yourusername welcome back to my post game penalty box update show, céline dion fans and non-céline dion fans! tonight was the ducks home opener and it was a doozy!

first i want to address that my lil quackies have now won their home opener 8 years in a row and are now 20-9-1 in their 30 year history for home openers! and if you’re like me and ✨love✨ stats, then you’ll be thrilled to learn that mr. frank “the tank” vatrano is the FIRST DUCK EVER TO SCORE A HAT TRICK IN THE HOME OPENER! shoutout to mason, who passed frankie the puck so that he could score the empty netter for the hatty, and made me cry at how sweet he was! (yes, they got good job forehead kisses because i love them soooo much!)

now, on to the fun stuff that you’re all here for! my future husband and baby daddy got his first penalty tonight, and oooo lordy, he looked fine! seriously, like, you think you all were freaking out about how hot he was in the box? imagine how i feel! he’s coming home to me!

his penalty was for “holding the stick” against aho (queue the boos) he did not agree with the penalty and made sure to scoff at the refs so that they knew they made a ridiculous call (i legally have to be on his side)

but get this— the penalty was called 11 seconds into z’s shift, it was the 6th official power play for the canes! we love! (we don’t love that it resulted in a c*nes goal though)

what was my favorite part of the game, you ask? it was the scrum, of course! my mans tried his best in holding back pesce, but he really just clung onto him as he got dragged around the scrum because he… is pocket sized compared to pesce. the 9th photo is of z clinging onto him from behind. i imagine pesce’s inner monologue was like “if the child will not move off me, then i shall move with the child. i am undeterred by the diminutive boy.”

The last we talked about Final Fantasy XVI, you'd just seen someone get punched by a certain someone. Are you any further now? Like, have you seen the ending of the game? And if you have... I guess the developers of Final Fantasy XVI have said that this game has so much lore, they could make a sequel with it, which is most definitely true. LOL. Who knows if they'll ever actually do that (if so, it'll be very far off), but if they do, what do you think it'll tell? What would you want it to do?

I have indeed seen the end of it by now! To be honest, I kind of have mixed feelings on the plot of the game as a whole. Love the characters, Clive especially is now one of my favorite Final Fantasy protagonists, but I can't help but feel that the game is a little disjointed in spots. They advertised it as the story of Clive's life spanning three eras, but those three eras don't have equal weight and end up coming across as Prologue #1, Prologue #2, and The Actual Game if that makes sense given that you've actually played the game and I've only seen other people play it. And, honestly, when I think back on it, I kind of liked what Prologue #2 with Clive in his late 20s was putting forward the best out of all three sections

I liked the darker and more personal angle that they were putting down, with a story about a man whose latent powers went berserk and he ended up hurting someone close to him, desperate for revenge without realizing that the one he wants revenge against is himself. But then it feels like they resolve that angle very fast and everything after that is a very classic "god is evil kill god" Final Fantasy plot. It's a well-done version of that plot to be sure, and I can really respect how well they tried to capture the feeling of old-school Final Fantasy games, but given how much of the marketing was about this game being darker and more mature, to me it felt like the themes got almost less mature as it went on, going from personal grief, this desperation to rebuild, the price of revenge, etc. to a more generic "free will good" story

That said, the developers are correct that there's so much lore, and to me that's the best part of the game. I've always found stories that heavily feature elemental-themed areas a lot of fun, like Avatar: The Last Airbender or One Last God: Kubera, so this game giving each summon a specific element and, for the most part, keeping it one summon/element per faction was really interesting to see brought to light. I think the fact that they touched on different factions viewing their Dominants differently was a good start, I just wanted to see a bit more of it on-screen because again, like I said, they started doing that at the beginning, but then it kind of got completely overwhelmed by the "Ultima wants Clive to have all of the Dominant powers" stuff and then never bothered to really look back at how the people felt about losing their nation's Dominants (also they way that they handled Clive taking the powers was kinda weird? Like, Dion carries on just fine and can still transform but Jill gets benched? What?)

Ahhhhhh I just... I almost wish that Ultima had just been an interesting background element and that the game as a whole had focused more on the infighting between the nations and Dominants and Bearers, rather than the other way around. I just found Ultima so generic and uninteresting, and that the game focused too much on making Clive this Super Awesome Chosen One because of it, when I found he was at his best when he was just a kind, awkward man struggling with this unprecedented power he was stuck with and the trauma it brought him

Because to be honest, at the start of the game I wondered if, maybe, what was happening was that they were gonna pull some classic Final Fantasy Dark World stuff and have it be that every Eikon had a dark counterpart. So Ifrit would be the Dark Eikon of Fire to Phoenix's Light Eikon of Fire and they could have used other classic FF summons as the Dark Eikons, like Garuda vs. Sylph. And the Light Eikons could bless people with their power like how Clive had the blessing of the Phoenix, while the Dark Eikons could steal powers. But, no, it's just Ifrit being Super Special and everything. Also... why... was Joshua the only one who could seemingly bless others with his power? Dion couldn't give Terrence a Blessing of Bahamut or anything and give him some light powers? Jill had to let Clive absorb her Shiva powers rather than blessing him with them becauuuuuuse...? And, man, it could've been so interesting if they had a sideplot on Anabella trying to force all of the Dominants to bless Olivier to match Clive or something. Or maybe not even a sideplot, that sounds like I would've liked it way more than the Ultima stuff because of how much more personal it has the potential to be and the game could've been a race to take the power of each Dominant before Olivier could get their blessings. Olivier was so underutilized

As for the lore, I think they do a really good job fleshing out Bearers, so really if they had more to look into, it would be the unanswered questions. Like, we know that Valisthea is only one continent on this world (Cid isn't originally from there, and IIRC neither was Barnabas's family), so what are the others like? Where is Leviathan? Are the theories that the Medicine Girl was Leviathan's Dominant, just not yet awakened, true? (Also, if Ultima needed Clive to have all of the other Eikon's powers, why were we even allowed to skip Leviathan? Shouldn't we have had to track them down? Why did they end up lost?) If the truth is that Ultima's people descended from another world and created humanity, then where did the idea of the Goddess Greagor come from? And what about the legend surrounding the star, Metia? Is Metia magical or is it just a cute legend thing?

Hmmm. If they ever did more with FFXVI, it would have to be a prequel, wouldn't it? Because I think where it left off was exactly where it should have, with some hope for the future and the world moving on, bittersweet with all of the losses that it took to get there but worth it all the same. (I know that there's a lot of theories about who "Joshua Rosfield" is in the end, and I actually prefer that it's ambiguous. Whether you think Clive succeeded in bringing Joshua back at the cost of his own life, or that Clive took Joshua's name which is the one that I think has the most in-game hints to it, or even if you want to think of a third option like one I've seen where Clive survived, but the "Joshua Rosfield" in question is actually his and Jill's son named in Joshua's honor, sacrifices were made and hope remains)

So I think the route with the most potential might end up being a Cid-centric prequel about what life on other continents is like. And I would never complain about more Cid, especially in regards to how he was chosen by Ramuh and what about how things are on other continents is that made him so averse to how Valisthea does things. I think that Cid is really something special due to his status as an outsider looking in on Storm and Ash and how his different perspective compared to everyone there is such a catalyst for what happens in the plot and it's a real shame that most of what we get of Cid is posthumous. So if FFXVI was to get its own sub-series, that's where I'd take it

Morris leaned back with a wince.

