Anyway, if you aren’t Black don’t use any variation of woke. I don’t care what conservatives are calling fuckers/using as the new sjw/political correctness/what have you.
If you know what fuckers mean use what they mean, and if you don’t why are you copying what people are saying?
Woke ain’t for you. If the discussion isn’t about Black people being aware of and/or educating other Black people about racism/antiblackness/structural inequality/all the other bullshit then it doesn’t need to be used in the discussion.
#nix meows#aave#woke#aave misuse#apparently that one post i made where i directly mentioned how i don't wanna see boogleech no more showed up in his tags#which is generally how tumblr's search function works; if a word in there it shows up#anyway i do wish a motherfucker would learn to take a hint that i do not wish to continue a conversation#cause all i'm getting is excuses about how he's just paraphrasing so its fine#that other people don't have an issue and not 'to shoot the messenger#my wigga i was forced to see the word 'wokeist' (yall know i can't spell) on a post from someone i know is white#who's posts show up everyfucking where in the corner of tumblr i generally operate in#why would i give a damn what the rest of the post was about when a wigga shouldn't be using words like that period#aint no fucking changing my mind#ya ruined my night and i don't wanna see ya#i aint ask nobody to block you or some shit like that#i personally don't wanna get microaggressed on my own damn dash cause my white mutuals (who mean well but dont all ways catch shit)#decided to reblog it untagged#like yeah its pretty easy to drop a bitch i only occasionally interacted with over the course of a few years over#it just on the innitial 'it's not an issue' dismissal#told me everything i needed to know#bogleech#may as well actually tag them cause I've been feeling a lot less charitible given how they handled shit and kept trying to shut me up#plus they're a vote blue no matter who fucker like genocide joe is harm reduction

A PSA for tagging DPxDC Content
This post will include:
The proper tags to use when posting
Why we use them and not the parent fandom tags
A chart of key words to help you filter
Image descriptions under the cut
We know we can't control who tags what, and how tumblr chooses to work, or not work, but these are just some general guidelines to help everyone find or block our content.
Tumblr media
What DPxDC Tags should you use?
General: dpxdc always
More Specific Tags: Batpham, dpxjl, dpxyj
For ALL ships please add “ship” after the ship name. For example: Dead Tired ship, Dead on Main ship, Double Edged Sword ship
What Tags should you NOT use?
Parent Fandom Tags: Danny Phantom, dp, Phandom, Phanart, Phanfic, DC Comics, DC Universe, dc, Batfamily, Batfam, Superfam
Variations of General Tags: dp x dc, dcxdp, dc x dp, dp x jl, dp x yj, dp/dc, dc/dp,
For ships please don’t tag JUST the ship name. For example: Dead Tired, Dead on Main, Double Edged Sword
As a general fandom tag we are using dpxdc, WITH NO SPACES.
Why no spaces? Tumblr is so glitchy it’s baffling a very functional website. Because of this we’ve received reports that sometimes if a post is tagged "dp x dc" or “dp/dc” then, even when the tag is blocked, the posts will still show up in the individual "dp" and "dc" tags. That isn’t cool.
Why is it important to tag separately?
dpxdc is a big crossover. The crossover fandom has been rapidly growing over the past year. The crossover fandom drowns out the original dp/danny phantom fandom by a lot, especially for people who may be interested in dpxdc but also want to enjoy regular phandom content. By not using the dp and danny phantom tags, it helps a lot to not drown out the main fandom's inhabitants and content. dpxdc as a fandom tends to pump out a lot of content (which is amazing), but that means that we need to be careful to not suffocate the main fandoms. "Why can't I tag the danny phantom or batfam main fandoms? it's a crossover" -- yeah, it is a crossover, but it's a crossover that is huge (especially in comparison to danny phantom) and dpxdc has taken over the main fandom tags. It's causing a lot of animosity and tension on both sides.
Additionally, the crossover (like most fandoms) comes with some common characterizations, tropes, aus, and concepts that tend to be interpretations that do not link back to the main fandom well. While fandoms come up with their own characterizations, tropes, aus, and concepts, it's important to know when a crossover fandom has existed long enough to establish its own sets of common themes that the main fandom may want nothing to do with.
This doesn’t mean you have to pick between dpxdc and its parent fandoms, like Danny Phantom or DC or Batfam. Indeed, by NOT tagging dpxdc with its parent fandoms, you are ensuring that people who want a space for dpxdc and a space for its parent fandoms can have both! We don’t have to pick sides! But in order to have both, we need to tag dpxdc content with a tag we can search (that is, dpxdc), AND we need to make sure we’re NOT tagging the parent fandoms (such as, danny phantom).
What if I don't want to see dpxdc content?
Here {link} is an in depth guide on how to block tags and filter certain content from appearing on your dash. We also ask that you please keep any venting out of the dpxdc.
However, if you’d like an easy list of terms to just put into your filters, we’ve made a chart!
Tumblr media
Thank you!!! 🦇👻🦇👻🦇👻🦇👻🦇👻🦇👻🦇👻🦇👻🦇👻🦇👻🦇👻🦇

Are your in-post hyperlinks not working?
It appears Tumblr recently changed a policy regarding post URL generation that makes your previous URLs invalid, which would affect master lists, cross-post references, etc.
The old URLs still work in the mobile app (for now) but they no longer work via browser.
I threw together some screen captures below showing the problem (below the cut). I've also included brief instructions on how to fix the problem.
If anyone has input or alternative solutions, please comment or reblog w/comments to help others :D
I noticed the problem a few days ago. I usually access Tumblr via mobile, but when I publish fics I use Tumblr through my browser.
Right now NONE of my links auto-created prior to 3/12/23 are working on browser, only links that were created after.
