Fuck I love making up monsters and creatures, I love throwing them into the blender, pressing the on button and seeing how the fanfiction smoothie turns out. Fuck it, lets throw in vampiric seers. Lets add in Phoenixes. Lets completely make up a new undead species born from rot and decay and call it the Cephtiz, an infectiony name for an infectiony creature.

I'm sure someone who's actually caught up on the Witch From Mercury has made a better post about this, but Witch goes so far beyond the little homages to Utena that other sapphic animation so often slips in - Witch is fully in dialogue with Utena, and it's fucking fascinating. Some of that dialogue is in de-surrealization; Witch has a much more concrete setting that extends beyond the walls of the school, which does not exist in a little bubble of stylized, allegorical melodrama the way the school in Utena does, which let's them examine their equivalent characters in a different light. Witch's take on Saionji feels direct, concrete pressure from his abusive father that reinforce his toxic, abusive behavior, and his repeated emasculation when he fails in his duels isn't something that comes fully from within, it's something enforced upon him by the father who feels shamed by his son's failure to live up to the masculine ideal. Witch's Anthy has not given into the idea that the position of Rose Bride is one that she deserves and must embrace - her abuser cannot isolate her from support and the idea of escape the way that Akio could in the demiplane academy of Utena. Miorine, in fact, has very little in common with Anthy on the surface, but not only is her position in the narrative as a prize to be passed around between duelists the same, but much of the same imagery is used to frame her. She too has a hidden garden she tends to that her abusive fiance destroys in a fit of rage. Her positioning in the opening credits, alongside Suletta, obviously matches Anthy and Utena's positioning. If the show doesn't conspire to frame the activation of Aerial's sword so that it looks to be drawn from Miorine's chest, I'll be genuinely disappointed.
On the whole, I feel like Witch is (funnily enough for a show about space robots) taking the characters and actions of Utena out of that show's more allegorical and surreal atmosphere and grounding them in a firmer reality. And I'm absolutely fascinated by it

Ghost Lunar Design
after the last post I can finally post my quick lil ghost lunar design for my witch au, so here's the guy! This is only one of the planned designs for him, as he does undergo physical changes as the plot progresses. This design is the one for when he first emerges from the pendant-other designs will be shown as the story continues (and when I get around to doodling them).

I need bungie to go "yeah we fucked this one up" and then rewind the timeline and do it over again but not stupid this time. use exostranger time travel/multiple universe bullshit or whatever to justify it. she's apparently the most important character in all the universe(s) anyways

For starters, some of my all-time favourites. The ones I always go back to for comfort and nostalgia.
(This one’s already included in another playlist, but I couldn’t resist.)
We are going to get many repeats today and there is nothing wrong with that. I fully anticipate we will have MCR's full discography posted by the end of the day.
Here is one with some serious nostalgia for me:

alright owl house fans, I'm sorry but I have to take a bat to the hornet's nest tonight, so if you just wanna enjoy your cozy cartoon in peace stop reading Now ok, no hard feelings
I just watched the season 3 premiere and it only reinforced my probably controversial take:
amity barely qualifies as a character anymore. that girl is made of cardboard and prayers, and the fact that she keeps getting shoved to the front of the narrative because she is The Girlfriend only further accentuates the fact that there's straight up Nothing going on with her outside of her romance subplot. by contrast, willow and gus continue to be the most charismatic supporting characters, who have to share whatever table scraps of screentime are left over after the plot relevant characters are done talking, since neither of them have had a consistent reason to be on screen since season 1
imho in a better world, amity, willow and gus would have been boiled down to two supporting characters - luz's shy, standoffish upperclass love interest with a complicated family life who eventually stands up for herself and becomes bold and spunky, and luz' one roguish weirdo outcast friend who stood by her since the beginning. the two characters could easily have played out amity and willow's troubled history with one another while they were at it. with only two characters for the writers to keep track of instead of three, the writers might even have been able to give the platonic relationship proper attention and development, and the love interest character could have actually been fun to watch when she was on her own, instead of giving luz one really boring girlfriend who has no personality outside of the relationship and two really likeable but really underdeveloped "best friends" that she never gets any screentime with.
owl house is really cute and I really respect what it's trying to do but I would have killed to see a show with this much budget and talent on board written by people who can write

Continuing on my Gwitch/Transformers Crossover, as Shockwave, Starscream and Soundwave being Megatrons’ lieutenants which of the 3 Houses would he have them supervise?
Alright, so this is the point where I have to admit that my exposure to Transformers is limited largely to the Armada/Energon/Cybertron trilogy of shows that I watched back in middle/high-school, so my familiarity with broader Transformers lore/characters and the subtleties of how they might fit into a crossover is a tad limited.
That all being said, I do like the idea of Starscream overseeing Grassley, simply because the idea of Shaddiq secretly being his protege is fucking hilarious XD