What an awful night. What an awful, horrible, no-good night. The ballroom was still half-frozen, melting ice spikes covering more than half the space. Slowly growing puddles were beginning to soak into the carpet. Tables and chairs had been overturned, slashed, and smashed—and then there was the detritus from the plates and silverware and glasses that had been used as makeshift ammunition. Broken glass and chunks of ice glittered across the floor.

At least Morris had been able to find his chair, and not the random chair he’d had to grab in the heat of the moment. It didn’t magically fix everything, but he’d switched it to be self-propelled instead of levball-powered, which helped his headache. Marginally.

The sirens weren’t helping, though. The sound had been cut, at some point, but between the still-functioning lights of the ballroom and the red and blue flashing outside, Morris’ headache was not getting better. Add in the EMTs frantically trying to chip through Lizzie’s ice cocoon, all of the other first responders tending to the partygoers, and every other little bit of movement and noise—

Morris liked noise. He hated silence, hated the way it spread out and suffocated a space. The world was meant to be alive and that meant being loud—

Morris rubbed at his temples. Yeah, sure, this was better than the eerie silence of just before—

Gisu going down in a blur of motion, the automaton reclaiming its face and snapping it back on.

Those glowing red eyes staring Morris down like an omen—

But it was not helping his headache. At all. And his headache was making his stomach twist and the room spin—

What a mess.

And tonight had started out so well, too. Rolling around the ballroom, making connections, the mission going off without a hitch—

The sound of shattering glass, a scream cutting across the ballroom—

Morris grimaced. What an awful night. What an awful, horrible, no-good night. He just wanted it to be over, already, so he could go home to Licorice Whip and Caramel Popcorn and Lolly Pop. Yeah. He’d go home, feed his ferrets, and maybe sleep off all of this awful bullshit that had decided to come crashing in through the skylight. It’d be so nice—much nicer than all of this.

Amidst the general bustle, an EMT made their way over to him. Morris turned to her, ignoring the way the room was spinning.

“Can you tell me your name?” They asked.

“Morris Martinez.” Easy. Like Morris could ever forget his own name.

“Age?”

“...twenty one.” Okay, that one had been a little harder. But it didn’t take that long for Morris to remember that oh, yeah, he’d stopped being twenty in the spring. Just a few moments.

“Favorite color?” They raised a flashlight to Morris’ eyes. 

“Blue.” It’d been his favorite for years—it was the color of the sky, after all.

(And the color of the Dion’s eyes, but that was less important. And not something Morris wanted to think about right now.

He didn’t want to think about anything besides his ferrets, really.)

“Can you hear any ringing in your ears?”

Morris concentrated. “Yeah.” He admitted. “It’s really faint, though.” But it was still there, and probably had been since he woke up next to a wall of ice—he just hadn’t noticed it in the chaos, the faint ringing fading into background noise for him.

“You’re likely concussed.” The EMT said, lowering her flashlight. “But they’ll have to do an MRI to know for sure—you’re holding together well.”

“I kind of figured.” Morris said. Getting hit in the head with the hilt of a sword would do that. At least Gisu was able to take up keeping in contact with Hollis after the automaton left—Morris’ headache was only getting worse as the night progressed.

“Hollis says she’ll meet us at the hospital.” Gisu’s voice floated over to him, and Morris turned to face her. “The one they’re taking Lizzie to.”

Right. Morris glanced back at the ice cocoon—and there she was, being pulled out and loaded onto a stretcher. “She better not die.” He muttered. She probably wouldn’t—Lizzie was tough like that.

“Yeah.” Gisu said. Morris wondered if she was exhausted as he felt, if that was why she was barely talking. There was certainly something, in her eyes, a sort of deep resignation that Morris had long since grown to recognize. She was tired.

Gisu’s hand slipped into his. Easily, like it was always meant to be there, yet loosely, like she might pull away at any moment. It was a familiar gesture in every way, a gesture born of years of knowing each other.

It was a small comfort. But it was still a comfort.

The waiting room was quiet.

Oh, sure, other people were present, many of them talking in low murmurs that Morris couldn’t really discern, and there was music playing on some small tinny speaker somewhere— 

But compared to the ballroom? Compared to the sirens?

Morris could actually think.

Well, sort of. He was still concussed—he’d gotten the scan results ten minutes ago. But at least the room wasn’t swimming around him. At least there was no internal bleeding. Just a mild concussion to go with the exhaustion.

Now he was just waiting for news on Lizzie’s condition—whatever it might be. There’d been… a lot of blood.

Morris really hoped that she came out okay. The hours had stretched on, the clock in the waiting room reading 11:38. The party had started at 7:00, and when Morris had first looked at the clock in this room it had read 9:52. Hollis had arrived a little over half an hour ago, though she’d been too preoccupied with coordinating with Truman over what details to give to the press to say hello. The vultures had already been at the gala, so it didn’t take long for even more of them to show up looking for a good story. Between that and his MRI, Morris hadn’t had the chance to talk to her yet.

What an awful night. What an awful, horrible, no-good night. Morris needed to get out of this suit ASAP. He needed to see his ferrets. He needed to lie down in his bed and not wake up for the next seven years.

Morris needed a lot of things, if he was being honest.

Gisu’s footsteps padded across the waiting room carpet—so much like the ballroom carpet—and Morris looked up at her approach.

“I just talked to Hollis about Lizzie.” Gisu informed him. “They’re going to transfer her to Clay Ridge once she’s stabilized.” Her voice softened, her eyes glimmering with relief. “She’s going to live.”

Morris felt some of the tension dissipate from his shoulders. “That’s good.” He murmured. If Lizzie died…

Don’t think about that.

“So where are you and I going?” Morris asked. He really hoped the answer would be home. Home, with Lolly and Licorice and Caramel chasing their favorite toys around the room. Home, with his comfy bed. Home, with his radio and his favorite songs.

“You and Agent Nerumen will be coming back to the Motherlobe,” Hollis began from behind Gisu. Morris tensed at the sudden appearance, then immediately relaxed. “Since neither of you are critically injured, the medical wing there will be adequate.” Hollis’ voice remained even, cool and calm even with the worry lining her face. What Morris wouldn’t give to have that kind of suaveness under pressure.

“I’m guessing you’ll be wanting a full mission report?” Morris asked, even as the idea filled him with dread.

Hollis’ lips quirked. “You’ll get time to rest first, Agent Martinez.” She assured. At once, her demeanor hardened, the steady mentor morphing into the strict Second Head. “Your transport is waiting outside.” She informed them. “Debriefing will happen at 10:00 AM tomorrow.”

Morris nodded, then started to wheel his way towards the door, Gisu walking alongside him. Her mental presence was fuzzy through the haze of the concussion, but it was there, familiar buzzing at the back of Morris’ head. Her hand nudged his arm, and it took Morris a second to realize she was offering it to hold.

Morris took it. Her hand fit in his like it was meant to, yet loosely, like she might pull away at any time. Every scar and callous was familiar, as familiar as the way her pace matched his, as familiar as the ache in Morris’ chest when he thought too hard about why.

It was familiar, and that was a comfort. Morris didn’t need to think any deeper into it.

So he didn’t.

The ride back was quiet, the only noise the hum of the engine and the tap-tap-tap of Gisu’s finger on the door. Between Morris’ concussion and Gisu’s sprained wrist, Hollis had decided to have another agent handle the drive—Morris wasn’t sure if he didn’t know their name, or if it was just the concussion making them seem unfamiliar. Lizzie had been their ride to the gala, anyway, and she wasn’t in a state to drive at all—though Morris really didn’t want to think about that. He instead took advantage of not being the one driving and sent a text to Clara—how his phone was still intact after everything, he didn’t know, but Morris wasn’t going to question it when he had his ferrets to think about. Clara was his designated ferretsitter, though, so at least they’d be in good hands.

