Summary: You and Michael are on a relationship but he's forced to be in a PR for the album.

A/N: i know i haven’t written anything in a while but I was procrastinating both school work and writing and nothing got done and then The Irregulars came out and became my new obsession but if you are not going to spam your followers with your latest obsession then why do you a blog here? anyways enjoy.

“Now with us in the studio 5 Seconds of Summer!” Jimmy announced and the guys appeared and sat next to him.

The guys had just released a new song, and this would be the first they were performing it live and talking about it.

“First off I want to start this by saying that this song is amazing, and I have had it on repat since it came out” Jimmy told them “now what was the inspiration for the song?”

“We kinda wanted to go old school on this one” Ashton began explaining “going back to some classic rock ballads. I think our main influence were bands like Journey and of course our experiences being in love.”

“Speaking of being in love Michael” Jimmy continued “you just recently were seen with Chloe Graham, the newest sensation on the modeling industry.”

“Yeah, we been dating for a couple of months now and it’s been great I’m really happy.”

After a couple of questions and some fun games Jimmy had prepared the guys finally performed the song, you were watching the whole thing on TV since Michael and you had agreed to keep the relationship on the down low. You felt beyond proud and happy to listen to the song that was written about you. Even though the world didn’t know it was about you.

“I love the song, but I smell bullshit. Chloe and Michael are clearly a stunt they became a public couple after the song was released??? a love song??? I mean come on.”

“No hate to Chloe but I believe the song is bout Y/N look at how they look at each other.”

“Can we stop talking about Chloe and just talk about the beautiful performance the guys gave us??”

You had been scrolling through comments like that from fans on twitter though you sometimes found weird how they found something to read between the lines all the time it was nice to know that if you came out with Michael as public after all this song release and all you’d have the support of the fans.

“Do you want to come with me to the pet store?” you asked Michael over breakfast putting your phone down “I thought we could choose some toys for Moose. Have some lunch.”

“I don’t know Y/N.”

“Come on! We haven’t had a hang out outside the house in ages.”

“I don’t think being seen just the two of us would be a good thing” he shrugged “I mean the fans already know something’s up.”

“But your fans think we’re friends and they know we’re roommates” you said slightly hurt “friends hang out together. Our relationship won’t be leaving these four walls.”

“I-I don’t know.”

“Fine” you huffed “I’ll just ask Luke I don’t feel like going by myself.”

“I’m sorry” he said “you know it’s the…”

“Label” you finished “it always is.”

“Michael Clifford seen at a jewelry store. Is he ready to tie knot?”

“Are Chloe and Michael getting engaged soon? 5SOS guitarist seen buying jewelry.”

“This isn’t going to stop, is it?” you said as you read the headlines on your phone as Luke sat down with your coffee order “the pr stunt.”

“It has to end Y/N” Luke assured you “we never thought our management would put us in something like this but here we are.”

You sighed. “We tried to talk Michael against it, but you know how companies work.”

Luke was trying what he could to cheer you up the guys knew how upsetting this was for you. You didn’t really have a problem with that because as long as you and Michael were real who cared about the world? But the last weeks and headlines had taken a toll on you.

“Hey! it’s just for the lead single” Luke tried to cheer you up “then everything will go back to the way it was.”

How you wished Luke were right. What was just for a song became a promo stunt for the whole album you didn’t know how it happened between Instagram that seemed to be written by someone else and not Michael and strategic public appearances to get paparazzi photos you were not only were you losing your boyfriend to the media you were also losing your best friend.

“Don’t you guys think is suspicious that all the content from Michael and Chloe comes from paparazzi?”

“I don’t like talking about the guys’ private life but there’s something about C & M that I don’t like.”

You sighed closing twitter again and putting your phone back in your pocket. It was your birthday and it felt like shit. Not the feeling you wanted that day.

“Happy birthday babe!” Michael exclaimed “I think you saw on your phone about the jewelry store, but I still hope this can surprise you.”

“Thank you, Mike” you smiled opening the box with a beautiful necklace “I love it.”

“Later I’m going to show you the song I’ve been writing” he said, “it’s about you but first what do you want to do?”

“I don’t feel like doing anything to be honest.”

“Come on! It’s your birthday” he pushed “I know I haven’t been there for you completely and today I’m all yours.”

“Wow” you dried laugh “I have my boyfriend all to myself for one day what a gift.”

“You know this will be over soon.”

“Soon when?” you snapped “soon when you have to go on tour? Soon when the album earns a billion streams?”

“It’s just promo nothing is real.”

“I’m tired of the promo” you told him “You told it was just for the lead single and I was okay with that now the album is out, and you still are in a pr stunt and not with me.”

“You know this is out of my control!”

“It is under your control. You are selling a lie” you cried “you know I think the song would’ve done great in the charts without this you have passionate fans they would do anything for you. For the band, yet you had to go there and build an act. I don’t know if you mean anything anymore.”

“Don’t be so harsh with me Y/N” Michael begged “You know every song I write is about you. You are my muse.”

“Am I? Then why don’t you put an end to this hell? Why do you keep hurting me?” you asked, “why do we still have hide?”

“I don’t- I don’t know.”

“I do know” you said “you and I both lost and forgot what was real. I think it’d be better if we take time to ourselves you figure the things with the label out and I’ll just try to fix my broken heart.

You kissed him on the cheek. “Bye Michael.”

“Y/N, you’re on in ten.” Your assistant told you through your dressing room door.

“Be out in a minute!” You called back to her before returning to your phone.

“How do I look?” You asked Tom through FaceTime.

“Beautiful.” He beamed, making you blush. “Do I look alright?”

“You’re going to the pub, you’re not going to an interview.” You teased, “But you look great.”

“Hurry up and come home, darling. It’s not the same without you here.” Tom pouted.

“Three more days.” You told him. “I have to go before they ask why I’m taking so long.”

“I love you.” He replied, blowing a kiss to the camera.

“I love you too.” You blew a kiss back before hanging up the phone. You let out a sigh as you set your phone down and double checked your appearance in the mirror.

Six months ago, you and Tom began your relationship, but decided to keep it out of the public eye. Even before you were dating, there were rumors that you two were an item, so you both knew it’d be better to keep your privacy. With you being a successful musician and Tom being a successful actor, your differing schedules kept you quite busy, but you always managed to find a few days to see each other.

You exited your dressing room and were ushered on stage for your interview with Ellen. Smiling and waving, you walked out onto stage as music played and the audience cheered. You gave Ellen a welcoming hug and took a seat in your chair.

“Welcome back. It’s nice to see you again.” Ellen greeted you.

“Thank you for having me back. I love coming here.” You smiled.

The interview started off simple with questions asking about your new album. It wasn’t until after the commercial break that the interview steered into dangerous territory with you.

“Your lead single is called “I Hate Love Songs”.” Ellen started and you nodded, letting out a nervous laugh, “So, would you not consider yourself a hopeless romantic then?”

“I think I have some hopeless romantic qualities, but not the big cliche ones. I wrote the song as more of a sweet, satire about love songs.”

“Did you write it with anyone in mind?” She asked teasingly.

“No, I don’t think so.” You laughed. You could feel your cheeks warming up because you definitely wrote that song with Tom as your inspiration.

“You don’t think so? What does that mean?”

“I don’t know. I thought maybe you expected me to have someone in mind. I don’t need to have a boyfriend to write a love song.”

“So you’re single then?”

“Yes.” You lied.

“You’re saying yes, but you’re blushing very hard right now. Anyway, I thought I could help you out with ‘Who’d You Rather?’” She teased.

“Okay.” You let out a laugh and watched as the screen pulled up two photos.

“So, Joe Keery or Timothee Chalamet?”

“Oh, I love Joe so much, but I think I’m going with Timmy.” You stated.

“Alright, Timmy. Timmy or Shawn Mendes?”

“I know Shawn, though.”

“So Shawn?”

“I’ll go with Shawn because I know him personally.”

“You know, this is dating and it’s not real. But anyway,” Ellen said, and you held back a laugh as Tom’s picture came on screen. The cheers from the audience increased as everyone had heard the rumors, “Shawn or Tom Holland?”

“Tom’s a good friend too, though.” You replied.

“Rumor has it you know him well.” She joked, making you laugh.

“Do you want me to pick Tom? Is that what this is?” You asked.

“I’m just saying.” She shrugged teasingly.

“We’ll go with Tom then.” You nodded as the cheering increased.

“Tom or Ryan Gosling?”

“I’ll go with Tom still.” Your somewhat fast response made even Ellen laugh. A few rounds later, you were still on Tom. You knew you had to switch off of him before you said anything too consequential. You also knew that Tom would watch this interview and you were entertained by the thought of him figuring out you chose someone else over him.

“Tom or Niall Horan?” Ellen asked you.

“Ooh,” You let out, thinking about it. “So you see, Niall was always my favorite in One Direction.”