For example, I clicked on chapter 4 of a series I published months ago.
Tumblr media
Instead of navigating to the hyperlinked page for chapter 4, the page instead functions as though you were searching the blog and gives you search results (or lack thereof).
In the example below, Tumblr says @deadbranch's blog doesn't contain a post when searching "the-killing-moon-chapter-4".
The previous URL that auto-generated when I published chapter 4 was "https://at.tumblr.com/deadbranch/the-killing-moon-chapter-4/8s73ajf05k8y"
Tumblr media
You can see a comparison below of the obsolete URL (top) and the new valid URL (bottom).
Tumblr media
The new URLs no longer use "at" in front of Tumblr and the initial summary words and randomized alpha-numeric string have been replaced with "www" and a string of numbers only, respectively.
To clarify, I've always published via browser, so the change in URL format comes from a Tumblr policy change, not the user switching from browser to mobile or vice versa.
TO FIX:
Go into the mobile app, click on the hyperlink that doesn't work in browser mode. Select mobile Tumblr.
Tumblr media
Click on the three dots in the upper right corner of the post and click. Select "copy link" in the popup.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Once the new URL is copied to your clipboard, return to the page with the obsolete hyperlink, go into edit mode, and update the link.
If you don't mind your links not working in browser mode you don't have to do any of this. I believe most Tumblr users access content through the app, so this may not be a problem for most.
I use my browser frequently for editing and publishing, so this would be a major inconvenience if I left this as-is.
It's possible the Tumblr team is aware of the problem and will fix it, but I'm moving forward with updating my links anyway.
Hope this was helpful.
As mentioned previously, please comment if you have information to add or if there's a better way to fix the issue.
Good luck & take care, everyone.

I know that might have seemed like something against your content but it truly wasnt. I've seen many adult creators not know that their stuff was appearing in main tags where it might reach wider than their target audience. I was Genuinely trying to make sure you knew. I am sorry you've dealt with enough negativity when expressing yourself on here that my message registered as hostile
no, your message registered as ignorant. my content is NOT appearing in main tags because i am not using general tags on my posts. YOU are not searching Tagged Results. and that's all on you, baby. you COULD search tags, but you're not. and then you're over here trying to tell me something as if your ignorant choices are My responsibility, when they're not. your message says, "i don't know how to properly search for anything on this website" and that's just not my problem. that is literally not something within my responsibility, it's not something to be held accountable for. which is what you're trying to do... incorrectly. if you're not against my posts, then why you saying anything to me about your personal skill issue? did you see the post staff made, a whopping TEN YEARS AGO, about the search functionality update? educate yourself.
asking someone, who is not using main tags on their posts, to prevent their posts from showing up in general search results is asking them to silence themselves and not write ANYTHING about the topic at all. because search results provide a feed based on using EVERY word in a post as a "keyword." do you understand that? you're going around telling adult creators not to write their posts at all, so they won't show up in your keyword algorithm based General Search results, instead of searching ACTUAL TAGS and using tag filters to avoid any adult content you don't approve of seeing in the generalized search results... Do You Understand How The Search Feature On Tumblr Works? because you keep talking like you don't, and like that has fuck all to do with me or ANY other creator on here...
Tumblr media
did you even read my reply? because i took the time to explain this to you. i showed you the difference between searching a 'word' and a 'tag' and then you sent me this ask... like... you need to learn better and do better. stop harassing creators, whether they make adult posts or sfw only content, because YOU DON'T KNOW HOW TO SEARCH TAGGED RESULTS. your willful ignorance is not everyone else's responsibility.

a digital artist’s guide to digital art guides
hi my qualification for writing this guide to youtube art tutorials (though it may be applicable to other forms of media as well) is that i have watched over (roughly) 200 art tutorials of various length, artistry, content, style, and more
when we’re told “look up guides online” there’s not really much more to say on how to approach our research and taking them in, so if you’re a little lost in the vast sea of art help like i was as a wee bab, then this may help!
General Use:
don’t feel bad for skipping - if something isn’t striking you as informative or helpful, don’t feel bad for moving right along and treating it like a sponsor
^ also applies for lengthy talking or deriving from the point, if you’re not up for it. you don’t need to sit through the artists’ whole spiel to learn how to draw hands.
if something isn’t making sense, reach out to communities for help, and go beyond youtube/tumblr. reddit and discord servers are also full of places to go to talk to more ppl
trust your gut! if someone’s style makes you go “hmm this feels wrong and objectifying”, it’s because it is - feel free to move right along
^ also applies for if it feels like the artist is just showing off and not explaining enough, or just posting for ego boost or to get coin.
... related tip but if an artist likes to rant about discourse as the primary thing on their channel, i know drama can be fun and juicy but please just avoid these people, because generally they’re either nasty and toxic-minded, or they seem to have some bs going on for them in the background
check out comments and online discussion to see how well received a popular artist is, and pay attention to their discourse to avoid any mistakes they unintentionally or even proudly display
the art program is not important!!! every art program has some level of similar functionality, some with more bells and whistles than others, and very rarely does one program lack a key tool the others don’t have. the hardest part is translating what your artist means when they say one thing but your program has another - but more often than not, some similar wording or like words are used for the same tool or setting.
^ this means you can watch that tutorial on how to draw legs for clip studio if all you have is firealpaca
Information over Entertainment! the best artists to find help in are ones who focus primarily on relaying information and less on colorful quirky editing - those kinds CAN be helpful, but in general i tend to find more useful tips in videos that feel more academic as opposed to more entertaining.
don’t feel bad for flatout ignoring advice. if you found something that works better for you, please use it. feel free to try new techniques as well if you’re feeling stuck or want a change of pace!
