Speaking of beasts, I am still thinking about my Klaine Back-To-School fic. It's getting... somewhere. The fact that people liked A Sandy Situation, my Madison and More fic, helps, though. Because I was also struggling with the big romantic ending for that one and I felt kinda bad about it, but hey, people like it so maybe I am better than I give myself credit for.

I am also still trying out how to podfic. I claimed another fic for the Caught on Tape Fest that's around 500 words and I recorded it in one go. Then I listened back to it and re-recorded specific parts that I wanted to redo.

This was before I saw the tip in the Podfic thread on Discord about how you can just say a line several times in a recording and then cut out the bloopers in the editing process. That sounds easier, cause I have zero (0) experience editing audio. This is gonna be fun. This thread is a godsend. I now know how to pronounce Swithin!

(Also, while looking for a way to upload these files to my computer, I came across my audio for the Dalton Audiobook. I clicked on one, just for fun, and it started with me saying "Take 4 of Marcus simping over Michelle Wright" and... yeah.) (Me too, Marcus, if I weren't aroace.) (I didn't edit for that project, so that's why I still have no experience.)

Anyway, have different variants of me saying the word "Cute", because I am not sure which one I like the most:

This is about a sphynx cat, by the way, who are indeed cute! Some might disagree but I don't!!

I do really like recording, although I have to, like, teach myself to not cringe at myself when I listen back to it, but I am sure more people feel this. This one is kind of interesting, cause it features two characters that aren't as popular, so I never really had a voice for them in my head. I do have some attempt at a voice for Simon, Baz, Penny, Agga, Shep, Niamh, Niall and Dev, but hey! Anyway, that's where I am at. I need to stop myself from claiming another 500 words fic, though.

Long time no see! A big thank you to all the people who have tagged me in the past two weeks. I've been working on a fic for an anon fest, but I am almost done (I think).

Here's a bit of my snowbaz accidental baby acquisition fic that now has a title, Space Oddity:

“Penny’s coming back late,” he murmurs into the crook of my neck, his mouth so hot against my skin.

“Yeah?” I ask, trying to sound unphased by the fact that I think he’s suggesting we have sex at his place, which has never happened before.

He kisses a sensitive spot under my ear that makes me gasp and tighten my grip in his hair. He groans at the feeling, so I tug a little harder. I can smell the arousal on him, can almost taste it on my tongue—that intoxicating, buttery scent that never fails to go to my head with its delicious aftertaste. I’ve spent half of my life learning the subtle nuances of Simon’s scent. The fear and sorrow and happiness. The way it sweetens when he’s relaxed and leans into me before he drifts off to sleep. The sharp tanginess when he’s angry. But this. This is only for me.

“We could—before we leave…” he mumbles against my skin, and I inhale deeply, filling my nostrils with him.

“Yes…”

Beta extraordinaire @rbkzz reminded me it’s Wednesday in the Americas so I had time to post a WIPsday even though it’s Thursday afternoon.

“But then you were there and all-“ Snow wiggles his hand at me and makes an odd face.

I cock my eyebrow in question.

You’re like that cat if the cat was a smokeshow. And not a cat. Cause that’s weird.”

My cheeks burn - what is he saying?

“And I think I just like… it was easier to be a bit of a dick than to think about what it meant that you made me all weird and twisty.”

I really want to get back into writing Snowbaz and participating actively in the fandom. I don't exactly have more free time but I did graduate and I am technically on holiday until October, so let's try.

So I'm sharing snippets from 6 WIPs and maybe I'll be inspired to finish one of them. Help me out!!!!

1. Where Baz is a different blood sucking creature than usual. Prince and the frog but the prince is just a guy and the frog is trying to steal your blood.

The heat would be more than sufficient to make Simon reconsider all of his life choices. Give up on meat. Never touch plastic again. He'd do anything.

But no, clearly whatever sin he's committed—was it writing Jesus/Judas fanfiction when he was 15? It wasn't even explicit!—was enough to condemn him to this.

2. Holiday with the Grimms, where Simon and Baz share a bed in the same room as Malcolm and Daphne.

“Sorry I haven't delivered to my father an updated list of all the cocks I've sucked.” He wasn't smiling, but I could hear the smirk in his voice. The fake smugness. I know he's sucked half a cock (half sucked one cock?) and it was quite a disaster. “He doesn't know how deeply my virtue has already been fucked.”

I still snort at the thought. (The answer is not deeply at all.)

3. TA Simon and Baz showing up to class in a slutty Blackbeard cosplay.

I don't need a complaint for assault (let alone sexual assault) to drive my doctorate even farther away from my grasp.

