🌟Coming to a KS near you!🌟
🐍The Pre-Launch Page is live for Coiled to Strike🐍
If you see a snake with the devil’s horns, you better pray you don’t meet their gaze.
A smart man will tell you it’s best not to cross an angry viper. A wise man will tell you that the ‘Viper with Devil Horns’ is named Emory Graves and is the most dangerous of them all. No one truly knows who or what, Emory Graves is, but much like a wildfire, rumors spread.
A few fine folks have come to WildStar Press (a saloon where stories are traded, if you will) to share some tales, truths?, rumors, and more about the mysterious cowboy Emory “The Viper” Graves.

If we get 50 followers, we'll reveal the cover before the crowdfund begins!

People who complain about ARR's writing I'm like ok how many other MMOs have you actually played
Because ARR beats the stuffing out of:
* vanilla WoW (do not @ me!)
* Guild Wars 1 Prophecies
* Guild Wars 2 Core
* Elder Scrolls Online Core
* Wildstar (RIP)
Did EverQuest even HAVE a plot
The ONLY MMO I've played that had better writing AT LAUNCH was Star Wars: the Old Republic.
ARR seems cringe and bad *in hindsight*, compared to Shadowbringers. Stop telling people it's bad. It's actually pretty damn good.

Which of these games had the worst launch in your opinion ?
Which of these games had the worst launch in your opinion ? Hey r/gaming!We’ve all seen games that, despite the hype, completely botched their launch. With Concord just released, I’m curious: do you think this one takes the crown for the worst launch in recent memory, or are there others that come to mind?I’m thinking of games like Wildstar, which had so much potential but collapsed quickly, or No Man’s Sky, which, while it's a great game today, was a huge disappointment for many at launch. What do you think? What other games left you with that sour feeling at release, and why? Have you seen some manage to bounce back, while others faded into obscurity?Looking forward to your thoughts!P.S. Best of luck to the devs of Concord, hoping they manage to turn things around! Submitted September 01, 2024 at 02:38AM by TheLastViking_NBS https://ift.tt/LGlNc0s via /r/gaming

☁️ 🔪 for the fan fiction asks! love your work <33
Writer's Truth & Dare Ask Game
sakugausgdsduyj, thank you ;;~;;
☁️ ⇢ what made you choose your username?
I wanted something new after being StrayLilCat for so long. I wanted something that could be shortened to a cute nickname while also being original because I must be unique. I originally wanted something with the word Whimsy in it, but I never could come up with something I enjoyed. I straight up put words I associate with myself and things I like into some random ass user name generator. It spit out Tearueful.
I love tea. Rueful feels like it applies to my life quite well. Say them together and you get truthful, which is me as I am a blunt, oversharing sort of creature. Three letter names are also my fav given my actual name and the names of my two longest running OCs I've used. So Tea I am.
🔪 ⇢ what's the weirdest topic you researched for a writing project?
Back before Wildstar launched, I got it in my head that I needed to run an RP Guild. Because I'd recently read The Lies of Locke Lamora, I decided that this guild needed to be a criminal one. Specifically, a drug cartel. Oh the research I did for the Greysky Syndicate certainly had to put me on a few lists. I've researched way too much about the structure of mafias and crime syndicates, making drugs, all the slang possible, and exactly what happens to a skull when you continuously bludgeon it with a baseball bat as Sly was apt to do in RP.
For something more recent, I did ask all of my penis owning friends how masturbation feels for them so I could incorporate it into a Homelander fic as I don't own one of those. None of them were any help, the consensus being "Feels good".

