What is happiness?   Is happiness, ecstasy, "an overwhelming feeling of great happiness or joyful excitement?"  Or is happiness, peace, "freedom from disturbance; tranquility?"  Understanding what happiness is, is the most effective way to help happiness appear in our lives more often.

The Moral Dilemma of Generation Z

My generation is one of the most selfish and center minded generations to ever have existed.  We have grown into a world that we’re constantly taking from: from the planet, from family, from friends, and from ourselves.  We are no longer capable of living simply as did many of our ancestors.  We are the first generation that is unfamiliar with a world in which technology does not control our lives and livelihood, nor do we know what privacy and legitimate happiness looks like.  We are constantly reaching for an empty happiness while still desperately craving more and more instant gratification, but does that necessarily mean that we will be happy? Will any of this matter as we wither away in a nursing home, unable to move without shaking, or live without assistance?  Does the world in which we currently live really matter?  We are simply one speck on the face of time; before long, the sun won’t remember that it ever shed light on our faces, darkened our skin, or visualized the destruction of our own creation.  The sun will simply continue to shine brightly until it, too, eventually begins to dim, just like our phone as they die and our own sinking wits as we realize just how much they’re taking with them.

Someone asked me, “What is happiness?”. It seemed to be an odd question at the time but it made me think. I came up with several answers after checking on dictionaries - it is a state and not a trait, it is a feeling of contentment with pleasure. But I realized, the definition of happiness will depend on WHO you ask because it actually is a highly subjective thing. Everyone has different needs in life and everyone experiences happiness in different ways. One man’s happiness could mean solitude in a room while listening to reggae music on a Saturday night, while another’s could be at a party with friends.

So to that person who asked me, here’s my answer: Happiness is simple. Having food to eat, love within the family, good relationship with partner and friends is really what defines my life’s happiness.

TIPS for FINDING HAPPINESS: 1) From time to time, step aside from daily life. 2) Keep in mind that you are human and you have distinct needs. 3) Avoid chemicals which imitate happiness. 4) Do not fall for the first negative emotion. 5) Understand happiness for what it is.

The Gift That Is Happiness

A heavy sigh that slows the mind. 

It’s prolonged pause, lets sadness thrive. 

A frown appears from deep within. 

The mind is clouded, full of sin. 

Regret is heavy, it’s host a lost cause. 

While sadness prevails, happiness dies. 

A decade passes and happiness is nothing. 

A child’s born, into anger and fear. 

Without happiness no joy is felt. 

Without happiness no love will sprout. 

No celebrations of years gone by. 

No kiss and hug when life gets hard. 

Evil thrives when happiness dies. 

Nurture the seed when it is first felt. 

Cherish its rarity, be grateful it breaths. 

If happiness dies, so will its leaves. 

What is happiness but an umbrella of emotions. 

To joy and excitement, 

To love and a home. 

So many branches, so many leaves. 

Happiness is like an ancient tree. 

Let it live, 

For it may never die. 

When it does you’ll still survive. 

It will live in your soul, 

In your heart, 

In every moment gone by. 

Let it be your breath, and your sight. 

Let it offer you comfort when nothing else will. 

Let it be ying to yang, or the creation of life. 

Don’t let it die, 

In the breath of a sigh.

Deep thoughts Happiness what is it? The feeling from when your catch your first big break? Or The little ripples in the river of your sorrows? Your struggle to climb the mountain, but on this journey don't you hear these voices? "You'll never be able to make it!" "Your going to fail away just give up!" Oh this is the worse one "I'll see you in 5-10 years in prison a failure just like everyone else!" You'll get to a point where those voices become louder.... Where those "voices" hold no weight... Where that "pain" of being at the bottom will be motivation to inspire YOUR Redemption. You stood on the sidelines of "YOUR STORY" and for WHAT.......... You forgot who YOU WAS..until the music hits. Happiness is allowing HOPE to break down your walls, as your strive for your DREAMS.
