I’ve been listening to endrinas the language of flowers fic, and in the authors notes of chapter 1 of part three, they mention how the book never explained how Sirius got his wand back, and my immediate reaction was “I always assumed they never bothered to take it off him”.

#anyway point is: new universe hc.#Azkaban is a magic dead zone so #they don’t even bother to take wands of prisoners #in part two endrinas wrote about how lax their security is outside of the cells because of the dementors and prisoners becoming either #completely dispondant or insane and escape isn’t really conceivable #so having their wands still kinda follows that logic I guess #the only magic that can exist are inate ones like creature transformations— lycanthropy and animagus (?) or creator characteristics #ie Being A Dementor or like #being veela or half giant #which are all magical creatures #but being in a magical dead zone wouldn’t mean the complete ceasing of their existence #unless of course we are existing within a universe like stardust where that’s exactly what happens #anyway #fun thoughts #this is a post from like a year ago I never published but also it’s something I think about a lot so here #have it

tries to write a little creature and gets distracted for two hours analyzing staves from the manga for like. literally two paragraphs in the opening that are just supposed to help set the scene i hate it here

#a little creature #possamble #if anyone cares. it seems like gnomish magic users have some sort of circle/loosely enclosed space at the end of the staff #that involves metal at least a little #eg. rin's metal staff / all of falin's staves that weren't straight up maces / etc.#ironically most of the actual gnomes that appear don't use staves and seem to be free casters or spirit users #whereas all the junior canaries we see have wooden staves with a slight crook but no enclosure #(and all the extremely experienced mages have their own unique arcane focus or are free casters)#the only magic users we see that have a wooden staff with a circular head are marcille and fionil... the only two half elves we see #which possibly sets the really interesting implication that fionil might also be a hybrid caster who uses both systems #ETA: i believe maizuru is the only mage we see who uses the eastern system #and she seems to fall into the spirit user/unique arcane foci (paper) category for understandable reasons #though i do wonder what non-ninja magic looks like over there #since i get the feeling that she's a highly espionage-focused and specialized mage

sneeping with his legs up over his head for some reason... weird boye

#cats #love the second picture... skrungly sleepy well rested boye face...#since he's an elderly boy now sometimes when he wakes up from a nap he looks a bit scruffy and squinty eyed #Hard to beleive he's like 15 though.. he still looks like a kitten to me.. due to his giant round creature eyes and childlike demeanor #I think it's interesting that like... baby cats are babies. kittens are kittens. and you can tell a cat is like 'young adult' phase #looking from like a few months to maybe 1yr or 2yrs.. but after that they just always look the same to me #a 5 yr old cat is a 10 yr old cat is a 15 year old cat. unless the cat in question is particulalry aged or youthful #I still have so so little energy... it's been icy here this week. like not even FUN but just scary icy even thoguh i lOOOVE the cold #and its my favorite weather. I think it'd be okay actually if I had a woodburning stove/fireplace/hearth thing. literally thats my only #concern with the power going out. I genuinely don't mind stuff like having to go to the bathroom in buckets or cook over a fire or do other #less conveninet things. Its just that if eveyrhtng is electric then you have no way to cook and all of that. well.. and I literally need #background noise to go to sleep lest my ocd sprials become so loud I am slowly driven into maddness.. but a few battery packs or something #and a phone with one downloaded video I could play on repeat is fine for that. I dont need internet. ANYWAY.. so so sad that my fav #orite season ever (winter) is here. and the first cold of the winter is like... just an ice storm that you cant even walk in. I #love like 4 feet of snow where you can play in it and stuff. But just a thin flat sheet of a few inches of ice over every imaginable surfac #is not really playable. the wind speeds are so high and so many trees fall it's actually not that safe to go hang out outside anyway unless #you were in a totally clear open field. which is SAD also because i love ice and high winds. i love to stand out there and get whipped in t #he face with ice crystals and feel like I'm in some dramatic movie or something. but alas.. the threat of being attacked by a falling tree.#I did go out some but again it's like. literallyyou cant walk on it. so I just squatted and dragged myself along the ground lol #One of my stories has a whole section where the main characters are trapped in a deadly cold environment for a week and have to use magic #to survive and etc. etc. so I'm always like.. ouuu.. I should go in the ice.. it's Writing Research actually.. *foolishly gets frostbite*#THOUGH yesterday I went on a harrowing evil journey down a bunch of icy hilly roads to go check on some person's cat because the cat #had been left in the house for like 5 days at that point with nobody to check on them and nobody else seemed to want to do anything #about it (like call all of the neighbors or try to get someone out there) so I just went myself with a roommate who agreed to drive me.#It seemed acting totally normal and I gave it more food and water but.. I am still worried about it.. Apparently the person will be able #to get back to their house tomorrow but.. I dont trust them. But I couldnt take the cat with me because it's like.. a stranger's cat #basically and also no carrier + very skittish.. so I feared if I just tried to carry them bare handed they'd definitely leap from my grasp #and then it'd be like.. sliding on a sheet of ice chasing a cat and so on.. I still think they need to be watched for health issues tho >:|#ANYWAY.... many cat adventures lately... and strange weather... I wish for a normal week without always so many Things Happening.. augh

