i hope when the lisa definitive edition releases old and new players start to see the party members as not only a fun mechanic to progress in the game but also as their second purpose (specified even in their gang page)

which is to tell how different the people of olathe are from eachother from good to neutral to bad.

all of the party members got their own personalities, points of view and goals, which i've always been appreciative of because it makes them all feel like they're their own person and it shows that they're not going to think exactly like you just because they're on your side.

so some of them can be assholes that despise brad for different reasons and are even creepy to buddy and others can just be neutral on the whole thing or don't care about brad but don't hate him and there are others who are nice people who just want someone to hang out and get attached to brad and it pains them to betray him at the end. some of them even got someone they care about too the same way brad cares for buddy.

and all of this is made just so you don't see them only as tools, they are written this way to show you what the people of olathe are like from a closer perspective. the only other way to do this would be using npcs which would go more overlooked, and it already IS overlooked by players

becuz over time i've seen toooo many fans who speak as if absolutely every man in olathe is an asshole and a pedo, which is why they congratulate tooley too much just for being decent to buddy. i like him but you give him too much credit for something other characters do as well.

and they talk like these are just 'olathe standards' and like it's okay for this game when No, this game condemns this type of behavior at all times and it makes it very clear. it's not normal, it's just common

i mean was terry a creep towards buddy??? bo?? carp?? shocklord? birdie? nern? olan? the warlords??? and more characters and there are even npcs who deeply question the stuff going on around buddy or are simply not interested in her

and then i see takes such as "maybe x character is gay becuz they don't seem interested in buddy". pal i can think of a million better reasons to consider a character gay (sometimes no reason at all, have fun). (also again, TOOLEY. i mean he was seen at the beehive, isn't that a better reason to think he's gay??)

you don't need to be a pedo and a rapist to be attracted to women, and it's crazy how little the concept of consent matters to some people, because this isn't the only time i've seen this type of thinking over a piece of media.

this is a way of thinking that comes from people who got into lisa for the fun battles and do not understand the story, and it's sorta okay, it's fine if the battles are your favorite thing or if you're not that fond of emotional stories, but you can't ignore this part of the game, to do that you better just play something else, because my problem is that when you try to explain the emotional matters of lisa's story they never want to listen; they preffer living in their little bubble of misinterpreting everything. (like the amount of times i've tried explaining to other fans why lisa isn't worst than her goddamn dad and it's like talking to a wall) like damn, i love the battles too but i can perfectly have both things yknow.

anyway just my silly little thoughs that have been going thru my mind these past weeks, i take this game too seriously but i also feel like it's dumb not to because that's what it wants you to do.

hope things go well when the definitive edition drops and that everyone enjoys it 8)

FIRST we should start off with the "leader" of the group, Charlie!

Charlie is an alcoholic, and probobly the most levelheaded and calm minded in the group. Hes the one keeping them together to meet their end goal (ill get into that later) Before the gang was reunited, he and lincion spent a lot of their time looking through landfills like the description says. They usually resell the stuff they find. Charlie is the fourth oldest in the group, at 42.

Lincion is Charlies boyfriend. Usually more energetic than Charlie, hes mostly accompanying Charlie on his journey for the fun (also, like. They promised not to separate LMAO) Hes smug and snappy at a lot of people, that causes him to get into trouble and Charlie having to intervene from Linc getting shot. they love each other very much and kiss :3 Lincion is the third oldest at 44.

Gameplay wise:

Linc is an SP user and Charlie is a TP user

the way theyd be gameplay wise is that they switch each turn, like a two in one :D

That would make for less moves for them, but more variety

Charlie is also one of em WASD combo users, mostly it being bottle throws. Has a healing move like birdies drinks on me

Lincions are dagger tricks, and depending on the move, can give him status moves like cool and super cool.

Hans is VERY hard headed and no nonsense. His bossy nature makes for an unfavourable time for EVERYONE around him! He doesn't want anything to do with this journey at all and wants to get it over with very quickly. He would have been the leader if it wasn't for the fact that given the choice, he would have 100% called the whole thing off, and if he didn't, his attitude would have made anyone left anyways. Hans is the second oldest at 50

Gameplay notes

SP user, mostly stat moves.

moves are simular to Nern in a way, Tells people things (wether it be the group or enimies) and can give them buffs/debuffs

basic attack is an elbow jab, does little damage.

