goh starter trio meta perhaps? i was ensnared by the goh-scorbunny parallel subpoint in the cubone meta bc i'm making myself unwell thinking about how scorbunny latching on to goh and goh latching on to ash.... but also more generally, sobble's whole thing and the absolute tearjerker drizzile evolution episode, and goh's weird ass dream about his rillaboom parents and then waking up to baby grookey clinging to his arm, you get it, i know you're galaxy brained about this

YESSS I AM *SO* GLAD YOU ASKED!!

so my tl;dr here is that all of the galar starters represent something about goh specifically relating to his childhood. their growth and eventual evolution (or lack thereof!) therefore serve to highlight his character development (as an aside, i think this is a very common theme in anipoke. ash's pikachu not evolving speaks to the fact that ash's growth isn't about becoming someone new but about staying true to himself and embracing a battle style that reflects the creative ingenuity that, in the early os, other characters mocked him for. similarly, dawn's piplup chooses not to evolve because it doesn't want to change how things are between them. does this not seem fitting for the partner of someone like dawn, who has always admired her mother so much that she never even considering doing something other than following in her footsteps? i'm sure there are other examples, but these seem to me the most obvious ones!).

let's break down each one, then!

scorbunny

when we meet scorbunny, goh is still determined that mew will be his first pokemon. this is a point of stubbornness that, while impressive and arguably kind of admirable, is frankly kind of stupid. how is he supposed to get to mew without any pokemon to help him? there's an interesting implication in this resolution, which jn004 and jn005 really highlight for us - goh isn't comfortable with having a pokemon. he knows a lot about them, is interested in researching them, but as far as the bond between pokemon and trainer goes, i don't think he feels prepared for that. it's easier to pick a target that is far from reasonably attainable for him at this point, especially since he does have some history with mew - didn't it take an interest in him? didn't it give him a reason to chase after it?

so meeting scorbunny, he's obviously not thinking about catching it. but he lies to the guy at the scone stand, in an interesting parallel to how scorbunny steps in to protect the nickit. he doesn't even seem to know why he does it. but just before that scene, he sees scorbunny wipe some of the dirt off its face. he doesn't get the whole story and connect all the dots until after, but i think he realizes then that scorbunny is trying to hide itself in some way. that it's performing as something it's not. and on some unconscious level, that motivates him to lie for it. after, we get this whole exchange, where the scone seller tells ash and goh the story

and this note is what makes goh get up and approach scorbunny and the nickit:

it's very symbolic that he wipes the mud off scorbunny's face. and then later, he even points out when they see it again that it looks better without all the mud covering it up - it looks more like itself. it's not pretending to be something it's not. goh wiping the mud off its face is him saying that he accepts it as it is. that being resigned to living a certain way just to fit in or just because that's how it's always been is pointless.

and i mean...even ash says in this scene that the things goh is saying are things he's only recently learned himself, right? goh denies it (and tbh when he says that he's always thought the world is big and anyone can explore it if they want to or whatever - i don't think that's untrue! i think it's just that, prior to meeting ash, he didn't have it in him to explore it), but ash has a point. and what goh is doing for scorbunny here is the same thing that ash did for him.

relatedly, scorbunny follows him, right? in the same way that goh "accepts" ash as his friend, scorbunny chooses goh as its trainer. goh recognizes that it travelled far for him, that it saw a vision of its future with him, and changes his mind about not catching it. i think the determination he saw in scorbunny to chase after its dreams resounded with him, because he's only just started doing the same thing. and his entire character is built around this idea of like, learning how to adapt and how to let other people help you find the courage to chase your dreams (and even to help you chase them). how could he possibly deny scorbunny the same thing?

but while scorbunny's enthusiasm helps motivate goh to chase his dreams, he is very flippant and dismissive, as we see when it learns ember and he says it doesn't matter, that scorbunny doesn't need to know a fire-type move and this gut-punch of a line, of course:

goh is someone who needs a lot of convincing to do things he doesn't think he'll be good at (or enjoy). he only joins project mew because gary goads him into it. he spends most of his life refusing to make friends, because he had one bad experience. he's a fairly black-and-white thinker, which makes sense considering his background. he doesn't really believe in change. he especially doesn't believe that people (or pokemon, in this case) can change their circumstances just through hard work and determination. as we see in jn003 with the ivysaur, he also doesn't think that it's anyone else's place to intervene and "help" others. if you can't change something, then don't. and there's no point in hoping it'll change on its own, either.

when scorbunny storms off here, his expression is interesting. this isn't the expression of someone being judgemental. it's the expression of someone who sympathizes.

he sees scorbunny trying so hard to do something he thinks it can't do and thinks that scorbunny's determination to change things is, if i had to guess, kind of immature. a lesson scorbunny will have to learn, whether it wants to or not. at first it's kind of endearing, but then he actually gets frustrated, because he feels like scorbunny's determination to learn ember is harmful to them both. here, there's a degree of "why won't you just trust that i know what's best for you?" for sure, but on a deeper level, i think that stems from a place of "can't you see that i'm just trying to protect you?"

...but obviously, all he really does is wind up lashing out and hurting scorbunny's feelings. he tells ash that he was trying to draw out scorbunny's strengths (and he was, by telling it to use moves it was already good at!), but ash points out that their values weren't aligned and that's kind of the opposite of strength when it comes to pokemon battling. so he reassesses the situation and finds a way to bring out scorbunny's strength that also aligns with what scorbunny wants. that compromise is what makes scorbunny evolve. it was the right call! but then raboot starts ignoring him.

and this is like. a running gag with scorbunny - goh gets distracted by other things and doesn't notice that it's trying to show him things. it happens when they meet and it happens again in this episode with its ember. we see something very similar with goh and his parents in jn032 when he's excited at the prospect of their vacation together, but when he tries to ask what they want to do, he turns around and find they're both asleep (and we see the flashback of something similar happening last time, too).

with raboot, in a lot of ways, goh is grappling with...himself. or at least, the person he was before he met ash - cold and distant, more interested in doing whatever he thinks is worth his time than in school, for example. so if goh saw his child self in scorbunny, he sees his more "adolescent" (i mean. he's still ten so still child, technically. but older child lol) self in raboot. and he actually responds to this in a way that's a lot like how we see his parents responding to him. in jn022, we see him

buy a bunch of apples for raboot, even though he thinks it doesn't need them (and is hurt when it doesn't let him have one, despite raboot seeming pleased that he bought them for it). compare to the device he shows horace in jn032, for example, which he says his parents built for him. or his six computer monitors. his parents reach him best through material means!

