I'm so happy to have a chance to showcase my new backpack and actually get out and use it today. It leads me to say many things. So what do I look like when I'm out and about and in my usual hiking and Woodsman role? Well, that role is pretty much a lifestyle for me. This picture accurately sums up all of the characteristics you'll find with me. In fact, let's go into a little detail about my usual wardrobe choices. Just about any time in the spring, fall, and winter you'll find me wearing functional wool pants #weatherwool or something similar. Buffalo plaid has always been a favorite of mine and you'll find it scattered throughout my wardrobe. Hats, always wearing a hat. Whether it's a Duluth wool, #askovfinlayson North, my black Amish knit cap, or my newest favorite for the cool temps, an #organicclimbing cap. Then there's my Dollywood handmade hat that my wife got for me, or a lightweight Tilley hat with Brim in the summer. Practically all of these are usa-made products, tilley being made in Canada. Utility. Function. Traditional yet classic that never wears out. Super shout out to my brother @ruthworkssf for this absolutely sick backpack that he custom made for me with all the specs that I wanted. The quality far exceeded anything that I could have dreamed of. To think that a rugged bushcrafter type backpack such as this was crafted in San Francisco on the west coast! Speaks volumes about the variety of characters that we work with each day the potential of each of these Craftsman and builders! Thanks again to Brian and Monica @carsickdesigns for the awesome water bottle pouch that fits perfectly on my backpack belt. The super high quality materials that they use are unbelievable as well and once again, it showcases the level of Craftsmanship that are within easy reach of anyone of us that wants a fine quality item. #garrettwadeax #ruthworkssf #bushcraftpack #bushcrafterlife #bushcrafters #carsickdesigns #weatherproofplaid #outdoorlifestyle #outdoorlife

25 Smaller Menswear Brands and Stores having Black Friday 2018 Sales
One of the top posts over on the frugalmalefashion subreddit right now asks “What are some small brands/companies that you love having great sales this weekend?”
Hopefully this post helps answer that question.
To be transparent, I’m not familiar with all of these companies. But after compiling a post of great sales from multi-billion-dollar companies, I’ve enjoyed the process of going through these more boutique sites, learning about their back stories and finding cool merchandise.
American Trench
15% off sitewide with code BFCM. Pictured above, WeatherWool Peacoat in Olive.
American Trench started off bringing a “Made in USA” trench coat to market, and has since expanded into other garments, including some neat collaborations (see my earlier post about their shirts with Epaulet). They just announced an epic-looking Jeep Coat, but I think I’m more into their Silver Traveler Socks.
Armitage & McMillan
30% off entire store (excluding eyewear) with code BLACKFRIDAY.
Men’s shop in Denver, founded by a pair of guys who used to work for UNIS and Brooklyn Circus. Brands they carry include APC, Gitman Vintage, Lady White, Norse Projects, and UNIS.
Battenwear
20% off all apparel with promo code Battensgiving2018. Code expires Tuesday 11/27.
Outerwear line designed by Shinya Hasegawa, who worked with Daiki Suzuki on Woolrich Woolen Mills. Inspired by surf and outdoor wear from the 1960s through 1980s.
BlackBlue
20% off “seasonal items”. Click the link above to see what’s included.
Sale includes Barena, Corridor, Gitman, Monitaly, orSlow and Yuketen.
Bluer Denim
50% off entire shop with code BLACK50.
Brave Star Selvage
10% to 20% off. See site for promo codes.
A small denim brand that produces relatively affordable jeans and jackets in Los Angeles from Japanese and Cone Mills denim. They seem to get consistently reviews on the rawdenim subreddit. Will very likely make my next jeans purchase from them.
Bridge & Burn
20% off all Bridge & Burn goods with code NOV20.
West-coast inspired outwear. Based in Portland, OR.
Division Road
They’re supposed to be running a 20% off apparel and accessories promotion, but the code isn’t working for me. I’ll update the post if that changes.
eHaberdasher
Flash sales on shawl-collar cardigans, flannel trousers, and Carmina shoes.
Pretty much the only place I buy my tailored clothes at this point. Always a fantastic value. You really should check the whole site, especially jackets and trousers.
Franklin & Poe
20% off with code TOFURKEY. Exclusions apply.
This store carries some great brands. And although exclusions apply, the code appears to work on 3Sixteen denim.
Grand Frank
50% off select merchandise.
Don’t know much about this brand, and there isn’t much out there, but they’ve got some great-looking “Made in Italy” suede jackets at suspiciously low prices. Caveat emptor, but I’m in for one. I’ll try to remember to report back on my experience.
Kent Wang
Okay, this is a bit of a stretch because Kent Wang never goes on sale, and makes a point of saying so every Black Friday. Their business model means they offer an everyday great value. I can appreciate that.
Kiriko
20% off your entire purchase with code KINYOUBI. Free gifts at $100, $200, and $300 spend.
“Kiriko Made is a Portland based Japanese textiles and apparel brand forged from the spirit of Mottainai; a Japanese value that embraces one to waste nothing and recycle everything.” Cool.
Loyal Stricklin
30% off on Black Friday with code BLACKFRIDAY18.
Leather goods crafted in Nashville, Tennessee. 20% of profits are donated to charities. Their 2018 donations go to the International Justice Mission, which fights modern-day slavery.
Namu Shop
30% off sitewide with code TURKEY.
North Menswear
25% off all $500+ orders with code BLACKTOBLUE.
Rogue Territory
30% OFF Select Styles with code RGTBLKFRI2018.
STAG Provisions
Daily apparel deals all weekend. Friday’s is 20% off all outerwear with code FRIDAY20.
Some great Schott and RRL jackets included. Also check out their unique Vintage section.
Self Edge
15% off sitewide with code BlackFriday2018.
This only ever happens once a year.
Standard & Strange
$50 gift card for every $250 in spend. Free international shipping. 20% off Red Wings (except 2966 and 9060) with code TURKEYWING.
Stock Mfg. Co.
30% off sitewide with code BlackFriday30.
Chicago-based, American-made workwear. Interestingly, they design uniforms and apparel for business--actual workwear.
Upstate Stock
25% off all Upstate Stock products and free domestic shipping for orders over $25 with code BLACKFRIDAY.
American-made accessories.
Wilson & Willy’s
20% off storewide with code holiday20.
Minneapolis-based shop with a menswear line.
Wright Hand Twill
20% off everything except sale items. Free US shipping.
Denim specialists in Portland, OR featuring Kiriko Made, Naked & Famous, and Stevenson Overall Co., among other brands.
Wood & Faulk
20% off and daily deals through the weekend with code BLK2018.
Waxed canvas bags, handmade leather accessories, and home goods.

I really like the Weather Wool Anorak, it’s by far the best wool I’ve used. It’s comfortable to wear and durable. WeatherWool is about extreme performance in severe conditions as well as extreme comfort in all conditions. #SurvivalGear #SkilledSurvivor https://t.co/P0Asr71NYm https://t.co/n3GMToTqMw
