and see you can tell Sunyi Dean caught how fucked her worldbuilding was re: the incest thing and she was so uncomfortable with leaving it be that she just had to bring it up in the story in order to argue it away by saying they’re not that inbred because of the rotating door of wives girl fuck OFF
so the Six Families are inbred because there’s only these families in the UK and they cannot travel to the rest of Europe due to having 0 documentation that any of them exist. having a daughter is extremely rare and all female book eaters have about 2 kids at max before they become infertile because Reasons, except for sometimes when they have 3. so you’re trying to tell me that all these families wouldn’t be inbred to hell considering they all rarely have fucking female book eaters in the first place? get real

I honestly think there are so many funnier plots they could have followed in Freddie that don’t have such disturbing implications — with the same outcome, Freddie leaving, which is where I always thought this episode would lead anyway! I’m upset about the wasted potential, devastated by what happened to Marwa, and disappointed by the fact that the writers seem to have sought out the most unpredictable, batshit storyline for shock value and, I presume, because they thought it would be funny (it largely doesn’t seem to have been received that way).
I personally would have liked to see Freddie as an ensemble episode like Gail was, as I think that would have enhanced the humour of another human entering the household — because yes, Guillermo is usually our human “in”, but he’s far from normal. In fact, he’s as weird and unhinged as the vampires, more so sometimes, which would have been hilarious to see in juxtaposition to Freddie’s brand of blandness and normality. And I also think it would have worked better for Guillermo’s relationship with Freddie to fall apart because of Guillermo’s pre-established character traits — his lying and manipulating, pettiness, and devotion to the vampires. Of course Nandor would have played a part, but didn’t the writers tease this season’s (now seemingly incoherent) arc for Guillermo as him having to choose between worlds after gaining some emotional distance in London? Where was that in Freddie, which would have been the perfect opportunity to explain how Guillermo actually spent the year?
And I mean, it would be hilarious for Freddie to meet Baby Colin Robinson one day, and then to bump into him the next day only to find he’s transformed into an adolescent overnight. They could have kept that plot point, and the humour of Guillermo and the vampires trying to explain that to Freddie would, to me, have been classic WWDITS from earlier seasons.
Sorry for this very long ask, and thank you for reading this far if you get here! I’m very much struggling to make sense of this episode, but your takes on it have been helpful so far. I hope you’re doing okay too, it’s never fun when a show you love messes up 💜
It's a long ask, but a welcome one! I do agree with pretty much everything here. This is really kind of where I thought they were going with the season, finally having Freddie show up and Guillermo being unable to keep up the charade, sort of like with what happened with his family. I thought it would be Guillermo's issues that would cause the problem here, not this hellscape of a storyline. That would've felt more organic and, like you said, honestly funnier.
Freddie was so bland (and I say this as a former anth/arch major) and that made Nandor and Guillermo falling for him for any reason other than transference and desperation respectively hard to swallow. But that blandness would have been excellent if he'd been there to show how unhinged Guillermo really is. If either Guillermo's real life (and his tendency to lie) had turned Freddie off or if Guillermo had been forced to choose between a life that's normal, if pablum, and the vampiric life he'd come to love... I think both of those would have been very natural and organic outcomes.
I can think of so many ways to scare Freddie off that would have been hilarious! Or exciting! Or at least interesting! If they really wanted to push the friction between Guillermo and Nandor, there are even so many ways to scare him off that Guillermo could have blamed Nandor for!
It could have been so good, and again, I really do wonder if there were Djinn-related late-stage rewrites for the show. I don't mean this as an excuse; I actually think it's pretty dumb if they did. I just can't get my head around how this episode even came to exist. I feel like my brain shies away from it every time I try to incorporate it into the existing lore, and I may just have to... idk... do my best to ignore it going forward...? Write a lot of fix-it fic? Fuck.
It's wild because I was talking to my parents and my dad specifically said that it felt like they were going for shock value over characterization, and my mom said that it was "a huge disconnect". I was surprised that even non-fandom people were saying that. In my mom's words, "dad and I were legit depressed by this episode." So idk, I really don't think this is gonna be received well by the wider audience.