Terms and Conditions:
What words should you use when finding the right video? Think like a content creator, here. General words are best when searching for the right video, and in order to think of those words, you need to know the parts of art. Lines, anatomy, colors, values, background, perspective, etc - figure out which part or parts you struggle with, and use one term at a time.
What types of videos are for me? If you are a Fresh Brand New Baby Beginner Artist that doesn’t even know much about art letalone art programs, then stick to tutorials that are labelled “for beginners”. If you know your way around an art program but you’re still pretty new, then your average art tutorial should be most helpful. More entertaining artists should be ok to start with! If you know your way around art but not programs, look for “art program reviews”, then once you’ve picked one or a few to mess around with (though I really recommend one at a time), look for “(program name) intro to / introductory”. And if you are well aware of everything I’ve listed, then you’ll be needing “intermediary / intermediate” tutorials. These ones are best given by master artists who focus on academic presentation. If you’re a master, you don’t even need this tumblr post wyd  😂

Hi, sorry to do this, but I notice you vent about the TGCF manhua art quite a bit… Which within itself is fine; it’s your blog and your opinion and you don’t have to like it, but…
The main thing is, when you type a post with barely any text and then put most of your thoughts in the tags, it will show up when other people look through the tags…since that’s how the Tumblr search function works.
So for example, if I’m interested in finding posts on various manhua (not solely related to TGCF), I end up having to scroll through quite a few posts of yours where you’re just dissing the TGCF manhua. Which is again fine in it being your opinion, but it makes it a bit harder for people browsing like me who just want to enjoy various manhua and weren’t intending to view multiple negative posts in a row that could lean toward discourse or drama-stirring.
I’m not even that into TGCF or the manhua myself, but I do like different donghua and manhua and it’s just a tad awkward scrolling through an already mostly quiet and empty tag and just coming across multiple posts that seem designed as a personal opinion that is meant to be shared to one’s blog/followers rather than the full public of Tumblr[’s search function] (I realize the tags can feel like a quieter place to communicate your thoughts, and this is true for reblogs, but for original posts, it only draws more eyes to your post if someone’s searching up key words in the search bar).
Plus as mentioned, the manhua tag can be pretty quiet, so it’s just a bit inundated at the moment with the TGCF manhua hate (it’s not just you that does this). And the perpetuation of “not really actual manhua content” is only exacerbated with the fact that manhua in general is such an underrated medium, and the tag is already flooded with people mistagging different manhwa as manhua etc.
That’s why I thought I’d mention it, although usually I wouldn’t try to say anything! Apologies for the long message. You can go back to hating the TGCF manhua now, but I hope you’ll be willing to at least take the tagging stuff into consideration. 😅
yeah i know how the tumblr tagging system works and i decided i don’t like. particularly care. it’s how i post 🤷 also correct me if i’m wrong but i’ve literally made two posts abt this in the last like. week. that’s it. 😭 i don’t go out of my way to make original posts abt this series bc like. it’s not the focus of my blog? and i was just annoyed i kept getting messages and rbs abt it on my silly little poll blog 😭😭 i don’t make a point of clowning on the manhua

Yea I know how the search function works the reason why I say manhua in the tags instead of specific things like tgcf or starember is so that it doesn’t show up in the tgcf or starember tags (so no I’m not tryna start discourse or stir drama) I literally didn’t think anyone went into the generic manhua search page lmfao 😂 and I don’t even do this thaaat often I made like 3 posts in the last couple days bc ppl were being annoying about a poll. But like whatever i mean if it bothers you That Much I’ll try to remember to sensor manhua in the tags too skdjdjcjejdjeidjdj

Maybe you just don't want to talk about this with anyone, so feel free to ignore it, I'm glad if you only read. Please please take control of the people you follow, the people you interact with and have on your blog or in any other site or social media that you use to share your interest in BTS... Our experience in the fandom will depend 100% on that, the way you see armys will be entirely affected by it. Don't follow anyone just 'cause they're nice if what they say upsets you, don't be afraid to block or unfollow anyone who makes you uncomfortable. There are many types of armys and accounts you can engage with, there are fanbases sharing beautiful projects and kind actions from armys around the world, there are artist armys (just like you!) who show their creations, armys focusing on gathering votes and streams (this will be forever important) and overall many many armys who just care about what BTS have to say, trusting their messages and trying their best every day. I'm afraid that you may start to see armys in a negative way, I'm afraid that you can believe that this fandom isn't a good fandom, that this doesn't feel like home... This is not true, please remember that? Ever since I becamy army I never thought bad of this fandom and I always could understand why BTS love armys so much, 'cause armys have been comforting me too and I don't even have friends... I'm comforted just by "strangers". Even on Twitter, where things are much bigger and easier to trigger us, I've found my "safety zone". It's all a result of whom you follow. This doesn't mean I haven't found mean people, stalkers or antis, I did and sometimes I kept looking for them, even knowing how it made me feel, but I do my best to control what and whom I search for. Please take care of this ♡ life is already so hard, this part doesn't need to also be. Our fandom is the biggest in this world and of course that it means there'll be more toxic and obsessed people, the bigger it is it can be scarier, but I hope you can always see that this number isn't even close to all the kind armys who learn a lot with BTS, all the armys chasing for their future and trying to be better human beings. You're one of them!
