the Sea"
Kai is Ariel's love interest
Ariel stays with the ninja until after "Rebooted" but returns to the ninja as an honorary member of the team (the season in which she returns is still to be determined)
Ariel's ethnicity is Colombian-Japanese
As a Ningyo, Ariel can switch between her tail and legs easily. To have her tail, her legs need to be in the water for long periods. For example, if she walks in the rain, she won't get her tail but if she's in a bathtub, her tail will come out. To obtain her legs, she simply needs to dry off her tail.
She HATES shoes
I'm hoping to post more content as I get more confidence! If you have any questions you wish to know, feel free to reach out via my inbox <3

Hurricane Beryl—the earliest Category 4 and Category 5 storm to ever form in the Atlantic Basin—killed at least seven people as it tore through the southeastern Caribbean nations of St. Vincent and the Grenadines and Grenada on Monday, leaving behind devastation that the leaders of both countries compared to "Armageddon."
Scientists say that the record-breaking storm intensified so rapidly and so early in the season due to above-average ocean temperatures heated primarily by the burning of fossil fuels.
"What we see here are the consequences of a rampaging climate change," Prime Minister of St. Vincent and the Grenadines Ralph Gonsalves toldDemocracy Now! on Wednesday morning. "We are in the era of the Anthropocene, and the developed countries—the major emitters—are not taking this matter seriously."
Beryl made landfall on Carriacou Island in Grenada at around 11:00 am EDT on Monday as a Category 4 storm before strengthening to a Category 5 later in the day. With winds blowing as high as 150 miles per hour, it was the strongest hurricane to hit the Grenadines since at least 1851.
The storm flattened Carriacou in half an hour, Grenadian Prime Minister Dickon Mitchell said in a press briefing late Monday.
"Having seen it myself, there is really nothing that could prepare you to see this level of destruction," Mitchell told reporters. "It is almost Armageddon-like. Almost total damage or destruction of all buildings, whether they be public buildings, homes, or private facilities. Complete devastation and destruction of agriculture, complete and total destruction of the natural environment. There is literally no vegetation left anywhere on the island of Carriacou."
The hurricane also pummeled the Grenadian island of Martinique. On the two islands, which are home to around 6,000 people, the storm damaged or destroyed 98% of structures, including Carriacou's marinas, airport, and main hospital, The New York Times reported. It also wiped out electricity and communications on the two islands, damaged crops, downed trees and power lines, and flattened Carriacou's mangroves.

San Vicente Ferrer, Tayabas A small coastal town in between Gumaca and Lopez, Tayabas (now Quezon and Aurora), named after its patron Saint, Saint Vincent Ferrer, a Spanish Dominican missionary and logician who also had a sticky record regarding conversion of Jewish people to Christianity. Established by the Dominicans decades after the founding of Gumaca, it was nestled at the foot of the Sierra Madre mountain range with its rainforests and the coastal line of Lamon Bay, a part of it populated by mangroves and another part by black sand. People rely on farming and fishing for sustenance. First administered by Dominican friars, the gobernadorcillos later replaced them as heads of the town throughout the Spanish period. Later on, the presidentes municipal headed the town during the American occupation. It was a town fortified by a long line of walls and little fortresses to protect itself from invaders, though now the walls were reduced to rubble. The town celebrated the feast of its patron saint on April 5, but there were times it overlapped with the remembrance of the Holy Week. Youngsters would joke that whenever it did occur, they would spend more time mumbling prayers and listening to the pasyon than the lively band music and flirting with each other whenever they could. If they did, it would be after the Holy Week. Prominent families dominating the politics of the town include the Herreras, a family of public servants headed by the one-time presidente municipal Don Gerardo; the Asilos, known for their patriarch's and young scion's poltical and business savvy (the patriarch also participated in taking down the Rios Revolt); the Dinsmores, whose head of the family was an American who settled in the Islands and were just as unscrupulous; the de Ocampos with its overtly religious patriarch with the tendency to stick with anyone just as powerful in the land; and the Villareals who once made their mark with their liberal ideas only to be taken down by enemies on imagined allegations.

Caribbean Sea - Facts That Help You Have the Charter of Your Life
What makes a Caribbean yacht charter vacation so attractive?
The Caribbean Sea is huge - it spans over an area of 2,754,000 km² in the North Atlantic Ocean. There are over 7000 islands to choose from and they all have their individual character. So you are spoilt for choice here!