All this is kind of what I was getting at with my vaguing yesterday... I think I'm most bummed about all the missed potential and the way that this retrospectively makes a lot of storylines just kind of dumb and weird and half-baked. It really felt like they were building to some things that just never coalesced. But if you don't use all those bricks to make a house, you just have a pile of dirty ol bricks. lmao. It's wild that this episode was so bad that it retroactively made the rest of the episodes worse.
God, I just can't get my head around how this episode happened. I was never expecting, like, some prestige drama level of character building but I was expecting more than this. Because damn, this show rarely misses! This was less a miss than a fucking bomb going off, though.
It definitely is a struggle when your favorite show does something fuckin dumb like this. It's hard to figure out where exactly to go from here other than just like... fully ignoring parts of canon. And I've never had to do that with WWDITS. I never thought I'd have to. I'm really pretty sad about that.

#10 for the ask game, let's say for couple of shows you watch, you decide which ones
Thanks for asking, this is a really intersting one! :3
10. Most disliked arc? Why?
Huuuh, okay, lemme go through the shows I’m currently watching, see what I come up with. *tilts head*
Avengers Assemble: The current Black Panther’s Quest. But let me clarify: I don’t dislike the story of this arc itself; I dislike how it’s so awkwardly placed as an arc within Avengers Assemble. This should have been a spin-off, not a whole entire season’s arc of an Avengers show, considering the show has never given the individual Avengers huge standalone arcs like this before. As the plot for its own show this would be an amazing arc, but considering the show it’s on it’s... completely hijacking the show and that does bother me because when I watch an Avengers cartoon, I kind of want to see the Avengers in it, all of them, not just one? Just give him a spin-off, additionally to a real proper all-Avengers focused season of Avengers Assemble. It really ain’t that hard.
Buffy the Vampire Slayer: I am... absolutely startled to read that most of the fandom seems to dislike season 7 the most?? When in fact season 5 was the worst. The storyline of Dawn was so bad. Not just the retconning in of Sudden Little Sister and just how unlikable the character herself is, but also that the offered out wasn’t used. Just kill off Dawn in the end, use her as the key she is so this obnoxious character doesn’t have to be carried over to the next season, but nope, instead Buffy dies for her. IT was so dumb and so annoying and I find the overly religious story-arcs - whatever the religion - really creepy...
Doctor Who: I really disliked Clara’s post-resolution arc. She was such a good character and I really-really liked her and then the Impossible Girl was finally resolved... and she stayed. That was when she should have left. But that whole nonsense with Danny and how spiteful Clara turned toward the Doctor then and she still stayed around. Usually, this show cuts characters out too early, but in Clara’s case, she overstayed her welcome and the arc they forced there was just really not fun to watch...
Game of Thrones: I am mainly watching it for Dany’s arc, though also the Lannisters and Arya interest me. The others, not so much, but the worst arc is most definitely Bran. I just... care so little about him and what he’s up to, to the point that the one season where he wasn’t in it, I didn’t even notice he was missing. Only that then the next season, he was suddenly back and I was like “oooh... eeeh...”. He’s so boring and bad, I could do without him; the show has so much going on already.
My Little Pony: That last season. The story arc of the kids. This show is very distinctively about the Mane Six. And it was already stretching my patience when it went all about Starlight Glimmer, but now this attempt at making it about a next gen and their whole Elements of Harmony story arc? It was just... not interesting? There are enough established characters to focus on, even beyond the Mane Six. More about their families, more focus on the Cutie Mark Crusaders, Spike, heck the background ponies like Octavia. Those kids...? I just... really did not care about them, I don’t remember a single name of theirs. The kids could have been used to further the Mane Six’s plotlines, as mentee and giving each a bond with one of the Mane Six. But this entirely separate own plot for those six new characters... was just not what I was interested in, not after seven whole years and seasons of caring about the Mane Six. Seriously, they could have had the Cutie Mark Crusaders make new friends and focus more on them as the next generation, but introducing fully unrelated, new characters... did not make me care...