“Is Niall beating out Tom finally? Is Tom going to be upset with that?” You could tell where she was going, trying to get you to spill something about your life.

“Why would Tom be upset?” You replied.

“Well, you know.” Ellen hinted.

“I gotta go with Niall.” You smiled with a shrug, playing off her attempts. The line of photos ended there, signaling the end of the game.

“So I got Niall?” You asked.

“Yes, unless you want to go back and choose Tom.” She offered.

“I’m fine with Niall.”

The next day, you got a call from Tom that began with “So Niall Horan is my competition?”

Before you could go back to London, you did a Carpool Karaoke session with James Corden. After going through the basic interview questions and a few songs, James shifted the interview’s focus onto your personal life.

“Now, how often do you get to go out and watch a movie? You know, actually go to the cinema and see a film?” James asked.

“I wouldn’t say I go often, but I go whenever there’s a good film out that I really want to see.” You said, already knowing where this was headed.

“Do you go see Marvel movies in cinema? I heard you’re a fan.”

“I try to go see those so that they aren’t spoiled for me. It’s really difficult though because so many people go see them. I’d have to be really inconspicuous.”

“Who would you say is your favorite superhero?”

“That’s tough.” You sighed. Feeling in the mood to tease the fans out there, “I think I’d say Spider-Man. He’s always been so relatable.”

“You don’t have another underlying reason for picking Spider-Man?” James asked with a laugh.

“Nope, definitely not.” You laughed.

“Now, do you currently have a favorite actor?”

“My favorite? That’s a difficult one.” You stated, thinking it through.

“There’s not one specific actor that comes to mind? Not even one specific brunet British actor that you hang out with a lot, who even plays Spider-Man?” James pressed.

“You sound like you have one in mind.” You teased.

“I think I’d go with Tom Holland right now. What do you think about him?”

“He’s a good friend and a good actor too. I’ll say he’s my favorite if you want me to.”

“Would you ever date an actor like Tom?”

“I don’t know.” You stated.

“Is that you actually don’t know or you don’t want to say anything that will lead to rumors?”

“I normally don’t have to say anything for rumors to start.” You joked, making him laugh.

“I think you just started some right there.” He laughed as the music started up again. You knew that this video would spark so many rumors just with that comment.

A few days later, you and Tom were celebrating you coming back to town. You were at a club in London and definitely thought that the two of you were being sneakier with your actions. You were so caught up in how much you loved Tom that, for a night, you forgot you were trying to be discreet about your relationship; so caught up that you and Tom both thought that you were safe making out in a corner of a crowded club before making your way to a vip room together. That was an issue saved for the next day.

“Tom, answer your damn phone before I throw it out the window.” You mumbled into his chest as he began to wake up.

“Good morning to you too.” Tom chucked. He kissed the top of your head before stretching over to grab his phone from the nightstand.

“Holy shit.” He breathed out, blinking rapidly as his phone continued to get flooded with texts, emails, and all other sorts of notifications.

“What happened?” You asked, sitting up and stretching so he could fully sit up.

“Someone saw us last night.” Tom said, showing you the latest video trending on Twitter. It was the two of you from the club; Tom had you pushed up against the wall with his hands running over your butt as you pulled on his hair. The video ended with you two making your way to the private room. The video was poor quality, but there was no denying who it was. By the end of it, both of you sported messed up hair and Tom was basically wearing your lipstick. You felt sick to your stomach thinking that millions of people have seen that by now.

“I have Graham Norton tonight, and I know I’ll be asked about it.” He groaned.

“There’s no way we can play that off.” You sighed, “I didn’t want to go public yet.”

“I know. I liked having this secret.” Tom ran an anxious hand through his hair.

“You’ve dodged relationship questions before. It’ll be fine.” You gave him a reassuring kiss.

“God, I hope so. I should call my manager. It might be good if you did that too.” He said and you nodded, knowing he was right.

Your managers both came to the same conclusion: don’t discuss it and act like it didn’t happen. Both of you had brushed off relationship rumors before; this was just more difficult to ignore.

Sitting on the couch among a few other celebrities, Tom felt himself feeling more nervous than usual.

“So, Tom, how are you feeling today?” Graham asked right off the bat.

“I’m feeling good. Thanks.” Tom nodded, letting out a nervous laugh.

“You didn’t have too rough of a night? Not hungover or sore or anything?”

“No, my night was fine.”

“Oh, ‘fine’ is how you’d describe it?” Graham turned to the audience, “I don’t know if anyone heard, but Tom had a pretty interesting night.” A photograph of you and Tom last night appeared on screen, causing the audience to cheer. “Y/N just said she was single a few days ago; did you make a move last night or was this a pre-established thing?”

“I don’t- no.” Tom laughed, scratching his neck in an anxious manner. “Photoshop these days, man. Incredible.”

“So that wasn’t a video of you and Y/N getting it on in public?” He teased.

“Definitely not.” Tom shook his head. “Y/N and I are just good friends.”

“I wonder how many girls are out there wanting to be your good friend.” Graham joked, before moving on to ask Tom about his movie. And for that, Tom was grateful.

“Are you sure about this?” Tom asked, squeezing your hands gently.

“Yes, it’s time we just get it over with. They already know.” You laughed lightly, making him chuckle as well.

You and Tom had decided to finally go public with your relationship by confirming it in the music video for your latest single, “I Hate Love Songs”. You filmed it a few weeks ago, and it would be released today.

Tom held you as you watched over the video one last time before your team posts it. In the video, you walked through the usual cliche scenes of love stories: catching bouquets, romantic movie nights, and kissing in the rain. At the end of the video, the camera cut over to you as you walked over to a large bed. You laid down and winked at the camera, before Tom appeared next to you and pulled you into a kiss.

“What do you think?” You asked as the video ended.

“I love it. And I love you.” Tom smiled.

“I love you too.” You kissed before giving your team the okay to release it. You stayed cuddled up in Tom’s arms as you watched the different reactions flood in. As expected, the media went crazy with the confirmation and the fans were living for the fact that you two were actually together.

I’m a big fan of “The Office” (U.S. Tv show). “The Office” ran for 9 seasons and was a big hit in the U.S. (and the world) for a long time.

For the last several years, real life best friends, Jenna Fischer (Pam) and Angela Kinsey (Angela) have had a podcast called “Office Ladies” re-watching and breaking down every episode of “The Office”. It really is a very informative look back at how “The Office” was made and how the producers, writers and cast kept the history of stories from previous episodes connected too current episodes they were producing (something that Heartland as a real bad track record of). Last night they started a two part look back at the season 4 finale. One of last night’s discussions was very interesting to me and in a way connects to Heartland.

Several years ago, Jenna Fischer wrote a book called “The Actor’s Life: A Survival Guide”. One of the things discussed in the book was actors salaries. Jenna Fischer researched the average salaries of actors using “The Screen Actors Guild” as a source and found that the “median salary”, in general for a “working” actor was $52,000 per year. Most of the “SAG” actors in the union earn less than $7,000 per year from acting and less than 5% of “SAG” actors earn more than $100,000 per year. Another point. If an actor was able to make the “median salary” he/she would have to pay their agent, manager, and taxes and would only take home about $29,000.

So…what does this have to do with Heartland.

For the last fourteen years (hopefully 15 Years) all the principal actors on Heartland have had a steady job. Probably making well over $100,000 per year. Considering how few actors in the U.S. actually find work in the profession (it’s probably worse in Canada) it seems to me it would not be very smart leaving a popular show voluntarily unless the actor had already lined up a new job in the profession before leaving (assuming they still wanted to act). Most of the Heartland actors like Michelle Morgan, Shaun Johnston, Alisha Newton, and even Amber Marshall have done other projects away from Heartland. Unfortunately, Graham Wardle hasn’t done any acting jobs since 2013 and according to the IMDB web site, Graham is not attached to any upcoming projects.

Because of the way Covid-19 has affected the entertainment business (and the rest of the world) having a job paying a good salary seems throwing it away real shortsighted. I know Graham has his reasons to leave but he, just like the rest of us, has bills to pay. Really hope he’s prepared to be out of work. It’s tough out there. Yeah, I mean to me that is really telling that he wanted out and isn’t motivated by money (because then he would’ve just kept going - though I guess he technically did for 5 years, but... you know), but like you said, we all need money to live.

I think it also comes down to what kind of lifestyle you want to have too. For example, for Amber I would think it makes a big difference because she has a big ranch, but at the same time she has other revenues (is that the right word to use?) that help and then of course there’s Shawn who also brings in money, so it’s not just her “Heartland money” that keeps her/them afloat. That’s one thing I admire about her - that she’s always been looking so much ahead, covering herself in case the show was not to continue.

In general, one can definitely live with less and, yeah, there is probably savings (but of course they are not endless either), but at the same time leaving a show/a steady job really isn’t a decision one (usually) makes lightly, even if they wouldn’t be motivated by money, especially if they don’t have a plan about what’s next (I mean, Graham has some things going on, but I don’t know if he has an exact clear vision about what he is going to do next - someone correct me if he’s said something).