oh you’re very sweet for sending all this, I appreciate it. I just think that it’s pretty much impossible to avoid any of this simply because of how today’s social media works; I have a tiny twitter account, only follow a very small bunch of fans (mostly mutuals from here and editmys/fanartists); the algorithm still suggests super problematic tweets to me. Which is sad in itself because those tweets get so much traction that they’re suggested to me, do you know what I mean? I do block and mute every single one of these accounts, have a mile-long list of muted words, and yet. And just leaving or disabling these functions would let me not see the stuff I would like to see anymore, so that’s also not great. Tumblr is comparably fine but is also absolutely deserted and boring. I’m sorry to say this but ever since I joined the fandom two years ago, I had my opinion on the general vibe of armys and this didn’t change at all. I’ve never seen this fandom as a healthy community or a home, I’m only in it because I love the group. Yes there are definitely amazing (and sane) people I’ve met here on tumblr through the boys and I’m so grateful for that, but unfortunately it’s really just a very small number of people who I truly get along with (probably my own fault but yeh). Also it’s not just the negativity by the way, but also the infantilism, or the other extreme, sexualisation of the members, the absolute obsession with chart and streaming numbers, awards and records, the “quantity over quality” way of thinking, the list goes on. There’s just so much I can’t vibe with, don’t want to. I’m trying my best to keep curating my own fandom experience and I don’t see myself not following bts’ career at any time soon, but it still sucks that such a big part of loving them feels so.. corrupted at times.

Experiments show that our model not only generates novel and valid DAGs, but also produces a smooth latent space that facilitates searching for DAGs with better performance through Bayesian optimization. … https://analytixon.com/2022/12/03/if-you-did-not-already-know-1901/?utm_source=dlvr.it&utm_medium=tumblr

Firstly, I wanna say hi and Im a fan of your meta post. I love reading them. I just love them. So, I wanna ask. Do you know the Red\Blue theory surrounding Buddie? If so can you elaborate on this? I really wanna know and wanna know your thoughts on this, Thank you in advance
Awwww! hi lovely, and thank you so much for the kind words! I'm so happy you enjoy those meta posts! And thank you for letting me know, it's never something I take for granted! *hugs*
Oooh, the red/blue theory. I believe I've gotten an ask about it in the past, but Tumblr's search function is a disgrace to coding, so I'm not sure how to find it. I do know it and that the red/blue theory is a general theory in fandom, not just the Buddie/911 fandom, about how shows use red and blue to symbolize opposites who complete each other, red for the more fiery character and blue for the more sensible one. NGL, this would work so well for Buck and Eddie in THE scene at the end of ep 303. They're in those colors and the symbolism matches their roles in that scene perfectly. And I know costume designers do sometimes think about costume colors, I had a friend who studied stage design for theater and for example, she told me that red and yellow together are meant to represent conflict since they're two "basic" colors that clash. So people in these professions do think about colors and their effect. But TBH, other than that iconic scene, I'm not sure I've seen red/blue in a very obvious way that plays into those roles for Buck and Eddie. I'll add here that I hesitate to look at the blue of their uniforms for this, since it's not like the wardrobe department has a choice about that one. And then there are certain places where I'd expect it, but it's not there. For example, in 414 when Buck and Eddie have THE talk, which parallels their talk in 303, their colors don't align with the theory at all. I'll continue to keep an eye out, though. I do think it will be interesting if we see something else matching it in s5. ;) Thank you so much for the ask, lovely! xoxox
Ooooh, to the Nonnie with the fic prompt, thank you so much! I love it and I wanna write it! I hope I can and that you'll like it! xoxox
(more under the cut)
Music nonnie back again! Not commenting on anything from the finale (i lowkey hated Skyscraper lol), but knowing what we know now re: Eddie's will, I wanted to revisit the EddieAna math date. It has so many layers now! Eddie bringing Chris' math hw bc the connection is more Ana/Chris than Eddie/Ana (right, Carla?), Ana saying there hasn't been anyone else and Eddie reacting with THAT look, and then the song about needing to get home...Eddie going home to Buck? Come on now!
Hi Music Nonnie! It's always such a wonderful thing, to get to hear from you! :D And oh, I am SO with you, that date from ep 408 has a different meaning, after Carla implied Eddie's main reason to be with Ana would be Chris. Because bringing homework to a romantic date, even if the person you're dating is a teacher, is weird. Actually scratch that, *especially* if the person you're dating is a teacher. When people are off work, the last thing they wanna hear about is work, you get what I mean? Even when they love what they do, they usually want a bit of respite from it. And I know I commented on how weird bringing homework to the date is. But it makes perfect sense if it was a way to point out that Chris is why Eddie is pushing so hard with Ana, the 'playful' teacher talk keeps happening because her being Chris' teacher is constantly on his mind. Oh, Eddie's kiss with Ana being interrupted so he can go home to his (husband) best friend was already all sorts of domestic and fanfic-y, but knowing that despite getting together with Ana for Chris' sake, Buck was always the ultimate partner for Eddie when it came to Chris, that just makes the choices in that ep stand out even more! Loved talking about this with you, thank you! xoxox
Alice,my gorgeous love, how are you? I have two questions for you👉👈 1. I've written about this in my blog and I'd like to know your opinion. There were no eddiana kisses due to the whole season. Could it be because of the covid as in maybe Ryan wasn't ready or something like that, or because of the narrative as in to emphasize their lack of chemistry in their relationship? 2. Ravi and Albert are going to be a part of 118, how much they are going to effect on Buddie? Because to me they may seem like their younger version lol. Maybe they are the ones who will notice and will idk push buck and Eddie to get together. Sounds crazy ik lol Hope you have a great evening. Also I hope you will create some amazing and incredible fics and I can not wait to read them. I also gonna be honest with you and say that I miss talking to you in private. I know you have a lot of things going on and I respect your life and your privacy. I just want to let you know that and I love you and I appreciate you 💕💕
@christopherismybuddie my darling love! Thank you so much for the ask and I hope you're doing well yourself! *hugs*
oh, as for the kissing thing... If it were about covid, they shouldn't have exchanged even a cheek kiss without masks on, so I tend to think it was a deliberate storytelling choice. Yes, I think everything lines up to tell us something isn't working with Eddie and Ana. They've been 'together' longer than Buck and Taylor, but we never got more than that cheek kiss in 414 with EddieAna, while BuckTaylor got a proper kiss in the same ep! That already says a lot about something being wrong with the EddieAna dynamic.