I just need Grimm-Pitch to leave my classroom and come back wearing proper trousers before my overworked brain cells decide to go on permanent strike. (I'm not sure they haven't deserted me already.)

4. Where Baz is a dryad and Simon is a woodcutter.

Simon didn't know many things, but he was pretty sure that pines weren't pretty men with long dark hair and pouty lips. Of course, Simon had never seen a man with dark green skin before, either, but he resembled a man more than a pine.

“You are not a pine. You're a man,” Simon voiced his scepticism, and he was rewarded with one more pine cone hitting his forehead. If nothing, the tree man had an impeccable aim.

5. Secret concept for this one.

Tucked in a corner as if he was trying to make himself seem smaller, yet he's got my attention like the masterpiece in a museum. Even the dim light of the pizzeria is enough to imagine the shine of his bronze curls under the summer sun. He's pale and freckled, broad and solid. Sturdy like the old table in my living room. I can perfectly see how he'd fit there, between a stack of Spinoza's complete works and the cabinet where my grandmother's Capodimonte porcelain sits unused. His back to the floor-to-ceiling window that opens on the terrace, surrounded by the bright halo of the hours before sunset. Bright like a Michelangelo in a room that's all Caravaggio.

6. This one I'm going to continue for sure when inspiration strikes, so it's not part of pick a WIP Sunday. It's maybe guess the WIP Sunday in this case.

“Sounds like you could use a break,” his deep voice says from a corner of the hall, as if he's read my mind. I see a pair of long legs first—legs for miles—crossing the room towards me, wrapped in a pair of trousers so tight I can't help but wonder how he'll take them off. (Not that I'm thinking of Baz without trousers.) (I mean, I've seen him without trousers. He wears chitons most of the time.) (He also wears really short shorts.) (I just mean I'm not thinking about taking his trousers off.) (Just. I mean.)

I've been working on Ch 6 of Hiding Out in the Open for a not insignificant chunk of time, but I've either been too busy doing that or just feeling like it's too rough to share. Until today. (So convenient that I feel like it’s ready to share since I’m posting it tomorrow for my dearest @artsyunderstudy's birthday ❤️😂.)

Snow’s kissing my neck now, working his way along my throat in a way that turns my insides to jelly. So naturally, it’s the perfect time for Father’s voice to join the cursed chorus of doubts in my head. Even though he seemed resigned when I called last week to break the news that actually I would be abandoning the hallowed halls of Oxford for the unwashed masses of the LSE in the autumn—thank you for that Daphne—he still managed to forward one brand new objection I can’t seem to completely set aside. “Your aunt tells me you’ve been…seeing someone” —(faithless hag)—“and while I certainly hope you have better judgement than to do this because of a”—he’d pointedly cleared his throat at this point—“romantic entanglement, it remains my duty as your father to warn you. You cannot pin your hopes and dreams on the fickle affections of a twenty-year-old boy”—(yes, ambiguously referring to a twenty-year-old boy who could also be me is the closest my father has ever come to acknowledging my sexuality)—“because while it may feel like it’s forever right now, believe me when I tell you that young love very rarely lasts. Basil—please don’t throw it all away over some silly summer fling that’ll be over before Samhain.”

Hi everyone! I’m climbing out of my cave and scheduling this in advance to spread the good word about vampire angst. Because, as anyone who’s read my blog title knows, I am a fiend for vampire angst, and there is some cracking vampire angst in this fandom.

I am asking you all, please, hop on board and join me in reading along with this WIP. Monbons has a wonderful writing style; well-paced and impactful. She’s made some inspired choices in this AU. Angsty, clever, and so, so engrossing. Tasty angst so far, and we still have many chapters to go!

Lamb is a character who really fascinates me. This ficlet imagines a conversation Baz and Lamb would have if Lamb discovered Baz was a mage under less bloody circumstance. This short and sweet fic is something of a hidden gem, and I’ll cry forever that this is a 600 word fic, not a 60k one.

Crowding out the Bad (with Good) by twigs_in_my_hair

Another WIP, and if you are a fan of lore, this is one for you. This AU involves Simon trying to improve his diet with the help of nutritionist (and reluctant vampire) Baz. Twigs devotes so much to exploring Baz’s feelings about his vampirism, and how it has left marks on his life, behaviour, etc. And, of course, there's a lovely bit of slow burn Snowbaz along the way!

Bogwitch constantly surprises and impresses me with her range. This short (400 words), sweet and heartbreaking ficlet sees Baz receiving a Visiting during the events of Carry On. I love it so much.