I think all of this is something some fans don’t get, that leaving this kind of money (whatever the amount was/is) behind tells a lot about his decision and him. Graham has also said he is taking a break from acting, so maybe he isn’t so depended on earning roles anymore.

I Keep On Missing You - Tom

First Part

Pairing: Tom Holland x Reader

Authors note: The songs didn’t come out in that order in real life by any means.

Tom tracked your relationship with Brad with The Vamps music. Every time he heard Brads voice on the radio, he gave it a good old fashioned rage-listen.

“Oh how I wish that you could say you feel the same way.” Brad sang and Tom groaned loudly.

“She doesn’t!” He huffed and quickly changed the channel.

“I’d risk it all. I’d rather crash, I’d rather crawl than never have your love at all. With only bricks to break my fall, I’d risk it all.” Came on another time.

“Shut up!” Tom shrieked.

“We will dream a dream for us that no one else can touch. My dear, I’m here, so wake up.” Brad seemed to follow him wherever he went.

“Go back to sleep, and starve!” Tom grumbled.

Despite his hatred towards them, all those songs told Tom you guys were in the talking stage.

High Hopes came out a few weeks later and told Tom you were together. Lyrics like “I could move in with you and we could get married too.” cut Tom like a knife. He winced every time it played on the radio.

Worry told Tom you and Brad were fighting and falling apart, and he tended to leave that song on a little longer.

Finally, Million Words. A breakup song.

Tom wasn’t very experienced in love, but he wasn’t an idiot. He wasn’t gonna be that guy that tried to win a girl back right after a breakup. He gave you space but when he refreshed your Instagram one day and saw all traces of Brad had been deleted, he decided to reach out.

“Hey.” He wrote.

“hi.” You answered a few seconds later.

“How are you doing?” He sent.

“so you heard?” You replied and Tom let out a little laugh.

“Everyone hears everything in Hollywood, but that’s not what I’m here for.” He wrote.

“then what are you here for?” You wrote back.

“You. I’m here for you.” Tom sent.

“That was lame.” You replied after a minute, and Tom blew breath out of his nostrils.

“If I recall correctly, my lameness was one of the things you loved about me.” Tom messaged. He waited anxiously for a response.

“ew why’d you put “love” in past tense?” You finally answered, and Toms heart skipped a beat.

“Idk we’re broken up I didn’t want to assume.” He texted back.

“never mind. forget I said anything.” you sent.

“Okay. How are you feeling?” He asked.

“better. brad and I have been broken up five months now so I’ve healed.” You replied and Tom smiled to himself.

“I’m glad you’re okay.” Tom sent, then typed out “I miss you”, but he deleted it.

“i’m kinda glad you reached out. i miss you.” You went and Tom nearly threw his phone.

“You do?” He asked.

“we were best friends before we started dating and I thought we always would be. it’s been super weird without you this past year.” You sent. Tom didn’t know how to respond. His thumbs danced over his keyboard until you sent a follow up text. “i don’t like it.”

“Tom, you’re wanted on set.” Someone knocked are his trailer door.

“Listen, I’m on set right now and gotta go but I’m gonna text you later okay?” He sent. “I want to finish this conversation.

“okay” you wrote back, and Tom smiled.

“And btw, I’ve hated every second we’ve been apart.” He sent quickly and left to go on set.

Later that night, Tom got a text.

“are you there?” You sent.

“Always.” He replied.

“can you come over?” You asked, and Tom looked up to Heaven with a smile.

“I’ll be there in ten :)” He sent and quickly put on his shoes. He pulled into your driveway in no time and walked into your house with his spare key.

“Hey.” You came out of the living room in sleep shorts and an old T-shirt. You looked timid and a little worn down.

“Hey.” Tom said back and gave you a gentle smile, which you returned.

“How have you been?” You asked as you took a step closer to him. You rubbed your arms from the cold and Tom wished he was still the one who warmed you up.

“Do you want an honest answer?” Tom laughed halfheartedly.

“Yeah.” You nodded.

“Terrible.” He said, and heard you sigh.

“Why?” You asked lamely. You knew why.

“Because I just had to drive ten minutes to see the love of my life when I used to be able to roll over and see her asleep next to me.” Tom shrugged sadly. He looked small all of the sudden, and your heart began to break as tears stung your eyes.

“What happened to us?” You croaked.

“He did, love.” Tom whispered.

“He didn’t do anything to us. He just magnified problems we were already having.” You said and Tom knew you were right.

“I shouldn’t have gotten jealous or tried to control you. That’s toxic behavior and I know that now. I have no excuse for it.” Tom apologized for the first time and a weight came off his shoulders. All his guilt was coming to light.

“No, you shouldn’t have.” You agreed. But I should have talked to you first before making plans with Brad. I knew it made you uncomfortable but I did it anyway, and I’m sorry for that.”

“I’m sorry too.” Tom sniffled.

“Where do we go from here?” You asked.

“I just want you to come home.” Tom pleaded.

And so you did.

But the songs didn’t stop after you got back with Tom.

The Vamps released Same To You a week after you posted a picture of Tom kissing your cheek on your Instagram, a song asking if the love from your new boyfriend felt the same to you as Brads love did.

The Missing You EP was full of songs about losing your girlfriend and regretting it, making Tom wonder what actually happened between you and Brad. Lyrics like “maybe I should’ve loved harder, checked if you were all right” and “I’m a fool. I let you down, I messed around, I made waves. I’m ashamed.” made it seem like Brad seriously messed up and broke your heart. As much as he wanted to know, he didn’t dare ask. It wasn’t his place. He didn’t need to know how Brad Simpson had broken your heart.

Then, Stay dropped.

It was another song about begging a certain someone to come back and how sorry he was for his mistakes. Tom couldn’t help but notice how longingly you looked at the radio when it played and wondered if Brads songs were the only apology he’d ever given you. Tom felt his chest tighten at the lyrics, “darling, won’t you stay here? I promise I can change” ,and wondered if you had told Brad about the fight you’d had with Tom in the dressing room of the Graham Norton show all those months ago.

Tom never thought too deeply into the song until he saw his name and Brads name in a headline on Clevver News. A picture of you and Tom was in the thumbnail, as well as a picture of you and Brad. He looked around to see if you could hear and clicked the video.

“Watch Brad Simpson change the lyrics to “Stay” to diss Tom Holland in an attempt to win back Y/n L/N.” A perky “news” reporter said at the start of the video. Tom bounced his leg as the video played. He saw a sweaty Brad sitting on a stool with his guitar in his arms.

“And darling if you stay here, it won’t be a mistake. We can hide under the duvet, and Tom will have to wait.” Brad sang and let out a laugh. The audience laughed as well and Brad kept singing.

“Now, if you didn’t catch it, Brad clearly said “Tom will have to wait” instead of “time will have to wait”. Fans were quick to notice this little dig at Tom Holland while other fans denied Brad saying it. What do you think? “Did Brad change the words? Is he still trying to win Y/n back?” The news reported asked. Tom junked when he heard you enter the room.

“What are you watching?” You wrapped your arms around Toms neck from behind and kissed his cheek.

“He’s still singing about you.” Tom grumbled as you rubbed his shoulders, showing you the headline on his phone.

“Let him sing.” You shrugged as you sat in Toms lap, giving him a kiss on the cheek. “I’m right where I’m supposed to be.”

Masterlist

Hot chocolate, pajamas, and cookies. A holiday tradition you’ve shared with your best friend for many years. But of course, the cookies always ended up being a complete disaster.

“Ethan!” You shouted from the kitchen.

“What?” Ethan said frantically as he ran into the kitchen. “What’s wrong? Are you okay?”

You picked up a cookie and handed it to him, smiling internally at the fact his first worry was if you got hurt. “Taste this.”

“Why? What’s wrong with them?”

“Just taste it.”

He took a bite of the cookie and seconds later, Ethan was running to the sink to spit it out and rinse it out with some water, “Holy... Why is it? Why is it so s-”

“Salty?” You said laughing at the horror on his face.

“Yeah!” Ethan said walking over to you. “I followed the recipe exactly! It said 1 cup of sugar and 1 tsp of salt!”

You walked over to the cabinet and placed the salt and sugar containers in front of Ethan, “Point to me which one is the salt and which one’s the sugar.”

Ethan pointed to what he thought which was which, explaining the reason why the cookies were so salty.

“Ethan. You mixed up the sugar and the salt!”

“Well how am I supposed to know?! You put them in the same exact container and they look exactly the same!” He attempted to explain himself. Maybe he was right about them easily getting mixed up and you should move them into different containers.

“You could’ve tasted them to make sure!”

“I just went with my gut! You know I don’t bake!” Ethan said.

“I think you made that pretty obvious tonight. Next time I’ll do the baking, like I do every year.” You laughed while getting the frosting.

