chopper's antlers shed in november. the side with the brace is cast and grows back, but the damage was so extensive that that side is permanently weaker. without the brace there to steady it, it could snap back off again

luckily, the shedding-regrowth itself is made quicker thanks to his devil fruit interference, so they'll back to normal within six-eight weeks rather than the months a normal reindeer cycle takes. however! the entire process is itchy and very uncomfortable, and there's not a lot he can do besides complain wait it out and try to distract himself

☆ hates to admit but he lowkey enjoys christmas movies; there's something extraordinary soothing about watching those sappy, same script films. it's a break in his routine

-Temperatures drop to the extent that access to water can become a concern. Wells that are fed from groundwater can freeze and the rivers and lakes become even more dangerous to venture upon. Water is sometimes sourced from snow which is boiled to distill it.

Second Note: I have a post about water in Himring here!

-Heated stones, primarily obsidian and certain types of sandstone are heated and wrapped in cloth as a treatment for lasting pain. The relief is fairly short lived but especially for the duration of the treatment can be incredibly soothing. Maedhros himself has benefited from this as have the many residents of Himring with lasting effects of injuries from battle, or, in some cases, torture. Changes in weather can exacerbate chronic pain and other conditions including mobility, mood, and other functions.

-The soldiers of Himring often sleep in extremely close quarters during the winter for warmth, especially when firewood is scarce. Scouts and spies limit their fires when away from the citadel to limit the possibility of being seen.

-Warm clothing and materials come from wool imported from Thargelion, and from reindeer, ermine and rabbit native to the March. Feathers from snow and tundra geese are also used for insulation.

-Much food is preserved for cold winters and for the soldiers and scouts who rotate out and need food that can last. Methods of food preservation are learned from the dwarves who aided in the construction of Himring as well as through trial and error (These are still Noldor and take pride in experimenting and exploring). Himring utilizes more of these methods than many other elven realms. Salted meat, stocks and broths that can be quickly heated over a fire, root vegetables, dried fruit from the summer, usually orchard fruit like apples that can grow in colder climates.

-There is a ghost story told by the scouts of Himring of elves who simply walk away into the winter wilderness and are never seen again. These elves were said to appear in a trance like state or to appear as though something has caught their attention. These stories are often implicitly associated with former thralls, who are often thought of or depicted as ghosts, transient, or otherwise eerie.

Yukigakure Worldbuilding Headcanon

People and Culture

The people of the hidden snow village are a small, silent, yet very proud community. They are not the most hospitable and take a long time to warm up. Having to save on precious air as there is not a lot of oxygen in higher altitudes, hidden snow citizens prefer to use as little words as possible. However, this makes their friendship the more valuable. Once you're considered a friend, you are their family as well. Humor in the hidden snow village is another interesting issue, as it is a rather crude and dry one. However, don't let the cold, uninviting attitude of the hidden snow people scare you off, as they are rather inquisitive. Gossip spreads like a wildfire here. Another fun fact: Fridges and freezers are only used in spring, why waste electricity when you can let your food cool in your backyard? This has led to very creative ways of building fences to protect your dinner from any stray polar bear... or neighbor. The hidden snow people is not one to celebrate many things, except Winter's solstice, which is also celebrated as the impending return of Spring. This spring is an artificial one, as huge heat generators are turned on to melt away the snow and ice.

Clothing and Cosmetics

The hair, regardless of gender, is almost always grown out, often times worn open or at least framing the face, as an additional protection against the cold. Hidden snow people have rather thick and luscious hair, and compared to other ninja nations, the most hair follices on an individual basis, evolution's trick against te cold. Hair care is very important for them, and learning how to braid your hair is a standard practice once you're old enough to brush your own hair. Clothes are worn in thick layers and rarely dyed, richer families making the exception. The ankles and feet are often wrapped in thick fur as cold feet make your entire body feel cold.

Nature

Flora The entire country is covered in snow and glaciers, therefore only allowing for evolution's hardest soldiers. The main vegetation here are icy wastelands, some grasslands and tundra made up of various conifers. Native deciduous trees include birches and some willow species, and birch sap is often served as a drink in the Land of Snow. Another survivor from the village of snow are the lichens that cover the barren rocks, adding at least a little bit of color. There are also some moorlands that run through the country, but these are located outside the village and have hardly been explored.

