"This print was prompted by a quote from Virginia Woolf's 'Moments of Being - Sketch of the Past': 'standing at the flap of a tent watching the circus going on inside.' It reveals her feeling of being socially marginalised, a female writer amongst male contemporaries and resonates with the experience of women in the arts and wider society. Woolf's words made a clear impression in my imagination, subtly evoking tensions between concepts of hierarchy and inclusivity inherent in the idea of circus but obscured by the spectacle.
