He made his sexuality a topic of public discussion when he PUBLICLY insinuated he was bi, had to PUBLICLY retract said statement, and then had to PUBLICLY come out as straight. So, do not get onto me about it being a “private” matter… he did it in the public sphere and therefore it is open to ridicule. If you don’t want those things talked about then you… don’t talk about them. Funny how that works…

Everyone is capable of making mistakes, doing bad things, and growing. Misha has shown, to me, no growth and continually doubles down on his questionable and creepy behavior. He does charity? Cool good for him. Neat. He campaigns for Ukraine? Also a great cause. He still makes overtly sexual comments about his costars about a fetishized gay ship that Jensen himself has repeatedly said he finds no basis for and then gets attacked when he points out that it’s not canon, not how he played the character, and it’s not how the character was written. I do not like Misha. I find his pandering, entitlement, “look at me I do good things I’m a good guy” attitude to be abhorrent and distasteful.

I also do not like how vile fandom can get, but luckily I’m a wincestie and a lover of both brothers with a Sam leaning attitude… so, I’m surrounded by great mutuals and like minded people who I’ve went out of my way to cultivate an online experience with and so generally my online experience has been very positive.

I suggest you do the same and maybe not come to my blog, especially not on anon if you’re not going to have the courage to face me, if I am not your cup of tea. No one is forcing you to view my opinions and content. You alone have the power to curate your own online experience. If you want to come off anon and talk so be it, but the next ask sent on anon will just be deleted because I’m not going to continue you this conversation especially if you’re accusing me of being “terminally online” for using a well-used phrase outside of online life… like seriously grow up.

ok i have to submit this because it’s just TEW much to explain otherwise. like i said i stan them both so i been here for it all and know ALL the tea. i’ll give you the rundown of their relationship and then the drama that went down when she was dating jacob. there’s a whole tumblr timeline spanning years you can google if you’re interested in seeing it in detail but i’ll give you the basics. this is going to be a literal dissertation sorry in advance but i feel responsible for letting the general public know about the tomdaya agenda since i know so much

so they started dating in like aug/sept 2016 right after they finished filming homecoming. he went to canada right after to film another movie and during the course of filming she went to visit him and he flew to la to visit her, this is when people started getting sus. when he finished filming this movie he made an ig story about how he was going home to london to be with his family and spend the holidays with them, except he lied because he flew to la to see z and spend thanksgiving with her and her family lmao (he actually spent thanksgiving with her family 3 years in a row 2016-2018….more on that later tho 👀) her cousin exposed them when he posted a video on thanksgiving at her house and you could see her and tom cuddling on the couch. so everyone was like they’re 100% dating. like i said he was always flying to see her, he was going to workout classes with her mom and shit, he always stayed at her house in la (there’s multiple sets of photos of him outside her house with luggage). another thing that convinced people was sometime in early 2017 she made a whole snapchat story about how she was super sick and overworked and then after that accidentally posted a snap to her story that said “your sick girlfriend really loves you”. she deleted it quickly because it was obviously an accident and wasn’t meant to be public but people got screenshots. tom was also in nyc visiting z when she was filming the greatest showman and told a fan he met that he was in town visiting his girlfriend because he dumb. 

so at this point we KNOW they’re dating. zendaya is notorious for being extremely private with relationships, the guy she dated before tom she was with for 4 years and called him her best friend all along. she didn’t admit they actually had dated until after they broke up bc he cheated on her. so her being so private with tom and hiding it was expected. all this same shit goes on for the next nearly three years, they’re doing long distance but he flies to see her at least once a month sometimes more, they spend time with each others families, visit each other on set, etc. 