Once Upon a Time: This might surprise some, but it’s actually not the Fr0zen arc, because that... at the very least... did a rather okay job at trying to fix the massive plotholes in the movie. I can appreciate that. It ain’t the soft-reboot either considering I refuse to watch that; can’t judge what I haven’t actually seen. I really disliked 5A the most; the whole Dark Emma nonsense and just how emo she was, I also really hate the storytelling tool of “here have a shocking now and let’s unravel it all in flashbacks”, that was so tiresome to watch. I dislike how King Arthur, the King Arthur, was turned into a fucking villain and how unnecessarily dramatic it was.
One Piece: Fishman Island Arc. It used to be Skypiea, but honestly I just dislike Shirahoshi so much. I find her brand of character absolutely nerve-grading. There was not really anything happening in the arc, it pretty much felt like a filler arc even though it was a major one. Waste of time.
Riverdale: The... damn how do I decide? This show started off so good as a fun murder mystery with intriguing characters. Haven’t seen season 3 yet so can only judge the first two. But Betty’s father suddenly turning serial killer was just such a horrendously over the top and unnecessary plot?? Veronica’s dad being a mastermind criminal had at least been set up from the get-go and even Jughead’s dad being the head of a gang and honestly was anyone surprised Cheryl’s mom would send her to conversion therapy? Okay, okay, I will buy all of that. But Betty’s father doing the serial killer bullshit was just way too much and unnecessary and just bad.
Shadowhunters: The addiction arc. It was the worst to watch for me so far. For one, because I am hard against drugs and really dislike addiction and drug arcs in general, but for another because it was just so badly written. That Isabelle, a brilliant scientist with a brain, would just cheerfully agree to take this risky drug from Aldertree to begin with, the utter lack of motivation as to why Aldertree would deliberately get her addicted to drugs aside from it being convenient for drama, then just how Raphael was completely reduced to a tool to further Isabelle’s plot and we did not treat him like a character facing addiction himself. It was so bad.
Stranger Things: The “let’s hide Eleven in my cabin and start to have secrets!”-arc? The reason I really loved the first season was because it was very up-front and open. No unnecessary miscommunication. So to then, in the second season force this miscommunication between characters who had already developed trust with each other... it was so cringeworthy. Eleven hiding from the boys, the sheriff not talking to them either. There was absolutely no reason to it aside from padding the runtime of the season. And that’s what defines a bad plotline; if it serves no actual purpose and has no grounding foundation, no reason behind it aside from “plot required it”.
Suits: The removal of one of their main characters?? This show? Literally? Has? Two? Main? Characters? And only one of them is the actual lead that separates this show from every other lawyer show. And... then... they remove him? The entire season leading up to that had such a good arc that was setting a separation between Mike and his girlfriend up because there were problems and there was distrust and they grew apart so much and I figured “Okay well the actress is getting married to a literal prince and leaving the show so they’re going to make them break up, huh?” and then in the last second, they decide to kit this and make Mike move away with her? I haven’t seen the new season yet but I... really can’t imagine it working out...
Teen Wolf: I feel like I should say 6B, but... I seem to hate that so much that my brain actually managed to forget it? And that’s... rare, but it happens occasionally. When something is really very bad and awful, my brain manages to forget about it. I clearly remember Jackson and Ethan making out and the whole FBI!Stiles thing and that it was about A Nazi, but... what the Nazi did and what actually happened and what, aside from the Nazi, I hated so much about that half-season... I can not for the life of me remember. Thank the gods. So I gotta go with 3A, because the True Alpha arc was the biggest bullshit. Don’t break your mythology. Don’t. Just don’t. Suddenly, a pack can be made up of all-alphas? How? The other alphas shoulda fall into being betas after joining Deucalion?? They should have become omegas after killing their pack because by definition they had no pack anymore?? They should not have gotten more powerful for killing their own pack? It made absolutely no sense at all and completely contradicted the lore this show had set up so far? And that Scott was somehow a ~True Alpha~... I still don’t see what the fuck’s so special about that if it doesn’t come with actual natural leadership abilities, which it should if you are a true and thus natural alpha, aka leader?? It was dumb and forced and you could taste the “Oh shit we want The Main Character to become alpha but we accidentally created a world where you can only become alpha by killing and of course can we not have The Main Character kill anyone!!!”... So dumb. So stupid. Do not like.
