Everyone knows social media is not real life. And in the case of tumblr, I’m happy it isn’t . No one expects something from me. No standards I have to meet. Not feeling guilty about not being here all the time. Not being compared to anyone. I don’t have to explain myself or be alert all the time. It’s just us, little weirdo’s together.

(the context to this post is that I reblogged a conversation between two people, and this was my addition - as the OPs response was “fuck you” in capital letters followed by deleting their post altogether, I’d rather not keep a copy of their convo on my wall either, if it upset them that much. But I’m entirely standing by my own points, so here goes a repost, slightly edited for clarity in parts:)

It makes me laugh HYSTERICALLY whenever someone says that whatever the “west” is doing or saying will be perceived by Russia as “escalatory”.

This is not how Putin’s Russia works. It does not matter what any country or alliance, be it NATO or the EU, does or says. Putin will make his own decisions about what will be considered escalatory or not. The only way to deal with Russia is to stop thinking at all about “what Russia might think about this”, and just go on with your life, planning it the way you can, at best, avoiding any ties with Russia. Whenever Russia feels “threatened to respond”, it will. 

It’s quite a bit like living with an abusive family member. Russia will feel provoked, whenever they want and decide to. 

I also annoys me to no end, when the talk about achieving peace becomes a debate between what Russia might “need” to be given, and what might be good for the West, and doesn’t stop to consider what Ukraine might want as a solution. This is the Ukrainians’ fight and we owe it to them to not strip them of agency like that.

Ukraine has said repeatedly, again and again - if you are not putting NATO boots on the ground, then GIVE US THE WEAPONS we ask for, as we know we will have to fight until the very last Russian soldier is gone from Ukrainian land (on their own, via death or by POW exchange, makes no difference).

Because on ANY land left under Russia’s rule, the robbing, destroying, raping and killing will continue. To this, Ukraine, as well as my own homeland and many other Eastern European countries, bordering with this insane empire, can testify. So this war needs to be fought to the Ukrainian victory, or to any point that the Ukrainians define.

The US has been giving its support for exactly that. The US has actually - after a couple of blunders early on - really been an excellent partner to Ukraine and is today recognised as such across of Eastern Europe (same for the UK, by the way, as much as I might dislike the Tory rule in any other way). Sanctions need to be turned on tighter and tighter, because, though slow, this is a helpful tool to make sure Russia isn’t able to amp up their military industry. Not just Ukraine, but other European countries, will be better and safer for it.

The sooner this war is won by Ukraine the sooner we can start building up Ukraine and help restart their agriculture as well as industry - which will benefit a whole lot of countries down to the ones in Africa and Middle East who are dependant on Ukrainian wheat, to bring just one example.

So, might I suggest a simple roadmap for any country, for this crisis:

1. Listen to Ukraine and hear out what they want at a particular moment 2. Help them to achieve that plan to the extent that is possible/achievable for your country
