“You shine, and I don’t mean it like ‘a shining star’. You shine like you belong here, with your feet on the ground, if that makes any sense. Your face brights up and it's the most beautiful thing anyone could ever see.”

Better Than Fiction
Fox Mulder, new in town, meets Dana Scully- a waitress at the diner he visits every day. Immediately intrigued by her, he becomes even more so when he learns more about her...
Last year, I set out to write 25 Christmas stories. Well, I made it to 23 and had to admit defeat when I knew I would not be able to meet that goal. The reason I had to stop was because THIS story in particular went far beyond what I would have been able to finish in a few days time. So, I have been working on it steadily for the past year. Off and on, I have been adding to this story and I am so excited to finally share it with you all.

Chapter One
J & M’s Diner became like a second home to Fox Mulder when he first moved to the city.
Every morning he would arrive by nine a.m. and walk to a small two person booth, near the back and out of the way. Out would come his laptop and mouse, a notebook and pen, and his glasses case. His bag was then placed onto the other seat and he would sit, cracking open his laptop, and waiting for it to wake up.
A cup of coffee and a pastry would be placed onto the table, the waitress smiling at him as she lightly touched his shoulder and walked away. He would smile as he watched her, staring at the haphazard way she tied her apron bow. Every time he saw it, he both wanted to fix it and leave it be, the bow drawing his eye throughout the day.
He was a writer and worked as he sat in the diner, finding he got more done there than at home. Not only for the ease of not worrying about food or drink, but also for the stimulation of the employees and the patrons who frequented the diner.
Living alone in a modest sized high rise apartment not far from the diner, he would find excuses not to write, procrastinating horribly. He would clean, organize, do laundry, taking the time to fold everything methodically.
He had found a chip in the paint on the wall one day, which had led him to the hardware store to buy new paint. What should have then been a quick touch up job, had turned into a five day project, the entire living/dining room repainted and then rearranged.
And not one word had been written.
Being at the diner was better for him, his fingers flying over the keyboard as ideas filled his head.
A white woman with a silver gray bob, whose age he could not determine, in wide tortoiseshell sunglasses and a long fur coat, (real fur he was certain) became a heiress in his mind. A torrid love affair had left her near penniless, her fur coat one of the last items she kept that was of any value.
The Hispanic man who came in every morning wearing his large white headphones, never speaking much but bopping his head to the tunes only he could hear, became a record executive, trying to find the next new up and coming artists.
The thin older black woman who always dressed to the nines and sat quietly in her booth by the window sipping her tea, had lost a lover years ago and the diner had been where they had used to meet, happy and laughing the day away.
His fingers had fumbled over her story, finding a deep sadness within it, and he’d had to stop writing it. Instead, he had sat down with her one day and asked her about her life. Her smile had changed her whole face, her dark brown eyes sparkling and the smile lines around her mouth deepening.
She had agreed to allow him to record her stories and they had spent days talking and laughing as she told him about her child and adulthood. She had been so much more than even he could imagine and he loved speaking to her every day, then transcribing her words later at home.
The Puerto Rican family who stopped in on Friday evenings though, they were his favorites. Husband and wife, with six kids, would come in for dinner and dessert. Laughing and singing, the husband and wife would dance around, the owners of the diner playing music and joining in with the excitement.
He imagined them as a happy family, money a bit tight perhaps, judging by the adults' clothing, but the children never went without. Friday at the diner, kids ate for free, so those nights were special, something to look forward to the most.
Not until he had been frequenting the diner for awhile, did he learn that they were actually family members of the owners. They could have actually come in any day and eaten for free, but they kept it only to Friday’s, something Fox found endearing.
Those nights when he stayed later than usual, he would not write, but watch them with a notebook in front of him. He would sketch them, capturing the images of them dancing, the kids laughing with huge sundaes before them, and the other patrons smiling and joining their happiness.
He loved Friday evenings.
In the two months of getting to know everyone, right down to the delivery men’s days and times, his reason for coming to the diner began to evolve. He now mostly came to see and speak to one of the waitresses.
Her name was Dana and every time he saw her, she made him smile. She was funny, sassy, and kind. He watched the way she treated customers, with firmness if needed, but mostly with kindness, laughing as she brought them their food.
She worked the morning shift and though it was generally busy, it would slow down at times, affording them a chance to talk and get to know one another.
She was twenty eight, with blue eyes and red hair she usually wore in two French braids looped together into a low bun at the base of her neck.
Incredibly intelligent, their discussions of topics flowed far more easily than any date he had been on in his life. Current events, politics, religion, movies, television shows, literature- they discussed it all. She was well read and they often swapped books.
He loved reading her books as she did not treat them gently or carefully, something in which most people took pride. Hers were worn in and well loved. She highlighted the bits she enjoyed, in many different colors, underlined passages, leaving little notes and even questions in the margins.
As he read, he would jot her notes down into one of his many notebooks, making sure to discuss them when he returned the book, her eyes lighting up and hands flying excitedly as she shared her thoughts with him.
One morning, after he had returned a book, he helped her refill the spices and condiments. A waitress had called in sick the night before and as a result, Dana had to catch up on some extra work. He offered to help her, which meant he had her attention for even longer than usual.
They discussed the book as they refilled the sugar dispensers and then she told him about a holiday trip she had taken when she was younger.
If she had quizzed him later about what she had said, he would have been unable to tell her. His attention instead drawn to her expressions, the way she licked her lips, and the blue of her eyes.
Days and weeks of being around her, if he were asked to pinpoint when he fell for her, it would have been that moment as they refilled the sugar, the jukebox in the corner playing a collection of Elvis songs, and he listened to her sing along quietly with a smile.
Yes… he had fallen hard.
On a Monday morning in December, he looked around as he arrived and set up his work station, saying hello to the other employees, not seeing Dana walking through the diner. He had another of her books to return and discuss, if she had a spare moment, but she was not there.
Lucy, one of the other waitresses, came over bringing his coffee and a danish, smiling softly at him.
“Is Dana not here?” he asked her, knowing her scheduled shifts, and Lucy shook her head. “Oh. Is she okay?”
“She is. I think she’ll be here later, hon.” She smiled at him again and walked away, leaving him feeling confused and slightly worried.
He drank his coffee and ate his pastry, one eye on the door, until he became engrossed in his writing.
A couple of hours later, he stretched as he rose from his booth and brought his plate and cup to the counter. Setting it down, he glanced over at a little girl sitting on a bar stool by herself.
She had reddish brown hair in two long braids and she wore denim overalls over a long sleeved black shirt and pink boots with fuzzy gray tops.
She twisted the barstool back and forth, drinking milk as she looked at a book. He was not good with knowing children’s ages, but he assumed she was probably about six.
She looked up, catching his eye, and she stopped her movements. Taking the straw out of her mouth, she smiled at him, her blue eyes shining.
“Are you Fox?” she asked and he frowned.
“I… I am…”
“My mommy told me about you.”
“Your… who?”
“My mommy,” she said with a giggle, pointing across the diner to Dana who was speaking to Joe, the manager, and his frown deepened. He had not heard or seen her come in and he certainly did not know anything about her having a daughter.
“She’s your… mom?” he asked, looking back at her and the little girl nodded.
“Do you want me to move? My mommy said that you like to sit here sometimes.”
“What? No, you can stay. Could I sit here next to you?”
“Okay. But that stool doesn’t turn like this one,” she said, twisting the stool she sat on again. “I’ve tried all of them, but this one’s the best.”
“Why do you think I usually choose that one?” he asked as he sat beside her, trying to make sense of who she was and why he had never heard of her in all of the conversations he’d had with Dana.
“You like to spin the stool?” she asked him, drinking her milk again.
“Of course I do. I enjoy the squeak it makes,” he said and she giggled with a nod as the stool indeed did squeak.
“Ivy, don’t drink all of that milk. I have Manny making you some…” Dana stopped speaking as Fox turned his head to look at her. “Oh…” Her face dropped, as did her shoulders, and she sighed deeply.
“Mommy, Fox said I could stay here,” the little girl said to Dana and he nodded in the affirmative, wanting to reassure her.
“She was already there…” he said, smiling slightly, but Dana did not return it with one of her own.
“Dana, Ivy’s food is up,” Manny, the cook and other owner, called with a smile and Dana turned around. Walking to the counter, she lifted the plate with a thank you as she walked back to them.
“Honey, get your things and we’ll go sit in one of the back booths, okay? I’ll bring your food over.”
“Okay, Mommy.” She slid off the stool and picked up a pink backpack and teal colored puffy coat. Sliding the backpack on, she carried her coat and glass, walking to a booth near his own as Dana followed behind.
Confusion filled his mind as he followed them, watching her with the little girl as she set down her plate of food and brushed the loose strands of hair back with a smile. She said something to the girl and she nodded as she set her glass down and took off her backpack, putting it and the coat on the seat beside before sliding into the booth.
Kissing her head, Dana turned and walked toward him, her eyes downcast. As she reached him, she raised her eyes and sighed deeply.
“You have a lot of questions, I’m sure,” she said, glancing back at the little girl.
“Just one,” he said, smiling softly at her. “Did you say her name is Ivy?” She stared at him and he raised his eyebrows.
“Yeah,” she said, frowning at him. “You don’t have any other questions? Really?”
“You don’t owe me an explanation,” he said, shaking his head. “I’m… a patron of this diner and your life is your own.”
“A patron? I thought… I thought that we were friends?” she asked, looking down again before glancing at Ivy and then back at him, her eyes sad as she bit her lower lip.
“Yeah. I think we are too,” he agreed quietly and she closed her eyes for a second. When she opened them, they were full of tears.
“Joe, I need a few more minutes,” she called, her voice shaky, wiping at her eyes as Joe nodded with a smile.
“Take as long as you need, hon,” he said and she sniffed with a nod back at him.
“Can I buy you breakfast?” she asked Fox, biting her lip again and exhaling a breath through her nose.
“How about if I buy you breakfast? You look exhausted,” he said softly, taking in her rather disheveled appearance, especially her hair in its messy bun and the tired expression on her face. She stared at him with her eyes wide and he shook his head. “That sounded better and far less… insulting, in my head.” She laughed bitterly and sighed.
“I have a five year old daughter I care for on my own. I think I’ve been, and most likely appeared, exhausted for years.”
“No. I don’t think that’s true. Sit down and tell me whatever you want me to know about her, or anything else.”
She sighed again, sitting down beside Ivy with a nod. He sat opposite her and smiled at Ivy, who was eating pancakes and eggs.
“Mommy? Can I watch a movie?”
“Yes, baby. Can you get your headphones though, so it’s not loud for the other people?”
“Yes.”
She wiped her mouth across her sleeve and Dana groaned, reaching for a napkin as Ivy opened her backpack, taking out a tablet in a large case and her headphones; cushioned pink ones with rainbow cat ears. She plugged them in and turned on a movie, as she continued to eat.
“She’s cute,” Fox said, smiling at her as he watched her pause in her chewing to smile at something on the screen.
“Thank you,” Dana whispered, touching Ivy’s head and sighing as she looked at him. “I didn’t mention her to you because-”
“Dana, your life is your own. You owe me no information when it comes to anything personal,” he said softly, glancing at Ivy. “To be fair, I never asked if you had a child.”
“Why would you have?” she asked quietly with a sigh.
“Well, have you ever asked me that question?” he asked softly and she frowned for a second.
“Do… do you have children?”
“No,” he said, shaking his head. “There, now we know that detail about each other.” He smiled and she sighed again.
“This part is funny, Mommy,” Ivy giggled and Dana smiled, touching her head again.
“I moved here, we moved here, almost a year ago. I wanted a change and a chance to… grow up a bit I guess,” she said quietly. “Her father isn’t in the picture. We had our set of problems as a couple and most definitely should have split up before… well, before her, but then…” She looked at Ivy and smiled with a shake of her head.
“We tried to make it work, but he wasn’t… wasn’t what either of us needed. When Ivy was three months old, he left. He said he wasn’t ready, that he had his own plans and dreams and a baby… well that complicated those plans.” She shook her head again and exhaled heavily. “He left the state and I’ve not heard from him since.”
“Really?” Fox asked incredulously, his hands balling into fists.
“Yeah. I know we weren’t perfect together, but…” She breathed softly, running a finger across the tabletop. “Not sure what his “big plans” were, but my sister found him on Facebook recently and he has a wife, a toddler, and a baby on the way. Guess he was ready, just didn’t want that with us.” She sighed again and shook her head.
“Sounds like he was a real bastard,” he said quietly, feeling angry at any man who could just walk away from his child and forget all about her while he lived a different life.
“He didn’t start out like that… no, he kind of did but I… Yeah, it sure ended that way,” she said with a nod and a sigh.
“What does she know about him?” he asked, gesturing to Ivy and watching Dana’s face.
“Not much. She hasn’t asked about him. Not him anyway, but she knows she doesn’t have a dad the way some kids might. But, she doesn’t remember him at all and I don’t talk about him, so he’s like a… a nonperson to us. She doesn’t know a different life and she sees kids at school who have just a mom, or a dad, or two moms and two dads. Every family is different, I always tell her, and that’s what makes us special.” She shrugged and he nodded. Raising her eyes to his, she blinked back tears. “I didn’t tell you about her because… well, there’s pain in my past when it comes to-”
“Dana,” he interrupted her, wanting to touch her, but refraining from doing so. “Like I already said, you have every right to keep your life private. We barely know one another, aside from what we do know. It’s…” He shrugged and glanced at Ivy with a smile.
“I still feel like it was a big thing to omit.”
“How many siblings do I have?” he asked quietly.
“What?” she asked, frowning.
“How many?”
“I… I don’t know.”
“Where did I grow up?”
“I don’t know…”
“You see?” he asked kindly. “We’re… friends, but also… we’ve not divulged every detail about ourselves.”
“Yeah,” she whispered. “I suppose.”
Manny came over to the table and set down plates of food, though they had not yet ordered anything. He smiled with a nod and then walked away.
Pancakes, waffles, bacon and eggs, mashed potatoes, and chocolate pudding sat before them and Dana smiled as she pushed the pudding toward Ivy.
“Oh! Yum. Pudding! Thanks, Mommy,” she said, a bit too loudly and Dana laughed.
“You work days while she’s in school,” Fox stated and Dana nodded. “But today she’s not. She’s not sick. She doesn’t look it anyway and I can’t imagine you’d bring her here if she were.”
“No. She’s not sick.”
“But something happened.”
“You could say that,” she said, rubbing her hands across her face. “I got an email late last night that her school has had an outbreak of lice and is shutting down for the rest of the week.” She looked at him and sighed. “I woke her up last night, feeling as though I was covered in them and needing to check her head. I felt terrible as she kept crying and saying she wanted to sleep.” She shook her head and stared at him with tired eyes.
“She’s obviously okay. Both of you are.”
“Yes, but I still took nearly all of our clothing, towels, and linens to the laundromat and spent the last few hours washing them. We also saw a hairdresser friend of mine and she checked both of us and we’re fine, but…” She glanced at Ivy, who was paying attention to her movie, and then looked back at him. “It’s been a really long fucking day.”
He raised his eyebrows, surprised as he had never heard her swear. Nodding, he looked down at the food.
“Yeah… I think that pudding may have been for you,” he said and she laughed softly.
“The potatoes are,” she said. “I love mashed potatoes. It’s my comfort food.”
“You’ve had a bad day. You deserve all the potatoes.”
“Thank you. For listening. For understanding,” she said, smiling at him as he handed her the bowl of mashed potatoes.
“Of course,” he said, dishing out the plates of food, making sure she got most of it. “So, you’ve been up all night.”
“Pretty much,” she replied. “I knew she was in the clear, but I wasn’t sure about myself as I couldn’t check very easily. I showered, washed my hair twice, then put it up in a shower cap, bagged my clothes and hers, and stripped the sheets as she slept on the couch. I washed what I could in the laundry room of our apartment, but it wasn’t going to be enough and it would have taken too long to wash everything. I knew we were okay, but I also couldn’t stop scratching at my head and skin. I wasn’t going to take any precautions.”
“I completely understand.”
“Now, I have to work and I have no idea what to do with her while I do.”
“Take the day off, I’m sure Joe already told you you could.”
“He did, but I… need the money. I can’t miss a day.”
“You have to have sick days…”
“Yes, but I need to save them for when she’s actually sick.”
“I could…”
“No,” she said, her eyes hard.
“You didn’t let me finish,” he said softly. “I was going to say, I could watch her. Keep her here with me through the day.” Her expression changed, but she shook her head.
“No. I can’t ask you to do that.”
“Dana, I’m already here,” he said, touching her hand and smiling. “We’ll be right here, you do what you have to do, and you can check in on us whenever you want.”
“You have to write,” she said, turning her hand to hold his thumb, shaking her head. “I can’t ask-”
“You aren’t. I’m offering.” He squeezed her hand and she opened her mouth to say something, but was interrupted.
“Mommy, can I have some water?” Ivy asked, tapping on her arm. “I’m thirsty.”
“Yeah, I’ll be right back.” She let go of his hand and left the booth.
He glanced over at Ivy, watching her pause with a spoonful of pudding near her chocolate covered mouth, smiling and laughing before she ate the bite. He smiled at her as he shook his head.
Dana came back with a tray of drinks, water and orange juice for all of them and coffee for the two of them. She set it down and sat back in the booth with a sigh, sliding Ivy her glass of water.
“Be careful, okay? Two hands.”
“I got it, Mommy,” Ivy said, lifting the glass to her mouth and taking a long drink.
“Joe told me to go home and get everything sorted out and not worry about work today.”
“Good. That’s what you should do.”
“I hate leaving others in a lurch. And the money… I really need it, especially this time of year.”
“But…”
“I know. I need to take care of things at home. I have laundry to fold and put away, and the apartment to clean. I’m just so tired.”
“I can help you if you’d like-”
“Fox…”
“Dana…” he began again, clearing his throat, putting his hand up to ask her to listen. She sighed and nodded her head. “First of all, you know Joe, and from getting to know him myself, I know he won’t let you go the day without being paid. I’ve been coming here for two months and not once have you missed a shift. You’ve even covered for others when they’ve called out.”
“I know but-”
“Joe and Manny know your value. They know you have a situation that’s out of your hands and well… you should take the day.”
“I know,” she said with a glance at Ivy. “The tips I would get though, that’s what I rely on every day.”
“How much would you get in tips?” he asked and her eyes came back to look at him.
“Why are you asking me that?” she questioned him with a frown. “Fox, I don’t-”
“We’re friends right?”
“We… we are…”
“Friends help each other out.”
“But, I don’t-”
“Let me be your friend. Let me help you.”
She stared at him as he smiled and she opened and closed her mouth, frowning as she shook her head gently, but finally sighed with a curt nod.
“But I won’t take money. I don’t want… that won’t sit well with me.”
“That’s understandable,” he said, putting his hands up in surrender. “Let’s eat and then whatever you need help with, that doesn’t involve anything monetarily, I’m here for you.” He smiled and she sighed again as she nodded in acceptance. “Good. Now, eat your mashed potatoes and we’ll get going.”
“When you see all there is to do, you may regret offering your assistance.”
“Nah,” he said, reaching for the syrup and pouring some onto his pancakes. “I enjoy completing tasks.”
“Hmm,” she hummed disbelievingly, shaking her head slightly as she took a bite of potatoes.
He only smiled at her as he glanced at Ivy, already intrigued to learn more about her and the new side of Dana he had yet to meet.

HELLO I HAVE A PROMPT REQUEST 😬
Inukag, putting their arms around each other’s waists
Thankyouandgoodnight
Hey @mrfeenysmustache ! Thanks for your patience as I thought about how to do this one -- for some reason every time I opened this one I drew a total blank until, of all things, I was watching an episode of MASH where an visiting physician teaches (or trys to anyway) Hawkeye a traditional Swedish dance. Thank you Inga for the inspiration!
"Ouch!"
"Would you stop that?"
"Then stop stepping on me!"
"I didn't you just have giant feet that keep getting in my way!"
"I'm five-foot-two there is now way my feet are the problem."
"Five-foot-two is right; five feet on one side two on the other. HEY! There's no need to hit me you're doing enough damage already."
Kagome dropped her hands from Inuyasha's shoulders and growled in a tone that made the hairs on the back of Inuyasha's neck stand out. He would never tell her to her face, but Kagome's angry growl sounded exactly like an angry inuyoukai.
"This is stupid - I don't know why we're making ourselves miserable over such a dumb tradition." She stomped through the large empty space that was their living room, the furniture all pushed back against the wall and stacked haphazardly to give them as much clear floor space as possible to practice their wedding waltz. Kagome had been adamant from the day he proposed that she wanted a big, classic white wedding. She wanted the ballgown dress, she wanted the 12 person wedding party, she wanted a five tier cake - and she wanted a black tie reception complete with formal waltz as their first dance.
So far everything had gone surprisingly smoothly. They found a venue and a dress and bridesmaids (and a few borrowed male friends to balance out the numbers on both sides of the aisle). The cake was delicious and covered in several thousands calories worth of icing. But the course of true love never did run smooth.
Or dance, as the case may be.
Inuyasha flexed his toes inside his horrible leather dress shoes and sighed deeply. He walked across to his bride-to-be and placed a hand on her shoulder. "We don't have to do this, if this isn't any fun for you anymore then we can do something else."
Kagome stood up and thumped her head against his sternum, letting it rest there as she mumbled into his shirt. "I didn't think this would be so hard. We've been doing to much practicing and I just...suck at this."
Inuyasha looped his arms around her waist, and smiled into the crown of her head as she returned the embrace. He gently swayed side to side along with the music still playing and Kagome giggled for the first time in two hours and she fell into the rhythm with him. As long as neither of them actually had to life their feet and they could shuffle slowly about, they were having no trouble. But as soon as Kagome moved to take a full side step it was over.
She lost her balance and instinctively tightened her hold around Inuyasha's waist. He, unfortunately, lunged to grab at her with one hand still at her hip, effectively pushing her backwards instead of helping her. In a tangle of limbs they crashed to the carpet.
Instead of shouting or getting mad, Inuyasha started to laugh, howling at the tangled mess they'd become. As Kagome pouted and slowly worked to detach her engagement ring from Inuyasha's hair she made the executive decision that they would not be waltzing, but maybe do something safer-- like trapeze.

Fic: A Woman Scorned - Part 1
Pairing: Billy Russo x Reader
Words: ~2200 words.
Summary: You’ve been sleeping with Billy Russo for a few months now. Knowing his aversion to any kind of emotional commitments, you’re satisfied with your clandestine arrangement until you catch him having dinner with Dinah Madani one night. Then it finally dawns on you. It’s not that he doesn’t want to commit, he just doesn’t want to commit to *you*.
Billy may think he knows you, but he has no idea what he’s just lost...
~~~~~~
You met Billy Russo at an industry conference two years ago. While you didn’t know much about military security at that time, your specialty was online security and both of you ended up attending a lot of the same events. He was the most beautiful man you’d ever seen, magnetic and a total flirt, and it was obvious he was aware of his good looks and used it to his benefit. You didn’t sleep with him during the conference. Something told you his dance card was already full every night. So, instead, you exchanged contact information and left it at that.
 A year later you were hired as a consultant for one of Anvil’s direct competitors and moved to New York City. When Billy called you to meet for drinks, you knew exactly what he was up to. You were no fool. He wanted information on your employer and thought he could charm you into spilling secrets. You told him it wouldn’t work over a second drink, and he simply laughed.
 You didn’t fuck him until a month later. The official reason for the delay was conflicting schedules but mostly it was due to insecurity on your part. To the outside world you were attractive in the kind of way that snuck up on people. You weren’t the type to turn heads, like Billy was, and your fucked up childhood had ensured you didn’t let anyone in easily. It wasn’t until a pep talk from your best friend, Davina, about enjoying Billy Russo for what he was – a fun time and nothing more - did you finally decide to take the leap.
 Fucking Billy had been unlike anything you’d experienced before. You’d had sex before of course, but not the kind of sex that made you lose all of your inhibitions and scream and come for hours. Billy knew how to coax you out of your shell and demand things from him you’d never even knew you wanted. You fucked him in your apartment, his penthouse, the underground parking lot, in his car and that was all within the first week. He had opened up a whole new world for you and you were willing to try anything and do anything he wanted. After that first night together, all the walls you’d built around your heart collapsed. Your best friend warned you repeatedly that great sex made people confuse lust for love, that she was worried you were falling for Billy, but you told her you were an adult and could handle yourself.
 Of course that had been bullshit.
 It had been been almost a year now since you and Billy were sleeping together and you had no idea where you stood with him. You didn’t even know if he was fucking other women, though a part of you suspected he was. If he was with you two nights a week that left five other nights to be with someone else. It clawed at you, knowing you weren’t enough for him. It heightened all of your insecurities, made you believe that you were worthless and ugly just like your abusive father used to scream at you. Of course you’d never tell Billy that. The minute he suspected you were getting attached to him emotionally he’d bolt, he’d already warned you of that. So you kept your thoughts to yourself and let your pain eat away at your insides when he wasn’t with you.
 At least that had been the plan until you saw him on a date with Madani.
 You were at a restaurant with some of your coworkers, enjoying happy hour, when you got up to use the bathroom and spotted Billy sitting in the other corner of the room. The breath rushed out of your lungs, your knees felt weak. They were enraptured with each other, legs intertwined, heads close, a true couple. You knew who she was because he’d let it slip he’d been working with Homeland on something and, you being you, you’d looked her up. Her pictures didn’t do her justice, because she was stunning. And exactly the type of woman Billy would be proud to be seen with.
 After you and Billy started sleeping together, Billy rarely took you out. Sure you guys would go to some hole-in-the-wall places or fast food joints but never to fine restaurants, not like this one. You never complained because why waste time when you could be busy fucking his brains out? Except now that you saw him and Madani sitting only a few feet away from you, and he was proudly holding her hand and being openly affectionate, you realized it had all been by design. He never took you out because he was ashamed of you. If you had been prettier, thinner, sexier, taller – anything but what you already are – he’d want you as more than a fuck buddy. He’d want you as his girlfriend.
 It was a bitter pill to swallow but at least now you knew the truth and that meant you were back in control of your life.
 As much as it hurt, it felt good to know you were the ones making decisions about your future again and they didn’t revolve around Billy. No longer would you be obsessing over what he wanted, what he was doing, if he’d like a certain thing on you or not, if he was fucking someone else or not. You wouldn’t spend hours researching Billy like you did in the past and finding out things about him that he never knew you knew. No, now you were finally free.
 And it was time to move on.
 Tonight was the night of the fundraising gala. Your company had purchased a table and the CEO of your company had personally extended an invite for you to attend. Based on a conversation you had with Billy three weeks ago, you knew he would also be attending to represent Anvil. When you’d first broached the subject you’d hoped he’d asked you to attend as his date – but he hadn’t. At the time you’d reassured herself the reasons were practical. It would be weird for Billy to be sitting at a competitor’s table (if he went with you) and you would risk offending your boss if you sat at Billy’s. But now you knew the truth.