"Warcraft Sucks Now!": Is it Nostalgia, or a Mid-Life Crisis?
Tumblr media
So, I've been thinking this for a while... but recently the amazingly fun duo of dwarven streamers commented on another post (original poster's name removed to avoid risk of them getting harassed) but... yeah. It made me think about something that, while uncomfortable, is quite true.
Tumblr media
World of Warcraft is 18 years old this year. Its old enough to vote, in a few years we'll be able to hit the tavern with it... and, well, that number sort of inspires a very uncomfortable comparison for some people.
WoW is old enough to be graduating high school this year... but, at least in my case, the game came out when I graduated high school.
Tumblr media
Jen & Eric do acknowledge this isn't 100% of the cases of course, but while there are genuinely people out there who do miss Vanilla WoW, Burning Crusade, and Wrath... there are a sizeable portion of players who are still furious despite getting basically what they've been asking to have for years rather than, yanno, going to play WoW Classic.
The reason for this is that going back to those expansions was never what they really wanted, those players wanted to go back to their lives as a whole at that time.
Think about it, eighteen years is a long time. Nobody ever imagined WoW would last as long as it has. Even back in the early days Chris Metzen and the rest thought 'this'll be neat, maybe we'll get a expansion if we're lucky' and such.
Then kaboom. WoW exploded, blew Everquest 2 right out of the damn water. Every purported "WoW Killer" that popped up over the years is either in maintenance mode (i.e. Rift) or is just flat out dead for various reasons (i.e. Wildstar, and yes I genuinely miss this one too.)
Tumblr media
I've seen Youtube videos talking about the various "eras" of Warcraft and while this isn't an unusual topic for long running video game series, WoW is a single game.
Tumblr media
Really think about that. Warcraft has been going for years, and is still going, and looks to be going even better once Dragonflight launches.
This is unprecedented. No video game has survived for this long, its kind of insane really. Its the video game equivalent of the Star Wars movies at this point, where one generation started the craze and another may well be just picking it up.
But therein lies the rub... people who started playing WoW 1.0 when they were in high school may well be in their late 30s by now and some of those friends and guildmates they had back then... well... they may not actually be able to play WoW anymore.
High school guildmates may go to college, or have kids of their own, or get the kind of careers that don't allow for hobbies like MMOs (which are VERY time consuming) and those they leave behind may well feel resentful and bitter.
Also, their lives may have genuinely been better when WoW was in that era too. Misfortune can happen to anyone. Relationships may sour, friends drift apart, jobs close, etc etc... and people will cling like hell to what they had from that time that was a high point in their life and scream in horror when it changes at all because it reminds them that this HAS changed!
Personally, I'm just lucky that my life has only improved since those times. I went from working awful minimum wage jobs to a really good work at home job with lots of free time, I'm engaged to someone who's just as big a gamer and geek as I am, and life is pretty sweet for me now. This may well be why the allure of WoW Classic is so ineffective on me, because I don't want to go back to those times because, in my case, they weren't so great!
That being said, again, there are genuinely people who wish for WoW to return to it's roots. Who want to go back to Wrath or Burning Crusade out of love for their early experiences with WoW or a desire to relive those times without having to do Chromie Time, but... well... there's also people who are in public or on social media like this:
Tumblr media
... but who in private are like this:
Tumblr media
... and honestly, I feel bad for 'em. My hair is going gray too! D:

WildStar is coming to Steam with an immense amount of new content WildStar is definitely coming to Steam and there's a lot of new content coming along with the Steam release. The Division may get an open beta this month Didn't get into The Division's closed beta? Don't fear-it looks like an open beta is coming soon.