so i started this show and it just gets worse and worseeeee not only did it lift the romance subplot directly from twilight (and not well) but they also are trying to play the forbidden love angle hard in the fantasy racism vein except it's a "cross-species" relationship between the two whitest people i've ever seen in my life and there are three people of color in the whole (first season of the) show who aren't villains and it seems that every other episode (and sometimes ebery episode and sometimes twice an episode!) there is a man physically or magically subjugating a woman and i keep waiting for the big reveal at the end to be stolen from fucking rainbow rowell

Shapechange specifies not constructs or undead #and you know what. Wild Shape specifies BEASTS. with a MAXIMUM CHALLENGE RATING OF ONE.#unless you're a moon druid and then it's your level divided by 3 #except they're removing that in 'One DND' (shut up it's just 6e)#anyway DND has some CRAZY fucked up stuff in it and Monstrosity is just 'Miscellaneous' but with more racism in it #also I have not been productive today at all thanks coffee

Saw a post shilling a creature collector game for being diverse and having romanceable party members and then was like “I don’t know why tumblr hasn’t gotten attached to it yet except that Pokémon fans refuse to try other games�� like believe it or not the problem with the Pokémon franchise these days is NOT the lack of romance routes . Maybe convince me how the ACTUAL GAMEPLAY is better than Pokémon and I’ll give it a try

#I’m also pretty picky about creature designs. Pokémon has a certain je ne sais quoi that most other games fail to recreate #i can find something appealing or likable about nearly every Pokémon #i haven’t seen many of the beasts from the game this post mentioned but already some of them just don’t have the right vibes #also as far as the gameplay goes. it uses like shared stamina for all of a beast’s moves? which is kind of weird #like if you don’t wanna copy individual moves having their own points that’s fine but if EVERY attack casts from the same pool of points #that’s kind of overly limiting. like most RPGs with some kind of magic points still give you attacks that don’t spend them #ALSO I know it’s an open world game with resource gathering so you are REALLY going to have to sell me on the rest of the game. lmao.

i do think cyberwizard drugs is a funny trait for victor. ostensibly this is for his magic and to maintain his connection to his cybernetics but its kind of like a guy who gets a medical card for back pain and then makes weed his primary personality trait.

