Okita souji with a sensitive s/o headcanons (my baby is so underrated)
Okita Souji my beloved, he's such a cutie beautiful beautiful beautiful, beautiful boy-
Also, it's been a while since I've written anything in English so if anything's sounds a bit off it's because of it
Despite being known as a bloodlusted swordsman, the strongest among the Shinsengumi, the Demon Child, Okita Souji himself is quite a sensitive person, his own way. So, as long as you aren't his opponent in a fight, he'll generally be quite nice to you.
Some people, mostly among warriors like him, might perceive your being sensitive as a weakness, but this doesn't apply to him. Okita his able to recognise it as a strenght - the way you'd be concerned about him whenever he fights some terrible foe and the way you'd greet him with a smile, when he approaches you after winning another battle. Sometimes he feels guilty, he didn't want to worry you - seeing you gasp, your eyes reddened as he dodges a hit that could be fatal. Okita could almost think you don't believe in him, but he knows that's just the way you are.
Always understanding other, always a tad more emotional than the average, always having a sort of poetic outlook on the world surrounding you - so different from the world made of blood and near-death experiences he faced daily. You allowed him to see life through different eyes, yours. He might've been kind, but at the hand of the day, he was worried you might've just seen him as a cold-blooded murderer? Yet, you were able to go over that, and hold his hands dirty with blood. You wew the one, just like Kondo, who had been able to see the "child", not just the demon. Thank to you, he was one step closer to be human, though that wouldn't change his essence.

My brother recently got into Demon Slayer so I wanted to make a kny oc for him since I did it before with both me and my sister and never got around to my brother :)
But I started by refreshing my own design because wow?? It’s been 4 years since I first made my kny insert character and a lot of things are now outdated! Not to mention my art has improved a lot, I hope. More details under the cut!
Meet Ebisu Koharu: youngest of the Ebisu family and physically the weakest. They only barely passed Final Selection by hiding for the entire week and surviving off tips from their older siblings. Nonetheless, they still want to contribute, which is why they hold onto a thick, leather bound book that records every demon they’ve ever met in precise detail, with labeled diagrams and scribbled calculations in the margins of different strengths and weaknesses.
After spending a few years on the job, and properly seeing their data contribute to the successes of other demon slayers, they’ve come a bit more into their own as a competent researcher and fighter, though they still do tend to request paired missions with friends and family to act more as a support role rather than a fighter.
The Ebisu family is one of scholars. The eldest daughter Kaoru is a doctor, and the eldest son Shougen is a chemist. By nature, fighting is not necessarily their strong suit, which is why their family breathing style and techniques are all poison-assisted. Of the three, Koharu is the weakest and most averse to combat— they wield a short half-length blade, with more of a smooth ceremonial hilt and sheath than any practical weapon.

Do you think one could attain decent-ish ability to read Japanese just by studying kanji? Specifically asking because the kanji learnin' service "wanikani" is the single Japanese resource that works best with my brain, but then there are separate resources for grammar and vocab and and and.....
You will get REAAAALLLLLYYY far knowing only the kanji but you're going to have to know hiragana and katakana at some point too. Tofugu, the company that did Wanikani, has two mnemonics-based guides for the kana that are basically Wanikani Lite. They're how I learned the kana and I swear by them.
Here's hiragana: https://www.tofugu.com/japanese/learn-hiragana/
And katakana: https://www.tofugu.com/japanese/learn-katakana/
Hiragana are especially vital to learning kanji; you won't be able to use 99% of Japanese-English dictionaries without them. BUT they're pretty easy and the rules for using them are consistent. You won't have to remember any irregular exceptions for any of them.
I haven't tried it yet, but I've heard really good things about the Crystal Hunters manga series as a fun/low stress way to learning Japanese vocab and grammar. It eases the reader into new concepts and then repeats them throughout the chapter so you remember them. There are free vocab and study guides/lists for each chapter too. Might be worth checking out once you get some kanji and the kana under your belt? The first book is also free.

Good luck!!