Proof of Life by @roomwithanopenfire

What if Natasha Pitch survived the vampire attack, but Baz still got Turned? What would that mean for Baz and the World of Mages? In this WIP, it means a Baz who is even more angsty about being a vampire than he already is in canon—and with good reason. Added bonus is the consideration for the wider canon divergence. What would Watford be like if Natasha is still headmistress but Davy is the Mage? Very intriguing fic so far, especially now we’ve landed in eighth year!

The least Baz-focused on the bunch, this fic is about the Mage taking Old Family children prisoner for leverage and the aftermath. It sees Baz hit his lowest point (gave me the big good sads), and then follows how he and Simon recover from all they’ve been through. Love it.

Hey y'all! In August I started two jobs and I've been so busy I haven't been bored enough to daydream about fic let alone write it. One of the jobs is a long term substitute position. I do not have a teaching degree. I do not know what I am doing. It is very stressful. These kids are just staring at me every morning and I have to be the one to like...have things for them to do. And so I just "yes and" riff about some worksheets best I can and hope they pass their state tests come April. Like, I'm really just some guy off the street they hired last minute. It's so bad.

Simon POV, past (age 15):

Balanced footsteps approach, clicking in even purposeful tones that threaten Baz, Baz, Baz. His shadow appears first. Long and lean. Dark and brooding. Mocking me as it flickers against the walls because even the mere imitation of Baz swarms with condescension. A few steps above me, always looking down.

A big thank you to all the people who have tagged me in the past few weeks, and to @monbons and @imagineacoolusername who tagged me today. I've finally managed to finish my fic for the @drarry-mini-bang, and because I've been struggling an awful lot, I've been working on the accidental baby snowbaz fic as a treat.

Here's a snippet:

“Stay,” he whispered to me that night, his hand tracing invisible patterns on my chest, his ear pressed to my ribcage. I wondered if he was listening to the sound of my heart. If he could hear it accelerating.

“Okay,” I replied, because I had no intention of getting on the Tube and going home right now anyway.

“I mean—not just now,” Baz said, his voice soft and tentative. “I meant you could stay with me. I could clear half of the wardrobe. A few drawers…”

I’d known him for half of my life (the better half). We’d been doing this, whatever it was, for months. I was going to fuck up spectacularly by being a terrible boyfriend, but I really wanted it anyway. No one had ever offered me a home. Only Penny had agreed to come and live with me, but it was more to escape from her family, I think.

But Baz…

He sounded like he actually wanted me, imperfect and disastrous and messy as I am.

Starting a week from tomorrow I'll be traveling and computerless for almost a month, and I am bound and determined to get the next chapter of Basil Pitch's Diary up before then. (I know some of you post from your phones but I have no idea how you do it, especially if you have HTML. I am too old and clumsy for that shit.)

8:57 a.m. Greek. One excellent side effect of coming out to Snow is that he now sits as far from me as possible in lessons. Cannot believe how distracted I’d once been, having him watch my every move, close enough to smell. Now he takes whichever seat is farthest from me. (It’s not coincidence. I’ve tested it.) Sure enough, when Snow arrived and saw me at the back of the classroom, he scowled sat front and center. I had barely time to scowl back before Niall and Dev staggered in looking disgustingly pleased with themselves. They’d missed breakfast, and now I saw why. Dev’s neck bore at least four mismatched love bites, and someone had fucked the blue out of Niall’s eyes.

Oh hi! Coming to you from a beautiful lake beach where my children are pretending to be pirates. I have continued muraling (see below) and writing (see further below!)

Look at all those piles of gold!!! And skull! And candles! It's coming together. It will require at least two coats. It's going to take a while!

Simon and Baz are in the Hague in this bit of Simon's two Mums:

It turns out the tulip fields only bloom in the spring, but looking out over the sand dunes with their little hopeful tufts of grass is pretty satisfying, too. The waves are vicious here, whipped into a frenzy by the wind, and this might be better than looking out over a placid field of colourful flowers. It matches what's going on in my chest, anyway. Baz climbs up the dunes, wiping his hands on a monogrammed handkerchief, and his smile is a little sad. He sits down on the slope of a dune, and looks out at the ocean. I sit down next to him.

"We did fuck about it once, but that very much sealed the 'just friends' deal." Beatrice laughs with him, "Story of my life." Henry hums in an indiscriminate way that makes Alex wonder if Henry has been saving himself for his soulmate, or if instead he's the kind of person no one ever feels platonically about.

Sketch Sunday!!!

It’s been a long time since the last sketch Sunday I shared. I haven’t been very active lately but oh lord I miss it (you). Long story short I’m in my bookworm era, and free time is short in my life so that left so little space for other hobbies. These sketches are all I have after a month, very different vibes and art styles but both in the halfway. The first one from my favorite and they were coworkers fic, second from my wishful thinking.