One special flower that had made its way here is the dandelion, a flower with a high cultural status. Its bloom mirrors the change from short, buoyant spring to the icy, merciless winter. Its leaves are often harvested and can be eaten in salads or used in traditional medicine. (although this traditional medicine is only popular with hidden snow aunties nowadays)

Fauna

The Land of Snow was once densely populated by polar bears, but their numbers have dwindled since the Snow Village was founded, as they were often hunted for prestige. The most widespread mammals are reindeer and musk oxen, and the occasional lemming can be found in the dense ice deserts.

Birdlife includes corvids, gulls, albatrosses and the snow villagers' favorite bird: the puffin. These are strictly protected and are also very popular with children. In addition to these birds, loons, ptarmigans and owls also feel at home in the land of snow - sometimes even one or the other odd duck strays in. If you reach the hard-to-reach coastlines of the Land of Snow, you will often encounter seals and walruses. Around the coast, orcas also make the Arctic Ocean unsafe, which often does not suit the other native whale species (humpback whales, narwhals, belugas, sperm whales and blue whales). Fish in the Land of Snow include cod, shrimp, crab, halibut, redfish, char, turbot and salmon.

Domesticized animals

It's not uncommon for a hidden snow family to own their own sled dog as well as a herd of sheep, depending on where their home is located.

Food

Fish and Other Proteins You know how it goes. Once you go fishing, your dinner is secured. This is the case for the hidden snow village as well. However, unlike Kirigakure, fish is not as extremely accessible as in Kirigakure, since fishermen often have to travel a bit before stumbling upon any fish. Popular protein options are reindeer, lamb and seal meat, which often times is frozen (duh), or brined. Smoking meats is also very common, since spices are not widely accessible here (resulting in a few... questionable food preparation decisions that the locals have come up with over time.) Carbs Although the hidden snow diet is rather high in protein due to carbs not being very accessible, wheat, buckwheat and potatoes are the most common source of carbs. The hidden snow country offers a wide variety of breads. Funnily enough, rice is seen as an "exotic" luxury carb. Fruit The best berries are grown in the Land of snow (and in the iron realm, but that deserves its own post). Most beloved berries include wild strawberries, currants, sea buckthorn, raspberries, blackberries, gooseberries and mulberries. Aside from berries, the hidden snow village also offers crunchy pears, apples and cherries. The fruit in the hidden snow country are very high in vitamin c, causing a rather sour taste, but also preventing any scurvy outbreaks. Any citrus fruits are a rarity here and can only be grown in greenhouses, making them very expensive, and not very tasty, in all honesty.

Tradition vs Modernity Nowadays, most foods that used to be inaccessible are now grown in large greenhouses. Most hidden snow citizens are not opposed to GMO foods, and in fact, embrace it. Most of the GMO foods are first cultivated in the hidden snow village before making their way to the market. Many youngsters prefer the modern dishes over the traditional ones. Traditionally, the hidden snow citizen always tries to make the most out of the food that they have, resulting in dishes such as blood sausage, blood pudding, brain (double fried to protect from any nasty prions) and many gelatinous foods.

Damian isn't a big fan of the cold, but Jon is. If they do cute couple things like ice skating or playing in the snow, the rest of the day they're in front of a fire and cuddle under a warm blanket. And that's Jon's favorite part of the day.

Jon really likes getting accessories for Damian's pets. Getting a Santa hat for Batcow, an elf costume for Alfred the cat, a snowman hoodie for Titus, and a reindeer headband for Goliath. All of Damian's pets like Jon enough to let him do as he wishes.

Bruce and Alfred refuse to let both of them out in the cold without proper winter clothes. Jon doesn't need it as much, but he likes it because it makes him feel like a part of the family. Damian used to get a little flustered, but now he's used to the doting. (I'm a sucker for good parent Bruce hcs btw)

Jon likes the festivities and atmosphere of the holiday season. Damian doesn't celebrate as much, but he does like the decorations. And he likes going on walks with Jon to just see how Gotham or Metropolis decorated for the year. Also, Jon gushing about how wonderful everything looks is Damian's favorite part

Jon can't hold his excitement when he has presents for Damian and usually ends up giving them early. Jon will give Damian two or three presents, which Damian is always happy to receive. 