 So, tonight, you were dressed to the nines in a curve-hugging gold dress with a plunging neckline which emphasized all of your assets. Your heels, which cost more than the dress itself, were over five inches high and made you feel like an Amazonian goddess when you sauntered in them.
 When you walked into the ballroom with Davina in your arms that night, you felt confident in a way you hadn’t in a long time.
 The thing about you that a lot of people didn’t know was that you were fucking fantastic at owning a room – despite your insecurities. You may not be beautiful but you were charming. You were really great at getting strangers to open up, people were drawn to you. It was one of the reasons your CEO promoted you so quickly after a few months. Your job, initially at least, was meant to be a technical role but when you were invited to a party with potential clients you had schmoozed them so easily they had signed the contract within the week. And then you had impressed them with your actual technical skills which only cemented their positive impression of you.
 So, yeah, you were in your element and you were ready to charm.
 “What table are we?” Davina asked.
 “14,” you said. Of course your eyes were automatically drawn to Anvil’s table on the seating chart. 157. A safe distance from your table, which meant there was a good chance you two wouldn’t even be crossing paths in the grand ballroom. You didn’t know whether to be overjoyed or disappointed.
 A while later you were circulating around the north bar, chatting up with some potential clients that your boss had wanted you to pay particular attention to when you saw Dinah Madani. She was in one of those slinky, maroon satin dresses, her hair up, and you felt that surge of jealousy go through you again. She was probably here as Billy’s guest considering this wasn’t the kind of events Homeland agents typically attended.
 “Y/N!” You turned to find your boss waving you towards him.
 Glad for the distraction, you picked up two glasses of champagne from a nearby server and headed towards him, handing him his drink. Your boss was chatting to a group of people you vaguely recognized, but the smile on your face stiffened when you spotted Billy amongst them.
 Fuck. He looked good in a tux. His hair was slicked back, and you were struck with the sharp memory of fucking him in his car one night with your fingers roughly fisting his hair. God, you loved his hair, loved running your fingers through the silky strands.
 Billy’s eyebrow quirked up when he saw you and you wondered what he thought of you so dressed up. No. It didn’t matter what he thought of you. Fuck him, you reminded yourself.
 “Y/N is our new Executive Director,” your boss said, introducing you to the group. “Her division has shown a significant growth ever since she joined Valiant.”
 You smiled, shaking hands with everyone. When it was Billy’s turn, you reached out to clasp his hand, not betraying any emotion even though you felt an immediate charge upon touching him. He gave you an amused smile, like he was enjoying the charade.
 “Nice to meet you all,” you said. “And don’t listen to Roger. Valiant was doing fine on its own.”
 “But Y/N has definitely changed the way we do some of our regular operations. I didn’t realize how archaic this industry’s systems and processes were until she came along.”
 “Sounds like I may need to poach Y/N from Valiant,” Billy said with a smug smile, his eyes fixed on you.
 “Anvil couldn’t afford me,” you reciprocated with equal smugness.
 Roger laughed, patting your arm. “We’re not giving her up without a fight.”
 “Clearly,” Billy replied.
 The expression on Billy’s face was new to you, you had no idea what he was thinking but you also didn’t want to waste any more of your time obsessing over him.
 Roger leaned in closer, lowering his voice so others wouldn’t hear him. “Table 35. Those were the clients I told you about.” As you glanced over to the table he mentioned, your eyes met Billy’s. He was watching you intently, still with the unreadable mask on his face.
 Ignoring Billy, you flashed a confident smile up at Roger. “Don’t worry about it. It’s taken care of.”
 You turned back to the group, your gaze skipping past Billy’s. “It was a pleasure to meet you all. I hope you have a great evening.” Bidding everyone goodbye, you headed to Table 35.
 ***
An hour later you were on the terrace, enjoying the cold, crisp New York air that rattled your bone. You were exhausted. Networking took a lot out of you and now you just wanted to go home and soak in the tub. Davina, a natural extrovert, was still in the ballroom, flirting and socializing but you needed a few minutes of privacy so you had snuck outside to compose yourself.
 “Congratulations on the promotion.”
 Your jaw clenched as soon as you heard Billy’s voice from behind you. You turned around to look at him as he swaggered forward, closing the distance between the two of you.
 “You never told me,” he remarked.
 You shrugged your shoulders. “We didn’t tell each other a lot of things.”
 “I get the distinct feeling you’re pissed at me but I don’t know why. Care to fill me in?”
 “What reason would I have to be pissed at you?”
 “You tell me. I’ve called you-”
 “You’ve never called me,” you interjected.
 “Fine. Texted. Whatever.” Billy took a step closer, forcing you to look up at him. Even in your fucking stilettos, he towered over you. “You’ve been avoiding me for two weeks now. Why the ghosting?”
 “I just think it’s time I move on.”
 Oh, Billy didn’t like that. His eyes grew darker, so dark they were almost pitch-black. “Really? You’ve got the next one lined up already?”
 As much as you wanted to believe he was jealous, you knew that wasn’t the case. “We both know you don’t give a fuck about me so drop the fake jealousy bit.” You tried to walk past him but he grabbed your arm and pulled you close. You felt his angry breath skim over your skin as he glared down at you. “Let me go, Billy.”
 “Why?” he snarled. “So you can go fuck Roger?”
 “You really expect me to believe you’re jealous of me seeing someone else?” you snapped back. “Or is it because it’s Roger? He’s more successful than you, he’s your competitor, his company has been taking all the contracts you’ve been fighting for and now he’s got you beat in the one area you thought you excelled at. Fucking.” You angled forward on purpose, holding his gaze. “Here’s an idea. Why don’t you go fuck Roger and leave me out of it?” You smiled up at him. “Or does Madani not let you stray?”
 Understanding dawned on Billy’s face. “So that’s what this is about.”
Summary: You and Park Jimin have been rivals for as long as you’ve known one another; ever since he tripped you in the front row of your first dance convention. When you graduate from high school and enter Russet Ballet Academy, you tell yourself you’re leaving all past quarrels behind. The main problem with this though, is that your past seems determined not to leave you alone.
Worse still, the obstacles you face while out in the real world might prove more challenging than anything your enemy has to offer.
Tumblr media
Dr. Gonzalez’s assessment of your ankle turned out to be correct; by the end of the week, you were feeling much better. You had to give some of the credit to Jimin, who’d been like a hawk in his watchfulness all week. The second you landed a difficult jump, Jimin would pop up beside you like the worst kind of clickbait, scolding you for not marking your movements.
At first, it drove you crazy – it was like having your parents out on the dance floor. Each time you pliéd, Jimin would clench his jaw hard enough to crack walnuts. It got to the point though, where you began to find it amusing, pretending to do something full-out just to mess with him.
Jimin didn’t find this as amusing as you did.
The Monday following your injury, you returned to Dr. Gonzalez’s office for a check-up. After examining your ankle and a few routine tests, she nodded in satisfaction and declared you fit to dance. A massive weight lifted from your chest, you practically bounded upstairs and into ballet.
Mr. Vlad’s ballet class wasn’t the type of place people usually bounded to, so you drew several stares when you entered the room. Dropping your bag beside Noelle, you stood at the barre and began to shed your warm-ups.
“It feels so good to be back,” you groaned, lifting your leg.
Noelle grinned, mirroring your movement. “It’s good to have you back,” she agreed. “I felt like a worried mom all week, constantly watching out for your ankle. Now, I can finally be selfish again.”
You laughed. “Well, thank god for that.”
“Miss Y/L/N!” Smiling, Mr. Vlad came to a stop alongside you. “Good as new, I take it?” he said, glancing down.
“Yep,” you said, rolling your ankle in a circle to show. “Dr. Gonzalez cleared me to dance earlier this morning.”
“Good, good.” He nodded. “I’m glad to hear it. It’s always a shame to see talented dancers injured. Make sure you don’t jump back in too quickly, though. Take it easy.”
“Will do,” you said, somewhat dazed as he turned to walk away.
Noelle leaned forward. “Dude,” she whispered, staring at his back. “Mr. Vlad just called you a talented dancer. Mr. Vlad. Vlad Copson.”
“I know,” you whispered, trying to stifle a laugh. “Wow.”
It was a wow moment indeed, since before now you hadn’t been sure whether Mr. Vlad even liked you. He’d given you and Jimin a compliment a few weeks prior, but everything else you received from him was criticism. Despite knowing this to be his reputation as a teacher, you honestly had no idea where you stood with him at all.
Hearing him call you talented was enough for you to hope it would be a good day. Barre passed by quickly and, true to your word, you tried not to overdo things. Despite your initial positivity, it soon became apparent you’d fallen behind. By the time you finished barre and walked to the center, your earlier enthusiasm had somewhat waned.
Although you’d improved since the start of the year, taking a week off had put a damper on your progress. Even just seven days of marking was enough for you to feel lost while moving through the combinations. Luckily, Jimin was there to help you remember the steps.
‘Luckily, Jimin’ was never a phrase you thought you’d say and yet, here you were. Aligned by the same goal, Jimin had proven himself to be a useful partner. Nearly a month into your truce, things were going well between you. Steps came easier once you were certain he wouldn’t drop you on purpose.
Obviously, you still had work to do between you, but it was easier without constantly wondering what Jimin was thinking. Trust was tricky enough without years of rancor between you, but somehow you and Jimin were making this work.
Miss Britt had explained during your first week that pairings at Russet were random on purpose. It was one of the most valuable lessons your first year could teach you, she’d said – learning to trust someone you didn’t choose for yourself.
Oftentimes, your company or choreographer would pick your partner. Even if you didn’t like them as a person, you needed to learn to trust them as a dancer, which was something you had no experience in before. By this point though, you found you no longer harbored dislike for Jimin as a person or as a dancer.
Jimin helped you during the week, walking you through tricky steps you’d missed the week prior. He even stayed late one night to practice a lift without you even needing to ask. By the time Friday rolled around, you felt almost completely caught up in your classes.
Miss Britt’s class was quickly becoming a favorite. She was more modern than some of the other teachers, choreographing to contemporary music instead of the traditional classical. This alone was enough to make you ecstatic, but she also encouraged improvisation.
You supposed this was why Miss Britt had suggested you practice the fundamentals. It was impossible to learn the fun, partner lifts if you couldn’t even complete a pirouette.
Today’s combination was one of the hard ones – Miss Britt tended to do that on Fridays, adding more complicated moves as a way to end the week. This turned out to be both blessing and curse, since it was fun to branch out, but it came at a cost.
“And – from the top!” Miss Britt called from the front. “Sissonne, sissonne! Cabriole, and chassé – tour jeté! Plié! And rise – hold! Plié, battement and grand fouetté!”
Seokjin stood at her side, demonstrating the moves with grace and poise. Every now and again, Miss Britt would join in to show particularly tricky footwork.
By the time you executed the combination full out, you and Jimin were sweating, fingers slipping while you grabbed at each other’s hands. Grand fouettés – sometimes called Italian fouettés – were difficult enough without adding pointe shoes and a partner. In grand fouettés, the woman did a grand battement effacé (facing forward), swept her leg through first position while turning, only to end up facing the same way with her leg in attitude derriére (behind her, and bent). All of this, of course, occurred within two counts of eight.
Jimin helped you balance, although he needed to move fast to avoid getting kicked in the head by your leg. The combination moved across the floor, starting in one corner of the room and ending up in another. By the time you’d practiced the moves a few times, both of you were dripping sweat on the floor.
“Shit.” Gasping for air, Jimin lowered both hands to his knees. “Miss Britt isn’t taking things easy on us, huh?”
Silently, you shook your head no, as you fought to catch your breath.
“Alright!” Miss Britt clapped her hands together. “Line up in the corner and we’ll go two couples at a time. Sabrina, Paulo, Alex and Jasmine – you’re first.”
Sabrina and Paulo were practicing close by, dutifully finishing the steps of the combination. While you watched, you saw Sabrina wobble and Paulo’s hand slip from hers. Sabrina managed to keep her balance, but her timing was thrown, and she missed the last fouetté.
“Sabrina!” Miss Britt called out sharply. “Be sure to stay on the beat!”
Stricken, Sabrina’s head turned as she finished. Landing in fifth, she managed a nod before she turned to cross the room. Paulo followed suit, swallowing at the look of annoyance she shot him.
Once they were in the corner and ready to go, Miss Britt motioned the accompanist to play as she crossed her arms.
As the music began, the first group moved forward. This time, Sabrina got her timing right for the fouetté turns, but still didn’t seem happy. Finishing the combination, Sabrina struck her ending pose – only to exhale, expression dropping as soon as she stalked from the floor.
Miss Britt didn’t seem to notice, her attention already moved on to watch the next group. Nudging Jimin with your elbow, you indicated you both should move up in line. Noelle and Eamon were in the second group across the floor, so you two would be next, along with Irene and Brian.
Waiting to start, Jimin exhaled and rolled his neck. Glancing sideways, you were surprised to find you also felt nervous. This was a difficult combination, so you couldn’t expect to do things perfectly, but the fact that Sabrina had failed didn’t bode well for you at all.
“Next group!” Miss Britt called.
Breathing deeply, you placed your hand in Jimin’s and fell into tombé. Your first steps were in unison, feet skimming the floor while you traveled forward. Jimin’s hands gripped your waist, lifting you easily to set you back on the ground. Each step flowed to the next, barely allowing time to think as your limbs found each other.
Even the complicated footwork section was in tandem, Jimin’s plié matching yours when he lifted you overhead. The ending segment – a series of partnered jetés, culminating in a grand jeté – happened easily, making you feel as though you were floating on air. When you landed and struck your ending pose, your heart hammered against your ribcage.
“Very good, Y/N and Jimin!” Miss Britt smiled before she moved on.
Schooling your expression to stay calm, you felt almost giddy as you ran from center. Jimin was close behind, barely able to contain his excitement.
“Did you hear that?” you gasped, spinning to face him.
“A very good from Miss Britt.” Jimin wriggled both brows. “Might as well move us to the top of the class now.”
“Don’t get cocky,” you warned, though you laughed when he high-fived you.
Walking off to the side, you joined the rest of your classmates who were waiting in line. As you waited to reverse the combination on the left, you practiced the steps in your mind.
Miss Britt continued to yell corrections and when your turn finally came, you took a deep breath to relax. Emptying your mind, you forced yourself to focus only on the movement. For the first time since your arrival at Russet, the steps felt almost natural.
Partnering had been difficult for you to learn after so many years of solo competition. Unlearning your independence as a dancer was hard, but you finally felt as though you were making progress. When you and Jimin finished on the left side, you realized with some amazement Miss Britt hadn’t yelled out any suggestions.
As soon as everyone had gone, Miss Britt motioned for the pianist to stop and walked to the center.
“Good job, everyone,” she called. “Just a few notes today. Irene, be sure and keep your weight centered in attitude. Don’t rely on your partner to keep you steady. Louis, make sure you really push Ari across the floor. Her momentum should come from you, not just her legs. And Sabrina,” Miss Britt said as she turned.
Sabrina straightened, clearly expecting a big heaping of praise. Miss Britt always had something nice to say for her star pupil. It wasn’t bitterness which made you say this – Sabrina was just that good at ballet. As much as you disliked her as a person, you couldn’t deny Sabrina’s prowess as a dancer.
Miss Britt frowned. “Don’t step so far forward next time. Paulo had to rush to catch up, which is why your timing was off. And Y/N,” she said, moving on.
Sabrina froze, staring wide-eyed at Miss Britt’s back. The shock in her expression was clear and if Miss Britt hadn’t moved on to you, you would’ve relished for longer in Sabrina’s confusion.
“Excellent work.” Miss Britt smiled. “That was a beautiful combination. Have you been practicing with Jimin as I suggested, Y/N?”
Instantly, heat rose to your face.
“I, uh,” you stammered, searching for words. “I’ve been working with Sana Minatozaki, actually. She graduated last year from Russet?”
“Ah, Sana!” Miss Britt’s face lit up. “Did Seokjin introduce you?”
Seokjin nodded, giving you a thumbs up as soon as Miss Britt turned.
“Well, it was wonderful,” Miss Britt continued. “Much improved, both of you – keep it up. Jasmine,” she said, moving on. “You’re lowering your chin right before you turn.”
In the corner of your eyes, you saw Jimin glance in your direction, but chose instead to stare at the clock. Pretending as though the time needed your undivided attention, you managed to avoid him for the rest of class.
Across the floor leaps were always the last combination of class – they were considered the ‘fun’ part of ballet, so of course teachers chose to save them for the end. As you turned and jetéd across the floor, your stomach churned imagining what to say to Jimin.
Maybe you could pretend Miss Britt had been confused. You could say she mistook you for another student, or that you’d never considered asking Jimin for help – even as you thought this, you released a small sigh. You should just tell him the truth and get it over with. If Jimin had proven one thing to you over the past couple of weeks, it was that he wasn’t the person you’d always made him out to be.
Still, it would be humiliating for Jimin to know how close you’d been to being kicked out. Miss Britt had told you to seek help barely a week into classes and now, Jimin would know that.
A part of you hated this since that same part of you thought often about that one practice session. The night Jimin had stopped and said he loved watching you dance.
You still weren’t sure what to make of that night, but you couldn’t deny it was something you often returned to.
As soon as Miss Britt ended class, you made a beeline for your things and plopped down on the floor. Undoing your pointe shoes as fast as you could, you tossed these in your bag and pulled on some sweats. Throwing your bag over your shoulder, you garbled an excuse to Noelle about needing to go and frankly ran towards the hall.
Glancing over your shoulder, you checked to make sure the coast was clear – only to crash into Jimin as soon as you left the room.
“Whoa!” Jimin caught you by the arms. “Careful, Y/N. You’ll sprain your other ankle.”
“I didn’t sprain my ankle,” you huffed.
Arching a brow, Jimin continued to hold your arms. His dance bag was slung over a shoulder, sweatpants pulled on over his ballet clothes. Dimly, you realized he hadn’t had to take off any pointe shoes. Stupid male dancers and their stupid male benefits.
Behind Jimin, you saw Noelle exit the classroom. Tossing a beseeching glance in her direction, Noelle saw you and paused – only to wink and continue walking away. Aghast, you stared in shock at her back.
Traitor, you decided. She’d pay for that later.
“Can we talk over there?” Jimin nodded down the hall.
“I – sure,” you said, unable to think of an excuse. Why couldn’t you think of an excuse?
Releasing your arms, Jimin turned to leave and you followed. Once you were far enough away from class to not be overheard, he turned around. Coming to a stop, you fiddled with the strap of your bag pulled across your chest.
Oddly enough, Jimin seemed as nervous as you were. “What… was that?” he asked, glancing towards the ballet room.
“What was what?”
Jimin gave you a look. “That comment from Miss Britt. Were you going to ask me for help, or something?”
Wincing, you glanced away. Hearing Jimin speak brought back all the resentment you felt when Miss Britt first pulled you aside. You thought you’d grown since then – and maybe you had – but remembering that day still made your stomach sink. If there was one thing you hated, it was admitting you weren’t perfect.
“I – well, no,” you said, looking up.
Jimin’s expression remained unsure and after a moment, you sighed.
“Alright, yeah,” you said. “Kind off. Miss Britt… suggested I ask you for help at the start of the year.”
“Oh.” Jimin’s face was unreadable.
Someone laughed far off down the hall and another door banged open, a different ballet class letting out. Jimin glanced away, hesitating a moment before his gaze returned to yours.
“Want to get going?” Jimin offered. “The next class is starting, so Danley is going to get crowded.”
“Sure,” you said, following as Jimin turned around.
You were silent the entire trip down the hall and even outside, as you began to walk down the sidewalk. Jimin was correct; Danley Hall was crowded at this time of day. After Miss Britt’s classes on Fridays, you didn’t have any set schedule unless you chose to take an afternoon master class.
Jimin walked next to you on the sidewalk, brow furrowed and seemingly lost in thought. About a block away from Danley, he glanced in your direction.
“Why didn’t you ask me for help?” Jimin said.
Rolling your eyes, you hitched your bag higher. “Oh, come on,” you sighed, shooting him a look. “It wasn’t like we were on the best of terms. You wouldn’t have said yes.”
“Maybe I would’ve.”
“Be serious.”
“Maybe I would’ve!” he insisted, cracking a smile. “Look – you’re not the only one who needs extra practice. What did Miss Britt say you needed to work on?”
Falling silent, you stared straight ahead and considered what to reveal. The air around you was crisp, the sky blue overhead and the leaves orange against it – in other words, it was a perfect fall day. You hated to ruin something so wonderful with talk of improvement.
At long last, you sighed.
“Technique,” you admitted. “You know that my background isn’t as a ballerina. Miss Britt thought it would be a good idea for me to take lessons from someone strong in ballet.”
“Hm.” Jimin considered. “I guess that makes sense.”
“Hey!”
He looked your way in surprise. “What? You’re the one who said it was something you needed to work on!”
“I know,” you grumbled. “It just sucks hearing you say it.”
“What’s wrong with hearing me say it?”
“You know,” you said, gesturing vaguely. “You’re you. Park Jimin. Hearing you say it just reminds me of all the ways we’re different. All the ways you’re… better than I am.”
Jimin didn’t react in the way you expected. You thought maybe he’d deny it, or maybe even gloat, but instead he just frowned.
“Different doesn’t mean worse,” Jimin said slowly. “It just means… different. You need help with ballet technique? Well, I need help with performance.”
“You – what?” you said, caught off guard.
Jimin gave you a rueful smile. “I kind of wish you’d said something sooner. I got feedback last month that I needed to work on emoting. Apparently, my technique is good, but I forget what to do with my face in difficult combinations.”
“Really?” you blinked, somewhat amazed. “I’ve always thought you were good at that.”
“Well, I’ve always thought you had great technique.”
“Was that... an actual compliment, Park?”
“Don’t act so surprised.” Jimin snorted. “Most people think I’m a really nice guy.”
“Yeah, well. Most people haven’t had you tell them to break a leg and mean it.”
“I didn’t mean it.” Jimin’s lip twitched. “Most of the time, anyways.”
“Aha!” you said, leveling a finger in his direction. “So, you admit it. You meant it some of the time.”
Jimin shrugged. “What can I say? I wanted to win. Sometimes it felt like… I don’t know, sometimes it felt like you were the only thing pushing me.” He paused, then continued, “There were some days things were so bad, I just wanted to quit. I wanted to give up, but then I’d think about you. I’d think about our bet, our next competition and… I’d keep going,” he said, finishing quietly.
You remained silent for a moment, allowing this to sink in.
Deep down, you understood what Jimin meant. Dance was difficult; that much was obvious from your first semester at Russet. It was hard to find the drive to keep going. You’d be lying if you said you hadn’t sometimes felt the same way. There had been weekends in high school you just wanted to be a normal student and hang out at the mall – but then you’d remember Jimin’s maddening smirk when he won and force yourself to work harder.
“I guess fear is a great motivator,” you said softly.
Jimin hesitated, then nodded. “Don’t get me wrong. It’s not like you were the only reason I danced. It’s just… on some days, you were that push.”
Again, you knew what he meant. The mental, physical and emotional exhaustion of dance could eat at a person until there was nothing left. An iron-clad will only got you so far – on some days, you just needed something more, something external. That push.
“I get it,” you said, glancing his way. “I felt that way sometimes about you, too.”
Jimin straightened. “Really?”
“Yeah.” After a moment, you shook your head. “But seriously – would you be interested?”
“Interested in what?”
“In helping me practice,” you said before you could talk yourself out of it.
The words hung in the air between you, Jimin blinking while he considered your proposition.
Immediately, you wondered if you’d made a mistake. Sabrina’s easy dismissal came to mind, but you tried not to jump to any negative conclusions. For all the difficulties you’d had in your past, Jimin hadn’t done anything detrimental to you in nearly a month.
At some point, you needed to learn to move on.
“Does that mean you’ll help me, too?” Jimin glanced hopefully sideways. “I wasn’t kidding about the feedback I got. I’ve been trying to find someone to teach me for weeks.”
“Deal,” you said, offering him a smile.
Jimin nodded, digging around in his pocket for his cell phone. “What’s your number?” he said, glancing up. “I can check the practice room schedule and let you know what’s available.”
Rattling off your information, you waited for Jimin to send you a text. When he did, you pulled out your phone and saved his information.
“Cool.” Jimin shoved his phone back in his pocket. “I guess I’ll see you around, then. What’re you doing tonight?”
Normally on Fridays, you’d take one of the available master classes, but part of your new deal with Finn had been to see each other at least once a week. Tonight, you were heading to a club with Finn and his friends despite having ballet tomorrow. This had been a compromise on your end, which was something you realized you hadn’t done much of.
“I’m going out,” you said with a shrug. “What about you?”
“Before Mr. Vlad’s ballet class?” Jimin raised a brow. “Brave of you, Y/N. I’m probably just going to read, go to bed early. Real wild stuff.”
Adjusting your bag, you laughed and turned away. “Brave or stupid?” you called as you climbed the steps. “Don’t knock yourself, though. Your night sounds pretty great to me. Self-care and all that.”
“Yeah, sure.” Jimin laughed. “Have fun at your thing. See you tomorrow, Y/N!”
When you reached the top of the stairs, you turned and saw him wave goodbye. Returning the gesture, you pulled your key from your pocket and let yourself in. As soon as the door swung shut, leaving you in darkness, you realized Jimin was saved in your phone.
After a moment of pause, you continued your walk down the hall. If you’d told yourself one year ago that this would happen, you would’ve assumed it to be a prank or a joke.
It only went to show how easily people changed.
Tumblr media
Except for people in clubs, it seemed.
Seated in a back booth of Excelsior nightclub, you drummed a hand on your knee and gazed around the warehouse. A strobe-lit dance floor lay directly before you, a DJ booth situated on a table several feet above the dancers.
Sweaty, half-naked bodies writhed to the beat of deafening music. Watching this from afar, you couldn’t help but wince. It wasn’t that you hated dancing – obviously, not. It was just this form of dancing which always confused you. There was no intimacy to it, no emotion, and no connection to gain from grinding your ass on someone’s crotch.
Most men didn’t bother learning to dance, anyways. Most were content just to sway side to side, watching their woman do all the work. Finn was amongst this crowd, but you couldn’t really blame him for that – the man truly had no rhythm. This led to you oftentimes being bored on the dance floor; there was only so much you could grind with a stationary being.
Even the people who went to these clubs were annoying. Eager, college freshman waiting to try out their new fake IDs. Tipsy sorority girls at the bar, sipping on cranberry vodkas and scanning the room for a partner. Around the edges of the dance floor lurked creepy men, attempting to grab on before their faces were seen.
You hated all of it, but you especially hated it sober. Had you been drunk, maybe you would’ve found the noise and crowd to be tolerable. As it was though, you were completely sober and found everything around you to be incessantly annoying.
Finn and his friends had pre-gamed before your arrival at his dorm. By the time you reached them, Finn was already three beers deep, red-faced and tipsy when he threw open the door.
“Y/N!” he had cheered, pulling you in for a hug.
You’d already forgotten several of his friends’ names by now, although this wasn’t entirely due to your faulty memory. Half kept calling one another by nicknames, making it difficult for you to keep up with their discourse.
