just tried to connect with hekate, hoping it works. its my first time trying to connect with a deity although i've done it on accident before. weird, right? natural witchy brain i suppose. reading about modern witchcraft and just couldn't stop thinking about hekate after her first mention so i took it as a sign and used the books method of reaching out to her. carving my name into a black candle, turning all the lights off then lighting it well saying "hekate, queen of witches. I, (your name) am a witch and i call upon you! i ask that you bless me as i walk this path. guide me as i work my magic, so i might make the best possible choices. light my way with your wisdom. this i ask as a witch and a woman. so mote it be" i have zero idea if this works but yk i did it anyway, its worth a shot. blessed be, friends

◙◘Introduction to Tarot◘◙
•°•°The cards, the cards, the cards will tell! The past the present and the future as well!°•°•
While every card could arguably have its own page to itself, an overview of the practice of reading tarot cards itself might help point you in the right direction.
Querent and Reader
There is a lot of vocab in magic, and divination is no different. The querent is the person asking the question, whether they have their hands on the deck or not. The reader is exclusively the person interpreting the reading. You don’t have to use this vocabulary, but that is what that means if it comes up.
Ideas About Choosing Decks
There are a number of traditions and ideas behind how someone should choose a deck. Some say that you should only ever be gifted a tarot deck and should note endeavor to buy your own. Others think that that is just meant to keep people out of the practice and away from their business.  It is also said that a tarot deck should call to the person who wants it. There is this idea that you will simply know one is for you when you see it. While picking the best deck for you is always better, if you just want to play around with it, there is nothing stopping you from just picking any old deck of cards out.
Those who lean into a more relationship based idea of a deck might put more importance on a deck “choosing you” or “calling out to you” than those who view decks as simply tools that assist in honing their own abilities. The former more so treats the deck like it’s own being, and respects it’s answers as if it has thoughts and feelings of it’s own.  The later treats any failings of interpretation or outcome on the ability of the reader to interpret the cards.
Spreads
Spreads in tarot work by designating specific questions to different parts of a reading.  For example a three card spread most classically has past, present, and future. What you’re really asking is “What is past in this situation?”, “What is currently going on in this situation?”, and “What is the future in this situation as is?”. A spread streamlines the process of asking all three.  The “Celtic Cross” is another very popular, but much longer spread. Spreads can be done with multiple decks, multiple cards, and similar.  Those that don’t use spreads tend to ask the deck questions one at a time.
To make your own spread you take common questions asked about a situation and assigned them placements in your reading.  If you would like to know for example, “What should I be concerned about?”; “How do I avoid this?”; “What will happen if I don’t listen?”; and “What will happen if I do listen?”, you might pick four positions and label them 1: Concern, 2: Solution, 3: Current Outcome, 4: Changed Outcome.  Some like to add flair and arrange the decks to better reflect what the spread is about.  A spread for attaining happiness might be arranged in a smiley face for example. There is more art to the arrangement than science.
Major Arcana
The major arcana is the portion of the deck numbered 1 to 22. These are often considered more important than the minor arcana when they show up in a reading, but not always. The major arcana tend to be representative of large, all consuming, archetypes.
Minor Arcana
The minor arcana are the suit cards.  Usually numbering 1 to 10 and going into page, knight, queen, and king not too much unlike a standard deck of cards. There are four standard suits in tarot, cups, pentacles, wands, and swords.  Each suit tends to have meanings the cards within lean towards. There is some belief that the court cards (page, knight, queen, and king) often represent other people in a reading. For example: pulling a queen of cups in a situation asking about what is stopping you from accomplishing a goal might imply that a woman who with strong emotions is what is holding you back.
Interpretation Through Meaning Some forms of tarot reading involve interpretation through meaning either using a guidebook, or the traditional meanings ascribed to the cards (usually based on the standards of rider waite). This is by far the most common form of card reading.  Often even personal interpretations are based on or inspired by the guidebooks for an individual deck or the commonly accepted meanings.
Interpretation Through Image
Other forms of tarot interpretation involve the images themselves. The querent asks a question, the reader pulls a card, and then the reader interprets to the querent how the image, (whether it be through symbolism, feeling of the card, or very literal images), answers their question.
Shuffling
There are different kinds of shuffling techniques, and even more different kinds of reasons practitioners shuffle their decks.  The most obvious reason being that the cards need to be mixed around to properly read with them.  However, others do this for cleansing purposes, or to add energy to the deck as they focus on what they would like to ask.
As for the ways that people do them, some mix the cards around in piles and recombine them.  Others throw the cards together in their hands, cutting and remixing them as they see fit.  Others will shuffle them like a standard deck of cards, but many standard tarot decks are a little large and bulky for this to always be a viable option.
Often the idea is to induce a bit of randomness, entropy, and unknown, as magic is said to work in the spaces that are not observed.
There is also a lot of different ways people pull tarot.  Some spread the cards out and pull the one that feels the most important. This style leans far more towards those who see divination as an expression of their own abilities. Others will throw them around and wait for a card to throw itself out at them. Some will pull directly off the top of the deck when they are done shuffling.

