Okay, but… what if Secret Hawke wasn’t a mage.

What if her attention-drawing, humorous attitude was not a way to cope with the stressful reality of being an apostate, but a distraction tactic. That’s right, look at me, listen to me, laugh with me. Keep looking at me.

#herearedragons meta #I do like the idea of her being a witty troublemaker mage #and I do like the idea of her hanging out with Carver #but this other option also makes a lot of sense to me #also I think Malcolm’s influence would still show #with Secret always advocating for giving Bethany more freedom and letting her have fun #obviously that got overruled by Leandra a lot. and Secret would probably hear a lot about how she’s being irresponsible #and how she’s supposed to be her sister’s keeper #to which she’s probably respond with something like ‘exactly. and I’m trying to keep her from dying of boredom’#Malcolm entrusted her with the mission of making sure the family still has fun without him around #and if she has to be the problematic older sister to make that happen then so be it #honestly she would see ‘get into more trouble than Bethany so that nobody pays attention to her’ as a valid strategy #also like…. her being Malcolm’s shield as a child. the smiling absolutely normal daughter next to him on the chantry pews #Malcolm walking up to the revered mother with a little grin #‘revered mother. I must confess I have a secret’#and then his daughter pops out from behind his back #‘it’s me!’#the revered mother laughs. it’s an inside joke between the three of them at this point #nobody would imagine this man had an actual secret #and once Malcolm is gone and Bethany is the one who needs protecting #Secret does the same old routine for her #oc: secret hawke