By the time he and Gisu had disembarked and been shuffled over to the Motherlobe’s Medical Wing—by the time they were finally left to their own devices in one of the overnight rooms, Norma bringing over a change of clothes for the both of them before leaving for Clay Ridge—Morris had had enough.

He hated silence. And something about Gisu’s silence just wasn’t sitting right with him.

“Okay, what’s eating you?” Morris broke the silence. “You’ve been acting weird since that thing punched you in the gut.” He knew Gisu, knew her well enough to know that something was up—and not just the awful night. No, this was something else—something almost contemplative, as though Gisu had been handed a new puzzle instead of thrown into an unexpected fight for her life.

Gisu stared at him. “Weird how?” She countered, kicking her legs. There might have been something playful to her remark, some teasing demand for Morris to explain himself just because she wanted him to—but they were both too tired for that. It was just a force of habit, at this point.

“Gisu, we have known each other for too long for me not to notice.” Morris grumbled. “Something’s up, and I can tell because if there wasn’t you wouldn’t have asked Pooter to sneak your board in.” Raz hadn’t gotten here yet, but he was on his way—Morris had watched Gisu make the request as they got out of the car. He had been waiting there with Norma—Adam and Sam were on their own mission—and Gisu hadn’t exactly been subtle.

There was only one reason Gisu would ask for her board when she was going to be in a space too small to skate—she needed to think, which meant that she had come across a puzzle.

“Fine, fine, you got me.” Gisu shrugged. “I just…” She breathed in, “It’s about the automaton. Cyborg. Whatever. When I took his mask off…” Gisu trailed off. Her eyebrows knit together as she contemplated her words.

“Wait, his?” Morris already knew he wouldn’t like where this was going.

“Yeah,” Gisu said, “His. When I took his mask off, I saw his face.” It took a moment, for the meaning of her words to register to Morris. Then—

“Wait, are you saying… it’s not a robot?” But it was at least partially mechanical, if the metal arm and altered voice was anything to go off of. No wonder Gisu was acting weird—this was a big revelation. They knew so little about the anti-psychic weapon, so every little bit counted.

Morris started. “If you saw his face, you could get an ID!” The realization took longer than he’d like to admit—Morris was going to blame the concussion.

“Yeah, that’s exactly the issue.” Gisu said. She squeezed the air in front of her, sparks of electricity crackling along her fingers. Morris waited for her to continue—

“It was Dion under the mask.”

.

Six words. Six words that hit Morris like an uppercut, the room spinning around him.

His concussion must be worse than he thought. “I’m sorry, I think I misheard you.” He managed, even as all the air in his lungs got caught in his throat.

“You heard me.” Gisu scowled, “It was Dion. I pried that mask off and I saw Dion.” Her next words were choked out, her voice starting to wet, “He’s alive.”

Morris couldn’t breathe. His chest was squeezed too tight, his lungs threatening to pop and his heart caught in a vice. No. No no no. This wasn’t real. He was not sitting here, listening to his on-and-off girlfriend of the past six years tell him all about how the thing that just tried to kill them hours prior was their missing ex-boyfriend.

“That’s an awful joke.” Morris said, once he found his voice again.

“It’s not a joke!” Gisu argued. “Dion’s alive and I saw his face!” Her hair was starting to fizz from the static in the air around her.

“And what makes you so sure?” Morris gripped the arms of his chair, his knuckles white. “How do you know you weren’t, I don’t know, projecting what you wanted to see?”

Gisu bristled. “You think I wanted to see Dion’s face on the thing that was trying to kill us?”

“I think you want Dion to be alive so badly that you’re ignoring the truth.” Morris shot back.

“What truth?!” Gisu leaned forwards, “I know what I saw!” The air around Morris was starting to feel greasy, now, like lightning could go off at any moment.

What a joke. What an awful joke.

This had to be a dream. Clearly, Morris had never woken up after being suckerpunched by the automaton, and everything that he remembered happening was just some alcohol-induced nightmare where the world was falling apart and threatening to crush him all in one. There was no way this was real, not when Morris had given up on ever seeing Dion again years ago—

“I know what I saw.” Gisu repeated. “You being bitter doesn’t change that.”

“Bitter?” Morris all but screeched. He threw his hands in the air, “Bitter? I’m sorry if I can’t hold onto delusion for six years!” His hands fell to his sides and he clenched them into fists. “Sorry that I don’t have the energy to keep chasing ghosts!”

Everything not bolted down slammed against the wall. Morris flinched—so did Gisu.

Morris’ head pounded. His vision swam.

His chest was heaving, his lungs struggling to draw in air like they’d been squeezed too tight. He forced his gaze off of Gisu and onto the plastic plant that had been thrown to the floor, to the shiny green leaves and fake blue petals.

(Blue, like the sky, like the stripes of the Aquatodome, like the color of Dion’s eyes—)

“Look.” Gisu said, “I know it sucks.” She pushed off of the bed and walked over, stepping over the fake plant. “How do you think I feel, seeing his face again?” Her expression softened, even as lighting continued to crackle over her knuckles. “But whatever happened, however Dion ended up like that—”

“Stop it.” Morris demanded, his voice coming out in a whisper. “Stop talking about Dion.” His voice cracked, his throat tightening no matter how much he tried to calm down—

“Morris,” Gisu growled. She reached out. Morris batted her hand away.

“It’s over.” Morris’ voice came out thicker than he wanted it to. “Dion’s dead.” Dion was gone and no amount of missing him would bring him back. Dion was gone, and there was nothing Morris could do to change that. Dion was gone, and everything that he’d represented to Morris was gone with him. Morris couldn’t continue to hold onto him. He just couldn’t.

Morris turned away. He couldn’t look at Gisu, couldn’t look at the mix of hurt and frustration and pity written on her face. He just couldn’t.

“Morris…” Gisu started. The tinge of sympathy in her voice was like acid down Morris’ back. He glared at the wall, and said nothing.

What an awful night. What an awful, horrible, no-good night.

The vent cover clattered to the floor. Morris turned to watch as none other than Pooter fell out, doing a flip in the air and bowing once he landed. “I got your board.” He announced, holding out Gisu’s levboard. He looked at Morris.

“What’s up with him?”

FF16 Blogging: The final episode. Spoilers for the whole damn thing.

Okay. So. The end was fine. Ultima was challenging enough and the meat and like, thematic stuff wrapped up nicely. I feel like this ending is… more ambiguous than usual, and as such, I feel the best way to address my feelings on it is to highlight the 5 biggest things I still have questions about.

1. What’s the deal with Metia. It’s something in space, in stable orbit a specific distance from the moon. It’s also connected to either aether or Clive or something, cos Jill watches it go out and that’s when she loses it. But like, why does it actually go out, just then? How is it up there in the first place? What, actually in a physical sense, is it? This is not sufficiently addressed for how… weird it is. What’s actually going on there? And, while we’re on it, who’s Greagor? How did that story come about? Like, the Circle of Malleus or w/e can’t be the only ones who sort of got it right—I wanna know more about the belief systems here.

