Today was a beautiful sunny day in Kyiv. Whenever we went, chestnut seeds kept falling from the trees and lying scattered under our feet. Even when we were drinking beer, watching the panel houses (as well as ugly new houses) light up and the cars clog up in traffic jams on the way out of the Left Bank, we could still hear chestnuts fall. This is everything. This is home.

People don't want character redemption they want a revenge plot from a story that was never supposed to be about revenge

Switching to Linux hot take:

Recovering windows users shouldn't switch to a "windows-like" DE. Give them something totally alien like GNOME or Budgie. Likewise, we should recommend ex Mac users KDE or Cinnamon.

Reason: Linux is not the same as those OSes. Its imitations of their interfaces are incomplete, so it will feel like a knockoff.

A new GUI paradigm sets Linux apart in the mind and encourages learning. Then once the user is proficient in customizing their desktop, they can bring back the features they valued in those systems.

I’m sorry but the flat way that the fandom tackles the Enji Todoroki problem is so blegh. Yes, how he treated them (especially Shouto—we don’t 100% know if Touya’s training was the same, especially because he actually liked his training) was wrong, the way he treated his wife was wrong, the way he ignored his other kids is wrong. HOWEVER, him cutting Touya off from training was NOT 100% wrong. Should he have treated it more delicately? Yes. Should he have been more considerate to his kid? Yes. Should he have gotten him some kind of therapy to help him cope with his obvious mental issues? Also yes. But cutting him off from training when he gets hurt doing so and it’s unavoidable is NOT wrong. He was trying to prevent exactly what happened in the end. Maybe he could have revisited it a few years later when training isn’t all Touya is and looked into support items, idk, but Enji’s approach was the right decision in the wrong way.

#really Touya had some mental issues that couldn’t have just been from enji #because looking at it he wasn’t as bad on screen to Touya as he was to shouto #I feel like no one talks about that #shouto’s trauma kinda gets overlooked because he was strong enough to overcome it #but it was still there and erasing it erases his whole character arc #and really in the end touya did bad things. he became a villain. he killed people #despite the whole ‘touya died dabi was born’ thing they had going on (which was NOT MEANT TO BE TAKEN LITERALLY #ITS A LITERARY ELEMENT THAT EXPRESSES FIGURATIVE REBIRTH) people in this fandom oh so love to disconnect touya from dabi #they are the SAME PERSON #touya tried to KILL shouto when he was a baby #he has had VERY deep-seated issues for a very long time #and honestly I think he was born with it #and the environment he grew up in made it worse #that’s just my two cents tho #shouto todoroki #touya todoroki #dabi todoroki #dabi #mha dabi #mha #bnha #enji todoroki #todoroki #todoroki family

you know what, I actually will talk about this because it's bothering me. The issue with focussing so heavily on syd and carmy's potential for a romantic relationship isn't that there's something inherently unintellectual about romance or whatever, it's that a lot of people seem incapable of doing that without immediately flattening the story and ignoring or intentionally misreading any and all nuance for the sake of that romance. Every scene suddenly becomes about how it impacts their relationship, every analysis is done through a romantic lens, every frame or line of dialogue becomes about finding some easter egg or hint that "proves" these people should start dating. Their dynamic is absolutely a fundamental part of this show, but if you can only see it as a will-they-won't-they, you miss so much of what the story is actually trying to say with these two.

There are good versions of this story where their relationship is romantic and there are good versions of this story where it isn't, but as soon as you decide them being together is "the point," you lose the ability to actually judge the story for what it is, not what you want it to be.

