War Historian
All children on Kamigawa learn of the Kami War. Hostilities with beings from another reality were understood, and no time was wasted in disbelief.

The Jedi Order mainly being an institution about teaching makes me sad that we never see more "Jedi classes" outside of the popular ones like martial arts, healthcare and Force wackery.
Alongside basic language and science education etc there have to be at least some trade and college courses on offer, right? The Jedi need a bunch of their own people with law degrees. Proper pedagogy studies for future crèchemasters. Cooks. Managers. All types of engineers. Electricians. Accountants. Researchers. How many Jedi hold a doctorate or professorate? Because I think a large number of them do. Their databanks are filled with millennia of dissertations. You can still find Yoda's articles from 500 years ago and cite them in your history research paper.
The Order just having its own micro-economy going on and every member getting their own regular job education next to all the lightsaber swinging adventures... pls

Even if Betty got Simon back without Golb I feel like the effects of the war and fallout would have made him a different man anyway.
Like they’re living in Ooo and while Betty sees that these are reminiscences of their old life, Simon remembers the bombs falling and people getting sick and dying. He remembers having to run for his life and care for someone who he probably believed he was lying to about things ending up okay. He watched the world, not just his personal world, fall apart.
I mean it’s somewhat hinted that Betty jumped to the future before any real effects of the war hit meaning she can’t really understand his feelings on that even if she gets the whole magic madness is a theoretical post Magic Betty state.
I like the idea that even if together something will forever separate them from being as close as they once were.

Did you know that John Laurens was a spy?????
I really didn’t til today. Greene appointed him as his personal spymaster and he did a damn good job as an intelligence officer! Really, that is such an interesting fact about this man nobody acknowledges.
“John Laurens returned to his home state after the capture of Cornwallis’s army and Gen. Greene made him his spymaster. Having chaired the legislative committee that wrote the Confiscation Act, Laurens was well poised to obtain exemptions for loyalist planters willing to spy for Congress.” (- Woody Holton, Liberty is Sweet)

kind of wild (read: annoying) how youre on every post and act like youre some sort of historian when half the shit you say is wrong
Like...?
I'm sure I've been wrong before and I will be again. I'm human; we all get things wrong at times. I try to give the best information I know at the time or writing. Sometimes it's not correct. I try to accept correction and learn from my mistakes. Eg. the time I thought perfumed buttons weren't a real thing during the 19th century and they were, or saying that the Victorians heated their homes with natural gas when it was actually coal gas. I Screw Up Sometimes, for sure!
But. I also have people getting mad that their Emotional Support History Myth isn't true and insisting that I don't know what I'm talking about, fairly often. (And t*rfs who are upset because I'm a Dirty Patriarchal Corset ApologistTM).
Unless you tell me what you're annoyed with me about, I have no way of knowing which situation this is.
(For the record, I AM "some sort of historian," depending on your definition of "historian" re: advanced degrees or work in pure academia. I've been working in history museums as an interpreter/researcher/collections assistant for 7 years. That doesn't make me always right, by any means, but...I'm only "acting like" exactly what I am.)

Can we just appreciate that, despite living in the dark ages, Homer dropped two *HUGE* epics that explored extremely complex relationships, the tragedies of war and human mortality, and Grecian gods that weren’t at all perfect?? This man literally took ancient Grecian history, theology, politics, and science and gave us this godsend.