Excerpt from 2024 人物 interview, found here:
For example, [while redoing the album] Qian Lei "forced" him to write a song. Qian Lei thought, this new album was extremely significant to him, so there should be a song Zhou Shen wrote himself. What's more, others have criticized him for not being able to compose. But Qian Lei knows he can---and quite well too. "It's not possible someone with strong emotions and a sensitive heart to not be able to write a good melody, it's completely not possible."
Usually, Zhou Shen will hum out a melody and record it with his phone---sound engineer Xu Wei has listened to them and thought the melody lines were really good, and could absolutely be straightened out into an original song. But Zhou Shen always felt it wasn't good enough, and even said, to compose beside such a skilled composer like Lei-ge, it would be like an elementary schooler insisting on reciting their composition in front of a doctorate holder---so imprudent.
His friends all know his personality---for a "master in self-deprication," being unduly humble was a daily occurrence.
His old friend of ten years, lyricist 沃特艾文儿 said: "Not just composing---when I first met him, he even thought his singing was bad. It was so upsetting to me. I'm very relieved that he at least recognizes his singing ability now."
Qian Lei has also listened to Zhou Shen's compositions before, and told him, isn't this pretty good? Zhou Shen said, don't mess with me. Qian Lei said, I'm serious, I'm not joking, it's quite good. Zhou Shen said, bye bye. Qian Lei said, bye bye yourself. Thus, when working on the new album, he would use every means possible to force him to write a song. One moment he would "hold a hammer behind him and get him to hurry up and write," the next moment he would set his mind at ease, saying "you don't have to overthink it, gradually the more you write the easier it will be. I'm here, so don't worry."
This song was written at Qian Lei's home---once the first step of writing was taken, the rest went smoothly. Musically, Zhou Shen already had things in mind, and a few hours later, the main melody was basically set.
Zhou Shen also participated a lot in writing the lyrics. He really liked the line "I can catch the flowers floating in the wind; I don't care whether I fall into the galaxy or into the mud." But "no matter how I sang it, it felt a little off, like it was missing something." He hummed it and hummed it, and out of nowhere added a soft, low, even a little "rude", "嘿,少管我," and "suddenly it came to life."
Before, Zhou Shen had always wanted to write a song called "少管我." In his earlier years, he had randomly used these words in replies to fans, and in an interview where he talked about how his fans were never satisfied no matter what he changed his profile picture to, he ended up jokingly shouting "少管我, " and it then went viral. After that, Zhou Shen thought, as a singer, if one day I could turn "少管我" into a song, how interesting would that be.
These past few years, he found a lot of people to compose its melody, but he always felt the melodies weren't quite what he wanted. The album that was cancelled also had a song in it named "少管我," but he still felt it wasn't quite right. Until now, it came to him like a "gift" from above.
The first impression many people get from these three words is more or less rigid, sharp, harsh, stubborn, and capricious. But to Zhou Shen, a rebellious attitude is easy but truly knowing yourself is a long journey. "It's not necessarily about rebelling against the whole world, but you have to clearly know what version of yourself you want to be, and only then can you become yourself."
The day of the interview at an art park in Tongzhou, Beijing, the sky darkened a little. Zhou Shen took out his cell phone and played the unmixed recording of "少管我." The melody was light, "like travelling, very free." He shook his head to beat, and listened to the song he had listened to countless times one more time.
"When I was writing this song and its lyrics, I didn't have "少管我" in mind, but in the end it became the "少管我" that I wanted." Moments like these, sparks flying, you think, "that’s right"---that's the biggest joy in making an album.

remembered i stole a copy of athenaze from my brother and was reading some of the passages because the online textbook i've been using doesn't have a lot of reading practice and i'm realizing i would really benefit from it but like. i kind of can't do it because every single passage is just. a farmer telling his slave to be less lazy and work more? and there's a lot of repetition which is great for learning but terrible if you don't want to just keep reading "don't be lazy and go work" over and over. and there's a whole inset in english explaining that yeah athenians had slaves but they didn't treat them that badly! alongside all the stories of this guy treating his slave badly as a joke. unenjoyable reading experience.

// any headcanons how the cat king managed to get a VHS Player/TV to the Cat Kingdom Castle? XD
tbh i think they probably just stole the VCR from the human world and then worked their magic on it so it would work in the cat kingdom laughs
like it's somehow connected to the king's eyes that are floating about the castle, which obviously isn't humans' doing. also if you notice, the TV apparatus itself is more of a crystal ball than a TV ghjfkd it's also connected to something outside the room by wires of some sort, which i'm guessing is its power source
in short there's a lot of weird unexplained things in the cat kingdom and i'm not really about to try to add logic to it lmao
that said i do have a headcanon that a lot of these tapes are either visitors to the cat kingdom that the king wanted to record orrr baby lune videos fjjfioea

Playing God (Paramore)
How can that be logical?
Just keep on cramming ideas down my throat
2. STFU! (Rina Sawayama)
Silence, finally in my head
But it’s too late, you already left
You’re preaching, even though I’m dead
3. Je me promets (Meryem Aboulouafa)
However fate goes,
if it lifts me high then sullies me with the ground
and my bones split
and my blood flows,
I promise myself I will revive my honor from the warm red ash
and blaze with my nothingness until life goes up in flames
4. Dig Me Out (Sleater Kinney)
Dig me out, dig me in
Out of this mess, baby, out of my head
Dig me out, dig me in
Out of my body, out of my skin
5. Nada (Lido Pimienta)
Yo te soy sincero
Y no le tengo miedo
A la muerte
Si es que me quiere
Aquí la espero de frente y sonriente
I’m honest with you
And I’m not afraid
Of death
If she wants me
I’ll wait for her here, facing her and smiling
6. Magnet (Bikini Kill)
You don’t own me, fuck!
You hold me down like a magnet
And this is not the life for me
7. Courage to Change (Sia)
World, I want to leave you better
I want my life to matter
I am afraid I have no purpose here
8. I Bet on Losing Dogs (Mitski)
My baby, my baby
Tell your baby that I’m your baby
9. A Girl in Trouble (Is a Temporary Thing) (Debora Iyall)
She's on the mend and knows that she's earned
The scars and the lines
By and by - one step at a time
Her love can dazzle and delight - she transcends