#like so much of their dynamic (esp but not exclusively in S3) has been about showing the ways that carmy's trauma and dysfunctional #attitude in the kitchen impacts other people and how even though he cares about syd and wants their partnership to work he keeps self #sabotaging and setting himself and by extension her and the restaurant up to fail and replicating the same toxic environments that #he grew up and trained in and this is very much consistent with his character and a natural continuation of the conflicts they've been #having since S1 but because him being shitty with her runs contrary to them getting together suddenly its 'ruining the story' and #out of character and only happening bc the writers just hate to see this ship winning and like. if you really think that i genuinely don't #know what show you've been watching bc it sure as shit wasn't this one. like it hurts to see him do this because you know #they could do something genuinely great together and that he's ruining a really good thing but this is also the reality of where he is rn #if he was just a good and supporting business partner and not deeply dysfunctional it would be wildly out of character #the problem w S3 wasn't that it 'ruined' their relationship it's that it had no clear focus overemphasized carmy's arc at the expense #of the other leads deprioritized the supporting cast while failing to give them their own arcs gave more screen time to #unecessary and uninteresting new 'comic relief' characters and let conflicts stagnate without resolving them or #letting them evolve over the course of the season.#this isn't exclusive to the bear this is a general trend ive noticed where as soon as the 'shipper' part of people's brains get activated #it's like they lose the ability to read the story any other way and it stops being about what's good for the narrative and starts being #about whether or not these two people kiss and anything that gets in the way of that is bad and anything that brings it closer is good #and it's usually whatever but it's really frustrating when the story ppl are doing that to is this good #it also makes people fundamentally incapable of treating any 'obstacle' to that romance in a way that isn't wildly meanspirited and #gross (esp bc those characters are usually women) which is exhausting. like no claire isn't evil or a 'pick me' or 'bad' for carmy #or a useless addition to the story or whatever other nonsense you guys have decided must be true to feel okay. she's a perfectly normal #character and their relationship is exploring some of the ways that carmy's inability to deal with or actually address his trauma #impacts the various relationships in his life. she doesn't even have to be a monster or a narrative mistake for him and syd to be #'destined' for each other or whatever. this isn't a middle school wattpad fic.#im definitely gonna get killed in the street for this but ive been looking for a good reason to spend less time on here so might as well #the bear #sydcarmy #sydney adamu #carmy berzatto

also also I know everyone likes to talk about how good of an archon Venti is because he left mondstadt to do its own thing and hey look Zhongli's doing the same now with his retirement but I also like how the story shows it isn't without flaws, with so much freedom in the city it's all too easy to take control with power, Mondstadt's people may be free but they also don't have a god to actually uphold the ideal they stand for and how personal freedoms conflict, discrimination(eg. against Eula and her clan) is allowed because the people are free to do whatever they want, the fatui really wormed their way into mondstadt during the webtoon + nearly did with Davalin bc the people of mondstadt do whatever they want so Jean is overworked and the knights are ineffective(according to Diluc), and how mondstadt might have been the least free place for the common people during the Lawrences rule despite being the region governed by the archon of freedom

Zhongli at least first tested his people were ready before retiring, Venti kinda acended, organized a bunch of celebrations for his people, then left them to have fun with their newfound freedom only interveining when things get really bad

#to be fair zhongli's only left his people for a couple of years so who knows maybe if he left them for long enough #despite honing his nation on honesty and contracts things would delve into chaos too #or a capitalistic mess and we all know what it's like to live in one of those #now if liyue didn't have plot-armour-due-to-chinese-region-in-a-chinese-game............#my thoughts on liyue are 'god i wish its story was actually about the common folk common folk #but what i know of the chinese government is the communist party represents the common folk #so in reality it's more like common-folk-party-does-so-good-for-the-common-folk see????'#i really like liyue and its environment too!#wish they explored its flaws too and didn't present it as perfect due to china-chinese-media-relationship!#all of liyue's plots are like 'it's the time of the common folk i want to tell stories about the common people'#'(but also hold on to tradition and respect the traditions which are represented by the adepti)'#can we pls have some actual flaws like the rigidity of contracts and lack of change and rule of tradition #instead of 'contracts are good and honest and also change as the times change for the good of the people'#like yes zhongli at least tested his people before implementing that big change of stepping down #but also if the game didn't have to put china in a positive light tbh idk if he would have done that #as it might be more interesting to explore his archonhood ideal in both its good and its bad #and may have focused more on liyue's difficulting in changing and adapting to the modern tiemes #if venti is the god of freedom and is too free at times then zhongli the god of contracts is too stagnant at times #i have. complicated feelings about liyue due to my complicated feelings about being raised chinese #so mondstadt my fav for representing and giving people freedom #genshin talk

This is not an original observation, but “war crimes” truly is such a dystopian phrase.