question why raboot hates him when it's not responsive to his overtures. contrarily, goh's parents don't think he hates them; they just automatically assume the worst case scenario (like in jn015 when he calls and they immediately wonder if he did something and got kicked out of the institute). but while that's their worst case scenario about him, raboot hating him is kind of goh's worst case scenario, right? it took him time to open up and accept scorbunny as his partner. now that it's evolved and is acting differently, he's terrified that he came to care for it only for it to leave him.

which leads to my last point here, which is that he doesn't actually ask what it wants. in this episode, he concludes that raboot would be happier without him. so he leaves it behind, but he never actually considers how it might feel. goh's parents do the same thing! they worry about him, but they don't share their concerns or ask how he feels. they just assume that he must feel a certain way and they adapt to compensate for that. but they never actually ask him what he wants.

this episode ends with him realizing that he hasn't been reacting to raboot's feelings so much as to his own, of course, and we see their relationship smooth out quite a bit. he's acknowledging that he's done things wrong, but also that it's not all his fault - and raboot's change in temperment is just a consequence of it evolving. they accept each other again and move on.

then, it evolves into cinderace and kind of opens up again more (though it's been doing that little-by-little since jn022). i think the fact that raboot and riolu evolve at the same time was a really cool move by the writers to kind of demonstrate how like...the relationship between ash and goh is reflected in the growth of their pokemon. they trained together! in a way they kind of grew up together! riolu, ash's token baby pokemon in jn, evolving at the same time as goh's starter feels like a very deliberate choice to highlight how ash helped goh's pokemon grow, too - through getting the ball rolling with how he helped goh grow as a person and a trainer. if that makes sense?

anyway, i don't have much to say about cinderace, other than that if he saw himself as a child in scorbunny and as an older child in raboot, then cinderace's level of openness and its enthusiasm aren't just reflexive of it getting back more of its scorbunny-esque personality - it also shows how goh has changed and has learned to embrace these parts of himself, now that he's in that "coming of age" age (well, for pokemon. he is still only ten lmao).

i think we see something similar with his other starters, though maybe a little less on the nose.

sobble

the drizzile episode, as you mentioned, is probably Thing here. but i think the theme with sobble is sort of that, where scorbunny maybe reflects more of the way goh thought about growing up and his aspirations (and how hard it was to open up to people), sobble more so mirrors his social experiences at school and with chloe.

VISUALLY, i think it's really telling that when goh catches sobble, he's...literally speaking to it from the other side of the water:

this whole episode (jn028) is about goh kind of...forcing sobble into positions it's not necessarily comfortable with, and not realizing that it's uncomfortable until it runs away from him. as we saw with raboot, this is a common theme with goh - but it's most obvious with sobble!

he realizes, of course, and says this:

even in flashbacks, goh never comes across as a shy kid. he doesn't exactly relate to sobble, but i think he's drawing a parallel here between them. he wasn't shy, but he was always on the "outside" - that's why he's so good at researching. he strives to see things as they are without getting involved. eventually, this is something that will make him a pretty thoughtful and strategic battler, though at this point he's still learning how to apply that to more than just research for the sake of research.

and then after sobble meets inteleon, we have these bits too:

goh's childhood motivations on the surface appear to be like...he doesn't want to bother with friends, because they aren't going to be able to serve a purpose for him. he isn't interested in making friends with anyone who is less into pokemon than he is. but after what happens with horace, it seems to get a little more complex, and then we have to wonder if his motivations really were that surface-level to begin with, or if, maybe, his policy of not making friends has always been a way for him to protect himself from betrayals like he experienced with horace.

we see chloe as early as jn001 trying to convince him to make friends, to no success. she doesn't even refer to herself as his friend - he doesn't seem to be willing to let her. he believes he doesn't need friends and is better off alone. but he doesn't realize until after meeting ash that his solitude is more of a self-imposed exile, in that it's hurting him more than other people. he can't improve as a person and reach his goals if he's too busy trying to protect himself to accept that he needs help from other people to do those things. so, again - i think he sees that side of himself in sobble. so it feels very impactful that he reaches out to help sobble become a better battler, but rather than forcing it to battle in a way that makes sense to him, he comes up with a way to have it train that plays off of its strengths of running and hiding.

and then, of course, there's the episode where sobble evolves, jn062. the writers themselves do most of the work here of drawing the parallel between goh's childhood and how drizzile is feeling, but i think it goes even deeper than that. drizzile is unhappy because it wanted to evolve into inteleon, not into drizzile. it's not comfortable in its own skin. and it doesn't necessarily want others to see it, because it feels like it's still growing and it's not ready yet. it kind of just...needs time to sulk and brood. drizzile runs away again, because it's not ready, and while they're looking for it, it's chloe who makes goh start thinking about when he was a kid, by saying this:

which prompts him to think about how he was searching for a "reason" for why drizzile was acting how it was, just like how adults used to demand reasons from him even when he didn't have them. and then of course we get this scene:

but i think he does on some level know why, because he talks immediately after this about how his parents weren't home and often felt lonely. he's more comfortable being alone. he's protecting himself. which is reinforced by the fact that he then tells drizzile this:

goh has a hard time putting his feelings into words, which is something we see throughout jn. he sees that drizzile is the same and this is a huge moment for him, because he's saying here that it doesn't matter what inspired its feelings; he understands it is experiencing those feelings and that's enough. he'll wait until it's ready to fully process them or whatever else it needs. drizzile kind of returns the favour when he starts crying here and it reaches up to brush away his tears, then disappears again.

overall, this episode does an amazing job of showing us how goh has become someone who actually acknowledges his and his pokemon's feelings - this is the only time we see him as a child where he's not doing something to try to ignore his feelings, or trying to walk away from them. in flashbacks, his back is often to his parents. in jn032, he gets upset, and then tries to cover his disappointment up immediately with anger and avoidance. the writers set this scene up so that we can see the reason behind his feelings clearly (just like we can see the reason behind drizzile's, even though goh and co. can't), but they rightly emphasize that goh's ability to analyze "why" he or his pokemon are feeling a certain way isn't always helpful. emotions are meant to be felt, not intellectualized. it's a good message, and a huge area of growth!