VOID BASTARDS EXCULISVITY DEAL PC
We’ll be watching E3 as it unfolds and cover all of what’s good to play on your PC during E3. We’re sure that there’s plenty more to talk about. Microsoft has set its E3 conference for 3 PM Central time, and you can watch it on Twitch. We can’t find a complete list of games on Microsoft’s site, but The Verge has taken time to bullet-list the whole game list. That’s not everything in Xbox Game Pass for PC, though. There’s also a little-known building-focused adventure game called Minecraft. Yu Suzuki’s sandbox RPGs are still fun today, if a little dated. Sega’s Shenmue I & II give me the warm fuzzies thinking about my Dreamcast. While I haven’t played it yet, the art direction made me start downloading. Void Bastards is a cool-looking cel-shaded FPS inspired by System Shock and BioShock. Human Fall Flat is a silly third-person walking puzzle / maze game that is endlessly charming and pretty challenging once you get into it a ways. In an attempt to make Game Pass for PC work for all kinds of gamers, Microsoft has included a couple of titles that wander off the beaten path of AAA PC-killers. Gears of War 4and Halo 5: Guardians are staples of Microsoft’s console experience. Also available, but not pictured, are some of the best first-party Xbox One games that are also available on PC.
VOID BASTARDS EXCULISVITY DEAL SERIES
Forza Horizon 4 is the latest in Microsoft’s open-world racing series with tons of licensed cars, true-to-life controls, and great graphics. Fallout 4 is an oldie at this point, but Bethesda’s post-apocalyptic adventure is huge and beautiful, so if you haven’t experienced it yet, you should. Many of these games you probably already own if you’re interested in them. It’s easy to see what’s available because Game Pass games have a badge on the tile that reads “Included with Game Pass”. What I found was a collection of good, if older, games and some recent Xbox ports. At a dollar I figure I can’t lose, so I signed up just to see what’s available. To give gamers a chance to find out if the selection is what they crave, Microsoft has cut the price of the first month to just a dollar. Five bucks a month doesn’t seem too shabby for access to a bunch of games, if the titles are right. However, at the service’s launch Microsoft is offering it for half price. The company has unveiled the price of Xbox Game Pass for PC: ten dollars a month, just like the Xbox version. Microsoft dropped the first bit of chocolatey goodness this morning. It’s almost E3 and so it’s time for game makers and platform owners to start dropping gooey morsels of gaming news.

There are many huge maps for you to enjoy, which guarantees a good diversity to players who don’t enjoy staying in the same place for long. This one is set in space and focuses a lot on spacecraft battles. The title merges several science fiction elements with its colorful graphics, which results in a very interesting experience. It sort of defines the entire game’s story, since the planet’s inhabitants must fight against the aliens to set themselves free. It is set on planet Nexus, which is being controlled by an alien race.

WildStar is another free MMORPG that’s been conquering thousands of fans across the world. Of course, you can choose from over 100 different characters, each with a special skill. This position makes the game more interesting, since the players don’t have top-down vision and can’t see their enemies from afar. It may seem insignificant, but it changes the game style drastically, making it its own. An example is its camera, positioned behind your character.

The game is based on a third-person cooperative experience where you have to keep improving your character and their skills during the playthrough.Įven though it has a main story to be followed, the most fun part is found in its multiplayer mode, where you can compete or cooperate with your friends. WarframeĪnother very popular free game, in Warframe you can even play as a space ninja robot, which may already be interesting enough to draw the interest of most. Click here to check out and download the game. The characters found along the adventure might not be that interesting, but the story and the setting make up for it for the most part. It is set in a great kingdom you can explore at will, find many interesting creatures and complete the quests related to the main story. One of the best free MMORPG games on Steam, Neverwinter has many resources which are usually only available on paid games.

Since the matches tend to be quick and chaotic, it is very usual for everything to change in a matter of seconds, which makes things that more exciting. The game has several different character types with very unique skills. On Team Fortress 2, two teams face off just like in any other shooter.
#Best free games on mac for steam full#
Even though it was launched over ten years ago, it still is very fun, competitive and full of players. The game is a team based shooter with a distinctive graphics that pops out. Like Dota 2, Team Fortress 2 is another very popular game across the world.

Click here to download Path of Exile for free on Steam. You play as a criminal among many other prisoners and must complete several quests along the game. The game also offers incredible graphics that can easily be compared to AAA games of the newest generation. Like many of the games in our list, Path of Exile is an action RPG very similar to Diablo III, but with a very obscure theme. Click here to download the game for free. In fact, the game tends to be a bit confusing for beginners, but you just need to venture into the world for a while to learn everything as you go. It also has three huge continents and six distinct classes for you to choose how you wish to play. PlanetSide 2 is a game with thousands of futuristic tanks, machines, hunts, soldiers and anything you can imagine. Click here to download the game on Steam. The gameplay can be intense and competitive, but always fun. The game is played between two five player teams in a big map, where you must face off against each other to advance and win. The goal is pretty simple: you have to use your troops to capture your opponent’s base. With hundreds of characters available, you can choose the one that fits in best with your game style, since each one is different from another and has several unique skills. It is quite likely that you’ve at least heard about Dota 2, easily one of the most popular MOBAs in the world. As you can expect, the game is free and can be download through this Steam link. The graphics are beautiful and stand out, which also makes it pop up when compared to similar games. What makes it interesting is that each character has its own characteristics and skills. Our first suggestion is Paladins, an amazing first-person shooter where you play with a team of five players to defeat the enemy team. Did you like any of the best free games on Steam?.

