JAMI’at-TIRMIDHI: The Book on Al-Witr: Hadith 1413
Jabir bin Abdullah narrated:
"Allah's Messenger would teach us Al-Isthikhara for all of our affairs just as he would teach us a Surah of the Qur'an, saying: 'When one of you is worried about a matter, then let him perform two Rak'ah other than the obligatory (prayer), then let him say: (Allahumma inni astakhiruka bi'ilmika, wa astaqdiruka biqudratika, wa as'aluka min falikal-azim, fa innaka taqdiru wa la qadiru, wa ta'lami wa la a'lamu, wa anta allamul-ghayub. Allahumma in kunta ta'lamu anna hadhal-amra khairun li fi dini wa ma'ishati wa aqibati amri, or said: Fi ajili amri wa ajilihi fayassirhu li,thumma barik li fihi, wa in kunta ta'lamu anna hadhal-amra sharrun li fi dini wa ma'ishati wa aqibati amri, or said: Fi ajili amri wa ajilihi fasrifhu anni wasrifni anhu waqdur Lil-khaira haithu kana, thumma ardini bih.)" 'O Allah! I consult Your knowledge, and seek ability from Your power, and I ask You from Your magnificent bounty, for indeed You have power and I do not have power, and You know while I do not know, and You know the unseen. O Allah! If you know that this matter is good for me in my religion or my livelihood, and for my life in the Hereafter - or he said: for my present and future - then make it easy for me, then bless me in it. If You know that this matter is bad for me in my religion and my livelihood and my life in the Hereafter - or he said: for my present and future - then divert it from me and divert me from it, enable me to find the good wherever it is, then make me pleased with it."He said: "And he mentions his need.

BASICS OF ISLAM: SUPPLICATION(DUA): PART 22
There is no rule stating that this or that supplication must be read after prayers. Everybody reads a supplication based on his own need. It is not appropriate to read the same supplication (say the same prayer) all the time. It is necessary to know consciously what one wants. It is not appropriate to pray without knowing what one wants. It is not appropriate to memorize certain things and to pray like reading a poem. Dua (supplication/prayer) should be made with an alert heart and silently; one should make dua in any occasion. When the Prophet (pbuh) performed a prayer, he would wipe his head with his right hand and say,
"In the name of Allah, except whom there is no deity. Only He is ar-Rahman (the All-Compassionate) and ar-Rahim (the All-Merciful). Remove sadness, grief and sorrow from me!" (Bukhari, Daawat, 35, 40)
"When you perform a fard prayer, say "Lailaha illallahu wahdahu la sharika lah. Lahul mulku wa lahul hamdu wa huwa ala kulli shay'in qadir (There is none worthy of worshipping but Allah alone, who has no partner. His is the dominion and to Him belongs all praise, and He is able to do all things)" ten times. A person who says so is given thawabs as if he freed a slave." (Bukhari, Adhan, 155)
According to what is reported from Muadh radiyallahu anh, the Messenger of Allah (pbuh) held his hand and said,
"O Muadh! By Allah, I really love you." Then, he said,
"O Muadh! I advise you to read the following supplication after every prayer: Allahumma ainni ala dhikrika wa shukrika wa husni ibadatik (O Allah! Help me with mentioning your name, thanking you and beautifying my worshipping you)." (Abu Dawud, Witr 26. See also Nasai, Sahw 60)
It is also possible to pray as follows:
Alhamdulillahi Rabbilalamin. Assalatu wassalamu ala Rasoolina Muhammadin wa ala alihi wa sahbihi ajmain. O Lord! Accept the prayers we performed! Make our end good! Enable us to utter kalima at-tawhid in the dying breath! Forgive and pardon our dead people! Allahummaghhfir warham wa anta khayrurrahimin. Tawaffani musliman wa alhiqni bissalihin. Allahummaghfir li wali walidayya wa lilmuminina wal muminat yawma yaqumul hisab. (O Allah! Forgive and have mercy and You are the best of the merciful. Make me die a Muslim and make me join the righteous! O Allah! Cover me, my parents, and believing men and women with Your forgiveness on the Day when the Reckoning will be established!) O Lord! Protect us from the evil of Satan, enemies and evil-commanding soul! Grant goodness, good sustenance to our household! Save the people of Islam. Damn and destroy the enemies of the religion! Help the Muslims who are fighting the unbelievers with Your divine assistance! "Allahumma innaka afuwwun karimun tuhibbulawfa fa’fu anni! (O Allah! You are the Forgiver and the Generous. You love to forgive; so, forgive me!)" O Lord! Give cure to the ill people and solutions to the people with problems! Allahumma inni asalukassihhata walafiyata wal-amanata wa husnalhulki warridaa bilqadari bi rahmatika ya arhamarrahimin. (O Allah! I ask health, welfare and trust and high ethics, consent to qadar and mercy from You! O the most Merciful of the Merciful!) Protect us from show off, hypocrisy, conflict, all kinds of diseases, accidents, misfortunes, laziness, weakness, humility, being oppressed, richness and poverty that will make us go astray, the evil of Satan and the soul, being defeated by the enemy, bad traits, going astray, insincere deeds, all kinds of sins, falling into unbelief, senility, tests at the time of death and the things that will harm our religion and worldly life! Enable us to have real belief, high ethics, a thanking heart, a tongue mentioning Allah, a good life showing consent to qadha and qadar, to eat, to sleep, to speak and to laugh a little, to serve Islam a lot, to be saved from penalty in the grave and the horror of the hereafter, to do deeds that will please You as long as we live, to die as a martyr and to have a belief and repentance in accordance with the creed of Ahl as-Sunnah at the time of death!