Oh, is Ravi a permanent addition, do we have news of that? And I def feel like Albert is meant to be a younger version of Buck. I can see him maybe observing something and just dropping a truth bomb on Buck without even realizing what he's done, but ultimately, I'd think the show would want something more dramatic than that for the couple of idiots who keep getting themselves almost killed in front of each other, and make each other the center of their life, and are still oblivious to get what they feel... XD
Thank you for wanting to read more fics from me! ;_; You have no idea how much that means, sweetheart! And I know, I wish I was around more too, but for now, I figure every day I can be in fandom despite my struggles is a win. Thank you for telling me and making me feel wanted, and I love and appreciate you too, my darling! So much! xoxox

your new gif set made me think about rebelcaptain and their main love languages… I think for jyn it’s physical touch and for cassian it’s words of affirmation :) what do you think?
honestly yes! I think that's what drunk me was unable to articulate in this ask
there was once a post about this on my blog that I'm unable to find because tumblr search function is broken as per usual but this is what it was talking about, and it makes sense for them imo
something I always think about though is that the way we express love is not always how we receive it or want to receive it, but I think even in that sense, they're compatible
so let’s say Jyn expresses love through touch (and she's honestly very touchy during the whole movie, sure there's no personal space between them from the start, but I noticed that a lot of those subtle fleeting touches were initiated by Jyn, for example when she bumps into him on the way to Scarif, or when she puts a hand on his back for a brief moment on Eadu, etc)
I think this works well for poor touch-starved Cassian who I imagine didn't have a lot of affection in his life (perhaps even less than Jyn who at least had Saw and his partisans and Hadder) so while I think he's not a very touchy person in general, with the right person, aka Jyn, he melts
(tbh I can just imagine Jyn running her hand through his hair and rubbing his scalp because that’s how she shows love and affection, and Cassian absolutely adoring it)
and then Cassian expresses it through words (like we've seen with the various instances of him shouting her name, as well as the big damn speech) which in turn works for Jyn because she's been abandoned by so many people in her life who were supposed to stay and love her unconditionally, that I feel like maybe she does need those verbal reassurances... I mean we’ve seen how much it meant to her when Cassian said “welcome home” or “your father would have been proud of you”

Whumping Safely 101
Many people in this community have mental health problems, face various types of discrimination, and have complicated relationships with some parts or types of whump. In particular, I aim this at people who care about the experience of survivors and others with triggers – partially because I am an abuse survivor who often flirts with triggering content as part of my love of whump.
Keeping your blog safe is difficult, takes effort, and is never a perfect process. But as the community grows and grows, it’s really important that we hold ourselves to a high standard. I would argue that this is a responsibility of all content creators, but especially those of us in the messy playground of whump.
I’ve got three sections in here: content warnings, writing with care, and community interaction. I’ve tried to make it navigable. It’s about 1.8k words. Shorter than a lot of drabbles! I welcome good-faith criticism on this topic and further questions on my own views.
Content Warnings
The biggest responsibility, in my opinion, is empowering your reader to make their own decision on whether they want to expose themselves to your writing. This also happens to be by far the easiest way to help people whump safely.
What to warn
This is a big and ever-changing topic. Some things you should warn for as a rule of thumb are anything NSFW, pet whump and box boy whump, drugs and alcohol, medical and hospital content, graphic gore, intimate partner violence, and animal harm. It can be tricky to draw the line of what counts – what needs a warning? If you’re in doubt, just warn it anyway. It doesn’t hurt.
If someone requests a trigger be warned for, even if it’s something that feels obscure or tame, show compassion and agree to the request. This is someone who cares enough about being able to read your writing that they wrote in! They want to be able to read it and enjoy it. You’re being complimented.
Otherwise, look at what other blogs tag for. You’ll see some variation in styles and levels of detail, but it’s a good way to gauge what people think is warn-worthy, when we’re often writing stuff that would already be R-rated in mainstream media.
Read Mores
The easiest way to make sure people don’t see your triggering content is to use a cut. Tumblr is not a very functional website and likes to delete cuts, but a cursory check of your posted content will usually tell you whether it’s worked. With asks, cuts are very spotty, so don’t be afraid to post an ask response separately with a screengrab of the original question. People often then respond to the ask itself with a link to the post, especially if it’s a whole drabble. Tumblr is weird and bad so just do your best.
Content notices
I.e., a quick summary before the drabble, usually in bold, to state what will be coming. I like to distinguish between using content notes (CN) and trigger warnings (TW) to indicate severity. Others might use the old phrase ‘dead dove do not eat’ to indicate this is a heavy piece, and often you will see qualifiers like ‘intense’, ‘mild’, ‘mention’, ‘referenced’ (i.e. it is discussed but not actively happening), and ‘implied’ (as the opposite of ‘explicit’). I’ve also seen a couple of people use ‘vibes’, which is a really nice way of demonstrating that it’s there, but not the focus. A quick paragraph like this, or just a line, lets people make a quick risk assessment on their reading.
This is also important if you’re sending in asks or requests to people. If you want to ask about something triggering, send an inquiry first about whether the blog is okay to hear it.
Tagging
Tagging is a chore, but it’s your primary way of warning people about your content. The main benefit of tagging is that you can be as detailed as you want, because can be tagging for content in general, not just triggers.
