#why would u want this. why would u exchange currency for this
oh right, technically i sell t-shirts
Tumblr media
i forgot about that
#holidays are coming up and it would make a terrible gift#that's the main selling point#anyways these exist and can be exchanged for legal tender#the cost is the listed price + the emotional expense of knowing that i am judging u#bc i am. i am judging u#why would u want this. why would u exchange currency for this#there are so many other things you could exchnage currency for instead#a grocery store shrimp platter for instance#with the nauseatingly red cocktail sauce that is SO much better than a t shirt any time#hmm chicken picatta at a local Italian Eatery perchance? i am. a big fan of anything picatta#oh oh i know! 3.6 POUNDS OF FRESH OKRA#FOR THE COST OF THIS FRIVOLOUS T SHIRT U COULD INSTEAD PURCHASE 3.6 POUNDS OF FRESH DELICIOUS OKRA#and then --hold on i have a recipe--and then what u do is#so it is basically sacrilege to suggest this but what u do is u skip the cornmeal entirely#my southern ancestors are shaking a wooden spoon at me right now but LISTEN. u skip. the gotdang. cornmeal#instead: wash chop and soak (for 10 min) the okra in a mixture of 1 egg to tblsp water#then coat in flour#THATS IT JUST FLOUR#No cornmeal. i am betraying my heritage rn but I'm RIGHT#coat in flour sprinkle liberally in S&P and FRY that suck in veg oil high heat#until crispy & brown & u hear your arteries clenching in apprehension#so. so yeah#that's what u should do instead of buying this shirt go fry the shit out of some okra#(but buy local and young & tender if u can bc the grocery store is full of old-and-therefore-super-stiff specimens#pro tip (aka grandma tip): if u can't chop okra smoothly with your normal cutting knife then it's too old and tough.#...i mean u probably CAN still fry the shit out of it I've certainly done that before it's just much less delicious#ANYWAY. anyway ANYWAY. shirt. okra. farmers market. that reminds me of a post i made back when we first started selling these dang shorts#shirts. shorts shorts. oh shit i should make a crop top option.#i. i don't Know How to make a crop top option#HUH . . . i need to lie down now and contemplate the constant and irreconcilable limitations of the human experience good night

YEAHHHH LMAOO that was the only time I've sent an ask on anon idk why I was so anxious that day LMAOOO
Tho I will say I've debated asking this one question to u so many times and everytime I wanna go on anon but then I realise it would not. Make any sense . If I was on anon so I've just refrained from asking lmaoo (which wow brain as soon as I typed this I've forgotten the question. Good job brain)
ANYWAYS MHMHMHM it's of a strawberry flower!! It's genuinely just such a gorgeous tatt I'd want it for myself even if it wasn't matching so I feel very comfortable getting it in the case we ever split up or anything <3
OOHHH THANK YOU YES PLS FEEL FREE TO GIVE ADVICE I AM ALWAYS LOOKING FOR MORE both for traveling solo in another country (I am Scared) and also tattoo after care?? Like. It's gonna be above my ankle how careful of socks/pants should I be :000
I mean if you ever wanna go on anon to ask me something that's totally fine I get it, and also if you're ever worried about asking me something just know that if I ever don't want to answer a question for any reason (ie: the answer isn't something I want to divulge publicly, I don't feel comfortable talking about that subject, I feel like I just don't have a good answer, etc.) I just won't answer it. it doesn't mean I'm going to hold a grudge against someone who asks me something I don't wanna answer. I get it, people are curious or have questions or whatever and that's fine! if I don't wanna answer I simply won't and that doesn't mean I'm upset or annoyed or anything like that
oooo a strawberry flower sounds so pretty!! I'm sure that's gonna look amazing
okay advice time for travel + tattoos under the cut bc it got long
oh yeah I was gonna say you're from canada right? I think going through customs is a bit easier for US/Canadian citizens traveling between the two countries, but still good luck with the lines. other advice I have for traveling in another country solo... while you might consider getting your currency exchanged, almost everyone and everywhere takes card these days so as long as you have a card that can be used internationally (I believe mastercard and visa are pretty much usable in every country, although I'm sure if it's just between the US and Canada most cards are fine, just make sure to check). but also if you do wanna do currency exchange, wait until you're in the US to do that or else you'll get ripped off. once you're in the US just go to an ATM and withdraw cash from your bank account, and it'll come out in US dollars without the additional fee you'd get from going to a currency exchange place
OKAY TATTOO TIPS
I think most tattoo artists these days use second skin after giving someone a tattoo. it's basically a sticky thin sheet of plastic that the artist will put on top of the tattoo after it's finished, and usually your artist will instruct you to leave it on anywhere from 24 hours to several days. any artist worth their salt will properly explain how long to keep it on for, what to expect and look out for, etc. the second skin will protect the tattoo so you won't have to worry about it rubbing against fabric in the initial few days after getting it. although I'll say taking that stuff off is a BITCH it's like peeling a bandaid off but so much worse
however, your artist might not use second skin. out of my five tattoos, only two of the artists I've been to used second skin which is apparently unusual because from what I've heard from tattoo artists is that it's pretty much standard at this point to use it. however because only my latter two tattoos used second skin, I didn't realize that I have reactions to second skin that make it not suitable for me to use. you might have a reaction as well and that's ok! for me at least my reaction wasn't anything bad, it's just that I noticed a lot of redness around the second skin and when I took it off (earlier than I was supposed to) it left marks around my tattoo that didn't go away for 6 months. so yeah in the future if I go to an artist and they want to use second skin, I'm going to refuse because I've healed 3 tattoos perfectly fine without it. so if your artist doesn't use second skin (and tbh even if they do because you'll need this once you take the second skin off) buy some aquaphor. your artist is probably going to instruct you to wash the tattoo with antibacterial soap 2-3 times a day, and afterwards you should put a thin layer of aquaphor on top of the tattoo to protect it and soothe any dryness or scabbing. it might seem annoying to wash a tattoo so many times a day, but trust me once it starts scabbing you're going to want to wash it because it itches and the aquaphor calms it down.
having the tattoo on your ankle might be tricky since it's too cold to wear shorts, and the hem of your pants might rub against it. try to wear pants that are looser around your ankles (no skinny jeans or leggings) so that the fabric doesn't irritate it. and try to wear socks that don't touch the tattoo.
above all though, your tattoo artist should be able to tell you everything I just told you. don't be afraid to ask them questions. they want your tattoo to heal nicely bc that's their work! and just in general don't be shy to talk to your artist. my first two tattoos aren't bad by any means, but I don't love them because I was too anxious to properly communicate with my artist about what I wanted. don't be afraid to ask them to change something in the design, or if they put the stencil on and you want a different placement tell them! your artist is there to work with you so just talk to them :)
okay that got so much longer than I meant it to hope that helps!!

I've got a question is like feedback on, I wanna know if I'm being reasonable or not
Basically I'm in this really small species and the only way to get currency for myos is the discord bot daily roll thing or exchanging between users
The daily roll will give you like 10-15 currency and the myos cost 600-2400 currency
They're cheap by USD standards, $6 for a common, but it'd take 40 days of straight daily grinding and that's if you get 15 every day to get one common myo. For a rare it'd be 160 days with the same perfect odds.
It's been months and no one has even reached the common myo goal yet because nobody is checking into a dead server once a day every day
People bring it up with the owner and the owner says they want myos to be hard so they're rewarding to get, but no one has even gotten one yet months after the launch
To me it feels like they made it as hard as possible so people would pay their actual money instead.
The species isn't even unique which is why id rather not spend my money on it, but I'm thinking of just trading my opening event oc and leaving. The owner is either missing, posting adopts that they only actually accept money offers on despite being "ota", or arguing with people about it being impossible to get myos
It's just frustrating, but I want to see if this frustration is warranted or if I'm being ridiculous, so please let me know. Thank u
I think it’s warranted, if it’s been months then I don’t think it’s working

RHYTHM ANON HERE BACK ON MY BULLSHIT AGAIN BUT UH IM NO LONGER ANONYMOUS BC I NEED TO PUT MEDIA AND DONT WANT JT TO GO AWAY SO FUCK IT!!!
Also I'm doing better ty :D
Okay, now, to the point of this post!
I converted stellin into REAL MONEYYY HELL YEAH 💵💴💶💷
This was a little difficult but HERE IS MY PROCESS‼️ I converted them to USD and Philippine Pesos bc I THINK that's the currency you use?? I forgot I'm sorry 😭
It looks very wack at first but trust me 🤷🏾‍♀️
1. Find out how much gems and Tears cost
Self explanatory.
Tumblr media
Don't mind the first buy bonus, if I start spending money I will NOT stop ☹️‼️
This is how many gems a Tear of Themis costs.
Tumblr media
2. Find something that can be spent on both tears AND stellin
This was the hardest part, I redownloaded the LG event for this and might replay bc it was my favorite event since I started when the eng version came out 😍
I forgot what these are called already BUT it can be spent on both tears & stellin
Tumblr media Tumblr media
It says limited but we have seen from past events that limited and regular tears cost the same amount of gems (I'm like 98% sure of this correct me if I'm wrong pls)
Don't mind that Oracles of Justice are circled I tried taking this another way at first but you can't buy those and stellin separately so ignore that
3. Convert!!!
SO the things to buy them with that I forgot the name of I will call octopus coins bc that's what they look like!!!!
10 octopus coins = 1 Tear
1 octopus coin = 15,000 Stellin
so I divided 0.99 by 10 and got 9 or 10 cents so 15k stellin is about 10 cents
That is VERY LOW not what I expected
If I tried to find out how many Stellin are worth 1 cent which I am I would get ~1,500 stellin is worth 1 cent.
I also converted this to Philippine Pesos. 1500 stellin is worth 795 Philippine Pesos so 1 Peso is worth about 2 stellin.
And I ALSO converted my saved stellin to USD
Tumblr media
197971 Stellin is worth about 132 USD.
That is. A lot!!! More than I have saved actually 😰
Why did I do this? Impulse.
