Woke up and laid in bed longer than I should have, but less than I usually do, and while filled with dread, it's LESS dread than usual

Walked to mass at new church, completely bland generic sermon & bland generic music, which is perfect, nobody knows me or is trying to rope me into things or expects things from me, I don't have to pretend I don't absolutely loathe so much of catholic parish culture, I can just, go in, go out, be a nameless face in the pew which is Safe and Uncontroversial. There was even the coolest looking older butch in the pew with me. Docs and leather jacket and all.

Stopped and read on a cafe patio with a coffee and pastry. The sun was out. Nobody was constantly texting me asking where I was. It was me and my iced coffee and silly vampire book.

Checked out the main shopping area, saw all the local grocers and bakeries and small local businesses. I'm not in a suburban box store desert anymore. I may pay slightly more at small businesses but if I want the luxury of this kind of area that's a cost I'm willing (and newly able) to pay. Plus living here means I don't have to own a car and am saving so much on that front that it still works out in my favour financially

Stopped by a little florist, tiny hole on the wall, met the nicest man and his nephew and got tons of plant advice based on my apartment layout and some recommendations for what should be unkillable given my brown thumb. Will absolutely be going back for more plants once I'm fully set up + some for my office

Like. This was unthinkable a year ago. I desperately need to keep my job. So I can keep this. I forgot how good it was to live in an area like this, not endless detached housing sprawl. I can walk everywhere. I lived in an arealike this in uni but my budget was nonexistent (grad school funding woooo). Now that I have a (very small admittedly) degree of financial flexibility??? Im allowed to sit on a patio with a 5$ coffee once a week??? I can pop into little florists and grocers and bakeries if I want?? Nobody is going to judge me for "wasting" money by not buying the absolutely dogshit quality cheapest thing possible??? Or not reporting on my location at all times? I owe no accounting of my every trip out the house?

the truth is im not sure if any other towns with ivy leagues in them tend to have the hatred and resentment for the school that ppl from new haven often have for yale. id love to just sit down and chat with someone from another ivy league town bc like. is it just the combo of a school full of very rich prep school kids in one of the poorest areas in the state where our public schools literally does not have the funding or curriculum for a lot of students to qualify for the college in their own fucking town or is this a wider issue in other places

I think one of the loveliest part of the prewritten campaign modules is seeing fanart for all the different characters and hearing about the different ways they were a part of people's campaigns and hearing about the cute little variations in personalities that different DMs give them. But sometimes the flipside of that is looking at how someone talks about a character and being like? That's not MY son?

Even big titles like silent hill are not easy to find and play legit these days, and good fucking luck if you want to play anything more obscure. Even if you do track down and buy a copy, you just have to hope it actually even works.

None of the project zero/fatal frame series are available online in Europe with the exception of 5. I do have the first 2 on disc but my PS2 finally conked out and I don't feel like tracking down an old console to play them. I still want to play the third installment but getting to do so is such an ordeal,not to mention very expensive.

Some, like silent hill 1 , are on the PS3 shop but who knows how long that has left. My PS3 is actually entering it's end of life stage so I'll probably lose access to that too. Then you have PT, where they just took it off everyone lmao.

I was going to get rule of rose for it's release but there was a panicked outrage about it in Ireland and it was labelled as some sort of nonce game with child murder so my parents refused to buy it. Shame, because not only was it not true, those games sell for hundreds of Euros now, and there's no legitimate digital release. Never even saw games like clocktower or haunting ground for sale anywhere when physical shops were still a thing. Did find ghosthunter though, a hidden gem most are probably unfamiliar with,but of course we lost the disc on holiday 🙄

Horror is so perfect for videogames because you've no choice but to get up close and personal so I'm surprised it's always been considered such a niche genre. And becoming all the more niche because so much of it is a complete pain in the arse to track down and play, the only exception probably being resident evil.

I don't really watch streamers but they are bringing some attention back to them I guess.
