Absolutely fascinating that the Magnus institute seems to have been founded on alchemy exclusively and then fear was discovered as possibly a separate force but a powerful one pretty early on. There's just something so interesting about the idea of that, how fear shaped the practices of the Magnus institute from almost but not quite the beginning, though the alchemy was still likely the main component. It makes the inner workings of both institute and fear all the more prescient considering how some of its practices were adjacent to the one we knew in archives.

okay we've already had some metagaming and kazuibashing for superstition but i think in trial three for MILGRAM we need to take it to the next level. I propose a non-exhaustive list of reasons to vote a character guilty or innocent:

how good their song sounds to you personally

intense rivalry with another milgram voter wherein your vote isn't related to the character but to cancelling out every single vote this motherfucker makes like zero pairs

mass vote-fixing to see what the biggest inno or guilty sweep we can get is

projecting the characters onto the friends that make you sad and guilty voting them in the efforts of some maleficent effect on their psyche by proxy

throwing a dart at a board

flipping a coin every day to determine your vote for that day only, repeat again the next day

whatever would piss the character off most

vote them inno if they'd look prettier with the inno green eyes on the post-vote picture and guilty if the red suits them better (aesthetics only babey!)

give the app to an ipad toddler and make them vote. doesn't matter which one

ask an old person in your community whether the character is inno or guilty after giving no context on them. repeat with a different old person every day

correlate your vote with a certain stock and when the stock price goes up, vote inno, and when the stock price goes down, vote guilty

close your eyes and spam clicks

vote inno and guilty on alternate days for an even number of days so none of your votes don't cancel each other out

use the vote like a mood tracker. good days gets an inno and bad days gets a guilty, and the character better pray you're not depressed that month

and finally, swear fealty to some nonsense headcanon a twitter user made up about them and vote with primarily that in mind

i think celebrity and influencer age kayfabe has gotten so extreme in this century that a lot of people are just going to be permanently confused about what normal human age milestones actually look like. lot of very public women "in their twenties" walking around with very clearly 40+-year-old elbows, hands, neck tendons and knee topography. and those are just the ones who don't have doctors that are clever enough to cover that shit up, which I assume most of the A list celebs are doing already with fat transfer, LED therapy, fraxel laser etc. if we ever get stem cells working on a scaled basis we'll be able to grow custom molded bioidentical fat implants and then we're really going to see some shit

Ok but, regarding TMAGP 27, I can't stop thinking about Jonah writing, after sending Archibald to a certain death, "It is done, and I am surprised to find how little remorse I feel." It reminds me of his statement in MAG 160:

"The discovery, not simply of the dark and horrible reality of the world in which you live, but that you would quite willingly doom that world and confine the billions in it to an eternity of terror and suffering, all to ensure your own happiness, to place yourself beyond pain and death and fear. (...) It is an awful thing to know about yourself."

I will never get tired of little details about his life being revealed (regardless of the timeline/dimension) because the parallel between his discovery of the supernatural world and the discovery of his own true self and the things he's capable of is so interesting and compelling to me.

Along with the knowledge of the horrors that exist in his world comes the horror of the realization that he might be capable of anything to stop feeling scared and vulnerable, to put himself over everybody else if necessary. Every time curiosity leads him into a new experiment, a new sacrifice in the name of knowledge, he lets go a little bit of himself and his morality. And then, as it happened with Archibald, and as it happened with Barnabas in another world, he feels surprised of how easy it was. Of how he doesn't feel regret or grief, how at most he finds himself thinking that it was all a pity. So it becomes even easier each time, he finds freedom in it, as he also mentions in MAG 160— and one sacrifice after another, it all becomes incredibly simple. There is no fear of losing himself, only the fear of death and pain remains, and only after that process of two hundreds years can one condemn the world for his own sake.

The progressive descent into evil of Jonah Magnus, slowly exposed through statements and letters, will never stop being one of the more interesting parts of this podcast imo.

they got him 😔😔 the horrors got sam 😔😔 also i found this to be an interesting contrast to jon's heavy resistance in season 1 like he was being compelled but he wasn't going to let anyone know that vs sam "its kinda compelling to trauma dump on this paperwork :]" how is he somehow even more victim material

she's so fucking funny i need her to be okay so badly!!!! i don't think even tim made me laugh as much as she makes me chuckle and this one really got me. it's hard to write such a comedic character in a podcast since you only have the voice but they really nailed it i adore her

each of these episodes just reveal a little bit more about how loving and soft gwen is and idk i love her so unbelievably much so seeing that she felt guilt about the bonzo stuff just made her so much more real :(

episode 14: "Christ, they’re in the walls…" - statement

theyre in the walls!!! theyre in the goddamn walls!!!!! anyway that got me because i realized the hole before the statement said it. made more sad than scared tbh

episode 15: "Babies are cool!" - alice this entire interaction between her and sam & celia was so awkward, she is so obvious and i love her anyway

episode 16: "It’s not like I was holding doors open for Mr Bonzo or anything." - gwen my wife is so so so stupid but i adore her AND this gives room for character development. i wish she did not do that though. i love when characters are flawed and have depth but i struggled to get past THIS flaw of hers

episode 17: "Thanks, I guess. Not exactly the same, though, is it?" - celia shes talking TO JON IN THE COMPUTER. SHE KNOWS. i lost my damn mind i love her i love her. get the gay people out of the puter please queen

episode 18: "Why would I need to talk to you? Your work is satisfactory. Unless you have a work-related issue I could assist you with?" - lena solidified my opinion that lena is the best boss to ever have, i adore her and i would want to work for her if she wasn't the boss of Creepy Establishment #1

episode 19: "You’re going to throw it in the fishtank, aren’t you?" - alice colin's behavior is like really worrying BUT i'm glad he's back. i was not convinced he was still alive

episode 20: "I suppose it’s too late for remorse, isn’t it? And why should I be sorry? This is what I deserve!" - ink5oul/statement they reminded me of jon a lot, like especially his season 3/4 transformation when he doesn't quite know everything but he knows he isn't who he was in season 1 anymore, i hope we see more of their life and they can be helped :(