This was fun though THANKS FOR LETTING ME DUMP ALL THIS ON YOU
Well you didn't really let me I just. Did It. But if you're reading this THANKS!
hullo rhythm anon!! with the anon off JHVJKFHASKFA, im rlly glad ur feeling better :DD
and at the rest of what youve sent me
oh my GOD
YO U.....CREATED A FRIGGING EXCHANGE RATE FOR STELLIN COMPARED TO LEGIT CURRENCIES, my jaw is on the FLOOR. im not good at math so i cant say much on ur method aside from the fact it looks incredibly impressive and i applaud the amount of effort u put into this omg!!!
1PHP (which is indeed the currency i use!!) being equivalent to 2ST (stellins, i just wanted to abbreviate it so that it looks like a Legit Currency as well) is actually super believable!! this is roughly the same exchange rate for philippine peso to japanese yen.
i now vaguely wonder about the economics behind the stellin's purchasing power in the global arena ingame....and now i stop vaguely wondering because i dont know anything about economics JHVAKJHFVAKSJHFAS
thank u for doing math, u are so much braver than i ever will be (also this is all just so delightful!!!)

heyo eon i need some advice on smth bc i dont know if i have any ground in this or if im just being a spoilt brat. to preface this im a high schooler and i dont have access to my own debit/credit card/electronic money and rely on asking my parents to order stuff online for me (i usually pay for at least half of it esp if its something expensive) and bc of this my parents and i make deals a lot like i'll do x amount of chores for them to place an online order, chores are kinda like currency (though i dont get an allowence cause they pay for a lot of stuff for me) and i dont mind this its a fair trade especially if im not paying fully for the thing im buying. when i do mind is when they alter the deals midway through like if we agree they'll order somthing for me if i watch my sibling for a few hours and that deal is set like a contract but then suddenly they'll turn around and say no u have to watch your sibling and do the dishes for the week and vaccum the living room. i hate it when they do this it rlly upsets me because i feel like i dont have any control over anything and theylre messing with things that are already set like arent there rules to deals it makes me anxious and panicky. it also might be an autistic thing idk,
thx eon if u get this!!
hey anon! first off, you are not being a spoiled brat, I got a bit pissed off on your behalf just reading this. altering the deal midway through is lying, plain and simple. if someone says "I'll do x if you do y", then you do y and they don't do x, they lied to you and that's not ok. someone who does this routinely is using that lie to manipulate you into agreeing to something that they think you might not have agreed to otherwise. if you feel like you could bring this up with your parents, I would definitely recommend doing so! you might want to include:
possibly starting with that you appreciate that they help you pay for things (it sounds like this is true, making someone feel appreciated never hurts, and it might make them more likely to listen to what you have to say instead of dismissing you)
explain what's upsetting you and why
ask for what you'd prefer they do (for example, to just tell you the whole list at the beginning instead of changing it halfway through). you could maybe emphasize that you aren't trying to get out of chores, you just want consistency and honesty
for example: "I really appreciate that you help me pay for things in exchange for chores, but it makes me really upset when the deal changes halfway through because [all of the reasons you just said]. if you want me to watch my sibling, do the dishes, and vacuum in exchange for helping me pay for the thing, please just tell me that from the beginning instead of adding it later! I'm happy to do it, but I really need to know from the beginning so I can plan for it and feel like the deal is honest. in the future, could you please think of all the chores you want me to do when we first make the deal, and then not change it once we agree?" (obviously you'll have your own way of saying this, this is just an example. also, sending a text or writing a note can be a good way of making sure you say everything you wanted to if you're like me and tend to forget everything you planned to say as soon as you're faced with confrontation)
I don’t know your parents and I don't know how receptive they would be to confrontation, but I hope they would hear you out! you could also start writing down the deal when it's made as proof of what they said in case they later try to pretend that wasn't the deal you made. you are so 100% not in the wrong for wanting your parents to just be honest with you. good luck!

Heyy, I was that one anon that asked you about NU:Carnival not that long ago… so I was finally able to play it (via browser) and I gotta say, I have some salt and some things to say, if u don’t mind…
I like the art, voice acting and other things, but man………. Those f-cking spikes in difficulty in every new chapter just kills me. Like, you are doing first 2-3 chapters no problems, and then BAM the 4th chapter and now you need to constantly grind to get your level up, but the problem is that you are constantly short on money (like, normal currency, not the one you use to pull characters), also, if you have any good characters, it’s hard to force yourself to invest into slightly worse units bc it’s like……… “but that’s so much money….TT”. And mind you, I’m used to grind in the gacha games, but for some reason I feel this game is ESPECIALLY grind-y??? Maybe bc in the other gacha games there are separate stages to grind resources like gold/exp/etc. Then again, I’m only at the beginning of the chapter 6, so maybe more stages for better grind will be open later?? Idk but at this point it’s like, excruciatingly grindy, and as I said, I play a lot of gacha and I’m used to grind.
I the biggest problem (excluding grind) is the story itself… I like the characters (honestly, after what you’ve said I was afraid that the vampire and the incubus characters will be annoying, but they are actually normal guys), but aside from characters, it’s just feels like there is SO many details are missing from the plot… like we are just told as a matter of fact that mc have spent several weeks in this new world and I’m like???? What??? How?? When??? Why not show at least a little bit of what he was doing? We are also told about the fact that Eiden and other characters actually DO something outside of the main plot, but we never see it? I mean, every chapter you have at least two “free”, as you call them, stages, that have no plot attached to them… why not put something fun there? Honestly I don’t try to bitch and whine, but every time characters are talking about something that doesnt involve main plot I feel like we are missing out on a lot of stuff. I suppose you can get extra information by getting the character via gacha and then raising affection with them (which you need to do several times + with the “presents” that are not easily available for all the characters), but then again, the fact that you need to GET the character at first, is, well… you know… you know.
I also feel like some characters luck a little, because they are not given much time to show themselves. Like, sure, all of them get at least one chapter (each have at least several stages with plot), but the moment their chapter have come to an end, they are side-lined, which makes sense, I guess… then again, I suppose you need to pull the character to get to know them more.
And the other thing… the monetization in this one is just super over the top… there is like several types of PAID currency? I mean, you can get all of it via grind (I think?) but still it’s just wild for me that there is more than one currency that you can pay for + as far as I can tell the exchange ratio of this in-game currency to real life currency is really wack…
In general I like some elements of the game, like, you know, character designs (Quincy my beloved, Kuya my big gremlin bastard), I like mc, he is very cute and endearing I think, just the general vibe of the game is nice, but there is also a lot of things that are… off? I don’t know how to explain it, but in general, I wish I liked this game more than I do now.
LMAO yeah its a little weird to immediately sideline characters instead of building more story around them as a unit but maybe that would have happened after you get the last guy to join and they just wanted to build each character somewhat separately/with the MC because its a harem type game.
Yeah the level pacing is real weird its probably there to encourage buying shit, I only got to the end of Quincys intro stage and I havent played since so... WHO KNOWS. But yeah the grind wasnt fun but I dont remember much about it anymore tbh.
LMAO yeah its a little weird to immediately sideline characters instead of building more story around them as a unit but maybe that would have happened after you get the last guy to join and they just wanted to build each character somewhat seperately/with the MC because its a harem type game.
I still think the demon and vamp are obnoxious but if you dont mind that antagonistic relationship in other series its basically the same shit.
The game not really delving into the bts of the MC is probably because again its a self-insert harem game so the MC needs to be pretty vague and the main pull for the series is just the sexy stuff so its not too surprising the story is pretty shallow.
But yeah I stopped playing awhile ago so my gripes for the game I kinda forgot about?

lil bit of a insanely long rant about Everskies lol [even if u don't know the game, if you like hearing about crazy game economics/game drama, you might like this]
if Everskies seriously gets rid of the currency exchange system I might have to stop using the site for real. I mean I hate to say it but there's literally no other way to get stars without spending real money,,, and with how many shop items are limited and cost a shit ton of stars, why the fuck keep playing if I can't afford the shit in the shop?
and like, I understand that they've been struggling because their userbase has always been 90% jackasses. but the fact that they still won't bring back the forums (which were shut down after people wanted to address racist admins and they wanted people to stop talking about it, I haven't forgotten) has been baffling for a long time, and if they keep taking away core features of the game while simultaneously neglecting to fix broken shit, why even play?
the only thing Everskies has going for it is the constant updates to the clothing and even then, the releases recently have been absolutely awfully planned. like, it's hard to keep up when they go days to weeks without updating the shops, and then suddenly drop thousands of items at once.
and if you're unfamiliar with the game, idk why you read this but I'll explain the currency issue: Everskies boasts having a "realistic" currency and exchange system. There's Stardust and there's Stars. Stars being worth more. You could exchange them, but there's a fluctuating exchange rate based on what players are exchanging, so for a long time one Star was worth 150 Stardust, but these days a Star is worth 273. So, why the inflation?
The problem is that you primarily make money on Everskies by doing things like playing games, but the games give next to nothing as a payout! Usually under 200 Stardust, barely enough for one cheap shop item. Which would be fine, similar games have similar payouts— Virtual Popstar, for example, gives $150 & 150 Fans per game played/won. But Virtual Popstar also has weekly leaderboards for each game where users compete to be in the Top 10 and win unique limited clothing sets... Everskies only has leaderboards for the Top 3 of each game, every day and every week, the #1 only receives 300 Stars for a day, and 1000 for a week.
300 stars is absolutely nothing compared to the costs of items in high quality sets these days. People will price parts of their backgrounds at 100 stars, and make you buy multiple parts to have the full background... The Everskies economy is bad. EVERYTHING has gotten too expensive, and the only way players can keep up is by watching ads (1 ad = 1000 Stardust and 1 Star; You can watch 1 ad roughly every 5 minutes; Limited to 10 ads per hours.) and then exchanging the Stardust for Stars.
So recently they shut the exchanges down, but are still releasing shop items that are limited edition and that cost a lot of stars, even though there's no realistic way to afford those items. And I understand that people aren't entitled to these items! The problem is that they are literally impossible to get now unless you're spending real fucking money on this dress-up game. I mean, they've released 90. Ninety. Limited sets since Feb 14th alone, all of which are extremely expensive and unaffordable. The vast majority of which cost over 100 stars, some of which cost over 700 Stars. And these will all become unavailable after a month. (You can even see that a lot of them are already "on sale" because nobody can fucking afford them.)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Because the motto of Everskies seems to be: Fuck your playerbase, they don't need to have a good time!