so this is where it gets interesting. tom is photographed on the euphoria set during a night shoot in like early may 2019. this is apparently right around the time they break up. tom’s best friend tuwaine was dating this girl audrey and when they broke up she started spilling tea on tomdaya (tom unfollowed her after this so it was def true). she said they broke up in may because they were fighting more due to long distance AND tom was tired of being so private, he didn’t want to be public but was over being so secretive and wanted to be a little more lax but she wasn’t comfortable with that. they decided to stay friends. the far from home press tour was in june and they were clearly still super close friends, nobody could even tell they were broken up cause they were so chummy (looking back now it’s more obvious cause tom was saying shit about his love life being a disappointment and stuff). they go their separate ways after the premiere but stay friends and continue to interact on social media, even months after the breakup tom met a girl at a con dressed like mj and asked if he could take a photo with her to send to zendaya so they were def still talking and stuff

fast forward to feb 2020. z is dating jacob and they’re being papped like every single day in nyc. pictures come out of them kissing out in the open in nyc. as a fan of z this was VERY weird to me because she’s always so private, but i was like maybe she’s trying something new because being so private caused the downfall with tom. BUT then she started DMing her fan accounts on twitter and ig asking them to take the kissing photos down (so idk what happened, she had to knew they were being papped but maybe she had second thoughts and regretted it)…. her fan accounts do delete the photos, but it’s too late. everyone has already seen them including tom, who is in the middle of a self-proclaimed instagram break. the day after the kissing photos came out, he goes back on ig and unfollowed two of z’s best friends, one being her assistant and basically brother darnell who tom was also good friends with. he posts a photo on his story of him drinking and puts emojis over his eyes and said something like “back for a minute, now i’m gone again.” he was going through it lmao so he literally went onto ig to be petty and unfollow people close to z because he was mad she was kissing her bf of a few months in public when they were together for nearly three years. and obviously he couldn’t unfollow her so he did the next best thing, and fans obviously took notice. a week later he followed darnell back cause i guess he realized how bad it looked but the damage was already done. tom and z from then on do not interact or acknowledge each other for the next SIX MONTHS. idk if they fought or if she was mad he unfollowed darnell or what. but it was MESSY. 

a month later tom starts dating this girl nadia, she moves into his house a few weeks into dating for quarantine. they date throughout those lockdown months. z breaks up with jacob sometime in june. she gets nominated for the emmy at the end of july, and days after she gets nominated her and tom start liking all of each others photos again. the assumption is he reached out to congratulate her and they made up. a few days after they start interacting again, tom posts a photo of his girlfriend on ig, and z likes it. tom and nadia break up like a week later 💀 he was filming uncharted in berlin at this point, him and z continue to interact, he finishes uncharted and flies right to atlanta to start filming spider-man. they’re still in atlanta now and we know they hang out all the time, but a lot of people think they’re back together because they’ve done some very 👀 things. her mom came to atlanta for thanksgiving and you guessed it… tom spent it with them (which we only know cause the celeb chef who cooked for them posted on his story that he made thanksgiving dinner for zendaya and tom holland. he then deleted and deactivated cause he realized he fucked up lmao). they started interacting with each other’s families and friends again. hunter (jules from euphoria) who is z’s best friend drove to atlanta to see her and her and tom followed each other. tom is very selective of who he follows and doesn’t even follow a lot of his costars so people were shook by this, especially because him and hunter met multiple times before but never followed each other. i have no idea if they’re back together, at the very least they’re good friends again, but i wouldn’t be surprised at all if they were. we’ll see what happens when they finish filming 👀👀👀 lmk your thoughts, questions, concerns etc.

Thank you for prompting, sweet anon! I haven’t written much of the simmering stuff, but I hope I did it justice. Also so sorry for taking literally, like a month. I wrote this halfway up and then deleted, plus, work’s been kicking my ass so… Again, very sorry.

This takes place in a Actor!Jaime and Makeup artist!Brienne verse that I started writing one shot of a while back, hopefully it will see light of day sometime, too. (Would love to hear if anyone’s interested in it!)

The wrap up party has barely begun when one of the stylist assistant approaches her and Podrick. Brienne politely tunes out their conversation, tries not to pay attention to the girl’s slightly smudged eyeliner that her hands immediately itch to fix (professional habit) and almost misses when Podrick asks her if she won’t mind.