2. So… who died? Did Clive successfully revive Joshua? Did HE succumb to the curse after absorbing Ultima’s power or whatever (that was implied re: his hand on the beach)? Did Joshua actually write the book or did Clive, under his name? Also, not for nothing, but those boys in the post credits sequence looked a lot like the two of them, and I thought their mother was an aged Jill for a second—is there something to that, or are they just randos? Also, what happened to Dion? It seemed like he died, but that’s not exactly confirmed. Like… what…. actually happened, y’know? Why be so coy?

3. What was the deal with the Fallen and the Final Sin and shit? Like, okay, Ultima created humans. Was that (The Final Sin) like a diluvian moment, like “nah, gotta start over.” Or (and this is more interesting), were they not human, but rather the indigenous inhabitants of Valisthea that Ultima basically colonized overtop of. If they ever really explained what happened there, or why Fallen tech was so advanced, I missed it. But that could be a cool DLC space.

4. Speaking of missing things, there were at least 2, maybe 3, empty slots on Clive’s memory wall or w/e by the time I was done. I did everything I came across, so I’m like—is that an NG+ thing, or did I miss some shit? And if so, how, cos I talked to everyone and went everywhere I could. (It’s probably the chronoliths—I didn’t really do that.)

5. What happened to Leviathan? It’s clearly established that when a Dominant dies, eventually a new one will awaken and the Eikonic line continues. So how does one get lost? What would it take to stop that from happening? My first thought was that it’s somehow related to the Mothercrystals that have been destroyed before the storyline begins. But that’s 3 of them, so why only one lost Eikon? But then, I remembered that, based on how Phoenix works, there seems to be some genetic component to that Eikonic line. So like, given that, a genocide might explain the loss of an Eikon. Is that an intentional implication? What’s going on there?

That what I can think of right now.

Overall, I enjoyed it—more than I did 13 or 15; I’d put it on a par with 12. But that’s one of my favorites and I’m definitely gonna replay this one.

I also found out you 1) can basically solo FF14 if you want to; like use NPCs for raiding parties and do a lot of shit on your own, and 2) the whole base game and first expansion are playable without a subscription fee.

So maybe after AC6, I’ll think about it.

finishing ffxvi

endgame lore dump time! ultima+fallen discovered magic and created an advanced civilization. the use of magic caused blight so they abandoned their physical bodies and went to a new land (a new world??? why else bother with becoming beings of spirit) and that was Valisthea. but they also brought the blight with them to valisthea, so part 3 of their plan is to make a 3rd land/new world free of blight. the mothercrystals were collecting aether to power the creation spell. ultima created humans to farm out a vessel capable of holding the power.

if they wanted to go the whole pilisophical debate on how free will is a burden, they should have developed that more through out the game. the weight of choice and the weight of consequence by. because clive doesn't make all that many weighty choices in the game, save the ship of sinking orphans or save the tower of burning orphans but you can only choose 1. that type of stuff. like maybe have clive go interact with the mothercrystal cities and see how their destruction has directly ruined these people's lives. Like i think half of valisthea is dead since the start of the game, could have framed that through the lens of choice. or they should have made a Dragon Age branching paths game although that makes it incredibly hard to make sequels as games like Three Houses or Origins can attest.

oooooh after clive sucks a dominant. if they try to prime they go berserk. ooooh yeah that explains why he didn't have shiva and what happened with titan because that was never explained well. im surprised dion is willing to risk going berserk given that that exact thing happened just a short time ago and led to the destruction of his beloved empire.

i've given up on jill as a character, im fine with her being a side character, this game is the joshua clive show, but if they were going to sideline her they should have done so from the start instead of building her up as a main character only to drop her story line off a cliff. and get rid of the romance, the romance adds nothing to the game and actively makes it worse, its just a distraction from the rest of the story. having Jill be a side character is fine, reducing her role in the story to that of Clive's girlfriend isn't ok.

sidequest time: sabine might be sheltered but i do agree with her. why is a rosarian secret organization headquartered in dhalmek?

the reason i didn't understand why jill couldn't prime after clive absorbed shiva's aether was that at the very beginning of the game its established that the phoenix shares its blessing with its shields. Its established as normal that eikons can share their powers and that clive can use the phoenix's power. its only later that the game brings up the plot point that if clive drains someone, priming will kill them or berserk them which isn't explained at all with titan.

the tomes and dion quest may be my favorite. the flower lore continues. the national flower of sanbreque is the same one used for the poisonous tattoo ink used on bearers. our roots do not define us. where the emperor gifted the domesticated flower to dion to shackle him and make him obedient, tomes his other father figure gives him a wild flower to set dion free. for all the things each tell clive, tomes his guilt for not better mentoring dion and dion his crushing guilt of failing not only sanbreque but also tomes, they say very little of that to each other.

they're even going to Origin without Jill, she got sidelined SO HARD, dropped off the edge of the world. Joshua and Dion are both going and they're going to die if they prime. AND THEY DON'T EVEN GO ON AN AIRSHIP there was that whole subplot about Mid designing an airship. a great way to foil Ultima's plan is to keep Joshua at the hiddeway since Ultima needs both brothers.

huh. ultima's kindred/the fallen turned their bodies into the crystal/the mothercrystals (from which all crystal originates). what what happened to that whole dragon corpse thing. unless you're saying they're a hivemind dragon? those made into crystal were meant to be abandoned in valisthea but by destroying the mothercrystals clive has freed them. ok you lost me. presumably 8? 9? eikon statues each with an ultima in front of it and there was also an ultima sealed in joshua. each mothercrystal was actually an ultima, but there were only 5 mothercrystals. im confused.

Ifrit doesn't get a new design new design now that phoenix and ifrit have fully combined? robbed. ROBBED. After seeing the mural the entire game I was hoping to be able to play as the true eikon of fire. they never did explain what was special about the element of fire, i mean why wasn't leviathan or garuda the vessel?

clive, didn't we have this whole arc about not sacrificing yourself and going it alone.

so joshua his body falling apart gives the past of his power to clive before dying. clive beats up ultima and absorbs him. clive then restores the damage on joshua's body/tries to pour phoenix back into him before deciding to kamikaze black the entirety of origin. He's then implied to have died of the curse from using too much power on the shore and jill's reaction later. joshua is implied to have survived and written the story in the epilogue. hey clive maybe if you just sliced the crystal like you did the others you might not have died.

or apparently the lyrics hint that clive wrote the story in joshua's name and clive was looking at the moon. who knows i dont care anymore.

this story is wack. one of the least coherent stories I have seen in some time, the further on it goes the worse it gets. and it started so strongly too or perhaphs because of the prologue format. it brings up plot threads only to drop them character arcs go no where, it thematically backtracks and double crosses itself. it tries to do 17 themes without tying them together.

FFXVI feels like some mix of got, dragon age, final fantasy, but worse than all of them.

ambiguous and concrete endings are equal, it is about what purpose each serves. what does an ambiguous ending add to the themes, to the atmosphere, to the storytelling? what does a concrete ending add to the themes, to the atmosphere, to the storytelling? on a personal level i enjoy the mastery needed to craft a subtle and good ambiguous ending. however the ambiguous ending here doesn't help any part of ffxiv

So if someone's got, ahem.... some BO? That's gonna be the first thing I notice. Doesn't matter how pretty their eyes are, I'ma notice the SMELL. (Same if they smell really, really nice though. Pretty eyes be damned! If they smell good that's the best.)

Depends on my mood. I like a nice happy ending after a lot of PAIN. But I like scary movies too, if they're actually scary and not just a gore fest. Yuck.

Surprising no one, art and music. When I was in high school, I knocked all my required courses out of the way so I could spend my senior year taking every single art and music course I could fit in my schedule. It was a great year.