Marcus joined the posse after charlie and the others did a favour for him. He keeps a lot of his life closed off to the gang, and isint much of a talker. Marcus is the oldest at 63.

The infamous thief, Errett! Joined the group mostly for protection from gangs and/or warlords trying to kill her, unbeknown to Charlie, who was friends with him before the flash. Banned from most warlord/gang turfs, He usually stands outside such places coming up with excuses as to why she can't come with. Errett is the 5th oldest at 41

stat dealer, main move is to steal a status move from an enemy and give it to one of the people in the party.

Joy addict, goes through withdrawl often.

attacks are randomized attacks from the other party members.

SAGEY!!! Probably one of the only ones to actually be in this group for its intended goal and not for some unrelated reason. Despite this, she acts very snappy at Charlie, mostly for the fact that he prevents her from going on a smoking/drinking binge. Shes the youngest at 37.

The famous ring fighter, and the self proclaimed most handsome one in all of olathe, Prettyboy joined this journey for more havoc to wreak upon random people who dared to pick a fight. Hes very energetic and hyper, and is the party animal of the group. His huge ego is a cover up of his insecurities. Hes the second youngest at 39.

Their main goal is to find the Carnwells' mutated brothers, Angelo and Lance, to say their final goodbyes to them. It was originally supposed to be a MUCH shorter trip, Charlie leaving the two mutants to find the rest of his siblings, but when they returned, Lance and Angelo disappeared.

copying and pasting this part because i hate retyping lisa the painful au/headcanon after the stories over and brad goes on happily with his party of strange individuals (fuck the ending im ignoring it) they go out and try to help others (they found a joy vaccine so brad and buddy are ok (please god austin i need them to be happy) brad has become the number 7 warlord but for the most part him and his group have been mostly just doing mercenary work and trying (and failing) to keep the peace of their slice of olathe rando has also found himself a bf in bo (thank you to the one person who wrote the bo/rando fanfic you give me life) brad is also getting better at being a decent father thanks to no longer being influenced by joy and since hes no longer being influenced hes also given toby back to crisp and surprisingly crisp and toby have decided to stick around so long as brad promises that toby is never in harms way

I mean pathetic in the very affectionate, very tumblr, very 'poor little meow meow'-ish sort of way.

Pathetic as in he's a bit meek. Pathetic in that, for reasons the game does not give us, the guy never once tells Brad ‘hey, Brad, it’s me, your son. Please stop hitting me.’ 

Pathetic as in canonically he's a bit of a spineless hypocrite who claims to want peace for all Olathe, but there is plenty of evidence to show that Rando soldiers far from Rando’s influence are known to stir up trouble for normal people; who abandons—we assume, though the tone of their last conversation to me implies that the desired interoperation was that Rando left in the night of his own free will as he decided Buddy was ‘beyond help’—a vulnerable child in a desert apocalypse where nearly every man in a mile radius is hellbent on violating her because things were getting "a bit too hard for him" and he never had the guts to argue with her head-on or act like an effective adult because he seems to have a pathologic fear of confrontation, even with a child. 

(This isn't just an assumption, either. Mechanically, Buddy's stat block is no where NEAR as strong as Rando's. I mean, Rando can shoot fire from his hands. He was fine, guys. For him to be a bit unnerved by Buddy, sure, that makes sense, she's an intense kid. But to say he was in fear of his life? 🙄 Puh-lease.)

Of course, I’m not saying the answer is that Rando should have physically tanned Buddy’s hide to get her to stop, of course not, that probably would have made Buddy act out even more aggressively (not to mention be quite cruel). But c’mon, Rando. There were MANY opportunities for you to give Buddy a more thorough talking to and interrogate her determination to kill the warlords, ask her why she was doing this, what did she actually think was going to come out of it. Make a real attempt to understand her. Ask “But Buddy, what do you want?”

