Che’nya I just found out I may or may not have BPD. Give me advice on what to do with this information

Che’nya: I know the ask was technically for me, but I just don’t feel comfortable answering such a heavy ask with my usual light-hearted Che’nya answers. Which means it’s really more AR’s place than mine. Hope you don’t mind - we both care about you too, so I think it works out. 💜

AR: I will give the usual disclaimer that I am not a therapist, though I’m sure you’re know that and did not come here for that. But I wanted to get that out of the way first so we can just move right along. I will also put the rest under the cut, as this isn’t the usual Cheshire Cat content. 😊

Okay, this is long because not only is mental illness a topic I care about lot about… I also genuinely care about you. You’re one of the people I talk to on here and so I consider you one of my friends. And when it comes to the things/people I care about… I tend to talk. Even more than usual. You have been warned.

Altair, I’ll be honest, BPD is hard - though I’m sure you’re the last person I need to tell that to. I don’t have it myself, but I’ve known people who have it and I know they struggle. So hearing that you have it, or even that you may have, which means you show enough characteristics of it that the diagnosis is on the table… my heart goes out to you. I may not have BPD, but I do know what it’s like to live with mental illnesses.

My advice… I suppose the best advice I can give is to try not to look at this as a bad thing but as a good one. I know that may seem really hard, but hear me out. Now that you’re aware of your BPD, you can hopefully get help for it, or more specialized treatment for it if you were already receiving help.

I know finally being put on the right meds for your needs after years of being misdiagnosed or getting the right therapist/psychiatrist that you just “click” with can work wonders.

Just recently one of my favorite comic artists, “Art by Moga” was finally diagnosed as bipolar after years of being misdiagnosed and going unmedicated. And it has, according to her, legitimately changed her life for the better.

And I know learning I had Dyscalculia on top of all my other problems really helped me figure out why the way I am about certain things and not feel so self conscious about my difficulties with numbers and math.

Those are obviously not BPD, but I’m hoping the stories may end up being the same for you - hopefully being diagnosed will be a stepping stone to you finally finding a better, happier way of living your life!

But I know either way it’s tough to deal with that kind of diagnosis, so I would say try to be around people you care about and that care about you. Be with your support system. Get all the love and care. You deserve it. Do the things that make you happy. Get some TLC. You fucking deserve it. I give you permission to treat yourself.

But above all else, remember that having borderline personality disorder does NOT mean you are broken or unlovable or anything else. I’m not going to say that cliché line of “you’re perfect just the way you are” because even I don’t believe that about myself. You asked for advice and I’m not going to give you advice I can’t follow on my own. I’m not that kind of hypocrite. I always think there’s room to grow and improve and change. No one is perfect. And thank fuck for that because otherwise people would point at them and tell us all to reach for them as the standard.

So you’re not perfect. Neither am I. And the you before finding out you have/may have BPD is the same as the you now…

You are still the person who would send Che’nya random rizz pickup lines that oftenalways ended in hilarious ways that you didn’t intend that made me, and I hope you, smile.

You are still the person who made that sick-ass Mickey Mouse Clubhouse Martian Mickey twst OC and shared it with me and you’re excitement was so fun and contagious.

You are the person who told me about your other twst OC, Pawn, and his sentient mandolin, Mandy, and didn’t even call me rude when I sent you a block text of questions about Pawn’s relationship with Rook.

You are still the person who Che’nya sang an entire fucking Melanie Martinez musical number to, simply because it was you and you’re fun to have fun with.

You are still one of the very few people that interacts with this blog regularly in private messages rather than strictly via asks or posts - because we talk ooc so often, which means you are not just friends with Che’nya, you’re friends with me, AR.

You are still you.

And you is the person I am friends with.

And I think you is pretty damn great.

💜 Mashallah! I'm going to try and HORRIBLY fail to convey my love for this book (you can totally tell I'm a writer some days, can't you?). We Hunt the Flame is everything you romantasy lovers could ever ask for with an eloquent grasp of language most writers could only hope to achieve. Hafsah Faizal's Middle Eastern-inspired fantasy transcends pen and page. Her characters are brutally flawed, aching with familial pressures, loss, and pain, clinging to thin threads of hope for more; each with unique voices, motivations, and quirks that bring them off the page and into our homes (and hearts). Your feet will crunch over the ice of Demenhur, traverse the Sharr's forestry, tiptoe across glossy tiled floors of Sultan's Keep. With every breath, you'll smell kibbeh garnished with mint or the zest of Kifah's rich spices over rabbit, taste the tang of zataar or rich qahwa against your tongue. You know I love when stories make a character's culture relatable through food, but reading We Hunt the Flame had me craving ma'amoul and katayef in the worst way. Okay, getting side-tracked.

