Again, this is the anticipated broadcast network TV (ABC, CBS, NBC, FOX, etc.) fall season timeline, given the possible SAG-AFTRA + WGA strike on July 1st.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Late night shows will return first.
If writing resumes in September, shooting might begin early/mid October. Episodes will most likely air starting in Jan 2024.
Networks can't afford a strike until December. The longer [the] strike goes, the more it will benefit deep-pocketed streamers who are trying to put the networks out of business. If networks don't cut a deal on mini rooms, and streaming $, they'll lose a season, and streamers will replace them.

Nathan Fillion supporting writers striking. This man has zero writing credits to his name, he just believes in supporting his co-workers and understands the symbiotic relationship between writer and actor. That's my captain.

Kids just fucken try piracy your not supporting your favourite shows by using Netflix anyway especially not during the wga strike just pirate.
Hypothetical ways to do so
Type in your show and follow it with "free online, stream free"
Click through the links to you find one that has a bunch of other shows in it and if you can watch any of those you can likely watch yours.
Again this is for science and for legal purposes heavily sarcastic.

The common narrative is already/continues to be that #TheMarvels  poor box office is the result of the MCU having “lost the general audience.”
There may be a grain of truth to that, but the real story here should remain just how bad for business the WGA and especially SAG-AFTRA strikes actually were. And the reason you can tell that is because of the weird, sudden shift the film’s marketing took, losing most of the initial trailers’ fun tone and pitch Dar-Benn as a successor to Thanos, who I don’t think even gets mentioned in the movie.
Tumblr media
Pitching projects on Endgame Hype/Infinity Saga nostalgia has been common for Phase 4/5, but the sheer degree to which The Marvels  pivoted the tone and approach of its marketing amidst the strikes speaks to true, genuine desperation at the loss of cast interviews/commercials.
Notice how you haven’t seen any cute commercials where Kamala Khan, Carol Danvers and Monica Rambeau show up to sell you a car, or soda, or an airline or whatever?
For the audience who doesn’t look up trailers on YouTube and sees like 4-5 films in theaters a year, you NEED those.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I didn’t love The Marvels, and I’ve seen people gleefully celebrate “the death of the MCU” in the wake of a poor opening weekend, but let’s remember that the most likely circumstances behind its seeming financial failure have more to do with actors successfully leveraging their power and studios finally paying for their mistreatment, before it’s about anything else.

Japanese live-action adaptations of anime are bad on purpose. That's Japan's entire brand. Look no further than their game shows and tokusatsu for that. At least they know and respect their source material.
Hollywood live-action adaptations of anime are bad because they don't care. Studio execs look at anime and go "Hmm, how can we exploit this popular franchise that we know nothing about and push it in front of an audience we don't respect for money?" And then they do it. Seriously, fuck Hollywood.
You want good content? Support the striking actors and writers. Support independent creators. Support literally anyone not tied to the AMPTP.

Strike Support Declining - Here's how you can continue to support the writers
Since the WGA strike started on May 2, the public has shown immense support for the writers—sending food, snacks, drinks, and encouragement from across the world all the way to Los Angeles, New York, and other picketing locations.
But loud and vocal strike support—in the news and in public spaces—is notably declining the longer the strike goes on. So we're bringing you a few ways to show writers, studios, and fellow fans: we're still here, and we still stand with the WGA.
1. Post on Twitter (and other social media sites)
You might think social media noise won't be noticed by the studios, but it CAN encourage individual WGA members—and slowly but surely put pressure on the studios to make a fair deal.
If you follow WGA members such as Adam Conover (Adam Ruins Everything), John Rogers (Leverage, Librarians), Gennifer Hutchison (Breaking Bad, Better Call Saul), Javier Grillo-Marxuach (Lost, The Witcher) [and many many more you can find through their following lists], tell them you support them! Hashtag #IStandWithTheWGA #DoTheWriteThing and tell them that you and your fandom are prepared to support them as long as the strike lasts; that they deserve to have their demands met and you're with them all the way. Boost morale however and whenever you can!
Likewise, actively push back against misinformation/disinformation. See a TikTok claiming that all Hollywood writers are filthy rich and we shouldn't vocally support them? Correct it with well-sourced citations from the WGA, published news articles, and stories from those affected (like the time a writer on FX's The Bear attended the an awards show with his bank account balance in the negative, only to then win an award for Best Comedy Series—proving that good writers on award-winning shows still cannot make a living!)
Remember you can always link to Adam Conover's excellent explanation of WGA demands versus studio refusals, tweeted here.
2. Donate or boost fundraisers
You might be surprised to learn that the picketing locations are not always parties! Sometimes themed pickets are fun, and fandoms and celebrities occasionally are able to fundraise for a food truck or ice cream truck at picketing locations. However, that is the EXCEPTION and not the norm. Writers are asking for food & drinks at many locations.
There are many funds to donate to, and it can be overwhelming to pick one! But one that could use your support RIGHT NOW is the CBS Radford picket line:
Tumblr media
-If you're in LA, you can bring food and snacks directly to that picket line (or get food deliveries sent there, with instructions to be given to the strike captain on duty.) Strike locations are available on the WGA West website and are updated there.
-Or there's a pizza fund for the strike locations (unfortunately Venmo is a US-only donation option)
Tumblr media
-If you're not in LA, donate to the Entertainment Community Fund to support TV and film workers affected by the strike.
-More tips on donating to the strike in this great article!
-Lots of fandoms are organizing donations on their own, for instance the Our Flag Means Death fundraiser on Paypal (updated 30 July 2023 with new link) (available internationally). Check to see if your fandom has started a fundraiser... or start one yourself to show your support! We're happy to give tips on organizing your fandom!
As always, please boost this post and any and all well-sourced information that comes from the WGA or its members. We're happy to fact-check anything you send our way too.