15. dream job?

I've always wanted to be able to make a living being an artist. It's difficult and I don't make much in commissions, but I just had a like.... quarter life crisis kinda? I quit my corporate job because I was so miserable, I couldn't even step foot in the building anymore. So now I'm going to save up so I can go to school for tattooing and do what I really want to do, rather than what I think I have to do.

🧟‍♂️The Two Headed Monster’s Fae Ring of Torture🐉

Torture was a very subjective word and Delta had a morbid sense of humor. It would take some time to create the safety rings around the inn and Funkytown. It was during this time she texted Maddy about leaving the area. Delta would hope the pair would make haste. She’d go to the outskirts of town and she would fuck Frank till Bastien sent word they’d completed the task she sent him out to do. She’d be pleasantly surprised it wouldn’t have taken as long as expected with Maddy’s bubbles. She thought she’d be out there fooling around with her Lurchy much longer before she’d hear the interruption. It really was nice to hear Maddy Mouse wasn’t turning out to be such a lame investment after all. She was contributing rather nicely now. How useful. 

The last thing Delta would do is put up a sign in Sally’s yard that said  Delta and Frank’s Property. Abandon All Hope Ye Who Enter Here. She knew the last bit wasn’t needed with just their names on it but she enjoyed the flair. 

She’d send all her fae soldiers home to the fae realm, even Tree. It would make the castle look abandoned and unprotected. 

Then it was on. She’d activate the full power of the magic. Slowly but surely everyone inside would start to succumb to this enchantment. She sent all her soldiers and Moores home so that there would be no fae of her kind with the power to escape. Only her own kind would have any sort of weakness to being tricked by humans that might realize they’re under an enchantment trying to break it. She’d leave them no opportunity to meet those with the power. No chance for a weak link or a fae to be tricked back. There was only Maleficent who kept getting her blown up by demands of “his” queen to hurry up and get to Skull Rock already. She’d be dealing with that soon. 

Back to Delta’s magic. 

Dancing. Delta loves dancing. Everyone’s heard of fairies making people dance and dance with no ability to stop. Those stories amused Delta so much she decided to force this lame town to die being forced to do everything she liked they never did. This town would live and breathe Delta and the two headed dragon until they breathed their last breath. 

So they would dance. The whole town would dance and they’d not be able to stop for any reason. They’d dance to three songs on repeat. 

 Delta’s favorite song she dances to about her love for Frank. Her dark love song the most beautiful moment of her life. So Beautiful. 

Then it would flip to Pulscifier a song she’d hear Frank listen to quite often that touched her dark little fae heart. 

Then just to be a little shit for the last song she put on Celion Dion’s And So This is Christmas. Over and over this would crack her up to send off Nola with. 

So this is christmas and what have you done another year over a new one just began and so this is christmas i hope you have fun the near and the dear ones the old and the young a very merry christmas and a happy new year lets hope its a good one without any tears. and so this christmas for weak and for strong the rich and the poor ones. the world is so one and so happy Christmas for black and for whites the yellow and red wines a very merry Christmas and a happy new year

It wouldn’t matter if the town didn’t get it. New Orleans’ entire population would be left in this jarring rotation of completely different sounding grooves, their feet on the move, their heads banging on one, their hips shaking. They wouldn’t be able to stop to do daily life things like eat, drink, sleep. Clever humans might last longer who would find a way to snatch food on the go and pee on the move. Life would get complicated. Exhaustion would set in. No human could last this way forever. 

Merry fucking Christmas Nola you fucking bitches. Delta would laugh her way all the way to Christmas Town. 

Delta would leave to Christmas Town so amused with herself and actually humming Celion Dion amused thinking of all the humans slowly dying of dancing feet unable to eat, sleep, or stop to take a shit. 

Another thing to note is the world will seem bloody like Delta visuals in her head to keep focus when she gets bored or even to get turned on. 

The world to everyone inside the ring will see the way Delta wishes the world is. The magic will have a hallucinating effect. Blood dripping down buildings, walls, rivers of red rushing down streets. It’s all fae magic but it’s her dream world they’ll be dancing in. To most humans it’ll be scary. It’s not Halloweentown despite it being Nola. 

It was the non humans she had to magic up something more creative for. 

The vampires would slowly die for lack of humans to feed on eventually. This wasn’t Twilight. Vampires couldn’t live on animals alone or dead things. They needed to take life. What a bummer. There wasn’t a vampire in Nola she gave a shit about. 

Werewolves or other werecreatures like the gorillas and such that Tarzan took care of were another story. Delta made it so that they’d start pegging each other off come next full moon. A twist in lunar perception with the hallucinations making them werecreature out night after night. 

Mermaids in the Nevers just stayed under water. All safe and sound. 

The King would grow tired and angry about Maleficent and send his hoards out in a rash of his own wrath. By the time he’s doing this people are starting to dance and music is playing over intercoms he has no idea where it’s coming from. The Horned King was ready for a real battle and his hoards were chasing dancing people? To say he was thrown off before he could barely get started was putting it lightly. Then Grimhilde was screaming. She really thought she’d just won completely when Maleficent didn’t show up. She had the Horned King to herself. She won it all. 

Now to explain where everyone playable was when all this went down and how it will affect each one cause I just can’t play all this. I want to get to Christmas and Frankie and the triplets. I just want everything set up for New Year. 

Koda and Elsa are about to walk into Funkytown to drop off the dolls. This puts them in a safe zone. They should stay there till this wave is over unless anyone makes the mistake of leaving. Unless they change course and dance their way back in like fuck this and go back. 

When Willem finds out this is a safe zone through Medusa freaking out unable to stop dancing and scared, panicking, and yet no one is dancing inside Funkytown he’s going to beg Figaro to open the doors for her if she can dance her way there. 

Then he’s going to do the same thing for his client. He’s going to ask Figaro if Parrish can bring his family of dolls there until he gets back and can figure something out, beg Delta, just something, but he’ll swear it’s temporary and says the whole world can just stay in his spare room if they want even if they have to squoosh. 

As long as Figaro allows this Medusa will be Parrish’s blood supply until Hook and Willem get back which is really going to annoy Hook. If Figaro takes issues with Willem’s requests just have her text him and they can discuss. 

The Fate Sisters - They are stuck dancing forever in this existence unable to die no matter how exhausting it gets

Alan the minstrel and Friar Tuck - These two will be in dance battle meaning battling zombies while also dancing until they made it to the Inn on Kuzco’s orders. It was part of why he wanted the Inn tired of using someone else’s house as their portal. He wanted Piper to learn a one and only Kuzco”s one. He didn’t like having things that weren’t his. Kuzco was big buddies with the minstrel. He had groove. Of course he was. This was lance’s dad. This is how they’d learn this was a safe zone. The workers there were not dancing which Kuzco almost felt was blasphemy of it’s own to have music outside and not be dancing. But they promised to put on their own music there and dance to their own groove instead of Delta’s music and Kuzco felt a whole lot better about the situation. 

CJ - He’s popped into another realm and was unaffected at the time of the ring’s activation. He’ll be hanging around Halloweentown still since the carnival. 

Silvain -  (is from West Virginia and technically part of Caim’s world so he’s not going to be within the circle when this goes down even though I’m making him a long lost friend of Bastien’s and haven’t gotten his muse started yet. It keeps him in a safe place to be started later on)

Pan and the Lost Boys - Pan and lost boys will fall before Delta ever comes back. This will cause the Nevers to freeze over in a winter storm. - The strange part will be (and they won’t be able to know this now) Willem holds the key to bringing Pan back. But it would not bring any of the lost boys back. Pan’s a special spirit connected to the Nevers and so was Tink. But that’s for another time - if ever - if it ever gets that far when he and Hook return. 

