I'm curious how many whump writers get pulled into the physical sensations their characters are feeling. I've gotten faint while writing blood loss and needle stuff, gotten body aches and chills while writing fevers, etc. But it's common for me to have psychosomatic symptoms, so I'm curious if it happens for others.

Elaborations on the different options below the cut.
Leather Collar
Tumblr media
Old reliable. If it's good enough for your dog it is good enough for your whumpee.
Metal Collar
Tumblr media
Heavy and Sturdy. Your whumpee is going to feel the weight of this one. But more importantly they won't get out of this one as easily.
Shock Collar
Tumblr media
The perfect choice to teach your whumpee some obedience. A painful jolt of electricity at the press of a button will quickly remind your whumpee of who is in charge.
Explosive Collar
Tumblr media
The extreme option. Your whumpee better does what you say if they value their life because if they don't. BOOM!
Enchanted Collar
Tumblr media
Don't like your whumpee having free will? With this collar your whumpee will be compelled to follow your every comand once it is locked around their neck.
Magic Collar
Tumblr media
Collar your whumpee with magic. This ethereal collar might not exist physically but it is real nonetheless. And with enough imagination and mana it can practically replicate any attributes.
Subtle Collar
Tumblr media
Barely more than a necklace. But as long as you and your whumpee know what it stands for the difference is practically negligible. It does have the benefit of not drawing too much attention if you like to take your whumpee out in public.

Okay since the post about death in whump is going around quite a lot and I'm seeing different statements in the comments, I am curious as to how the percentages balance out
For me personally, definition wise, the aftermath of a whump scene is not relevant to the whump part (the injury, or getting sick) before it. That's because I define whump as solely the hurt part in hurt/comfort. Even though I pretty much only consume whump content with a good ending, and vastly prefer it
I know that there's absolutely something to be said about how death of a character can be whump material for someone else, but in this case I'm just solely talking about the character the scene is about.
This poll also assumes that whatever happens before the death is an injury or illness of some kind, and the scene is not solely character dying.
Share around for a bigger reach!

I’ve been thinking about this for a few days and I’d really like to hear people’s thoughts.
Feel free to add your thoughts, I’d really like to hear more about what readers want from their whump. I know I have my own opinions, but I’d love to hear more.

Okay, weird question
Whenever I'm depressed/feeling down/sick, I step away from whump and think about fluff or anything else that doesn't involve whump or even angst and hurt/comfort. It's probably just me, but I'm curious if there are others who are the same.

Does it count as "used as bait" or just as blackmail/manipulation if a character makes a deal in order to keep a loved one safe? A deal in which, if broken, then the loved one will be taken and put into the danger they're trying to save them from?
I say this because in my idea the Whumper is using the Whumpee's loved one essentially as bait for them to take the deal, even if the loved one isn't present at the deal-making. Though, the loved one is currently in the danger and would be removed if Whumpee takes the deal.
Seems like both to me, but I'm still unsure for eventual tagging purposes, lol.
[Edit: Reblog I made with added context]

I wasn't sure what show had gotten me into whump until I started rewatching The Vampire diaries, by god that show (and more specifically Ian Somerhalder as Damon Salvatore) had preteen me foaming at the mouth FERAL for a dangerous bad boy like Damon.

Whumpers!
I'm curious to see at what age y'all had your first whump thoughts, even if it was before you learned what whump even is. AKA your whump awakening. For me it was watching a show, getting a blorbo from it, and almost immediately after putting him in SituationsTM. It could be something like that, or coming up with random fantasies, or a dramatic drawing you did as a toddler. It could be anything, really, and from any age, as long as it can fall under the whump description in any way.
Note: It's not when you realized what whump is and that you're a whumper! It's how old you remember being when you first had whump thoughts!