-A mammoth 13,000 years ago.-
"I see a group of bipedal hairless creatures arrive at your area and start to settle in a nearby cave. The next day you see them dance around some weird orange and red figureless entity and when they slept and you tried to go near it, it hurt so much. Then witness them hurl a small rock at you with great accuracy the next morning, it did not hurt but you went somewhere else just to be in peace. They followed, you ran away. They followed again, and you ran again. The cycle went on and you feel tired, they don't seem to be... by all creation what are they? You ran again, nonstop, for days... but then you felt sleepy, much so that you start to dript off while running. Surely those creatures must've stopped by now, you glanced over to the nearby hill. There they we're, still and observant to you movements. You can't fight being sleepy and you drift off, but not before finding a spot deep in the trees in a cave, surely they can't find you there. They can, and they did. You hear their footsteps on the puddle of water at the cave entrance. You can't open your eyes. The only thing going through your mind right now is that please, whatever they will do, they do swiftly. But no, they start to stab you with little pointy sticks, in your neck, eyes, ear... it hurt but you have no energy to run away, you can only scream and wail. Finally at long last you fel the stick going nearer and nearer your brain. If only this wretched body of mine isnt tough, or if they were just stronger and held bigger sticks... maybe i wouldn't have had to be tormented like this..."
-End of biological read of creature's brain waves.-
"Fuck that goddamn planet" captain hv'vrd of the Kj'ghull exploration ship no. 5 said as she flew away in pure disgust, horror, and every other emotion related to those that their species can feel.
"Lmao kewl so what now?" Said Steven.
"Fuck you, I really want to dump you in deep space right now but the federation needs an ambassador from your home planet" captain hv'vrd was angry in disgust to say the least.

Going on record to say Rings of Power absolutely slaps, as a lifelong Tolkien fan I'm so disappointed the way people tried so hard to judge it before it even aired and wanted it to be bad so much that they've literally convinced people to be afraid to watch it and judge for themselves. The visuals are STUNNING, the costumes are phenomenal, the creature design is haunting and so visceral. And the characters and world feel so *lived* miss me with that shit about it being low effort or budget, you can't judge a show by a handful of promo stills. I'm glad I didn't listen to the bs takes from people who are mostly just trying to hide their bigotry behind Tolkien worshipping zealotry.

Here's what you are in Marryat's code of signals! Happy Valentine's Day, friend!
Thank you my friend!! ❤️
In the 1847 (tenth) edition of Marryat's Code of Signals, I believe I found your intended message:
Tumblr media
HOWEVER. The first thing I pulled up was the fourth edition of 1826, which has a distinctly different message for 943:
Tumblr media
Hopefully no one would be sailing around in 1847 with an edition of Marryat's Code over 20 years out of date, but this could set up some pretty catastrophic misunderstandings...

If I saw them correctly, the seven flags featured here appear to be the United States, Thailand, Austria, United Nations, Switzerland, Norway, and Indonesia. I might be wrong—they come through so quickly and at differing angles.
It would take an incredible amount of time to really dig into why each of these countries were represented, and I definitely don't have the understanding to do so with confidence in my accuracy. But for context, it is worth noting that at various points from the '50s to the '70s, among other things, the US was responsible for militarizing Austria in anticipation of it becoming "Europe's Korea" during the Korean War, incentivizing and encouraging genocide in Indonesia, and utilized Thailand as their main launching point for the majority of their bombing campaigns in Vietnam.

Quote
It is [Katherine of Valois]'s refusal to submit to male authority, as much as her wish to remarry, that lays her open to the accusation that she was governed by her lust, because her behaviour, from the lords’ perspective, was unwise, ill-advised, and reckless. In addition to Katherine’s disobedience they likely also felt disappointed in her. She had been married to a revered king, around whose memory an intense culture of commemoration flourished. Even without the potential problem of an influential stepfather for Henry VI, Katherine’s wish to marry any man, let alone a mere Welsh squire, was a profound betrayal of Henry V’s memory.
Katherine J. Lewis, “Katherine of Valois: The Vicissitudes of Reputation” | Later Plantagenet and the Wars of the Roses Consorts: Power, Influence, and Dynasty (2023)
It is conceivable that Katherine’s actions were viewed by those lords as proof of her wrongheadedness and expressed by them in the misogynistic terms conveyed by the chronicler. While this may have been how Katherine was regarded by some at court, there is no evidence that this was how she was viewed more widely. As noted above, her marriage was not publicly known, and she was not in disgrace.