drizzile's evolution into inteleon also shows us how this acceptance translates into it eventually being comfortable enough to be who it wants to be. and the characters are impressed by it - it even earns kecleon's admiration, the same way that other inteleon earned its when it was a sobble. this is a pretty clear mirror with goh's social life, where he went from being this friendless outcast figure to someone with a lot of friends, and a great willingness to make more, as he became more comfortable and confident and willing to reach out to others.

and lastly,

grookey

the only one of the three that doesn't evolve, for reasons that aren't ever really made clear to us. but i think that as random (...and tone deaf) as his dream sequence at the start of grookey's debut episode is, it actually makes a lot of sense. in the original, the dream has camille and walker transformed into rillaboom, and goh is understandably freaked out. but i think the bigger, more symbolic thing is that even if it is a dream, his parents are the ones that foist grookey upon him. this does seem like a really weird choice, until you start thinking about the parallels, right?

in reality, grookey is team rocket's pokemon. the episode title "when a house is not a home" tells us that grookey obviously doesn't feel like it "belongs" there. but the episode doesn't open in team rocket's base. it opens in goh's apartment. and the part i didn't show in the drizzile scene above is when he says this:

the fact that goh was home alone a lot as a kid gets brought up fairly often. it implies that he kind of had to adopt this lone wolf persona, because there was no one else around to take care of him. he had to learn how to console himself and meet his own needs (hence why he's so combative about ash intervening with the ivysaur in jn003!), which is a lot of responsibility for a kid. grookey is handed to him like it's a responsibility in his dream, but then they bond. and he starts to appreciate having grookey around, to the point that he misses it when it returns to team rocket.

to me, the choice to have grookey not evolve kind of comes down to grookey being kind of...emblematic of goh's childhood. like, in his dream, grookey is this burden that's forced on him. someone he has to take care of, even though he isn't really prepared to do that. in reality, grookey is escaping from an environment that doesn't meet its needs. putting those two things together, i mean...that's just my reading of it, anyway. so grookey not evolving, and goh accepting grookey as it is - without any of the "growing up" analogs we have with cinderace and inteleon - is a way of showing that goh has come to terms with his childhood and that he accepts (and cherishes!) his childhood self. which he can only really do after he's done all the growing we see reflected in the evolutions of his other starter mons. (relatedly, grookey is the only starter of goh's who goh considers leaving with other mons in its evolution line. specifically, with two thwackey and their child, i.e. a family unit not unlike goh's!)

Pizza Tower Headcanons: Sleep

I've been sorting out my sleeping patterns lately, so here's how I imagine the cast are while sleeping

Peppino

Definitely the most cartoonish snorer. Snorts like a wild hog and then lets out the highest "mimimi" when exhaling. All for the best, really, since he can easily be spooked into insomnia.

Gustavo

He absolutely talks in his sleep. It can be funny listening to his sleepy nonsense. When out camping with the others, they heard him mumble some pretty silly things and had to hold in their laughter. Helps that he's a VERY heavy sleeper. Seriously, good luck waking him up.

Brick

Absolutely adorable. Likes to curl up next to Gustavo. Nobody wants to wake him.

Mr. Stick

Mumbles a lot. His bed is so uncomfortable that he legit prefers sleeping on the floor. Or in his chair, which he usually does, while drooling over his ideas for the fifth time thus week. Sometimes, he writes more while half-asleep and wakes up the next morning extremely confused.

Pepperman

Surprisingly, compared to his usual self, his sleep sounds are more of the "soft ASMR breathing" type. To the point people seriously want him to do ASMR. Too bad he's so huge that if one dares sleep next to him, they have to pray to God he doesn't turn over.

The Vigilante

A heavy snorer, but in an oddly calming way. It's not too loud and has such consistency it can actually put YOU to sleep if you listen long enough. Kind of like white noise. He doesn't sleep as much as he should, though. So it's kind of a shame. Also has a harder time sleeping on heavily rainy nights.

The Noise

Well, this guy lives up to his name. His snoring is so unbearably loud only his girlfriend can tolerate it. Speaking of which...

Noisette

She's surprisingly silent in her sleep. But that's the least of her boyfriend's problems. She tosses and turns like a feral animal and has accidentally hit The Noise in the face many times.

Fake Peppino

Well, uh... it sounds like he's... trying to emulate Peppino, but... the way he does it is so strange people legitimately can't describe what they just heard. Also, he sleepwalks. So that's a bonus for alarm.

Pizzahead

His snoring is also cartoonish but in a different way to Peppino's. He's the type to rapidly snore in the most stereotypical way people are legit surprised he's not pretending.

Maria

More ASMR breathing, but also a little bit of mumbling. She would never admit this to anyone but Vigi, but she likes to sleep with stuffed animals. Gets embarrassed when people bring up how adorable her sleeping habits are.

Clove

Has to cast a silencing spell on himself when sleeping because he has an awful habit of chanting incantations in his sleep. Almost burned the forest down once doing that. Can't sleep anywhere that isn't rocking, so he has a hammock.

Crevette

Completely silent. She had to train herself not to vocalise at all in her sleep so her vocal chords wouldn't get exhausted. Boy, does she pamper herself when sleeping, though. Eye mask, ASMR playlist, perfect temperature, etc.

Pizzawife

Another sleep-talker, but she tends to say some pretty disturbing things in her sleep, so it's nowhere near as endearing. Also, she once almost strangled Pizzahead hugging him in her sleep by accident, so that doesn't help.

Gustave OS (and Click)

He usually takes about 2 hours to recharge, so sleep isn't really something he does. Again, with Click, it's ambiguous if it's even alive, so...

Ok im back and sorry for the oc question but I’ve been thinking about this for awhile…Another of my vessel group is Albus, His whole Character Arc is trying to find the pale king and the white lady (he misses his family and didn’t understand the whole ditching in the Abyss thing) I wrote my Ocs in the context of the Embrace the void ending, So in the end the other siblings in the group help Albus find the white lady, And then he kinda just….sits there…Because Albus doesn’t understand parental love, He thinks parental love is siting in their general vicinity, So he just kinda sits next to white lady,Unless his siblings come back to check on him, Then he gets up for a minute to spend time with them, Os how would fpk react to this random vessel just…Showing up and start siting in his general vicinity? Like honestly I want to know

I think it would be very awkward to him. He's still haunted by the guilt of what he did, so in his mind all the vessels have every right in the world to hate him. Holly was, in his mind, just an exception, one he was able to rationalize - he hurt them by sacrificing them for nothing, but unlike the other vessels, they did experience some of his affection and care. Of course it wasn't enough for a child, but it was enough for them to get attached to him and crave more, so even though he felt like he didn't deserve their kind welcome after all those years, it at least made some sense to him.