Babyface is going to keep throwing bodies from the Halloween portal into Nola and not like the results until he finally gets the idea from Ellie to think about what Chip would do. The gas mask idea finally hits him. But, it’s also really hard to keep a mask on. So, he’ll be texting Ellie and trying to talk her into coming to Halloweentown to be safe with him. I’ll put that up next.  

Silas survived the only way he knew how. In the shadows like his father. He didn’t have to dance if he didn’t have a body to dance with. But he was stuck and he couldn’t get out. 

The rest of the town is in an endless dancing world kicking up blood as they go while the Horned King learns he can’t get his hoards past the borders either. He’s trapped in this nonsensical place. 

Once it’s in full swing and even the powerful Lich King is dancing with Evil Queen Maleficent would finally show up to laugh at the pair stuck in this trap. 

The hallucinatory effects of the magic ring would make her appear to them even more maniacal than ever. Delta didn’t leave a calling card other than the songs. Maybe someone would guess who did this. Maybe they wouldn’t. But Maleficent would show those two her face and watch their agony enjoying her daughter’s play hilariously trapping the Horned King in this wretched town and then abandoning it like it was useless fodder that it is. It really was delightful. 

As for Delta after Christmas Town she intended to go to the fae realm. But, she did intend to come back to the castle eventually to check out who survived her little game in Nola. When she said Nola would be forever gone as they knew it she meant it. She was tired of everyone in it so she decided to clear it out. If anyone survived she’d sort through them when she got back and see if they were worthy of being left alone or not. She wanted her isolation and her castle. If anyone existed in her town that gave her bad vibes from the past she’d destroy them manually herself for daring to survive in her territory. 

Delta would fill her world with monsters she liked or it would remain empty just for her and Frank, Tree, and their hanging tower, and castle with her favorite ledge. She didn’t need much else in life. Really. 

SIDE NOTE FOR PERU: In Real Life the Peruvian President just went down and was arrested which makes it seem like a corrupt government is really going on yo even if it’s not the way it is in our story. lol. This is perfect timing for our make believe world of Piper getting ready to make her big move alongside Delta’s big move. 

What Piper Does Next should come in another post next because whether Fig lets Medusa and Parrish in or not Funkytown just became base inside a dying Nola and it’s a good thing they just stocked the Hell up on everything not wanting to shop in the Christmas crowds because there’d be no one keeping the local stores alive anymore. No groceries and supplies here. If they need anything it’s going to get turned around and they’re going to need that portal to Peru for supplies into Funkytown instead. 

Then there’s the issue of the supreme. What happened to that? 

Telekinesis, Concilium, Transmutation, Divination, Pyrokinesis, Vitalum Vitalis, Descensum, The Seven Wonders. Sound like anyone we know? Anyone at all? Who had an array of obnoxious powers and then some? It seemed like they could do just about anything. It had already been established it wasn’t Delta. She was a fae. It wasn’t Piper. Her fire came from the tree. Who else could move objects with their mind, transfigure objects into anything, including themselves, transmuting into nothing, invisible, or blending in with objects, create fire, predict things, act like a harbinger, jump into the land of the dead, not just that land, but any realm, all kinds of places? She enjoyed the madness. 

Chess did. 

No one ever suspected Chess. She was all powerful. She would even come back from the dead. 

Thomas would sadly have to come across her body when the fishing vessel arrives and they’d start the long hard job of burying all the voodooists. Valerie would decide she’d want to bury her by the tree where she created the short cut not out in the main graveyard they were making. It would just seem right. Their own special place. But, it’ll be later on Chess will make the journey back to her own body and dig herself out of her grave. It’ll be then it’ll hit Valerie square in the face it was fucking Chess all along. Chess’s personality would never seek power. Valerie would find the whole thing hilarious when it all plays out. Chess will climb out before Christmas so Valerie gets her Macabre Family Christmas after all, not a good friend missing.

Marcus isn’t sure whether he should be insulted or not, but he’s definitely intrigued.

However, for all of that he possesses a very sharp mind and cares deeply for his dorm members and the monsters in their care. His honesty and confidence are the most appealing of his traits, and MC realizes that he’s the sort of person that can be easily trusted.

Melancholic and fragile he seems like he’d break at the lightest of touches, but there’s a glimpse of steel hiding behind silk as well. He treats MC with the utmost respect and kindness and it’s hard not to become attached to him.

Presentation: No one is sure about the origins of Adrien Voisin. He certainly has no desire to share them either. Stalking the halls of the academy at night, his gait slow and frightening, he seems to take a certain delight in frightening his fellow classmates. He’s far from a regular delinquent though, as for what he lacks in force he more than makes up in intelligence. He seems to form a strange attachment to the MC who has so far reciprocated his strange attempts at friendship, though it’s clear that his understanding of such concepts is rather skewed.

Presentation: A mysterious young aristocrat from a prominent family, Vito Dies enjoys toying with others for his own amusement. He’s a very secretive man who always wears a mocking smile, but his charming demeanour often has others eating out of the palm of his hand. He talks about an unseen lover that he left behind and is separated from, but nobody is sure just who exactly that is. Still, he seems to have taken an unusual interest in MC regardless. Whether that is good or not, MC isn’t sure just yet.

Li-Po Backstory Document: Raz

Raz was born into a poor circus family. Well, calling it a circus would be stretching it. The entire act consisted of him, his parents (Augustus and Donatello), his four brothers and sisters (Dion, Frazie, Mirtala, and Queepie), and their one-room caravan.  Raz was trained by his father to be an acrobat. He was a Master Tumbler, Tightrope Walker, Trapeze Artist, and Bar Swinger-Onner. But deep down, Raz new he had other gifts that were strange and powerful.

When he was very young, Raz learned he could lift small things with his mind. He could make his rattle fly into his hand, and make his stuffed animals dance. He could also hear other people’s thoughts. His parents did not like this one bit, and they punished Raz whenever he showed off one of his bizarre talents. They abhorred anything paranormal, but wouldn’t explain any more than to say, “We’re a circus, not a freak show!”

Raz practiced in private, undaunted. He felt that his calling was to use his psychic powers to make a better life for his family, even though they resisted for reasons he couldn’t understand. He secretly collected news clippings on the Psychonauts, psychic superheroes who traveled the world fighting psychic terrorism. He saved clippings of their exploits. Under his bedroll was a stash of photographs depicting famous psychic agents.

Much to his parent’s dismay, Raz stopped wearing the silken tumbling outfits his mother made for him, and started dressing in mod-looking black outfits. They didn’t know it, but he was styling himself after his favorite Psychonaut, the super cool Sasha Nein. He also started wearing a pair of “official Psychonaut goggles” that he ordered out of the back of a “Psychic Action” comic book. If his parents knew where they came from they would have snatched them off his head.

Raz couldn’t understand what his parents had against psychics. He also didn’t know why they insisted on toiling away at their little one-pony circus instead of joining a real one. Everything Raz has seen in the old scrap books indicates that his family used to be a quite a big deal in the circus. His dad and mom and his brothers and sisters were all world-class acrobats who could work in the best circuses if they chose to, but Raz’s father always said no. That was not their destiny. Because of a horrible curse placed on their family, they could never set foot in the big top again, or else they would die in an agonizing, water-related accident.