💜 If the vivid imagery and powerful prose don't capture you, the characters will. Zafira is burdened with responsibility yet forced to hide her identity as a woman under a hook and cloak, presenting her accomplishments as those of a man. She feeds her entire village, expecting and receiving nothing in return. Her heart is heavy with grief and guilt--much as Nasir's is. That parallel creates a foundation for their slow-burn romance, their chemistry undeniable but their sense of duty, guilt, and heavy hearts getting in the way. Oh, and Nasir was sent to kill Zafira, so that's an issue, too. (Sneaking back into this review after reading We Free the Stars: khara, it gets SO MUCH MORE INTENSE!!!). They're snippy and bitter with one another, those quick barbs adding to the tension between them, and yet there's a spark of mutual respect and understanding they've never found in anyone else. If you love an "I hate everyone but you" kind of romance, this is it!

💜 Speaking of snipe, Altair. Sweet baby boy, his sass is EVERYTHING. Altair and Nasir's bromance (*coughs*) is an enemies to besties mess in the making. Alongside our other side characters, Benyamin and Kifah, these five create a found family "zumra" you'll absolutely adore.

💙 My only issue was the pacing, slowed due to the amount of introspection. Zafira and Nasir aren't the type of characters to talk out their feelings with others; of COURSE they're going to internalize everything. While I recognize that this was the only way the story would work, it did cause the story to drag at certain points. I also guessed at a few things, but Faizal sprinkled the breadcrumbs of her story with care, creating an intricate tapestry that unites the zumra and their individual threads into a singular epic.

1. Wei Wuxian

Honestly I love every version of him. Novel. Donghua. Manhua. Live-action movie. He is such an amazing character, living up to the expectations of his family and Jiang's motto and yet he was hated by almost everyone. His smile always makes me happy. I love him.

Altair is and will always be my, fave, thirst, comfort and every kind of character. He is not only handsome but he is simply amazing. A good person such as himself is rare to find. He suffered so much in his life and yet had the strenght to teach himself love.

3. Lavi

There is something about Lavi that always makes me feel curious. Maybe it's because of his mysterious past. Maybe because we never get to know his motives. Maybe because after 5 fucking years i still dont know if he is alive. But he was first anime character i fell in love with.

4. Aquaman

I was watching all dc and marvel Cartoon when I was a child and I had so many comfort characters! I still have a lot but I love how Jason portrays Artur. Maybe because I find him incredibly handsome, maybe... 👀 Anyway i stan.

5. Loki

Loki. He just makes me happy okay? Especially after seeing Loki series where it was showes that yes, he os capable of love and there are lots and lots of things he regrets.

Okay so that's my comfort character and! Wei Wuxian is the special one, hence his 1st place. He is the only character i never shipped with any OC or self-shipped with myself. Tho i have a story for him 👀

Seeing all your love for kotsam convinced me to finally get it and I love it so much!!! I was just wondering if you had tips for playing through book one? There are just so many different routes, secrets, nuances, etc. and I was curious what your favorites were

Again, another of those messages which warm to the core 💕 I’m so happy to read that I got you into kotsam and you enjoyed it, I mean it 🥺💜

mmm regarding tips I don’t have anything other than play as many combinations as possible but I can totally give you some nice combinations I found to give you a more detailed experience (either in book 1 or book 2)  and all that if you want! If you are looking for something else do let me know!

Try the hunter route! It’s actually tied with the Nephilim one for second place after the kitsune one! (I recommend Altair, Cressida or Kol’s routes)

Play Leon route with a kitsune and a nephilim, preferably with the single dad option

Play Seraphina with a kitsune and single dad option

Play a Nephilim with Cressida, Cyrus or Leon

I really enjoyed Yakov’s route with a magician and both parents options

I liked Altair route with the single mum option!

I would recommend romancing one of the cambions with one nephilim (or the other way around)

Investigating the Delacroix Massacre and missing going out to town is worth it for future plot reasons! but you should totally do some playthoughrs going to the city with your suitemates.