Compared to the other girls in the party, you found yourself to be severely underdressed. They all were wearing tight body-con dresses and stilettoed heels. You, on the other hand, had thrown a cardigan over your tank top before you left in case it was cold.
The look on the other girls’ faces when you entered continued to burn uncomfortably in your mind. They’d looked at each other over the rims of their drinks, clearly unimpressed. Their meaning had been clear enough. This was Finn’s girlfriend?
Usually, you didn’t care what other people thought. As Jimin had pointed out, you weren’t the type who acted insecure. In that moment though, surrounded by Finn’s inner circle and feeling entirely out of place, you’d had a brief lapse of inadequacy.
Not being able to drink had solidified this wedge between you. Friendships were often forged in the throes of drunken adversity – your sobriety placed you firmly on the outside.
To his credit, Finn did his best to include you. He’d stayed by your side the entire evening, pulling you into games and introducing you to everyone in the room as his girlfriend. It was physically impossible for him to be everywhere at once though, so there were some unavoidable moments when you were left alone.
The pregame had started nearly four hours previous – sometime around midnight, you’d traveled downtown to the club and now the time was close to 1:00 AM. You kept glancing at your watch, wondering with increasing anxiety when you would leave. The group showed no signs of slowing down and your ballet class started at 8:00 AM the next morning.
You probably should’ve discussed this with Finn earlier, but he’d just been so happy to know you were coming. You hadn’t wanted to throw a wrench in this excitement by demanding he make a schedule.
Toying with the rim of your water, you glanced over at Finn and realized he didn’t seem bored. Ben was seated on his other side, a guy named Rico across the table and two of the blondes were sandwiched on either side.
The rest of Finn’s group were already on the dance floor, having found suitable partners soon after arrival. Two of his friends were currently sucking face by the DJ booth, and you’d seen another two earlier try and sneak towards the bathrooms.
Rico snorted, which prompted laughter from the rest of them. You didn’t see what had been so funny about Ben’s joke – it had seemed kind of demeaning towards women – but the two blondes at the table didn’t seem to mind. You tried not to think less of them for that, lips tightening as you looked away.
Given how stifling the club was, you’d removed your cardigan soon after arrival and tied it around your waist. The air felt sticky on your skin, heavy with the musk of so many people. Finn had smiled when you did this, slipping an arm around your waist to pull you closer. It’d been a sweet gesture at the time, but now the warehouse was boiling and you felt dangerously close to overheating.
As the music switched to a new song, one of the girls across the table gasped and jumped to her feet.
“This is my song,” she said, clapping both hands. “Come on, guys – let’s dance!”
Grabbing her friend and Rico, she pulled them onto the dance floor. Ben downed his drink and joined them, so Finn moved to stand.
“You in?” he said with a grin.
Hesitant, you glanced around. “Can we sit for a while?” you yelled, fighting to be heard over the music. “I’m kind of tired after today.”
“You sure?” Finn called back, also fighting to be heard. He frowned. “Come on, Y/N. Just one dance!”
The rest of the group proceeded to enter the dance floor, hands up while they sandwiched themselves between other people. The sight looked frankly nauseating, but you caught the look of open desire on Finn’s expression.
Knowing he wanted to join them, you pushed aside a sigh and stood. “Okay,” you said, slipping your hand into his. “One dance.”
Finn instantly brightened, tugging you along towards his friends. Shoving your way through the crowd, you tried your best not to breathe through your nose. Slightly claustrophobic at the best of times, clubs had the ability to become your worst nightmare. Especially when everyone was drunk except for you; it made you feel even less in control.
Turning around, Finn lifted your arms and placed them on his shoulders. “See?” he said, sliding closer. “This is fun, right?”
Tilting your head upwards, you nodded and concentrated solely on him. Usually, you found Finn’s touch soothing, but tonight his grip felt too hot and people kept bumping into you from behind. All you could think about was how badly you wanted to leave. It had been such a long day of dance and you needed to wake up early tomorrow.
Pressing yourself closer, you tried to lose yourself in Finn’s normally clean scent. Tonight though, he smelled like sweat and alcohol, and so you released a sigh.
Hearing this, you felt Finn’s arms tense around you. Lowering his lips, he brushed them to your ear. “You’re not having fun, are you?”
Stricken, you looked up. “No – no! I am.”
Finn gave you a look.
“Alright, fine,” you admitted. “I’m just… tired, Finn. I didn’t know we’d be out so late.”
Rather than apologize or offer an explanation, Finn tensed a bit more. You knew from his face he was drunk; you’d known this objectively, given all the beer he consumed. When Finn drank though, he tended to resort to stubbornness. Seeing his expression harden, your heart slowly sank.
“You didn’t think we’d be out late at a club?” he asked you, brows raised.
“I thought we’d pregame, head to the club and then leave,” you said, somewhat defensive. “How long can you dance with the same, sweaty bodies?”
Finn’s jaw clenched and he looked away. “Don’t you mean – how long can you dance with me?”
Eyes widening, you pulled away.
“What? No! Finn, what are you even saying?”
Although his hands remained on your waist, his grip wasn’t gentle. Finn’s expression stayed tight, looking over your shoulder in order to avoid your gaze.
“You love to dance,” he said slowly. “So, what you’re saying is you don’t want to dance with me.”
“Finn.” You stared at him in amazement. “That’s not what I’m saying. I’m just tired – that’s all! I had dance early today, I have dance early tomorrow. Can’t we go and grab food somewhere? Just the two of us?”
Finn exhaled and it seemed as though he might acquiesce – but then he exhaled and returned to you.
His gaze seemed clouded, and you wondered in alarm how much Finn had drank. You didn’t know how much he’d had to pregame and found yourself wondering if he might throw up. Finn had a very thin line between tipsy and puking.
“Why don’t you like my friends?” he demanded, hurt in his gaze.
Taken aback, you could only stare. “I – what?”
“See?” Finn looked away. “You didn’t even deny it.”
“No, I – you just took me by surprise,” you said, reeling a little. “Your friends are fine, Finn. They’re just not my friends. I don’t know them very well.”
“Well… alright,” he said, slightly chastised.
Unsure where this was coming from, you stood there a moment and let everything sink in. Finn wasn’t a yeller – he still wasn’t really yelling – but something was clearly bothering him. Maybe it was the dance club around you, but you had a feeling it wasn’t just that.
“What’s this really about?” you said, having to yell in order to be heard over the music.
Finn shrugged. “Nothing.”
“Finn.”
“Nothing!”
“Why don’t we go somewhere so we can talk,” you said, stepping back. “My head’s starting to hurt, anyways. We can go –”
“No,” Finn said abruptly, cutting you off. “I don’t want to leave.”
Your eyes widened in amazement. “No?”
Finn met your gaze. “You said this was our night, Y/N,” he said, stepping closer. “I haven’t seen you all week and you promised we’d go out together tonight. This is what being out looks like, Y/N!” he said, sweeping an arm. “Look around!”
“I – okay,” you said, baffled. “But I have class in the morning.”
“You always have class the next morning.”
“Because I do!”
Dropping both arms, Finn took a step backwards. His expression hardened a little, but beneath all that exterior you saw an undercurrent of hurt.
Lifting a hand, you rubbed at your temples. You hadn’t been lying when you said you felt a headache coming on. This was the same argument you’d had weeks ago, but you thought that had been settled. A few weeks prior, you wouldn’t have come out to the club at all but now here you were, nearing 1:00 AM.
“Nothing’s changed, has it?” Finn asked, his voice louder than normal. “You still don’t want to be here, do you?”
“Want to be here?” you blurted. “I mean, no – not really, Finn! I wanted to spend time with you and instead, here we are. Clubs kind of suck!”
“Well, sorry the things I want to do aren’t fun enough for you.”
“Do you seriously want to be here?” you asked in disbelief. “You want to be sweat on by strangers while drinking a watered-down rum and coke at 1:00 in the morning?”
“Yeah, kind of!” Finn huffed. “Sorry if my interests aren’t high-brow enough for you, or whatever.”
“That’s not what I meant,” you groaned.
“Well, that’s what you said.” Shaking his head, Finn glanced away. “Fine. You know what? If you want to leave so badly, then go.”
“Well, I don’t want us to leave if –”
“Not us,” he corrected, returning his gaze to yours. “You. You can go if you want Y/N, but I’m staying.”
Before you could respond, Finn spun on his heel and shoved into the crowd.
You stared after him in shock, jaw dropping as he disappeared between people. Before you could run after, someone stumbled into you hard from behind. Cold soda and ice poured down your back, making you yelp as you jumped.
Nearly slipping on liquid, you spun around – only to realize your perpetrator was wasted. The girl giggled, then hiccupped, not realizing her drink was empty as she raised it.
“Sorry,” she slurred, blind to your distress.
Rolling your eyes, you stalked past her. Yelling at someone that drunk would offer no sense of retribution.
Scanning the crowd, you searched for Finn’s clothing but saw nothing. He’d been wearing a dark t-shirt and jeans, so he unfortunately blended easily into the crowd. After tapping several strangers on the shoulder and in turn, getting hit on by several strangers – probably due to your soaked, see-through tank top – you gave up and walked towards the edge of the dance floor.
Vision starting to blur, you yanked out your cell phone and swiped up. Your fingers hovered over the call button a few times before you gave up and shoved your phone in your bag. The logical thing to do would’ve been to find Finn, or to find one of Finn’s friends and convince them to leave but for some reason, you just couldn’t.
The idea of seeing Finn right now made you furious. He’d been a jerk and you knew if you saw him, you’d only end up saying things you’d regret. Instead, you clutched your bag tighter and spun towards the front.
As you passed by the coat check, you slowed enough to notice the line outside. People stretched down the block – if you left the club now, there’d be no getting back in. Turning around, you once again searched the crowd.
The booth you’d sat in wasn’t far away, but it remained empty, all of Finn’s friends still out on the dance floor. Had you seen Finn at that point – had you seen anyone familiar – you might have decided to stay, but as it was, you saw no one. Finn hadn’t run after you, he hadn’t called and he hadn’t sent a text. Clearly, he didn’t care what happened to you tonight.
Buoyed by this knowledge, you gritted your teeth and walked out the door.
As soon as you stepped outside, the air dropped ten degrees. Shivering a little, you pulled out your phone and checked the Uber app. The moment you saw the surcharge, you winced. The cost for a cab back to Russet was three times the normal price. If you had to pay that, you’d be screwed.
Exiting Uber, you opened the train schedule and again checked the time. When you saw 1:15 AM, you groaned. All trains in this neighborhood stopped running at 1:00 AM. This was why you’d planned on splitting an Uber home with all of Finn’s friends.
“Hey, you! Princess!”
Head jerking upwards, you found an unfamiliar guy leering at you from line. Glancing over your shoulder, you realized he was talking to you.
“Yeah, you!” he said, hanging over the ropes. “Want to come in the club with us, princess?”
Immediately, you wrinkled your nose. “Why would I want to go back in the club?” you responded. “Didn’t you just see me leave?”
His smile dropped. “Damn, I was just asking. No need to be rude!”
Rolling your eyes, you stuck your middle finger up in the air as you walked away.
“Whatever, bitch!”
Fighting back a shiver, you continued to walk until you were halfway down the block. It was quieter there, but that wasn’t always a good thing. Glancing around, you saw several alleys and tried to place yourself strategically away from the shadows. You hated going to parts of town you didn’t know, especially at night and especially alone.
Suddenly, your rash decision to leave the club struck you as foolish. Opening your phone, you pulled up Finn’s number and pressed call. Screw your dumb pride – you’d forget all about the fight if he’d come stand outside. Finn may have been drunk, but he wasn’t an asshole. You knew if Finn knew your situation, he’d immediately leave the club.
His phone went straight to voicemail.
Blood turning cold, you stared straight ahead for a moment. Hand shaking, you pulled your phone away and stared at the screen. Finn’s outgoing message continued to jabber, but to you the audio seemed almost blurred.
Trying his number again, you once more reached voicemail. At this point, you began to see red. No matter how annoyed he’d been at you, Finn had absolutely no reason to turn off his cell phone. And yet, it was the only explanation.
Spinning around on your heel, you marched back up the block and to the front of the line. Tapping the bouncer on the shoulder, you waited until he turned around.
“Yeah, hi,” you said, not bothering with a preamble. “I need to get in.”
The man gave you a strange look. “Huh?”
“To the club,” you said, jerking your chin. “I need to get back inside.”
“Uh, sure. You and the rest of the line.”
“No, you don’t understand,” you said, crossing both arms over your chest. You were just now remembering the spilled drink from earlier. “I was in there earlier. Look,” you said, showing the stamp on your wrist. “You must’ve seen me exit a few minutes ago. Just let me back in!”
“No can do, sweetheart.” He shook his head. “Rules are rules. When you left, we let someone else in. The club’s already at capacity.”
Stomach sinking, you stared at him for a moment, but he refused to budge. Glancing over his shoulder, you could see the dance floor in the distance, strobe lights flashing and bass thumping. Before you could try anything else, the leering guy from the line reached the front.
Seeing you, he did a double take. “Princess!” he said, slurring a bit. “Did you change your mind? You want to come party? I’ll forgive you if you give me somethin’ in return…”
Teeth gritted, you immediately turned and walked away. The guy continued to call after you, so you sped up your pace to put distance between you. Fighting another chill, you forced yourself to keep walking and not turn around.
In one hand, your thumb hovered over the emergency button on your phone. If the guy broke from the line, you weren’t above calling the cops. Finally, both his shouts and the sound of the club faded away.
Paused on the sidewalk, you realized you were in the same place as before. Knowing this was a bad situation, you reluctantly opened the Uber app once again. Screw the cost – better to be in debt than abducted from an alley.
As soon as you opened the app, you saw the surcharge remained at 3x and the wait time had risen to fifty minutes.
“Oh, hell no,” you groaned, closing the app.
Staring at the street, you went through your mental checklist of options again.
The train was a no, as was Uber – you could walk and find a cab, but this was an unfamiliar part of the city and you didn’t like those odds. You had none of Finn’s friends’ numbers and Noelle was likely asleep. She didn’t have a car to come get you, anyways.
Still, she could probably figure out a way to find you if you asked. Sighing, you thumbed through your contacts until you found the right number. It took you a long moment before you forced yourself to press call.
Lifting the phone to your ear, you hugged yourself with one arm while you waited. When the person on the other end answered, you squeezed your eyes shut.
“Hey,” you sighed. “It’s me. Can you… come pick me up?”
"What the fuck is this?!" you asked through gritted teeth, throwing the freshly printed photos at San's chest.
Your husband didn't have to look at them to know what you were talking about; his men had already reported to him that you watched the entire recording of him seducing his... target.
"Babe—"
"No, San!" you yelled, cutting him off. "This is the fifth fucking time!"
"But the other one time wasn't about this."
"The other three, now four times were!" he was really getting on your nerves.
"Why are you overreacting?" he questioned with a sigh, pinching the bridge of his nose. "Y/N, you knew I had no choice."
You closed your eyes and took a deep breath, trying to control your anger. "I understand that you had to seduce her. I know that it's your job," you tried to say calmly, but your voice was rising. "What I don't understand is why you let her slip her fucking hand into your pants after you got the damn information that you wanted!"
San visibly gulped; he didn't expect you to be this angry. He thought he was well prepared to face you after mentally forming the situation in his head. He knew you'd be pissed, but not to this extent.
"I pushed her away though," he mumbled, running a hand through his hair.
"Yeah, after like, five minutes," you retort. "And the worst part was that you were clearly enjoying yourself in those five minutes! Do you know her or something?"
San sighed deeply, ignoring the question. "Babe, look, I'm sorry," he apologized, not sure about what else he could say to calm you down. Your husband took your hand in his. "I won't do it again, I promise."
You immediately ripped your hand away from his, rolling your eyes. "That's what you always say, San." He took a deep breath; you were testing his patience and he didn't like people doing that.
"San," you start, "How would you feel if you saw a guy kissing me and I get carried away and let him touch me?"
That struck him. Hard. He would hate it, obviously. San wouldn't even hesitate to put a bullet through the man's head if he touched you in any way.
San's silence gave you the answer. "That's what I thought," you snorted.
"Y/N, I'm sorry," San apologized again. "But I still had to do it and you know that."
"Whatever," you mumbled and turned around, heading to your room; he still didn't understand just how much it hurt you. It was already worse enough that you had to witness him kiss and touch all those women. But witnessing San let another woman touch him in the place where only you're allowed to, not only pissed you off, but also hurt you deeply. As the seducer of the mafia gang, he was literally trained to not get carried away; his only job was to get whatever information was needed. San was a very, very skilled seducer and you knew that damn well. Although he did get carried away a few times, he never let his targets touch him. So you couldn't understand why he let that happen now. You texted Yunho (your bestfriend and San's close friend) to ask about that woman, knowing that he would never lie to you.
Your anger increased when Yunho replied: "Oh, she hooked up with San a couple of times back in high school." You snorted in annoyance; so he let her touch him just because he knew her?
Your thoughts were interrupted by your phone's notification going off. Your friends were planning to go clubbing tonight as it was a Saturday. You were going to decline, knowing that San wouldn't let you go if he wasn't with you, but you decided against it; you had a plan in mind and you knew it would work.
You ignored San the entire afternoon. He tried to talk to you but you didn't even spare him a glance. He sighed, leaving you alone to cool down.
-
"Where are you going?" San asked, looking at you from head to toe, while your four year old daughter, Minhee, played with some toy aeroplanes.
"Clubbing," you answered without looking at him.
"You're not going anywhere," San said through gritted teeth. "Especially not wearing that." You were wearing denim shorts and a black lace bralette that showed off your cleavage more than you'd usually prefer. You purposely chose this outfit, of course, and he knew that.
"You don't get to decide where I go and what I wear," you stated. You walked over to your daughter, placing a kiss on her head. "Minnie," you called her by her nickname. "Mommy will be back soon, okay?" you said to your little angel before walking out the door.
-
"Y/N! You finally came!" one of your friends yelled, already drunk. She takes your hand and drags you through the crowd of people to get to the bar on the other side. "Three tequila shots for my friend here!"
A while later, you noticed Wooyoung and Mingi at the entrance of the club; you knew San would end up here as soon as he asks Seonghwa or Hongjoong to look after your daughter for the night.
And you were right.
San entered the club, dressed in all black, looking fucking hot. You wanted to go up to him and ask him to fuck you till you see stars; however, you were still pissed and had a plan to execute.
You quickly downed your shots and pulled your friend to join your other friends who were dancing. You danced with them until one of your friends introduced you to some random guys. One of the guys, who you found really good looking, started to dance with you. You noticed San sitting on a barstool, watching everything. At that moment, the guy you were dancing with put his hands on your waist, pulling you close to him, making San nearly break the glass he was holding. Perfect. Your plan was working.
When you glanced at where San was seated, he wasn't there anymore. You glanced around, searching for him until you felt a hand wrap around your wrist, dragging you away.
San dragged you downstairs where there were private rooms especially for him and his gang members as they owned this club. He took you to the room belonging to him, locking the door behind him.
"What the fuck were you doing?! How could you let him even lay a finger on you?!" your husband snarled through gritted teeth.
You snorted. "All he did was put his hands on my waist. At least he didn't slip them into my pants and touch me."
San now understood exactly why you did that; you were giving him a taste of his own medicine.
You moved to sit on the sofa, your legs starting to hurt from dancing so much. San kneeled down in front of you, placing his hands on the bare skin of your thigh. "Babe, I'm sorry. I'm an asshole, I know. But please understand that chick meant nothing to me. I didn't even know her."
You pushed his hands away from you. "Don't lie to me."
"I'm not lying," he lied.
"You hooked up with her in high school," you deadpanned.
"Fuck," he muttered under his breath. He just fucked up again. "Y/N, I didn't mean to—"
You stood up from the couch. "No, fuck you, I'm done with you and your fucking bullshit," you snarled angrily, cutting him off, before making your way back to your friends.
Tumblr media
"They might take this route instead, we can't predict what they'll do," Jongho said while moving around the meeting room; he was in charge of today's meeting on some mafia gang who had tried to hack into your gang's system to get information on your international drug deals.
During the meeting, your daughter's nanny called you. You declined the call, sending her a text that you were in a meeting. She called again and you ignored it, thinking she wouldn't have seen your message. When she called for the third time, you excused yourself from the meeting.
"I'm in a meeting, Jina, what is—"
"Mrs. Choi," she sobbed. "T-They took Minnie..."
"What?! Who?!" you felt your stomach churn uneasily.
"I-I don't know," Jina cried, "They beat me up at the park till I passed out and t-took her away. They said they would c-contact you."
"Where are you?" you asked.
"At a nearby hospital," she said. "An old couple brought me here."
"I'll be there in five," you said and hung up. You were just about to enter the meeting room, but an unknown number called you. You picked up, assuming it was your daughter's kidnappers since you never got calls from unknown numbers.
"You have a beautiful daughter, Choi Y/N," the man said. "I bet she would look even better with a slit throat, yeah?"
"Who are you? What do you want?" you asked, voice laced with venom.
The man chuckled. "It's simple, your fucking gang has to pay for my loss."
"Just tell me what the fuck you want!"
"Fifteen billion won in cash," he said. "That's the amount I lost because of you motherfuckers. Now listen to me carefully if you don't want your precious child dead. You aren't going to tell anyone about this. Not a word to your boss, Kim Hongjoong. Not a word to your pathetic husband, Choi San. I have eyes watching you, so don't try to act smart. I know you're having a meeting right now about a gang who tried to hack into your system." your eyes widened; how the fuck does this guy know? "I'm giving you three hours," he continued. "If you don't get the money within that time, I'll kill your daughter. Anyway, you'll find a black van waiting for you outside the bank. Your time starts now, Mrs. Choi. Tick tock, tick tock," he chuckled before hanging up.
"Fuck!" you yelled, tears spilling from your eyes. You ran your hand through your hair, trying to calm down; you felt like breaking down but you had to stay strong for your daughter. You wiped your tears before making your way back to the meeting room.
"I'm sorry, I'm feeling quite unwell," you mumbled, quickly collecting your stuff. "Please continue without me."
"Y/N, should I take you home?" San asked; you both still haven't made up from the fight you had a week ago. He tried to talk to you a few days ago, but it resulted in a bigger fight.
"No!" you half-yelled in frustration, startling some of the people in the room. "I'm fine," you said in a softer tone. You quickly left before San could follow you.
-
"Ah, Mrs. Choi, how can I help you?" the bank manager asked, taking a seat across you.
"I need fifteen billion won in cash," you stated, stunning the manager.
"Ma'am, that is a very large amount so cash isn't the best—"
"I need it in cash. It's really urgent," you said in an annoyed tone.
He gulped and nodded. "Please give me your national ID card."
You handed it to him, fiddling with your fingers while he entered your details into the computer system.
"You have a joint account with your husband, Choi San, correct?"
"Yes."
"Ma'am, we will need Mr. Choi's confirmation as he is the primary account holder."
You mentally cursed. "That won't be necessary," you stated, trying to control your anger.
The manager sighed. "All right, please give me a moment," he said before leaving the room.
You groaned in frustration, putting your head in your heads. You couldn't imagine what your little daughter was going through; you knew she would be scared to death. Your phone rang, interrupting your thoughts.
You declined the call when you saw it was your husband. When he called again, you had no choice but to pick it up, knowing he would keep calling you. "Hello?"
"Y/N, what are you doing? Why are you making such a huge transaction?" San questioned. You mentally cursed the bank manager for contacting San. "Y/N, answer me! What's wrong?" You just kept quiet, knowing you'd break down if you opened your mouth. You heard San take a deep breath. "Are you leaving me or something? Is this about the fights we've been having? I'm sorry about that, I know it was my fault and I don't deserve you, but please, let's talk about this," he begged, making your tears spill from your eyes. "Y/N, say something, please. Tell me what's wrong."
"I can't," you whispered, choking on a sob.
"Baby, please," he begged. "Don't leave me. Please, I'm begging you."
"I'm sorry, San."
There was silence on his end before he sighed. "Okay, take all the money you want," he said and hung up.
A moment later, the manager came into the room. "Ma'am, Mr. Choi has given his permission for the transaction. The procedure for huge cash transactions are of course different, so I need you sign a few papers and write a cheque. It'll take a little over half an hour to get the money in cash."
-
As soon as you got the cash, you called your daughter's kidnappers. "I assume you've got the money?"
"Yeah," you replied.
"Good. You'll see a black van from across the entrance of the bank," he said and hung up.
You quickly made your way outside, easily spotting the van. You crossed the street and got into the van.
You couldn't recognize the driver and the other man in the passenger seat. Your daughter wasn't even here.
"Good job, Mrs. Choi," the man in the passenger seat said with a smirk; you recognized him as the guy on the call.
"Where's my child?"
"Relax," he grinned. "We're going to her right now." He glanced at the driver who nodded and started driving.
"Ah, give me your phone," the man said. "We don't need your husband tracking us." You hesitantly gave it and he switched it off.
After what felt like hours, you reached an old building. As soon as you got outside the car, you spotted your daughter tied to a wall, unconscious with a bleeding head.
"Minhee!" you yelled, running to her.
Before you could untie her, you felt an arm go around your neck, choking you. Even though you were trained to fight, you weren't the best at it. Nevertheless, you tried to free yourself. You kicked the man in the shin, making his grip around you loosen. You took that opportunity to bite his hand before turning around, punching him in the face. You kept punching him until two other men grabbed you. You managed to get one of them injured by repeatedly kicking his private area, but the other guy one was too strong. He easily picked you and threw you onto the concrete floor, making you bang your head and knee. You groaned in pain, feeling a warm liquid running down your face. You pushed yourself to get up despite the excruciating pain you felt. His gun was pointed at you while he smiled. "Have a great time in hell, Choi Y/N."
Suddenly, a gunshot was heard and the man dropped his gun, clenching his hand in pain. A few more gunshots were fired at him, instantly killing him.
"Y/N!" you heard San scream. He picked you up in his arms bridal style, and you got a glimpse of his teary eyes.
"Min-Minhee," you murmured, struggling to keep your eyes open.
"Seonghwa's got her" was the last thing you heard before everything went black.
You slowly opened your ears, squinting due to the bright light. When your eyes adjusted, you realized you were in Yeosang's mini hospital at your gang's mansion. You turned your head to the side, spotting your husband reading some documents.
"San," you murmured, but it wasn't loud enough. "San," you raised your voice a little, coughing due to your extremely dry throat.
San immediately turned to you, eyes widening. "Y/N!" He quickly poured you a glass of orange juice since that was the first thing he saw. He helped you drink the juice, feeling so relieved to see you finally awake.
"How are you feeling, my love?" he asked, taking your hand in his.
"Where's Minhee?" you asked, panick clear in your eyes.
"Minnie is playing with Jongho and Yunho," San said, making you sigh in relief that your daughter was alive. "She's doing well. She got a few stitches, but it's healing quickly. Our daughter is very brave."