Make sure that your broker is not fake or unreliable, to avoid losing investment. Ensure that your needs fit the profile of your broker as well, in order for you to have a good working relationship. When trading, keep in mind why you are doing it. It could be anything from not having anything better to do to learning how to trade and make big profits. Whatever the case may be, keep it in mind and it can help you set both your objectives and your schedule. If you trade in forex markets, don't be afraid to use your account tools in your personal life. For example, if you are planning an overseas vacation, use your analytical tools to plot the value of that currency. In this way, you could see dates when it would be better or worse to take that vacation in terms of exchange rate. If you need to make money to pay your bills you shouldn't be trading forex. There is a lot of risk involved with forex trading. It is something you should do with unencumbered money that isn't needed elsewhere in your budget. If you are trading to make your mortgage payment, you will end up losing your shirt. When trading, keep your profits open and running. This entails leaving your market open as long as you're profiting. Before doing this, make sure you have a good exit strategy for when the tides turn so that you don't lose what you received. Try running more than one open market and closing earlier ones so that you can continue earning through the newer ones and avoid losses by the older ones. If you do not have patience then forex is not the right type of investment opportunity for you. Becoming a very good trader takes a pretty long time to accomplish and most do not master it for many years, so if you want a get rich quick system then this is not it. hi! could u pls write how kuroo, bokuto, semi and oikawa would react to going to the beach with their gf and teammates and getting jealous when everyone’s staring at her in bikini?💖
Kuroo, Bokuto, Semi, and Oikawa When Their Teammates are Staring at Their S/O on the Beach
hey!!! i hope you enjoy these ♡ even though you said girlfriend, all of them ended up being gender neutral!
Tumblr media
Kuroo Tetsurou
He's used to people admiring you from afar, and actually he takes pride in the fact that he managed to snag someone who's just all around perfect in his eyes, so he’s never outright confronted just anyone he sees looking at you (that is, as long as they don’t appear to want to harm you in any way because you’re still his precious baby, no matter what)—at most putting a protective arm around you and pulling you to his chest, or giving you a kiss while staring at the other person dead in the eye until they look away, a playful smirk on his lips.
Sort of a “they can look but can’t touch sort of deal”—although that's mainly because he knows the second anyone looks at you funny you're the one ready to tell them off, not him.
He's had to stop you his fair share of times from starting something in public because you thought someone was scrutinizing you too closely. However, even for all the times Kuroo knows you can look out for yourself, he can't help but turn up his protectiveness in certain situations.
A beach day to boost team morale (read as: an excuse to skip out on practice on yet another hot, sticky summer day)—that was the official description of the situation you now found yourself in.
After dealing with quite a few whines of "Babe, come on, it'll be fun," from Kuroo, you eventually caved, bidding farewell to your wonderfully air conditioned bedroom for the day.
As the team had arrived, Lev and Yaku went straight to work getting a volleyball game set up (beach volleyball? yes); Kenma found himself sitting on the towel he had spread under a beach umbrella, game in hand; and everyone else was focused on their own activities, getting everything ready for the day of fun.
That left you and Kuroo standing next to each other, surveying the work of the others.
You felt a tug on the end of your shirt and looked down at the hand that had grabbed the fabric, following the curve of the toned arm upwards with your eyes until your sight landed on Kuroo's grinning face. "Come on, you're not going to keep this on all day, are you?" He gave it another small tug for emphasis and then released it. "You know, overheating can cause your body to-"
“Yeah, yeah, I get it, Tets.” You already knew he was about to go off on one of his science tangents again—how he could still think about that sort of thing even in this heat was a miracle in and of itself.
Now that he had mentioned it, you realized you were hot. Acutely aware of the unconformable sticking off your clothing to your skin, you quickly moved to shed the extra layers, shimmying out of them and revealing the bathing suit you had worn underneath.
At the same time, Lev came over to ask Kuroo a question about setting up the volleyball net. "Hey, can you help with the poles? Yaku won't let me near them, but between you and me, I don't think he's strong enough to push them down into the sand himself. I swear that thing is about to blow over and-"
Of course at that moment you had been pulling your shirt over your head, leaving you in only your bathing suit. The sound of Lev talking had been muffled when the shirt passed over your ears so you weren't sure who it was at first, but now that you were free of the clingy clothing, you noticed him and gave him a small smile.
You were confused though because it seemed as soon as you were able to hear properly again, he had stop speaking—and that was because he had, sentence caught in his throat because he hadn't been expecting you to do that. He hadn't even noticed you standing next Kuroo at first so it was a bit of a shock to now be suddenly facing you like this.
You looked up at Kuroo, curious about why he wasn't saying anything either, and found him staring at Lev intently.
It seemed that Kuroo had decided the other boy's gaze had lingered a second too long, even though only a short moment had passed and Lev was more so giving you a surprised glance than a leering stare.
Kuroo crossed his arms. "Lev?"
“Yeah?” Lev seemed to straighten up at the mention of his name and quickly tore his eyes away from you to give Kuroo his full attention once again.
Watching the exchange, you could see Kuroo lips curl up into a smirk. "Remember what I said about you needing to do more receiving practice?"
Lev's expression fell instantly, eyes widening. "Wait-"
Kuroo glanced over Lev's shoulder towards where Yaku was still trying to set up the volleyball net and called out to him. "Yo, Yaku! I have something I need you to do."
Once Yaku dropped the poles he had been wrestling with into the sand and came jogging over to the three of you, you were pretty sure you saw Lev's spirit leave his body.
Tumblr media
Bokuto Koutarou
King of getting-distracted-because-Kuroo-challenged-him-to-a-sand-wrestling-match-(whatever that means)-and-Akaashi-and Kenma-were-betting-on-them-(using seashells as currency because the rules of the real world don’t apply on the beach).
It was meant to be a Fukurodani beach day but somewhere along the way Nekoma had caught wind of the invitation and now here they were (everyone knew it was Bokuto who had revealed the plan to Kuroo but they were too scared to confront him, lest he get depressed at being called out and go running off somewhere on the beach, wanting to be alone—no one could handle organizing a search party for the giant expanse of the beach to look for him right now so they just let him be).
You were used to Bokuto’s overexcited nature though and couldn’t help but grin at seeing him run off with his friends, him giving you a kiss on your forehead (that was more so a peck with how fast it was) with a quick, “I’ll be back soon, babe!” before he was off.
Dating Bokuto meant you were well acquainted with his “best bro’s” team and you easily took up hanging out with a few of the Nekoma and Fukurodani members, Yukie and Kaori at your side.
At some point Yukie and Kaori seemed to have grown bored being on land and watching the boys splashing around in the water without them, so they asked if you’d like to join them for a dip in the ocean.
You agreed easily, wanting to cool off yourself off—the shade of the giant umbrella you were sitting under hadn't done much to fight off the heat that hung thick in the air, and laying down on the blanket you had spread was definitely less than comfortable than being able to lounge on your bed at home.
You followed Yukie’s and Kaori’s lead when they stood up to shrug off their cover-ups. You did the same, untying the thin wrap you had been wearing and leaving you only in your swimsuit.
The sight of Yukie, Kaori, and you walking together towards the water definitely had heads turning, but Bokuto, with his back to the action, barely noticed until Kuroo pointed it out to him.
Once the three of you got closer to the shoreline, some of the boys who had been splashing around before came out of the water to meet you halfway and you fell into conversation with them—that is, until you were suddenly shoved out of the way.
Stumbling a bit, you regained your footing after a moment and found yourself facing none other that Bokuto's back—he had pushed you behind him and now had his hands on his hips in a protective stance in a face-off against the guys you had been talking to.
He had a whole protective spiel he gave them while trying to be your knight in shining armor, but of course the other guys gave up pretty easily because, honestly, the goal here was to just keep Bokuto from falling into a depressive state (once again, beach rescue missions were not on the agenda for today). Bokuto seemed pretty satisfied with their response though and once he had gestured for them to go away because he was here to protect you now, you had to make sure to hide your smile behind your hand when he whirled around to face you. Instead, you provided him with his well deserved praise.
"Woo! The ace strikes again!" He did a fist pump and then grabbed your arm, taking off in a sprint.
"Wait, Bokuto-" You were struggling to keep up with him as he ran ahead and once you realized he was heading towards the ocean, you unsuccessfully tried to pry your arm from his grip.
"Swimming time!"
You two splashed into the water with one final tug from him and you stumbled on the shifty sand, softened by the water, shivering at the sudden feeling of the tide as it raised around your legs as you moved deeper. Yukie and Kaori had already gotten into the water on their own and now they snuck up on you and started splashing you with water.
The rest of the day was definition of fun, and Bokuto continuously switched between sticking to your and loudly going around proclaiming how much he loved you. It seems like the "incident" from before was a much needed confidence booster for him and the others let him have this victory for now because as a result he had also spontaneously volunteered to treat everyone out to ice cream once you all were winding down for the day—sun low in the sky as each person started to pack up—so really everyone was a winner here.
Tumblr media
Semi Eita
It was Tendou's idea that the team should take a trip to the beach and Ushijima agreed, but only because he wanted to play beach volleyball. Ushijima’s approval obviously got Goshiki on board and one by one the rest of the team slowly gave in, and of course that meant you were coming too.
Everyone started setting up their own towels, umbrellas, and beach chairs, so Eita wasn't at your side for the first few minutes of the get-together aside from when he had greeted you earlier with a kiss to the forehead.
He was rummaging around in his bag for sunscreen when Shirabu came up to him.
"Hm?" Semi was confused to see the shadow that was cast over him while he was kneeling on his blanket and turned to see what it was that was blocking the sun, finding his teammate standing there. "Oh, what do you need?" Semi stood from his crouched position, crossing his arms as he listened to Shirabu speak.
While he was doing that, you had already finished laying out your things and stood up with a content sigh, hands on your hips as you looked proudly upon your work. Now all that was left was to actually go have some fun on the beach. First order of business was to kick off your casual clothes and tuck them away safely into your bag so sand didn't get on them.
By the time you had done that, only taking a few minutes, Semi was still talking with Shirabu and you bounced over to the two, slipping your hand into Semi's. "Ready to go?" you asked him, impatient with how long they were taking.