i miss Wildstar ... I think the concept of completely telegraphed combat in an mmo is wild but something about it really worked. the character animations were really fun and bouncy too. I played the Stalker class during alpha, beta, and early launch and there was a lot of fun impact to the attacks... wasn’t a huge fan of the way the world looked, the design was good but it felt a little incorporeal, and I really disliked the ui. but i miss playing it :-( my draken was named Kungalow Bungalow and my house looked like shit

How long have you been roleplaying? How many fandoms have you written in?
Around 22 years, I think, with a few small breaks in between here and there. I started back in the AOL days, and from there I moved on to Ultima Online on Chesapeake. PaxLair/Silverdale/Mythndale ..? I think that’s what the last RP town was called, anyway. A few of my buddies moved on when Age of Shadows hit and we went to SWG but it didn’t last too long. Wasn’t a fan of the game at launch.
I bounced around various other places until Neverwinter Nights hit in early 2000s, if I remember right? Spent many, many years there RPing on various Persistent Worlds. I’ve played WoW since launch but didn’t start on RPing there until the end of Cataclysm. After that it’s been another bounce from place to place. The Secret World/Guild Wars 2/WildStar/FF14/Neverwinter the MMO for a bit/Elder Scrolls Online. I get around.
EDIT: I forgot the multitude of DnD and VtM stuff I’ve done but.. that wasn’t exactly writing. STILL COUNTS.