Wynonna Earp: THE BIBLE NONSENSE. This show started out so strong. And there was absolutely no reason to pull a sudden Bible on it. Bulshar could have just stayed his own OC demon self and this show could have kept its own mythology, but to suddenly make him the snake from the Garden Eden? To suddenly involve angels? Season 3′s Bible arc was just so absolutely unnecessary.

DC Primer By Erza155 (for the absolute n00b
ok, before you even look at all of this, just know that this is all my personal opinion. just so you know
Movies
               Live Action
Justice League- Awesome. Awesome. You’ve probably already seen it.
Wonder Woman- See above.
Man of Steel- The first time I actually found myself actually being interested in Superman. This movie pushed me to actually research into Superman and see something beyond the corn-fed all-American boy narrative idiotic fanboys have shoved down our gullets for the last few decades.
Suicide Squad- Bomb soundtrack. It’s weird but it’s worth a try. A few members of the Justice League make 3 second cameos.
Batman vs Superman- The movie that launched a thousand superbat shippers. I personally like the cinammonmatography, but a lot of people disagree but that’s them.
Superman (2006)- I’m not sure how I feel about this movie. But Brandon Routh is pretty. And Routh!Superman/Bale!Batman was pretty big for a while. But it’s rare to see that around anymore.
               Cartoons
Superman vs the elite- Superman fights British dudes and goes crazy because of red kryptonite. People actually die because of Superman’s direct actions.
Justice League Animated Movies (2012-2017) Chronological Order
Justice League: Doom- Vandal Savage uses stolen information from Batman's secret files to mastermind a plan to exterminate the Justice League. That’s the plot. I actually don’t remember if I actually watched this movie? Make of that what you will.
Justice League: War- New 52 cartoon of the Justice League. This is how they come together in the new DC Universe. Has some casual Overlaps with the live action Justice League (2017) movie. Fun watch. Also, great banter between Green Lantern and Batman.
Justice League: The Flashpoint Paradox- Sadness. There’s a few moments of happiness, but this movie is fucking sad. It deals with what happens when you fuck with the timeline and it’s mcfucking weird. Now that the plebian opinion is out of the way, I personally loved this movie. It was so twisted and it made my tiny heart flutter.
Justice League: Throne of Atlantis- Atlanteans are coming for you bitches and Batman is not happy. ™
Justice League: Gods and Monsters- AU version of justice league. It’s bomb. It’s like Injustice and Justice Lords but with Vampires!
Justice League vs Teen Titans- Exactly what it says on the cereal box with additional prizes on the inside. But, this is the new teen titans led by my favorite brat, Damian Wayne.
Justice League: Dark- Magic! Adventure! Gambling with demons! Sassy Batman. This movie is coming for your wig. Be prepared. It’s awesome and I love it. But then again, I’m a slut for DC.
               Batman Movies
Batman: The Killing Joke- This one is weird. Read the original comic book instead.
Batman: Assault on Arkham- Suicide Squad, The Cartoon!
Batman: Gotham Knight- Apparently if you liked the Dark Knight Trilogy, this is the movie for you. It fills in the blanks for certain spots that the movies don’t touch and it has an interesting animation style.
(There’s a bunch more but I don’t exactly have high opinions of those, so yeah…)
Batman Has Problems with his Children/ Batman’s Problematic Children
Batman: Under the Red Hood- Jason Todd (Robin #2) comes back from the dead and kicks ass. Additional awesomeness in that Jason Todd is voiced by Jensen Ackles.
Son of Batman (2014)/ Batman vs Robin (2015)/ Batman: Bad Blood (2016)- Damian Wayne trilogy. If you like hyperviolent, bratty children who learn to come to terms with themselves, this is the movie for you. If not, oh well ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Batman and Superman Are Totally Super Manly Men Who Work Well Together
Superman/Batman: Public Enemies- Batman and Superman work together to stop Lex Luthor and a meteorite. I don’t remember watching this.