This big body of water is bordered in the South by Colombia and Venezuela and in the North by the Greater Antilles starting with Cuba. To its West lie the Central American countries of Mexico, Guatemala, Belize, Honduras, Costa Rica, Nicaragua and Panama. In the East you find the Lesser Antilles, which are divided in the Leeward Islands in the North and the Windward Islands in the South.
A myriad of gulfs and many reefs are contained in the Caribbean Sea. There is the Mesoamerican Barrier Reef which stretches over 1,000 km along the Central American Cayman Yacht Charters and is the 2nd largest barrier reef in the whole world. This is why this sea boasts such fantastic underwater fauna and flora for you to admire and explore. Diving and snorkeling here is absolutely paradisiac. In general, there is a high diversity of geography - there are coral based islands and others of volcanic origin. Depending on the altitude, the landscape can change from jungle to forest and woodland to savannah, mangrove and lagoon vegetation.
In the Caribbean you encounter tropical temperatures moderated by the trade winds. This area is spoilt by year-round sunshine and steady temperatures. The tidal range doesn't exceed half a metre. This makes sailing and mooring as well as swimming very safe. There are plenty of bays and coves where you can moor your boat, the huge number of islands and islets offers an endless possibility for sailing trips and the prevailing trade winds are predictable in force and timing, almost like clockwork.
In addition, there are many colourful festivals, different cultures and lovely towns with colonial style architecture to explore. You can sample the rich cuisine which consists of a fusion of African, Amerindian, European, East Indian, Arab and Chinese Cuisine.
What cruising grounds are there in the Caribbean?
Head to the Windward Islands like Martinique, Barbados, Saint Lucia, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines and Grenada. Saint Lucia offers wonderful long beaches to cruise along and the infrastructure for sailing is superb. Rodney Bay on the north side is a very large bay with only a small opening to the sea, due to which it is completely protected and the waters are calm. Here you can moor up in the prestigious Rodney Bay Marina that offers 253 berths for sailboats and superyachts up to 85 m along with many services. The exclusive marina at Marigot Bay on the west side is equally beautiful and protected. It can host 40 yachts up to 75 m. If you moor up there you get treated as a guest of the 5-star resort adjacent to the marina and can use all of its facilities.
Cruise the Leeward Islands including Anguilla, Antigua, Barbuda, Saint Kitts and Nevis, Guadeloupe, Saint Barths and Saint Martin. Enjoy some easy island hopping mixed with open-water passages there. Take advantage of the good duty-free shopping and the many resorts. Especially Antigua has a very indented coastline and therefore many protected marinas. Sail the idyllic British Virgin Islands located about 100 km east of Puerto Rico. They include Tortola, Anegada, Jost Van Dyke and Virgin Gorda. This popular charter destination is boasting stunning shorelines with many coral reefs in different colours. For instance, pass by the coral atoll of Anegada, which is the resting point for a lot of sunken ships and perfect for wreck diving. The British Virgin Islands stretch along either side of the approximately 90 km long Sir Francis Drake Channel and are perfectly suited for line-of-sight sailing.
Lap up the old charm of Cuba and sail around the stunning Canarreos Archipelago with the famous Cayo Largoisland south of Cuba. It has about 350 islets and is almost as long as the Florida Keys. There you encounter miles and miles of pristine white sandy beaches and bright turquoise coral reefs. This is a yacht charter in a paradise-like environment.
Which weather systems are important for your bareboat yacht charter in the Caribbean?
The climate here has often been described as "perpetual spring" thanks to the cooling easterly trade winds which create lovely temperatures throughout the year. They are always in the 20s° and 30s° and vary from summer to winter by 2° - 5° in the southern islands and by 10° - 20° in the northern islands.
Rainfall is heavily dependent on altitude and topography and generally the eastern shores, especially Dominica, Martinique and Saint Lucia, receive more rain. The precipitation is very different from island to island and within every island itself. In any case it rains most in the mountains and Mount Pelee in Martinique receives a whopping 6 m per year. The nearby Presqu'ile de la Caravelle on the east coast gets six times less. The driest islands are the Netherland Antilles consisting of Aruba, Curaçao and Bonaire. The winter months have the least rainfall in the Caribbean. This is also the main charter season, when holidaymakers from northern countries try to escape the cold weather.
June to November is hurricane season and September and October run the highest risk for tropical storms. April, June, and July have the best combination of warm temperatures and low rainfall. May brings a small rainy season in many places. From December to February it´s best to stick to southern destinations, like Saint Lucia, Antigua and Barbados.