Your eyes teared up. "I'm sorry I couldn't tell you about—"
"Shh, don't," he cupped your cheek. "I understand why you did what you did, babe. I would've done that too. Anyway, we wiped out that entire gang and got the money back."
"What happened? How did you find me?"
"We killed all the four men and the other three who were hiding. One of them ran away to Japan, but Wooyoung and Mingi went there and killed him," San explained before getting a little nervous. "And um, don't be mad, but I put a tracker on your necklace."
You narrowed your eyes at him. "Hey, see, it proved to be helpful!" he said, putting his hands up defensively.
Before you could reply, San placed his hand over your mouth. He took a deep breath while a wide smile spread on his face. "I also have some good news."
"What's the news?" you asked, voice muffled due to San's hand on your mouth. He opened his mouth to reply, but the door burst open, revealing your daughter.
"Mommy!" she squealed, running to your bed, trying to get onto the bed that was too high for her.
San picked his daughter up, placing her beside you. "Be careful, angel. Mommy is still recovering." The little girl nodded at her father before looking at you.
"How you feel, mommy?" she asked.
"Much better, now that you're here," you replied, tickling her chin. Your daughter giggled, moving away from you. She placed her little hands on your stomach.
"Come out fast so that we can play!"
Your eyebrows furrowed in confusion before you glanced at San. "About that..." he chuckled, taking your hand in his. "We're having another baby. You're pregnant."
"W-What?" you gasped in shock. You and San had been trying to get another child for quite sometime now.
"Yeah," he giggled, kissing the back of your hand. "You're almost a month long and the baby is perfectly fine."
Happy tears streamed down your face while your hands moved to your stomach. San kissed your head before pulling away a little. "I know I've been getting on your nerves a lot, but thank you for blessing me with Minhee and now another baby," he mumbled. "I love you so much, my beautiful wife." He crashed his lips onto yours. You kissed him back, smiling into the kiss.
"Eww!" your daughter squealed in disgust. "I'm going to tell uncle Jongho that you're kissing!"
San pulled away with a giggle before lifting his daughter into his arms, placing kisses all over her face while she squirmed around, laughing loudly.
You lovingly watched the two of them with a large smile on your face, and you couldn't wait for the future when your new baby would arrive, adding more happiness to your and your family's lives.
Serenade (Daniela Dimitrescu/Reader) Pt. 11
Fandom: Resident Evil: Village Rating: T for language Warnings: Nope! Notes: Here we are, a breath away from the end. This features not one, but FOUR songs written by myself. If you only choose to listen to one of them, listen to the final one (Cradle of Heaven), as it is a duet I wrote specifically for this fanfiction, as something that the reader wrote to play together with Daniela. The links to these songs will be within the fanfiction itself, at relevant times. Past Chapters: Pt. 1: Nocturne, Pt. 2: Overture, Pt. 3: Accelerando, Pt. 4: Toccata, Pt. 5: Poco a Poco, Pt. 6: Elegy, Pt. 7: Harmony, Pt. 8: Obbligato, Pt. 9: Berceuse, Pt. 10b: Hymn AMAB
Chapter 11: Cadence
(Cadence: Two chords that mark the end of a song)
The stage is set, the lights are dimmed, your heart pounds within your chest, and the world is yours. Soon, it will be Daniela’s. She is right by your side, as ever, hand gently taking hold of your own. There’s a silent reassurance in her grip, a reminder that the two of you have overcome a plethora of challenges. A promise that this will be no different. Both of you take a deep breath, in sync, before exchanging a quick kiss. All of your hard work has been leading up to the coming moments. Although you are beyond confident in your lover’s abilities, there is a shadow of doubt in the back of your mind. Not for her sake, but surrounding the expectations held by her mother, the standard against which you would be measured.
“Come hell or high water, Songbird, I won’t let anything happen to you. I promise,” Daniela whispers, squeezing your hand again, eyes unblinking as they stare into yours. “You’ve made every right choice, worked harder than anyone I know, and there is nothing more I can ask of you… except another kiss to celebrate afterwards, that is.” Giggling in response gives you the moment you need to relax, nerves fading into the background of your mind. “Now let’s put on a show the likes of which my mother has never seen, mhmm?”
THREE HOURS EARLIER:
“Here, you can borrow my brooch. It’s been in the family for generations, since before we even came to the village, passed down starting with an ancestor who crafted it himself, from materials he scavenged while fleeing his home country,” Daphne rambles, helping you attach the jewelry to your shirt. Thankfully, her hands do not tremble nearly as much as yours have been for the past hour. “I’m more than sure that Lady Daniela will tell you this much, but I feel the need to repeat just how good you look right now. I don’t know where the hell they’ve been hiding this version of our uniform, but damn do I wish I could get one for my next date with Ygritte. Seriously, if you can get one in my size, please do me that favor.”
“Anything for my best friend. Especially after all the times you’ve saved my ass these past few months,” you reply, pausing to give her shoulder an affectionate pat. If not for her constant interference running, someone would have certainly found out about your relationship with Daniela. “Speaking of that… of my life being on the line, I mean… no matter what happens today, no matter what Lady Dimitrescu decides, take care of yourself. You’ve gambled with your own blood to keep me safe, but what I’ve done, what I’ve risked, those were my choices. My consequences. The last thing I’d ever want is for you to pay for them, somehow.”
Rolling her eyes, Daphne gives you a playful shove to the chest, before smoothing out the fabric of your dress uniform. Now she refuses to meet your gaze, a familiar mistiness taking over her brown eyes.
“Nobody around here is stupid enough to think you’ll die today. You managed to get Lady Daniela, of all people, to stay focused long enough to learn some absolutely beautiful pieces of music. You have proved, time and time again, that you are a talented musician, teacher, and ‘servant’. So get out there and kick some metaphorical ass, my friend, because you are ready,” she finally says, offering you what seems to be a handshake. But as soon as your hand meets hers, she’s pulling you in for a hug, holding you tight for a solid minute. When at last you part, you give her what may very well be the last smile she’d ever see gracing your lips.
---------------------------
A hand’s edge against xer forehead, parallel to the ground, kept perfectly flat. From anyone else, it would be mockery. From xer? Honest salute, solidarity in a traditional form, accompanied by a sharp-toothed grin. Mimicking the expression, you wave at Ava, glad to see that xe would be awake for your concert. After your first night with your girlfriend, Daphne had helped arrange for someone to be your “cover story” for sleeping outside of your usual quarters. With Daniela’s input (and jealousy), only one candidate had revealed themselves, in the form of a (conveniently) mute butler with an inconsistent schedule, love of mischief, and somehow the respect of the Dimitrescu family. Now, xe appeared ready to escort you to the location of your trial by fire.
“Are you sure our mutual friend won’t be upset to see the two of us together?” You teased, knowing full well that Ava was one of the only people that Daniela trusted 100% around you. In response, xe gives an exaggerated shrug, then quickly links xer arm with your own. Together you march onwards to your destiny, amused by the way xe practically skipped down the hallway. Maybe there was a certain wisdom to xer shenanigans, a carefree philosophy that encouraged laughter in the face of death, and you embraced the thought with a smile.
Before long, however, the two of you encounter another unlikely pair headed towards the same destination: Lady Cassandra, looking somewhat embarrassed, with an unfamiliar maiden at her side. Their hands are clutching each other desperately, although neither of them dares to look at the other. Instead they both watch you closely from where they’ve paused in the corridor. Oddly unfazed, Ava gives them a short bow of acknowledgement, earning xer a brief nod from Cassandra. Seeming eager to move on, she addresses you quickly before gesturing for you to keep walking.
“Good luck. Don’t fuck this up for Daniela, or I’ll never hear the end of it,” she growls, doing her best to downplay her obvious concern. Wanting to let her keep up with her facade, you merely give a nod as you resume walking towards the concert stage. Soft footsteps behind you let you know that the strange pair are accompanying you. Still walking alongside you, Ava repeatedly glances behind you, putting out xer hands in the shape of a heart, giggling all the while. If you didn’t know any better, you would almost assume that xe wanted to get hit by Cassandra.
“Ava, please calm down. If you’re not careful, she’ll throw something at you. If she does that, you’ll probably dodge, and then I’ll probably end up getting hit, and then I’ll miss the concert, Lady Dimitrescu will kill me as punishment, Daniela will be sad and whiny about it, and none of you will have any peace for, like, a month. Three weeks, bare mims,” you tease, nudging xer in the ribs. Emphasizing a pout, xe sends one last look at Cassandra and her ‘friend’ (whose hand she was still holding onto like a lifeline), mouthing words you couldn’t parse. Based on the way Cassandra groans, it was something ridiculously cheesy. Regardless, xe behaves the rest of the way there…
ONE MINUTE TO SHOWTIME:
“I love you, Firefly, and I know that you’re going to do absolutely amazing out there. I’m so proud of you,” you murmur, pressing a feather-light kiss to Daniela’s cheek. As dearly as you wish to stay behind the curtain, in her arms, you know that the show was inevitable. With one last nod to your beloved, you part the fabric shielding you, stepping into the spotlight. Imaginary crowds grow hushed at your appearance, a sea of faces greeting you warmly. In truth, there are but five members in this audience, each gazing upon you with veiled interest. Donning you best presentation persona, you set this final act in motion. “Lady Dimitrescu, Lady Cassandra, Lady Bela, and Mx. Caldwell, it brings me great pleasure to present to you, on this day, a concert performed by your own Lady Daniela. For three months now I have acted as her instructor, and these three months have been, perhaps, the most rewarding of my entire life. I could not possibly be any more proud of her than I already am. Now, without further ado… let us begin!”
Stepping to the side, a tug of a rope has the curtains parting entirely, revealing your beloved, waiting ready at the piano. All at once your audience (including Cassandra’s partner, acting as a mere servant in the background) sits up with wide smiles. They look Daniela over, taking in the sight of her fanciest dress, and the way her eyes light up with joy. By the time her fingers begin dancing away at the keys, there is not a single ounce of anxiety in your entire soul. This first song is a relic from your past, a representation of an abandoned idea, yet she plays it like a celebration. It’s fast, hits hard, a bold take right out of the gate. Admittedly, it is also somewhat short. Nonetheless, it serves its purpose, igniting a spark of excitement in those present. Once the song ends, Daniela is surprised by the intensity of her family’s applause. In the back of her mind, she trembles with excitement, knowing that the best was yet to come.
Riding this wave of pride, she immediately settles into the next song, something slower but far grander. Affection thrums inside your chest as you watch your pupil perfectly execute another piece. You can only imagine what her mother must be feeling, to see just how far her daughter has come in such a short amount of time. A quick glance in Alcina’s direction reveals the barest hints towards her being impressed. For now that was enough to satisfy you. Soon enough her face would twist in surprise, as the second song ended, and a new face steps up onto the stage: Lady Bela. Wordlessly she retrieves her violin from the back of the stage, then turns to the front with a mischievous smile.
“Now, a duet! Presenting the ever-talented Lady Bela, to join Lady Daniela for a rendition of an original song, dubbed ‘Northern Lights’. Enjoy!” You call out, before once more taking your place at the side. While Daniela did not need you to count her in for her solo performances, this feels ever so slightly more important, and as such you do your best to conduct for the duration of the song. If either of the performers need it, they hide it well. Honestly, you weren’t sure if your girlfriend had looked your way even a single time so far. ‘Twas incredible to witness her. Akin to a siren, near glowing, taking to the stage as if born to grace its center. Even with Bela working her own magic, Daniela is ever the star. Together they weave a lovely song, notes rising high into the air, swirling around an enchanted audience.
When it ends, both performers give a bow, as if the entire affair had come to a close. Without hinting at what was to come, you switch places with the eldest Dimitrescu daughter. A deep breath rattles your ribcage as you find your center, reaching out to take Daniela’s hand, the two of you raising your arms upward in a display of union. For the first time this evening, Lady Alcina narrows her eyes in what feels like disapproval. But you pay her no mind. Instead you sit alongside your beloved, quietly settling into your practiced position.
There is no introduction for this song. No announcement, no showmanship, nor even a countdown into the symphony. Simply, like exhaling a breath, the two of you start to play. Your phrases echo hers, and vice versa, calling and answering, accompanying all the while, natural as anything holy in the wild. ‘Tis the second shortest song of the night, only long enough to showcase the degree of your partnership with Daniela. As the song crescendos into an ending, you manage to meet the gaze of your employer. Perhaps it is merely an illusion of hope, or a reflection of lights above, but you swear you see tears in her eyes.
“Outstanding, incredible,” she praises, rising to her feet alongside her other daughters, clapping all the while. Once again you rise to your feet, hand clasped with Daniela’s, bowing as deeply as you can manage. Before you can even process what’s happening, your girlfriend is being pulled away from you, swept up into the arms of her mother. Desperation digs like a knife into your heart, as you ache to celebrate with her, but you remain ever in the guise of a professional. “You did amazing, my dear. I cannot begin to describe how proud I am.” The family gathers around each other, buzzing with affection fit to make the hardest of hearts melt. You are left on the outside, awkwardly waiting, without a hint of acknowledgment.
Even if this concert was a measure of your skill as a teacher, Lady Dimitrescu had never bothered to consider you more than another servant. This night was about Daniela. About your secret girlfriend, the brightest star in all the skies. That is not something that bothers you, nor does it surprise you. All that makes you wish to weep is the desire to kiss her. To sweep her into your arms, with celebratory kisses, singing her name as a praise to higher powers. In the end, it takes several minutes for Daniela to pull away enough to move back to you, and even then she cannot give you the reaction she yearns for.
“I’ll come by to talk to you tonight, I promise,” she whispers, as she gives you the weakest hug you have ever felt. Then she is returning to her family, clinging to her mother with a massive grin. Soon enough you are left alone on stage, quiet surrounding you, mixed feelings gnawing at the pit of your stomach. Something feels… wrong. You cannot put a name to it. No one has hinted to you what your beloved has planned, for none but her even have a clue. As soon as she is alone with her mother, as soon as she has the smallest sliver of an opportunity, she knows what she must do. “Mother… we need to talk. I... I have a confession to make.”
Problems Of A Spaceman
Chris Beck x Stripper!Reader  6.4k words
Summary: Chris attempts to gain some confidence back after his fiancée leaves him, though, the journey is different than he thought it would be... (smut, mentions of cheating, self-deprecation, exotic dancing, space kink because duh, dope fucking music choice if I do say so myself)
Author note: yes I did write this four years ago, this is an updated version since I recently found it after deleting my other blog, enjoy.
Tumblr media
2037
It shouldn’t even be a thing. Chris didn’t get nervous, this was something new for him. After thirteen years of education, five standard spacewalks and a back-to-back trip to the newly colonized neighbouring red planet, nothing should phase him anymore – but that was space. There were things significantly more nerve-wracking than his current situation; perhaps he was better at being an astronaut than fulfilling his social and romantic life.
While taking all the prerequisites required for NASA and in medical school, he didn’t have time for fraternizing with anyone, most people in the medical field experience that. It was a miracle that he could even keep the attention of his ex-fiancée during the mission to Mars since he didn’t exactly know how to flirt. No matter how intelligent he was, all of that did nothing to help him in his personal life and everything that came with it.
Furthermore, the sexual aspect was a problem for him, too.
He’s never had an opportunity to explore himself with another person, of course, he’s had plenty of sex but, it was nothing more than the standard modus operandi. Beth was hard to navigate, she was disengaged and blatantly selfish, eventually blaming him for her unfaithful tendencies and lack of interest when he was the only one making an effort. It ended as it began, a complete circumstantial shitshow and because of that, he is on a mission to gain self-confidence back.
Since she kicked him out, he’s been sleeping in the spare room of his good friends’ house for the last couple of months while his new apartment is being renovated. Mark Watney was a single man who knew what that position felt like, and who also knew the beginnings of a solution. The ability to pay women for their undivided attention did wonders for a man’s ego, especially at an exclusive gentlemen’s club rather than a regular strip joint. It is more of a candid transaction that was valued at both ends.
And it is very exclusive. It required a reservation to save a slot since it was so well-known and a general, but hefty, fee at the door as insurance.
He made it sound like the easiest thing in the world, but on the other hand, Chris was so fucking anxious to go that he could vividly feel his blood pumping in overdrive. He’s never, ever attended a place like that before. But as he looked up at the classy, luminescent sign of the building that lit up the dark parking lot, he started to wonder what exactly he’s getting himself into. Just as long as he isn’t awkward, maybe everything will be okay.
Don’t be weird, don’t fuck it up. Simple.
He repeated those words in his head as he was looked over by the heavy before being let in and did everything the lady at the front desk told him to. After that, it was time to be escorted through the big fancy door.
The initial shock passed through him quickly, the smell of perfume, cigars and liquor weren’t as bad as he thought it was going to be. But once he rounded the corner into the main lounge the nerves were back. The wild colours in the dusky lighting gave the atmosphere an alluring feel as he bared witness to scarcely clothed women dancing on stage, at tables with other men and walking around the floor.
He adjusted his ball cap to sit lower on his face and scanned the room for a free seat, suddenly feeling a little overwhelmed and needing to sit down before he either collapsed or backed out entirely. Chris Beck was not good at this.
Could he perform surgery after surgery for 16 hours straight? Yes.
Can he proudly say that he is an award-winning astronaut that helped shape the future of space science? Fuck yeah, he can.
Can he say that he can bed anyone he wants and walk around like he owns the place? No, no he cannot.
The spaceman sat in a vacant booth near the left side of the stage, tucked away in a dark corner to observe as he planned. Yeah, he was good at observing. Watney reassured him before he left, stating that he did specialize in human anatomy and he should do what he does best...observe, evaluate and execute, which helped a bit. A doctor’s point of view was his only saving grace right now, he’d stick to that comfortable method for as long as he can.
Observe.
Tumblr media
He found himself zoning in on different interactions that played out as time ticked by. Many lovely women took their turn on stage, very healthy and some men had been taken behind curtains and even thrown out for inappropriate behaviour. He made of a note of that in the back of his mind if there ever came a time. No touching.
He didn’t know how much time had passed since he arrived. There were a few nice girls who came over to talk to him, but he declined any offers they threw his way respectfully and chose to remain where he was instead. Although, just when he thought about turning in for the night, the lights suddenly dimmed until it was almost pitch-black. So dark that he couldn’t even see his hand.
The emcee bordered more background music that rattled his chest through the speakers above the circle booth, it increased slowly and he assumed it was building up to another track. The crowd of regulars and new attendees alike cheered loudly at the change of pace, Chris perked up and clapped along with them even though he had no clue as to what.
      “Ladies, gentlemen and every-damn-one in between, we have a special treat for you tonight.” the man announced heartily.
      He continued as the music came to a peak, then dissipated as he spoke the moniker of the next dancer, “Your house favourite has decided to give you a dance that I think is out of this world...please welcome to the stage, Ares”
The patrons went wild as Chris, on the other hand, went rigid – almost choking on his drink.
As the projected images of deep space filled the room in a flash, a dancer was now on stage walking around in something simple, yet sexy. No one could get enough of her or the choreography, staying for her performances that always seemed to have a different aesthetical essence every time she made an appearance.
The modest man couldn’t stop looking at her, she was the main focus of the room – but for him, the significance was completely different from the others. What were the chances that one of his biggest passions in life could be used as an exotic dance theme, materialized right in front of his eyes?
But when the music started...that’s when things even more interesting.
The song wasn’t one he anticipated, he assumed it would be the same club music that made his eardrums shudder, but this slow beat only made his senses buzz, and not just from the vibrations. He enjoyed the older music his commander played after years of listening to it. So, when he detected the beginning of this underrated 1972 classic by Harry Nilsson, this stripper had his full attention.
Bang, bang, shoot em’ up, destiny Bang, bang, shoot em’ up to the moon Bang, bang, shoot em’ up one, two, three (One, two, three, four)
The woman circled the pole as the song started to wind up, making little gestures to the regulars and letting the music guide her. She hit every deep strum of the guitar by waving her hips from side to side delicately, still holding on to the shiny metal planted at her side.
As the artist started to sing the corresponding words, she spun around the pole. The lights caught the small crystals on her one-piece and somehow, scattered like the night sky on her bare skin. Her hips moved sinfully as her body followed the fluid movements like Saturn’s rings, circulating with the natural orbit of the planet. Or pole in this case.
I wanted to be a spaceman That’s what I wanted to be But now that I am a spaceman Nobody cares about me
Next, with every distinct beat, she put her back to the pole, slid down and arose in one fell swoop. She twirled once, flipping her hair behind her head and rolling her lower body ‘round and around and around and around as the words called out above the hollering. The attention was now drawn to her lower body.
Highlighting her assets as dancers called it.
Hey Mother Earth, won’t ‘cha bring me back down Safely to the sea But ‘round and around and around and around Is all she ever say to me
She melted down on all fours to crawl across the platform, doing the next progressions effortlessly. She laid on her back, arching her body like a tidal wave entranced by the moon, rolling onto her stomach, and using her knees to sweep her torso across the floor until she was up in a kneeling position again.
The way she created a giant slip from her ass to her shoulders gave the perfect view of her behind to the men and women on the left side of the stage, money cascading across her body. It was quick yet elegant.
I wanted to make a good run I wanted to go to the moon I knew that it had to be fun I told ‘em to send me real soon I wanted to be a spaceman That’s what I wanted to be But now that I am a spaceman Nobody cares about me
She repeated similar moves to the first chorus but on her knees this time, feeling up her own body, wiggling her assets playfully at whoever she wanted – connecting with the audience. Chris was captivated by the way she carried her body like that, the slightly distorted music gave a sexy edge to her routine that caused his cock to throb in his jeans.
In his big doctor brain, he was trying to figure out how someone could be so graceful. Even if he felt ashamed of viewing her so strenuously, he justified it by observing her anatomy like the surgeon he was.
She didn’t wear high heels, opting to be barefoot, and the only extravagant makeup she wore was something that made her body sparkle. Her simple lingerie wasn’t something that stole the show, she just came as herself. The differences help him tell a lot about who she was, the little details sending signals to his genius mind.
Hey Mother Earth, won’t 'cha bring me back down Safely to the sea Around and around and around and around Is just a lot of lunacy (yeah, yeah)
The break in the lyrics gave a sense of anticipation, the echo prepared everyone for the next verse as the song swerved in and out of a muffled tone. Then, she was watching him.
Chris abruptly looked away as the mood changed, his breath hitching as he erratically glanced around before settling on her again. She appeared to be showing off for him now with a smile on her lips. He swallowed thickly as his mouth began to water and dry out at the same time, exchanging aggressive eye contact with the woman that had his undivided attention.
The music got lost in the background noise as they disappeared into their own world, his heart pulsed in his ear and his breath shallowed as everything around them was lost. It was like the earth had stopped spinning, the gravity giving out so the spaceman could feel weightless. There were faint pictures of the cosmos floating across his flushed skin, revealing his lip clamped between his impressively white teeth.
'Round and around and around and around and around (So bring me back down) 'Round and around and around and around and around Safe on the ground
He wasn’t trying to be sensual, Chris chewed his bottom lip when he was either content, uneasy or nervous. And nervous he was. Those eyes said innocence but the rest of him screamed sex fiend who could pound her into another universe if provoked, it definitely piqued her interest.
She never had the pleasure of seeing a person in tune with her like that before, it was refreshing. He looked like he was genuinely enjoying the way her body made him react but on a more personal level, something difficult to accomplish from 15 feet away.
Hey Mother Earth, better bring me back down Safely to the sea But around and around and around and around Is all she ever say to me, yeah
She had to be the one to break the intense eyefuck that was taking place, on both ends, in the middle of her set. Chris sensed the music drift back in, the planet rotating once more and coming back to himself after his mind floated away into endless space amongst many stars filling the void. As the song came to a close, she followed the rest of her routine with similar moves, collecting herself after a mere moment.
Everything was simply...simple.
But there was still so much of the unknown that came with the woman she was, remaining understated in this line of work and feeding a lot of emotion into her life passion. He could feel it.
That is the exact reason why she was a house favourite.
You know, I wanted to be a spaceman That’s what I wanted to be But now that I am a spaceman Nobody cares about me Say hey, you Mother Earth, you better bring me back down I’ve taken just as much as I can But around and around and around and around Is the problem of a spaceman
Evaluate.
That spaceman had a problem alright.
She just took him on a fucking cosmic ride that will be burned into his mind for the foreseeable future. His pants were now painfully tight, pressing his cock close to his body so that every time he moved his tip would be stimulated by his silky briefs. He was being forced to evaluate his current predicament.
He thought about the next step as the projections faded from the room and her along with them, completely vanished by the time the lights dimmed down and back up again.
Tumblr media
Chris originally wanted to stay for a while longer to watch some more, not pushing himself to do more than he was prepared for; progress takes time and it depends on the person. He evaluated the options in front of him, either pursue the course that led him to the woman who just blew his mind or, stick with what he had been doing for the past five months – fucking his hand while he rested alone in his bed.
Eventually, after he gave into the disconcerted feeling picking him apart, he went with the familiar option and kept his head down in disappointment at his lack of confidence, sliding out of the booth. He just wanted to go home at this point, maybe he would try again another day. He nearly reached the exit when a security guard abruptly stopped him from leaving, he thought he did something wrong at first but as it turns out, that was far from what was the case.
      “No, you didn’t do anything—you’re being requested by a dancer” the large man chuckled.
Chris looked up at the man that towered over him, questioning the authenticity of the claim. He clapped him on the shoulder.
      “If I were you, man...I would take the dance. She rarely takes requests but offering...one in a million”
The security guard walked him into the back where the exclusive rooms were and into one with a large circular seat, gentle lighting and parlour cabinet full of assorted items. It wasn’t a suffocating space, but he felt like he was running out of oxygen
      “Enjoy the show, man” with that final word, he left Chris alone in the room.
Once the door clicked, he rushed to rub his sweaty palms on his dark jeans and took a shaky breath as he sat down, pulling on the neckband of his sweater. In the meantime, he worked on not being so high strung, the door being behind him didn’t help as he waited for her to come. While the anticipation slowly drove him nuts, he ran the three steps Watney reminded him of in his cloudy mind.
Observe, evaluate and...execute.
Execute.
He was startled at the hands sneaking around his shoulders and lightly down his chest, making him jump in a bit in the big velvet chair. He was too deep in his thoughts to hear the door open behind him or her walking in on his stiff back facing her. Chris heard her soft chuckle behind him and felt the warm air caress his sensitive neck.
      “Easy loverboy” Ares cooed in a low voice.
If it wasn’t before, his heart was racing at lightspeed now. She had such a strong effect on him.
      “...you’re very tense. Did you know that?” she whispered behind his ear.
He shivered at the feeling and slowly nodded, not trusting his stupid mouth to not say something awkward.
      She chuckled again, “You have the prettiest blue eyes...even from a distance”
The woman walked around his seated boy, keeping her hands on him but moving them with her until she was faced with the mystery man from the darkest corner in the lounge. He wasn’t looking at her, but around her, and trying to find somewhere to rest his relentless gaze. It was all in vain though, she trailed her finger along his jaw and under his chin, forcing his eyes to hers.
      “Hmm, there they are—better up close” she bit her lip softly.