“Of course not,” Brienne says, only about seventy percent sure to what she’s agreeing, but it seems she was right and as she watches Podrick being dragged to dancefloor, a smile on his face that implies he’s still processing this turn of events, but rather happy with them. She hopes her expression is encouraging when he glances back at her.

After exchanging nod of mutual, pained understanding with Sandor, Brienne tugs hemline of her dress down (again, because it refuses to stay there for more than five minutes or twenty steps) and sets off to wander among the crowd. She isn’t exactly looking for Sansa, as she hasn’t figured excuse to leave early just yet, but there’s hope inspiration will strike her soon.

It’s not that she hates her coworkers or the startled, pleasant warmth in her chest when someone stops her to praise her design and work on Night King - quite the opposite, really. But she always feels adrift during social gatherings and parties that come with show business. 

She’s gotten better at it, in part because as a friend and employee she can’t exactly say no to Sansa’s invites, yet she still always feels like a salmon trying to make its way upstream - a success, but at what cost?

Brienne catches glimpse of redhead then, she’s standing with Jaime and eyerolling at one of his jokes, while most of the other women in the small group giggle. Gauging a good time to approach, Brienne watches them. Tries to not pay attention to the way his costar keeps touching her hair and his elbow. He ignores it better than she does.

“I don’t mix work and pleasure,” he always says, but every woman who has been kept at bay by this thinks it’s free game now, at the wrap up party. They’re not co-workers anymore, not really. Tonight, they don’t hide the way their gazes pop open the next button on his blue shirt, slide the pale jacket off of his shoulders and run caresses down his arms.

Brienne swallows then, suddenly almost feeling the texture of his shirt under her fingers - just yesterday, she fixed his collar in passing when he rushed out of his trailer, almost late for lunch meeting with Tyrion. But it hadn’t been like that, she hadn’t thought of the way muscles in his stomach tense at her touch when they’re in makeup trailer and she’s applying bruise to his torso. The heat of his skin and the way his Adam’s apple bobs when she leans in close to add a final touch to his face. The moan he makes when taking bite of his favorite takeout on their movie nights. The weight of him when he had pressed into the couch in attempt to reclaim remote control she had wrestled from his hand a minute earlier.

She’s thinking of it all and so much more now.

There is no way she can go talk to Sansa, face Jaime, until her splotchy blush has subsided, so Brienne turns away and does her best to distract herself from distressingly, increasingly familiar detour her thoughts had taken.

She succeeds so well that when Jaime surprises her by the buffet table, she almost jumps at the sound of his voice.

“You should probably stop doing that.”

Her fingers freeze where they’ve been trying to discreetly tug the skirt of her short black dress down at the seam. It doesn’t look horrible, but Sansa’s jealousy of her long legs manifests in fierce attempts to have Brienne show them off as much as possible and sometimes she succumbs, only to regret later.

She finishes the tug, out of principle, but when she looks at Jaime’s face, it’s not the usual light, amused expression her displays of stubbornness. Instead, there is something tense in the line of his jaw, quirk of his mouth.

“Every time you do, I end up staring at your legs even more.”

Her first instinct is to coil up in defensive position at the echo of hurt, reminiscent of their early acquaintanceship days. But she knows Jaime now - this isn’t the tone, the expression with which he’d imply her legs are so unsightly redirecting gaze to them is an offense.

She’s seen this tension, too, but never deciphered quite what it means and it unnerves her, makes her wonder if she knows him after all.

“Sorry?” Brienne keeps her tone neutral, trying not to show the mounting irritation, but doesn’t succeed entirely.

He shifts closer to her, as if to slip by the barrier she is building. “Oh, I don’t mind in the slightest.”

Jaime’s tone makes her gaze snap to his face from where its been wandering aimlessly over his shoulder. His voice is low in a way that makes her shiver almost and when he catches her eye, he has the gall to smirk before deliberately looking down at her legs to prove his words. 

The heat of his gaze is so palpable it almost feels like caress on her skin - light, appreciative fingers starting their journey upward from her ankles until tips of his fingers tease their way under the hem of her dress, resting there. The imagery is so vivid in her mind, Brienne lets out a shaky breath she can barely hear over her heart’s hammering. By the way he’s looking at her, glowing with smugness and something more, her little fantasy must’ve been written clearly on her face.