“You still want to decorate the cookies?” Ethan questioned, knowing now that the cookies were no longer edible.

“Of course.” You smiled at him, meeting those hazel eyes you loved. “It’s a tradition, isn’t it?”

For the next 30 minutes, the two of you decorated cookies, showing each other the good and the bad ones.

“Look who it is.” Ethan said, showing you a cookie cutout of a man which he decorated with some clothes and a mustache.

“Is that supposed to be Grayson?” You laughed as he nodded his head, admiring the way you tilted your head back and the way your hair fell off your shoulders.

A few minutes later, silence fell between the two of you until Ethan said, “You know even though we somehow manage to ruin the cookies every year, I think this tradition is my favorite.”

There he was again with those kind words that never failed to make you smile. It was your favorite too. Every tradition you had with him was your favorite.

“It’s my favorite too.” You said in a hushed tone as he looked over and smiled at you.

“What?” You questioned, noticing his stare as you felt the blood rush to your cheeks.

“Nothing. I um I’m just wondering how you got frosting on your cheek.” He chuckled watching you miss the spot as you attempted to wipe it off.

“Here I got it.” Ethan said softly as he held your cheek while wiping the frosting off with his thumb.

Instinctively, you leaned into his warm hand, wishing this moment could last forever. But then fear struck the both of you. “I um... We should probably start cleaning up.” You said nervously, beginning to clean up your mess and leaving Ethan to sit there wondering what he did wrong.

Eventually the two of you settled into the living room and put on whatever movie you wanted to watch that night, but Ethan didn’t mind it. Just as long as you were happy. However, Ethan would be lying if he said he didn’t feel his heart skip a beat like those many other times he’s been desperately trying to ignore ever since he met you.

Like every year, the movie eventually ended up playing in the background as the two of you became too focused on the conversation you were having with each other.

“Do you know what you’re getting Grayson this year?” You asked before taking a sip of your hot chocolate.

“He’s been really into speedos lately and I have no idea why. But I’m going to get him a razor as a joke to shave that mustache of his.” Ethan said, earning a laugh from you.

“Oh my gosh...I’ve seen so many tweets from fans about that. There was one that compared him to the Mr. Pringles logo and I honestly couldn’t tell the difference.” You said jokingly as the both of you laughed.

Eventually silence fell between the two of you, simply enjoying the comfort of each other’s presence until Ethan handed you a poorly wrapped box with a golden bow on top and said, “Hey I have something for you.”

“E... I thought we said no gifts this year.” You sighed feeling guilty since all you had to give him was a hoodie.

“Yeah I know... I just wanted to get you something. You know just cause.” Ethan shrugged, anxiously waiting for you to open your gift.

“You know I hate when you spend money on me.”

Ethan turned to face you as the both of you sat cross-legged and leaned in a bit as he placed a hand on your knee, “I know. But... just open it.”

You unwrapped the gift and opened the box to reveal two tickets to see Shawn Mendes in concert, something you never thought you would be able to attend. “Ethan... H-How did you get these? I thought his concert was sold out!”

“I may or may not have got them during the pre-sale after you had mentioned wanting to see him in concert.”

“I’ve only mentioned wanting to see him once.” You stated.

“Try twenty times in the past week.” Ethan jokingly said.

“Okay whatever. But these must have cost you so much money! Here let me pay you back. How much were they?” You said frantically grabbing your wallet before Ethan placed his hand on yours to stop you.

“Y/N it’s okay. Really. It’s my gift to you.” Ethan said with a smile on his face.

“Oh my god!” You said leaping up to give him a tight hug, catching him a bit off guard. “Thank you thank you thank you.”

You pulled away and stared at the tickets in your hand, “I can’t believe I’m actually going to see Shawn Mendes!”

“And I know they’re not front row or anything b-” Ethan said as he played with his thumb nervously.

“Ethan. I don’t care if they’re not front row or if they’re nosebleeds. I just... I can’t believe you got these for me.” You said smiling at him, “Thank you for the best gift anyone has ever given me.”

“Anything for you.” Ethan said, pulling you into his side and giving you a kiss on the top of your head. And he meant it. He would do anything in the world to see you so happy.

You cherished the moment for as long as you could, enjoying the warmth and comfort of your best friend. Honestly just movies and hanging out with your best friend would’ve been perfectly fine, but him going out of his way to get you something that made you happy, was a bonus. You would have never thought you’d be so lucky to find someone like him.

“I got something for you too, but it’s not much.” You said pulling away and reaching for the bag by your feet.

You handed Ethan the bag as he accepted it from you and said, “I’ll be happy with whatever you got me. So I’m guessing we both broke our deal about no gifts this year?”

“I guess so.” You shrugged watching him take out the tissue paper, hoping he wouldn’t be too disappointed in what you got him.

“A hoodie! I’ve been meaning to buy more because I don’t know what hap-“ Ethan said as he took out the hoodie from the bag, but suddenly became confused when he realized what he was holding, “Wait. Isn’t this mine?”

“Yeah you gave it to me a while back so now I’m giving it back to you now.” You shrugged.

“So you gave me back my own hoodie? As a gift?” Ethan questioned you.

“Hey in my defense you said no gifts this year!”

“But I still got you something!” Ethan chuckled. He wasn’t mad. He just found it funny because this would be something you would totally do.

“So did I! It just happened to be something... I’m giving back to you.” The truth was the reason why you were giving it back to him was because it didn’t smell like him anymore.

Sure he had a closet full of them you could steal from, but this one reminded you of how lucky you were to have Ethan in your life.

*flashback*

It was freezing cold tonight and you were stupid enough not to bring a jacket to a bonfire with some friends. Some of them you only knew of, such as Ethan and Grayson Dolan.

You were so captivated by the story Grayson was telling that you didn’t realize your marshmallow caught on fire and that someone sat next to you until they grabbed your marshmallow stick, “Whoa. Careful.”

“Oh my gosh. I should’ve been paying attention. Thank you.” You said slightly embarrassed before looking up at who had saved your marshmallow.

The moment you met his hazel eyes, you felt breathless. It was one of those moments you swore time had stopped. Those eyes. Those dreamy, hazel eyes you would soon learn to love.

“Here you can have mine.” He offered as he handed you his perfect smore.

“Thanks Ethan.” You accepted the offer and took a bite, letting the combination of roasted marshmallow, chocolate, and graham cracker fill your mouth

“You know who I am?”

“Who doesn’t? I’m Y/N.” You said putting your hand out for him to shake as he did the same.

His large hand was probably twice as yours, crushing your much smaller hand, but somehow his hand was warm on this cold night. “You cold?” Ethan asked, feeling how cold your hand was.

You rubbed your arm, looking into the fire as you finished your smore. “Um no I’m go-”

Before you could finish, Ethan was taking off his hoodie and handing it to you. “Here. Take this. It’ll keep you warm.”

“Ethan it’s okay really. I’m fine.” You said, beginning to push the hoodie back towards him.

“You’re practically freezing right now.” Ethan chuckled.

“What about you? Won’t you be cold?” You asked.

“I’ll be okay. I was getting hot anyway.” Ethan reassured you with a smile.

“Thanks.” You said before putting on the sweatshirt as his scent surrounded you.

Ethan nodded his head as he listened to Grayson go on about his story, desperately trying to stop himself from staring at you. Even though he had met you just a few moments ago, there was just something about you that made him feel so drawn to you. Was it your smile? The way the fire made you glow? Maybe it was...everything.

Between the talking and stolen glances, somehow time passed by without you knowing until Grayson came over and put his arm around Ethan. “Hey man it’s getting pretty late. I think we should go soon.”

You could tell Ethan was surprised by the sudden touch of his brother as you watched his eyes widen, “So I guess I should get going.”

“Well it was nice talking to you Ethan.” You smiled at him as he did the same.

“Bye Y/N.” Ethan said before walking away towards Grayson.

Typically, it took you a very long time to feel comfortable around someone, despite how long you had known them for. But there was something about Ethan that made you feel so safe and comfortable around him, that you could be yourself without having to put on a fake smile. Maybe it’s the way his voice was so calming or maybe it was everything.

Looking down, you had realized you were still wearing his hoodie. But luckily he wasn’t too far away so you grabbed your things and jogged towards him, calling out his name. “Ethan!”

He quickly turned around and saw you approaching him, “You okay? Do you need a ride home?”

“No. No, I'm all good. I drove here myself.” You were flattered by how caring he was. “I forgot I was still wearing your hoodie.”

You began taking the hoodie off when Ethan stopped you, “Y/N just keep it.”

“What? Why?”

“Just take it.” Ethan reassured you. “It looks better on you anyways.”

You could feel a smile form on your face, not knowing what to say. How can someone be so incredibly kind? “Thank you.”

“I’ll see you later, Y/N. Drive safe, okay?” Ethan said as he began to walk backwards towards his car.