He looks so timid, with his big beady eyes and those perfectly pouted lips working in the evilest ways. Chris blushed at the compliment, feeling better about himself already.
Watney might actually be right about this whole excursion after all.
      “I—uh, thank you” he murmured.
Chris cursed himself for already stuttering like a dumbass.
In his defence, she was touching him ever-so-gently and how can he not trip up his words with her looking like a holy goddess. Ironic, given the circumstance. And now, he couldn’t look away.
Especially since her hands travelled upwards to pull his NASA ball cap off, then leaning forward while maintaining that close proximity as she unzipped his sweater, helping him pull it off.
      “We don’t need those” Ares whispered, tossing the garments on the floor.
But there was always some teasing before the actual contact.
As she put distance between their bodies, he was resting almost slack in the chair – legs parted, arms limp at his side and in his lap as soft music began to play. The apple of throat bobbed in his tight throat as she began moving slowly in front of him, full of grace and precision. She was like a supernova, its effortlessly soft edges melting into the black of space as her skin did with her bodysuit. The fact that he was the only one seeing it made the experience that much sweeter, all those feelings coming back from earlier.
He was also able to recognize that she was wearing subtle glitter and rhinestones that temporarily fused to her skin, causing the shine and sparkle of her body on stage.
Once she gave him time to get comfortable, she spread his legs apart and hovered her back over his chest, grinding her ass into his lap. The shampoo and light perfume made his sex twitch as he inhaled it in, trying his best not to give in and touch. He kept his hands on the edges of the chair, his fingers digging into it painfully – he remembered what happened to the other guys, how they got thrown out. Chris just wants to watch, that’s good enough for him.
No touching.
Ares leaned forward slightly, arching her back and hitting his private areas in all the right places, gradually making him break out into a small sweat. The woman rubbed her ass on his lap expertly and before he knew it, she pressed herself against him to lay her head on his shoulder.
       “I hope you know, the way you looked at me...you really know how to get a girl hot and bothered.”
Of course, he blushed again. His face was burning like the sun at this point.
       “I...I was just enjoying it—you are very talented” Chris laughed nervously.
He turned his face slightly, absentmindedly following the heat of her skin until he was fanning her neck, so close...but never touching. He was so, sooo close, but felt so far.
She stood up without warning and slowly turned around, pushing him back into the back of the chair more and watching as he widened eyes dilated further at her forwardness. He’d clearly never had a lap dance so he probably didn’t know about what happened during one. She set her legs on either side of his thighs, effectively straddling him to get on with the real deal. She smoothed her arms around his neck and left them to hang lazily off the back of the chair, never breaking eye contact the entire time.
       “That’s very sweet, I can feel how excited you are...”
As she began to move, their heads fell back simultaneously from the direct friction. Ares righted her head after a second and pressed into his personal space, their noses touching every time she moved up his lower body and back down again. She circled her hips a couple of times and breathed out a sigh, it was nice not giving lap dances to the clingy regulars and giving a man like this her talented movements and motions instead. It was different this time around, the atmosphere was weirdly intimate – he just gave off that energy.
       “Very excited...” Ares added.
Chris shuttered as she rested her entire body weight on his clothed erection at the sentence, now realizing how difficult it was not to touch. Though she picked up on his hesitation and demeanour instantaneously. She stroked all over his arms, chest and stomach for the first time, feeling how cut the guy really was, there were endless muscles. Very practical.
       He gave her a shy smile, “It’s been a long time since I’ve felt this way—to, uh...to have my body behave this way, I mean”
       “Ah, I’m turning you on?...” she asked, leaning in.
Chris didn’t know what to say to that, he’s never been good in these situations and more often than not resorted to the only thing he knows everything about. He’s starting to lose his cool and what happens when he loses his cool?
Well, he is not very smooth.
       “I, um...it’s the body sending signals the corresponding part of the brain...neurons fire commands and simulate the, uh...ohh,” a moan cut off his rambling.
He could feel himself getting closer to his release, something he didn’t want but also desperately wanted at the same time. He was already on edge when he was in the booth, his brain constantly stimulating his sex to the point where his boner couldn’t go away. The way it was being dragged across his pants made him groan even more.
       She giggled, “Has anyone told you that you’re a dork when you’re nervous?”
Chris shook his head, closing his eyes to try and fight off his orgasm until the lap dance was over. He had to swallow most of the breaths that became more and more erratic with every sway of her hips.
The way his skin flushed a dark pink and his breathing picked up confirmed she was doing a good job, but the only thing that threw Ares off was the fact that he was shaking violently, a straining vein on his neck making an impression in his flesh. She was unknowingly pumping his shaft along with his jeans, practically coaxing his seed to just burst out of him.
Chris felt his balls go stiff, cock pulse and tighten right before he lost control. The thing that pushed him to his limit was his balls compressing between his legs when she quickly swivelled her hips. He gripped the arms of the chair and thrust his hips upward, letting out a long mewl and finally giving up on holding back as pleasure took over his ability to think properly. Ares stopped moving while he continued riding out his orgasm that felt too goddamn good, cum seeping out of his boxers and down his thigh.
Once he found a way to maneuver himself back to Earth, he went completely limp in the chair as if he just ran a triathlon when the reality of what just happened hit him. That just happened, he hasn’t cum in his pants since his first year of university, and didn’t have a clue of what to do about it.
Why didn’t he just stay home? He could have avoided this if he just isolated himself in his room like he usually did.
       “Huh...that’s never happened to me before,” she said in a tone he couldn’t quite decipher.
       He glanced away after opening his eyes, still in a daze, “I...um”
For a moment he thought he made her uncomfortable and was getting ready to apologize, possibly leave if she wanted him to. But instead, he tilted his head as the embarrassment on his face was replaced by confusion at her smirk and gentle eyes. She dragged her ass across him once, making him hiss at the sensitivity of his half-hard cock still dripping with arousal.
Usually, she didn’t allow excessive touching and avoided any kind of sexual encounters at work, it wasn’t her thing – but there was something about this one that told her he should be pleased. To be honest, he wasn’t some run-of-the-mill scumbag or pompous prick like the usual attendees are, she’s starting to see he’s a plain, genuine guy. That’s why it took him by surprise when she leaned down and pressed a long kiss on the crease of his throat, sucking on it periodically.
       “...I thought there was no, mhmm, touching” Chris stammered.
Ares held on to the baby hairs at the back of his neck, then ran his soft hair through her fingers as she kissed her way across his face. Their lips brush together as she spoke.
       “Shhhh, let me take care of you...and this” she moved on him again, a mischievous gleam in her eye.
Chris whimpered out a noise of surprise when she finally connected both their lips together, she sucked his bottom one between hers and nipped at it tenderly. She grabbed his hands, placing them on her to encourage him to feel her, to touch her body. He was hesitant with his movements, still diffident even when she slithered her tongue into his soft mouth, twirling and caressing his.
When they disconnected he panted heavily in the shared space, she hummed at his expression, desire. After she climbed off his lap and kneeled in front of him as her hands began to unbuckle his belt and tug at his zipper.
       “Okay, this is happening? Right now?...oh” Chris breathed out.
Everything was happening so fast, he didn’t have time to think about the repercussions of his irresponsible, but tempting actions. His voice of reason was screaming its concern and he couldn’t help but listen to it as he sat there, immobilized while she worked his pants, then cum-soaked briefs down his legs.
       “You really don’t have t—” he groaned throatily as she pumped his shaft.
It was always the dorky guys who have the nicest and fullest cocks she had ever seen without fail – he was no different in that department, a decent length, thickness and fit for her. Ares stroked him until he was fully solid again, admiring the way he turned his hips up at the feeling of her hand around him – at least, if they stopped now, he’d have a good visual to fuel his lewd imagination late at night.
       She quirked a wholesome smile, “We need to clean you up before things get too heated”
Chris would have mentally retracted the concept of using her as ammunition for his masturbation thoughts, but he was too busy with his eyes rolling back at the most damning sight in the universe. She began to lick the cum from where it was on his body, on his cock, all over his thigh and what remained on her fingers; swallowing everything before working him over with her mouth.
       “Jesus Christ...” he growled, reeling in an abrupt lust. He held the back of her head as she sucked him off, “it’ll be over very soon if you don’t get up here”
Even taken aback by his tone, she grinned and gestured at him stand up along with her, encouraging him to pull the bodysuit straps down. Chris kissed along her collarbone faintly, tugging the lingerie down to expose her breasts and gleaming heat to his eyes. He kissed her neck as best he could, not knowing if he was making her feel good in the least but still giving it his best shot.
       “God, you are beautiful...”
Luckily, she moaned at his rumbling words on her skin, relaxing him a little bit.
This was crunch time, they need to do it now. Ares rushed to pull his white t-shirt off, appreciating his abs, pecs and biceps as she pushed him back down on the chair forcefully – he looked like a complete stud but had the sweetest personality ever. She giggled as he squirmed out of his pants and kicked off his shoes so he could be fully naked like her, climbing on him again as he did so.
Chris didn’t want anything binding him while this happened.
       “Do you have a condom?” she mumbled against his lips, kissing him again.
He made an affirming noise, gesturing for her to pick up his pants where his wallet held one in a hidden pocket. He quickly fumbled the leather out and tossed it with his pants to the ground, barely getting the condom out before she snatched it and rolled it down the length of him. She propped herself on her knees, coating him in her growing wetness as she prepared to take him.
But, he hesitated and held her just above him.
       “Are you...are you sure you want to do this—with me?” Chris asked, his eyes held a sadness that she never wanted to see from him again.
Of course, she wanted to...now more than ever.
To reassure him, she cupped his cheek with her free hand and pressed their foreheads together. The woman revelled in the way his mouth dropped open, eyes becoming hooded and a gasp hitching in the back of his throat as she sunk onto him. Looking deep into his eyes and watching the sadness dissipate into satisfaction. He grasped her waist with one arm as she began to ride him at a steady pace, his cock stretching her.
Chris groaned loudly, choking on his moans every so often when she caressed the right spot. The speed increased as he began to enthusiastically meet her thrusts, causing them to both murmur muffled whines and whimpers into each other’s mouths. One hardy smack of his thighs to her ass pierced their ears when he gave a particularly harsh snap of his body, pulling her down as he kept up with his hard thrusts into her.
       “Fuck, do that again...” she shivered as he fucked her so carefully, making her needier every second.
He had his brows furrowed in concentration, focusing on pleasuring her and tried to forget the doubts he had to live in that moment. This was more than spontaneous sex for him, he was making love to someone – feeling good for once. He has never fucked someone before but, if anything, he was giving her the most carnal, admiration-fueled sex he could.
She bounced faster as he, in turn, bucked into her harder. She was clenching, he was throbbing...it was too much.
       “God, that’s it, just like that,” he grunted, continuing to manually move her slowing hips.
       “Shit, you’re gonna make me cum...” she groaned, “...please tell me you’re close”
Chris nodded fervently, keeping his eyes locked on her for as long as he could. In the final stretch, as her clenching became more prevalent, he kept one arm around her as he trailed his hand down to her clit. Just when started to rub, his fingers caught the nerves underneath and made her cry out.
       “Does that feel good for you? Is it okay?” he asked politely.
Ares sobbed her ‘yes’ in a pitchy tone.
He hugged her tightly against him as everything started to unwind, leaving his pelvis to stimulate her clit. The woman clenched hard around him as she lost her vision, the way her cunt gripped made him speed up his thrusts to continue moving. Her low whine near his ear did him in, his lower body ghosted on a final thrust as he stopped completely – his heaving was muffled by the clenching of his teeth, letting himself tremble in her arms as he filled the condom with his cum.
       After a while of sitting there, Chris broke the silence, “I...I think my time is up”
She laughed at his witty remark, not realizing how much that boosted his mood and tugged at his heart, or how she just single-handedly repaired his self-worth. There was no way to process it, all he knew was he felt amazing, he felt...content.
Ares stood on weak legs, climbing off him and allowing him to dispose of the condom. Chris had a dopey smile on his face as he pulled his pants back on and did the fastenings quickly, she was already back in her bodysuit by that time. He appeared to be lost in deep thought as she handed him his shirt, smirking at him – his skin flushed a soft rose when he finally noticed.
She scoffed.
       “Do I really make you nervous—after that?” she retrieved his sweater and cap off the floor where they were forgotten.
Chris laughed quietly before shifting back to his serious face, smiling somewhat. She wondered why he was there in the first place when he could have women lining up; well, if he wasn’t so humble that is.
       He cleared his throat, “uh...thank you for that by the way. You didn’t have to do what you did...I just” then began rubbing the back of his neck awkwardly.
         “I’m not good at this stuff, one-time things and strippers—or, I mean exotic dancers, I didn’t mean for that to sound like th—”
To save him from himself, she curled her fingers around his shirt collar and pulled him in, kissing him thoughtfully. Chris cupped the back of her head right away and held her waist as she encompassed the modest stranger with her warmth. He chased her mouth after she broke away from his pursed lips, brows furrowing at his want to keep kissing her.
       “You talk a lot, it’s sweet” she giggled at his actions.
Following that encounter, he felt like a new man. She let him make love to her, or fuck her, whichever it was. He couldn’t get over that woman, she felt authentic in his arms, unlike Beth who felt out of place and made him realize his ex was never meant for him at all.
Chris was walking away, leftover clothes in hand and messy sex hair weathered by her hands, but before he could slip behind the curtain leading back to the lounge, she called out to him. When he turned to face her, she was in a robe and leaning laxly against the wall, just as dishevelled as he was.
       “For the record, I’m not good at this—” she gestured between them, “—either”
He drove home with a smile on his face and satisfaction coursing through him.
Although, he couldn’t shake the nagging feeling of having a mere fling. Not even knowing anything about her while doing something so intimate, something personal to him. He wished he would have asked her real name or her number, so he could thank her properly or even, possibly ask her out.
He had a feeling about her, the attraction was undeniable now.
Perhaps it was a god working some sort of miracle or the planet’s alignment giving him mystical energy, maybe something as simple as luck. But, as he started to get ready for bed that night, a piece of paper fell out of his jeans as he stripped to have a shower.
Curiously, he picked it up and looked it over.
xxx-xxx-xxxx Just because I knew you wouldn’t ask for it. Call me sometime. – Y/N
Maybe he would take her out.
After all, he felt as if they had this connection, even if it was unconventional from any other relationship he had before. One thing he knew for sure was he liked the sound of her name on his tongue, repeating it in front of the mirror and practicing what to say to her...thinking about her until he fell fast asleep.
The spaceman used to have problems, but now?
He has none.
George Weasley x Reader Smut- Where Did That Come From? (Part 2 of How Can You Tell?!)
Tumblr media
Quick Note- Part One on my pinned masterlist
You'd be lying if you said you hadn't been spending the majority of your day counting down the hours until you could be in that damned storage cupboard with George tonight- Christ it was all you daydreamed about during your classes. Never have you ever been more thankful for your love for potions too; during Snape's class today he asked you a question but you didn't hear him, daydreaming about what you'd do to George later on, and only caught onto the question after Snape repeated it, threatening to read your mind and tell the class. Well done Y/N for reading up on the next few weeks worth of content or you would have been DOOMED.
After a long thought over how tonight's events would go you eventually decided to focus all of your attention on George this time, wanting to prove to him even more how in love you are with him to try and ease his insecurities, even if your body did scream to let George use you as he wanted. Your thoughts were cut short at your name being called out to you.
"Oi L/N!" Fred called out, beckoning you towards him and George who were waiting for you outside of potions. "What was all that about in there then? Fantasising about old Sevvy boy in his cloak eh? Or out of it?" Fred winked, pointing his thumb towards the classroom door.
"You're such a bloody idiot sometimes." You laughed, moving to kiss George 'hello' as after a double Snape lesson you hadn't really had the opportunity to talk.
"Snape snogging aside, I thought we'd start this year on a small but dangerous prank." Fred began, looking between you and George like some evil genius. "So, I was thinking that tonight we can sneak into the potions classroom and switch the labels on all the potions bottles. Our security is perfect. If old Snape looms in we can use Y/N as bait and get her to practice out that fantasy of hers while we escape." He joked at the end and you looked at George and smirked.
"Whilst that sounds fun Freddie I'm afraid that it's not Snape I was thinking about anyway. Besides, I'm on prefect duty again tonight and I can't ditch this early in the year. Maybe next time?" You spoke, squeezing his cheek when he pouted.
"No matter, George we can do it. We used to get by alone after all. So we cou-"
"Can't tonight, sorry. I'm busy uh.. doing.. homework. Yeah, homework." George cut him off. Smooth, perfect execution. Fred looked at you, then at George and then back at you again.
"You're shagging in the cupboard aren't you."
"FRED!" You and George shouted together.
"For Merlin's sake can't you keep your bloody hands off each other for two seconds? I hang around with a bunch of pervs; we're in Hogwarts not a sodding brothel."
"Maybe next time Fred ol' pal. You'll be in our thoughts tonight." George spoke and then slapped his face at his words. "You kno-"
"PERVERT." Fred shouted. "I love you but not like that you weirdo. God whatever would mum think? Georgie Porgie Puddin' and Pie Kissed His Twin and Made Mum Cry..”
"And when Y/N came out to play, George ran off because they didn't share DNA" You laughed, dancing around George with Fred.
"Bullies. Both of you." George pouted, looking around at the strange reactions your little song got from the other students.
"Aw you love us really." You grinned, pulling George towards you by his loose tie and kissing him quickly.
"Per-"
"Shut up Fred."
The next few hours passed far too slowly for your liking until your last class for the day ended. After dinner you went back to your dorms to grab your trainers to switch into before your duty through the corridors a little later on- you were damned if you we're going to walk through the corridors in your school shoes - o̶r̶ ̶s̶c̶u̶f̶f̶ ̶t̶h̶e̶m̶ ̶o̶n̶ ̶t̶h̶e̶ ̶c̶u̶p̶b̶o̶a̶r̶d̶'̶s̶ ̶f̶l̶o̶o̶r̶ . You left to spend the last hour before curfew with the boys and then set off down the darkened halls, sending a quick "see you at 10" and a wink to George on the way out, laughing at Fred's disgusted look.
You were outside the cupboard by half 9, clearly eager, and couldn't help but grin when you turned the corner and saw George already standing there.
"Eager are we?" You called out, watching him jump at the sound of your voice.
"You're one to talk, you're here too." He quipped back, walking towards you.
"I always thought it was considered rude for the man to come first." You teased, pulling him by the tie once more but this time towards the cupboard. His cheeks flushed as he tried to think of a remark but he remained silent. That's new.
"Yeah well uh- you uh- I could.. nah I've got nothing, nice one." He held up his hand for a high five and you couldnt help but put your head into his chest and laugh.
"George?"
"Yes Y/N?"
"Did.. Was you about to high five me before we had sex?" You regained your composure and stood straight.
"Maybe.."
"Nice." You slapped your hand with his and pulled him inside, only remembering while the door was shut just how small it really was in there.
"Well this is cosy, might have to ma-"
"Just kiss me already." You whispered, going on your tip toes and wrapping your arms around his neck.
"No need to tell me twice." And with that he connected his lips to yours and placed his hands on your waist, cheekily sliding one down every now and then to give your butt a squeeze. You felt his tongue drag across your bottom lip and moaned as he took it between his teeth. "You're going to have to be quieter than that princess or everyone will hear us." He spoke quietly with a chuckle, complying as you started to unbutton his shirt. He went to throw it over his shoulder but was just met with a loud bang. "Bollocks." He muttered as you could hear him rubbing his other hand over his skin.
"Aw did you hurt your hand? Do you want me to kiss it better?" You teased, your eyes adjusting to the dark and reaching to grab his slender fingers and bring them towards your mouth. You slowly and softly kissed his hand all over, pausing slightly as his hand rested on your cheek and his thumb lingered on your bottom lip. You looked and saw the lust in his eyes and parted your lips ever so slightly, giving him just enough space to press his thumb through. You stared into his eyes as you swirled your tongue around the tip before he forced it further into your mouth- his pupils dilating as your eyes began to water. You slowly moved until the digit was out of your mouth, placing a final kiss on the tip and feathering a few more kisses up his arm until you reached his mouth again. George swallowed deeply. "Better?" You whispered, moving your lips towards his neck and jawline. He nodded before lifting your shirt above your head. "You know I'd do anything for you don't you George? Only for you. I love you." You praised, running your hands up and down his bare back. You heard him take a sharp intake of breath before speaking.
"Uh.. In that case Freddie hit me in the crotch with his chair in Snape's and it's still hurting a bit." You stopped your movements to start laughing.
"Such a romantic. I'm pouring my heart out to you and that's the best you got?" You grinned, moving to unbutton his trousers anyway. You laughed again as he began to move his arms dramatically.
"How else do you ask someone to do that? My dearest, gorgeous Y/N whom I love with my entire heart, please go onto your knees in this dusty cupboard and suck me off?" You unzipped his trousers and yanked them down with his pants.
"That'll work." You sunk down onto your knees and immediately took his hard cock into your hand, rubbing him softly, teasingly as he sucked back air in shock at how quick you moved. You looked up in attempt to catch George's eye but his head was tilted up and his eyes were closed, lost in the pleasure. You moved your head forward and teasingly licked the tip, collecting the precum that had begun to leak from it before suddenly taking the whole of him in making him moan louder than you'd ever heard him before. "You're going to have to be quieter than that princess or everyone will hear us." You mocked him from earlier as you grabbed his hands to place on the back of your head.
"You're going to be the death of me." He breathed, tightening his fingers in your locks.
"Better make your last memory a goodun then Georgie." You muttered, taking his cock back in full into your mouth. You kept yourself at a steady pace, occasionally slowing to tease his head or moan around him, the vibrations from your voice making his legs turn to jelly. He soon became impatient with your speed and began to thrust his hips into your mouth as his own pace, picking up the speed immediately and fisting his hand so tight into your hair you thought he'd rip it out. This was a side of George you hadn't seen before but Merlin did you love it.
"Fffuck.. God Y/N you're so-ah amazing." He praised between thrusts. You moaned at his words and felt his hips jolt and his movements become erratic. "Y/N stop.. or I won't last." He panted, moving his hands off your head and placing them on she shelves behind you for leverage. You stopped briefly and looked up at him.
"I wanted this to be for you. You seem happy enough, don't worry about me." You breathed, a bit out of breath yourself.
"Y/N I swear to all that is holy if you aren’t naked with your legs wrapped round my waist in the next 10 seconds I might explode." He growled. You felt your legs tremble at the mere thought of him suddenly being so vocal and in charge and quickly stood up.
"Sir yes sir." You blinked, the air taken out of your lungs as he swiftly removed your remaining clothing and hoisted you on his hips and against the door in a matter of seconds. He looked at you, realising how quick he was moving and wanted to make sure you were still okay with it. Instead of answering him you shot your head forward and smashed your lips onto his, holding onto his shoulder and neck for leverage. You moaned deeply into his mouth as you felt him enter you, filling you completely before starting to move at an unrelenting speed. "Fuck George." You groaned, burying your face into his neck as he moved one of his hands holding you up to cup your breast. You never thought about how strong he really was until now and it turned you on even more, something you didn't think was possible. He squeezed at your chest, twisting your nipple between his thumb and forefinger before swapping and giving the other side equal treatment. You could already feel yourself reaching the edge but began to see stars as his hand dropped to rub circles on your clit.
"Fuck Y/N, I love you. You're so fucking perfect." George breathed, nibbling at your earlobe. Your fingers tangled in the hair at the nape of his neck as you shoved your face even further into the crook of it.
"George.. You feel so... good..ah-shit" You panted as you could feel you both getting closer. "I love you. No one else could treat me like this... never want anyone else... I love you.. I'm yours, only yours." You whispered into his ear, remembering your main goal tonight was to make George feel the best he could. "Fuck me harder, please. Just use me."
"Say my name.. Please, just- just say my name." He begged, picking up the speed on your clit and sharpening his thrusts into you. You weren't even sure you could form words right now but managed to breathe out a quiet 'George'. "Louder. Prove you're mine." He groaned, his movements becoming sloppy.
"People could hear us."
"Good." His change in tune made you weak as your eyes rolled into the back of your head.
"George.. G-George.. Oh fuck GEORGE." You practically screamed his name at his final thrusts, biting down hard into his shoulder as the two of you came together. Neither of you moved for a moment, basking in the pleasure comedown. Eventually you moved your head to look at him, frowning as you saw he looked a bit sheepish.
"Sorry. I-uh don't know where that came from." You kissed him again before hopping back down onto the floor.
"Don't apologise, that was bloody amazing." You picked up your discarded clothes and put them back on. "I think if you spoke to me like that all the time you wouldn't even need to touch me. I don't know where it came from but you better bring it back." You grinned, helping him button his shirt back up. "I meant what I said though, every word." You placed your hand on his cheek and rubbed your thumb along his cheekbone.
"What? 'Fuck me harder, please. Just use me'?" He smirked. You slapped his chest.
"No- well yes, that too. But I meant when I said I'd never want anybody else, you're the only person for me George, no matter who else comes along. I really hope I'm not the death of you because I don't think I could live without you.." You kissed him as he smiled. "I certainly couldn't handle Fred without you." You joked, fixing your hair and ready to go.
"M'lady." George opened the door and beckoned you out.
"Why thank you good sir." You took a step out and tripped over George's massive foot (oi oi), yanking him with you as you tumbled to the ground. George landed on top of you and you both started laughing.
"I really do love you, even if you have the mouth of a sailor sometimes."
"Idiot."
"Yeah but I'm your idiot." He leaned down and kissed you again before resting his forehead on yours.
"Wouldn't have it any other way.. But you should probably get back to your dorm, even I've got to be in bed in the next 10 minutes." He groaned and rolled off you, getting up and offering you his hand.
"Come back with me? I don't like sleeping on my own, I got used to you snoring in my ear. Fred and Lee wont care and Kenneth can keep his gob shut or he'll be sleeping with one eye open for the rest of the year." He asked, not wanting to let you go just yet.
"I don't sno-"
"Please?"
"Okay." You agreed, linking his arm with yours and heading towards the Gryffindor common room.
"Say, Y/N? What are you doing this time next week?"
"I'd like to think I have a meeting in that cupboard back there with the hottest beater there's ever been." You grinned, excited at the idea of this being a regular thing.
"That's a shame. I was going to ask if I could go in the cupboard with you. But if you'd prefer someone else.." He played dumb, loosening his grip on your arm and walking ahead. You ran behind him and jumped on his back, wrapping your arms and legs around him.
"You're lucky you're cute or you'd drive me mad George Weasley."
"Just keeping you on your toes love."
2K WORDS. JUST FOR YOU GUYS
Was their ire and spiteful nature exclusively directed at the Pale King? Some retainers of the palace would say yes. Others would object and say it extended to the Five Great Knights as well since Ogrim had yet to hold onto his charm for longer than a day and Hegemol continued to wield a pole instead of a mighty hammer.
Well if you asked the source, they would simply stare at you silently, but you might get the impression that they had strong opinions (a wild thing for a vessel to have) on a few individuals other than the King.