In a best case scenario, you’d tag the kind of whump you’re doing, tag triggers, tag characters, and even your ‘verses, because tagging is your index for your blog. If you tag reliably, you help your future self and your readers find stuff, and you also make your blog really dang safe. People who have unusual triggers can blacklist tags, and will pick up on your content tags to help them.
Don’t just tag your own writing. Tag your reblogs, tag your prompts, tag your asks. Yes, edit your asks to add the tags. Tag your images and gifs. Tag your images as images and your gifs as gifs.
If you aren’t up for detailed tagging for whatever reason, just tag for triggering content, and add stuff to that list if you’re asked to. My usual technique is to make a mental note of tags while I’m formatting and editing before posting.
Be aware that your first five tags will be used in search results. If you’re using tags that are associated with kink too, such as ‘shibari’, you might want to rethink your tag order if you don’t want interaction from those blogs. Also think about what tags might come up in non-whump contexts, such as ‘collar’ or ‘PTSD’. Some tactics for getting around this I’ve seen are adding ‘whump’ after the content or writing the tags in past tense (i.e., ‘collared’).
It is also a good idea to watch out for when you might be reblogging something whumpy that is intended as kink / porn / fetish, especially in images. Tagging these as spicy / nsfw / kink is a sensible move.
Writing with Care
Okay, now for the harder stuff.
I mean here to lay out some guidelines for how to write in a way that helps your reader build good faith. This is a much more nuanced topic, and it’s different for everyone. There will always be differing opinions on what should and shouldn’t be written about, what a good depiction of a sensitive topic is, and how to discuss that topic. I tried to strip this back into absolute basics that I hope we can all agree on.
Maybe your whump involves abuse. Maybe it’s gaslighting. Maybe it’s severe mental health problems, or addiction, or slavery, or you write about or analogise real-world issues. Whump deals with the dark stuff, and that’s a big part of its appeal. But don’t ever forget you’re writing the dark stuff.
(Try to) Know what you’re doing
Some of us play fast and loose with plots, medical accuracy, worldbuilding, and other things that get in the way of the pain we crave. This is all well and good, but when we start using whump that speaks true to people’s lived experiences, we shouldn’t be careless with it. I’m particularly talking about things that get represented poorly in mainstream media, such as abusive relationships, issues around marginalisation, mental illness and disability.
Be critical of media that you’ve consumed. Think about how its depicted things that you want to depict in turn. Look for opinions on fictional representations of those issues. Be aware that you might be more ignorant of things than you realise.
Look at how others are writing these issues, particularly if they’re writing from a perspective different to yours. If you haven’t personally experienced what you’re writing about, e.g., if you don’t have PTSD and you want to depict a character who does, seek out stuff written from or with experience. Listen to the experts.
If you’re looking for stuff about representation specifically, I recommend this collection of posts about ‘Braving Diversity’ cultivated by Writing With Colour, who are in themselves a fantastic resource for this topic, and have recommendations for other blogs that deal with intersecting issues.
Listen to others
Missteps are inevitable. Nobody is perfect. If constructive criticism is offered, that’s also a compliment to your writing. Someone read your work and thought about it, and thought you’d care about improving it. They’re offering themselves as a resource for helping you see your work in a new light.
Criticism is hard and sometimes hurtful, but even if we don’t think it’s accurate, there’s often a grain of truth in it. If someone tells you that your writing is harmful, think about why they’ve said that, not whether or not they’re correct. This is an opinion! Opinions are subjective! But what drove someone to send that in?
You don’t have to respond to all your criticism and definitely don’t respond straight away. Being respectful to those who are trying to help you means taking the time to consider it properly. Sometimes, they don’t need a response. Others, you might want to learn more about what they think before deciding. You might have already discussed the topic, in which case, you might just want to reblog your previous posts.
If it’s sent in bad faith or is outright hateful, you’re well within your rights to just delete it and move on. You might get the same criticism over and over again, and that’s exhausting, and you don’t have to retrace your steps for everyone.
But if it’s new, even if it puts your hackles up, you can always stop and wonder why someone felt that strongly about your work.
Take a step back
One of my better-known characters is a pet whumper who conditioned his victim to adore and depend on him. It’s not always easy to represent how deeply messed up that is within the text – though I think that’s part of the challenge – but in meta-commentary, I am always describing him as a creeptastic bastard lacking compassion and self-reflection. I hope to always give the reader the confidence that I know just how wrong it is.
This is a really simple thing you can do just to give readers good faith in you. Show that you know what you’re writing is dark and messed up. Show your understanding for the issues you’re handling and that they’re complicated. It might seem self-evident, but when you’re writing the really dark stuff, or unhealthy relationships, or institutionalised whump, you can inadvertently create the impression that you just think it’s fun. The fact that it’s fiction does not automatically absolve you. Show that you care about doing it right.
Community Interaction
I’m going to keep this one short and sweet because I will almost entirely be preaching to the choir here.
Be polite to others. Imagine saying what you’re saying to their face.
Don’t send anon hate. Just don’t. If you can send criticism off anon, do so.
Nobody is obligated to interact with you.
Nobody is obligated to monitor their own reader base.
If someone says do not interact, do not interact.
If someone says do not interact, why they’ve said that is none of your business.
You don’t need to spread the word about someone’s bad politics.
Ask yourself if your input is needed, or if what you’ve said has already been said.
You don’t have to take a side.
Take care of yourself. Take breaks. Remind yourself that whump is a small part of the world.
That’s all from me, folks. Stay safe.

Hej, I actually have three questions: How do you handle plotbunnies? I currently have 14 - more or less fleshed out. But they are mere notes. Secondly: I'm in a bind with some of my pieces. The introduction is more or less there and I have a cornerstone (an important scene) but I don't know how to get there. Thirdly: Is there a tag or so for beat readers and how much research is good? I can sink week into research a single detail. Thanks.