Or maybe he was thinking the same.

The mere idea sends another rush of heat to her face (and elsewhere.) She must be her splotchiest red now, the color blaring through her light makeup like a firetruck. She opens her mouth, without knowing what to say, but he beats her to it.

“I am not sure that’s the result you’re going for, though.”  It sounds like a question, somehow, as if he’s asking if she minds. And Jaime’s expression is almost tentative now, in a way that makes no sense to her.

But she would take offense if it was anyone else, wouldn’t she? A little more and the caress would become leering sort that makes her shudder instead of shiver in anticipation (of things that will not come).

It’s not a new realization, this want. She keeps hoping it will die unattended in a corner of her heart, but it grows like a beautiful weed from the slightest scraps thrown its way. And tonight, staring in his hesitant (hopeful) eyes, she almost has the words to express it. Something flirty would do, borrowed from Margaery’s repertoire, as she leans in closer and glances down to his lips –

“Brienne! There you are!” Sansa’s voice bursts the shimmering bubble and Brienne jolts, her mouth parted around the unsaid words, looking like an utter idiot. She thinks she catches a dazed look and then a sea spray of annoyance on Jaime’s face before he schools it into polite smile for their host.

“I was afraid you had slipped away without a word,” her friend seems oblivious to all this, thank the gods, and loops arm through Brienne’s. “You should spend some time with someone else than a Lannister for a change, Brie. Especially if he’s just wasting your time.” She doesn’t have time to process odd exchange of looks between her friends before Sansa tugs on her arm: “Everyone here has such high praise to you and your team, you ought to hear it yourself.”

“Oh no, it’s fine-” she tries to protest, but this is not a tide she can sail against, and now that she has regained her faculties, it doesn’t seem like a bad idea to be busy and as far from Jaime as possible. She must re-calibrate her Jaime-translator before she ends up looking like an utter fool. So she lets Sansa sweep her away into the crowd, imagining Jaime’s gaze clinging to her back and willing her heart to calm down in both heart rate and longing.

Just kinda feels like you're placing more of the blame on GG then you are on the actual media that could do better. I feel that GG has a right to stand up for himself. And it's suddenly his fault and his responsibility to shield CP from racism.

Though it may feel that way, it’s not what is happening. This is why I retweeted and liked tweets directed at media outlets, whereas all I did to Grant was like his post and say “no one deserves to be body shamed.”

Honestly no a week won't a difference in a long run imo. I don't think as racists keep piling on her she'll think "oh well I had that one week that wasn't so bad so I guess this is fine " I guess for me what GG does for CP behind the scenes has more of a long term effect then making things a little less worse for one week.

I am sure that Grant and Candice’s actions BTS have more of a long term effect on the show, I never suggested otherwise. On fandom behavior? Not at all.

I think you're giving the uglier side of the fandom way too much credit. When GG supported the "run iris run" it only inspired parts of the fandom to be against it. Take a browse through the comment section of the iris poster that's on his IG. I legit argued with a GG Stan on Instagram that they should be kinder CP cause she's GG's friend and the response was "I don't care if GG likes her I'm still going to hate her." At most they'll pretend to be nice for a week then go back to being horrible

G supporting RIR inspired some people to comment negatively, sure. But him making a post after that saying, “If you are hateful and racist towards my friend and costar, I will block you” probably would not cause that same reaction. But we will never know.

I actually disagree if you think public support is more important than the private support he's given her. I think a lot of you have some unreasonable expectations of GG making a post and the fandom going "guess we won't be racist anymore". GG is not enough to make someone give up that kind of hate in their heart I'm sorry if you thought he'd be the one to solve that problem. What he's done for her BTS and to the producers has a much longer effect then maybe the fandom playing nice for a day

I don’t think public support is more important, and I don’t think it’ll stop racism. This sounds similar to the ask above, so I think the same answer stands.