Raz wondered if this was also why Augustus never seemed to bathe.

He thought his dad was crazy. He thought the “curse” was all in his head. Maybe if Raz was a world-famous Psychonaut, he could fix his dad and free his family from their one room, rolling prison.

One day, Raz found an ad in “Psychic Action” for Whispering Rock Psychic Summer Camp. He could hardly contain his excitement. “Do you think you have what it takes to be a Psychonaut?” the ad read, “Come to our special training facility and learn how to unlock the Master Psychic with in you!”

He was not surprised at all when his parents forbid it. Even before they tore up his comic book and told him to forget all about it, Raz had already decided to run away. He took off one night by the light of the full moon, leaving his parents a note that said he would be back someday soon and make everything better.

A HISTORY OF CHRISTIANITY IN WITCHCRAFT

How many of you have heard someone say “there is no such thing as a Christian witch?” Maybe I should say, how many times each week do you hear this phrase?

Many pagans just cannot understand people self-identifying as Christian Witches. But they don't have to understand something to be accepting of it. There are an amazing number of Witchcraft traditions that have Christianity quietly tucked into their DNA somewhere. Nothing emerges in a vacuum and for the last 1700 years Christianity has been the elephant in the room, and Christianity stemmed from Judaism, whose texts originate back well before a lot of paganism's.

Christianity has influenced Buddhism, Hinduism, and Islam over the last 1500 years, and ancient paganism was influenced by the believers in the God of Noah, Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob/Israel. This is how religions and belief systems work, and to think that modern paganism or “the witch community somehow stands outside of that paradigm is sheer hubris” (a quote from the pagan whose article influenced this lesson).

“One document consisted of notes originally taken by a man who was initiated into a group of four elderly women in the Oxfordshire village in which he lived in the years around 1940. They were a part of the teachings of this group, and consisted of the various magical uses to which twenty-six of the Biblical Psalms could be put sometimes consisting of the whole psalm and sometimes of a single verse. They are obviously classic Christian folk magic, of a sort recorded copiously from the early Middle Ages to the twentieth century, although the special importance of the psalms to Protestants would suggest that this use of them post-dates the Reformation” (Ronald Hutton writing on a witch book owned by Andrew Chumbley in “Triumph of the Moon,” in 1999 (p. 306-307).

You may not have heard of Andrew Chumbley, but his impact on Modern Witchcraft over the last 20 years has been extraordinary. Much of the current rise in “Traditional Witchcraft” can be traced in no small part to the work of Chumbley, who spent years documenting magical techniques and practices, most notably his own Sabbatic Tradition. Chumbley wasn't a Christian, but if he used the text written about above in his magical work, he was most certainly influenced by Christianity. And in the world of Traditional Witchcraft, such influences are common, not rare. Chumbley is also majorly responsible for the boom in high quality Witchcraft books from specialty publishers.

The first person most of us think of when it comes to Traditional Witchcraft is Robert Cochrane, whose witch group is still called The Clan of Tubal-Cain. Tubal-Cain was a descendant of Adam and Eve, and was a famous blacksmith that is mentioned in the Bible. He was not a figure from Greek mythology, as some believe. He was also not an Incan or a Mayan, as others believe. Traditional witchcraft also often references figures such as Lucifer or Satan or the Devil, and we all know where he came from.

If you have seen the book “The Red Goddess,” you will immediately notice the quotation from the Song of Solomon (that's a book in the Bible) on the back, not to mention all of the quotes from the book of Revelation which feature prominently in its text. And if you read a lot of Traditional Witchcraft books, you've no doubt run into figures such as the Nephalim, Watchers, and Enoch. Where do people think this stuff comes from?

In addition, there is a long history of Christians using magic. Many practices are influenced by charmers or cunning-folk. These are techniques practiced overwhelmingly by self-identifying Christians. Are you into Pennsylvania Dutch Pow-Wow? That's another thing developed by Christians.

Guess how many of the witches who were killed during the infamous witch hunts were pagans? None. None of them were pagan. They all identified as Christians.

Wiccan-witchcraft has also been heavily impacted by Christianity. The early modern grimoires which helped to shape a lot of Wiccan ritual practices were mostly written by Christians, and those that weren't were written by Muslims and Jews. All three of these religions worship the God of Abraham and their beliefs systems all stem from one religion. Abraham and his God are documented in ancient texts found in archaeological excavations. The names of many of those grimoires give away their Biblical roots: “The Key of Solomon,” “The Sixth and Seventh Books of Moses,” and “The Grimoire of Pope Honorius” are just three examples of grimoires that were written by Biblical or Christian figures. And don't overlook just how impactful some of these books have been on Wicca especially. There are a lot of Wiccan teachings that read like they came straight from “The Key of Solomon.”

Wiccans have borrowed a whole lot of stuff from Freemasonry over the years, from vocabulary to ritual techniques, and the Masons were overwhelmingly Christian. Many of Masonry's most esoteric architects were Christian too, and many Wiccans have taken a little from them over the years too. Groups such as the Theosophical Society honored Jesus, and one of the world's all time favorite occultists, Dion Fortune, always found time for her Master Jesus.

So, yes, modern witchcraft owes Christians no small debt of gratitude for many of their practices. Today the world calls many of these things “witchcraft” so it makes sense that Christians looking to engage in these practices would call themselves Christian Witches.

Many witches who seem aghast at the idea of Christian Witches in their midst often quote the Bible to back up their outrage. And they have no idea what the verses they are quoting actually mean even! The word “witchcraft” can have a whole host of different meanings, and its use usually comes down to who is doing the translating.

The Bible condemns a lot of different things – such as lying and gossip and sexual immorality and fits of anger and arguments and envy and dishonoring your parents and drunkenness and breaking the Sabbath, among many others (for an example see Galatians 5:19-21) - and it says that those who do these things will not inherit the kingdom of God. But Christians seem to ignore most of these and focus on two communities – the LGBTQ community and the witchcraft communities – both of whose translations were mauled by the early Bible translators who were ALL under the influence of the man made doctrines of the churches of the Dark Ages.

If witchcraft is simply a magical practice, void of religion or spirituality, how can there not be Christian Witches? That is like saying that there can't be Jewish herbalists. Certainly the idea of witchcraft is not compatible with an overwhelming majority of Christians, because they believe the lies, but why should anyone else care if some of us DO believe in the power of magic that we KNOW we have been gifted with, while finding spiritual fulfillment in the God of Adam, Noah, Abraham, the disciples, Paul, and a multitude of others throughout history? It doesn't hurt them unless we try to start speaking for all of them. But all we can do is present the truth in love, and then back off to let the seed of truth grow in their hearts, watered by the Holy Spirit.

Witchcraft is empowering. Shouldn't Christians and pagans alike be all in for anyone with an open mind using it to take charge of their life? Shouldn't they be all for more witches in the world, not less?

In Depth (spoiler free)

🔹 Jojo (Sono Chi no Sadame), Hiroaki Tommy Tominaga

Sono Chi no Sadame is the first opening of Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure and is truly what sets up the stage for the rest of the series. Jonathan Joestar, being the first Jojo, begins the Jojo legacy in Phantom Blood. The song lyrics heavily foreshadow the future of the Jojo series and describes Jonathan as someone who has honor and always does what is right. Sono Chi no Sadame is a spectacular opening act to the unique concept of Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure. *side note* Muscially speaking wow this song is incredibly good the crescendoes and frequent tempo changes as well as the instrumentals amaze me- this is easily my favorite Jojo opening.