This isn’t a World Windows post but it could be considered one.
This is for @onereyofstarlight and follows on from a discussion we were having about mangroves and Auckland.
Adelaide sits on the Gulf of St Vincent. North of Adelaide the wave action pretty much disappears and this has enabled mangroves to grow colonies up and down the coast.
Of course, being close to a metropolitan area, the damage to these fragile ecosystems has been massive. There are swaths of coastline where the mangrove forests have been annihilated. Those beaches feel ever so wrong, so sick.
But anyway, some has been saved, and I grew up aware of these places because my father used to visit a place called Port Gawler where stolen cars would be dumped and he would farm them for parts. ::rolls eyes:: (there was an attempt to go crabbing for blue swimmer crabs, but it wasn’t until about five years ago that I actually saw my first live blue swimmer crab and that was 150kms further north and in a different gulf).
Port Gawler was a beautiful place and I learnt so much about estuaries - it is where the Gawler River meets the sea (in any other country it would be Gawler Creek, but us South Australians value whatever freshwater we can get and so therefore it is a River). It is a mangrove swamp with a wide sandy flat in the middle of it and a great place to explore - until they built the motocross park in the sanddunes to formalise the ecological damage random bike riders were doing when I was a kid and now visits to the beach have to listen to the drone of multiple motorbikes - not that I’ve been there since.
But I babble as I am prone to before breakfast. I discovered the tiny mangrove crabs on the shores of tidal creeks at Port Gawler as a kid. The actual beach itself is now part of the Adelaide International Bird Sanctuary (which is up and down the entire north coast of the gulf) so some of it has been saved.
But I don’t have any pictures of Port Gawler, so why am I babbling about it? The pictures above are from a deserted ghost of a port called Port Arthur at the very top of the gulf on the Yorke Peninsula. It is an artificial break in the mangroves that is slowly healing. We stop there for photos and for the kids, because when the tide is out you can walk for miles and the sand is squishy and fun. and full of crabs and wildlife.
The reason I posted this? Cos we was talking about the little mangrove crabs that pepper the mangroves with tiny holes. I remembered I had a photo of one from Port Arthur. We found it digging in the sand/mud.
Then I found a photo of a baby mangrove tree.
Then another slightly blurry photo of a willy wagtail which would likely be related to the NZ fantail and although I have better photos of this quite common bird, this one was in a mangrove swamp, so much more applicable to the discussion :D
Also, Bri and I discovered that apparently our mangroves are the same type - Grey Mangroves. SA has two species, NZ one of them. :D So yay, we share stuff :D
And yeah, I should go get that drink, and possibly food, and really stop babbling all over my blog :D

The Richmond Vale Academy’s Contribution to the SDGs
One local venture in St. Vincent and the Grenadines that is contributing significantly to the United Nations, 2015 sustainable development goals is the Richmond Vale Academy (RVA). The RVA is in Chateaubelair which is located on the northern, rural part of St. Vincent. This local organisation is a non-profit research and training institution that offers both local and international students the opportunity to participate in courses focused on poverty reduction, environmental preservation, and climate change awareness. As such, the RVA encompasses many of the seventeen sustainable development goals into its mission and at the centre of the courses extended to its students.
Tumblr media
The Richmond Vale Academy is committed to helping build a sustainable future through ecological farming and environmental courses, Jeffers 2022.  The courses offered at the academy includes Climate Compliance, Permaculture Design, Fighting with The Poor, an Environmental, Climate Change and Biodiversity Course along with a range of short courses to help facilitate with eco-tourism such as Advanced Open Water Diving, Rescue Diving, Master Scuba Diving, Open Water Diving and Horse Training. Most of the courses provide students with the prospect of becoming a climate change activist and skills essential to develop sustainability leadership.
Tumblr media
The academy contributes to the achievement of the United Nations, 2015 sustainable development goals and specifically Goal No. 2, Goal No. 7, Goal No. 14, Goal No. 15 and Goal No. 17. Here is how the RVA is making a difference and promoting a more sustainable future.
Tumblr media
·       Goal 2- End Hunger, achieve food security and improved nutrition and promote sustainable agriculture, is supported by the academy’s ‘Sustainable Home Gardens’ project. This project has successfully completed more than 100 home gardens in local villages and intends to meet the target of 1000 gardens by 2025.
