i love writing about devotion and its mirror image, obsession. in lofm, this gets so messy. you have nur who's obsessed with her brother mu'adh and determined to make it everyone's problem, and then she gets obsessed with halah. you have raoul devoted to sirin who is devoted to her kid to the exclusion of almost everything and everyone else. you have halah reluctantly obsessed fixated on raoul until she finally learns to let go of him. you have ilyas devoted to halah and raoul and the conflict that puts him in. and kicking off all of this, you have haitham absolutely obsessed with nur's mom (also named nur, which is a whole other can of worms) even though she broke his heart...and is absolutely unaware of it. nur's mom is similarly obsessed with haitham, and makes it their daughter's problem, and then dies obsessed with him.

sage (the 'you' pov in oracle) is a disaster. he's got a negative character arc for sure, and i think it's the first time? i've written an MC with a negative arc??? anyway i'm excited to unravel him into his worst self <3 he will not get better <3

i have this thing about the inherent vulnerability and intimacy of seeing someone barefoot, which i know makes it sound like i have a foot fetish lmao but ah well. from rivener:

She’s softer around the face, like she’s gained weight she’d never had before, though he remembers her eating well. Her feet are bare. It’s a small and pointless detail that shouldn’t throw him as much as it does, but there’s something—something so strange about it. transformers: rise of the beast + what i loved about it

this movie was absolutely PHENOMENAL and had me on the edge of my seat for the majority of it. it's the first time i've seen a transformers movie in the theater, and i'm obsessed. i've loved transformers for the longest time, so this movie just had absolutely everything.

so below i've put together a list of everything i loved, my favorite moments, little over-analysis bits, all of that good stuff!

spoilers below if you care!!

first off, i absolutely loved how they set up the Maximals, and gave them such a distinct look and storyline. it was a great way of introducing new characters, as well as setting up the main plot device of the key!

Noah's relationship with Kris made me so emotional, like he loves his little brother SO much, and Kris loves him just as much, like UGH SIBLING DYNAMICS

Elena my beloved beloved nerd

She's one of my favorite characters in the movie, and I love how they portrayed how much she loves research, and how much knowledge she has

Obsessed with Noah keeping track of Mirage's braincell within the first five minutes of their meeting

but also their meeting + beginning scene, absolutely no thoughts in either of their heads (affectionate)

Noah and Mirage's friendship being built from the very first car chase, and them communicating so well even before Noah knows what Mirage is!!!

"I work in a museum and you've broken in and now we're hunting for an ancient artifact together" is SUCH a quality trope and Noah and Elena are so valid

Just saying I don't think I've ever happy-stimmed so much during a movie then I did when I saw Optimus and Bee show up on screen

Optimus being so against trusting the humans vs. how protective and fond he is of them in the Bayverse movies was such a good choice, and i'm so happy they gave Optimus more of a character arc!!

THEY REFERENCED CHARLIE AND THE BUMBLEBEE MOVIE REALLY BRIEFLY AND BUMBLEBEE GOT ALL SAD AND WAS LIKE "I HAVE A FRIEND" BECAUSE HE LOVES CHARLIE SM

Going off of that, Elena finally giving us an "Optimus is Bee's big brother" confirmation made me SO happy

listen Transformers Prime traumatized me with Bee's death first, so I still have a hold over from that era

I love Wheeljack with my whole heart and was absolutely terrified he was going to die during the battle with the Terrorcons

the Maximals are so fucking cool, I love their designs, and Primal's entire character???? beloved????? fantastic??

12. favorite character to write about this year I have so many. XD But one of them is very definitely Prince Imrahil of Dol Amroth, who gets very little page-time in Return of the King, and scandalously NO SCREEN TIME AT ALL WHAT THE HELL PJ; he is something of a blank slate and I love coming up with aspects of his character based on what is known about him or what I can extrapolate from that - he's a really rather magnificent soldier, he's been rather helping his brother-in-law Denethor to hold Gondor together, he's a father and a prince and older than he looks and really very handsome and he has a well-hidden but rather wicked sense of humour, and my Legolas adores him. He's another one who's been kicking about in my head for 20-odd years, mostly through Legolas' eyes, and I've so enjoyed expanding on their story through various one-shots this year.

14. a fic you didn’t expect to write Oh, this is definitely the Arwen's-brothers-hanahaki-fic. You know me, I don't do tropes, but the premise for this one came to me in a dream, and I already ship the bejesus out of them, and it made SO MUCH SENSE. Like...hanahaki always seems coercive to me - if you don't love me back I'll die - but if they both have it because they're pining away for each other and not talking to each other about it because they think it's forbidden because they're twins and Arwen is the one with the braincell who makes them sort it out? DELICIOUS. I really enjoyed writing it, although it also turned out far smuttier than I was expecting, and I really don't care that it hasn't had much response because that bit I was expecting, given the pairing. :D

19. any new fics to start next year I don't know, tbqh. I really want to get my everlasting WIPs sorted out, and I haven't had any original ideas in ages (the aforementioned twins-hanahaki fic was the first I'd had in a very long time); I think the Sigrid-and-Tauriel companion fic for Empty Vessel may not ever actually materialise, and I've already started the twins-make-their-choice-between-mortality-and-immortality fic but haven't made much headway on it, much to my frustration. Nothing else springs immediately to mind, but I guess we'll see!

I'm doing alright! I've been very busy this semester, and we are approaching finals so it's probably only going to get busier soon. But! This has been my first semester mostly in person in a very long time! And I'm officially fully in uni rather than dual credit, so I'm somewhere else now and have met SO many people. Actually am planning to meet up with one of them tomorrow to go to a restaurant/museum for class! And to watch a few movies with two others sometime soon.

And I am rather nervous about it because Fitz and Tam are both particular characters, and so combining them just makes them even harder to write. and THEN! throwing in Fitz's Alvar feelings makes that EVEN MORE difficult. but! it was also an absolute delight to work on so I hope you like it :)

and holy shit wings au art!!! i trust you so much I am so excited to see it--and don't worry about however long it takes! wings au is years in the writing, i've got experience with patience. wait btw, I don't know if you're aware, but I'm attempting to post the epilogue soon! I have the rough draft and the anniversary is coming up, so I'm hoping to have it edited to post on the ending's anniversary. it's a little over a week away, but also finals are descending AND its nano, so we'll see what happens. it WILL be out by the end of the year for certain though (and during october I went through and re-edited the whole thing for grammar and details--it's ridiculous how many its it's mistakes there were because i KNEW the difference. i'd just autopilot do one or the other and not catch it in my quick edits)
