I've named the most common jobs I can think of! I want to see how many people have worked each of these. Vote the one you did the longest, or was the most notable, but only mark "none" if literally no job you have ever had applies at all.
I realize the things I grouped weren't all that related, but I had a limited number of spaces to cover.. all jobs lol. So just vote the closest applicable option!
Tell me what jobs I should have included! I'd love to hear from you.
Reblog for sample size :)

ACAB should also mean "All Corporates are Bastards"
You know how good cops are essentially bullied or sued out of their profession for openly calling out crimes, corruption etc., leaving behind the bullies and tyrants? If I just look around the work force, listening to work stories friends and family tell me, the same shit happens to actual good managers or HR people.
One manager has problems getting a raise for a respected, hardworking employee because their higher ups simply refuse to. That employee possesses decades worth of internal key knowledge so if that employee leaves, they're fucked
Another boss was fired because they were "too lax", treated their employees too well and was regarded threat to company profits
Good managers do not last long in a company that leeches out the live of its employees just to make a profit.

My partner's boss literally told him today that she is cutting his hours and won't let him work because he sometimes has to stop home to help me with our autistic 5-year-old, and my partner's boss doesn't understand why our autistic 5 year old needs more help and more care than her neurotypical 10 to 18 year old kids.
I'm sorry, but as an autistic adult and as a very protective parent, I want to smack her.

U.S. Productivity has been almost non stop rise since 1946/47 And the Rich have been working us to death for that productivity, and low-key not so low-key saying people can be replaced by robots, and actively shipping jobs to lower wadge and lower safety standard nations for decades... AND yet a 3 year pandemic kills a 1 Million people and perma-sick several 10's of thousands, and even more are just tired of working for jobs that drain the life out of them so they DO move to something better, and business owners and economists are scratching their head wondering WHY? Huh. Maybe they can make that productivity gap up with all the robots to take our jobs like they've been saying for years. Oh wait those robots are not yet fully operational, and even then still need human oversight and even some jobs machines still can't do YET. Interesting is the Bank of England is saying the obvious part but a bit quietly.

Metropolis (1927)
Sometime in the future, the city of Metropolis is home to a Utopian society where its wealthy residents live a carefree life. One of those is Freder Fredersen. One day, he spots a beautiful woman with a group of children, she and the children quickly disappear. Trying to follow her, he is horrified to find an underground world of workers who apparently run the machinery that keeps the Utopian world above ground functioning. One of the few people above ground who knows about the world below is Freder's father, Joh Fredersen, who is the founder and master of Metropolis. Freder learns that the woman is called Maria, who espouses the need to join the "hands" - the workers - to the "head" - those in power above - by a mediator who will act as the "heart". Freder wants to help the plight of the workers in their struggle for a better life. But when John learns of what Maria is advocating and that Freder has joined their cause, with the assistance of an old colleague. an inventor called Rotwang, who turns out to be But their nemesis goes to works towards quashing a proposed uprising, with Maria at the centre of their plan. John, unaware that Rotwang has his own agenda., makes plans that include shutting down the machines, with the prospect of unleashing total anarchy both above and below ground.

one of the most infuriating things about becoming an adult is when you realize that it actually is 10x easier to solve problems by making a phone call vs literally any other communication method

‼️a little tmi rant about being sick and calling off work
i should not feel guilt for calling out of work! i just spent 3hrs destroying the bathroom with the garbage can in my lap, sweating through all my clothes, haven’t eaten anything since lunch yesterday and im still over here thinking ‘i should be good for work in a couple hours.’ no i wont! i will not. i can guarantee that i wont be ok. i can guarantee that if i do call off all of my coworkers will talk shit about me all day bc we’re so short staffed. which is not my problem so if i call off, deal with it like i do when the three other people in my area all call off on the same day and no one tells me about it (like they did a month ago).
also, i’m newer so i haven’t build up much sick time yet so this will push me into the negative sick hours but how is it my fault they give the new employees like, 3 days to stretch out for almost a year? while other employees have 30+ days and can call off whenever they want.
maybe we should focus on how shortstaffed we are to the point of villainizing people who call off. instead of villainizing the people who call off. but what do i know?
i’m literally lying here feeling miserable, counting how long it’s been since i last called off (2months) and wondering if its worth it or if i should just go to work and suffer until midnight. why are we like this?

Origin of Boxing Day
Tumblr media
If you live in an Area that Celebrates Christmas, you may also be familiar with Boxing Day. Celebrated on the 26nd of December; the day after Christmas. In modern times it's mainly used as an excuse to sell product that didn't leave shelves before Christmas. And it's sold at highly discounted rates to make room for new year stock. But in many places, Boxing Day is also a National Holiday. So why are we taking a day off to shop?
To answer that, we first need to go way back to when Christmas was still 12 days long, and people Celebrated like it was a free for all frat party. There was drinking, gambling, vandalism, and over all utter chaos. People like role play and switch who was whom. Masters and servants switching places was a common game to play. But, due to all the lengthy and public chaos Christmas brought, is was actually banned. No more merriment. It was brought back later in a way so people can Celebrate for one day and in Private.
But there in lay the problem with only one day to Celebrate. The servants would be needed to cook, clean, and help host Christmas for the Wealthy Masters. And it was acknowledged by the masses that this wasn't entirely fair. So the day after Christmas, servants were often given the day off. Left overs would be boxed up so the servants could have some seasonal food, and their Masters would also give them gifts of appreciation; often in a box. The concept of wrapping every gift in pretty boxes or gift wrap wasn't a common thing until the Victorian Era.
Some people speculate the reason why it's called boxing day is because the Wealthy would Box up their un-needed items and donate them to the needy. A trend started by Queen Victoria. I think this explains why the name Boxing day stuck, but I am still convinced the reason for it's existence was to give people who had no choice but to work on Christmas a chance to Celebrate.

Y’all, the Archive admins are made up of VOLUNTEERS. And they have been working for 12-13 HOURS STRAIGHT.
I better not hear any complaints when donation period comes around. OR ELSE.

EDIT: How do we show appreciation to the volunteers? For me reading these deep dives on OTW issues u guys apparently it's been said multiple times that one of their objective statements is to have paid staff for ao3 and there's a surplus of donations they haven't used up or the other community solutions that needs to address. For those more financially literate feel free to analyze, snipe me or add to the discussion etc. linked here by deepa. They’re cool and these yearly analysis they did aint no joke.

But Seriously what can we do for these volunteers? The probable burn out from this entire fiasco would be no joke. @ao3org