Tumblr media
·       Goal 7- Ensure access to affordable, reliable, sustainable, and modern energy for all, is championed by the academys ‘How to Build a Biogas Plant’ project which teaches locals about sustainable energy that can be employed for home cooking use. In addition, the academy utilizes solar panels for its own energy purposes and stores this solar energy on-site using batteries.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
·       Goal 14- Conserve and sustainably use the oceans, seas, and marine resources for sustainable development, is advocated by the academy through projects focusing on coastal restoration where coastal nurseries are to be created in the Grenadine islands and on the mainland of St. Vincent. According to the RVA, their plan is to reproduce 10,000 Elkhorn corals and 30,000 staghorn corals which transforms to roughly 40 hectares of reefs that will be improved in the area between St. Lucia and down to Petit St. Vincent. Furthermore, the academy is dedicated to the mangrove restoration at the Richmond coastal wetland, “which supports the overall biodiversity of many species of fish, shellfish, birds and marine mammals” (The Richmond Vale Academy, 2007).
Tumblr media Tumblr media
·       Goal 15- Protect, restore, and promote sustainable use of terrestrial ecosystems, sustainably manage forests, combat desertification, and halt and reverse land degradation and halt biodiversity loss, is promoted by the academy as it has its own organic food gardens and makes use of the forest food which has about 800 trees that were planted over a 10-year period. The academy also utilizes crop diversification to help minimise land degradation.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
·       Goal 17- Strengthen the means of implementation and revitalize the global partnership for sustainable development, is incorporated into the operations of the RVA. The academy partners with various other organisations ranging from schools, and farmers groups to governmental ministries and international developmental agencies to ensure “a more just and climate compliant future” (The Richmond Vale Academy, 2007).

Amazing Architectural Projects of the World
There are some pretty amazing buildings being constructed around the world; some of them absolutely defy conventional human civil engineering wisdom and others challenge the laws of gravity. Every year seems to take the bar higher; pioneers of material sciences, civil engineering, landscaping, interior designing are taking design and architecture to a whole new level with unbelievably futuristic spaces for work, living and play.
Here’s your introduction to some of them.
Jeddah Tower (Kingdom tower), Jeddah, Saudi Arabia
Tumblr media
To be built to 1007 metres, the Jeddah Tower is set to be the first building on the plant to breach the kilometre mark! It will have more than 200 floors with the world’s highest observation deck on the 157 th floor (26 floors have already been built up). It will house office space, luxury condos, a Four Seasons hotel and an observatory and is slated for completion in 2019. It has 12 escalators and 59 elevators with 5 of the elevators being double-decker. The architectural style being used for the building is extremely unique featuring an aerodynamic 3-sided design to tackle wind-speeds and gravity. The tapering shape of the building also helps to maximize rentable and usable area. The core of the building is narrow at the top and large at the bottom of the building. The exterior walls are made of low-conductivity glass to reduce cooling loads. When complete, this project would be all set to take over from the Burj Khalifa as the defining tower in the Gulf.
Dubai Pearl, Dubai
Tumblr media
Make no mistake about it; the Dubai Pearl is not your average high-rise. With 73 stories in 4 towers rising to 300 m, it’s a unique, mixed-use development with premium offices, residences, dining, retail, leisure and entertainment. Overlooking the Palm Jumeirah Island in the Dubai Technology and Media Zone, the Dubai Pearl is designed to provide residences for 29,000 people. There is a sky-bridge at the top connecting the 4 towers. The Dubai pearl sets new benchmarks in the Gulf for LEED-certified skyscrapers with 56% green space. It has features perfectly proportioned spaces with 51% space for branded residences, 12% for commercial space, 19% for retail and leisure and 18% for hospitality. This is one skyscraper with a difference for sure!
Agora Garden Tower, Taipei
The Agora Garden Tower is a 20-story luxury building that is eco-friendly in every sense imaginable with gardens on each floor. But wait, we haven’t even got to the piece de resistance – the brilliant design by Vincente Callebaut Architecte. Inspired by the double-helix shape of DNA, we are sure you would have seen nothing like it anywhere else. A shape that is twisting from bottom to top, the awe-inspiring design of this building makes jaws regularly drop in amazement, the building seemingly appearing to rotate 90 degrees along its profile as you move from bottom to top. The building is designed to be fully self-sufficient for energy with a couple of giant photovoltaic shades fitted at the top of the building. All the construction will be out of recycled and recyclable materials. The Agora Garden is setting new standards for brilliant design.