Put another way, to use Sondheim's Into The Woods framework of morality: He's Nice but not Right, and his Goodness is a matter of opinion.

RANDO: LISA THE PAINFUL. staking his claim as a warlord in olathe, rando commands the “rando army,” seen as one of the most powerful individuals in the apocalypse. despite his reputation, rando is very soft-spoken; sporting a stutter he’s had since he was a child. he seeks love and acceptance in his adoptive “father,” (although, his father insists rando is not his son.) through his skills in martial arts, and physical warfare. he has a history with the other olathe warlords, some from the beginning of the apocalypse, and some stem from earlier years in his life. i believe rando may be an interesting pick for you!

KAZUICHI SODA: DANGANRONPA. sporting the ultimate mechanic title, kazuichi’s physical appearance isn’t out of choice; but rather for his image. sporting an intimidating exterior keeps him safer, and with a myriad of trust issues, a loud mouth, and tendency to blurt out whatever comes to mind- he found it easier to play the role of “punk” than to get into trouble without the title. when those barriers break down, however, he’s shown to a be a bit more on the clingy side of things; only when “soul friends,” as he says, have been formed.

DEDAN: OFF. the ruler of zone 1, dedan is described as an “iron fist.” he rules his zone with little to no mercy, expecting the best from his elsen- anything less results in extensive verbal bashing. dedan’s expectations are those of perfection, ensuring his zone is running smoothly, and has ... varied respect for the queen. a formidable foe, his awful temper is showcases in more ways than one; as when the player enages in combat, he claims he will “wipe that stupid smile” off the batter’s face. he may be an interesting source to look into!

Oh, so in your au Brad does remember Bernard? Also, does Brad know Rando and who Rando really is? Does Rando interact with Brad?

To that first question yes, he does! He may have lost track of Bernard for some time in the years after the Red Skull incident, but that desire for payback was always something on his mind. It got even worse when Dustin ran away, Brad needed someone to direct his pain onto. Once he became involved in the Joy project he used Yado’s resources to find Bernard and kept an eye on him since then.

As for Rando, Brad knows of Rando the warlord, leader of the army, as since he’s leader of the Joy Boys he’s much more involved with the gang dynamics in Olathe. However, he has no idea Rando is his former adopted son. Rando recognizes him of course, but makes no mention of who he really is just as he did when first encountered in the Painful. He still feels like he let Brad down and doesn’t deserve to reconnect with him, and I’m sure hearing how Brad has changed intimidates him even more.

I think Clint Moss and Tigerman are acquaintances / rivals. I personally hc Rando trained Clint so, both of them have some sort of kinship over being trained by supposedly the strongest men in Olathe. Plus as I’ve talked about prior they both like spears.

Clint Moss has respect that is incredibly hard to come by, he’s a very paranoid and closed off man and only really sticks to showing himself not as a vassal for Rando around, well, Rando.

Tiger Man obviously is similar, although his respect is pretty simple to gain . Unlike Clint who’s like a whole bunch of stupid hurdles /lh. Clint and Tigerman bested eachother in battle and since Clint has respect for Big Lincoln—in turn was pretty ok with Tigerman. (Even if Tigerman’s current relationship with Big Lincoln is super rocky in my cannon which I’ll talk about !! Maybe someday!!) I doubt Tigerman’s ever faced an actual *draw* before, and despite his dissatisfaction with no clear winner or loser, the fact Clint could match him is something he’s!!! Fairly tolerant towards!

They usually meet eachother by sheer coincidence—or Tigerman tracks Clint down. (Clint isn’t sure, but he wouldn’t put it past him.) Clint is the one who’s always talking—when they DO converse—Tigerman might point or chortle or draw something stupid in the sand but that’s the most he ever responds with. It seems Tigerman at least tolerates Clint’s shit talking of warlords and various run-ins with other gangs, enough to stay and listen.

Most of the time they just train, they have a consistent tally and they’re constantly at close scores, one overtakes the other sometimes but it really does seem they’re both scarily powerful warriors in their own right. Idk!!!! My train of though just cut off here so here’s a silly doodle of them