(A note before I begin: as of 02.04.21, asks like this violate my ask guidelines. This isn’t a personal scolding, @quamatoc, but I just want to make you and readers aware that I won’t take multiple unrelated topics in a single ask anymore. More on this AG update here.)
Handling Plot Bunnies
Honestly, the most helpful thing I've learned is that it's okay to just... let your plot bunnies be. Leave them grazing on your metaphorical mental lawn. You don't have to do something with them straight away – in fact, managing which projects you work on and when, instead of chasing down every plot bunny you see, is an important skill to learn.
I like to keep an Evernote notebook for each plot bunny, so I can update it whenever I get a new idea but don't feel like I'm abandoning the ideas or like I have to work on them Right Now. You could keep a physical notebook, a file, a digital folder full of word documents – it doesn’t matter what you use, so long as it’s something you can access easily and keep relatively organised. Sometimes fresh inspiration will strike and I'll realise that an apparently unrelated plot bunny is actually really useful for a current project, or I'll get struck with a full plot for a previously fragmented idea. Either way, it’s been really liberating to realise that I can just keep plot bunnies safe somewhere for later on.
Getting from Point A to Point B (Building the Plot)
► PLOT STRUCTURES & GENERAL NOTES
To get from place to place in a story, you need to think about what makes it tick. You don’t need to write scenes in order, though! For me, figuring out a plot is really just me asking myself a very, very long series of questions. If I know what the Big Scene is, I’ll work backwards, asking myself things and seeing how the answers could get me from point A to B.
You don’t have to figure out a plot freehand, either. If you’re struggling, you might find it useful to use a pre-made plot structure outline such as the. There are loads available online. Print out several different ones and see which fits best, put your important scene where you think it goes and work backwards, write all over them, use a giant whiteboard, write on the wall – if it helps, use it. Here’s a blog article on different types of plot structure.
I also think it's important to actually write. It's so easy to get caught up in plotting that you don't put your thoughts to paper. Make sure you don’t fall into that trap! I'm a plantser, meaning I like to do a mixture of pre-plotting and flying through drafts by the seat of my pants. Even if you’re a rigid planner, be sure to see how your ideas look in action by drafting out scenes.
► “WHAT IF?” QUESTIONS
“What if character A and B discover a secret? What if they have different opinions on what to do about the secret? What if this becomes a friends to enemies to friends to lovers plot?? – wait, no, what if they’re already enemies and this secret forces them to work together? What if—”
Brainstorm  "what if...?" questions and explore various options. You don’t have to make any final decisions – that’s the beauty of drafting! The point is to put together subplots and main plots, and see which one works best in getting you to where you want to go.
► GOALS, WANTS & AMBITIONS
A character’s ambitions, wants and goals are very important to a story. They help hook the audience in by giving them something to root for. Knowing what a character wants and what lengths they would go to to get it is crucial to driving a plot forwards, especially if your story is character-driven.
What does a character want? → A character can have multiple desires, but it’s helpful to pick one key thing that undercuts most of their actions. Maybe they want to find out who killed their mother, or escape from somewhere. Perhaps they want to steal a pretty gem. Maybe they want to be king, or they want to escape from their responsibilities as a ruler.
What steps is a character willing to take? → Some characters are willing to do anything to achieve their goals. Maybe they commit a crime, end up in prison, get nudged towards more heinous actions, and find themself in a situation they never would have expected. Other characters are more cautious, but get pushed to breaking point – and then make a Bad Decision that bring about a major plot point. The steps a character makes are what puts them on the path of your plot.
Could anything change a character’s desires, or influence them to take different/more drastic measures? If so, what, and how would this change plot events? → Let’s say that your cornerstone scene is when character A steals from character B, but A starts the story unfailingly loyal to B and only wants to protect them. In order to get to that cornerstone, you’d need to work out what could happen to change A’s priorities. Change is invaluable in getting from plot point to plot point. If something happens that changes what a character wants – i.e., a betrayal, a sudden exile, or a change in fortunes – it can push them down paths they wouldn’t have otherwise considered.
► CONFLICT & OBSTACLES
Just as characters need to want something; plots need conflict and obstacles to make them interesting.
What could go wrong? How would the character(s) try to solve the problem? → “How can I create problems?” is probably the most valuable question an author can ask when building the plot; asking yourself how the characters try and solve said problem just pushes it even further, like this:
Does the attempted solution work? Whether it succeeds or fails, does it have any unexpected consequences? → Say that your Important Scene takes place in a different location to where your characters start out. So, the thing that goes wrong means your characters need to flee (the solution), and it works! They’ve escaped! Only now, they don’t have anywhere safe to go, and so they end up going into the place where Important Scene happens. Or maybe they don’t escape, and their attempt means that they’re transported to a more secure location, which in turn gives them an opportunity to get to Important Scene Location.
Do A’s goals conflict with another character’s goals? What would the other character do to protect their own interests? → If your cornerstone scene involves a clash of two armies, you need to think about what could ramp up the tension between the two sides, and conflicting interests is a great way to do this. Maybe your protagonist is trying to save the world from impending doom, but the queen of a neighbouring land is blinded by hunger for more land and riches. Or, the protagonist is a queen-in-exile trying to wrestle the throne back from the tyrannical relative who usurped her. Think about how each characters’ moves against the other could drive the plot.
The key is to think of it as building a structure out of bricks or slabs. You have your cornerstone – great! – now you need to work out what parts go where.
Research and Beta Readers
Research is something I wholeheartedly and unironically love. I will actually give myself research days a treat for reaching certain writing goals! So, naturally, I'm going to say that there's no limit on how much research one should do to create a story. That said, there is one caution to keep in mind: research is good, so long as you don't let it stop you from actually writing OR let it turn your writing into something akin to an instruction manual. In early drafts, try replacing any specific information you need with a code such as [ELEPHANT] or [KX] – basically, something you can find easily with the search function later on when you’ve researched it.