Yeah he'll shut haters up for a day. Then the SB fans who hate when GG does something nice for CP will get more jealous and aggressive. The fanboys who hate CP and will always hate her will continue to attack her. I never said that, he is very welcome to defend himself. And yes, you are reading it wrong, because I have specifically stated that he is supportive of Candice and that she receives and appreciates that support.

Your stance on this seriously is that the reason CP continues to get racist attacks is because GG never made a public statement. I think you have this idea that GG is willfully denying CP any relief from being attacked. Even with GG's case the people who supported him are the ones who always supported him. The people who attacked him were pretty much laughing at him saying they won't stop because he made a post. GG got some press for sure but it won't change anything in the long run.

No, that is not my stance. My stance is that Grant has the power to make more people aware of the situation, and to make some people feel shame for their actions, but he hasn’t used it. Several people who attacked him beforehand apologized in the comments and said they hadn’t thought about it that way.

Several of his coworkers commented on the post he made supporting him and Shethority reposted his statement on their IG story to show love. Whereas when he accidentally liked the comment saying Iris should be killed off, he did not make a comment on Candice’s insta saying “I love working with you and can’t wait to continue!” or whatever, he merely went to the IGs of people claiming he wanted her killed off to say he never meant to like that comment. Whether things will change in the long run or not, all I said is that Grant doesn’t make videos or posts or leave comments when it comes to the hatred his co-stars have been sent. That’s it, that’s the whole point.

I mean he gave a lot of support for Candice for the Run Iris Run episode. He actually did say how great she was in it which goes along with the "I love working with you" comment that you want him to do. I already acknowledged that he’s given her support. I’m specifically talking about pushing back against the hatred, as opposed to “I don’t see that in my mentions” or whatever. I don’t know what else you want me to say, because I still enjoy Grant as an actor and their dynamic as costars.

Him making a post might make you feel better about things but I doubt it'll actually making any difference to how the fandom treats CP. I don't get it tho wouldn't GG's actions having more of a long term effect on the show be more important and useful to CP? I certainly find it more important. You're kind of sounding like Candice hasn't received support from Coworkers, producers, and shethority. Yes for one day they showed support to Grant but that doesn't erase the support they've given Candice in the past and will continue to do so in the future. I have already explained several times that Candice is not without support or friendship. My original statements were as they stand. Grant supports Candice and presumably others in private and in a way that satisfies her. Grant has not publicly spoken up about fandom racism or the misogyny directed against his costars. CNN and TIME etc. would need a lot more than a post from Candice or Anna to write up pieces meant to shame the racists.

(1)Wow. I’m really srry ppl keep misconstruing what you were saying about the GG incident. Some fans seem to be getting VERY sensitive about this situation on his behalf. You were literally just stating facts. He has never publicly defended CP from the negativity she receives from fandom. He’s not obligated to do it, but it would be nice if he did. She clearly has his support BTS but that has little to no effect on negative fandom behavior. (2)GG publicly defending CP wouldn’t automatically make the racist misogynistic haters like her, but them knowing they would potentially catch a block from him would definitely curb the negativity thrown her way, & anyone who doesn’t think so really underestimates GG’s power in this fandom.

Grant accidentally retweeted an article praising Flash S1 that said Candice’s Iris was the weak link and she should then be recast. He picked one fan to follow and DM his apology that he hadn’t actually read the whole thing and that he loves his whole cast, then deleted his retweet. AJK kept his retweet up despite backlash, meanwhile.

I think the wording is what's throwing some Anons off. You're not saying GG has never publicly supported CP cause we all know he has The support he gave RIR being one example. I think what's being said here is people wished he "called out" that racist part of the fandom. Like you said it's not an either/or situation. GG has shown CP support both publicly and BTS but in this one area some wished he did more. Doesn't make GG a bad person nor does it remove the love and support between him and CP

hi paige! i’m thinking about deleting my current stan twitter account and making a new harry stan twitter account because i stan harry and another person and the stans of the other person are so mean to harry, to the other person’s family/friends/costars, and even to the other person themselves. i try to not be sensitive and take stuff as jokes, but some of the things they say actually kinda hurt my feelings because they often will bring up appearances/attractiveness to deflect/defend and not in like the jokey way that most stans do. i’ve literally been a stan of that person for 3 years and i genuinely have never felt comfortable or safe face revealing because of it. i think i want to delete and start a harry account but my only fear is that i’ll have no friends on harry twitter. what should i do?