That being said, investigating the town hall accident is nor worth it lol

Those are like, the things that come to mind right now! (some of the cool things about this show up in book 2 but i mentioned them just in case)

Regarding favorites: 

mmmm, my favorite routes are obviously Leon and i love Cyrus too!! Favorite species is definitely kitsune followed by nephilim and hunter. 

I also really liked knowing about Roxanna being a nymph and that we can be related to Celosia! Oh and I also liked the small details if you are a nephilim dating a cambion (or the other way around), i’m hoping we get to see more of it during book 3!

And I loved the holidays’ option to take Seraphina, Katia or Kol home with us!!

Today was a busy day but a good one. I finally got to meet the @signifycompany colleagues in Sri Lanka which was nice and to learn about their market 😊, thanks for the lovely notebooks and pens and all the hospitality, looking forward to seeing you all next time. After this we went to meet the cousins @altairsrilanka for some drinks and a swim which was fun along with some amazing views from the 63rd floor pool deck. After this we went for a delicious dinner and drinks @parkstreetmews starting off with drinks @uncles_colombo and then dinner @monsooncolombo 😋. On the way there, we drove past the new Cinnamon Life complex with the windows down and was getting told some information about the architecture from my aunt and @shasthi_silva kept make us laugh by saying she smelt eggs or farts from the river 🤣🤣. At this point I was in hysterics due to the way she was saying it all 🤣🤣. YES, YOUR KNIFEY IS BACK. 🍾 And I don’t plan to go anywhere so it seems you are stuck with me from now. Mwahahahaha.

First of all I would like to congratulate you! I am so so SO PROUD OF YOU, my beloved Master! You totally deserve good rest and I hope you will have fun in Prague! I always wanted to see it myself, Prague is such beautiful city! There is The Mucha Museum and I would kill to be there and see works of one of my favourite artists myself. And Astronomical Clock! Ooooh, so many things to see! I hope you post some photos on your blog!

What are you going to do after your 3 month break? Having any plans already?

Well.. Those 8 days in Italy were so intense and a lot things happened. For example, MY BEST FRIENDS GOT ENGAGED!!! I am still in shock and can’t believe in it, but I am so happy for them! They are so beautiful together! The funny thing is, me and my friend came to senses few hours after announcement and we decided to throw surprise party for them. You can imagine how hard it was, since we were going everywhere together. And our love-birds were ruining all our evil plans with consequence. Our first idea was taking them to fancy restaurant to celebrate their engagement but nooo, let’s have pizza tonight! Or maybe aperitivo would be better idea! So we struggled for two freaking days and we end up buying them a cake and a champagne. It was miracle that we did it and they didn’t notice anything. I was buying candles with my engaged friend standing one meter away. All of this was on the highest adrenaline level ever.

We had beautiful apartament in Lucignano. The last night was spectacular! We had terrace on the rooftop so we spend time laying on our chairs with blankets and stargazing. There was thunderstorm, far away, on the horizon. We haven’t heard anything, we just saw lightnings. Have you ever seen The Lord of The Rings? It felt like we have seen Mordor from Minas Tirith. Unbelievable! And there were so many shooting stars!

Florence itself was amazing as always! Thanks to pandemy the city was almost empty and it was wonderful. Last time I was in Florence there were so many people we cannot move to be honest. Now we could see everything. If you will ever be in Florence Piazzale Michelangelo is totally must see. We were there before sunset and gods, that was a view!

But no, I am not in the mood for our Italian assassin. XD I don’t know, but I feel Ezio is overrated. Yeah, I like him, but he cannot compete with Altair. And Shay. And Edward. Aaaand Connor. And Bayek. And omg, I’m really into some good AC stuff. I'm going to re-read your posts while waiting for your OC/Altair story and rest of the requests. I read your previous descriptions of Amara’s story and geez, I AM WAITING IMPATIENTLY. Your latest headcanons made me cry a bit. They were really good! Also PMS spare no one and topic is really close to my heart. Edward’s headcanons definitely hit right in my heart. Thank you so much for making such good content! And writing all my requests! I know I can be pain in the ass, haha, but you have to deal with me.

Ezio... Well I started to play ac games a bit over a year ago so I missed all Ezio hype and drama. I enjoy him as a character but I still stand by my words - Altair is the best and my fave assassin. I will always simp protect my boi! But in all honestly I enjoy all ac characters. Every has something interesting in them.