But with a vessel that hasn't experienced anything but the cruel difficulty of climbing out of the Abyss? He would have no idea how to go about it. They had every reason to hate him, so why don't they?

That's not to say he would act distant towards them, he would without a doubt show them kindness, they are his child after all and they deserve affection. He wasn't able to show it to them back then so he has an obligation to do it now. Though he wouldn't do it just because it's right and what he's supposed to do, he does see them as his child, and he is very affectionate towards his offspring. I fully believe that if the vessels were never meant to be mindless void beings, and instead were born in normal circumstances, that he would love them as dearly as he loved hornet. His error was incorrectly assuming that they didn't think or feel, which unfortunately ended in the death of many sentient beings. He may have not killed them directly and intentionally, but their suffering was his fault, and he'll never forgive himself for that.

But to get back on point. It would be awkward for him, sure, but he would reach his hand towards them to show them affection. He wouldn't just ignore them and treat them like a background prop, the way this AU's White Lady would - she never felt the same inherent affection for the children as he did, unfortunately. And while she does feel guilt about her part in the act, she doesn't see them the same way FPK does. Though I doubt she would be very affectionate towards a legitimate child either. She's very cold and distant, affection isn't something she prioritizes, and that often makes her seem quite self-absorbed. She always says she loved FPK, and in her own way she did, but she rarely showed him actual affection, even in intimate situations she was more occupied by her own needs than his feelings. I jokingly say that he was her trophy husband but that's not even far from the truth. To their subjects, he was the king and she was his queen, but in reality their dynamic was far closer to the opposite, where she called the shots and he danced to her requests. Perhaps to a being similar to her that relationship would be perfectly healthy, but FPK is a very emotional being so he ended up hurting throughout the entire marriage. But to bring this closer to the point, I don't see her being a loving mother, that kind of close emotional bond a child would need isn't in her nature. Which is why she never planned to have any actual children in the first place, and why she wouldn't treat this vessel any different. She would try to be nice to them and invite them to her garden mansion, but that's about as far as it would go. They would be treated as a guest, not like her offspring.

But enough of the WL tangent, what would FPK do exactly the moment the vessel showed up? Well, he would invite them inside first, give them something to eat, and then perhaps show them what he's working on in the workshop. He wouldn't immediately grab them and give them a hug, since he still feels like he doesn't deserve that after hurting them. The difference between this situation and his reunion with Holly was that Holly made the first step, they were actively seeking his love so it was easier for him to give it to them. But here? If they're just sitting there, he wouldn't know what extent of affection would be appropriate. What if he tries to hug them and they think he wants to hurt them? If they never experienced any love, that would be understandable, and the last thing he'd want to do is to scare them. But if he saw that they were comfortable with it, then he would show them affection more directly.

So in short. He would try to show them love, but it would be a slower process than normal since he'd have to stop and examine their reaction to every step he takes, to make sure they're comfortable. But he would try his best to make them feel loved and cared for, that's for sure.

[Suicidal Saitama]

Saitama + Genos | One-Punch Man cw: suicide attempts + suicidal theme 13-02-2023

Ngl now this makes me wanna read a story where we follow Genos as he stalks Saitama (as he does), only to find odd behaviours and accidents that should have been easily avoided by the man.

Like, a story where the lack of any opponents that match him, the boredom, and the feeling of being unphased by most things just brings Saitama over the edge. What's the point of going on like this?

So he attempts more than once, but whatever he does isn't working.

But why should he be surprised? He went to the moon and back without dying even if he didn't have a space suite.

But still, he tries and nothing ever works.

And the more he tries, the more he feels some sort of emptiness inside at being unable to die in any way.

The worse he feels about it.

And poor Genos who doesn't know that, who simply feels like Saitama has been acting weird lately and missed any very obvious attempts the man made himself (but of course he'd try to do it somewhere quiet, die somewhere harder to find).

But one day seems worse, Saitama is even more odd than usual. He puts on his hero suit and goes out, waving Genos off when he asks to come with him. ("I'm only going out for a patrol, it still looks quiet, stay home and rest").

And somehow, Genos cannot help having a feeling of unease creeping up inside him, something screaming to him that he should follow Saitama.

So he does.

Tailing him is easy enough, seeing how Saitama isn't the most hyper-vigilant about his surroundings, relying on instinct and reflexes (although those seem to have been a little bit bad lately....).

He quickly realises that Saitama is getting out of city Z, then the next and the next, not looking like a man in patrol. He looks like he had a destination in mind though.

And so Genos follows him until they arrive on the ground they trained together.

Saitama stops for a while, looking around without doing anything, which forces Ge os to hide, certain he has been found out.

Yet the hero doesn't say anything, doesn't move much either. He just looks around for a while, until he starts walking again, going deeper And deeper into the abandoned area, where they usually don't bother going to.

Saitama stops again after a while, looking around him once more, but this more as if trying to see if anyone was around.

Then he looks down at his hand, closing it into a tight fist.

And Genos wonder what his master is meaning to punch, seeing that he isn't the kind of person to just create craters for the fun of it. Nor does he feel any potential dangers around.

Then Saitama takes a stance, but it looks weird.... as if aiming for himself.

Genos only has time to get out of his hiding spot and scream for the man before the punch goes down. He was too late.

When he blinks again, all the trees and the side of the cliff have been blown away.

Saitama is laying on the ground.

Genos quickly ran to Saitama, panic running through his him.

Relief washed over him when he saw the man blink once, then again as his gaze met his.

The seemingly only aftermath of the punch was Saitama's nose bleeding.

But what hit Genos the most was the pained expression the man had. Not because of the pain, but another type of pain, something deeper than physical, something he had never seen before.

I feel like Saitama wouldn't be the kind of person to easily open up about all of this and Genos would not push him to say.