I would say go for it tbh! That other environment doesn’t sound good and Stan Twitter in general is just awful anyway but you can really cureate your own timeline to make it stuff you wanna see that’s what I’ve done

Shipping Real People is Wrong

(and why you should care)

Yes. This post is exactly what it seems like. I don’t see a reason to beat around the bush on this topic. It shouldn’t be a controversial one to discuss. And yet? It is- for some ungodly reason that I can’t even begin to fathom.

Let’s start with what shipping is, and why it’s okay, when applied to fictional people. Shipping is, in short, thinking two fictional characters (i.e. Elena Gilbert and Damon Salvatore from The Vampire Diaries) would make a nice couple. Sometimes this involves making edits to support this “pairing” or fanfiction. Other times, the person just consumes entertainment made by other fans who ship the same pairing.

I think we can all agree that this is pretty okay. It used to be considered a little odd, but nowadays it’s pretty widely accepted.

Where we begin to run into trouble is when we involve real people. When fans begin to pressure the actors/actresses to date in real life. Now, Ian (Damon) and Nina (Elena) did date in real life, to the thrill of many fans. People loved them together. Until they broke up.

You’d think people would stop rooting for them as a couple, considering they’d broken up and Ian married another woman and has a daughter. Unfortunately, no. Many people still ship Ian and Nina IRL and this is where things get...well, tricky.

A good example of things becoming an absolute mess due to fans shipping co-workers together, is none other than One Direction. You’ve probably heard of “Larry Stylinson” at some point.

Do you realize that was the destroyer of a close friendship? One of the people being shipped in the relationship, Louis Tomlinson, spoke out about how uncomfortable he and Harry felt, and how it ultimately ruined their friendship.

"It kind of happened naturally for me and Harry because a certain amount of the fans drew up this conspiracy," Louis said about the Larry Stylinson conspiracy theories. "When it first came around I was with Eleanor, and it actually felt a little bit disrespectful to Eleanor, who is my girlfriend now. I’m so protective over things like that, about the people I love." Louis said the fear that fans would overanalyze every minor interaction between the two stars caused them to stay away from one another. "It created this atmosphere between the two of us where everyone was looking into everything we did," Louis said candidly. "It took away the vibe you get off anyone. It made everything, I think on both fences, a little bit more unapproachable."

Many fans, self-proclaimed larries, took it a step farther and declared that Eleanor was/is a “beard” (when a person is hired to play the part of a significant other in order to hide a celebrity’s sexuality), that Briana (Louis’ son’s mother) was never really pregnant, that Freddie was a doll or not Louis’. Larries continue to harass Briana and her family on social media, even hurling death threats and wishes.

Larries’ behavior has gotten so out of control that there are entire blogs (ran by so-called “Anti’s”) dedicated to calling out this kind of behavior and helping ex-Larries escape the fanbase (because if you attempt leave the Larry-side of the fanbase, you’ll receive death threats and more spine-chilling comments than one could ever imagine).

From this, we can conclude that shipping can do some serious damage in real life, despite the fact that it’s often seen as “harmless” and acceptable.

There are some other cases of celebrity’s having trouble with fans shipping them. The most recent: Lili Reinhart and her costar on Riverdale, KJ Apa. Lili took to her tumblr to respond to the shippers:

"It’s horrifying how invested some people are in my love life. Emphasis on “my.” It is mine. It is private. If a stranger’s love life is causing you anger, frustration or anxiety… please reevaluate your priorities. I also want to point out that there is a difference between shipping Betty and other characters, and shipping me with literally everyone I make eye contact with.There are so many other things to focus your attention and energy on."

