Psst what if Caranthir’s “red face” is from a lupus butterfly rash?
HELL YES anon I see your vision
Disabled Tolkien characters series
Assorted headcanons under the cut:
Elves, especially in the Years of the Trees where their conception of disability is... nearly non-existent (I have loads of headcanons about that and I'm writing a whole fic) don't really know about the immune system and autoimmune diseases.
Caranthir starts having symptoms very early in childhood, at first mostly anaemia and some joint pain, and skin issues. His butterfly rash is near-constant, though much worse during flares. Nobody flags this as a single issue, especially since he's also having other troubles (he's autistic, and he has pretty severe IBS-like symptoms).
Celegorm (starting to show symptoms of EDS, which they do know of because Míriel had it first) and Curufin (much more visibly/loudly autistic) are both a good deal more worrying to Fëanor and Nerdanel at that point, so Caranthir's issues tend to be, if not swept under the rug, at least not truly addressed. The parents are doing their best, but raising seven children is a lot, and Caranthir unfortunately gets all the Middle Child Syndrome.
(though in the Shibboleth, it's mentioned that Nerdanel named him Carnistir because he "had the ruddy complexion of his mother." Nerdanel with lupus, anyone?)
Once he's an adult, the symptom that bothers him the most is joint pain in his hands. His craft and his interests are in books, both writing them (he's a historian and economist) and bookbinding. He needs his hands.
Caranthir and Celegorm, because of their otherwise rocky relationship, swing wildly between curling up together for comfort and warmth during flares and shouting at each other because pain makes them both extremely bad-tempered.
The facial rash/lesions remains Caranthir's most visible symptom, and in a society where everyone is beautiful (especially his family), it's not an easy burden. Someone else made a wonderful post about this that I'll just link, rather than paraphrase.

between having to make an hour-plus drive into atlanta for the last three days (and two more next week), insulin and CGM sensors and Sam's cavalcade of meds, we are looking Less Than Robust going into this last few days before the insurance payment, and our phones on top of that. I haven't made a full list of all the donation/purchase places in a bit so I'm gonna do that here, and if anyone feels inclined to help it would mean so, so much, we're really struggling in this transition period from Hospital Sam to At-Home Sam.

Took my laptop apart at to clean it (at 3:30am as you do) and took some time to poke around and look at the internals.
This ram is so ancient that it out to be in a museum. It seems like 1333mhz ddr3 was quite reasonable at the time, especially in a laptop. But nowadays I'm pretty sure my phone is generations more powerful. Kind of insane how computing power has rocketed forward in just a decade or so. I've never even heard of super talent before lol. They seem to be a bargain computer hardware company of sorts.
Honestly kind of a miracle that the laptop still works. It got used and abused as a main work station and routinely ran in the ~90'C range with many blue screens over the year due to over heating or corrupted memory. Now that I think about it I had an issue once where the ram was corrupted but reseating them and running memtest brought them back to life. It was strange, but you take the rare Ws that don't involve individually testing every stick of ram in every ram slot only to find out your mobo is broken.
This was 4am tech ramblings with Scarves.

One a scale of 1-10 how down are you for punching someone in the face for not respecting you
Oh man, what kind of disrespect are we talking? Like a cut-in-front-of-you-at-the-subway type thing? Or a backhanded comment thing?
Because uh… I think maybe a three? Four on a bad day! I don’t want to punch someone if they’re just being annoying, especially if it’s only me they’re disrespecting. It’s usually not worth the fight, and words don’t mean anything unless you let them affect you, y’know?
Also, I can’t fight.

Dilemma: it’s nice and cool outside and inside is stuffy and warm, so windows open. HOWEVER the barrel organ is playing outside and with the windows open it is VERY LOUD I can hear my glasses rattling in their cabinets

right before my internet went out I found a listing on ali with MH boy shoes and was gonna link it but by the time my net was back they’d already sold out :/
hopefully I get all the ones I ordered. I’ve had bad luck with buying multiples of things on there, usually they only send me one thing even if I ordered two or three, but my guys really need some shoes

I do think doctors have gotta find a different way to tackle insomnia beyond condescending lectures about meditation and melatonin