🔹BREATHE, AB6IX

Hamon (also known as Ripple or Sendo) is a technique that heavily focuses on controlled breathing. Jonathan learned and mastered Hamon in a very short amount of time. BREATHE also has a very light feeling to it, making the song easy to listen to which connects to Jojo as he is a lighthearted and easy going guy.

🔹breathin, Ariana Grande

Likewise as BREATHE by AB6IX, breathin correlates to the Hamon technique that Jonathan used to fight. Adding onto that, Jonathan lived in a grand mansion and was very well off financially. This song has an elegant sound to it. Despite the wealth that he had, Jojo did not have the easiest childhood. Ever since Dio Brando began to live with him, Jonathan saw many mishaps occur with his relationships, reputation, and self esteem. But, Jonathan Joestar never gave up on his morals and values, and he always kept “breathin and breathin and breathin” no matter what, making sure he would always do the right thing.

🔹Silence, Marshmello ft. Khalid

Silence explains and describes Jonathan’s teenage years very well along with his relationship with Dio. Dio coming to live with Jonathan messed him up as Jonathan felt inferior to Dio who was taking the spotlight by being an amazing athlete and intelligent student. This prompted lots of praise from Jonathan’s father and comparing him to Dio constantly, which made Jonathan feel like he wasn’t worth as much. “I found peace in your violence” is a very meaningful line that contributes to Jonathan’s and Dio’s relationship because of the fact that Dio was... an extremely violent person ever since he was a kid and has done crazy evil things to Jonathan, yet Jonathan didn’t really hate Dio because of Jojo’s noble personality- Dio was Jonathan’s “brother,” therefore Jonathan couldn’t hate him. Jojo felt like he had to be silent over Dio’s actions because he didn’t want to spoil the love that his father gave to Dio, again proving how big of a heart Jonathan had.

🔹Dollhouse, Melanie Martinez

Dollhouse is a rather dark song, but is perfect to show off the darker side of Jonathan’s character. As we know, Jonathan is a young man who presents himself as well... perfect. He’s smart, incredibly kind and noble, rich, popular, and athletic. After Dio appeared and started to really turn things around for Jonathan, he had to continue to present the same image of himself even though his home life was becoming a wreck. His own father constantly scolded him and loved Dio to a great extent. “Pose with your brother won’t you be a good sister?” Jonathan knew that Dio’s actions were evil and he had ill intent at such a young age but Jojo had to go along with the act that Dio put on, faking the close brotherly relationship between them.

🔹London Boy, Taylor Swift

Sometimes I forget that Jonathan Joestar is in fact British. London Boy is a song for Jonathan not just because he lives in/by London, but also because the song describes a man who is just so sweet and has a beautiful laugh. The overall song is just so positive and loving towards this English boy. Every time I listen to this song I now think of Jonathan, and a smile always plasters on my face. Taylor Swift also has a lyric talking about watching rugby which reminded me of the iconic Jonathan and Dio rugby scene early in the story. Jonathan is such a respectful gentleman whom everyone just can’t help but fall in love with his lovely English charm.

🔷Line Without a Hook, Ricky Montgomery

After upon listening to this song, I felt like it really gave off Jonathan vibes because of the light but a tinge of melancholy sound to it. Thing song is quite reflective of Jonathan and Erina with the lyrics “I broke all my bones that day I found you crying at the lake” because it reminded me of when Jonathan first met Erina, who was being bullied by a couple of boys but Jonathan risked getting beaten up to stop the bullies from harming Erina. Later, Jonathan was laying on a hill with his dog Danny, feeling quite down because of none other than Dio, but Erina came and dropped off some grapes and his handkerchief and that was what really started off their relationship. The iconic line “she’s a, she’s a lady, and I am just a line without a hook” explains that Erina was Jonathan’s sole happiness in his life.

🔹Fighter, Christina Aguilera

Honestly, Dio really sucked (I still love him *sigh*). He wanted to completely destroy Jonathan’s life and make it absolutely miserable... for what? Well, despite the horrific actions that Dio performed to ruin Jonathan’s reputation and will, that ultimately backfired as Jonathan rose stronger than ever. Of course Jonathan was mad at Dio for his unspeakable actions, but because of him, he was able to have a certain drive where he gained immense strength in a short amount of time. William Zeppeli describes Jonathan as a Hamon prodigy because of how quickly Jojo was able to master it. Jojo was a natural, but again, he had that determination to defeat Dio once and for all. Despite the hardships Jonathan went through as a result of Dio’s decisions, Jonathan did not resent him in the end- Jojo became an extremely powerful individual because of his past.

🔹Classic, MKTO

In order to create a playlist for our favorite gentleman, it’s only necessary that we add a classic gentlemanly song to it! There’s not much of a deep gloomy reason why this song correlates with Jonathan, in fact it’s the complete opposite. Classic is a song that talks about being a classy and polite man, and to put it simply, Jonathan is exactly that.

🔹Win, CIX

From the God of High School soundtrack, Win is a song about fighting and training together as a team. This upbeat song greatly reminds me of the mini team of Jonathan Joestar, Speedwagon, and William Zeppeli all fighting against Dio and his minions together. Jonathan Joestar was not able to fight Dio without a hamon teacher, William, and an incredibly loyal friend, Speedwagon. This trio had great camaraderie and were overall an incredibly adorable and high morale team.

🔹Blue Hour, TXT

Ok so does this song really have a deep meaning or correlation to Jonathan Joestar? Nahhh not really, I just added it as a bit of a bonus. Blue Hour has an almost fairytale like vibe to it and I just thought it would be something that resonated with Jonathan, especially when he was a child. So, enjoy this little serotonin bonus boost!

🔹We Belong, Ong Seong Wu

Jonathan’s and Erina’s relationship was very short... but sweet. We Belong is an emotional love song explaining how this one guy meets someone who is their entire world, like when Jonathan met Erina. Through Jojo’s darkest times when he felt like he lost everything, Erina was by his side no matter what. Even though their marriage was abruptly ended with the death of Jonathan, it doesn’t disregard the fact that Erina completely loved Jonathan and supported the Joestar family for the future generations to come. Jonathan and Erina truly belonged together.

🔹My Heart Will Go On, Céline Dion

My apologies, I’m absolutely in love with Jonathan’s and Erina’s relationship. My Heart Will Go On automatically reminds me of the last moments of Jonathan. Since the song was a part of the Titanic soundtrack where there’s a romance story and people die on a sinking ship, it really correlates to Erina and Jonathan going on their honeymoon but Jonathan ending up dead on the ship. Everytime I think of either the song or Jonathan’s and Erina’s last moments together, my heart feels heavy. Both the song and the scene are extremely high in emotions and both suit each other quite well.

🔹Needed Me, Rihanna

Dio killed Jonathan so that he could merge with Jojo’s body, and ultimately use it for evil and for power. “Never told you, you could have it,” symbolizes that Dio forcibly took everything Jonathan had, again including his own body. Although Jonathan would probably never say the lyrics of this song to Dio because he’s so noble, externally everyone knows that without Jonathan, Dio would have been absolutely nothing in Part 3.

🔹Glorious, Macklemore ft. Skylar Grey

The song Glorious questions oneself’s purpose in life, the answer being ‘give back to the people.’ Jonathan has proven that he has countlessly sacrificed himself for others, as was seen when he died on the ship and told Erina to take care of the orphaned baby and to “live a happy life.” Jonathan struggled greatly in his short life, but he always had the passion of helping others since he was born to do so.