“Bye Ethan.” You said as the feeling of excitement and happiness consumed you before walking away towards your car, the smile never leaving your face.

Ethan got into his car as Grayson stared at him, “What?”

“Nothing. I’m just wondering why you just gave Y/N your favorite hoodie.” Grayson asked with a smug grin on his face.

“She was cold. That’s all.” Ethan said as he started up the car.

“Bro, you don’t even let me wear that hoodie and we’re twins!” Grayson laughed.

“Whatever man. It’s nothing. Let’s just go home.” Ethan said putting the car in reverse.

“If that’s your story.” Grayson chuckled at his brother, but he knew this was more than just nothing.

And so did the both of you.

**end of flashback**

Since that day, you’ve learned to love his aroma. It somehow provided you comfort and filled the missing piece of Ethan when he was out of town. So when it started to lose his scent, why not give it back and have it smell like him again?

“Oh so it’s not even a gift for me? It’s really just for you? This was my favorite hoodie you know?” Ethan teased pointing to soft material he held in his other hand.

“And it’s my favorite too! I wear it all of the time.” You attempted to explain to him, but by the look on Ethan’s face, you knew he wasn’t going to budge. “Look, just think of it this way. You get your hoodie back... for now and when I ask to borrow a hoodie one night then I’ll just take that one! We’re sharing it!”

You couldn’t tell him the truth about why you loved the hoodie so much. Maybe you were afraid that he would think that it’s weird. Or maybe because you were afraid of him finding out about how much you loved him.

“Alright fine.” Ethan chuckled as he put the bag down before putting on the hoodie. “But you have to admit, this looks better on me anyways.”

You shoved him lightly and said, “You wish. You even said it yourself that it looks better on me.”

“Whatever.” Ethan said as he pulled you to his side, keeping his arm around your shoulders, “Let’s just finish the movie.”

As the two of you sat there watching the movie, Ethan had noticed a small little heart with your first initial and the letter E embroidered onto the wrist that wasn’t there before. He nudged you lightly and asked, “Hey what’s this?”

He held out the sleeve in front of you for you to see, “Um a little while ago I accidentally ripped a little hole there so I sewed it up. I hope you don’t mind. I can take it out if you want.”

“No no It’s okay. I really like it.” Ethan said looking down at you with a smile on his face, intertwining his fingers with yours.. “It makes the hoodie really feel like it’s mine.”

He couldn’t focus on the movie anymore. All he could do was feel his heart pound against his chest. Everything in that moment had felt so right. Everything with you felt right.

Eventually you fell asleep as Ethan held you close beside him and stared at the heart on his sleeve. He knew from that night when you two met, you would be in his life for a while, but never like this. He never expected to be so drawn to someone, so captivated. He never expected to be so close to someone other than Grayson and he sure as hell never expected to fall in love with you.

You were wondering if you should or not answer the quiz. You didn’t. You stood up finally from the warm blankets and stared at your reflection. Thinking about your past love life wasn’t exactly a dream come true.

Oh gosh, you had made many mistakes. Who was the biggest one?

Shawn? No, you had loved Shawn. He had been the one to push the right buttons to help you make you smile. It was a good start, good, good, good start.

You walked over to the window, it was raining, the day was cold and you were not in the mood to go out. It was just a call away, just a simple call away. You stared at your phone and looked through your contacts, it was easy. But it couldn’t be as simple.

So you decided you needed to clear your mind. You needed to get ready before the night, which, hell, was it going to be awkward.

You were going to go to the Graham Norton Show, and to your luck, your dear ex, Harry was going to be there.

Just thinking about how things had ended made you shiver, it had been a lie that relationship, a way to make you forget. To help you avoid the blue. Harry had been understanding, yet… It didn't feel right.

You went out to the streets of London, alone. Maybe you were better off without him. So many nice words had been said, silly in love.

It was awful being lonely at these kinds of times, because whenever you were lonely you thought about him, the good times, the smiles, the kisses.

You started to remember.

The constant headache you were familiar with wasn’t helping while you were trying to fall in love with Harry. Ah, and that headache had a full name. Tom, that was his name. And it was a name that stuck out in the crowd. Let alone his last name, which for sake of the story will remain unnamed, for now, because honestly, you knew it too well. Ugh, damned Holland. But you got the catch. Yes, your next relationship had been at the expense of the rebound. And it hadn’t been the best. Because, of course: his lips reminded you of Tom’s.

After that night you and Tom had shared you had decided you wanted more than just a game, you wanted to keep tasting the sweet poison of his lips. It took you no time to realize Shawn hadn’t been a match, he was young, stupid and probably not the right man for you, yet he had come in the right time. Oh, but what could you do, you were a sucker for the wrong guys. He had been another one.

Yet, Tom wasn’t. Tom wasn’t just another guy to add to the list. And if it wasn’t the fact that you were keeping him as a secret.

You kept seeing each other, in an innocent way. Completely innocent...Ha, who were you kidding? There was nothing innocent about that. You see, around your breakup, Tom’s breakup had happened. So of course, you both had agreed, or not agreed, but just at the same time decided that you’d use each other to forget the past memories.

You were lonely, you needed someone and having Tom around maybe meant something. But there couldn’t be only sex, because it couldn’t be like that.

If you were honest to yourself, it happened a few other times, maybe twice, or three times? Who’s counting, anyway? You both were helping each other or more like you gave each other company. It was a friendship, or maybe it wasn’t but, oh well. You never talked about it. It wasn’t planned, no, not planned at all. Or talked at all. Were you supposed to talk about it?

That night that had started it had been stupid, completely stupid. Or was it? Because your head on his shoulder fit and your hands would play with each other because some kisses on foreheads would warm your heart. Nah, it was completely platonic. Or so Tom tried to make it.

Soft talking, playing gently, smiling warmly, and you were floating away. He had you completely wrapped around his finger. And you had been hiding it for so long because no one should fall in love with the close people. You didn’t want him to let you down, and that meant having nothing with him.

Yet, you couldn’t stop yourself from wondering how it would feel to have a statement.

After your breakup with Shawn, you were having way more fun, you were hanging out more with your friends, and especially you were around Tom more.

No, Shawn hadn’t been all that bad, he had been good. Good person, honestly. You had learned a lot from him. For instance, it was a relationship that had made you happy, while it lasted. Shawn had been nervous around Tom, of course, he was right. He had taught you, you could love.

Enough about that, not long enough, already every single gossip magazine, tv show and site was talking about your breakup. People were talking about how devastated you were. You’d laugh about it, sure it had been bad but you definitely weren’t in your room crying. Oh, no, because you had fallen in love.

Something you had to admit was that with Shawn you had realized that you were able to love, no, it wasn't just something of a fairy tale. And Shawn, oh he had loved you. He had fallen with you deeply, but you didn't just let yourself fall completely. Because, of course, you had bad luck. But Shawn had taught you it was okay to fall, it was okay, take the risk, fall in love.

You were the one with the bad reputation, you were the one who kept dating. Being afraid of feeling was just the price life had set you to live. Because it seemed like every time you dared to give your broken pieces to someone, they crushed it and broke your heart even more.

And it took you a while to get used to the attention, and to the paparazzi asking about your breakup. Why did they have to know it? They were just reminding you to keep crying. Tom would make you happy, however.

But Harry, Harry came along.

You had met him, funnily enough, in an interview with one of the night hosts, they made you play this game which basically involved spilling all your secrets, or else eating something disgusting. Corden had had a great time with that, you didn’t of course. One of the questions had involved Tom, and that had been awkward. But you had answered it simply: ‘No, we are friends!’

What a big fat lie. No, that was not a friendship, but hey they didn’t have to know. Besides, you were just a little ball of fear. You were a great actress, though, you were hiding the fact that you couldn’t stop crying.

You had moved on. You were convinced that you were better off without him, you could finally breathe, be yourself, start again, cleanse your soul.

But it was fun, it certainly was fun.

And Harry kept flirting the whole interview, but it didn’t go there, no, it was just the start. As usual, you didn’t flirt back, you’d just smile and nod away the awkwardness. Yes, you knew you had a bad reputation but that didn’t mean it was true.

Yet, you saw him, Harry was at some awards show, and you talked. And after him asking and asking, you gave in. He had asked you out.

Obviously, Tom was the first to know about it. You were having an amazing time with him, you were going out, on dates? Were they dates? You weren’t sure and you were too afraid to ask at that point. Yes, there was kissing, but no there was nothing more than that, just hugging and in some cases, kisses on cheeks. It didn’t go beyond that, or did it? A few times, it did.

The whole relationship was weird, you didn’t know what else would happen.

So, the day Harry had finally asked you out, you decided it was a moment to tell Tom.

The conversation was a satire.

“So,” you had talked after the credits were rolling up, you had been watching a movie, a classic, which you hadn’t actually watched because you had had your head focused on Harry. You had your head on his shoulder and you had a blanket covering both of you. You were wearing one of his hoodies. It had been a quiet time, just watching a movie, keeping company. Was that a relationship?