The sight of you instantly had him beaming and he squeezed your hand in reply. "Yeah, just a sec."
You playfully rolled your eyes and released his hand, telling him to catch up to you whenever he was done, and went over to talk with Goshiki while he set up Tendou's umbrella for him (no doubt the redhead had told him it would make him a better ace and who was Goshiki to question his upperclassmen).
Semi watched you go, his gaze lingering on you, before he crossed his arms again and turned back to finish off his conversation with Shirabu. However, he found the other boy still looking over at you. Semi felt his eyebrow twitch. "Earth to Shirabu, hellooo?" He hit him on the upside of his head and Shirabu went reeling back, rubbing at the sore spot.
"Hey! What was that for?"
Rather than say anything, Semi just tilted his head in your direction as an indication.
"What? Oh-" Shirabu followed Semi's gaze to you and shook his head in disbelief. "Don't tell me you thought I was..." His sentence trailed off in the middle because one look at Semi had confirmed that he had, in fact, thought that Shirabu was checking you out. "Oh, come on, Semi. Have a little bit more faith in me?"
Semi cocked an eyebrow. "Then what were you looking at?"
"Well, Goshiki seems to be really struggling with that umbrella, are you sure he's going to be okay?"
A look back at said first year confirmed that he was, in fact, struggling. Semi squinted, trying to make out the scene in front of him. "Wait, is that Tendou's extra large beach umbrella? Didn't I tell him not to bring that anymore?" You were trying to help Goshiki wrestle the umbrella into place—a difficult feat with the wind blowing and with the pure size of the umbrella.
As if to top everything off, a pair of seagulls could be spotted circling overhead and when one of them moved to dive towards Goshiki, Semi tensed up and then took off running towards you two, Shirabu in tow.
"Will someone, please just call Ushijima over already?"
Goshiki’s screams were already racketing through the air as he crouched low to the sand, hands thrown up around his head as the seagulls pecked at him. "Leave me alone! The tuna sandwich in my pocket is mine!"
Tumblr media
Oikawa Tooru
As soon as you get to the beach, he’s showing you off and teasing the rest of the team about how he's dating someone so cute while most of the others can barley look at an attractive person without getting flustered (Kindaichi), but at the same time hiding you from their view because he doesn’t think they deserve to see you looking like that??? Getting mixed signals here, Tooru.
You manage to shake him off at some point and he’s pouting as you run away from him, just wanting to get some peace and quiet so you can eat ice cream and build sandcastles, until Iwaizumi steps in and drags Oikawa away.
“Don’t worry about him, I’ll take care of it,” Iwaizumi says over his shoulder, not even bothering to take his eyes off of the the direction he's heading in. You had sought refuge by hiding behind Makki and Mattsun when Oikawa was chasing you around, and now the three of you fell into a fit of laughter at Oikawa's expense at the sight of the scene in front of you.
It's still grinning that Mattsun invites you to spend the rest of the day with him and Makki instead, citing the fact that you deserve a much needed break form your clingy boyfriend. You agree and they decide as the first order of business that you three should build a sandcastle. A singular collective sandcastle eventually turns into a sandcastle competition with the three of you each building your own (somehow you manage to rope Kunimi into judging with the promise that you'll stop bothering him after that), which then turns into burying Makki under the sand.
You're putting the final touches on the sand mermaid tale you had given Makki (per his request of course), when Mattsun suggests you two go take a dip in the ocean and leave Makki for high tide.
"Yeah, that sounds like a good idea!" Makki is nodding his head along with you two until he remembers that he's buried under a mountain of sand and the meaning of the words sinks into his mind. "Wait-"
While Makki wallows in distress over that statement and you two ignore his futile struggles as he squirms under the sand and tries to get out (Mattsun had packed the sand tightly around him so you might as well give up while you're ahead Makki—there's no escape), you consider the proposition, eyeing the sand that's sticking to you all over your arms, hands, and legs from kneeling down and building with it.
It seems like a good idea because you've been playing in the sand the whole time, so this would be the perfect opportunity to wash all of that off. Also, what good is a little time at the beach without a dip in the ocean?
And with that in mind, you nod to Mattsun and bid Makki farewell, leaving him to his fate. Just as you're about to walk off and follow Mattsun, his long strides taking him ahead of you in only a matter of seconds, you remember that you still have your beach wrap on.
"Oh, Makki, here. Watch this for me, will you?" You undid the wrap and moved to drape it over a nearby rock so it wouldn't be left in the sand.
"Uh, sure."
You thought his tone sounded pretty weird and when you turned to him, you found that he wasn't looking at you, but rather at Mattsun, the two sharing a collective glance that definitely looked like they were planning something.
"I give it at least three minutes."
"Three? Two minutes tops."
You were about to open your mouth to ask them what in the world they were talking about when you were cut off by a high pitched yelp.
"(Y/N)!!!" You could recognize that whiny voice anywhere and the familiar arms that wrapped around you confirmed your suspicions. "I knew I shouldn't have left you alone, who knows what would have happened if I haven't come in time."
"Tooru- mfph- Tooru, let me go-," you attempted to get out, voice muffled and your face being squished into his chest.
"Woah, that wasn't even a minute."
"A new personal record."
You could hear Makki and Mattsun exchanging remarks of surprise at your boyfriend's quick appearance and you realized what this was about.
You groaned. "Tooru, I'm fine." You squirmed out of his grasp enough that you could peek your head out and craned your neck, spotting Kunimi laying on a towel under an umbrella with sunglasses on, having ran off to there after he had finished judging the sandcastle competition, and Iwaizumi next to him, reclining on a beach chair in the shade and snoozing away—so that's how Oikawa managed to escape.
It took a while to pry Oikawa off of you with how jealous he was being with others seeing you like that, but you managed to do it—Mattusn and Makki placed bets on how long they thought it would take (Makki ended up winning—as his prize, he forced Mattsun to dig him out of the sand because he was still scared of you guys leaving him for high tide).
Tooru was overall extra clingy for the rest of the day, which was saying a lot for him, and was especially so when Mattsun bought you ice cream later (in retaliation, Oikawa bought you two more, despite your protests that there was no way you could possibly finish all of them).

There would be no other day like today. Where time is precious, when moments come to be lost forever, you cannot allow yourself to pass up any more. You will not. You will pull on your tattered coat, dust off your saddle shoes and hush your stationed horses—ssh, not today; when a day rears close on its anxiety-driven metal wheels, then the appreciation of serenity is in order.
Today, the doors will glide instead of creak. The floor will come hardened instead of splintered. You will climb upon a new form of transportation, and ride it from the wilderness-shrouded cabin you call your home. Your heart will beat fast, your mind will think of nothing but everything. But you will learn to enjoy it.
Except...there is a man sat in front of you. The train rode in from Nowhere to the East, and inside, when you climbed aboard, there was no one except you and this man. He hummed to himself, wrapped his lips around wordless lyrics. His gaze flickered from the trees whizzing behind you to the fabric of your clothes, the split soles on your shoes. You tried to keep your face stoic, like you weren’t also comparing the quality difference between you and what a respectable human should look like. Your chest squeezed, heart beating fast in a way you did not enjoy.
This...this was a mistake. A backwoods-born vagrant like you had no business crawling where the affluent passed. You had half a mind to leap from your seat then and there, to exit the train by any means necessary. It had already dragged you miles from the point of your home, but you knew with your lack of expertise, you could make it anywhere.
The thought of leaping—of standing to attention—however, seemed to bring shame in a way you hadn’t felt in a long time. You were constantly wracked with all layers of guilt and humility, but they wrapped themselves around you in the comfort of your own home. You were alone to quell them. You were alone to indulge in them.
Now, all you could do was keep your head down and pray that your presence didn't bother more oncoming passengers. Soon, you were barricaded on all sides by strangers, those who jumped on to jump off. You didn't dare to bring your gaze on any of them, mentally blocked out their conversations in case any of them were directed towards you, involved you.
This was fine, you supposed. You could handle this.
You could handle keeping your eyes locked to your shoes, minding others as they walked passed. You'd feel the train shutter to a stop every so often, and patterns would disappear from your sight. Sounds grew quieter. You could breath again.
Until, a pair of shoes seemed to step directly in front of you. They didn't move until you forced yourself to look back up and—no.
The same man from before stood before you. You wanted to flee right then and there, but he held up a palm as though he read your thoughts. From his pocket, he pulled out a couple of crisp bills.
You stared at him, and he nudge them forward as the train's robotic intercom announced its next destination. Silent and slow, you grabbed the money from his hand.
He nodded with a smile, and that expression sent shivers down you. You watched as he bounded off the train, the train doors closing immediately after.
The train jerked and rumbled and left the station and man behind.
--
The next time you got on the train, you went for medicine.
You had scrounged up some antiques you had no more use for, and planned to visit any ol’ pawn shop you might come across. You had trouble gauging the worth of your properties. You might come out with more than enough or come out too short. You had already made peace with the possibility of both. Though in your heart, you desperately hoped for the former. But you couldn’t waste your time mulling over such minute details like that. You’d since learn to count your blessings as they came, to face the present and only the present.
And presently, a familiar face stared at you from across the train cart.
Dressed as prim and proper as ever, the same man from before whistled a pleasant melody from his seat. You grew uncomfortable, though you were surrounded and—not so—hidden by others. You couldn’t be sure he was staring at you, right?
You glanced down at your attire. Luckily, you didn’t look so dingy as you usually did. A new longcoat, bright yet blending well within the crowd, and you felt really proud about it. It was a treat. You’d figured holding onto currency that meant nothing to you would be a waste. He had given it to you for a reason, certainly.
Though you knew, begrudgingly, that any such sort of generosity came at the price of your image, your non-existent reputation. You would’ve—should’ve!—felt shame then. But…
You brought your gaze up to meet his. He seemed to trace his eyes over other parts of your body. He looked...contemplative. Again, you should have averted your eyes in shame. But your heart fluttered.
You didn’t feel judged.
--
Logically, you knew exactly what you were feeling. You knew exactly how childish your emotions were.
You left the train before he did, at the first sign of urbanization. Didn’t matter where you were, as long as you found the shops you were looking for. You walked into a pawn shop, bartered, betted, auctioned, and came out with what you hoped was adequate.