Dawang Mountain Resort, Changsha, China
Want never before seen design? How about resort built above an old rock quarry with a 200 feet waterfall rushing down? This project built to span two cliffs, combines an indoor ski slope, a water park and an ice world with a hotel, restaurants and shopping.
Istanbul New Airport
Tumblr media
Istanbul is one of the biggest aviation hubs in a geographic region spreading across Europe, North Africa and the Middle East. The new Istanbul airport is projected to handle 150 million passengers every year and is set have a number of firsts. Located 22 miles from Istanbul on the Black sea coast, the airport will have 6 runways and is expected to serve 90 million passengers in a year when completed in 2028. Its duty-free area is set to be the biggest in the world at 53,000 square metres and more than 400 luxury brands under one roof; When the Phase1a of construction ends in 2018, the airport will have the largest terminal in the world (under one roof) with a floor area of almost 11 million square feet; It will also have Europe’s largest car park with 24,000 spaces along with a unique, tulip-shaped ATC tower. Terminal 1 is currently under construction and the use of a slatted, blue-reflecting roof and a vaulted ceiling combine to create a very exciting space inside Terminal 1. When complete, there is no doubt whatsoever it will be the number one airport in the world in every sense of the word.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Dubai One Tower
Tumblr media
Next in the line of super-tall buildings being built in the Gulf, the Dubai One Tower will be the tallest residential tower in the world at 711 metres, when completed. To house 78000 residents, the tower will have 885 apartments, an indoor ski slope (you saw that right) and a marina. It will also have a hotel and a shopping centre inside. The indoor ski resort will be largest in the world with an unbelievable 1.2 km slope, believe it or not. The other funky part of the design is that the roof over the restaurants and cafes will be retractable for the cooler winter months. Dubai One will be the next trendsetter for residential high-rise buildings in the Gulf.
Forest City, Johor, Malaysia
Tumblr media
Forest City is one of the biggest land reclamation projects in the world, seeking to build 4 new islands from 1400 hectares of reclaimed land in a bay between Malaysia and Singapore. The project is being executed by Country Garden Pacific View and is projected to house up to 700,000 residents after about 20 years of construction. Forest City is a work-live-play integrated zone designed to support about 220,000 jobs in finance, technology and bio-technology. The architectural plan for Forest City calls for the building of a green city with rainwater and storm-water harvesting, solar power, vertical growth and dense foliage. In additional to large park areas, mangrove swamps and a green corridor, an innovative design for a rooftop network of parks and gardens is also planned for (all of which would be interconnected). The Forest City is one development which exemplifies the advancement of sustainable building tech like no other.
Eko Atlantic City, Lagos, Nigeria
Tumblr media
Eko Atlantic City is a pioneering development with the use of reclaimed land following in the steps of the likes of the Jumeirah. It seeks to build a new city off the coast of Lagos on 10 million square metres of reclamation. It will be a high-end live-work-play space with marinas and 250,000 units of prime housing when complete. The business district will be a landmark in itself and aspired to be the financial headquarters for Nigeria. The Eko Atlantic City is pioneering in the area of development in flood-prone regions in a time of global warming and rising sea levels. Believe it or now, there is an 8.5 km long wall being built around the development specifically to protect it from erosion and flooding. It is designed green in terms of water treatment and for low carbon footprints by the use of locally sourced material and environment friendly design. The Eko Atlantic city shows the way to the future in terms of the kind of development and design that would need to happen in coastal areas facing the threat of rising sea-levels.
Millennium Village, Tangerang, Indonesia
Tumblr media
Millenium Village is a global smart city being promoted in Tangerang off the Jakarta-Merak Toll road. The singular selling point of this development is that office space is located across not one but three high-rises – the 75-story Gateway Tower, the 75-story Super Tower and the 100-story Iconic tower. The Iconic tower is truly an iconic building which will be the tallest building in Indonesia when complete. With colleges, hotels, an art district, a convention center, fine dining, a club, an art museum, a 470,000 square metre mall and a health city, the Millenium Village is truly a Millenium city, not just in name. With 125 hectares of green space set apart within 600 hectares of floor area, green living aspects are well taken care of. Not just that, the Millenium Sky Park sprawls across hold your breath, 25 hectares (yes, you read that right!) of gardens right in the middle of the city. The blend of high-rise living with green development is the hallmark of this project.