Tom had just looked over at you and smiled, just before throwing some of the left popcorn. “You didn’t pay any attention to the movie,” he pointed out.

“I was...thinking,” you spoke with your voice soft.

“Dangerous pastime.” Tom frowned as he watched you.

“Nothing has been stated,” you continued as you watched him. He shrugged.

“About?” Tom frowned, and then stood up.

“Harry asked me out,” you blurted it without even thinking. It was easier and quicker. Just get the thing done, y/n, get the thing done.

“Oh.” Such a powerful word when it comes to answers. That ‘Oh’ could mean a lot of things, good and bad.

A part of you wanted him to stop you, you wanted him to say: ‘Oh, but aren’t we a thing?’ ‘Oh, I was going to ask you to be my girlfriend?’ ‘Oh’, ‘Oh’, ‘Oh.’

His answer, however, wasn’t what you expected.

“Oh, are you going out with him, then?” Tom smiled. “You should, he’s handsome.”

That hadn’t been the sentence you had wanted after the Oh. It was OH, so different. Needless to say, you were brokenhearted. He had stepped on your heart.

And that, that was the reason why you hadn’t opened up. You had stopped, to think. You needed to distract yourself from that.

“Uh, well, I probably will,” that had been the official statement.

And you had gone on a date with Harry. Harry, or how you decided to call it, your distraction. Your official way to get Tom out of your head.

And you were trying, and trying not to think about it, because oh boy, it felt wrong. It was wrong, to have someone else while you were thinking about Tom. In each kiss, your soul was a traitor.

You were thinking about Tom.

How could you fight it? You couldn’t if the heart had already made a decision, and if Tom had already decided it, if Tom had decided he wanted nothing with you, then that was it. No, he wasn’t meant to be for you.

And it hurt, it hurt. But if he wasn’t for you then you wanted all the stars to fall of the sky because no, Tom was what you wanted.

How could you resist?

You kissed Harry’s lips and it tasted like Tom’s. You wanted to say Tom’s name, and you had to stop.

You needed to resist. But Tom’s lips hurt because they were poison.

You needed to convince yourself that Tom wasn’t for you.

Soon enough, people were talking about you and Harry, you were the new couple, and you received both hate and love. And time after time, you started to fall for Harry, eventually.

But each time Harry wrapped his arms around you all you could feel was Tom’s warmth. You closed your eyes, and you felt like you were cheating on him because your love wasn’t his. You wanted the ashes to burn already.

Because, oh, his lips didn’t taste like Tom’s. And his name wasn’t Tom, and you couldn’t stop.

You started to resist. Because you knew that Tom was poison, and poison kills you.

You had already convinced yourself that Tom wasn’t for you.

You drifted away from Tom, but he kept pulling you back to him. And Harry noticed it, and he asked about it, and oh could you desist? The heart knows what it wants.

It wasn’t easy. It was dangerous, dangerous, dangerous. But soon, you found yourself in a Sunday Sky. And people liked you with Harry, it was good. People liked it.

But did you?

Who were you trying to fool? You had missed your chance because you had changed your dreams for a few smiles. But you couldn’t forget Tom, because he had been there when you had needed him, he had made you discover so many things about yourself. His form to show you, you could stand up again, he had made you strong. He never left you alone, and you couldn’t forget that your love for him had taught you that you could keep on going.

Yet, it seemed that all you had learned with him, didn’t apply to his case. Because you couldn’t get out of that whole you had to dig yourself in.

It was wrong, it seemed that you hadn’t learned your lesson. Because that which you had learned with Tom after Shawn had gone to trash, because you didn’t love Harry. You felt a lot of things, but none of them was love. Because you were crazy, crazy, crazy in love with Tom.

Thomas Holland. Y/N Holland. Gosh, were you five? Daydreaming about him. Thinking about him at inappropriate times.

What was your guess?

You’d walk, think, and just...You grew into it. Because it took you time, it took you a long time to fall, and you had to be patient. Patience was needed. You needed to understand yourself because you were in love with the person who had broken your heart.

It was merely platonic.

But your gaze and your smile couldn’t hide your feelings, you were thrown back each time Tom was around.

Harry was amazing, yes, incredible, absolutely, breathtaking even. But he wasn’t Tom. He would say he’d love you forever, he said he’d bring you the stars, the moon. Promises, you know?

Oh, the crap the heart makes you say when you’re in love. And you said you loved him back. Ha, as if. You promised you would never hurt him. And you weren’t planning on it. Tom was single and that made your skin burn, not even a cold shower could calm you. His thought would haunt you.

And you would say, ‘you’re the only one, my love’, and Harry was, physically. But you were not emotionally his, your kisses were empty.

Yet soon enough, you were getting used to the idea, your whole purpose was to forget and move on. Start again, and you were getting to it.

Harry wasn’t as happy when you were with Tom, because you continued seeing him. Of course, now it truly was innocent, platonic but that didn’t help you through. You were friends with Tom, Harry knew that. Yet that didn’t stop him from being kind of insecure around him.

Things had gone downhill for a while, but you knew you were starting to fall in love with Harry. It was so simple, you know?

It was simply the day you stopped seeing Tom because he had gone out to film somewhere. And after not being with him around, it finally happened.

It was the day you were helping him out with some things he needed to get around, he was writing something, you were learning your lines to the new movie you’d be in. You were both in his living room. His gaze frowned and you were repeating stuff to yourself.

It was something so conventional, a day-to-day thing. Nothing spectacular, he was letting you play with his hair. You stopped reading to watch him, his eyes were too beautiful, and he licked his lips to concentrate, his frown to get himself focused was too interesting. His fingers were caressing the paper he was reading, his foot was tapping with a beat, and his eyelashes were like ocean waves.

And he just stopped to look up and give you a smile, such a genuine way to show you he loved you.

At that moment, you fell for him.

And it was a sunny sky again. Tom wasn’t in your thoughts anymore. You wanted to give the whole world to Harry then, make up for the time you had made him wait.

And Harry knew, oh he knew well that you needed your time. But Harry, Harry had been patient.

“I love you,” you had whispered after he had smiled at you, and his face had brightened up.

“You mean it,” Harry had mumbled with surprise.

You felt fragile, you felt normal, you felt you again.

Well, that didn’t last. Sure, you were flying like Superman in the sky, again back on writing poetry, singing stupid love songs, looking out at starry nights. You closed the door. Took you long enough, y/n. But you were patient. Most importantly, Harry taught you how to be patient.

Until a night you were with Tom. You were watching him from afar, with Harry holding your hand and kissing your cheek. You were laughing, you were at a premier. You didn’t know Tom had been invited.

Of course, he had been invited, it was a Marvel movie. He needed to be invited. And all your senses had broken, you were sweating, hyperventilating even. Tom was there, in a suit and with his stupid smile that could knock you out. It was incredibly stupid. You had to convince yourself you weren't in love with him, you were in love with Harry. But when Tom hugged you and posed with you at the cameras, you were lost.

Back again in his lies, you stared too long into his eyes, and he took your heart. Pieces of emotions, fear, love, anger, everything. You were being too complicated, and you had to attack the problem.

“y/n! y/n! A picture, please! Can you give a smile to the camera?” The paps were yelling as you were still staring at Tom. You shook your head and stared back at them, smiling.

And you didn’t want to face the truth.

Harry approached you eventually, and he had said hello to Tom. And you had talked and laughed, and you were shivering. And Tom was sometimes too close, whispering to your ears.

The simple game he liked to play. And just one more smile, and he had you. He had you begging for his gaze, those damned chocolate eyes. Those stupid curls. Big angel he was. And you were begging him to break your heart again because your heart was his.

Tom owned you, heart and soul.

He had you hypnotized.

Unfortunately, not only had you noticed it. Harry had too.

That conversation hadn’t been pretty, but it hadn’t gone as bad. It had not taken him a while, just a few days, actually. But he had exploded.

“I’m sorry, y/n, I can’t keep up this lie.” An initial statement that wasn’t going to lead anywhere good. “I can’t continue.”

“Harry?” Was all you could make out aloud.

“I can’t deny I feel a lot for you, but I can’t help it and avoid what’s really going through your heart,” he had continued. “Look, come… come here,” and he had opened his arms, and you had hugged him, letting his scent fill you once more.

“I’m sorry, y/n,” he said again. “I’ve tried, and I’d love to say that I didn’t know what is wrong, but it’s clear, and I...I’ve got to admit, I’m sorry I wasn’t enough.”

“No, Harry…”

“No, no, it’s okay, we are what it was, and we were what isn’t anymore,” he looked down at you as he finally let you go.

And he was right, you were right by each other, but you were miles apart. You, you were miles apart.

“I’m sorry,” you whispered. “I tried, Harry... I just....”

“I know you did.”