Okay so I have a whole list with me.
1. I love the commitment to The White Knight universe and your breakdowns on the Characters and the wider themes of the story being told. It feels very real, and you hold characters responsible for what they did and the impact that they had on the children you focus on the most.
2. Your videos have an amazing color scheme and the avatar you use for the videos is simple yet effective. The set up is easy to watch and listen or just listen to.
3. How passionate you are inspired me to go back and do a reread of White Knight. I think it's a skill not a lot of people have. To be able to be so passionate about something that it makes others get drawn in too.
4. You know how to make a video the length it needs to be. You say the information and you don't pad the runtime.

those who practice witchcraft or deity worship/work, could i please get your input?
i’m relatively new, i’m still figuring things out. i’ve felt called to lord lucifer, and have a candle i’ve carved his sigil in that i light during prayers or tarot readings. lately when i put out the candle, it’ll still smoke for a few minutes afterwards. none of my other regular candles do that (all same size, same type of wick). have i done something wrong?
(also, the candle has melted over halfway down on all sides except for the one where the sigil is carved. it feels like a good sign. has anyone else experienced the same?)

omg pls share ur other thoughts on chrissy’s tarot cards!! i loved that chapter it was so good 😭🥺💕✨
first of all, thank you so much!!!  🥰 🥰 cher willing, i'll have the next part up within the next few days!
(second of all, here's the fic in question for anyone who happens upon this)
THIRD OF ALL, onto the tarot reading i chose for chrissy (under the cut bc i get Very enthusiastic abt emotions so surely this explanation is going to get away from me):
most of her cards—whether the casually mentioned ones or her actual reading—are major arcana. again, as i state in the fic, these tend to speak to turning points in your life. and that's what i like to explore with chrissy, is this shift in how she feels about/treats herself, and how that positively affects the trajectory of her life.
her minor arcana cards indicate a person (eddie, in this case, for the ROMANCE), because with any romantic dynamic i write, i like to explore the effect they have on each other not just in their relationship, but as individuals. because, yk, whether we like it or not, for better or worse, we're all affected and shaped by the people in our lives. and personally when i do readings for ppl, i dig into the positive takeaways, bc otherwise i just don't see the point, plus this fic is first and foremost a romance, so that's the direction i went in here.
(man look at all those commas, run-on sentences my beloved)
SO ANYWAY.
the cards she happens to notice but aren't in her actual reading are the star, the devil, and the two of cups. they're similar-but-not-similar to her actual reading:
the star is generally pretty positive whether upright or reverse. essentially it speaks to your readiness for Full Self-Acceptance, Your Destiny, Your Soulmate, all that. (it's also my favorite and i'll name-drop it every chance i get. it's just. so affirming and romantic and a lot of things that i want for myself, and i think it's such an all-encompassing card for anyone who leans into the archetype of the romantic.)
the devil, in this case, would take its meaning from its reversed position: moving on from trauma or otherwise negative forces in your life. (i have. Very strong feelings about this card for chrissy's character overall, particularly in her relationship with her mom, the themes of which i'll explore more in-depth in my soon-to-be-posted multichapter.) ((it's also a super interesting card for eddie's character which, again, i'll probably dig a little deeper into in the multichap.))
the two of cups is one of the most positive cards for romance. it speaks to that sort of self-actualizing power achieved in a healthy relationship, the give-and-take, and foretells a deep bond that serves you as a couple and as individuals
now, as for her actual reading, i wanted to go as simple as possible for the sake of writing that scene concisely, without *too* much exposition that would make the dialogue unnatural (such a pet peeve for me), all that, so i went with a three-card.
there are. like. a thousand spreads out there. but generally (or the way i do it, anyway) three cards indicate a current issue, past influences, and what to do/future outcome. you really have to examine each card individually as well as how they play together.
for chrissy, we have:
the moon: pretty straightforward the way i wrote it in the fic. reversed means that your search for clarity, reason, whatever, will come to fruition so long as you keep honest with yourself and follow your heart. (it also encourages the strength/healing we find in female friendships, which is something that will become more prevalent in the next chapter.)
the hierophant: upright it means that you find comfort and a sense of self within tradition, in finding your people and building those traditions and community with them. reversed, as it is in chrissy's reading, it means you'll find those things when you ditch external expectations. in chrissy's case, i wanted it to indicate that she should keep the parts of herself that she genuinely likes, but that she can also find that authenticity by letting herself want things for herself, rather than only strictly doing what's expected of her.
the knight of cups: listen i usually hate person cards bc they can be tricky to suss out when i'm doing a reading for someone, but in this case it slaps. it speaks to chrissy's need for emotional support and just pure, i-like-you-because-you're-you adoration. personally i think we see that very much so in the canon forest scene, when eddie can Tell something's up and he does his best to, for all intents and purposes, be chrissy's knight in ripped jeans armor. he gives her the space to feel calm, because he's real with her—not in some bullshit tough love kind of way, but in this way where he's just like, "this is me being myself, you can be yourself, too." and, yk, even though i write no-upside-down aus, it's the ~essence~ of their relationship i want to dig into.
^ i also think the knight of cups really represents what chrissy Needs, and it's who eddie actually Is (whether blatantly or under the surface, depending on your take on him), so—much like the devil, funnily enough—this card works for them on a few levels.
......okay this took me perhaps an embarrassingly long time to whip up, so *sign of the cross, bc i was raised catholic and there's no gettin out* fingers crossed for an interesting read, but i'm gonna peace out now ✌️

🐭you are too cool and also have a lot of very detailed analysises
Aww, thank you. I don't think many people have ever called me cool before. I'm glad that my analyses don't come across as tumbled infodumps like I think they do.