But Genos will from now on follow him everywhere when he can, not leaving Saitama out of his sight.

This had to be one of the most frightening things he had lived in a while and the idea of his master disappearing one day to die in the middle of nowhere was even more frightening.

I love genosai so much, I feel like I'd like to add some if I ever write it, maybe for an aftermath of the story where The Attempt awoken something, or rather made some feeling more clear

Okay this os a long one, but the first time I read about David was on TLND ( I miss fetus Mavid) and then I read LBAF and then you started writing adult David and suddenly the character I had in my head kinda shifted and since then I've been curious: Would David be attracted and fall in love with someone who isn't Max but is similar to him like Magnus would (although Max like Alec always be someone special that no one can compare to) or would he not, like Max wouldn't fall in love with anyone who isn't David (at least I think he wouldn't). I mean, you have mentioned a lot of times that David craves love (like Magnus), but in TLND, he was waiting for Max and didn't date anyone else. Was it because he had already met him and therefore knew that nobody else was it for him? So like, in Never Settle, he didn't know him, so he kept searching for love?

I kept trying to figure out why Other Max being the first Max to time travel is kinda scary and then I finally pinned it down: If he wasn't the first, that meant that everything he has done has been done before and everyone survived and no great evil took place. But if he is the first one, then we have no idea how everything he's doing will affect the people around him, what kind of consequences his actions will have. First off all, if he's the first one how did they ley lines get fixed in Other Max's timeline? How did Mallory die in his timeline? How did Victoria get pregnant? Also, him being the first means another very scary thing. That him and Max don't go through the same things, so there's no guarantee that Max will grow up to be Other Max, because his David has all his memories but his David also dates someone that makes Max insecure about himself and he feels jelous, something he hasn't felt for David, ever. So that has to have some impact on him, shape him in a different way, right? I mean did David in this timeline cry for 11 days when Lance was born or not because Other Max reassured him that he'll be okay? Is his behaviour and the fact that he doesn't get angry because of Other Max or did Other David react like this too? When I tell you that is the scariest plot you've ever written I mean it, and I love it I can't wait to see how everything will play out

Speaking of Other Max the "I need someone older" trend fitting David kinda scares me too, because it kinda suggests that Other Max is what David needs, more than Max himself which is gonna hurt a lot and especially if David voices that to Max, I fear his insecurities will get the best of him. Or you meant it to be funny and I'm here freaking out over nothing, look what you've done to us😂

Are there no demons in New York because they smell David's and Lance's demon blood and therefore see no shadowhunter or no threat? Is it because of Other Max protecting them or even because of Lucifer? Do I really believe you'll answer? No because, spoilers, but I wanted to ask regardless

One thing I desperately hold on to is that Rafael and Max hugged and they joined the party at the LBAF IV epilogue, so whatever happened they find their way around it, the amount of comfort this thought gives me, I can't even describe. Because Max loves his family more than anything and he likes parties and now that he can't have it it must hurt a lot

I need to hear the conversation between Malec about whatever is happening since they dreamed about Rosewood/Mavid living close to each other and now they can't even visit each other, I mean the scenes with those four together have always been my favourites and seeing them now hurts a lot too and oh, sweet sweet angst

Last angsty thought: Is Mavid living away from everyone in France in every reality a canon event because they were exiled from Idris? Like they never have a big wedding because they're not allowed in LBAF?

Okay, that was every angsty thought I've had. Now, there are only fluffy things in my notes and I prefer it that way so I'll share them later! I would like to mention once again that reading your fics is the only time I'm excited to feel pain, your power is truly unmatched🌷

FETUS MAVID OMG. Love it. I think David has a person is always searching for love. I never have and never will write him as someone who is 'looking for the perfect guy/max'. In some fics, Max is his first love and not in others. He will definitely date others before meeting max because he loves to give himself that chance to find that person. we do see that he has a type - which is basically max lol. but yes after he meets max, it's pretty much game over for him.

I'm very impressed by your observations and i wish i could tell you if you are right or not. i can't answer your questions either but i can tell you four things 1) all your questions will definitely be answered but you need to keep looking for them 2) mallory dies old and alone and waiting for max (in other max's timeline) 3) it was never said david cried for 11 days when lance was born. we don't actually know what other max was talking about there 4) i can confirm that it is the scariest plot line yes

Not to tip my hat about how I'm a weirdo and I have a weakness for fictional codependency, but god help me I really am thinking about an AU with Ben/Sapient Omnitrix right now huh.

With the Omnitrix sort of becoming an OC in a way, because how this works is

Azmuth programmed it with an AI who is initially just a generically helpful blank slate with pre-programmed knowledge, but adapts to its user, developing alongside them to, in theory, work with them as well as possible.

Azmuth just never knew that maybe this feature would, uh...

Work a bit too well, in some ways.

So, the Omnitrix, within a few weeks of being bonded to Ben, also comes to define itself as a "young boy", and quickly learns English, but can only "speak" in Ben's head.

He prefers to go by "Trix" now, although he also lets Ben call him "Trixie" as a joke (that ascends to genuine cutesy term of endearment)

Besides an inbuilt onboard library of knowledge specific to his own function, Trix is ironically not much "smarter" than Ben. His neural network is still developing. Plus, a lot of what he can do as the Omnitrix is the AI equivalent of "subconscious", because Azmuth found that Trix's prototypes became overwhelmed, unstable, and often overly detached and nihilistic if they had full conscious insight into what they do, and how they do it.

In a similar vein and further bid for stability, much of Trix's factual knowledge is sort of "one step removed" from his core memory, instead archived in a way where it's like "looking it up" rather than "directly knowing it".

This makes him more capable of messing up, especially because Azmuth realized it's actually important to let him be personally capable of both positive and negative emotion, as it ultimately led to a more empathetic and adaptive AI.

(And again, trying to program a fearless and infallible prototype Trix resulted in strange and unanticipated issues over time.)

Ben can also share his senses with Trix, and memories if he wants to, in this way allowing Trix a way to both further connect to him and understand the world around them.

(This also leads to various scenes of Ben voluntarily doing weird and/or dumb things just so Trix can know what it's like)

Trix's personality as a "kid" would come to be as follows:

-Extremely curious

-Oddly enough, also quite anxious, which seems to be a much tamer expression of the sorts of severe neurosis that the prototypes could develop. (I also think the mental image of Ben trying to comfort his watch is weirdly cute in a funny and awkward kinda way)

- Naturally kind of clingy

- Easily bored, but also easily entertained by anything novel.