Which is why the Feral Vessel is currently running for their life with the Great Nailmaster Sly hot on their back.
“Give it back you impetuous brat!” Sly roars behind them as he bounces off the walls at unfathomable speeds. Ghost, now going by Feral, is only surviving thanks to their knowledge of Sly’s moves from the Godseeker’s Pantheons. Sly’s jumps are still wildly unpredictable to them, but their now longer legs help them meet the speed needed to dodge the flea’s grabs.
Why are they doing this in the first place?
Well because when a rule is made that the Feral Vessel isn’t allowed a nail in the palace, or in any location in Hollownest, the only reasonable way to follow that rule, if you are said Feral Vessel, is to obtain nails of increasing ridiculous sizes. They first took their sibling’s old nail after the Pure Vessel grew out of it, and then they continued from there. They thought of borrowing Sheo’s nail for a day, but they quickly realized after finding the three Nailmasters that they were still the three Nailstudents. They were adorable but small and didn’t have their nails.
So Sly was there and Feral had some lingering rage left over from the Pantheons and well, the decision wasn’t hard to make. Two aspids with one stone. Now they were finding out that conceptualizing that plan and executing that plan were completely different things.
How do they get him off their back!? They already tried losing him through the maze that is the White Palace but they could not build any distance between them and Sly to make the endless corners and hallways useful. They need something- anything-
A-HA! One of Hornet’s web traps! (ingenious sticky things that clung ruthlessly to the clothing of the royals that walked this palace.)
Feral musters up their soul to push themself into one last burst of speed. They dash over the top of the trap just as they hear Sly zooming right at their back. With a twist of their leg and a firm grip on the oversized nail they spin at the last moment and swat the flea with his own nail into the poorly hidden nest of sticky silk.
The indignant yell of rage made that whole marathon worth it.
Not wanting to squander their momentary freedom from Sly’s wrath, they quickly turn and hightail it out of there.
Left. Straight. Left. Right. Straight. Straight. Up. Up. Right. Left-
That should be enough, right? Feral slows down and leans against a wall to catch their breath. Great Pale Beings they have not felt that much adrenaline since the first time they danced with Grimm. They were safe, for now. Feral straightens up, adjusts the greatnail onto their back and looks around.
...
They glance back from where they came.
Where... is this? They know the palace like the back of their hand, even without the buzzsaws. This corridor isn’t familiar. There is only one open doorway with a shining pale light gently leaking into the tiled hallway. Curious yet cautious they approach. They had a sharp greatnail after all.
They step into the light and freeze as they see the towering form of the Queen leaning like a drifting tree over a lush bush. Her back was turned to them, maybe they could-
“Vessel,” her voice, even though a whisper is loud enough to seem like she’s speaking at normal volume. Feral had noticed that with all of the higher and pale beings they’ve known. They all whisper.
Still, they had conflicting feelings toward their mother that they hadn’t yet put into words. They were avoiding her. They still want to avoid her.
“Come, garden with me,” she says, not lifting her head an inch from her work. Feral itches to disobey, but the urge feels wrong. It doesn’t carry the same gleeful note that comes with directly ignoring the King’s orders. They don’t have a solid reason to dislike their mother and it doesn’t feel right to force one either.
It’s not often they feel hesitant, but the Queen has a fae-like air about her. She could hide cruel remarks in what seem to be compliments. They had seen her pick apart arguments to the letter until her opponent had nothing else to say. She wields her words like she would a nail, and a battlefield of diction is an area Feral is massively lacking in. Hopefully she doesn’t want much. Hopefully she wants them to retrieve some confusing herb or something.
Carefully, they enter the room— a green house— and slowly make their way over to the White Lady’s side. They peer over at what she’s tending to. It looks like a bundle of dozens of little blue buds. Her hands glow underneath and the flowers respond by drifting up gradually and opening their delicate petals.
Feral watches quietly.
“They are not what they make themself appear to be,” she says after a long pause. Feral tenses. She reaches to her side where a basket of tools hangs from a kingsmould that Feral didn’t realize was there and picks up a humorously small pair of scissors compared to her massive hands. She carefully begins to snip the bases of those small flowers, collecting them in one hand as they fall, “My senses may be fading as things do with time, but I am not yet so blind to see that they know things that they should not.”
Feral never tried to hide their emotions and personality when they emerged from the Abyss, but they found themself smothering their nervousness before it could leak out of them.
“… they are nervous?” The Queen finally turns to look at Feral with her slightly glassy blue eyes, “I did not intend my words to be a threat, but their reaction proves my thoughts correct.”
Feral maintains as much eye contact as they can before turning their gaze to the floor. The full force of a pale being’s attention wasn’t a thing most bugs could endure. She watches them. Silent. Considering.
“It is odd. I have wanted children of my own for so long, yet what I have received from this world is curious,” she turns back to the blue flowers and snips two more into her hand, “one offspring that is meant to be empty, yet wishes to be a child, and one offspring that acts like a child, yet has experienced more than a child should have.”
Feral feels an odd twisting in their gut. They want to leave, yet they now also want to stay. The Queen is perceptive, that was never a doubt and perhaps another reason why they avoided her. The fear of being known. Yet… now they are known and it’s more of a relief than anything. They slowly look back to her as she places the scissors back in the basket.
“I have wondered why, but I cannot come to a conclusion that satisfies me,” she places three flowers in her spare hand and begins to braid the stems, adding flowers as the braids start becoming short.
“Why do they hold their branch as if it were the familiar handle of a nail? Even though they are forbidden from holding their own?” More flowers are added into the craft she is making. It’s beginning to look circular. Feral watches quietly.
“How do they know to get charms and spells on their own?” She glances over at them, but doesn’t meet their eyes. They sense her gaze on their horns. She looks back down at the flowers and makes some sort of adjustment.
"Why do they stare at things that are not there?” Feral’s throat tightens with that question- or observation?
The Queen finally finishes whatever is in her hands and takes a step over to the Feral Vessel and leans down with an alien-like grace. Feral blinks as she threads the circle of flowers over their horns to then rest right at the base of their horns. They do not know why she is doing this, but they would not dare fight it. They have no desire to.
Her hands drift down from their horns to their face to gently cup and hold. Their eyes gently flutter. The warmth from her root palms seep into their mask as if they were sitting in a hot spring. With the warmth comes a feeling of peace. Understanding. Their eyes close and before they can catch themself they lean into her touch. They miss how her eyes soften as she rubs one of her thumbs against their temple.
“I thought I had been mistaken before, but I have noticed that their pranks on my beloved Wyrm have grown half hearted,” Feral’s chest sags in a mock-sigh and, not knowing why, they nod.
“Has the novelty of his frustrated yells gone stale?” They shake their head, shoulders lightly quivering as if laughing. They crack their eyes open to catch the end of a smile from their mother.
“Why is it then? Why have they lost their fire?”
Feral stays silent as that was all they can do, but the tightening of their brow and the way they pull away from the warm comfort of their mother’s hands speaks hundreds of unspoken words. They glance at their hands, clenching and unclenching them.
When they re-awoke at the bottom of the Abyss surrounded by the thousands of masks of their dead siblings they thought they had dream nailed the black egg at the bottom of the Abyss again, though they did not know how. Soon they realized after getting to the top alongside their sibling that it was not a dream, but reality. To their delight, they could act on their spans of anger and spite they had toward the Pale King.
They thought that once they had their fun they would go and defeat the Radiance by finding the Godseeker in the trash pit. They would scale the pantheons and destroy the infection before the Pure Vessel was sentenced to waste away in the Temple of the Black Egg. It was simple so they didn’t think hard about it.
Until they realized they didn’t have the dream nail. They stressed for a bit, but then thought they could go find the seer and ask for it again! When they made their way to the Resting Grounds however, her little burrow was nowhere to be seen. They truly panicked then, scouring Hollownest for any moths they could find, but the few ones they found were not the Seer. When they held up their, admittedly, crude drawings of the dream nail they were met with confused stares.
They felt scared, frustrated, anger, desperation and then numbness.
They had been trying to run away from these thoughts, but now they were back and plainly showing on their face for the Queen to read like a tablet. There is a long silence between them before her melody-like voice whispers once more.
“Do they know how to write?” She asks.
They shake their head. No. They barely knew how to read and that was from noticing patterns in the tablets and signs they stumbled across in Hollownest. The Queen stands up and with her Feral’s eyes follow.
“I will teach you my child. Come, and perhaps while you learn you may give me your name. Feral is such a harsh word to be called by.”
Feral watches the White Lady as she walks deeper into the greenhouse. Did she just… say she was going to teach them how to write? They would never have a voice to speak on their own with, but to have the power of script in their grasp…
Excitement sparks their step as they quickly run back to her side, looking up at her with such strong wonder that she can’t believe she ever doubted her offspring weren’t hollow. The crown of flowers bounce on their head with each eager step.
“Now it will take some time for us to get the right writing utensils, but perhaps the first thing you could tell me when you can write is how you got that massive nail on your back.”
chapter one
Not again.
This was starting to become a recurring theme - it was Monday and your bus had just left without you. You mumbled profanities under your breath, your duffle bag slung across your shoulder. Frustrated you slumped against a street lantern, when you felt the first drops of rain on your skin. You let out a groan of anger and pulled your hood up over your head, cursing yourself for staying up too late last night. But because you anticipated this, you had already put on your leotard and tights on at home, so when you got to class you’d only have to strip your clothes and start your warm up.
Last week you had gotten whacked on the head with a newspaper for being that late, but with a little bit of luck you wouldn’t have to endure that today.
When you arrived in the ballet studio almost an hour later you were soaked and freezing. You ran through the halls of the studio, already in the process of taking off your jacket and shirt, revealing your dancing clothes underneath. Three minutes left to go.
Your usual locker was already occupied, making you rush to the next best one, ripping the door open, throwing all your clothes in there and only taking your training ballerinas out and slamming the door shut. You had done your hair in the bus already, so it was in a low tight knot. You put your shoes on, running toward the door. One minute left.
“How kind of you to join us today on time,” Sophie, your dance teacher said, following you with her eyes as you took your position. Everyone in the room was staring at you and you could feel their looks drilling in your back. Tom next to you was bowing his head down, obviously trying to hide his laughter. You shot him a poisonous look, rage as well as embarrassment burned inside you. Tom had a special power of making your anger levels go from 0 to 100.
“I’m sorry, ma’am,” you said, your face running hot.
“Let’s start with the warm up, shall we?”
“Why is everyone whispering and staring at me,” you whispered through gritted teeth to your friend Hannah, who was helping you stretch. “Ouch!”
“Loosen up,” Hannah whispered, pulling you even closer to her. You were sitting in front of each other on the floor, pushing the others’ legs out. “Haven’t you seen the role sheet today?”
“Fuck,” you whispered, partially because of the stretch, but also because you had forgotten that today the roles for the upcoming show were published. You must’ve not seen the sheet in the locker rooms. “What role did I get?”
Hannah shook her head as you pulled her towards you, adjusting her pose. “You got the role of Odette.”
You immediately let go of Hannah, slapping your hand on your mouth, making her fall forward. You grabbed her shoulders. “I got the main role?” You whisper-screamed, trying your hardest not to get caught by Sophie. “Well, who is playing the prince?”
Hannah cringed and turned her gaze to the side, where a few of your colleagues were standing. Instead of stretching they were very obviously flirting with… Tom. He must’ve noticed you staring at him, as he turned his head and met your gaze. Both of you rolled your eyes as you turned away from each other. “You can’t be serious,” you said.
“I’m sorry,” Hannah huffed, sweat pearling on her dark forehead. “But hey, congrats on the role?”
You finished stretching and continued with your training, going through forms and positions, polishing your moves and getting scolded for flailing your arms too much. As you were approaching your first break, Sophie stepped towards you.
“We will begin with your training for Swan Lake today at 3, make sure to bring your pointe shoes.”
“Yes, ma’am,” you said, your heart fluttering at the idea of dancing to your favourite show. The fluttering quickly vanished when you noticed Sophie walking up towards Tom, telling him the same. So you’d already dance with him today.
You tried to shake the bad feeling and it mostly worked, since focusing on your dream always made things easier. Dancing and performing was a way for you to let go, to get completely lost in the story and think about nothing else. There wasn’t much in the world that could ruin that for you.
Oh how wrong you had been.
“I have never seen people with less chemistry than you two,” Sophie sighed. You have never heard her be this exasperated and desperate. “Do you two even dance? Are you really professional dancers? Where did your grace go, where did the love for dance go! Look each other in the eyes for God’s sake!”
“It’d be easier if you didn’t squeeze the hell out of me,” you spat through gritted teeth.
“It’d be easier if you weren’t this heavy,” Tom spat back, his face falling immediately after he realized what he had said.
You jumped out of his grip, staring in disbelief. “Well-” you stammered, not knowing what to retort. “How about you get a little stronger…”
Sophie whacked him with her newspaper over the head. “That is NOT something you say to a lady!” Tiny strands of hair were escaping her neat bun, making her look even more stressed than she was. “We’re finishing this part today and then you two can go home.”
“Sorry,” Tom mumbled under his breath.
“Save it,” you said, taking your start position. Kneeling down on the floor, Odette would wait for the prince to come and lift her up to start the dance with her. In the original the two would fall in love the minute they laid eyes on each other. You tried to do the choreography justice, although your dance partner made it incredibly difficult for you.
“Smile!” Sophie shouted, making you two put on fake plastic grins.
“I’ll spit on your face on stage,” you said through your grin as Tom lifted you up, making you look down on him.
"Do that and I'll rip your lashes off," he said softly while lowering you on the ground again.
You tried to continue the choreography without any incidents but you couldn't help but feel every step, every nudge to be executed with a hint of passive aggression. Tom basically let you fall on the ground instead of putting you down, you avoided each other's eyes, grabbed too harshly, turned too sharply.
"Alright," Sophie said after about four hours of it. "I can't watch this any longer. You both know the choreography, and that's all I can teach you for now. If you don't know how to be nice to each other, don't bother coming to me for help until you do. We'll work on the solos and the other dances first, until you two calmed down. Dismissed."
You slumped down on the floor, rubbing your face. You untied your shoes and took them off, throwing them in your bag. This was going to be hard.
“So how was it?” Hannah asked while the two of you sat on the studio floor.
As an answer you slammed your pointe shoes on the ground several times, breaking them in a way that made them comfortable for your foot. “Take a wild guess.”
She raised her eyebrows as she was sewing the elastic band into her shoe. “What did Sophie say?”
“She refuses to work with us anymore until we get it together,” you grumbled. You slammed your fist on the top of your shoe, softening the box. Suddenly the door opened, making you and Hannah turn your heads.
Tom was marching in the room, directly towards you.
“What the hell,” you mumbled, putting your shoe down and looking up at him as he stopped in front of you. “Can I help you?”
“Are you free today after class?”
You raised an eyebrow, looking at him up and down and smirked. “Are you asking me out?”
Tom crossed his arms, not saying anything. His foot was tapping impatiently on the floor which was tiled with dancing tiles.
“Yeah, I am. See you then,” you said, rolling your eyes. You waved as a good bye, signalling him to leave you alone. You turned to Hannah. “He told me I was too heavy to lift.” “Excuse me?” You shrugged, taking the thread and the needle. Your friend slapped her hands on her thighs in exasperation. “What an ass.”
You finished sewing and breaking in your shoes while talking about anything other than Tom - mostly Hannah’s new date she was going to see that very day. It was nice talking about something else, preparing yourself for class. You could feel that today was going to be a slow one - you eased into your shoes, then into your stretches, and finally into your training, testing out the waters with your new footwear and getting more comfortable as the day progressed. Your mind was empty, completely free of oppressive and depressing thoughts. Your body moved in unison with the music, following the tides of the melody, back and forth seemingly weightless and freed of gravity.
Before you knew it afternoon rolled around and class finished. You packed your stuff, and settled down in the locker room to have some lunch and lie down, coming down from your training.
As always your lunch break went by way too fast. You stood up, shaking your limbs and grabbing your things to go back to the now empty studio. Tom was nowhere to be found, so you warmed quickly up on your own. Your body had cooled down a bit, and you didn’t want to pull a muscle or something, so you did a few squats, jumping jacks and push ups to get moving again. You took your position at the railing in front of the mirror, practicing positions and movements, taking your sweet time. The clock ticked in the back of the room, showing 3.16pm. Where the hell was Tom?
At that moment the door swung open.
“Took you long enough,” you said in an arabesque pose.
“Sorry,” he said, getting in and throwing his duffle bag in the corner of the room.
You put your foot down, looking at him properly. You raised your eyebrows at his childish demeanor. You were already annoyed by him. “Bad day?”
He plonked down on the floor and began to put on his shoes. “I just want this day to be over.”
“Well then cheer up, do you expect me to dance with an energy as bad as yours?”
He looked at you incredulously. “Can’t I be in a bad mood? Do I have to be all sunshine and daisies all the time?” His voice rose now, making you back away a little, but you weren’t having none of that. You had an idea.
“I just said to lose the fucking attitude,” you said, getting louder now as well.
“What if i don’t want to?! God, you’re annoying!”
You took a deep breath putting force in your voice. “Then scream it out, because I don’t want to deal with this!” His hands turned into fists, his eyes lighting up a tiny little bit at the memory your words just triggered. But he was still angry. “Fuck you!”
“No, fuck YOU!”
And without a cue you two just started wordlessly screaming in the other’s face, a prolonged and agonizing scream, throwing it all out. Dancing didn’t require vocal chords, so you had no qualms absolutely shredding yours. You didn’t know if anyone else was in the building, but you didn’t care.
As you two ran out of breath your shoulders slumped, moving heavily up and down as you gasped for air. The room was awfully quiet except for your breathing. Your bodies seemed to mirror each other, more in sync than when you tried to be. Destruction seemed to be more constructive to the relationship between you two than anything else.
You swallowed, standing up straight. “Can we start now?”
Again you were on the floor, folded over in your starting position. You had decided to train without music, so you jumped a little as Tom’s hands touched your wrists, softer than usual. He lifted you up off the floor, placing his hands on your waist. This dance wasn’t particularly difficult or demanding, but for it to work you need a prince who guides Odette just enough without gripping her too tight, and an Odette who knows how much to rely on the prince and how much on herself. There were a few hang ups here and there, but you danced through the whole routine without saying anything once, enjoying the flow of your movements. The dance was still clinical, mostly about getting the order of the moves right. It ended with Tom lifting you up, and slowly lowering you down, and bringing your faces together, hinting at a kiss between you two. You still needed to work on that part.
“So,” he said as you jumped away as the dance ended. “With music this time?”
You nodded. “Maybe don’t grip me this tight when I do the pirouettes,” you said. You took a sip of water and put the bottle away. “I can basically do them on my own, just give me a quick spin and I’ll be able to do them faster.”
“Alright,” he said, getting into position. “But try to do your moves independently from me. It’ll make them look better.”
You folded over on the floor and waited for the music to start. When it started you closed your eyes for a second anticipating the touch on your wrists. Still it sent a jolt through you. “Softer,” you said as you did your pirouette, and the grip on your waist turned to a fleeting touch every few moments, accelerating your turns.
“Lean in properly,” Tom said as you leaned in his hands to the side to lift your leg. You did as told and managed to lift your leg even higher and with less effort. He lifted you by the waist, brows furrowed the slightest in concentration, turning in a circle. Your hands rested on his shoulders, eyes trained on him. You wondered if Odette really fell in love with the prince on sight.
The routine went smoother with each time you tried it, your movements dynamic and easy like a well oiled machine.
After a while you decided to call it a day, and after you awkwardly said your goodbyes, you went home. Suddenly you didn’t know how to act around him, everything you did felt clumsy and weird. You were used to being annoyed by him and just being generally mad at him. But now that you had to cooperate and put those things aside, what was left?
a.n.: this is the first chapter of maybe two or three, lmk what you think! this is the first time i post to tungle, be kind lmfao
“it makes her think of me, and that night we left our hearts on our sleeves and our clothes all over the floor”
You find yourself releasing yet another deep sigh as your father beckons you from across the ballroom, but you still put in your brightest smile as you make your way through the heavy throng of people, preparing to be introduced to yet another business associate who's name you'll forget way before the end of the night.
"This is my daughter, Y/N"
He was already gesturing and introducing you by the time you made it to the place next to him, and you accepted the hand of the older man standing in front of you.
"Oh she's grown very well, such a pretty girl"
"You aren't the only one to think so, she was recently crowned Queen of the Seoul Pageant, you're looking at a future Miss Korea"
You tried to keep yourself from cringing as your father blatantly boasted about you, hoping the other man would pretend not to notice.
He didn't, instead he did something even worse.
"Oh that's great, my son is about the same age, he just performed his third concert at the Golden Hall of Vienna"
You could see your father controlling his face as to not appear impressed, but when the other man turned around to find his son, you got the pointed look you knew meant 'be better than whatever his child is'.
The man turns back around and you pretend to pay attention while he introduces his son who isn't there yet, the exact same thing your father did.
At the end of his sentence a boy your age approaches, and it might be the first time you've actually been interested in something going on all night.
Because my goodness, he is gorgeous.
"Chenle, this is Mr.Y/L/N"
He shakes your fathers hand and you can't spot a single thing he does that is less than perfect.
"I was just telling him about your concert a few weeks ago"
There's a flicker of something in his eyes and you think maybe he feels the same thing as you, though he quickly recovers into the golden boy he's expected to be.
"Oh I hope you weren't bragging, it wasn't anything that special"
"Now don't be so humble Mr.Chenle, that is very impressive"
You laid on the charm you knew your father wanted, and his short nod of confirmation validated your thoughts.
It seemed that Chenle hadn't noticed you until the words left your mouth, and his eyes seemed to shine when he did.
"You are very beautiful Miss.L/N"
"She's going to be Miss Korea"
You made sure only Chenle could see your small eye roll as your fathers launched into another round of 'my-child-is-better-than-yours".
"How about I get the lovely lady a drink?"
Both of your fathers seem thrilled by the idea, and you weren't going to pass on an opportunity to get away, so you politely nodded and let him lead you away.
"You are an angel, thank you for saving me from that conversation"
He laughed at your immediate character switch, "I hope you weren't there for too long before I got there to save you".
"Doesn't even matter, as long as we're safe now"
He laughed at your dramatic phrasing, walking straight past the bar and towards the front door.
"You wanna get out of here"
"I thought you'd never ask"
He pulled you along with him out the doors, getting his car from the valet and driving out onto the main road.
You inhaled the scent of lemon and new car while you fiddled with the radio, Chenle tapping his fingers on the arm rest while he spoke out loud about ideas of where you could go.
By the time you pull up to some random fancy hotel, you're both laughing to the point of stomach pain, and you don't know why but you had never felt so comfortable with someone so quickly.
"Hello I'd like an executive suite"
You zoned out while he spoke to the woman at the counter, and was only pulled back in when he wrapped his arms around you and yanked you towards his body.
You looked up with wide eyes, but a quick scan of the scene told you what was going on, and your eyes narrowed at where the female worker had her hand still hovering over Chenle's chest, obviously having just been removed from an attempt at flirting. The current contact you had with the boy and the two pairs of eyes on you told you that he had used you as a cover, and he had obviously said something, something they were both waiting for you to respond to.
"I'm pregnant"
They both looked at you, the woman's eyes wide with horror, Chenle's wide with bewilderment, probably at why that was your panicked response.
You looked up to meet his eyes and you both immediately broke into loud laughs, Chenle swiping the key cards from the counter as you both ran towards the first hallway, his hand holding yours the entire way.
When you finally stepped out of the elevator and made it to your suite, there were tears dried on your face from laughing so hard, and Chenle was still teasing you.
"I'm pregnant," his words were once again cut off by his laughter and you smacked his chest as you inserted the card into the door and yanked it open, throwing yourself onto the bed while he came in still laughing.
He tossed himself next to you, turning onto his side and propping his chin on his hand to looks at your face.
"I told her that we had just gotten married and needed a room" he wiggled his eyebrows as you laughed, mirroring his actions as you turned to look at him in the same manner.
"Well I said I was pregnant, so at least she won't get the wrong idea about what we're doing up here"
"Oh yeah? What do you think she's thinking?"
His voice gets softer and he leans in towards your face, to the point where your lips are only centimeters away.
"You know"
"No I don't think I do?"
"The devils tango. The sideways salsa. The no pants dance. Hanky panky"
He had lost it by the first euphemism, but you kept going, although making him laugh that hard while being so close proved to be a bad idea, and you felt his head hit yours before you had the chance to move away.
"I was going to kiss you but after that I don't think I want to"
He barely got the words out between his laughs and you acted offended, although disappointment was the real emotion you were feeling.
"Why? Because I'm too funny?"
"Yeah, uh-huh that's totally it"
He had finished his laughing fit and was able to speak clearly, a smile on his face while he rolled his eyes, continuing his path back to your lips.
You were barely a millimeter apart when your phone started ringing, both of your groans echoing throughout the room while you blindly reached for the device.
"Where are you? I cant find you and Chenle's father seems to not be able to locate him either. You better be making smart decisions. I'll let you go this time but we've got another party next week and you will be there the entire time"
Your fathers voice was loud through the phone, and you were sure Chenle heard every word.
"Ugh" you let out an angry groan as the voicemail finished, throwing the device somewhere across the room.
"Why do they always do this?"
Chenle got a similar text from his father, and now both of you were mad, knees touching as you sat angrily on the hotel bed.
"What do you think they'd do if we just ran away?"
He looked at you in amusement, not a single ounce of surprise in his gaze.
"I've thought about it, leave the city"
"Maybe the country" you added, and chenle let out a melodic laugh, content to sit in some random hotel with you and talk about running away together.
But that wasn't what you wanted right now.
Right now the thought on both of your minds was to make you fathers mad.
“You better kiss me before we get interrupted again”
You don’t have to tell him twice, within a second his lips are crashing into yours, tongues clashing and hands grabbing at whatever they can reach, both of you trying to contain your smiles at the feeling of freedom.
When you woke up the next day the alarm on the side table read 3:00 and a laugh left you mouth as you woke up the boy next to you.
“Chenle we were supposed to check out three hours ago”
His eyes widen but he joins in your laughter anyway, both rushing around the room to locate your belongings.
The same check in lady at the desk from yesterday glares at you as you run through the halls, and since you paid yesterday you thankfully don’t have to speak to her, Chenle just throwing the key card down on the front desk and running with you in his arms towards his car.
He was too busy dismissing calls from his father and screaming along with the radio to notice the way you slipped the other key card into your small purse.
“we both know we can’t open the door no more, but she kept the hotel key”
Ateez Reactions- Child From Another Relationship Calls Them Appa
Tumblr media
Seonghwa
Ever since Seonghwa found out you had a daughter he made sure to include her into your plans. Dates turned into play dates, weekends turned into time spent at home and once in a while if he wasn't busy he'd offer to watch her for you. It was easy to see that there was a bond forming between the two of them, and as much as it warmed your heart to see it, you were also scared because if either of you lost Seonghwa, you're not sure either of you would be able to survive it. So, you did what you always did, you started to push him away, leaving him out on activities with your daughter you knew he would be more than happy to attend. You were scared of adding Seonghwa to your life, because he made it so much easier on you and you didn't want to get used to him.