Rationally, you knew where you should have stopped at first. You knew exactly how foolish you were when you walked into an entertainment shop instead. One where they sold books and DVDs and music. You walked past the humming shoppers, strained an ear to see if you could catch an accustomed tune. You didn’t linger for long. Indulging in these feelings were dangerous. You set your eyes on the first book cover that caught your attention.
A man and a woman, coiled around each other in an embrace you’d never seen before. It had a title, perhaps an author, but it didn’t matter. You rung it through the cashier and stuffed it in your coat pocket before you could mentally process the cost. You’ll deal with the guilt at home.
--
It helped. A bit.
What didn't help—and you were quick to realize—was that your literacy was entirely not up to par. You struggled through words, lost the plot on many occasions.
You looked to your bookshelf filled with thick and vibrant spines, some bent, some peeling and revealing the aged yellow pages underneath. But none of them were yours, well, had been yours.
Your mother had spent years fretting over instructing you to read, count, and learn many skills that could get you by in life. And petulant you had refused her attempts to fool around instead. The horses won't know how to read, why should you?
You swallowed a lump in your throat. She was gone and you had no one but you to force yourself through these pages.
--
The next time you hopped on the train, you were shocked to see that the same man wasn't there. It was you and a cart full of empty seats and a handful of passengers.
In a way, this was the best possible outcome for you.
Taking a seat, you got to reading. It had gotten slightly easier for you, you were now able to get the gist of the passages every few paragraphs or so. The main couple seemed to be enthralled by each other, proclaiming their love for one another through stubborn and rebellious actions.
You yourself fell lost to their world, didn't even notice when someone found a place to sit right next to you. The jingle of jewelry caught your attention.
You will never not be awestruck by his presence.
The man's gaze fell to the book in your hands and you were too late to hide the cover once you realized what he was looking at. You grew warm when a smirk wormed its way onto his face.
No words were passed between you. Time went on in silence as the train rode closer and closer to your destination.
It felt a bit too comfortable to you. To be sat next to a man who seemed to exude such confidence and stability. It seemed uncanny that someone of his ilk would be fine to be near you, even more so when that someone also deems it alright to offer you a snack.
You blinked up at him as he extended his treat, his eyes focused on yours. It slowly came to you that this was the first time you had ever heard him speak.
You were struck by the warm chords of his voice! It sounded even more beautiful than the choruses he chanted under his breath. You didn’t know what to say, and in the wake of his own, you felt compelled to keep the sound of your voice a secret. Here, you had no idea what sounded normal and whether you did or did not. You never paid attention to the chatter around you, never spoke when spoken to. It hadn’t occurred to you that you might sound cacophonic to others.
So all you could do was nod. A tight smile on your lips while his grew. He broke off a piece and handed it to you, and you took great care to avoid the tips of his fingers—out of respect for him, of course. He watched as it met your lips; you almost squealed at the taste of it! A sweetness that couldn’t be found in the straw-or-blueberries of your gardens. It was dark, yet tasted light.
You felt silly for having such a strong reaction to something so small, especially under that strong gaze of his. But the edges of his eyes crinkled as he observed you. He broke off more pieces, gave them to you, and didn’t stop until all that was left was a shiny wrapper that he crumpled and shoved into his pocket.
The exchange ended there. He stood up, hung on tightly to the railing as the train jerked into its station. You thought that was it, and was ready to dive back into the book that was currently sliding off the edge of your lap. Then, he tapped you on your shoulder.
He pulled his hood over his head with a smile and said, “I’m Sunwoo.”
--
Sunwoo. Sunwoo.
You thought of carving that name into the plaque fixed over your room’s bed, somewhere private and personal. If only you knew how to spell it…
You could sound it out—S-U-H-N-W-U—but...something about that felt a bit...off. You were running out of things to sell. Pretty soon you might become one of those rowdy vendors that sold… aged vegetables to the people. That wasn’t to say you had no more belongings worth a coin. But even a woodlands-frolicker like yourself held sentimentality for some things.
Your horses for that matter. Betty and Jackson were pretty much useless at this point, replaced by a machine that raced faster than the trees around you when you rode on their backs. But you promised to yourself that you would die with them, if it ever came down to it.
Your hut was filled to the ceiling with tiny, wooden trinkets and clothing that would require a dream to fit you. Some of them were old children’s pajamas and riding gear. The others belonged to your mother. They were stitched over in cobwebs at this point—the dresses and shawls of your mother. Some part of you itched to bury them next to her, but… you weren’t sure if you were ready to say goodbye to your past just yet.
You hesitated on saying goodbye at all.
You don’t have to say anything, do anything. You were taught to face the present and expect the future.
The train should be arriving any time now. For a while, you had gauged where the train tracks went. From your cabin, growing up you had wondered what could bring such a violent ruckus. The trees did well to muffle the sounds of animalistic pain and anger, sorrowful songs, and cheerful bleating. You would only ever hear such noise when it came near to you. Young you would sprout through your front door to investigate. You had made many natural acquaintances this way.
The first time you had heard the raucous sound of a steam whistle you were struck by a terrifying sense of grief and unsettlement. It was unlike any sound you’d ever heard—too savage, the sound of pent up hunger or fear. You remembered rushing to your mother, heart beating so loud you could barely hear your own speech. Confusion filled you when she grinned; that cheeky grin she had whenever it was prime time for a joke, or a white lie about what lurked beyond the forest.
“That’s a train,” she had said, “it picks up lost travelers and takes them places that never spell out anything good. Best to avoid them.”
Dear mother... you prayed that she wouldn’t find out what went on in your head. You knew your surroundings so well you could navigate with your eyes closed. But, still, you couldn't deny just how utterly lost you were without her guidance.
You closed your eyes and clutched your head.
The train tracks were only west from here.
--
It came too early. It whizzed by. The vibrations gripped you by the bones and you nearly fell onto your back. Your legs were trembling for a whole other reason. The tears in your eyes swelled but didn’t spill for someone else. You kept them locked on the windows, hoping for that one other face you knew. Maybe he’d see you, and he’d mime words and pleas that you might change your mind and back out.
The train was gone and all you caught was your own face, and the deflation in which you realized.
--
The next time you hopped on the train you were carrying boxes upon boxes. Your cabin was effectively empty.
You prayed that you wouldn’t happen across Sunwoo this time. In fact, you had made the conscious decision of picking a different cart to ride in this time. You didn’t want him to see you like this, face blotchy as a homeless man in winter. You hugged the boxes closer to you, breathed in their woody scent. If all went according to plan, you would meet Sunwoo as a new person, for just a moment, like all the moments before. You would leave an impression on him as strong as his to you. All those fleeting memories from before would vanish and be replaced by something magnificent.
If you had Sunwoo’s musical talent, you would present to him your swan song and it would be half as beautiful as him.
You had even written him a letter to make up for all the silent conversations you had until now. Reading over it you could scarcely make out your own handwriting, and it was filled with eraser marks and misspellings (though you had double checked using your book as reference). But despite it all, it was enough.
And yet, when it came down to it, you found yourself more choked up than usual. You said nothing when Sunwoo found his spot beside you, said nothing when he asked how you were.
“I saw you...by the train tracks,” He looked more than concerned. “You were looking unwell.”
Rather than looking poor or unkempt, a small victory.
“I probably won’t be able to relate to anything you might’ve experienced." A truth that hurt more than you thought it would. “But...you could still talk about it, if you want…?”
Sunwoo paused, expecting a response from you. But what could you do? Your throat was clogged up by an invisible force. It hurt to talk almost as much as much as it hurt to breath. You would have nothing of substance to say even if it didn't. Nothing worth hearing.
Sunwoo inhaled deeply, thoughtfully. He looked at you again.
“I’ll listen,” and he folded his headphones in his lap.
--
Your days were filled with music now. Not only the sounds that would drip from Sunwoo’s lips, but from the speakers lodged just overhead. You bobbed your head to the tune as shoppers weaved in and out of the store.
The sun was going down, and it was a sight you could finally admire without lines of trees blocking your view. You tallied your stocks and were getting ready to head home. Your boss tipped his hat as he came out of the storage room, Sunwoo following close by. He was distracted by a small box in his hands. Despite that, the store keys jingled in his other hand as he tapped his finger along to the song playing. You smiled.
“Still unpacking the supplies?”
Sunwoo looked up at your voice, then a small smile graced his lips.
“Nah, just grabbing something special before I forget.”
“Special?” Your eyebrows shot up at that. A terribly restrained snicker came from your boss at the corner of the room. “Did you order a new sound board?”
To be truthful, you had no idea what a sound board was, and the box Sunwoo was holding seemed much too small to carry a board of any kind. But your knowledge of technology was expectedly limited, and you shared the same eagerness to learn such intricacies with your new boyfriend.
Your heart stuttered at the thought. A boyfriend. B-o-y f-r-i-e-n-d—and yours, at that! You had no idea such a thing existed when you were a kid. Sharing conversations with your new coworkers revealed that such themes—dating and lovers, and with that, flirting and protecting—were dreams and goals set since childhood.
The book from months ago was your first introduction to this . You thought it fiction at first, much like the fables and cautionary tales your mother imbued in you since birth. You knew what love was, of course, you knew what marriage was, too, despite its absence in your life. But all that led up to it might have been some impromptu decision, for all little-you was aware.
Yet here you were, dancing in the little steps it took to get to that point. It still didn’t feel real. You had already gone through the custom of dates more than several times, had already felt his lips on yours, had already felt what it was like to grasp his body in a hug. And yet, it still did not feel real.
You felt like you were floating when Sunwoo looked into your eyes. When Sunwoo pulled your hand into his and led you out the front store doors, you felt fifteen times lighter.
“This is for you,” He said, presenting the same box in his hand to you. You took it. It was incredibly light. Whatever was inside must be fragile. “Open it when you get home.”
“I can’t open it right now?” You grinned mischievously and reached for the slits of the box as though you were planning on tearing it open before him. He didn’t react, just looked at you with fond eyes and shrugged.
“I think you’d appreciate it more if you opened at your house,” He waved at your boss as he passed through, then locked the store doors behind him. He took your hand in his again and led you towards the train station. “S’not just any ol’ gift. I spent a lot of money on commissioning it.”