You had found yourself crying because you had lost something you had had. Something that was yours, but you were never his. And gosh, it hurt, a lot. After a few days of non-stop crying because you had now been the one with the mistake, you felt guilty, guilty, guilty.

But, life was giving you a second chance. It was your chance to go up to Tom. But it wasn’t right, you couldn’t move on that fast. Oh, and you hadn’t. Because you hadn’t moved on from Tom in the first time. No, you were never over Tom.

And it didn’t take you a long time, because the moment you knew you were both back in London, you had gone to his place. With the little courage, you had left, you had rung his doorbell.

He had opened up the door, his eyes on his phone, he had glanced up, taking in your image and sighed. He realized you had been crying, and he probably guessed it quickly. Without hesitation, he had opened up his arms.

That night, that night had happened nothing. But you had cried on his arms, with him holding you close and kissing your forehead. You made love that night, and no, not in the way everyone thinks, but the innocent way, with him holding you, with him stopping you from crying, with him making you realize you weren’t so wrong for loving him.

No body had been undressed, no lips were kissed, no passion was held. Just Tom, comforting you, without knowing he had been the one to hurt you. Just Tom, without knowing you were falling deeper. Just Tom, thinking you were crying about Harry. Just Tom, making you wait again.

Good thing, though, good thing Harry had taught you patience.

There was just one more victim, one more victim until you were about to lose it all.

But hey, it’d be oh, so amazing.

Top 10 Characters that deserved better.

10 Alexis Glenn from Famous in Love

Despite my problems with this character I wasn’t very pleased with her treatment on the show Famous in Love. Yes I know she was a snob and behaved like a jealous bitch but I felt she had some redeeming qualities about her. For one thing I would have her accept the fact she was bisexual and not have those run of the mill lame excuses as in “I don’t like labels” bisexual isn’t a bad word. I also would have her apologize to Paige for how she treated her and maybe they can get along but they don’t have to be besties. Another thing I didn’t like was her being used by Jake and then being dropped like a hat just because things didn’t work out in his favor. No one deserves that. I also felt she deserved better than to be used by Ida. I would love to give Lexi a redemption arc.

9. Milah from Once Upon a Time.

Even though I didn’t really care for Milah, I felt she deserved better than to be killed by Rumple twice. The first time having her heart ripped out and crushed literally and then being thrown into the lake of lost souls. I felt she had remorse for leaving Baelfire/Neal behind. I honestly felt she could have given Belle advice on how to leave Rumple and they could have become friends or something. Anyways she deserved to move on from the under world not be thrown in a lake of lost souls.

8.Belle French Once Upon a Time

I am convinced that Adam and Eddie hated Belle. First off why did they keep her in a relationship with a man who lies to her, manipulates her and has told her multiple times he won’t change. Yet here she is going back to this man again and again. She kept going back to Rumple and even enabled him. She was once so scared of him that she felt that her child would be better off away from the father. Not only does she get lied to and manipulated she gets mind raped, raped if Belle and Rumple had sex in the fantasy world where Rumple was the Bright One. He even went so far as to stalk her and put a tracking bracelet on her to know where she was at all times. Belle always looked scared of Rumple and was always backing away from him. That relationship should have ended when Belle banned Rumple from Storybrooke. Nope she gets forced back in a toxic relationship and even Emilie De Raven said that she wouldn’t give Rumple as many chances. I know I have said this before but I am going to say it again. Belle should have been bisexual and go be happy with Ruby or OUAT should have introduced Prince Adam. Any one of those relationships would have been better than Rumbelle.

7 Logan Huntzberger

I thought Logan was one of the most well developed characters on Gilmore Girls as in the original series. When we first meet him he was promiscuous and slept around. However, he was fully willing to commit to Rory and become the boyfriend she needed and wanted. He was allowed to grow and develop. All was going great with his character until the revival. He and Rory are both cheating with each other on their significant others and Amy seem to make Logan resort to his fuck boy ways. I am sorry to Matt Czuchry who had to play a digressed character and props to you for making Logan likable despite the way he was written.

6. Angela Moore Boy/Girl Meets World (Using the Collage because I loved the Versatility Angela had on Boy Meets World I did not make this Collage BTW)

I know I keep bringing her up but I can’t help it. I am so bitter that Girl Meets World committed defamation of a black female character. They bent and twisted the narrative to make Angela look like a villain and they also made her look like one more person that mindlessly abandon Shawn when that is not the case. She left to Europe with her father and she was going to come back and be with Shawn. Now in Girl Meets World she was just another person who abandon Shawn? No that is so disrespectful and this completely racist how she got treated. Also I don’t want anyone to come at me and tell me the treatment she got wasn’t racially related. Seriously look how the other characters got treated as in the white characters got treated then look at how Michael Jacobs treated his only black female character from Boy Meets World. She was the only main black character period and all she got was paid dust. So yeah her treatment whether or not it was unintended was absolutely racist.

5. Hazel Alden Degrassi

Degrassi literally had no idea what to do with this character. She was on the show for six seasons and only got one single story line about her Muslim back ground and we didn’t get that story line until season 2. She was there as a “main character” so Degrassi could pat themselves on the back for diversity brownie points. Andrea Lewis (Actress for Hazel) did the best with what she had tow work with but it wasn’t much. She was there to be Paige’s side kick and to help aid white character’s story lines. She honestly felt like the Christie to Paige’s Barbie. 4. Audery from Descendants

I know she is a classist snob and I know she wasn’t the nicest but she didn’t deserve to have her boyfriend stolen from her be dumped in front of the entire school. She deserved to be a more fleshed out character. I mean I wouldn’t really like someone who put a love drug on my boyfriend stole him from me and then he broke up with me in front of the entire school. Anyways Audery deserved better and didn’t deserve to be humiliated.

3. Graham from Once Upon a Time

I am so bitter how Once Upon a Time treated him. He was used abused and then killed off. Adam and Eddie still this day deny that he was raped by Regina.He had his heart ripped out literally as punishment for not killing Snow White. Regina’s ultimatum was basically “Do what I say or you die” and he literally has no choice because his heart in is Regina’s possession and now he is under a curse without his heart so he really has to do what Regina says without even being aware of the “Why” of the situation. This all changes when Emma comes to town and when he kisses Emma he starts to remember he is actually the Huntsmen. The moment he starts to take back control from Regina she kills him by crushing his heart. To me that is not even the worst thing about this situation its the fact that this issue is never addressed and Regina is never called out for raping Graham.

2 Mulan From Once Upon a Time

I used this picture because my heart breaks for this gorgeous character. Mulan a bisexual Asian woman is paid dust and yes it is confirmed she is bisexual by the writers and it honestly feels like Adam and Eddie want to pat themselves on the back for the so called “representation.” Mulan arguably the biggest bad ass of the Disney Princesses was reduced to being an aid for white character story lines. She wasn’t allowed to have a love interest despite everyone around her got to have a love interest and she just kept getting screwed over. I am forever bitter about Sleeping Warrior. That ship had the best chemistry the best build up only for the writers to go the hetro normative route with Aurora. Then we had have been with Ruby and we could have gotten Mulan Rouge. That didn’t happen either. She deserved much better than to be a token character of color to only aid in white character story lines. The treatment of Mulan on Once Upon a Time and the treatment of Angela on Girl Meets World will forever leave a bitter taste in my mouth.

Finally Number 1 Dinah Laurel Lance’/ Black Canary/Black Siren

I am forever bitter on how Arrow treated their most iconic female super hero character. In the comics Dinah Lance was her own hero, was a member of the Justice League and she helped co-find her own hero team called Birds of Prey. She helped people like Sin Lance (Asian character later white washed by Arrow) Helped Roy Harper through his drug addiction and morally centered and is one of the best hand to hand combat fighters. She is up on Batman’s level of hand to hand fighting. However in Arrow she is treated like shit, had a boyfriend who serial cheated on her with her sister, and now he is a dad a child where the baby momma is another woman he cheated with while he was with Laurel. The show had people gas light her and when she finally exploded all of a sudden it was her fault because god forbid she responds like a normal human to being treated like shit for no reason. Sara never apologized to Laurel she just went back to fucking Oliver again despite the fact that is why the Lance family fell apart. Laurel was told she was never good enough to be the Black Canary despite she is the damn Black Canary in the comics. She has helped out Sara and Oliver multiple times despite the fact they are the reason she had to deal with her family falling a part. The people on the show continued to miss treat her. Not once did she get an apology by Oliver or Sara she had to call them out first. Then after the horrible treatment, the gas lighting and mental abuse they show runners decide to kill her off for Olicity. Her dying words are about how Olicity and propping up Oliver and his relationship with Felicity. First off “HOW FUCKING DARE YOU GUYS DO THAT TO LAUREL’ 2 You damn well know how Oliver treated Laurel so you have some damn nerve to do that! Then you have Black Siren get knocked out by Felicity despite the fact she could get up after getting hit by a car on the Flash. Then you weaken her Canary cry when on the Flash it took out a whole building but on Arrow it barely makes the room shake. Then on the Flash great hand to hand combat skills only for her to be easily taken down by team Arrow. The thing that makes me most angry and bitter about this is that I know Katie Cassidy Rodgers actually did her homework on the character she was playing, I know KCR worked out for this role and she was so excited to be in this role. She even had costume design ideas for her Black Canary Suit and you kill her character off for shock value and you wait two episodes before to tell her that Laurel will be the one in the grave. This absolutely disrespectful to the actress and this proves how lazy these writers are.