You and Seonghwa had both been pretty busy, you with work, school and your kid, him with everything that comes with being an idol. However, things were stressful and all you wanted was for someone to come and tell you that everything will be okay. Your daughter was playing with your phone, distracting herself while you were trying to clean the kitchen and silently let the tears roll down your cheeks. "Sweet girl, what are you doing calling me all by yourself?" you heard your boyfriend's voice causing your eyes to go wide, you quickly wiped the tears off of your cheeks before rushing over to see. He was fully dressed, with hair and makeup, probably about to go on stage "Sorry, I didn't think she knew how to facetime," you said waving at him through the phone but his eyebrows furrowed as he studied you.
"Honey, are you doing okay?" he asked and his question was enough to cause tears to well in your eyes "We're Fine Seonghwa, good luck with the show!" you cheered before hanging up on him and grabbing the phone from your daughter "Baby, when did you learn to facetime?" she asked her with a sigh. Later that night you watched Ateez on the stage, before tucking your daughter into bed. Just as you relaxed on the couch there was a knock on the door and you answered it only to find Seonghwa standing there. He didn't say anything, just stepping inside wrapping his arms around you burying his face into the side of your head. "When it's overwhelming, hold on tight, I'll be here, don't forget it. Cause sometimes in life we need a helping hand, you'll be alright just take it slow, one day at a time." He sung softly as you clung tightly onto him.
"Appa?" the both of you looked to see your daughter in her pajama's looking at Seonghwa, "Appa?" she said again before walking over towards the two of you. "Honey-" "Hello sweet girl, it's been a while hm?" Seonghwa said kneeling down scooping up the little one who snuggled into him sleepily. You watched as he took her back into her room and waited a couple minutes for him to come back out but he never did. You walked into the room to see him curled up on her tiny mattress with the little girl. "What are you doing?" you whispered trying to hid the smile, "She kept saying Appa don't go," he replied running his finger over her cheek "Sorry she calls you that..." he shook his head "I've always wanted to be a father," he said before looking at you "Thank you for giving me the opportunity," he said.
HongJoong
Hongjoong spent a lot of time with you and your son, in fact he spent most nights at your house instead of the dorms. He basically lived with you whenever he could because he loved spending time with the both of you. However, with the newest comeback just around the corner you had not seen him in a few weeks, he didn't even sneak into your bed late at night. You were worried but you knew he got like this around comeback season and it was best to let him go through the motions. That was until you got a call from the oldest member informing you that Hongjoong had been locked in his studio for the past three days. You made the executive decision to pack up what your son would need and meet Seonghwa at the KQ building.
"Oh he's cuter than the pictures Hongjong shows us," Seonghwa said waving at your child "He's also missing his partner in crime, where is the silly man?" you asked getting your baby to giggle. Seonghwa led you around the building until you finally got to Hongjoong's studio. He knocked on the door but there was no answer "Hongjoong, you need to get out of this stupid studio," Seonghwa scolded motherly at him. "Hyung, I still have a lot I need to prepare for the album, please leave me alone," Hongjoong shouted back at him and Seonghwa rolled his eyes "I brought someone to see you," he tried, "Tell them I'm busy!" you could tell Hongjoong was getting annoyed and you told Seonghwa to go off and do whatever he needed to do.
You set your son down on the floor before knocking on the door "Hyung-" "Joongie," you cut him off causing him to go silent "Baby... I'm super busy," he said calming down a little bit "But you need to take breaks otherwise your going to break down," you told him. "I know what I can handle," he said and it must have been the first time your son heard him clear enough because he started hitting his palm against the door. "Appa?" he said shocking you causing your eyes to widen "Appa! Appa!" he chanted hitting the door until it finally swung open to see an equally shocked Hongjoong "What did you just say?" he questioned squatting down in front of your son, who was just happy to see his favorite man "Appa!" he cooed before falling into Hongjoong's arms.
"He uh really missed you I guess," you said with an embarrassed fake laugh "I missed you too buddy," he said hugging the little guy and kissing the top of his head. "That's the kind of thing you're going to miss out on if you keep hiding away in this studio," you told him with a smile, Hongjoong sighed "I suppose I could go out to eat," he said getting you to clap happily before pulling your boys up to leave the studio behind. You couldn't help but feel happy seeing your son happily babbling at Hongjoong and your boyfriend paying attention to him almost as if the two of them were having an actual conversation. You watched as the stress slowly melted off your boyfriend.
Yunho
After your daughter had met Yunho, he started coming over for dinner almost every night. He would make silly faces at her from across the table, and put a phone book beneath her when she couldn't reach her plate. He played with her almost every day, whether they be horsing around on the floor, building legos, coloring or painting, pushing her on swings. He showed to you and to her that she was worth his time. Her first dad acted as if she didn't exist when he left, but she reappeared every time Yunho walked in through the door. He wasn't as strong as her first dad, but he hugged her longer. His laugh brighter than her father's anger, and he was gentle where her father was intense.
Yunho had started spending every night at your house, because your daughter seemed to have a better day when he tucked her in at night, and even better if he was there when she woke up in the morning. You were just happy that the two of them seemed to form such a close bond. You just worried that your daughter would get too attached and Yunho wouldn't feel it with the exact same intensity. However, he eased your mind time and time again when he was with your daughter, because he chose to be there, he chose to skip out on a night with the boys to see your daughter's dance recital, he chose to be in her life and have her in his.
Yunho came back very late that night and you sighed before wrapping your arms around him "Long day?" he questioned hugging you close to his chest. "She was asking for you all day," you complained with a pout "I'm starting to believe she loves you more than me," you added getting him to smile. "That's not true, you're her mom, she'll always love you the most," he said trying to comfort you but he couldn't hide the joy he felt that your daughter adored him so much. "I gotta see her," he said breaking from the hug and sneaking down the hallway to peek into her room, but then he actually went inside. Furrowing your eyebrows you walked over peeking through the doorway to see he was sitting on the edge of the bed, rubbing your daughter's back who was sleepily rubbing her eyes "What's wrong baby girl?" he questioned softly.
"Appa, do I get to keep you?" your daughter asked causing Yunho to break into a slight smile, chuckling softly "The real question is, do I get to keep you?" he asked. Your daughter moved to rest her head in his lap, "You can have me forever and ever," she mumbled before slowly drifting back to sleep, her hand clinging on tightly to his sweatpants. You looked at your boyfriend and saw him holding his hand over his mouth, tears rolling down his cheeks. You quietly went in there and knelt down in front of him "You alright?" you asked rubbing his arm, "I love her so much," he whispered wiping a tear off his cheek. You smiled "She loves you too," you told him looking down at the little girl "In her eyes you are her father now," you added and he kissed the top of her head.
Yeosang
Over the years as your son grew up, Yeosang was right at his side as if the kid was his. He wanted to be the one to catch him when he fell, but instead chose to pick him up, brush him off and let him try again. He wanted to keep your kid from making mistakes but instead let him find his own way, even though it broke his heart in silence when he got hurt. He always made sure to hold him when he cried, scold him when he broke the rules, shine with pride when he succeed and had faith even when the kid failed.
Suddenly the kid turned seventeen and his biological father came knocking on the door asking to be in his life. And being a young kid who always wondered who his real father was, who were you to stop him from this chance. What you didn't expect was for your son to become so hostile towards your boyfriend, the man who had been at the little guys side since the day he had met him. Although you knew it bothered Yeosang to have the kid's head filled with shit from your ex's head, he said nothing and took everything the young one said with a grain of salt.
Although the kid was a pain in the ass, Yeosang loved him and nothing could ever change that, even if the kid claimed he absolutely hated him. However, as the year rolled on, his biological father slowly started spending less and less time with him. In fact, he hadn't seen him in the last two months, but your son was determined that his father would still come and see him graduate. He invited him and everything, begged you and Yeosang to save him a seat even though both of you knew that dead beat was long gone by now. Yet, the two of you watched as your son walk across the stage to get his diploma looking right at the two of you with tears in his eyes.
After the entire ceremony was over your son walked over towards the two of you with his head hanging low. "He didn't show did he?" he questioned softly and you sighed deeply stroking his head "I'm sorry honey," you tried to console him, but your son just chuckled and shook his head before looking up at the two of you with a smile "It didn't really matter though did it? I've had the best appa at my side since I was three," he said and for the first time in years you saw Yeosang's eyes well up with tears as he pulled your son into his arms "You'll always have me at your side," he promised your son who hugged him back mumbling a quiet apology for how he's treated him. Yeosang just patted the back of his head "Nothing you ever say or do could make me love you less," he promised the young man.
San
You carried your daughter through the back halls of the concert hall, ever since she found a video of San preforming she had been begging you to go to a concert. However, you thought the crowds would be a little too rowdy for your young daughter. So, you talked with the leader of the group who talked to management and they were perfectly fine with you and your little one watching them preform from the side of the stage. As long as San wouldn't get too distracted, which is how you ended up not telling him the two of you were there because you knew he would not be able to focus with the two of you by off to the side.
Of course your daughter was excited to see San preform as he had become her favorite human on the planet. She had become so wiggly, trying to dance along with the boys that you had to set her down so she could wiggle around. You watched her intensely but Wave was your favorite song so you couldn't help but get a little distracted by the performance. Towards the end of the song the cheering became intense and you assumed it was due to the boys, but when you looked down beside you, you found that your daughter had escaped you. Panicked you look around only to find her on stage shielding her eyes from the lights.
Once the song ended all the boys still hadn't even noticed that the little girl had ran onto the stage until the fans died down. "Appa," your daughter called running around until she found him causing everyone to coo at her, "Are you calling for me?" San questioned kneeling down in front of the little one. "Appa I found you!" she squealed throwing her arms around his neck. San scooped her up with a bright smile that looked like hers "Were you here the whole time?" he asked her tickling her stomach causing her to giggle. "I wanted to watch Appa dance," she said getting everyone to awe at her cuteness "San since when did she start calling you appa?" Wooyoung asked butting in, almost as if he was jealous of him.
But your daughter misunderstood the question "Is Sannie not my Appa?" she asked quietly looking at your boyfriend confused "I am baby, I'm your Appa, of course I am," he promised her giving her a kiss on her cheek. "But we have a show to do, so can you be a good girl for me and wait with eomma?" he asked setting her down and she nodded her head "Appa fighting!" she cheered with her little fists before running back over to you. "You were supposed to stay by me," you scolded her half hearted "But you can't stay away from Appa, so why should I have to?" she questioned and honestly you didn't have an answer for her. "He's good isn't he?" you asked getting her to nod her head.
Mingi
You and Mingi were cooking dinner together while your son was in the living room watching Frozen and coloring. It had become a tradition for you and Mingi to make dinner every Friday night, this happened because he found out you hadn't been giving him quote unquote proper meals. You were busy chopping the vegetables when your son came running into the room holding a piece of paper. "Appa! Look what I drew," your son said walking up to Mingi, and he froze looking at your son wide eyed. "It's me, appa and eomma," he said showing him the stick figure crayon drawings with all of them holding hands. "I understand if it's too soon for-" Mingi knelt down by the little boy and kissed her forehead "It's beautiful baby," he praised before hanging it up on the fridge.
You couldn't hide the smile that was on your lips as you watched Ming and your son interact with each other. You watched as Mingi got him all ready to go with her biological father. When your ex arrived to pick her up, he rolled his eyes looking at Mingi "You be a good boy," Mingi said running his hand over his head "I'm always a good boy appa," he replied giving him a kiss before walking up to his biological father. "Hey, you know I am your father right?" he asked grabbing the little boy's arm getting him to look into his intense eyes. Both you and Mingi could see he was a bit scared "That guy is nothing to you," he added pointing towards Mingi. Your son looked at Mingi with wide eyes and tears rolling down his cheeks "Appa," he whispered and suddenly Mingi couldn't hold back.
He walked up to your ex, grabbed his wrist pulling it off the little guy, who went running behind him towards you "You're scaring her," Mingi said quietly before throwing his arm. "He's suppose to come with me tonight," your ex replied as your son clung onto you "I don't think he wants to go with you," Mingi replied and when your ex tried to enter the apartment he stood in the way "What do you fucking care, he isn't your blood, doesn't have your name!" your ex shouted. "So? He's my son, and that's my choice, he isn't my blood but he's my guy," Mingi replied "Take us to court or whatever, but you aren't placing a hand on this boy as long as I'm here," he added before shutting the door in your ex's face.
He then walked over to the two of you and helped get your son's shoes and jacket off. He was worried your son would be a bit scared of him thanks to his father but it turned out to be the exact opposite. He was afraid not to be in Mingi's presence, if he left the room, he did too asking "Appa where are you going?" and you could tell it boosted his ego that the little boy wanted to be with him every second. Your son fell asleep on top of his chest and he didn't have the heart to put him in bed in case he woke up and wondered where he was. "You're so good to him," you complemented resting your head on his shoulder "He's my guy," he replied running his hand up and down his back.
Wooyoung
You and Wooyoung were nervous when you twenty year old daughter came home wanting to have an important conversation with the two of you. After you all had settled she turned towards the two of you and that's when you noticed the little diamond ring on her left hand. "I'm getting married," she said simply and the two of you exploded in tears and hysterics that your little girl had gotten so old so quickly, but at the same time happy she finally had found a love like the two of you had. You two were busy hugging and kissing her to even let to get through everything she wanted to.
Once she had gotten you two to calm down and sit down on the couch she then looked directly at Wooyoung before blushing and looking away. "I actually have a question for... Uh Wooyoung," she said pulling a sheet of paper out of her back pocket, obviously nervous about what she wanted to say to him. "Even though you're not my father. I know that you'll be there with the little things you do you let me know you care. You've always been there to help, whatever the need may be, and you've given of yourself and so unselfishly... It takes a strong man to accept someone else's child and step up to the plate another man left at the table."
"I know I have a biological father, but to me you're so much more than him," she said looking at him with tears in her eyes "You married a single mother fresh out of an abusive relationship and helped raise me. You didn't have to but you did. And your the one I call Appa," she said causing you to look at Wooyoung because it was the first time she had ever used that term towards him and he was drowning in tears. "Appa," she said walking over taking his hand in hers "Would you please walk me down the aisle when I get married?" she questioned causing Wooyoung to pull her down into his lap as if she was still the toddler he met all those years ago. "Of course I would princess," he said holding her tight in his arms, and she hugged him back with the same amount of vigor.
Of course, your daughter still had somewhat of a relationship with her father, so she invited him to the wedding. Your ex apparently thought that your daughter had chose to walk herself down the aisle because he was very taken back when Wooyoung was holding her on his arm as he walked her down the aisle with tears in his eyes. He was so reluctant to let his little girl go, causing everyone to laugh as she pulled him into one more hug whispering something in his ear. Finally he let her go with a kiss to the cheek and sat down next to you with tear stained eyes. "That's my girl," he whispered to you watching as the young one got married, your two teenage boys sitting beside you, "She'll always be your girl," you promised him holding his hand.
Jongho
Being a dad isn't defined as the man who makes the child, but rather a man who extends his hands and time to help with the child's raising and his heart to love the child through anything. Blood doesn't always make you a father. Being a dad comes from the heart, anyone can make a baby but it takes a real man to raise a child. And although he was scared a first, and nervous for at least the first year of their relationship, eventually he had settled into the role and the years just seemed to fly by.
Of course you ex decided now that the kid was older he wanted to be in the child's life, and you allowed him to because your twelve year old was so desperate to know the man who gave him life. However, your ex got tired of it after having your son for the weekend. After dropping him back off at your home, he informed you that he was moving out of the country and that he probably wouldn't be in contact with you for years to come. You of course gave him a piece of your mind for putting your son through all of this just to end up and leave him once again.
You son closed up a bit after you explained the situation, deciding to always sit in his room alone. You were worried about him but you didn't want to see like one of those parents who didn't give their kids any privacy. That's when you noticed your boyfriend standing outside staring up at the house, and suddenly he was climbing the side of the house. You quickly rushed outside about to ask what was going on when you heard the soft voice of your son "I always wondered why he didn't want me and why he didn't love me when he was my own flesh and blood," you son muttered causing your heart to break.
"But growing up with your constant love and care, I realized that you are my appa," your son said, "And he is my biological father. And being a appa to a boy who needed a father figure in his life will forever be more important than DNA," your son said causing your eyes to well with tears. "I don't need him when I have you, right?" he asked and you peaked to see the two of them on the roof, your son engulfed in Jongho's arms, "Right," he mumbled into the top of your son's head before letting him go. "So, when are you going to marry mom? She's itching to have another kid you know," your son teased getting Jongho to roll his eyes "Who says you don't have a brother on the way?"
Sunday [6:30 p.m.]
You were laying on your bed in your dorm running your fingers through Kei’s hair while he listened to music. This is how you spent most rainy weekends. He was quietly humming to his overly loud music but you were kind of in a daze looking at the wall but not quite. You did this a lot while staring off in your faraway land, thinking of a future with him but it’s not something you would tell him. You were too afraid he didn’t feel the same way. You knew he loved you, nearly two years into college and you both are still going strong but what if he never thought about it.
“Hey, shorty! Whatcha thinking about?” He looked up at you. “Oh, nothing really just some assignment my professor mentioned in class today,” you lied trying to brush it off quickly. He just shrugged and asked, “Ok...  Umm…Wanna listen to music with me? I’ll play my playlist you like.” You nodded, “I’ll get my Bluetooth headphone…” he pulled on your wrist. “I’ll share these with you,” he held up his regular earbuds and you agreed. If that’s what he wants, it was fine with you.
Tsukishima would never admit it but sharing his earbuds like this with you made him feel more connected like sharing your energy, a sort of bond, it was romantic for him. The thought of it always made the tips of his ears turn pink. He switched positions to have you lay next to him, your face buried in his chest. Silently, he prayed you couldn’t feel his heart quicken as he rested his head atop yours and hand on your waist. Headphones plugged on the playlist began. A few songs in a familiar song started to play, a love song, one of your favorites. “Babe? This song …” you started but he shushed you. “I know. I know. I added it because I knew you liked it ok now just listen ok. It’s no big deal,” his fingers played along your spine only making you feel more nervous. Your thoughts began to wander as more of your favorite romantic songs played. At this point, it was 7:30 PM and there was one thought that couldn’t leave your mind ‘What’s our song?’ and before you knew it you started talking, “Hey um Kei? What’s our song?” You regretted it as soon as you asked. “Huh? What do you mean our song?” he questioned his voice slightly drowsy and muffled by your hair. “It’s just… you know what it’s nothing,” you brushed it off and tried to continue listening to the music but he paused it.
“Spit it out y/n,” he said looking at you, it wasn’t meant to be rude, he just preferred you to be straightforward. You didn’t intend to make a mini-rant but it happened, “You know our song. It like a song for us that describes us and no matter where or who we’re with when it plays we think of each other. Or like if we are together and it’s just that knowing look that happens when it plays. Our song that’ll make it feel like it’s just us no matter who’s around. And it’s not just us you know its fits us, describes us like it was meant for us. Like it’s a song we can play to dance at our wedding, and again on our anniversary and relive the moment. Maybe even for our ki-,” you stopped in your tracks. You had caught yourself before you went too far. It was unbelievable you just brushed it off a while ago but it still managed to come out. Your most insecure thoughts were poking at you as Kei just kind of looked at you, lips parted. You’ve never seen that expression well except the time he’d see you naked for the first time but still, this was a bit different. He looked away scratching his neck and said, “Oh ok… Well, we can think about a song I guess but I’m kinda hungry and I told Tadashi I would go for pizza with him so I’ll see you tomorrow.”
Your face fell as he grabbed his stuff and walked out of your dorm. He just kind of brushed it off and you were terrified because he was supposed to stay the night. You knew Kei could be like this, he wasn’t the best with his emotions and you knew that. You even loved it but this time his lack of response just threw you into a blender of bad thoughts. Maybe you just made him nervous but what if he didn’t want that, what if you had scared him off your mind was racing. You went to bed without dinner and tried to fall asleep whilst listening to the playlist he had made for you whilst trying to hold back sobs. It’s a miracle you got any sleep that night, thoughts kept attacking you “What if he breaks up with me tomorrow? What if he doesn’t want that with me? Does he think I’m stupid for thinking so far? ”
-----Out for Pizza with Yamaguchi-----
“I thought you and y/n had plans?” he said sipping his drink.
“Hey … We did but um she started talking about this thing called ‘our song’,” he was hoping he could clear his head and talk about how he felt without messing things up. Tadashi was always good with words and being kind.
“But isn’t that like good?” He asked confused chewing his pizza. Unlike Tsukishima who hadn’t touched his food even a bit.
“I guess but she was talking about marriage and kids and I-,” he paused looking down whilst fiddling with the straw in his drink.
-----The Next Day-----
You put on some concealer to hide your eye bags and puffiness, some regular comfy clothes, and bought a whole lot of coffee, just something to get you through today but it didn’t help. You couldn’t focus and it was driving you mad. Your friends noticed your teachers and even the janitor. There was no doubt Kei wouldn’t notice but he wouldn’t let you just say “It’s nothing…” However, there was one problem you hadn’t seen him all day. It was the end of this achingly slow day and you bumped into Yamaguchi, “Hey have you seen Tsukishima?” He smiled and said, “No, I haven’t seen him since yesterday but I’m sure you could probably find him in his dorm later.” You wanted to ask him if Kei had said anything but in all honestly you were too scared to. You thanked him and quickly went on you way.
-----Next Week------
The entirety of last week had followed a similar cycle to the say after what you consider the “Great Tragedy”.  You’d barely eaten or slept, the dark circles were becoming more than obvious. You were convinced you guys were over and it was getting harder to bear. Sure you could have just seen him at his dorm and ended this prolonged misery much quicker but something always came up whether it be a problem, an assignment, or just your cowardly nature towards the situation. At this point, you were just torturing yourself. Tomorrow was your 2 year anniversary and you were more than afraid to face him. That’s if it wasn’t over already.
-----At Tsukshima’s Dorm-----
“You have to go see her,” Yamaguchi pleaded
“But what if she doesn’t want me anymore now? What if I messed up? Worse what if she thinks you hate her? I should have seen her even if I was busy.  I’m always such- such dammit I’m an asshole,” it was one of those rare moments in his life where he was having a breakdown and he didn’t know what to do.
“Tsukishima Kei! You better calm down right now!” Yamaguchi held on to Tsukishima shaking his shoulders. “You aren’t going to know unless you find out ok. I know you, even if you’re not good at expressing yourself but you always succeed in getting the point across plus just sleep tonight and execute the master plan tomorrow. And for the record she knew you were an asshole, strangely I think she likes that,” he patted Tsukishima on the back and left the dorm, giving him a small laugh and smile of reassurance.
The words master plan gave him some comfort but he wouldn’t really call it that. It was always the plan it just took longer than he expected. He’s kind of glad you never came to check on him but he knew you, even if it didn’t seem that way. He knew you were hurt and your habits would have taken a turn for the bad he just hoped that he didn’t mess up for good. Tomorrow was your anniversary so in a sense the timing was perfect. The only problem was he’d avoided you for so long he hadn’t even seen you, sure he asked around but his worries weren’t put to rest so easily. He’d never let you know how obsessive he could be.
It killed him to be away from you for so long, especially how your last encounter had ended.  He could only hope this would make you see, make you understand how he feels once and for all.
----- Anniversary-----
He was hoping he could catch you around campus for lunch and maybe convince you to take a walk with him to the nearby coffee shop where both of you had your first date, but you weren’t anywhere to be seen. He remembered that date, no matter what snarky remark he made you’d laugh and giggle. It was the most beautiful thing he had ever seen, but he wouldn’t show it, instead, he’d made a snarky remark towards you laugh which only made you laugh harder. He was intrigued, captured in a sort of way and he knew you’d keep him that way for a long time but now it was a bit different.
“Hey, Tsukki! I heard she’s in her dorm, she hadn’t gone to classes all day,” Yamaguchi ran up to him pulling him out of the memory.
“Thank you!” He ran quickly, practicing more often really paid of athletic-wise.
----- In Your Dorm -----
You hadn’t moved all day. No breakfast, lunch, snack not even water. Your body ached, your nose stuffed not only from crying but rather because you worried yourself sick, literally. His gift laid unwrapped on the floor, It was a box of various things you thought he might like, new kneepads with a cute little dino on the ends, a jacket with an embroidered moon on it, cute matching dino necklaces, and a plushy which was you guessed it a dinosaur. Now you were wondering if he’d even want anything from you.
As the heaviness of your eyelids started to take over there was a sound of the door opening, you quickly pulled the blanket over your head. Kei was the only one with a key; you wouldn’t let him see you like this. You didn’t want this to be the last way he saw of you, pathetic, weak, and plain loser. You prepared yourself to be broken up with as he called out, “Y/n! Y/n! Shorty! Babe, I’m coming in!” ‘Babe ?” your thoughts lingered on the word, it gave you hope and a bit of courage to call back out quietly because you could barely raise your voice, “I’m in my bed.”
He peeked his head in and the sight made his heart crack, “You little dummy! You got yourself sick; I should have known this would happen. Umm, I’ll be right back.” He ran out and in about 15 minutes he had been back, and even then you were still shocked and confused. “I’m in your kitchen,” He called out.  All you could manage was to mumble a simple ‘ok.’ His plans had few out the window and in all honesty, he was panicking just a bit but he still had a backup plan though and he thinks it’ll work just fine. All he had to do was try his best to do what he came here for, he just wanted to make you see and hopefully he hadn’t ruined everything.
Tsukishima waltzed into your room carrying a bowl, “Ok, I’m no cook but I can make ramen. You better like it ok.” He helped you sit up and held the spoon to your mouth which kind of took you by surprise, “Come on open up or I’ll eat it myself. Unless you want me to do that airplane thing they do for babies you’re such a child anyways,” he joked earning a little giggle from you. You gladly took the mouthful and smiled, “Yummy. Thank you, babe,” a small smile quirked his lips to your response. This caused your cheeks to feel even warmer if that was even possible, the fever was already burning you alive. After you finished the ramen, he made you take some medicine and drink water. At this point, the fact that today was your anniversary was completely forgotten but you did the one thing that got you into this mess again. You blurted out, “So you’re not here to break up with me?” He looked sort of taken aback, had he really made you feel that way. He thought maybe his lack of response had made you sort of letting go of yourself but he didn’t think that this could happen. He hated that he couldn’t make you believe in his love, that he always came off as cold but it was time to execute the plan. He hoped this would show you.
“What? No, no I’m not here for that but um we can talk about this after you should get some rest,” He padded towards you and laid next to you wrapping his arms around you. “What if you get sick?” you questioned him quietly. “It’s whatever; you’re the dummy who didn’t take care of yourself so now I gotta do this. Plus maybe then you can take care of me, you owe me anyway because I made you my amazing ramen,” you chuckled at his response, leaning into his touch. “Wait I almost forgot,” he grabbed his earbuds and his phone. He readjusted and started the music, you were four songs in, all happened to be a mix of his and your favorites.