As he’d always done, even when you began dating and were no longer the same financially as you were before. Not since he had convinced his boss to bring on a new employee. No longer did you have to dig behind your cupboards to find something to sell for a pretty coin. No, actually your home had slowly became replenished. This gift won’t be the only one lining your shelves.
You expressed your gratitude once your stop arrived. You kissed him, savored the feel and taste of his lips, and hugged him goodbye.
You were more than excited to unravel the gift. Your horses greeted you by the stables. The silence of the forest was disturbed by your thrashing. You gave yourself no time to relax in the comfort of your own home. You cut through the tape and retrieved Sunwoo’s present with an anxious heart.
This was it:
A figurine. One with an idle person, kneeled on verdant grass, encircled by a small family of deer. A doe and her fawn. The person reaches out to the infant deer, pets it with the edges of their fingers while the larger mother looks on.
The sight of it made you cry.
-
Everything sounds louder when you’re alone in the wilderness.
Sunwoo’s screams were no exception.
“It’s okay,” you said, holding a bundle of radishes by the stem. Your horse Jackson nibbled on them in peace, but your Sunwoo thought anything but. He cowered behind you, keeping an eye on the horse while he waved away buzzing mosquitoes and other insects. “He’s not gonna hurt you.”
“Horses are predators disguised as prey,” He shrieked, “And I don’t fall for their act one bit! He seems gentle now but I heard those teeth can crush all the bones in your hand.”
“Yeah, if you stuck your hand in his mouth,” you took his hand as you said this. Forcibly passing the vegetables to Sunwoo, you slowly wrapped your hands around his. Carefully, you maneuvered him in front of you and in front of Jackson, who only sniffed his knuckles in response. Gently, “Do this.”
You felt Sunwoo’s breathing on your skin, hurried. Yet, he complied, bringing his hand up to the horse's mouth. He gasped when he felt his lips brush against him, but seemed more awestruck when Jackson daintily worked his teeth over the leaves.
When you felt it was right, you let him go and sat nearby on the stone steps to your house. What should have been a moment to relax, instead your heart seemed to be trying to beat its way out of your chest. You were home and you were with Sunwoo. The place that held your fondest memories and the place that spurned you in your darkest times.
There was more than confliction when you thought of this place.
This was your home, the one and only place you could truly call safe. For the majority of your life, this was all you knew. And yet, you grew to be ashamed of your living space, once mother vanished and you were left to discover that you were the anomaly, not the “travellers.” (In the end, you became one yourself.)
You learned to move past that oddly rooted self-pity. But some of it still lurked. Especially now, with Sunwoo steps away from welcoming himself into your personal space.
You still only had a vague idea of what ‘looking presentable’ meant. Your coworkers would dust off knicks-and-knacks and giggle about how ‘dated’ some looked. Such words meant nothing to you. That is, until you brought home a city-raised boy. Then, suddenly they meant everything.
But there were times Sunwoo never passed judgement on you, though he was well within his right to.
You looked back at Sunwoo to see that he’d warmed up to Jackson. The horse gobbled down the last of the radishes, and neighed happily in his direction. Sunwoo’s cheeks bunched up in a giddy smile. You noted, as he ran his hand up and down Jackson’s side, that he shared the same gentleness with him as he did with you.
You got up from your seat and reached your boys. Sunwoo looked at you when you pulled his hand into yours, a smile on your face.
“Ready to go inside?”
--
Tea was drained. Snacks were set and wolfed down and Sunwoo’s lips were on yours.
There were many things you were feeling, many thoughts crossed your mind as he pulled you close to his body while you savored his heat. He smelt good, felt better, but above all, he was sweet. Sweeter than chocolate, sweeter than any berry you could ever hope to pluck.
It had been two years since you had met on the train. Two years since you thought you had made your final decision. Now you could look back at the past with pitiful fondness.
“You know, when I first saw you I thought you were a prince of some kind,” you huffed when you pulled back. You made note of the color of his cheeks and lips, how glossy they were up close. “In fact I thought everyone around me were nobles.”
“You…” He began, but paused to smile. “I won’t lie, I was intrigued by you. The train that runs past here is pretty remote, so I knew pretty much every face that boarded and departed that thing. Then you came, and you certainly weren’t from town.”
His hand began combing through your hair, gently untangling the knots and twirling at the ends. “Didn’t know where you came from or were planning to go, and apparently neither did you. You were lost and I was curious and hoped that maybe we’d get off at the same stop. Then mine came and you were still sitting there and I thought, man, if this is the only time we cross then I’d like to at least do this person one thing, do this one favor, and hope for the best.”
You hummed. Hearing that felt nice. Feeling him on you was nice. Sunwoo then pressed a warm kiss onto your forehead.
“Karma certainly worked itself out for me.”

“Fred, you are a right foul git!” cursed Ron as he chased after the twin.
“Ron’s in love!” Fred bellowed as he held a crumpled photograph in his hand. Before Ron carelessly pounced on Fred, the twin passed the photograph to the other half of his whole, George.
George uncrumpled the photograph to take a good look at it, “In love is Ron!” George recrumpled the photograph into a ball and threw it back at Fred, making Ron the monkey in the middle.
Ron jumped and jumped, unable to catch the crumpled polaroid as his brothers threw it around. Fred made the mistake of passing it to Ginny, who was caught off-guard, allowing Ron to snatch it from her hands.
“Now, look at it! It’s unsalvageable!” Ron exclaimed at the polaroid. There was a fold right across the center, discoloring that part of the photograph.
“Are you not a wizard, little brother?” Said Fred.
Ron was, of course, just not adept or knowledgeable enough to fix the muggle object.
“Does it look like I’d know a spell to fix this? This is the only thing I have to remember her by!” Ron bellowed in anger. Fred and George merely snickered at him.
“You make very funny faces.” George said to him, mimicking the last conversation Ron had with you.
The teasing started the first day the Weasleys decided to take a muggle-led tour of the famed pyramids in Egypt at Arthur’s request (demand, actually). The family tried very hard to fit into the muggle-led tour group, which to their credit, they did quite well. Arthur kept his little quips at bay–with much help from Molly and Bill. Percy droned on about his guesses for Head Boy (guesses, meaning reasons as to why he was most deserving of the role) to anyone family member within earshot. Fred and George were accompanied by Charlie, who was better accustomed to muggles due to his time in Romania. Ginny quietly observed her family. While Ron, who was holding Scabbers in his right hand and a handful of wizard sweets in his left, did not notice his untied shoelaces because he tripped over them and took a muggle girl down in the process. It was a scene out of a muggle romantic comedy–13-year-old Ron swore he fell in love the moment he and your eyes met. Scabbers scattered out of his hand at the moment of impact and as he stood up, he offered her his sticky and crumby left hand. You didn’t seem to mind, as you dusted yourself, and thanked Ron for his help. Of course, Fred and George were the primary witnesses of Ron’s unfortunate incident, as they had temporarily escaped Charlie’s watchful eye.
The second day of the muggle-led tour of the pyramids, he saw you again. He tried to steer clear of Fred and George, but he could only do much in the small space in the pyramids. Luckily, Fred and George were on a mission to seal Percy in a mummy tomb and Charlie merely watched, as he was quite amused at the whole scene. As Fred and George shoved Percy into an unknown Pharaoh’s room. Ron took this chance to talk to you as he spotted you at the front of the tour group. He looked left and right, making sure his family did not notice him and he walked to you.
“Hullo,” Ron started. You didn’t notice him, as you were transfixed on the Egyptian tombs.
Ron cleared his throat in an attempt to catch her attention and he repeated, “Hullo.”
You finally turned to him, “‘Hello,”
Oh merlin, she’s French, Ron thought, as the sound of your accent sounded like harps and the gates of heaven themselves opening. He kept himself grounded as he reminded himself that you were essentially a muggle-girl who could not understand wizard things and should he slip, it’ll be only his mother’s voice he’d have to hear.
“Er–hullo, I want to apologize, for tripping you yesterday in King Tut’s tomb yesterday.”
“Oh! There is no–what is the word–problem, thank you again–er–for, for, helping me up.” You said, fishing for the translations of the French words you knew.
By Merlin’s left tit, Ron swore up and down he was already in love with her. Her hair was shiny and soft, her eyes glittering, and lips so full. It was hard to concentrate, it was almost as though he were in a trance.
“Is it your first time in Egypt?” Ron continued. Fred and George emerged from the tomb of the unknown pharaoh, unsuccessful in their plight to banish Percy. They did not meddle with Ron’s feeble attempt at female interaction, but instead sniggered at the sight of it.
Ron himself was quite taken aback with his behavior, as he was talking to a girl–a member of the opposite sex, someone who was not his mother or his sister or Hermione. You were a pretty girl too, and this all the more heightened his nerves. Ron was exercising so much control over his words so as not to spill the secrets of the wizarding world to a 13-year-old girl that his head was spinning. The polite conversation was riddled with small talk, the normal exchanging of basic information such as names, ages, and where  you were from.
Arthur spotted Ron, eyes wide. His son, his very immature & unaccustomed-to-muggles son (relative to himself, of course), was conversing with a muggle, all while his damned broken wand was poking out of his pocket. Arthur rushed to Ron’s side, and Ron hadn’t seemed to notice–too busy ogling you. Arthur put an arm around Ron, effectively startling him.
“Good day! Might I borrow my son for a minute?” He says to you. You nod and watch Ron as he gets whisked away by his father.
Arthur didn’t know whether to scold him or egg him on–it was a muggle he was talking to! Everything he’d want to know about muggles from the perspective of a 13-year-old girl right there. Then Arthur imagined the scolding he’d get from Molly if he chose the former. So, he lectured Ron on the dangers of revealing the secrets of the wizarding world to a muggle, citing an incident he’d had recently at work when a Muggle walked in on he and his fellow co-workers during a raid.
“The obliviate charm, though quite useful, was a nasty thing to inflict onto somebody and I wouldn’t want  to do that to her.” Arthur told Ron. Ron didn’t care to listen to his father and began to imagine your face on his father’s to make the lecture more bearable. Arthur kept Ron glued to his hip the rest of the tour for the day until they made it back to Bill’s flat.