Not that there’s no value in being able to describe (and prosecute) violence that’s especially beyond the pale, but the conceptual framework that implies there’s such a thing as good legal “civilized” war, that those acts of extreme violence are the exception to the rule as opposed to the logical outcome.

#CLEARLY this is not a shrug at the seriousness of war crimes but a condemnation of war #saying this is a great way to get a whole range of people really angry at you but imo we can acknowledge #that there have been regimes/armies/individuals with a particular penchant for brutality #AND acknowledge that when you build a violence machine what you get from it is violence.#it’s a Few Bad Apples vs this is a literal compost pile designed expressly to be an environment in which apples rot kinda problem.#no more war #my posts

It will definitely not escape Megatron's notice that she is. Small. Very small. I feel like there will be a serious emphasis on speed and stealth, considering how she's just. Little compared to everyone else. As a general rule I see tfp Megatron as an utter helicopter parent, or a "throw you to the wolves" parent. Very little middle ground on how hands on he is. I'm going with my favored path, the helicopter parent.

He's definitely going to impart as little information as possible, especially regarding the war and Optimus and the autobots. This leads to consequences regarding the terrans having a bond akin to splitspark, if not deeper so. I can see in this 'verse this happening after the Orion Arc, meaning Megs is trying his hardest not to make the same mistakes twice and less likely to give Twitch as much freedom as he did Orion (it eases his paranoia some that she's a new build and not a skilled and experienced archivist)

It's gotta be an interesting connection to see that the terrans survive off of water, rather than energon. That has gotta be such a thing considering how much of the fighting on earth is over energon.

I have found a beautiful perfect humble rock specimen that is light yellow with a weird dark yellowy brown lining, somewhat resembling a chunk of smoked gouda cheese... effervescent

#I am still very into trash collecting at the moment and even went out and got one of those grabby sticks for cheap and a little #bucket I can carry around and put trash in. so I am going on walks in nature a bit more (not really to enjoy nature but more to play the #very fun Real Life Hidden Object Point And Click Game that is 'hunt for bottle caps and cans' .. but eh.. whatever gets me out of the #house lol).. anyway.. some nature places near water will have cool rocks #Which I know you're not supposed to take them and I MOSTLY dont.. but every once in a while it's like... when else will I ever find a #gouda rock... I have cleaned up 4 buckets of trash today.. I have helped the environment.. mayhaps.. i could take a One Single Rocke as a #treate... ANYWAY. but yeah. I don't know the names of rocks but there's a rock that's a matte muted marigold yellow sort of #color and I call them 'cheese rock'. I'm pretty sure this one is of the 'cheese rock' species but it just has weird brown coloration #like maybe it got stained or something on one side of it. Most of the other cheese rocks have no markings. though sometimes there will be a #auburn reddish sort of hue on a corner or something.. hrmm.. curious. I also got a Beginner's Hobby rock tumbler and some supplies #so I might try polishing some of the rocks from my enormous rock collection. even though they're all street rocks I picked up from sidewalk #and stuff. I saw a video where someone put random gravel and stuff in a rock tumbler and none of them were Stunning Gems or whatver #but some still turned out cool enough that I would be pleased with the result... OUgh.. I want to post more I need to like do costumes and #sculptures and stuff and be Active On Social Media and think about my Future and Career and how it always benefits artists to keep an #active social media or etc. but I just feel so tired and bad lately. I think the summer heat waves have really exhausted me. I also have #been trying to make new friends + on a weird schedule so I've been socializing and also watching media too much.