There is the argument that shipping real people is okay as long as it’s in fandom-dominated spaces on the internet (i.e. Tumblr, AO3, Wattpad) and doesn’t make it’s way onto the person’s social media accounts. This is very wrong, for a multitude of reasons.

One of those reasons is the fact that you’re still practicing toxic fan behavior and enticing others to do the same. Doesn’t matter where you’re posting those pornographic drawings of two co-stars who are happily married IRL; you’re still doing it, publicly, and it’s still absolutely appalling. 

Another reason is there is NO such thing as a good place to post that kind of content. Fans thought they were safe running to Wattpad...until Zayn Malik himself created an account to promote his book. People were creating memes and cracking jokes that held a whole lot of truth underneath: “delete your fics before he sees!”

This was said for the same reason that people panic and  threaten to delete their Twitter when their favorite band follows them: they’re ashamed of themselves. Even if they won’t admit it, even if they pretend it’s funny, even if they refuse to stop. They feel some guilt, deep down, for what their fave might see on their account.

I imagine there are some people out there who don’t feel any guilt for what they do and the pain they cause. They’re so far down the rabbit hole of slowed down GIFS and flourishing fantasies that they don’t know the difference between reality and fiction and they don’t care.

Call them out and suddenly you’re being branded a multitude of things by not only them, but their online circle, too. One of these things, if the ship in question is same-sex, is homophobic or hetero-normative.

Tumblr seems to have this odd obsession with gay couples, namely male gay couples. It’s fetishistic, and has become an accepted part of fandom life when it should be anything but.

If the two people involved in the ship are straight (or worse, has a partner already), why is it okay to say they’re lying and “definitely gay”? Would any of these people be comfortable with labeling a gay person as straight for their ship? 

Here’s something else to chew on: Making two best friends who are male into a ship, normalizes “bro culture”. How? Because it illustrates that showing any care or concern for your friend makes you gay or bi. Not everyone is capable of letting that kind of thing roll off their back or it goes beyond what they could handle while remaining unaffected (i.e. Harry and Louis’ friendship).

I don’t think there’s a person who’d argue that Harry is against the LGBT+ community or that he’s homophobic, as he has pride flags at his concerts and encourages fans to be themselves. If this doesn’t showcase that most people would be uncomfortable with real life shipping, I don’t know what else will. Put yourself in his shoes. In Louis’ shoes.

It’s not a great place to be.

“Laura, we’re starting to work on the finale!”

Laura carefully scored the last word on her line, then scowled. As if to accentuate that, a high heel fell from the catwalk, landing next to her. It was zebra striped, with a heel that looked much longer than six inches. Against the scuffed wood floor of the stage, it looked almost embarrassed. Laura was pleased with herself for not screaming. She had, the first time a wayward wardrobe item had come plummeting down from the heavens. 

Laura tipped her head back and hollered at the footsteps clattering away across the catwalk, “JP, careful!” Then, o the woman standing over her, she asked, “Already? 

Perry clasped her hands together, looking even more frazzled than she had that morning, which was impressive. It almost looked like LaF, the light and sound tech, had accidentally hooked her up to the wiring instead of the microphones. “I know you and Carmilla-”

“Don’t like each other?”

“Haven’t gotten along perfectly yet, but we want to get the blocking down tight.” Perry jittered, reweaving her fingers. “With all the trolley of love or whatever it’s-”

Laura set her script down on the top of the stairs and stood, stretching to work some of the knots out of her back from that accidental nap in one of the theatre seats this morning. Lesson learned — there was no point in trying to have a morning without hot cocoa. “It’s fine, Perry. That’s what you pay me for, right?”

Kissing unfairly hot… raging bad people was the job description for acting, right?

Perry deflated, but in a good way, like LaF had finally disconnected the cord that was electrocuting her. Laura had never been more grateful that she’d found her theatre calling in acting — stage managing was the most thankless job in the world. “Thank you, Laura.”