The third day was the most eventful yet, as the tour group finally had their last group lunch at an authentic Egyptian muggle restaurant. Ron took this as his last opportunity to interact with his muggle-tour-group crush and indiscreetly took a seat next to you. Unfortunately for Ron, Fred and George decided upon the seats across him and you. Ron tried so hard to talk to you, he really did, but he was worse off than yesterday. He was skidding over his words like a car whose tires popped and the steel was grinding itself across the road. Fred and George didn’t even hide the fact they were making fun of him, making kissy noises and drawing hearts in the air with their fingers. It was a miracle you ignored them, and even more of a miracle you paid attention to Ron. Your mother saw the sight and took out her polaroid camera.
“[Y/N], [Y/N]! Look at me, my love!” Your mom said as she clicked the camera, film printing from the slot. She shook it to make it develop faster. The picture was ghastly–your eyes were half-closed with a forkful of spaghetti in your mouth and Ron’s face was contorted into a cross between a sneeze and anger.
“How about another one, for good measure? Yes?” Your mother proposed. You shyly inched closer to Ron, and you swear you hear him gulp. You smile and Ron partly does the same (he was never really quite good at modulating his expressions, so now instead of a cross between a sneeze and anger, it was now fear pretending to be happy).
Your mother hands you both pictures after they’ve fully developed, and you give Ron the second one.
“I like how silly we look here,” You reasoned to him, beaming. Ron was going to explode.
“Oh yes, me too.” He replied, shaking his polaroid of the two of you to get it to move, forgetting for a moment it came from a muggle camera. You chuckle at him.
“You make very funny faces, it’s, uh, very amusing.” You mused. Ron turned red to his ears.
“You should’ve seen the faces I made when I threw up slugs!” Ron laughed, then his face straightened to a stony expression.
“Slugs?” You asked. At this point Ron was panicking and he sent a side-eye to Fred & George, who were laughing even harder than before.
“Candied slugs,” Ron managed to say quickly
“Candied slugs?” You repeated, “That sounds so, er, awful! Disgusting, yes? Why would you eat such an ‘orrible thing?”
Ron was pink to the ears.
“Well, er, candied slugs….are a delicacy?” Ron could not help but sound confused with the lie he was making up. You furrowed your brows.
“In England?” You ask.
“Only up north?” He asks with a very highlighted question mark.
“Up north?” You couldn’t wrap your head around it, who the hell ate candied slugs in England?
“It’s quite rare, might I add. Only a few mugg–” Ron stopped himself again, “people, I mean make them.”
“Really, uh, candied slugs?”
“Yes. Blimey, the feeling you when they go back up your throat!” Ron laughed, trying to keep his cool. “Well, what do you have in France? I reckon it's much better than slugs.”
You tell him about the wonders of French culture, especially about food. Ron tries very hard to ask the questions, and you answer them. Lunch ends, signalling the end of the tour. All the members of the tour group finish their food, pay their share of the bills–Arthur took his time with muggle Egyptian money as he’d never see any other muggle currency aside from the British pound. When all was said and done, everyone stood up and went their separate ways. You stood, and so did Ron.
Turning to him, you say,“It was, uh, nice to have someone my age ‘ere.” You were compelled to hug him, and you do. Ron was flushed, flustered, redder than his family’s signature red hair. His face looked like hues of red at a paint shop. Ron didn’t hug back due to shock, but you paid it no mind. You left as your mother called you to her, you skipped towards her happy to have made a friend in your time in Egypt. Ron stood there, almost in a petrificus-totalus-like state, staring at you as you walked away from him. Fred and George laughed at Ron incessantly. They made fun of him the whole walk back to Bill’s flat. Ron knew that he’d never see you again, but he resigned to replaying the last conversation you and he had.
Ron’s remaining time in Egypt saw him thinking about you endlessly, it was the most teenageric thing he’d done thus far. The rest of the weeks were spent doing usual Weasley family activities, far away from muggles now, much to Arthur’s dismay. Bill gave them tours of the tombs he’d broken curses at and the satellite Gringotts office. The vacation ended and the Weasleys were well on their way back home with Ron still thinking about you all the way to Burrow.
At the Leaky Cauldron, he told Hermione and Harry what he could about you. Harry was quite supportive of the whole escapade, while Hermione rolled her eyes and told him off as you were probably just being nice. The initial crush faded as the year progressed, but Ron still thought about you from time to time, wondering if you were enjoying home and if he’d ever run into you should he find himself in muggle France. He’d find you being the topic of conversation when he was alone with Harry–to avoid an earful from Hermione–on days where there would be nothing to talk about. He’d run through hypothetical situations and ask Harry how he should act around a muggle to not scare them off.
His last conversation with you would occasionally creep up in his mind before he’d go to bed at Gryffindor tower, smiling at the thought of it.
“Some girls really are something else,” Ron would think before drifting off to sleep, the crumpled polaroid hidden in his sock drawer.
___
Year 3 at Hogwarts came and passed, Ron made it through in one piece, now without a pesky Scabbers by his side as it was revealed to have been Peter Pettigrew. He now had longer hair, more defined features, and grew a few inches taller. Summer was eventful to say the least with his family and his two best friends going to the Quidditch world cup and it being attacked by Death Eaters. He still thought about you from time to time in passing but not as obsessively as in the 3rd year. Yours and his interaction became an anecdote–the time Ron finally talked to a girl who wasn’t family or Hermione and almost slipped the secrets of the wizarding world to. Fred and George would not let him forget.
“...This year, Hogwarts will play host to a legendary event: the Triwizard Tournament. During which time a single student gets to represent his or her school in a series of magical contests. Eternal glory awaits the student who wins the tournament.” Bellowed Dumbledore from his stand at the front of the hall. Ron was too busy working at his chicken pot pie, but picked up keywords from Dumbledore’s speech in between bites–Triwizard tournament, eternal glory. Dumbledore’s speech was interrupted by a frantic Filch running through the aisle of the Great Hall, clutching Mrs. Norris in his hands. He whispered a few words to Dumbledore, and Dumbledore continued. Ron had moved on from his chicken pot pie to the mashed potatoes drowning in the signature Hogwarts gravy.
“...For now, please join me in welcoming the lovely ladies of the Beauxbatons Academy of Magic, and their headmistress Madame Maxime!” At once, the doors of the Great Hall burst open, giving sight to the students of Beauxbatons.
Ron’s head was still down as he was basically breathing in the mashed potatoes, even though he knew that there would be plenty of mashed potatoes to go around. Seamus, sat to his left, accidentally nudged him thinking he was Dean, causing Ron to look up. Ron’s eyes immediately darted to the Beauxbatons girls who made quite an entrance with butterflies erupting from their sides. Ron was ogling them, now ignoring the mashed potatoes in front of him, his chin resting on his hand. He stared at them all, darting from girl to girl, focusing on them a few seconds each. His eyes moved down the line of girls, until he reached the last student–you.
Ron froze, not out of fear, but out of utter shock. It was you, in the flesh–the muggle girl he had tripped in King Tut’s tomb a year prior to now. Of course now, he realized you were not a muggle, but a wizard like him. You were still gracefully dancing around as rehearsed, your arms extending and flexing forward like a ballerina. Ron was still staring at you.
Hermione snapped her fingers at his face, “Excuse me! Women aren’t objects!”
“It’s her.” Ron simply stated. Hermione looked at Harry from across the table in confusion.
“Who?” Harry asked.
“D’you remember the muggle girl I kept talking about last year? She isn’t a muggle, she’s literally right there, in the flesh, prancing around, butterflies shooting out of her sides! Blimey, she’s a witch!” Ron exclaimed.
His two friends turned their heads to the front of the Great Hall, where you were bowing down. You and your fellow classmates separated among the four tables in the Great Hall, with you to the Gryffindor table. Ron was watching you the whole time until you sat at the table, only a few students away from him.
Harry was in disbelief, unwilling to believe Ron, “Merlin, Ron, are you sure?”
Fred and George noticed Ron’s awestruck face and shifted around a few fellow Gryffindors to get to their little brother.
“Georgie, it seems as though Ron has his eye on a certain French lady,” Fred starts. The twins follow Ron’s line of sight, landing on you.
“Blimey, Freddie, she looks familiar does she not?” George notices.
Fred squints, “Good god, isn’t that girl you couldn’t,”
George continues, “Wouldn’t”
Fred says, “Stop talking about?”
George connects, “Every hour,”
“Of every day, last summer to now?” finishes Fred, finally. Fred and George turn to each other in amazement, wondering how they’ll be spending the next year torturing Ron.
“Why don’t you go up to her and offer her some candied slugs then, little brother? It’s a delicacy in Northern England! Up north, yes!” George says mimicking 13-year-old Ron’s voice.
“Shove off, George,” Ron mutters as he brings his attention back down to his mashed potatoes, trying to calm himself down. He was picking at the plate with his spoon, tossing around the meal carelessly.
You were enjoying a classic Hogwarts meal of baked chicken and potatoes, while a first-year sat beside you making chit-chat. The student knew just as much as you did about Hogwarts, but you hung onto every word. A girl in front of you at you and back down at her plate. You caught her eye and you both smiled.
“‘Ello,” You say to her. She seemed to have gone as red as her hair.
“Hello,” She replied to you shyly.
“My name is [Y/N],” You say smiling at her.
The girl paused and smiled back, “I’m Ginny.”
A pause ensues.
“Sorry for, er, staring, you just seem so familiar,” Ginny says to you.
“Oh? Sorry, I do not remember you,” You say remorsefully. “It is my first time here at Hogwarts, I’ve never met anyone from here.” “It’s in the face is all,” Ginny smiles at you, before returning to her food. The Durmsrang fellows finished their introduction into the Great Hall, breathing fire and finding their places at different Hogwarts tables. A bulky Durmstrang boy finds a spot next to you, and you both exchange niceties and finish your meals.
Ron finally clears his plate of the mashed potatoes. Fred and George were recounting the events in Egypt to Lee, who was now laughing at Ron as well. Hermione finished her meal and got up, beckoning Ron to go with them, as they had classes the next day. Harry, however, was looking at Ron and back at you, shooting a look at him–like he was egging him on. Ron instead decides to get up to go back to the common rooms, and Harry, a little disappointed, follows.