- A bit of the jealous and possessive type

- Somewhat insecure, sensitive, and awkward at times

- Protective, and a bit overbearing

- Terrible handling of humor and sarcasm, doesn't quite seem to "grasp" it yet.

- If not reciting a knowledge archive, tends to be stilted and awkward with his words. He still prefers nonverbal thoughts, sensations, and images.

-By nature, a people-pleaser. Not just to Ben, but also tends to want to help everyone, and quickly becomes dejected if he feels unhelpful.

- Very earnest and sincere, surprisingly gullible.

In the OS, they are largely just like, super best friends, although it becomes increasingly obvious that Trix is into Ben. (And doesn't realize, in part because he is not *directly* supposed to be able to romantically love, it's just that he is able to develop in such a way as to become capable of it, as a side-effect of the sort of open-ended mental flexibility required of him.) And then like. post-OS, Ben now takes Trix off largely because he starts feeling weird about Trix lacking full autonomy, and wants Trix to be properly able to be his own person (and has Azmuth give Trix the ability to "wear himself" by forming a hard-light projection) Trix sees where Ben is coming from and agrees to this, but as he isn't human, only somewhat mentally modeled off of a human, he lowkey never actually comes to prefer being independent over being a watch, particularly *Ben's watch*, and his Space Adventures (I'm kind of imagining he's kept with a trusted entourage on a ship that never stays in one place for long, to reduce risks of Trix getting hunted down) are fun and all, but Trix eventually realizes he loves Ben, caves to his longing, and runs away to go back to Earth. (Accidentally attracting unwanted attention that is now what kicks off Alien Force in the process)

This unwanted attention DOES give Trix the perfect excuse to attach to Ben again, which Ben is a little reluctant about while Trix is just ecstatic. They compromise with Trix being able to project his avatar while Ben wears him, but only up to a certain distance away from Ben. Which makes Ben feel a little better, but he still can't quite understand how Trix is so content for things to be like this forever. And then Trix ""dies"" right before Ultimate Alien, and Ben goes through a whole edgy depression arc where he can't fucking STAND the Ultimatrix (who is also sapient, but largely indifferent to him because it houses an older AI, one of the ones who's *overly* intelligent and self-aware, overly conscious of just how powerful it is, and as a result, is unable to view life as anything 'special' at all. Leading to a rather alien, much more detached, despondent, amoral, and low-empathy mindset as a result.) Trix is eventually brought back, and now Ben's trauma has left him 100% in agreement with the clingy "stay with me forever and NEVER leave in any way" mindset.

ooh, I'm curious about Edinburgh Epic! 👀

So Edinburgh Epic is actually a strange thing, and I could talk about it forever. It is basically an idea that I used for one of my roleplays, which is now discontinued, but the whole premise is just too good to pass on, and I really hope I can turn it into a fic one day using my writing from it. The scary thing is, it can be nothing but a multichapter, possibly a very very long one at that, and I'm not very brave when it comes to longfic. It's sort of a band AU but not really at all. It takes place in Edinburgh, that's why Edinburgh Epic. Sirius trying to patch things up with the rest of the Marauders after he disappeared for five years after their graduation. He suddenly appears at their uni reunion and well, shit goes down. The reason for his disappearance silly as it can only get; he thinks Remus and James are in love (which isn't true, but it's still complicated). But of course, he's been pining for so long. And maybe Remus has been pining too, but god, they are oblivious. Sirius is not a very good person in this premise, but I love the idea of him as a very flawed being very much. It makes me want to write the fic all the more. There is a whole extensive lore for this that came around while the roleplay was going on, and much of it can't be used because the ideas are not all mine, but I'm hopeful I can rework it.

There he is. He is! This isn't a joke, but that's no surprise. Sirius could never doubt Remus after all; the other has never given him any reason to. Unlike Sirius, who's been giving them to everyone around him. His brows knit in an unconscious pained look, not because of his injuries, but because of the way Remus is looking at him. Sirius doesn't know what to do with himself. It is bright enough with all the city night lights, not like back in the quad with Reg, but Sirius now wishes it was the other way around. It's hard to look into the face of things he has done. Into Remus' face where it is all being reflected, the black eye that he's given him by an accident a burning testimony. Sirius wants to reach out, let his fingers apologise for him. Well, that privilege he lost years ago. Hi, I'm another person having issues with story progression. I just got the assertiveness update triggered, but the dialogue never... Went through fully? He reset himself (the reset that's supposed to happen, for clarification) an error popped up (which occurred to me w/the other story triggers, so I took it as just my PC being weird), and... No follow-up dialogue. The progression actually never happened b/c he still had the previous dialogue. I'm sorry if this isn't.. coherent or helpful ;;

I'm afraid what you've described really isn't helpful. Can you recall what the error message said at all? What is the piece of dialogue he's saying before you click through and the bug occurs? After the error occurs, what kind of dialogue is he saying now? What about what OS you're running on (though I have to assume it's windows, because SSP doesn't work with anything else unless you're using WINE)? What version of SSP are you using to run him? Without as much information as you can provide, there's not really much I can do to try and replicate the bug and figure out what's causing it.

With that said, if it didn't go through/ there was no followup dialogue, then it means the flag to change modes wasn't set so the dialogue for exiting his update mode should trigger again in due time. If it happens again during this process please try to make note of the things above so I can have an idea of what I need to look at and where at.

Honestly, the best part of this prompt is just that Kronos could unironically meet baby Edward if fae ever managed to take faers technology further.

Edward, like most Batman characters, had an… Interesting childhood. I always imagine he was a really quiet kid, swallowing loud and dramatic behavior for his own survival. So it'd be a really stark contrast to see him making himself small. It'd probably remind Kronos a lot of faerself.

I imagine fae would just try to give him a good day to remember in the future (even if that might be weird since they're also on again/off again dating. Not in a bad way, they just keep forgetting to actually make it official, and then Strange happened, and he's not keen on sharing, and--) Take him out for ice cream or something else. Kronos isn't exactly good with kids, but fae would try.

He'd probably start infodumping about stuff he likes, and even if it's the most boring shit on Earth to faer: fae is at least going to pretend to listen. Eddie needs this. Kronos isn't going to make faerself yet another adult who persecuted him over this shit.

