Had a father/son duo in the shop this past weekend for a knife class. To say they knocked it out of the park would be to use an analogy to a sport I know nothing about. They did all the rough forging, flattening and smoothing, grinding the profile, and put in the rough bevels. Then they did the heat treat. I finished the bevels and sharpened up the blade just now. What a looker. Saturday’s at the Unplugged Woodshop. Today our Finishing Bootcamp where these four students learned about our most used finishes. Oils, wax and shellac. Traditional finishing techniques with polissoirs and beeswax to French polish. Today was also the last class of our semester! That’s it for another season.