EPISODE 21
“We have not sought out the Gamilons, they have found us, first in our homes on Earth and now here. We must face them and defeat them before we get to Iscandar.” - Captain Avatar
We had no way of knowing it ahead of time, but the velocity of storytelling on STAR BLAZERS was about to increase exponentially as we entered the fifth week of broadcast. The original Japanese series of YAMATO had been planned to run for 39 episodes, but the show got horrible ratings, attracting only an anemic 6% share of television audiences. Consequently, the broadcast station cut their commitment to YAMATO back to 26 episodes, which meant that the production team suddenly only had six episodes remaining in which to wrap up all of the assorted elements of their story.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Following last episode’s destruction of the Gamilon base on Planet Balan, General Lysis has returned to Gamilon to face a Court Martial as a consequence of his actions. At the trial, the defiant Lysis is confident, even brash: “My operations never fail! If there had been no call from Desslok, it would have succeeded!”But the assembled Gamilon High Command isn’t hearing it. “Stop blaming everyone but yourself! With your arrogant stupidity, you have cost us an important base! Our control of (the) galaxy will be greatly limited!” accuses General Talan, soon to be an important figure in the saga. In what may be a first for a cartoon aired in America, the assembled Generals vote for the Death Penalty.
In his private quarters, where he’s attended by a bevy of willowy Gamilon beauties, Leader Desslok is brought the results of the trial by General Krypt (who at last is evidencing a healthy blue pallor.) Krypt tells Desslok that the verdict was unanimous, but the great Gamilon leader isn’t having it. “I know that Lysis is often rash, even dangerous, but he is the only one of my generals I can depend on to defeat the Star Force. Of course he’s made mistakes, but at least he does something, not like those who sit in judgment on him.” Desslok chooses to pardon Lysis and send him back into battle with the Star Force for a decisive showdown.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
In the original plan for YAMATO, the journey from Balan into the Greater Magellanic Cloud would have taken place over several episodes and adventures, but now the production team didn’t have nearly that much track. So instead, the back half of the Star Force’s journey into Iscandar space would be completed in only two episodes, and with a single massive conflict involved. Informed of his pardon, Lysis is given new orders to prevent the Star Force’s entry into the Magellanic Cloud by any means necessary.
Despite having testified against Lysis at his trial, Volgar remains as his second in command. It’s never stated outright here, but the between-the-lines sense is that this mission is a last chance effort for the both of them. If they fail this time, there’s not going to be any coming back. Lysis and Volgar scout locations for their coming conflict, eventually settling on the Rainbow Galaxy, an area of space where the Star Force’s radar equipment will be unable to function properly. Lysis has also got some specialized new weapons to bring to the party: an energy beam system capable of warping small fighter planes across the battlefield, which he nicknames S.M.I.T.E. (Space Matter Instant Transforming Equipment) and a colossal Drill Missile, which he intends to fire directly into the Argo’s Wave-Motion Gun, destroying it.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
His plans laid out, Lysis takes the direct approach in attracting the Star Force’s attention: he sends a message of challenge directly to them, exciting the crew: “To Captain Avatar of the Star Force: The battle lines between the forces of Gamilon and Earth have never been precisely drawn. I propose we meet at the edge of the Magellanic Cloud, at RXPT730 in seven Earth days. The outcome will determine your future. If, as I expect, we defeat you, your mission to Iscandar will be finished. You can, if you wish, withdraw now and return to Earth. This is Lysis, commander of all Gamilon forces!”
Wildstar is, of course, overjoyed at the thought of a direct confrontation with the Gamilons, and he points out that if they don’t defeat them, they’re going to have to fight them all the way back to Earth on the return trip as well. The rest of the crew isn’t so sure. Sandor points out that the Star Force is outnumbered a hundred to one, and Venture says that their schedule is already extremely tight--even if they win, the delay might be enough to prevent them from getting back to Earth in time. It’s Orion who points out that Captain Avatar is present, and all eyes turn to the old man to deliver his decision on the matter.
And Captain Avatar chooses to answer the challenge. it must be said, this is an extraordinarily stupid and foolish thing for him to do, given that all life on Earth depends on the success of this single ship. But especially in Japanese culture, it would be cowardly and dishonorable to refuse such a challenge, so like it or not, the Star Force is heading into a decisive battle in the Rainbow Galaxy for all the marbles.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
As the days count down, Lysis pulls together a fleet for the mission. Rather than the hundreds of starships he’s fielded in the past, he instead selects a small task force made up of three Space Carriers and one Carrier-Battleship, augmented by his own small command vessel. We see extensive sequences of the different types of assault fighters and bombers grouping up on their respective carriers and then making their way back to the homeworld.
Lysis assembles his commanders for a briefing on strategy. They represent the front line Generals of four of the most heavily contested outliers of the Gamilon Empire. As the troops assemble, Leader Desslok addresses them, giving them a quick speech to stoke their battle readiness. And then, the assembled task Force moves out, to hunt their foe.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
As they near the area of the coming conflict, Captain Avatar assembles the entirety of the Star Force in the Argo’s assembly hall. As he mounts the dais, one random crewman muses, “He doesn’t look very strong, does he?” calling back to Avatar’s recent illness. The Captain Proposes that the crew drink a toast to their coming victory in water from a once-beautiful spring on Earth. Amazingly, this is the one instance where this actually was water in the original YAMATO version, part of a ritual performed by soldiers going out to face death.
As the episode wraps up, the Star Force enters the Rainbow Galaxy, and its radar systems cease to function. Captain Avatar orders the crew to battle stations, and everybody braces for the attack to come. And on the Gamilon side, the assembled forces of the enemy similarly brace, waiting for the impending order to launch their attack and obliterate their foe. It’s on this moment of greatest tension that the episode comes to its conclusion, letting us know that, whatever the outcome of this great battle, mankind has only 215 days left to live.