The hall of students seem to finish their meals the same time as you, as one by one they leave their seats. Your fellow Beauxbaton classmates leave their seats as well, as Madame Maxime gave full permission to explore the grounds and fraternize with other Hogwarts students, so as long as they return to her by a certain period. Ginny gets up in front of you to join her other friends, and you contemplate on your next move. You get up from your table and saunter towards her.
“Uh, Ginny, yes?” You ask her, as she spins around to meet you.
“Yes, [Y/N]?” she responds neutrally.
“I would just like to say–ask, I think is a better word–if we could be friends? I know not much about Hogwarts or anything, really,” You question, “You seem very nice,”
Ginny is taken aback, but gladly obliges. She introduces you to her group of friends, and you try to keep their names in mind.
“Bloody hell,” Ron exclaims.
“What now, Ronald?” Hermione complains.
“I forgot my bloody wand in the Hall, d’you mind?” He asks her. Without waiting for a response, he runs back to the hall and spots you, Ginny, and her friends stopped to the side while groups of students pour out the hall. He freezes in place foo two reasons: (1) He is absolutely mesmerized by your face, (2) you’re talking to his little sister. He takes a few steps to where he was sat a few minutes ago and grabs his wand. He could do two things right about now–leave or make up some pathetic excuse to talk to Ginny, and by extension talk to you.
He chose the latter.
He was rehearsing all kinds of stupid excuses to talk to Ginny and veer the conversation to you.
“Ginny! Mom sent you a howler, telling you off for being annoying, I mean I could tell you that myself.”
“Ginny! Hermione says your hair looked greasy today, you should probably start a fight.”
“Ginny! Remember when you poured your heart to a diary and almost got the life sucked out of by You-Know-Who in the flesh?”
He was distracted and by the time he reaches you and Ginny and her friends, he’s stone-faced. His blood goes cold and a sweat starts to trickle on the nape of his neck.
“Hello, hello, uh,” He stammers. Ginny looks at him, in turn making you look at him. He sees you now, up close. You’ve grown a lot since that summer in Egypt. Your lips fuller, your hair longer, and you’ve grown into your features. You were sporting a paler look than you had last seen him, but he still thought you were glowing.
“Slugs–” He starts out. Ron didn’t know why he began with slugs. Ginny gives him a bizarre look and your eyes widen. It’s as though your brain was flipping through pages of memories and it finally landed on the page it was looking for–Egypt, 1993.
“It’s you!” You exclaimed. Ginny was now giving you a bizarre look. “You were the boy who ate slugs, correct?” Ron was so nervous, and he felt all his blood pooling in his face.
“What did you say then, er,– candied, yes?” Ron was silent through this, he was unaware of what to say.
Ginny’s eyes light up, as she finally put two and two together, “You’re the french muggle girl Ron went on about!”
“He went on about me?” You questioned. Ginny’s friend’s had sensed this was a conversation amongst the three of you, and left, telling her they’d meet her in the common room and left.
Ginny’s arms were now crossed against her chest, looking between you and Ron. You took off the signature Beauxbaton hat and fixed your hair, now conscious of the way you looked. Ron was too nervous to fix himself. Half his button-up was untucked and peeking from underneath his sweater, his collar was lopsided and his tie was arbitrarily knotted into a poor excuse of a windsor. He was transfixed on you, studying your features as though he were making sure that it was really you he tripped at King Tut’s tomb a year ago.
Ginny turned to her brother, and their eyes met, gesturing him to talk. Ron opened his mouth but his vocal chords refused him any vibration. You stared at him, as the gears grinded in his head.
“Er, I wouldn’t say went on about you,” Ron explained
“Wouldn’t say? Don’t lie, Ron.” Ginny said. Ron looked at her annoyedly, and Ginny smiled in return.
You smile, “Is it true you eat candied slugs here?”
Ginny chortles, “Candied slugs?”
“Is it not, uh, a delicacy? He told me that last year,” You ask, pointing to Ron
“Blimey…” Ron mutters. Ginny laughs. He reasons, “I thought you were a muggle.” You shoot him a puzzled look, “Muggle?”
“Normal, non-magic,” Ginny cuts in. Ron shoots her another look.
“Oh? Did, uh, I look not magical?” You ask jokingly.
“You were more than magical,” Ron says in a dream-like tone.
You fluster at his words and Ginny’s face turns into a disgusted look.
“I’ll leave you to it then,” Ginny says, turning her heel to exit the hall. Ron pleads at Ginny through his eyes, but she takes no notice and leaves him with you.
A pause takes you both. You recollect yourself, planning out what you want to say to Ron.
“I still have our, uh, polaroid.” You say warmly at Ron. He feels lighter, more comfortable knowing you kept the little piece of memorabilia from Egypt.
“So do I!” He exclaims, too enthusiastically. He sinks back down into composure, silently scolding himself for the unwanted burst of energy. “I thought you weren’t a witch, honestly.”
You smile, “I could see your wand.”
Ron blushes fiercely, shades of red slowly taking place on his face, soon it becomes so strong, it’s enough to rival his hair, “I-I’m sorry?”
“Your, uh, wand. It was held together, by, uh, tape.” You declare.
Ron sighed in relief, “You did?”
“Yes, it was in your back pocket the whole time, no?”
“Call me daft, I really thought no one would notice.”
“It’s why I thought you knew I was a witch,” You say. “I didn’t care to point it, er, out.”
Ron laughed humorlessly.
“Would you, er, care to show me around the castle?” You ask him. Ron inhaled deeply and his mouth crunched into himself, a habit that showed when he was nervous.
He carefully pushed a bang out of his face, before responding, “Uhm, okay.”
Ron feigns gentlemanliness, gesturing you to the exit of the hall. His feet don’t move in tune with each other, causing him to lose balance. He utters choice words, but you don’t seem to notice. You walk towards the exit and Ron is right behind you, eyeing you up and down, while whispering a strained bloody hell.
As Harry and Hermione waited for Ron at the hall doors, they were surprised to see you come out first with him on your tail. Hermione’s jaw dropped and Harry’s face lit up in approval.
“‘Ello!” You greeted them, “My name is [Y/N]!”
Harry’s eyes were wide, blinking away; Hermione scoffed in Ron’s direction. Ron merely shrugged, one of his bangs falling over his right eye. You looked back at Ron and at them, smiling. You were absolutely oblivious to the unspoken conversation the three were having amongst themselves. Ron’s head tilts in your direction, begging with Harry to say something.
“I’m Harry, Ron has told us so much about you, this here is Hermione,” Harry says, gesturing to her. Ron panics silently and makes a pained noise, causing you to look back at him. Harry is losing it and trying very hard to stay composed. Hermione is still silent, looking at you and looking back at Ron.
“Has he?” You ask Hermione and Harry.
“Oh, loads.” Says Harry simply. Ron wants to die.
“Er, why don’t we walk her around for a bit, yeah?” Ron takes you by the wrist, shuffling between Harry and Hermione. Hermione looks to Harry in disapproval, arms crossed. Harry shrugs and follows Ron.
Hermione catches up to Harry and whispers angrily, “What? Like she’s a dog?”
Hermione decides to leave the group, taking a right to the moving staircases, and she drags Harry along with her, much to his dismay. Ron was alone with you now.
The walk around the castle was quiet but you didn’t seem to mind. Ron was looking at you the whole time, looking away when you looked at him. Ron was taken back with how you were willingly donating your time to him, when you could have joined the Durmstrang boy who sat next to you during the feast. He could swear you were the most beautiful thing he’d ever seen. Though he was supposed to be leading you around Hogwarts, he was letting you lead and following you like a puppy.
You two finally stop at the courtyard, taking a seat on the grass. Ron stays standing, hands in pockets, pushing his cloak back. He’s looking around, avoiding your gaze. You catch his eye and pat the grass next to you. He cautiously sits down and assumes a long-sit. It is silent for a while, as you are basking in the moonlight. Ron is holding his breath, trying to emulate your relaxed demeanor but failing miserably.
“I think it’s important to tell you,” You start, breaking the silence, “I’m part veela.”
Ron is bewildered, “Veela?”
“I think it is why you are so nervous around me,”
“Nervous? Who said I was nervous?” He chuckles humorlessly and boomerangs back to a neutral expression. You laugh in response.
“It’s not really an, uh, intended effect. It comes with it, like how you are a wizard who does magic. Veelas attract other people very much so.”
“Oh,” Ron musters as a response. He stays silent, and so do you. It gets dark quickly, and you shoot up immediately.
“I didn’t realize how late it has gotten!” You exclaim to Ron, who stands quickly. You dust off your uniform, while Ron watches you. You’re quite the sight under the stars and Ron is absolutely lovestruck. “Madame Maxime will, as the English say, have my head.”
Ron smiles at you, unable to muster an answer as your smile is distracting and mesmerizing and simply put, beautiful. You grab his hand and pull him closer, landing a chaste kiss on his cheek.
“Thank you for bringing me around,” You whisper in a hug. As you pull away, you continue, “I hope to see you around again Don’t, uh, worry. I think I can find my way back.”
Ron is staring at you, rubbing his palm over his cheek. You giggle and walk back the same route you came. Ron is behind you again, looking you up and down again, while whispering a signature bloody hell again. He sees you walk down the hall until he can no longer see your figure and he makes his way back to the common room.
Harry is waiting on the sofa, as Hermione tucked herself in an hour before.
“I’m in love!” exclaims Ron to Harry. “I think I love her. I love her.”
Harry laughs in response.
“I’m not joking, mate!” Ron says to him in a serious tone. “I have to see her again.”
“Alright, you aren’t joking!” Harry replies back strongly.
“Harry, I mean it I have to see her again!” Ron says again, with such a remarkable tone of desperation in his voice. His face is so close to Harry’s, Harry wrings his head backward for protection.
“They’ll be here the whole year, Ron. You don’t have to worry.”
Ron is satisfied with Harry’s answer, and wordlessly climbs up the stairs to his bed. He makes a beeline for his sock drawer, thrashing it open, throwing sock after sock out of it until he finds the polaroid of you two together. He lays it on his bed, photo in hand, resting it on his chest. He repeats your name with a smile on his face. He doesn’t bother to change out of his school clothes, and falls asleep hoping to see you the next day and the day after that and the day after that.