Superman/Batman: Apocalypse- Direct sequel to the above but can function as a stand-alone. Batman and Superman go to another planet. Wonder Woman and the Amazons are awesome. Big Barda reminds me once again that I am Gay™ for strong women. Supergirl is introduced.
 TV Shows
               Live Action
Smallville- The original. This baby ran for an actual fucking decade. And every live action superhero show that is currently airing in the U.S. needs to thank this show because it’s what started the whole phase.
Arrow- This show is about Green Arrow and a lot of people like it. I think I gave up somewhere between seasons 2 and 3. It wasn’t my cup of tea. The reason I’m mentioning it is because, it actually started an entire spinoff universe known as the arrow verse and every year there’s a really big crossover that gives lots of nerds boners. (me included)
The Flash- Spinoff of the Arrow? But it’s about the Flash. It’s #2 in the arrow verse. It’s interesting and I love it. They made Iris West black and I was here for it. Candice Patton is amazing, and each season only gets better. The more characters they add, the happier I am. Although, I do bitch sometimes. (I have never been satisfied- Hamilton)
Legends of Tomorrow- Spinoff of The Arrow and The Flash. Secondary characters from both shows come together in this show and travel through time. It’s beautiful. Like it’s actually really great. Please watch it. Also #3 of the Arrow Verse.
Supergirl- 1st season was by CBS and is currently the only season I’ve watched. It was pretty decent but it took a lot of Superman’s villains and transplanted them to Supergirl’s story. Also, Tyler Hoechlin played Superman in this show for a hot minute. People liked it. I try not to think about it too much. #4 in the arrow verse.
Arrow Verse Wiki for more info
Additionally, the DCEU has a bunch of extensive shows that do not relate to superheroes like Lucifer, Izombie, and Preacher. ← All of which are awesome shows with supernatural aspects by the way.
               Cartoons (In no Particular Order)
Young Justice-  Babies. Beautiful Babies. Season 3 is supposed to come out this year and I would sell my grandmother to salt mines just for an early peek.
Static Shock- Cartoon with a young black protagonist? Sign the fuck up! This show was my shit! It’s honestly really awesome and positive.
Teen Titans- You already know.
Batman the Brave and the Bold- Classic. Timeless. There’s not enough space or time. This show introduced me to Plastic Man and I would die for this show. And this version of Batman is honestly just amazing and everyone in this show is amazing. I love it.
Justice League- Ok so the original show is awesome but I don’t care if you watch it or not. The only thing I care about is that you watch the specific episodes I am going to list.
Episode #37- Season 2 Episode 11 “A Better World Part 1”
Episode #38- Season 2 Episode 12 “A Better World Part 2”
These two episodes are my shit. Please watch it. I’ve watched these specific episodes so many times. Just please.
Batman Beyond- Bruce Wayne is old and there is a new young Batman. This show is weird, but the interesting kind of weird. It wasn’t my cup of tea, but I didn’t hate it. Some of the episodes were actually gold though. Harley Quinn has twin Granddaughters.
Video Games
You’re asking the wrong person sorry. The only video game I care about is Injustice and I only watch the playthroughs for the Lore (animated version).
 Comics
               Personal Faves:
·         DC Bombshells
·         Gotham City Sirens
·         Injustice
·         Red Hood and the Outlaws
·         Earth One series
New 52 vs Golden Age vs silver Age
Ok, so unfortunately, comics are weird. Like really fucking weird.
This is the Timeline you need to remember in regards to DC specifically
Golden Age- 1930s to 1950s. Comic books were first being published. Batman was a caricature, and used guns. Superman fought the KKK.
Silver Age- mid 1950s to 1970s. Post World War 2. Introduced new heroes like the Flash. Parallel Universes introduced.
Bronze Age- 1970 to 1985. Teen superheroes are now an established thing. Also, DC fucked up a lot but these times are past
Modern Age- Hi! It’s your buddies dark and gritty storylines. Anything from 1985 until now falls into this era/age.
New 52- 2011 relaunch by DC. Introduced new canon and fucked all of us up.
Rebirth- 2016 relaunch. Once again, fucked all of us up.
Pick and choose what you want. It’s what we’re all doing.
If you want an additional document for shipping, please inform me.