One Last HalloWeave
I’m not sure on the specifics of this yet as we don’t know when the actual closing of the servers will be for Wildstar. However, I would be honored to be able to throw one last HalloWeave for everyone.HalloWeave began after launch when it was discovered that there would be no holiday events at all during the first year.
This sparked myself and Kali’s sister, Windflower Moondark, to hold an event based on old harvest festival traditions with a bit of magic thrown in. Not only did it include a mass sending ritual with “The Rising Ceremony” but also a feast, dancing, story telling, and other revelry.
While it’s ebbed and flowed with being more popular some years than others, and I’ve had various levels of help, it would be great to be able to do this one more time. Usually it’s around IRL Halloween, but we may or may not get that chance.
If anyone is interested in helping Kali throw one more, hopefully massive, traditional Aurin bash…let me know!

Yesterday, with a heavy heart, I bade farewell to my favorite MMORPG.
Having been a hardcore gamer and one of the world’s top players in WoW for more years than I’d care to acknowledge, I was very skeptical when Wildstar was released and hailed as “the WoW killer”. It didn’t take long for me totally see how that could’ve happened, for Wildstar’s potential was great enough to inspire even a burnt-out and jaded veteran gamer like me. The combat was so dynamic and interesting that, from the getgo, players would learn the importance of facing, positioning, moving smartly, and other aspects of situational awareness. That, coupled with the ability to double-jump, dodge-roll, and an announcer that totally loves his job, the leveling experience was never grindy, which I can’t say for any other MMO I’ve played. Heck, I’d even go so far as to say that each “ding” was the ultimate feel-good experience, as far as you can get from an MMO anyway.
But, what ultimately did Wildstar in was the (lack of an) endgame. I started playing Wildstar towards the end of my WoW career, which coincided with Wildstar’s launch, and after a thrilling leveling experience, I found myself immersed in the same toxic attitudes that I’d sought to escape, except belonging to people who possessed not even a fraction of the skill of those I left behind. The prospect of reliving the early 40-man raiding nightmare of WoW was so unappealing to me that I abruptly stopped playing Wildstar, and didn’t again until recently, four years later, when I’d heard that the game was shutting down for good.
So, I leveled a character again, to experience the bittersweet nostalgia one last time. Just as I’d brought my favorite character into Nexus the first time, I did so again for the final time. In the game’s final two hours, I, along with hundreds of other players that’d gathered to say goodbye to the game, got turned into cupcakes, sheep, and gigantified.
Goodbye Wildstar, I shall miss you dearly.

A Fairwell to Nexus
It’s been a while since I posted about Wildstar, but all things considered, I think it’s time.
...Wildstar was one of my big MMO loves. It filled the post City of Heroes void in my life, and I had a lot of good times there. I’ll never forget Galex, and his wacky adventures...
Though my final experiences there left a bitter taste in my mouth, and I still dunno how to process them. I suppose the cost of having such a small community is that the normal bits of friction and drama seem to resonate to every corner...
I wish the game did better. I really do. It had some beautiful ideas. But I also feel that this was a long time coming...
All of the charm in the world couldn’t overcome some of the foundational issues the game had.
A focus on a “hardcore” market that is largely already established elsewhere, to the exclusion of casual players. Being told by a guildmate I wasn’t allowed to be excited about Redmoon Terror because I had never done Datascape still hurts...
A lot of people were just turned off by the subscription at launch. Which sucked, and then opened the door for NCSoft to institute its predatory F2P practices.
...seriously, the rune system was such a blatant cash grab post-F2P. I had to pay 20 dollars for functional gear that had already dropped.
I wish Wildstar survived. I loved it and it’s setting dearly, and I worry that this will be the end of science fantasy mmos for a while...
...but I also know it’s not coming back. I’ve been through this pain before. At best, it is taken to a private server somewhere that I’m never going to be welcome. NCSoft doesn’t release properties again, especially after killing the company...
But I’ll remember it always.

Revisiting Wildstar
Revisiting Wildstar - This weekend I spent some time on the Nexus Forever test server and talk about the process and whether or not you should do this.
Loading Screen from in-game on Emulator Server Friends I did some nonsense this weekend and I am going to talk briefly about whether or not you should also do some nonsense. Wildstar is a game that I genuinely feel was ahead of its time. Had it launched today, I think that it would be far better received than it was in 2014. Admittedly there are a lot of reasons why I would say that today, not…
