Doing it all...

In this relationship, I am alone With a man who only thinks of his own His words are excuses, empty and thin As he ignores the pain he causes within

I pour out my heart, but he won't listen He only hears his own voice and ambition His promises are shallow and soon forgotten While my pain and frustration remain unspoken

I thought love was selfless, but he proves me wrong With each passing day, my heart feels less strong I crave his attention, his love and his care But all he gives is apathy and despair

I wonder how long I can carry on this way In a relationship where I am just a castaway I dream of a love that's true and pure But with him, I know that's just a lure

So I must be brave and walk away From a man who only causes me dismay I deserve a love that's kind and true And I won't settle for less, no matter what I do.

The Book of Wisdom as a sapiential book teaches how the wisdom of God acted in the human history. And one of the most important messages of this book is that only in God is the true power to punish or bless. That is why true spirituality, or spirituality properly understood, consists in fearing God and not men. If men are more attentive to what others think of them and forget how God judges, that is when the problems begin. The fear of God is the bond of union with God, and those who live this spiritual gift above all other things are blessed, joyful, and happy. The spiritual gift of fear of God is defined as constancy, firmness, devotion, equanimity, and stability. And the Book of Wisdom reminds us of a very interesting story about this subject, the story of the bronze serpent related in the Book of Numbers. Many Israelites during the journey with Moses to the promised land had lost their fear of God and began to speak against God and Moses, so God punished the Israelites with poisonous snakes. Moses prayed to God, and the Lord ordered him to make a bronze serpent and so those who were bitten when they saw the image were healed. Thus the Israelites repented of their sin against God and recognized the sovereignty of the creator; as a conclusion of the teaching, only God should be truly feared and not mortals. With these words remind the Book of Wisdom this spiritual truth: "You have power over life and death. You lead people down to the gates of hell, and you bring them back up again. Humans can indeed kill by their evil, but they can't bring back the life that has expired or restore the spirit that has been taken away" Wisdom 16:13-14.

The book of Proverbs, like every sapiential book, calls us to reflection, with a set of affirmations, the book teaches us a spiritual truth, depending on which path we choose, to live as fools or to live as wise men, this will be our destiny. If we choose the science of wisdom, the knowledge of the correct means to live, we will receive rewards, if we choose the path of error we will receive punishments. The book of Proverbs, as an expression of this instruction, contrasts a spiritual good in opposition to an apparent good, if greed dominates our will at the expense of truth and wisdom, nothing edifying will come out of that choice; so the wise man wrote: "A faithful person will be richly blessed, but one eager to get rich will not go unpunished," Proverbs 28:20. And this statement is true because the apparent goods, like money and honors, are scarce and a reason for dispute among men, when men compete for money and riches, the immoral agreements appear behind the backs of others, and also hidden enemies, deceit, and concealment to obtain favors, the result is an oppressive society created on the basis of walls that have to be guarded by soldiers. And above all this, the Bible gives us some cases to take into account, for example, the history of Nabal and David (1 Samuel 25:4-39). When David was persecuted by Saul, David asked Nabal to share some of his wealth with him as a proof of friendship, Nabal refused any kind of help to David, but Nabal's wife made an agreement with David, and so Nabal died from a strong emotion. Nabal lived like a foolish, slave to his riches and paid the price. Wisdom preserves life, a truth that Nabal did not want to understand. We are free people and no one besides us can force us on which path to choose: "God in the beginning created human beings and made them subject to their own free choice" Ben Sira 15:14.