Khazar Islands project, Azerbaijan
Tumblr media
The Khazar Islands project is a mega venture being developed on 41 artificial islands 25 kms from Baku, Azerbaijan in the Caspian Sea (the furthest island is located 7 kms from shore). Development is planned to occur over 2000 hectares with high-rises in several islands and a truly audacious plan to have bridges to connect built-up areas. Once complete, the Khazar Islands are set to be the emblem of Azerbaijan’s development with the centrepiece of the project being the world’s tallest tower (at that time) – The Azerbaijan Tower. When completed, the islands are expected to feature eight hotels, a yacht club and amazing enough, even a Formula 1 racetrack and an airport! This development will be a trendsetter in the area of development on reclaimed land.

“…and then, I have nature and art and poetry, and if that is not enough, what is enough?” Vincent van Gogh
This is very much what I feel. It is so hard to describe my life on the farm as its beautiful remains in the small details of our every day life. We doing what everyone else does, but yet, there is that slight little difference which makes it so unique and special. We can take advantage of the closeness of nature and the ocean and the mangroves in such an ordinary way. “And if that is not enough, what is?” These photos were taken end of February 2021, by a friend, when we were out kayaking with the boys in our mangroves at high tide. It was just splendid.

The Lore of Zendikar: Guul Draz (Part 3)
Tumblr media
The Hanging Swamp
“The Hanging Swamp, in the north of Guul Draz, is a maze of floating water globules, clots of mud and reeds, and tangled vegetation. This bizarre swamp network hangs in the air above and inside an enormous sinkhole, with roots and creepers anchoring the whole soggy mass to the sinkhole’s sides. The entire thing is in constant motion: water flows from one location to another, clumps of earth drift to new positions, and vines twist and coil around whatever solid mass happens to be nearby. Only the most expert guides can navigate the swamp with any certainty since the pathways are constantly changing, and many unprepared explorers have entered it and simply never emerged again.
The Hanging Swamp is filled with predators that use the terrain to mask their own presence and trap prey. Giant amphibians and insects abound, concealed in the vines and reeds. The deadly Guul Draz python is large enough to swallow a human, and a few small tribes of humans live in crude reed huts on some of the larger clumps of sodden ground.
Tumblr media
Zof Marsh
The northwest coast of Guul Draz is covered in a huge mangrove swamp called Zof Marsh. The red magrove trees that grow here are valued for their flowers, which are a source of a powerfully intoxicating pollen that is used to make perfumes, potions, and in high concentration, a deadly poison favored by vampire assassins. Stalking swampcats, a small clan of Tajuru-nation elves, and enormous saltwater crocodiles are prominent denizens of the marsh. An ancient ruin, the Helix of Zof, lies in the midst of the swamp, spiraling up among the mangroves from an unknown source buried in the silt at their roots.
Lake Jeft
Rivers that flow southward out of the Pelakka Karst wind their way to Lake Jeft, a large freshwater lake to the southwest. Its dark waters are thick with weeds and algae, but merfolk swim near the shores and up the rivers that feed the lake.
Tumblr media
The Lake of Dust
The northernmost part of Guul Draz is connected to Bala Ged and shared in that region’s utter destruction. The people who live nearby, including refugees who fled the area, now refer to the desolated swampland as the Lake of Dust. It is a massive scar of barren, chalky rock where no vegetation will grow and dust-filled riverbeds where water refuses to flow.”

Went for a Dolphin Cruise with my sister and bro-in-law for their birthdays today. Here be a few snapshots from the day.
These are all within metropolitan Adelaide, on the Port River and Barker Inlet (Port River is a dredged inlet that forms Port Adelaide. It is where all our sea traffic, liners, cargo ships, etc come to dock. It is also a dolphin sanctuary and sits right next to the International Bird Sanctuary.
Up top, you see the route out to Gulf of St Vincent.
Next is a couple of ibises flying past. Those of you in the eastern states of Australia may find them as common as mud and refer to them as Bin Chickens, but here in South Australia they are only just now starting to gain in numbers to be a regular sight. And besides, I think it is quite a nice piccy :D
Third image is looking over the mangroves (South Australia has several remnant areas of grey mangrove, a temperate mangrove that isn’t found much anywhere else, I think) towards the northern Adelaide Hills. It was a showery day, but we didn’t get rained on. It did make for some speccy cloud shots :D
And the last photo is the obligatory dolphin shot. Yes, I managed a single one. They move fast :D But wow, was they close. I was no more than three or four metres from this one when it surfaced.
Nutty
(I need to get out more :D Summer is coming and my camera will be out and about on beaches soon :D)