Damian doesn't have that problem, but he does have a problem with over-gifting. He will give Jon anything from practical stuff for superhero duty to games and trinkets he thinks Jon will like. He isn't overly affectionate like Jon throughout the year, so he uses gift-giving as a way to return the affection. Also, he really likes how Jon's eyes light up whenever he sees the mountain of gifts.

He regularly dresses up as Santa for children.When not doing that he love the Christmas movies that are on the TV.His favourite Christmas movie is The Polar Express.While Gyftmas had Gyftmas trees, when he first saw a Christmas mad tree his eye-lights sparkled in wonder.

Undertale Papyrus - Paps

He really likes decorating the house and Christmas tree.However his favourite bit about Christmas is the tinsel,he likes the way it feels against his bones.So don’t be surprised to find a house covered in tinsel. Surprisingly Paps doesn’t like the drinks at Christmas.He doesn’t like mulled wine , he hates Egg nog and is in fact allergic to vanilla so he can’t really have any ‘Christmas’ drinks.

Unfortunately in the winter he has to use his mobility aids way more, due to the cold weather it’s also likely for him to be bed ridden for a day or two.When that’s not happening Papaya makes food for food banks.He can’t bare the thought of some family’s going without food on Christmas of all days.He also donates some money to charity.Anything to help those less fortune. Valancy & Barney's headcanons (Part 2)

Before they are off to their belated honeymoon, Barney buys a camera and gives it to Valancy. She finds out how much she enjoys taking pictures (mostly of Barney). When he notices it, he buys himself the exact same one and promptly takes pictures of Valancy (so they are fair).

On the second Christmas of their marriage, Dr. Redfern, among other gifts, presents each of his "children" with a very colourful, Christmas patterned sweater. He buys one for himself as well and asks Henry to take a "family picture" of the three of them. Barney tries not to scowl at his reindeer sweater, Valancy laughs at Barney's expression, while Dr. Redfern smiles radiantly, overjoyed to have his boy and girl back. It becomes their new family tradition. When/If Valancy and Barney have children, Dr. Redfern buys miniature sweaters for them, too. (He even tries with Henry, one year. Henry's face, after he unwrapped the gift, is a sight Barney is never going to forget, or so he vows to Valancy).

Barney writes and recites a love poem to Valancy. Then, afraid she'd think he's hopelessly romantic, he reads to her an old copy of the story "A Royal Betrothal." by Mark Greaves and they laugh at it, until their ribs start to hurt. They come up with multiple reasons for such a sudden ending and they both agree it is the best part of the whole story.

Valancy writes down her fantasies and lets Barney read it. It gives him an inspiration to write something different - a novel, or a fairytale book. He and Valancy work on this project together. If/When they decide to publish it, they are both listed as authors (Valancy chooses her own nom de plume).

Valancy and Barney spend many winter evenings, planning their spring travels. After choosing their destination, they buy books about the country they plan to visit; its history, culture, beliefs, cuisine, traditions. They make a list of places they want to see, the food they want to taste, things they want to try.

They put their photographs on the mantelpiece or hang them on the wall. They call it a "memory lane".

Sometimes people try to figure out why Valancy and Barney smile to each other for no apparent reason... the truth is, they have a LOT of inner jokes.

Kallias and Viviane Headcanons

SLEIGH RIDES through the snow

like imagine them cuddled up together, under a thick blanket, on a large white sleigh that is pulled by reindeer (in my mind they have reindeer in the winter court)

the sleigh is also their preferred means of transport

after returning from the ride they are obviously frozen from head to two and those two love long and through baths together

like the put essential oils and rose leaves in the water, use their magic to make the water stay warm for hours

they sit and warm up for the first half and hour, just lounging, heads leaned agains the edge of the tub, marvelling in the feeling of the warm liquid surrounding their bodies

they will have light conversation about anything and everything, talking about life and all sorts of things

they will also cuddle and wash each other's hair while sharing some sweet kisses

also I can imagine Kallias to be an excellent cook, so he will often tell his cooks that he will do the cooking that evening and prepare a lovely meal for his wife

and oh Christ, those two love nothing more than spending time with their little baby

teaching them how to walk, where Kallias is the most patient, trying to to each little step slow and calm

teaching them how to speak, about colours, about animals etc.