To find beta-readers, I recommend using the writeblr tag. It's where the bulk of the community puts their stuff. Make a post like "call for beta readers" with information about your project and use the buzzword tags like "writeblr" "writers on tumblr" "writers of tumblr" "beta readers" and whatever genre is applicable. Avoid external links in the post, otherwise it won't show up in the tags.

Hello! I wanted to ask you this bc I really admire your work and blog, and I get the sense that you're a person who can tackle nuance well (and I believe this topic deserves it). I've tried wording this as best as I could, and I'm sorry that it's very long.
I've started getting the impression that some parts of the Good Omens fanbase have been sort of contained, if that makes sense. I feel like small creators have a hard time getting attention to their work anymore. As if people are only looking at the same handful of established creators nowadays (and that those creators are only looking at one another). And by extension, content really only gets attention if it's liked/shared by certain people. And then on top of that, it really constricts a lot of topics in fic and art that get appreciated.
I know that the hype for Good Omens has died down in the past year and that explains a major dip in interest, but I still feel there's an imbalance. I see genuinely good work overlooked time and time again, and I worry that my own work has been looked over bc it simply hasn't been deemed a fan favorite. For a while it looked like there was an effort to boost smaller creators, but it's seems like it phased out pretty quickly. I will be honest, it's been a little discouraging. It feels like the Good Omens fanbase is a club a lot of us have been almost excluded from.
I wanted to know if I'm just imagining this whole scenario or if it's a thing others have noticed? If others have noticed, what can we do to spread some love?
I'm sorry if this came off the wrong way or like I'm scolding people. Or like I'm whinging like a needy child not getting enough attention. I'm curious and was wondering if it was worth asking someone else about. Thank you for reading! And thank you for responding if you do!
Hey! Thanks for all the compliments lol, that’s lovely of ya
I doubt i’ll be as succinct as you managed.
Overall, I agree. I don’t think you’re imagining things at all and I’ve certainly also noticed a decline in interest in my stuff since the start
This is a total theory, but I’m gonna put it forward cos it makes sense to me. When Good Omens started up everyone followed a load of people to get at the content and were reblogging and engaging all over the place. Spiderwebs of followers were formed. I think there are blogs who end up being more influential than others, it depends on what youre looking for in the fandom who that is for you, but there are always big sort of blogs that just reblog content to share it. I think they’re the things that change.
Cos what happens is interest wanes. Fans move on and go somewhere else. If you’re following and relying on a blog to show you lots of new art and they’re just not doing it any more, then you’re sort of left just seeing the popular stuff that gets cyclically reblogged.
For example, i was following, with notifications on, a blog that reblogged every bit of poc good omens fan art they came across. total mixed bag of quality, but it was fantastic and picked up blogs that were completely unknown to me. The person running it got tired and moved on, so i don’t have access to that any more. It’s a lost thread in my little spiderweb of access that cuts me off from so much and it’s a real loss
Alternatively, and this is the trap i fall into, you follow creators. Like what you said! So, when I see a post i like very much i go straight to OP and (after checking they’re not a terf or aphobic) i follow. This means i get new content from the source rather than relying on someone elses taste to have a chance of seeing it myself. However, it also means i’m not following many blogs that focus on reblogging a range of content, so i miss newcomers. I’m not ignoring newcomers, i simply don’t see them
Both approaches to who you follow come with the curse of as the fandom gets older, you don’t have a clear way to find new content or creators. There’s an early bird gets the worm element to it all
There’s also tumblr weird bad habit of not reblogging things. People who run personal blogs rather than themed blogs will like something and consider their work done, but that does nothing to help new art or new artists, cos it’s not permeated yet. That kills new content and content creators pretty thoroughly
So yeah, i think there’s a lot going on there, but you’re certainly not making it up and a lack of engagement on your posts isnt an indication that people don’t like it, it just means people haven’t seen it or have fallen for their habit of not reblogging things they really ought to share.
In terms of fixing this? That’s a toughie.
I don’t have a fix, but i agree the lethargy is tiresome. It’s a constant effort to get something to take off, i have to reblog stuff four or five times before it starts moving beyond my immediate sphere of influence. But it makes sense, there are less fans and the fans there are aren’t out looking for new people to follow.
but i don’t like ending on a negative, so i’ll talk about some options or ideas! even though i don’t have the kind of influence someone would need to be heard
In my perfect world (and i repeat this is my day dream, i do not pretend it is well thought out or fair for all) i would remove the like function; either reblog it or you don’t get to keep an access. I would see more blogs that reblog content to a theme. I would see blogs that search out new creators. I would see newsletters that name new creator blogs that have engaged recently. I would see blogs that make it a challenge to themselves to reblog art and fic that has less than 100 notes. I would see more low stress fan events, more prompt lists and less organised zines.
But that’s all a lot of work for individual people to take on (except the likes vs reblogs thing, but that a real personal dislike of mine). I’ve tried to take part, I run @goodomensevents which is a blog where i reblog any general community event on tumblr that doesn’t cost money to take part in. But i don’t really think it has much impact, cos i thought of it too late in the game and no one wants to follow new good omens blogs anymore.
which i understand. i’m happy with my dash, i don’t feel like it’s lacking. I love who i follow. my mutuals talk to me and aren’t cunts. And i have no idea how to find new creators even though i may want to.
But hey, if anyone’s running a blog like what i’ve described, please send me a link! Maybe i’ll make a rec list on good omens events lol, see what happens. I’ll definitely follow you