Anyways this was my rant on characters who deserved better. I would love to know your thoughts.

Interview with Graham Lau Part 2

Here’s the second part of my conversation with Graham Lau about space exploration to help promote the Kickstarter for my new comic Astrobiology #1! It’s a sci-fi comic about a scientist and a soldier working together to explore alien worlds for new and unique forms of life that change our understanding of life itself.

Speaking of exoplanets, which of the exoplanets that we've seen orbiting around distant stars look the most promising for life? I know pretty much all of them have flaws, like they're super-Earths, they're five times the size of Earth, or they're tidally locked, or just blasted with radiation. If you had to say, what are your top picks?

You know, I might not actually be the best to answer that question. My friends, Daniel Angerhausen would be a great person to ask. So would Giada Arney, or Shawn Domogal-Goldman. I have a few friends who are doing really hardcore exoplanet research...I'm sure they all have their own list of favorites.

I know we've talked a lot about the Trappist planets, about Proxima B, and some of these other potential worlds that could be Earth-like. However, until we get good data, I'm always a little hesitant when I hear people saying “habitable zone” and “Earth-like planet”. Just because a world is about the size of the Earth and is in a similar orbit around its star as we are around ours, it doesn't necessarily make it Earth-like, in my opinion.

And so, I think until we have James Webb, and some of these other potential next generation telescopes coming out that can give us a much better idea of the atmospheres of those worlds, and then actually help us figure out what could be the geology of those worlds...it's hard to say if they're Earth-like or not.

So they could have a completely different distribution of minerals and elements. Even though it's in the same zone, if it doesn't have any carbon or whatever, it would be nothing like Earth at all?

Yeah, there could be very, very different geology. There could be a number of worlds that, much like Mars, have lost their magnetic field and had their atmosphere stripped away. Perhaps they didn't have as much metal material in their cores as the Earth. For instance, we have the Moon forming event that brought even more core material to us.

However, we also look at planets like Venus. Venus is very much like Earth. It's almost the same size, it's almost the same general composition overall...and yet the surface of Venus is a hellscape. It's 850 degrees fahrenheit, and 95 times the surface pressure we have.

And maybe worlds like Venus are far more common of these Earth-size worlds out there. And we just don't know yet. So we really need more data on the atmospheres, because that will help us then constrain some of the potential geology that could be going on down on the planet below.

Is silicon-based life, and life based on different elements...is that something that's seriously entertained and thought about?

Yes and no. You know, the idea of silicon life has been talked about starting off in science fiction. But silicon is very similar to carbon. It can make those four bonds like carbon does, and it can build long chains. But silicon-based compounds aren't nearly as strong as carbon. So the bonds that silicon makes with other atoms of itself aren't as strong as those carbon to carbon bonds as carbon to other element bonds.

So having silicon-based life, though a lot of us talk about it and consider whether or not it's possible, it doesn't really seem very likely. Unless, for some reason, you have a world that has more silicon than carbon.

Even then, I read that silicon has drawbacks, right? It's not as easy as carbon, even if you could do it?

Yeah, exactly. So those silicon bonds aren't strong, so the molecules are more likely to break down. It might not be as good for transferring energy. However, that said, a lot of the terrestrial worlds in our solar system are called “silicate planets”. They have a lot of silicon, a lot of oxygen, in the crusts of these worlds.

And so, it's always weird, we can never say “It's not possible”. What we have to do is use science to figure out whether or not its probable. And so right now, I think the jury's still out as to whether or not silicon life is a thing or could be a thing.

Water is usually talked about as one of the most important things necessary for life. But I was reading that Carl Sagan said he was a “carbon chauvinist”, but “not really much of a water chauvinist”. Could it be that life could use some kind of different liquid for a solvent besides water?

Yeah, and that's something that actually has been researched really extensively. People have considered whether liquid ammonia or methane or ethane, if super critical carbon dioxide, if various other fluids and fluid-like substances could be the solvents for life.

For instance, we have Titan, the largest moon of Saturn, and Titan has these lakes of ethane and methane. The surface of Titan is very cold. So cold that life as we know it wouldn't be able to thrive there.

Beneath the surface?

At the surface, actually. Some of us wonder if there's a potential that these lakes, these hydrocarbon lakes on Titan, could be refugia for life. If there could be things thriving in these hydrocarbon rich lakes at the surface of Titan, just down inside the waterbody.

There's even been a concept design of a submarine that would land on the lakes, and then go down into the fluid to have a look around in this hydrocarbon rich fluid and see if there could be something living down there. Once you get down below the surface, things actually warm up. And a lot of times the surface is actually water ice.

But Titan has that really intriguing methanological cycle where methane is going up, is evaporating into the atmosphere, and then reacting with sunlight at the upper edges of the atmosphere and breaking down. And then all these chemical reactions are occurring, making these larger hydrocarbons, ethane, propane, butane, and a whole slew of other things. So we have this gunk, basically raining out of Titan and infiltrating the atmosphere.

And so, if life can thrive in that kind of solvent system, it'd be interesting to go there and actually look and see if any kind of life is on Titan for us to find..

Are you frustrated at all by political processes slowing this down? Because to me, it seems like number one priority is to send something to Enceladus or Europa or Titan. But it seems like it takes a long time to do that and it's very hard to get the political will to fund it.

Absolutely, yeah. I think all of us are bothered by it. NASA's budget is the best it's ever been right now, and we're hoping to keep having it get better and better. But that said, NASA's budget is such a small amount of the overall budget of the federal government of the United States.

Right.

The amount of money that we spend on military compared to NASA is just staggering. And even though I'm all for having a really well developed military and spending our money there, the way that we do it isn't necessarily the smartest. And we waste a lot of money there as well. I would love to see if we could double NASA's budget or triple NASA'S budget, the number of things that we could do would just be incredible. And there's so much that we could do, if we had more funding and more support.

That said though, NASA's doing a pretty spectacular job. It's difficult to launch things. I mean, you know it really is rocket science. Launching these things into space, building the spacecraft...we've had some incredible spacecraft here in our lifetimes. Opportunity we just lost on Mars, after it had roved for 14 and a half years of what should have been a 90 day mission.

We keep having amazing spacecraft. We had Cassini and Galileo studying the Saturnian and Jovian systems for us. The Hubble space telescope has just been incredible. And so I'm pretty hopeful for the next generation of spacecraft. But yeah, it is certainly frustrating that, as much as we know already about our place in the universe, that we're not then taking the next steps even faster to go and explore more. And instead, we’re kind of hindering ourselves, and we're becoming a more tunnel vision, narrow focused kind of species. When we could be looking more broader, and looking out into the cosmos to learn more about who we are and why we're here.

Right. Talking about the budget, to double NASA's budget, that would be like to take .5% from the military budget. Doubling NASA's budget would be nothing in the grand scope of military budget.

Yeah. It'd be just a small little bit of what they get. But the return though is so much longer lasting. And honestly, I think space exploration and the things that we return from NASA, the data and the images, the sounds...these are things that really inspire young people to want to think beyond themselves, to want to think about their place in the cosmos as well. And so I really think space exploration is one of the greatest ways for us to do a better job of taking care of own planet.

And a what a lot of people say is, “We got problems on Earth. Why are we focusing on space?” But I think something people don't realize is the amount of technology and advances that we create through NASA by going on these missions and stuff. Aren't MRI's a big one?

There's a lot of technologies, a lot of science that we get out of space exploration. Material science comes from it. Having to learn new ways to build better materials for building our spacecrafts into space...that then trickles back into everything else we do in technology. Our computer systems, things like that, really cut their teeth on space exploration, on getting humans to the Moon. And that forced us to think more about what we were doing there.

So yeah, there's a lot we get back from it as far as technology goes. But I think the return on investment, just in the amount that we can inspire people and get them intrigued and wanting to be involved, is huge. For myself, as a communicator of science, every week, I get Facebook messages and e-mails and Twitter messages and Instagram messages, from young people around the globe, from Egypt and Morocco and South Africa and India and the UK and Russia, all kinds of places.

People want to get involved, they want to find out how they can get involved in space exploration, what they can learn, how they can help. And so, I find it kind of inspiring that a lot of people around the globe want to see us do more space exploration, want to see us do better. And I think a lot of that comes from the inspiration they get just be seeing the images and hearing about what we're learning about these other worlds.