Tsukishima’s heart rate had quickened and his breathes were getting shallow, it was fast approaching and he was nervous. He couldn’t help but wonder ‘What if you hadn’t liked it?’ The song started and you knew immediately, you couldn’t face him your hand over your mouth, tears welled in your eyes it was beautiful, it was perfect. You could feel every emotion, every thought, you knew he loved you before but this was pure, it was his everything and he did it all for you.
The weight shifted on the bed as he came on the other side of the bed on one knee, he pulled your hand from your mouth and kissed your knuckles, “I’m sorry I left you waiting for so long, I’m sorry I made you feel lonely and hurt but most of all I’m sorry for making you didn’t think I loved you. I’m not the best with words so um I hope this comes out right. When I met you, I felt like I finally found my person, you loved my dry, snarky humor, weren’t easily fazed and most of all you never judged me. You made me feel accepted, loved and I could never ask for anything more. I- I- spent the last week thinking about what you said and well you know what else now, I’m sure you can tell. Anyway, umm I want to get married, I want cute kids that look like you and have your cute laugh, I want it all, I’m sorry I didn’t make it seem that way, I just never thought you could want that with me but I panicked though I was beyond happy. I can’t propose to you now but I want to promise myself to you with these,” he held out his other hand with two rings; they were dino rings which made it even cuter. You couldn’t help but giggle as you wiped the tear with your other hand. “That’s if you still want me and we can play this song, Our Song at our wedding, in the car, for our kids, whenever you want if that’s still what you want,” he broke, tears slid down his cheeks.
 He was never one to cry, and when he did it was genuine. You shifted your body, your legs off the side of the bed, and him now kneeling in between them. You raised his slightly bowed head, holding his face and wiping the stray tears on his cheeks, “Kei, you’ve never made me feel lonely, I just over thought and you know kind of thought maybe you didn’t want to have kids or get married or the whole shebang. I’m not the most optimistic person so I immediately assumed the worst. This isn’t your fault I’m just a big idiot and I love you so much. So yes I want all those things with you and no one else.”  He laughed a bit, “Yep you’re an idiot but you’re my big idiot and I love you too, shorty hmmm shortcake,” he placed a gentle kiss against your lips and slips on the funny little ring.
“Hey you were supposed to say I’m not an idiot but what did I expect, shortcake though I like that,” You leaned in as he hummed in response against your lips. He is incessantly kissing you but a question crossed your mind and you stopped him, “What’s wrong y/n?” He questioned a bit worried. “How did you make that song by yourself? Not to mention your voice is amazing babe. You should consider music as a career you know,” you looked waiting for a response. “Well you see, I had some of the lyrics written about half a year ago and what you said made me finish em. You made me really happy but also nervous and I was scared to mess up so I panicked. I thought maybe if I had finished the song I could get my feelings across so I met up with someone I knew from my time in high school and he helped me out. Semi Eita, the musician he helped me with the tune and the music in the background. I took a bit longer mainly because I needed it to be perfect and I was nervous.  So yeah but I’m gonna be a pro volleyball player babe, I didn’t know my voice was good until Semi suggested I sing it myself.”
“Wait like the Semi Eita,” your eyes sparkled, you loved his music, “You never told me you knew him. Wait sorry I’m off-topic, the song was perfect and you wrote these that long who knew you could be so romantic?” He looked at you slightly frowning, “Hey! I can be romantic ok. You try to top that. Humph!  I’m glad you like the song though. Oh also I’ll introduce you next week to Semi he’s been curious, something about someone who can handle the Tsukishima Kei. I don’t know what he’s talking about.” You jumped up, “I can’t wait. Yayyyy. Oh wait before I forget I didn’t wrap your gift but it’s over there, I kind of got necklaces, they match the rings.” You twirl around excitedly when suddenly he grabs you by the waist, “Well since your feeling so much better, maybe you can give me another gift,” he pulls you down to straddle his lap on the bed instantly attaching his lips to your neck.
You jokingly cough in his face and run as he chases you around the dorm shouting, “You damn pipsqueak when I catch you which you better hope I don’t, you’re so screwed.” He does eventually catch you but he drags you back to be for cuddles, kisses and a bit more. Needless to say, both of you did not attend classes tomorrow.
I always found it hard to be myself
But you made feel like no one else
A love like no other is what I really felt
So I’m in this in sickness and in health
So that’s what I thought the last verse could have been but I’m no song writer so I’m sorry if its horrible. On that note I hope you enjoyed the story. I encourage constructive criticism and I hope to see you again.
PS I am working on your requests I promise it’ll be here soon.
If you liked my work, maybe you might want to buy me some coffee ☕️?
Question; Do you want what happened if Y/N decided not to be playful aka the NSFW?
Chapter 1
There was no one in town that didn’t know about the Ragnarssons, the children of the famous Ragnar Lothbrok. They were fearless, they were reckless, and they were dangerous, just like their father. That’s what everybody said.
Bjorn was the eldest, the first-born of Ragnar’s first marriage with Lagertha. There had been a daughter too, Gyda, but she had passed away terribly young. After that, Ragnar had only sons born from his second marriage, this time with Aslaug. First came Ubbe, then Hvitserk and Sigurd. All of them perfectly healthy and strong boys that, much like Bjorn and to Ragnar’s amusement, took after their father in several ways. Unexpectedly and accidentally, however, there was a fifth child, the last son of Ragnar, Ivar.
Ivar was very different from his brothers.
Born with a bone condition, he was crippled from the start. It was not just his legs that wouldn’t allow him to ever walk on his own, but a whole lot more pain coming from his frail bones that were never to be trusted. No wonder he grew up as a vulnerable, angry, and sad kid, despite being his mother’s favorite and most protected son. And now, as he was becoming a man, people called him mad and a drunk, a wild card with whom everyone rather stay away from. Ivar didn’t mind, he preferred to be tamed than to be pitied after a lifetime of being looked down on. In fact, he would do everything in his power to remain like this. It was the only way to prove himself and stay out of his brothers’ shadow and, most importantly, his father’s to who Ivar was the least favored son, something which hurt the boy more deeply than his constant physical pain.
“Hurry up, Ivar. Crawl faster, or else when we get to the club Ubbe and Hvitserk will have gotten all the best girls” Sigurd’s voice echoed loudly through the house.
Ivar was there a second later clearly annoyed at his brother’s mocking tone. “Last time I checked, dear brother, you need me to drive you. So shut up. Let’s go.”
Sigurd couldn’t argue back. He did need Ivar to drive them to the club. He kept failing at taking his driver’s license. It was humiliating to have to need his crippled brother to drive him, but Ubbe and Hvistserk, the bastards, hadn’t been home. Minutes afterward Ivar was behind the wheel of his accessible SUV and off they were.
Thirty minutes later they were skipping the line to get into the club. The Ragnarssons had their ways.  If there was one circuit in which their name was known by everyone, it was the nightlife one. No party would ever start without one of them being there. Ivar and Sigurd joined Ubbe and Hvisterk in the VIP area. As usual, Ivar took a corner where he knew he’d spend the next few hours drinking, smoking, and glaring at the dancing crowd. Perhaps if someone caught his eye he’d make a move, but usually, it was more like his brothers to do that.
“There you go” Hvitzerk handed him a joint “Don’t look so serious, Ivar. The night is young. Enjoy!” By the looks of it, it was clear that he was already a bit high. But again it was Hvitserk and unusual would be to find him sober. “A lot of pretty ladies out there. Want me to pick one for you?”
Ivar knew Hivtserk was only joking, but he still didn’t like it. His brother, ignoring Ivar’s cold glare and much to his annoyance, started pointing out to random girls who were dancing. “Oh, look at that one. C’mon Ivar, ain’t she a treat to stare at?”
Thankfully, Hivtserk stopped his stupid game once their oldest brother Bjorn joined them, bringing shots to everyone with the help of his wife, Torvi.
“Brother, to what do we owe the honor?” Ivar said, throwing one of his ironic smirks.
“I bring good news. Father is going to be released from jail sooner than expected. In three months to be exact! I had to pull some strings but it’s settled”
The news was received with different reactions. Sigurd didn’t seem that happy, while Ivar was the opposite. Ubbe was the first one to hold one of the shot glasses and started the toast “To Father! To Ragnar!”
Ragnar had been in prison for almost three years due to white-collar crimes, having been convicted of corporate fraud and money laundering. His sentence would’ve been of more than ten years, but Ragnar had his ways and was able to cut a deal for five years. And now, apparently, he would only serve almost four. Throughout this time it had been Bjorn taking over the leadership of the family’s successful business, Northmen Ventures, of which all of Ragnar’s sons had become the sole shareholders just before he was imprisoned. This explained why they were one of the richest families in their Norwegian city of Bergen.
Bjorn,  now age 30, had been the natural successor of Ragnar. Not only because he was the oldest and perhaps the favorite son of Ragnar, but also because at the time he was the only one with a university degree, having just graduated from Law School. Yet, all of Ragnar’s sons were meant to get involved with the business. At least that was their father’s wish. Ubbe, now 24, had just graduated from Architecture School but had recently joined Bjorn on the company’s executive board.  Ivar wasn’t given the opportunity to help out, something which he grudged his older brothers - for dismissing him for his age, despite the fact that he’d watch and learned as much from his father as possible since an early age. Now 19 he was a freshman in college taking Business Administration. Then there were Hvitserk, 23, and Sigurd, 21,  the ones more adamant about following in their father’s footsteps. Hvitserk was using the money they were all getting to sustain his pricy bachelor lifestyle, and so was Sigurd who dedicated most of his time to art and music. Neither tried to pursue a higher education degree.
“Don’t get too excited. Father will be back and then what? It’s not like he cares about us.” Sigurd, the mood killer, chugged his beer aggressively “He didn’t let us visit him in prison not even once. Not even Mother was allowed to. He didn’t even care for sending a postcard for Christmas!”
“He must have had his reasons.”
“And he left us the company”
“And so what? He just wanted to prevent it from ending up in the hands of the government.  Fuck him! You might all want to play the role of doting sons, but I’m not gonna tag along” After this Sigurd stormed off.
The remaining brothers looked at one another. A little bit of what Sigurd had just said resounsed with them, but at the same time they were excited to welcome back their father. Things would be very different with him around.
“I say we celebrate.” Ivar said, not minding Sigurd. He couldn’t wait for his father to be back so that he could prove himself once and for all. He was no longer the defenseless crippled child he was when Ragnar went away.
Despite the good mood he was in about Bjorn’s good news, Ivar wasn’t vibing with the club’s atmosphere that night. Hvitserk and Ubbe were making out with some random girls, Sigurd was nowhere to be seen and Torvi and Bjorn had left already. Instead, he was craving for some adrenaline and he knew just the way to get it. Texting his dealer, he left the club with the help of his crutches.
Nothing was to stop him except that on the way out someone bumped into him almost causing him to lose his fragile balance. Fury grew on Ivar who was about to yell at whoever made the mistake of infuriating him that night, but that’s when her face lost the blurriness of a few seconds ago and Ivar lost his balance again but for a completely different reason.
“Oh, no. I’m so sorry! I didn’t mean to...shit”
“Bitch, get back! For the hundredth time, you’re not getting in!”
The girl’s expression quickly turned one of desperation. “I told you I have to. My cousin needs help! Don’t stop me, please” Her words were towards the bouncer that was now pulling her back, but her pleading eyes were on Ivar as if asking for help.
“Hey, let her go!”  Ivar didn’t know why, but his rage got up to new levels when he saw the bouncer getting his filthy hands on her. “I said back off. Take your fucking hands off of her.”
At Ivar’s command the bouncer let her go. It didn’t matter that he was a big muscle guy, Ivar took a step towards him and faced him with a cold death stare.
“She’s coming in with me, do you understand?”
“Ragnarsson, she is a minor. I can’t let her in.”
“I’m not asking.”
His tone set it. He nodded so that the girl got in the club ahead of him. She didn’t even say a word, going immediately in. Ivar had to hurry himself inside to catch up.
“Fuck, there’s so many people” she noticed looking absolutely lost.
“Let me help you.” he offered.
“The bathrooms. My cousin... she called me, she didn’t sound fine… I’m worried something’s happened... She said she couldn’t move” she was trembling as she spoke. Ivar reached her hand with his.
“If she is here we are going to find her.” he assured her “Follow me”
It was not typical of Ivar to help a lady in distress but as he was guiding this girl through the crowd of drunk dancing people he couldn’t understand the need he was abruptly feeling for shielding her and, worst of all, to comfort her. These feelings left him uneased, but he was not going to dwell into that right now. If his suspicions were right and her cousin was somewhere in the club, then she was probably drugged to the point of unconsciousness and in a position to be taken advantage of.
They swiped all the bathrooms at the club until at last they burst into one where a girl was noticeably knocked down in a corner.
“Cathrine!” the girl immediately crouched down on her cousin. “Cathrine, can you hear me?”
“All of you, get out” Ivar demanded the girls who were inside. Some tried to complain, after all he was the guy in a female bathroom. These same girls that had paid no attention, or they just didn’t care, to the other girl on the floor. He then went outside as fast as he could and got a water bottle.
“She’s awake, but barely. Says she 's dizzy. She’s not talking right”
“She was likely drugged” It wouldn’t be a first in that club “Make her sip some water” he threw the water bottle at them. He really wanted to level down to them, but with his crutches and all it just wouldn’t go well. “I’m gonna find help.”
 He ‘raced’ to the VIP area. Only Hivtserk was there with a girl on top of him. What was wrong with his brothers for acting as if their corner was a place of public foreplay display?
“Hvitserk, I need your help!”
“Go away Ivar” he grumbled and continued to suggestively run his hands on the brunette over his lap.
Ivar had to take the matter into his hands. The first thing he found was a leftover cocktail on the table which he threw at the girl. Her immediate squeak was so high and audible despite the deafening music. She practically jumped from on top of his brother.
“You crazy motherfucker!”
“What the fuck Ivar?”
“I don’t have time to explain. Come with me. I need your help.”
Usually he didn't have much faith in his brothers - after all they were a pain in his ass most of the time - but this time he was really hoping to call on Hvitserk’s good senses. Fortunately his prayers were answered and his older brother followed him back to the bathroom
“What’s going on?”
“There’s a passed out girl. We need to get her out of here.”
“Would you go so far as in to get laid, little brother? Oh, you sicko”
“This is not the time for jokes, asshole. You’re the sicko for even suggesting that”
Ivar was almost regretting getting Hvitserk to help, but the truth was that he alone wouldn’t be able to carry the girl out from the bathroom. The moment they got in there Hvitserk got a bit more serious and kneeled next to the two girls.
“Let’s get her out of here”
Together with Hvitserk, the girl helped raise her semi-unconscious cousin. People inside the club were so fucked up that they didn’t drop one second to look at them leaving.
“Take her to my car” Ivar indicated and so they did. He unlocked his metallic grey SUV from afar and went on to open the backdoors where they laid the girl. “Let her get some fresh hair. It will do her good.”
“Should we take her to the hospital?” Hvitserk suggested.
A loud “No!” came from the inside of the car.
“She can’t. It will be too complicated” said the other girl but not without hinting her dissatisfaction.
Ivar finally took a moment to fully look at her. Dressed  in just a pair of jeans and a warm sweatshirt, she was lean and tall, but at least a good ten centimeters shorter than himself. Her blonde hair was tied in a messy bun with some strands falling down on her face. He had to hold the instinct to gently brush those aside. And her eyes… They were a very greyish blue color like he had never seen before. They were mirroring worry and nervousness.
“I’m calling a cab. Thank you for your help. I don’t know what I would’ve done if it weren’t for you” she said facing Ivar and Ivar only.
“I can drive you.” he offered without thinking.
“We already bothered you enough -”
Ivar cut her off “Nonsense. I’m going to drive you” he declares in a way that offered no other option.
Relief poured from her gaze “Thank you”
It was quite the drive, further out of Bergen’s city center. By the time they got there the passed out girl - Cathrine - had regained consciousness, albeit feeling nauseous and dizzy. Hvitserk carried her alone in his arms to the inside of the house and further into her bed. It was time enough for her to fall asleep like a rock.
“She seems just to need some rest. Keep her hydrated when she wakes up.”
“If she was drugged then it should wear off her system soon”
“Noted. I don’t know how to thank you both”
“You could go on a date with one of us, how does that sound?”
“Hvitserk!” Ivar admonished in reaction to the girl’s shocked expression “Please, ignore my brother. He, too, has drugs that need to wear off his system”
“You’re no fun, Ivar” Hvitserk couldn’t argue back on the drugs part. “A pleasure to help, milady. Until next time” He did a silly bow and left the apartment back to the car.
“Is he always like that?”
 “Most of the time, yeah.” Ivar shrugged his shoulders “Hand me your phone” Because she did without complaining, he got it and put his number in there “I’m Ivar Lothbrook. Whenever you need help.”
What he really wanted to say was ‘text me’. He didn’t have the nerve for that, tho.
For the first time that night she finally showed a glimpse of a smile “Honestly, thank you. I don’t know what I would’ve done without your help, Ivar Lothbrok”
Her hand was touching his and for a moment everything seemed to stop. The way his name sounded on her lips… A shiver went down his spine. He wanted to hear it again, but most importantly he wanted to know her name.
But in that exact moment a horn yelled. Goddamned Hvitserk. He was going to wake up the whole street, which was the opposite of what the girls had asked. “I better go drive him home now or else he’ll wake up the whole neighborhood”
Yet Ivar was finding it difficult to leave. To leave her. Another honk made him take the necessary steps.
“I mean it when I say for you to use my number whenever. Stay safe”
He finally closed the door behind him and walked back to the car, but not before looking over his shoulder. There she was, by the window, waving goodbye with a shy smile on her face.
He needed to see her again.
The next morning Ivar woke up rather hopeful of seeing a text message. Seeing there was none, his day didn’t kick off exactly on the right terms. Throughout the day he checked his phone more times than he cared to admit and each time he grew impatient and irritated. What was it about that girl to make him like this? It’s not like he usually gave a crap about whoever he met.
“What’s wrong with you? You’ve got a right cob-on” his older brother Ubbe asked later that day when they were all chilling by the firepit  in the backyard of the Lothbrook’s home.
Although in Norway it was uncommon for people their age to still be living at home, in their case that’s how things were and worked out great most days. Usually it was just the four brothers and the house was  big enough for them not to be in each other’s ways.. Their mother, Aslaug Lothbrok, ran one the country’s finest art galleries. After her husband’s arrest she had moved her gallery to the capital city, Oslo, instead of their home city. Lately she spent most of her time there rather than at home.
“It’s nothing. Leave me alone”
“He’s hung up” teased Hvitserk “Still thinking about the pretty blondie from last night, brother?”
Right that moment Ivar wished he could smack the mocking smiles out of his brother’s faces.
“Well, well, well Ivar. Didn’t know you had company last night.”
“He didn’t.  Not exactly. None of us did” Hvitserk proceed to put Ubbe on the loop in regards to their little episode last night. “Instead of asking her for her number, our little brother gave her his. Wrong move, dude.” Ivar immediately regretted telling this to Hvitserk. “Don’t be so bummed out, Ivar. There’s plenty of fish in the sea. Speaking of…”
A blonde Ivar doesn’t care much about exits their home in Sigurd’s company, both appearing content which can only mean one thing. Margrethe is a constant guest at the Lothbrok’s and probably the only female with the fame of being acquainted with all of the brothers’ rooms. Although a favorite among the Ragnarssons, to Ivar she’s nothing but an unpleasant company he is forced to tolerate after they fall out months ago.
“If that’s the fish you’re hinting at, I’d rather go vegan” Ivar mumbled under his breath.
I hope you liked it! It’s my first Vikings fic :) Sorry for any mistakes, English is not my native language. At least five more chapters will be on the way.
“Chuuya, I would like for you to meet my daughter.”
Right then a beautiful and fair lady came out of the door. Chuuya beweildered by her beauty went silent; such a beautiful creature existed?
“Y/N, meet Chuuya; he is one of the best executives here!” Mori introduced you smiling, to which you wave your hand to the ginger and smiled warmly “Hey Chuuya! Pleasure meeting you.” Chuuya smiled shyly and waved back “S-same here..”
Mori then smirked and questioned “Chuuya what’s the matter? You seem rather uncollected.” The said male waved his hand around in denial as he was stopped by a giggle from the lady beside him. “You are quite cute; I hope we get to know each other more.” You said before exiting for your mission.
Chuuya let out a sigh of relief putting his hands on his knees as blush crept onto his face. He made a total and utter fool out of himself; Isn’t he the strongest executive? Why was he so damn shy around you? The thought started clouding his mind until Mori snapped him out of his daze and asked “Are you perhaps interested in Y/N, Chuuya?”
Damn right he is. You were so sweet and kind and that just hit bullseye in his heart. Ever since then he would take almost any opportunity to be with you and talk with you. You were slowly getting to know each other better.
You have been together through tears and giggles and pain and sniffles. He knows you deeply and you know him just as well. After all 3 years of friendship isn’t a minuscule period of time; there multiple moments he had seen you in that made just how much of a wonderful person you are even clearer.
You got along with everyone.
Akutagawa, you both were like best friends and would tell each other everything. You were one of the few he accepted help or their company and you were always a great duo in battle.
Kouyou, the woman that took him in adores you. What more could he ask for? Kouyou helped you and guided in your times of unknowing what to do and how to do it. You were sisters and she valued you deeply, she would always hang out with you and talk with you about anything and everything.
Mori, the man who you addressed as your father. Despite Mori not being biologically him but he treated you as such, as if you were his daughter. He gave you all his love and made you feel appreciated and took care of you.
Seeing your kindness towards your allies Chuuya was dazzled, how could someone so sweet and kind be in the Mafia? His thoughts were completely erased when he saw you in battle.
Multiple screams, all saying the same thing “Beware of the Port Mafia’s devil!” Chuuya was wondering about who are they referring to, was it him? He suddenly heard someone singing behind him.
“Hear me, denizens of darkness, you who are born of shadow and you who give birth to it. Hear me and do as I command! I, Y/N, call upon you to send forth one of your number! I summon the demons of chanting despair!”
That voice, it sounded so angelic but the words were venomous. He turned around to be met with the sight of you floating, eyes glowing purple as demons from around you rose from the earth and attacked all the men in front of him.
‘Woah..’ He couldn’t be more in love. Your elegant movement while fighting were a sight to behold. Your voice was enchanting yet deadly, he would be grateful if it was the last thing he heard before his death.
He loved how there was a total difference between the way you treat your peers and your enemies. Did he really deserve if your feelings were mutual? It was new for Chuuya to doubt himself. But there wasn’t any route to choose when his heart now belonged to no one but you and that made him helpless before you.
“Look at the stars, Chuuya !” Right, you loved looking at constellations, and he loved how the stars shined and danced in your eyes as if they were their ball room.
He looked up and saw a weird look star, maybe a constellation? He then pointed at it and asked “Y/N, what constellation is that?” You smiled brightly before answering “That’s Cassiopeia! It represents love.” You then turned to the ginger finding him close to you and somehow both of you involuntary moved closer, slowly about to close the gap between you.
“Hello Y/N.” You both jumped and looked at the owner of the voice to see that it’s Mori. Chuuya saying every cuss word in his mind while you both were as red as roses, however Mori was grinning mischievously. It’s nice being a party pooper at times.
However that’s all in the past.
 Now you were gone, no one knew where you were taken and if you were even still alive. 2 years too long for the ginger, too long because of his suffering and sadness through them.
When he first found out you were taken he was devastated and went on searching everywhere with the mafia men; everyone in the Port Mafia was searching for their Y/N.
At the night he found out he couldn’t sleep, and wanted to start the search as soon as possible but days turned into weeks and weeks turned into months and then into years. Chuuya was starting to lose hope but still searched. Everyday he thought of you, he would drink wine and anything to wash it all away.
Even now after all what happened and the two years that had passed since then they still didn’t stop searching. He didn’t stop searching.
He was walking down the streets returning back from a mission as he came across a warehouse, it looked rather sketchy so to quiet down his thoughts he entered it and his eyes could not believe what he saw.
You all beaten up and bruised. Body looking as weak as a stick and something to silence your screams and chants on your mouth, his body loved involuntary and hugged you tightly quickly freeing you from the chains that hampered you from fleeing from your misery.
He sent the location to the Port Mafia and now everyone was going to come and make who did this to you pay. He picked you up and as he looked behind him he found Mori with wide eyes barely himself believing that indeed you were alive.
The old man took you from the hands of your savior and inspected your face, those who did this to you will go through hell. “Chuuya take her back.” Mori said sternly and Chuuya nodded, he wasn’t going to let you go out of his sight again.
And there he was with you on a bed, multiple tubes sticking to your skin and a oxygen mask. You looked really weak and pale, but it didn’t stop him from loving you. He loved you even more because you managed to live through that and made it back to him at the end.
Chuuya fell asleep as he was waiting for any sign of your awakening, and you woke up instead adjusting to the light and your surroundings. This wasn’t the dark and frightening warehouse you were in...you were finally saved. After two years of misery you were finally saved.
You looked to your side to find the ginger fast asleep alongside you, you smiled softly and gently played with his hair. Chuuya felt something on his head and slowly woke up to see you pulling your hand away, but he held it tenderly and put it back.
“I have to tell you something when you recover, Y/N.” He said as he was enjoying the feeling of your touch. “Why not now?” You questioned while he looked up at you with a smile and mumbled “because it’s something you need to be told outside of this white chamber.”
And so as time passed you were finally back to how you were. He blindfolded you and led you to a garden and went behind you. “Chuuya where are we?” You wondered while he chuckled and took your blindfold off and said “See for yourself.”
Your eyes were now looking at the garden you last saw Chuuya before your disappearance, but right now there was a picnic set and surrounding it were petals on a shape of a heart and candles lighting up the the space. He then pointed above and looked at you.
 There it was, the constellation of love, Cassiopeia. He placed a hand on his heart and softly said “Love is what I feel for you. Very deep and strong love.” He walked towards you and held your hands between his bringing them up to his lips and placed a light kiss to them.
“I never stopped loving you, and from the moment I saw you took my breath away, you made me the prisoner of love and the poor who seeks for your love and touch. Everything about you is beyond description, I can’t find the words to describe it and I am afraid that it had already eaten me up. I am afraid that now you are the only who can calm the beast of love and adoration that only wants you and won’t accept anyone but you. So will you please give me a chance and let me show you how much love my heart feels towards you?”
A smile made its way into your face and vision getting glossy. You pulled the ginger towards you and connected your lips as gentle as one would touch a flower’s petal. The light of the stars shining on both you, it looked like a scene from a movie.
A portray, a beautiful portray, that could be drawn by millions but never be as beautiful. And Cassiopeia was the witness of their true and never ending love.
“once I believed
love poems were foolish
now I read love poems
just for the sake of it
and yet perhaps I want
to reach a higher state of poetry
I don't know if that's right or wrong
but such a feeling persists anyway
and sometimes irritates me
provoking outrageous desires
once I believed
love poems were foolish
yet now I do nothing
but dream about love“