#his concoctions.#🌟#the idea is essentially that all living things in big league are either considered magical or mundane #and while all living creatures naturally produce #and channel magical energy/mana; mundane beings dont have enough to meaningfully express it in any major way #while magical creatures naturally excrete enough of it to have effects ie: kaseys powers #this is a spectrum its not like a hard binary but humans are the most mundane of the sapient creatures #and as such for a human to do magic requires external mana sources and often something to channel it through ie a staff #because it would otherwise be too much for the body to handle and either your effect wouldnt work or in some cases it would backfire #victor is human (mostly) and uses his tech to augment his natural abilities (which are impressive for a human). but a lot of what he dabbles #in these days is pretty extreme and outside the realm of typical magic tools #ie: dimension splitting; summoning and dealing with demons; time travel; the light necromancy required to keep his body functioning #and all his personal cybernetics are magitech and built in such a way that they channel more mana without an external focus (so no wand)#so the idea is that hes made himself some sort of substance of high-mana shit (minerals and some animal products mostly) that helps him #handle the strain of the kind of work hes doing. with the upside-downside of occassionally tripping balls.

#milgram #amane momose #I main testament btw so I find this extra enjoyable #fun fact about Testament: They used to be a normal kind human but then was FORCIBLY TURNED INTO A GEAR #which is a guilty gear magic creature thing #and then Justice (mecha gear god dw about it) implanted an idea in their mind that all humans should be eradicated #and after Testament broke free from Justice they were confronted with the Horrific Deeds They Committed and self-isolated in a forest #eventually though they learned to live again and has like 70 hobbies and is also forklift certified #I fucking love them and they WOULD be Amane's favorite character #this isnt just projecting (maybe) I think this story would fucking resonate #give my girl some hope she deserves it!#anyway I love testament guilty gear so much

90% of all Yugioh card effects are either "move a card from one zone to another" or "negate an effect" so I made a bunch of combat keywords so that monsters can actually be interesting on the field.

#asks #custom cards #also i managed to make them all different subtypes and get exactly 2 of each attribute so that's cool #anyway i'm barely even exaggerating about the 90% thing #“add a card from deck to hand” “special summon a monster” “destroy a card”#so much stuff is just moving cards between zones #and a lot of the rest is just “negate a card/effect” “effects can't target this” “can't be destroyed by effects”#just moving cards around or preventing cards from being moved around #how about actually caring about the battle phase?#yugioh's combat mechanics are really different than magic's so directly translating stuff like menace or haste doesn't work #but the difference also means there's so much opportunity for different abilities like Tricky or Stealthy or Guardian!#some translate fairly well like Vigilance into Resilient and Double Strike into Double Attack #and some are practically 1-to-1 like Deathtouch to Venomous and Trample to Piercing #Assist was an awkward one #the concept is so clear and simple and cool: it lets your monsters team up to attack together!#but mtg's Banding shows how that simple concept can be very difficult to translate into clean rules #even its spiritual successor Enlist had to specify “nonattacking creature without summoning sickness”#which i think is one of the only times that the term “summoning sickness” has appeared on modern cards #yeah i just checked and the only other cards that mention summoning sickness are stuff that involve creature-lands #i went back and forth on how exactly to word it before i decided to go the shortest and cleanest route of “spend this monster's attack”#which is also the most confusing wording if anything remotely unusual happens #heck it's not even clear whether it works while in defense position!#the idea is the same as Enlist: you can only use it if the monster COULD attack #so anything that prevents it from attacking also prevents it from assisting #but honestly if i were in charge i wouldn't even print this keyword because its wording is either too long or too confusing #also the Wrath effect appears on a few existing cards like Flame Wingman and i like it #Piercing also already exists in a kind of pseudo-keyword state #“if this monster attacks a defense position monster inflict piercing battle damage to your opponent”

we just played a session of our campaign which was like the first HUGE arc finale, and I can only summarise it by saying that nemja's evil ex survived being barbequed by the most powerful magic source in the world because we teleported him away with us, 3 characters got powers / memories back that they didn't have access to since the start of the campaign and nemja's kids (yeah he stole some kids) very likely died a really horrible and cruel and undeserving death and none of these things are on the top 10 of Insane Things That Happened This Session