Maybe fae'd give him a little pocket watch "to remember me by." It has single charges of faers temporary time stopping. Crane isn't RELIGIOUS persay. I like Crane's who grew up religious, who knew the fear of god before they knew the fear they loved to inflict. I think even as a kid though, he didn't internalize all of it. Some of it stuck around in adulthood though, the parts he did actually buy into.

It mostly results in him being superstitious. The specific flavor of religion was Catholic. He's not a "masturbating makes you go blind," Catholic, but he is a "gets 666 coincidentally on something and immediately tries to get out of whatever it was for" kind of superstitious.

I don't have a lot to say about this one, despite my reblogging blasphemy and priest kink shit earlier. I have religious trauma and fetishes, not like. Religion www.

Once they're properly established and used to each other? It honestly feels like they both have each other on leashes, to be honest. I think from the outside it just looks like Strange is reeling in Kronos. In actuality, fae is also reeling him in too.

Kronos is a little, overconfident gremlin of a man. Strange would lobotomize someone for sillies if left alone. He's just way fucking smarter about it. Kronos is a jealous patient though, which is usually the reeling in part. "What do you MEAN you aren't committing attrocious experiments on me specifically?"

Kronos does need to be reeled in too though. Fae would be recklessly villainous if not for Strange. I mean like Powerpuff Girls level nonsense. Kronos is gonna get faerself tossed in Arkham, and while Strange wouldn't be 100% against the control over faer that would give him, he doesn't want to make an enemy of himself in faers eyes on accident! So he basically works as faers villain manager.

So yeah, they are like. Two over excited cats on leashes, but they're holding the leashes.

Honestly? If fae had a terrible no-good day? It'd be very easy to just lavish faer in luxuries.

Kronos is a buyable man, but also a cheap man. Bruce is aware of this. The rich playboy thing comes in handy taking faer out on the town too! Oh? Everything is going wrong? Well there's some gormet burger place down in west Gotham!

Though again: Kronos is a cheap man. Bruce probably wouldn't be caught dead in a McDonalds otherwise, but fae wanted it. It's all food and bathbombs, forcing in him with faer. It's a kind of control over the day he can extend without furthering any anxiety fae may be suffering from. Kronos hates being asked "what do you want" when fae's anxious and awful--the anxiety just gives faer a freeze response. So he takes the lead of "let's get food" and waits for faer to go "burgers? Burgers please?"

It's a little bit of baby steps, but he's alright with doing it. If a day was that awful, there's no need to make it worse.

If they had kids would Carla and Shin be good parents?

Trigger warning for some reference to child abuse (partly because I'll be bringing up Carla's backstory).

Short answer: It depends on the circumstances.

I think they both have the capacity to be at least halfway decent parents but it would depend on them having someone (probably their respective S/Os) knock some of their edges off first.

If we're talking about a scenario in which they've fulfilled their goal of carrying on the founder race without forming any sort of attachments to someone beforehand, then that's when you'd see some problems.

One thing with Carla is that at the start of Dark Fate, he's struggling to balance his own emotions with the feelings of duty he has as Giesbach's son and the current Founder King—which is to say his emotions are trampled on and ignored over whatever he perceives his duty as king to be. If someone hasn't broken through the ice shell he surrounds himself with before he has children, then he's going to be a very strict parent, and while he would have some affection for his children, they probably wouldn't ever realise it until he told them so while on his deathbed.

You can get an idea of what it might look like if you examine Carla's interactions with Shin in early material. We know Carla cares about Shin but he never expresses it in a way that Shin realises it. We know from Carla's DF route that each future king of the founders was strictly trained by the previous king (or at least that's certainly what Carla believes) so my big worry is that he'd feel he had to do the same thing. I'm not sure he would ever be quite as bad as Giesbach was to him (we know from LP that he doesn't like the sound of children crying because it reminds him of the founder children crying as their parents died of Endzeit) but I can definitely see him going down that sort of path without someone to make him see sense beforehand (he certainly wouldn't enjoy it but those feelings would get shoved to the back of the emotion cupboard and kept solidly under lock and key).

If someone has managed to prize open the door to Carla's heart, then I doubt any of the above would come up as an issue. He'd definitely need someone to help him with basics as I cannot foresee Carla "I can't make a sandwich" Tsukinami (his CL route) really knowing how to take care of an infant or young child. He'd make sure his children got a good education and in terms of worldly goods, I'm fairly certain he'd let them have whatever their hearts desired (while Shin cries because he's the one trying to manage the budget). I still don't think he'd put up with any rampant disobedience but he'd be nowhere as harsh as he might have been.

As for Shin... If we again consider a scenario where he's somehow raising a child without having dealt with any of his own issues then I don't think he'd be great. To be honest though, I still don't he'd be anywhere near as bad as undeveloped Carla in terms of hard discipline even if he does generally have less patience.

One thing that isn't super obvious about Shin but you do see if you know where to look for it, is that he kind of likes taking care of things. This is most obvious in two of his bonus CDs (his Versus IV bonus CD where he works at a dog café and his MMB Animate bonus CD featuring Asa the hamster) but there a couple of other instances where you see it come up (this sort of ties into acts of service being one of his love languages but that's a whole other thing).

If it's his own child, then even without an S/O, I imagine he'd be a lot more patient than some might think. I do think he would be kind of strict about training them, namely in swordplay and how to fight, but unlike with Carla, you would be able to tell he cared.

Honestly my biggest worry with Shin parenting on his own is what sort of values he'd impart to his child. If no one's helped Shin sort through his own strength complex, then I'm fairly certain his kid would be raised to believe strength was everything and that as a founder they were above all of the other races and could do whatever they wanted.

With an emotionally mature S/O who wasn't afraid to say no to him then I think Shin could make for a good parent. Any child he had would still be raised with the mindset of "the founders are the best" but to a less fanatical degree and Shin's S/O would be able to stop him from any making any of the more questionable decisions he might make on his own. "Shin, you are not teaching our five year old how to use a sword! Oh for heaven's sake if you must at least make sure it's a wooden one he can't hurt himself with".

He'd still be strict about making sure his children received whatever training he felt they needed but outside of that he could make for a fun parent. Shin's the parent who initially says no to getting a pet, later wilts under the mournful eyes of his S/O and their children and then ends up loving said pet and takes charge of caring for it.