Action Plan for Ibadah During Last 10 Nights of Ramadan
Aisha (R.A) reported: With the start of the last ten days of Ramadan, the Prophet (S.A.W) used to tighten his waist belt (i.e. work harder) and used to pray the whole night, and used to keep his family awake for the prayers. [Bukhari]
Break your fast the Sunnah way: with dates and water. Pray Maghreb (in the masjid) immediately after breaking your fast. Don’t just sit around to have an hour-long aftaar meal before finally getting up for Maghreb prayer.
After prayer, have a light Aftaar meal. Start with fruits, give them 30 mins to digest. Then drink 2-3 glasses of water before eating your meal. Have a vegetable salad with your meal (keeps you full for longer and doesn’t drain your energy like fried food does).
Remember: How you eat at aftaar has a MASSIVE effect on your mental focus. Don’t eat to your FULL or else you’ll be extremely lethargic and won’t be mentally fresh for Ibadah.
Prepare yourself for Taraweeh prayers. Take your time to make wudhu meaningfully. Clean up, dress nice, smell nice and go to the masjid (for men). Pray Isha and Taraweeh prayers.
After Taraweeh, come back home (or stay in the masjid if you want to). When you get home, freshen up a little. Drink water, eat a little food, have a few dates, and then find a spot in the house where you won’t be disturbed by your family.
Write a list of all the personal duas in your diary, that you want to ask Allah S.W.T for during the last 10 nights. Keep that diary with you in your Ibadah spot. Also, keep your Quran with you, a bottle of water and a few dates if you want.
Leave your phone, laptop and all other gadgets elsewhere. Keep all distractions away from your Ibadah spot.
Don’t sit for long discussions with your family. Avoid all kinds of talk, including online chats. Staying silent is the best way to keep away from all the sins of the tongue.
Now it’s time to get busy with more Ibadah. Focus on three things during this time: DUA, QURAN and nafal PRAYER. You can pray Salat-al-Hajat and ask for all the important things you want from Allah or ask Allah S.W.T to remove any particular difficulty in your life that you’re going through.
Read Quran by absorbing yourself completely in the act.
First, recite the pages that you have to recite in order to finish recitation at least once in Ramadan. Recite in a loud voice in your best voice (find a spot where you can recite loudly without disturbing others).
Second, read the meanings of the verses (you can start from the beginning of the Quran if you haven’t been reading the Tafseer, or you can continue from wherever you left last). Pause and think about the meanings. Don’t be in a rush to quickly finish as much as you can. It’s all about making use of the time to do Ibadah. If you’re spending an hour reading Quran and doing nothing else, it doesn’t matter if you can’t read more than a few ayahs. You should not compromise the quality of your Ibadah just to get “more” done.
Narrated from ‘Abd-Allah ibn ‘Amr that the Messenger of Allah (S.A.W) said: “Fasting and the Quran will intercede for a person on the Day of Resurrection. Fasting will say, ‘O Lord, I deprived him of his food and his desires during the day, so let me intercede for him.’ And the Quran will say: ‘I deprived him of his sleep at night so let me intercede for him.’ Then they will intercede.” [Ahmad]
Third, memorize any short Surahs that you can. Or revise Surahs that you memorized in the past but have forgotten now.
Any time in between prayers and reading Quran, make this special “Lailat-ul-Qadr” dua: Aisha (R.A.) reported: I asked: “O Messenger of Allah! If I realize Lailat-ul-Qadr (Night of Decree), what should I supplicate in it?” He (S.AW.) replied, “You should supplicate: اَللَّهُمَّ اِنَّكَ عَفُوٌّ ، تُحِبُّ الْعَفْوَ فَاعْفُ عَنِّي Allahumma innaka ‘afuwwun, tuhibbul-‘afwa, fa’fu ‘anni (O Allah, You are Most Forgiving, and You love forgiveness; so forgive me).” [At-Tirmidhi].
Before the last third of the night, you can close your eyes for a few minutes to regain your focus, not to go in a deep sleep, just enough to give your brain a small reboot.
During the last third of the night, make fresh wudhu (the water will freshen you up and revive your mental focus). Drink a few glasses of water and begin your Qiyyam-al-laiyl. Pray at least 8 Rakahs of prayer. During prayer, make the sujood and the Rukooh longer and meaningful. Cry and immerse yourself in the prayer. Make longer duas after the nawafil and witr.
Eat a short suhoor an hour before the Adhaan so you can avail the last 30 mins before Fajr adhaan to make sincere dua. It’s the one last push you give yourself after suhoor, almost as if you’re making sure you’re among the ones standing in front of Allah S.W.T in Ibadah… right until the last minute.
They used to sleep but little by night (invoking their Lord (Allah) and praying, with fear and hope). And in the hours before dawn, they were (found) asking (Allah) for forgiveness, [Quran: Surah Adh-Dhariyat, Ayahs 17-18]
Follow this schedule for all the 10 nights, not just the odd ones. And if, for some reason, you can’t make it work for 10 nights, make it work for at least the odd nights– 21, 23, 25, 27 and 29.

El painting Annie’s face for Halloween.
I like this poor boy’s sad attempt at putting his hair in a high ponytail, baby’s got a few more months to go for it to work. XD
I had to admit defeat, I don’t really know where I wanted to take this, but it’s cute and I AM happy with the angles on El’s head +hands and Annie’s content face.