“No problem!” Laura stretched again, wincing. “I’ll be…”

Perry was already typing frantically into her phone, trying to raise Carmilla from Dracula’s coffin, or wherever she spent her time when she wasn’t needed onstage. Or when she was needed onstage. 

They did need to get to work on the finale. The theatre had only one modern piece of theatre technology — a turntable set right in the centre of the stage. LaF had christened it the Thrill Ride O’Love. The only time they used it in the whole play was for the final scene, where it was so swoopingly, cinematically romantic that the main characters would have to be pried apart by centrifugal force.

Laura didn’t think LaF had hooked up the fireworks or booster rockets yet, but she was sure they would get around to it soon enough. She had worked with LaF on projects before, and they always ended up breaking no less than fifteen safety rules and violating the entire spirit of the fire guidelines. It looked good, though. When everything didn’t catch on fire. They claimed accidents were unlikely to happen again, but then again, they’d said something similar about the donkey on Midsummer Night’s Dream, and that had definitely happened.

Laura made her way to the edge of the turntable, the telltale cross section of wood grain on the stage floor. 

Quietly, Laura started running through her lines, miming through the already-decided blocking with small steps and hand movements. Back, forwards, on the slightly tippy circle on the floor, and off. She didn’t realize how deep she’d gotten into her character until the last step back ran her right into someone.

“Watch where you’re going,” the worst costar in the world said, and Laura nearly jumped out of her skin. “Daydreaming, much, creampuff?” Carmilla smiled knowingly, like she could read Laura’s mind which she definitely could not even though there was definitely nothing happening in Laura’s mind at all. “If it’s me in there, I really can’t blame you.”

Laura sputtered. “I am not- I was rehearsing!”

Carmilla only raised a perfect eyebrow. “Rehearsing how to blush? Listen, cutie, I don’t think that part needs practice. You’re always red.”

Laura would have fired back a witty retort, she would, but that was when Perry bustled up. Light winked from up in the booth, LaF knocking the lamp almost out the little window before righting it. “Ready to go, Perr!”

Perry waved at them, some sort of language only the two of them understood, then focused back in on Laura and Carmilla. LaF retreated into their booth, grinning wickedly. “We’ll just go from the last line, okay? That’s the last line of the play, okay? Not the last line of the page.”

“Got it,” Carmilla said, and between one blink and the next everything about her body changed, the solidness of her stance melting away. When Laura looked again, there was something so soft in her face. 

Carmilla made the first move in their blocking, or maybe it wasn’t. Laura was too scrambled to tell. She stepped in closer to Laura, who took another stumbling step back, mostly in character. Everything came back to her, the days of practicing with a multicoloured script in hand. She could do this. It was just acting.

Carmilla prowled after her until they were smack dab in the centre of the stage, and caught Laura’s hand in hers. The contact between them burned — the contact between their characters, coming home to each other at last. “If you can believe it I… I only ever wanted you.”

The Thrill Ride O’Love rumbled to life beneath them. Carmilla cupped Laura’s cheeks, so close that Laura could feel the warmth pouring off her body, close enough that she could smell the scent of old books on Carmilla’s skin. 

LaF had a point with their crazy technology. With the walls spinning away behind Carmilla, the gentle way the world was spinning beneath her feet, Laura felt like she was in a movie. Carmilla leant in, and Laura hoped to Hufflepuff that she didn’t have any lines because-

Usually, there was something called stage kissing, so you didn’t actually have to french your costar onstage, but Carmilla seemed to have skipped that class, and well, Laura wasn’t about to remind her. 

They kissed, the world vanishing just down to the two of them, their lips, Carmilla’s hands soft on Laura’s cheeks, Laura gripping her elbows. They kissed, and they kissed, until Carmilla pulled back, slow, almost unwillingly. The Thrill Ride O’Love ground to a startling halt. 

“That was great!” Perry said, the most delighted Laura had ever heard, but she barely registered. Carmilla was still smiling, the same sweet smile she’d seen moments before, when the world started moving. Laura grinned back. Only this time, Laura felt like it couldn’t be just acting.

Maybe Carmilla Karnstein wasn’t so bad after all.