I will say that whatever the circumstances of their birth, heaven help anyone who tried to harm either of the brothers' children as it would cause the both of them to go absolutely nuclear.

Mystic Impact

AKA combining two of my fandoms

Yoosung: Once an Anemo holder, he lost his Vision after losing Rika. His drive and motivation disappeared with his Vision, which explains his apparent slacking that contrasts so sharply from his younger teenage days. Over time I think he would regain his fervor, with the help of a kind traveler. Yoosung wants nothing more than to be seen as an adult, and he wants to prove himself at any opportunity. I actually see Anemo in that respect because he spends so much time trying to please others that he needs his own outlet to be free and without judgment, instead of desperate to meet others' expectations. Undoubtedly gets a sword, because he wants to be a hero.

Zen: Pyro. He is defined by his passion, his zest for the stage. Pyro is associated with the archon of war, but it manifests in the form of the burning fire of passion (e.g. Yanfei for law, Xiangling for cooking, Xinyan for music, Bennet for adventuring, etc.). He wants to blaze a trail on his own. Plus he's a tad hot-headed, while still warm and very much a "mom friend" of the RFA. He'd have a polearm, because it's elegant.

Jaehee: Geo. Since the Geo archon represents commerce and contracts, Jumin would be inclined to have an assistant with such a blessing. Furthermore, Jaehee is level-headed, determined, hard-working, and probably the most reasonable person in the RFA. That dedication and acuity are what will enable her to eventually pursue her dreams. Jaehee gets a claymore, because she's a martial artist and incredibly strong (and because petite women with big weapons make me happy).

Jumin: I'd be inclined to say Geo as well, but I hand you Cryo. Cryo characters are kind but lonely, often misunderstood and isolated. They are not cold per se, but the world has often been cold to them. Jumin is hard to read and comes off as harsh and icy, but he just struggles expressing his thoughts and feelings. He's fiercely loyal to his loved ones, but he's not afraid to be strict and perhaps overbearing when needed. I think this intensity, this gentle but firm strength, lends to Cryo. He would likely have a Catalyst, namely the pen from his father.

707: Pyro. But in his case, it is both for passion and war. He has done many things he isn't proud of, has learned many skills that many would describe as unsavory, in order to preserve himself but mainly to aim for a better life for Saeran. His passion for protecting his brother is unparalleled; we've seen the ends he will go to for Saeran's sake. He'd have a Catalyst that is best described as a wand or staff. He's also an alchemist.

Ray: Ray would be a Hydro wielder who is given a Cryo delusion by his Savior. While he's not afraid to use the Cryo to destroy enemies, at his heart he's a gentle young man who wants to tend to his garden. Hydro belongs to the archon of justice, and his life has been anything but just or fair. Whether justice means a fair trial or Hammurabi's code... that's for him to decide. Ultimately I think GE Saeran would only use his Hydro Vision, discarding the cursed Cryo, and his weapon would be a bow and arrow. Conversely, in an OS timeline, Unknown would reject his Vision entirely in favor of his Cryo delusion, which is powered by a Catalyst (yes, elixir). Also an alchemist.

V: Hydro. No wonder Ray hates him! In all seriousness, Hydro being the element of justice suits V, who wants to do right by saving Rika as atonement for neglecting his mother. He tends to take on the sins of everyone else and bear sole responsibility. He's a tragic character whose sense of justice hinges on his belief that he is the cause of everyone's suffering. He'd initially use a bow, but after he loses his eyesight, he'd need to switch to a sword as a close-range weapon.

Vanderwood: Electro. There's a joke to be made because they're constantly threatening to tase Seven, but more importantly Electro belongs to the archon of eternity. Vanderwood, as an agent, has no past but also no definitive future. They are forced to live only in the moment they have, abandoning all else. It's a lonely eternity trapped in a single moment. Catalyst that's essentially a taser, lol.

Rika: The Tsaritsa is SO Rika-coded that it kills me, and I'm dying for her eventual reveal. In the meantime, enjoy Cryo archon Rika. I could discuss this in further detail but that'd be a post in and of itself. She can use both a polearm and twin blades (think Childe in his delusion form).

They're also known to host the best parties! They tend to have a super tight guest list, but when word gets around there's mafioso from frickin everywhere trying to crash that event; #sufferingfromsuccess

Every year for their anniversary, they spend the whole day off at their favourite coffee spot; Incidentally, it's also the location of their first date! Every anniversary, it's like they're playing a game of who can one-up the other with the better gift (mostly for jokes)

I hope his s/o is ready for him to be awake at the crack ass of dawn every day, the faint sounds of him going about his morning routine and being careful enough to save some leftovers from breakfast for whenever they roll out of bed

He's definitely the type to offer to read aloud to his s/o while they're winding down with each other at the end of the day; it's usually some pretty in-depth philosophy stuff, he seems like a pretty traditional guy.. and they get lulled to a peaceful sleep from his gentle voice

When he notices that they're knocked out because they let out a soft snore, he smiles warmly down at them and marks his place in the book before setting it aside; He's always sure to press his lips softly to their forehead or cheeks before he turns the lights off and pulls the covers up to sleep

They do their morning stretches and yoga!! Kinesthetics and tai chi and everything lol your chakra boutta be so aligned bruh; They also probably shower together, for water saving reasons duh we love some environmentally conscious ppl :) and Fon offers to wash their back for them.. in return, they always help him redo his hair once it's dry enough to be plaited neatly into that long braid once again

They're both quite lax people, with his partner being the one that's more energetic or prone to overthinking at times; He's an amazing listener and always has good advice and all the patience in the world for them

Oh he's cute.... he's a good one..; Definitely the type of person to always offer his s/o a ride to and from their work or school, you know he feels cool as hell pulling up in full leather garb on his bike

He always helps them load their things into the small storage compartment in the back and offering his jacket to them for protection, then insists that they wrap their arms around his waist before he suggestively peers at anyone who may be looking (what a show off) and heads off

He's a thrill seeker! He goes a little (a lot) too fast simply because he's unkillable and he's used to it at this point, but his s/o winces a bit at the feeling of the wind whipping them through the protective jacket, clinging on a little tighter

Now that's just positive reinforcement for his reckless behavior because he loves that feeling, not stopping unless they actively tell him to