Do not boycott the streamers yet!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Hh
Tumblr media
[Image ID: A tweet thread by WGA Strike Captain Kylie Sparks (@/KylieSparks) that says in full:
A reminder SAG has not called for a consumer boycott. Please keep watching tv and films-if anything, this helps PROVE the studios need us-AI doesn’t have the soul or emotion real people do.
Also this helps proves marginalized stories and actors are sorely needed in our industry.
I repeat, this erodes our bargaining power and this is something WE HAVE NOT ASKED FOR. WE HAVE NOT DEMANDED A CONSUMER BOYCOTT. Please enjoy your tv and movies! Get that to watch pile watched!
Okay I am closing this because folks are not listening.
SAG has not asked for a consumer boycott. You’ll know if this changes. /End ID]
I admit I messed up earlier because I was too trusting of people that I thought would have the right knowledge and think correctly about this. I was wrong. They weren't thinking of the consequences.
Please boost this and do NOT cancel you subscriptions!
I know it's gross to keep paying these fuckers, but we need to wait for SAG and WGA leadership's say so.

SAG-AFTRA STRIKE UPDATE AS OF OCTOBER 12, 2023
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
[Image Description] On a red background. A white figure with its right arm upraised. Next to it. In white letters:
(1/6) To Our Fellow SAG-AFTRA Members:
It is with profound disappointment that we report the industry CEOs have walked away from the bargaining table after refusing to counter our latest offer. We have negotiated with them in good faith, despite the fact that last week they presented an offer that was, shockingly, worth less than they proposed before the strike began.
(2/6) These companies refuse to protect performers from being replaced by AI, they refuse to increase your wages to keep up with inflation, and they refuse to share a tiny portion of the immense revenue YOUR work generates for them. We have made big, meaningful counters on our end, including completely transforming our revenue share proposal, which would cost the companies less than 574 per subscriber each year. They have rejected our proposals and refused to counter.
(3/6) Instead they use bully tactics. Just tonight, they intentionally misrepresented to the press the cost of the above proposal - overstating it by 60%. They have done the same with A.I., claiming to protect performer consent, but continuing to demand "consent" on the first day of employment for use of a performer's digital replica for an entire cinematic universe (or any franchise project).
(4/6) The companies are using the same failed strategy they tried to inflict on the WGA - putting out misleading information in an attempt to fool our members into abandoning our solidarity and putting pressure on our negotiators. But, just like the writers, our members are smarter than that and will not be fooled.
(5/6) We feel the pain these companies have inflicted on our members, our strike captains, IATSE, Teamsters and Basic Crafts union members, and everyone in this industry. We have sacrificed too much to capitulate to their stonewalling and greed. We stand united and ready to negotiate today, tomorrow, and every day.
(6/6) Our resolve is unwavering. Join us on picket lines and at solidarity events around the country and let your voices be heard.
One day longer.
One day stronger.
As long as it takes.
Your TV/Theatrical Negotiating Committee