also I could see both of them to be musically taleneted somehow

so often they would sing together, Viviane bouncing their baby on her lap, singing to them while Kallias play the piano, also singing

having family rituals is also important, they have special occasions and traditions that are solely reserved for the three of them

family is their top most priority, like for Kallias nothing comes before Viviane and their baby and the same goes for his wife

deep talking before sleeping

sometimes Viviane and Kallias would talk for hours before sleeping, not sometimes most nights

just sharing what they couldn't exchange that day because both of them have been to busy

also they have this extremely healthy relationship, no fights, no disputes, if something is bothering the other they will immediately talk about it, trying to find a solution that is good for both sides

Hi Mori! I was wondering if you had any headcanons around the Kamal? I’ve been thinking about them lately :+)

i feel i owe ayem for a lot of this bc of the books she's read and what she brought to light in our convos about akavir, but the gist is the kamal are a variety of nomadic cultures living in this steppey tundra north of the main mountain range on akavir. it's a HUGE area and they make their living a variety of ways, most abide to this sort of philosophy of impermanence and fluidity that has to do with their beliefs and their tower. that whole "kamal freeze in the winter and melt in the summer" from mysterious akavir we have corrupted into meaning they migrate seasonally (or every few years, which is "seasonal" for a continent subject to periodic monsoon seasons) and in doing so have this festival centered around constructing a huge tower made out of ice with magic that is inevitably fated to melt and fall apart eventually. in elder scrolls deeplore terms its like some radical anti-anuic statement that honors mortaltude and the creation of mundus and it's also a giant tower made of ice where all the old people get to tell stories and the kids play on the ice and groups who oft don't interact get to catch up and trade

the other thing was the migration, i belieeeve what it was was that when it gets very cold on akavir they have that lats hurrah with the tower and then they migrate north across the frigid sea to ATMORA. which is actually doing pretty nice in the modern day. it got better. they love atmoran wood for building things (i think some ESO armor or weapon might've even hinted at that?? they just said "elder wood") and even hang out with the atmorans sometimes :) they also herd reindeer i forgot to mention that they herd reindeer in akavir. maybe there's even a sort of temporary landbridge that connects with atmora when it gets cold and they herd right across that. i think that gives a good overview of em

First impression

asdjshjdf not gonna lie, before i started watching One piece he was one of the only characters i that i could recognize and knew by name ( along with Sanji, Zoro Luffy and Nami ) and i used to think that 1. he was ugly ( I'M SORRY CHOPPY), 2. i didn't understand what kind of animal he was supposed to be 😅🤣 but to be fair he doesn't really look like a reindeer in his main form and also he looks kinda .. weird in the time skip :( he looks way much better pre time skip.

I LOVE HIM !!! MY SOOOON 💖💙💖💙💖💙 !! I find him adorable, he is cheating cuz cute characters are always gonna be on my favorite list.

But for real, I find his character to be really interesting because i used to have this concept of chopper being the typical mascot ( cute marketable character cof cof ) but no !! The little dude surprised me !! he is an important member of the main cast, he has a sad background, he is a doctor, he is a fighter, he is a little child, he can be pretty sweet, he can be mischievous sometimes and more importantly he is a pretty well developed character 💖

in terms of design i really like that he has many transformations !!! and I LOVE when he gets to use them !!!! My favorites are horn point and guard point ( besides the main one )

hmmm i don't remember an specific moment right now apart of the Drum Island Arc which is basically Chopper's introduction arc but in general i love when he is being childish or being spoiled by the other crew members 🤣💖 like when he is happy about having sweets and cotton candy or when he hides behind the others because he is scared ( mainly Zoro, Sanji and Robin )

OH wait i also love the filler episodes of Chopper man 🤣 those are adorable

ZORO !! ( what a surprise lmao ) i really like that they have like a little brother and big brother relationship and that Chopper is always hanging out in Zoro's shoulder 🤣 which is really cute but in general i like his relationships with the main cast 💖

Favorite headcanon

Chopper being the baby brother of the crew and everyone fighting each other so they can cuddle with him when they are in a winter island or when is cold in general ( which has happened in the anime .. so maybe is not that much of a headcanon lol )
