The Crystal Isles guide (2023)

Alright tumblr folks if anyone even reads these, Ive started working on the character sheets and i decided to put in fictional places as part of their info, however tumblr dont have the context for the silly floating place yet so im just gonna drop this here real quick

This post oughta be a bit long. Written in November 2023, copypasted from my Deviantart (dont go there)

This is The Crystal Isles, its where The Scarlet Manor's story takes place in and its cool

originally a sunken landmass that resurfaced from the rise of gigantic seamonsters centuries ago, it sits in the Oceania continent , got marked as us territory, its a wild place

one half of the country is populated with humans, and the other is populated with vampires (or mutants if youre a science nerd but just call them vampires)

the yellow white + red blue represents the division between humans and vampires, with the white+ yellow representing the sun and sky, and the red + blue representing the bloodshed and deadly oceans vamps are associated with

the two races are in a truce though bc the only way to combat the ocassional leviathans invading their country is by working together

Making for some very interesting dynamics.

This whole country is still a draft , so things are expected to be changed and expanded in the future, but thats still in the future . Anyway-

First we'll start off with the human zones:

Emeralis- this is mainly more of a military headquarters area but theres the One (1) city in here that residents live in , theyre middle class and working class, and some are homeless from other regions that had no other choice but to move here, this region is also one of the main two barriers that divide the humans from the vampires, outside the wall you enter Lazule

Carneli- now this ones BIIGG its the second biggest region in the human portion and its thriving, main agricultural grounds and the source of food, has a very diverse cuisine culture raging from cool garden salads to seafood by the region's edge

Quartzfort- home to the richest mfs of the isles, very pretentious and extremely wealthy region , also home to very shady and crappy people . claims themselves as the main representative of humans in the entire isles, so everyone has to look their best all the time, No Exceptions, none, ever

Amethys- the one gateway to Crystal isles to the rest of the world, you cant enter from anywhere else. theres lots of planes here !!! and airline stations, and a super diverse population of people because they come from all over the globe (whats left of it, anyway) . because of so many people living here, its also beome a huge entertainment center, showbiz, bootleg crystal hollywood, whatnot

Opalis- a fifth region that i didnt include here because it doesnt have its own flag currently. but its still a crucial part of the country, the second barrier of the isles. once a thriving region turned into the experimenta. grounds of this mega science corp called SCI-REN , absolutely deplorable company that endorses child experimentation and killing for the name of science, its awful . but what can anyone do about it ? theyre powerful af and has built themselves up to the top where noone can plummet them down

Now onto the vampire regions (or if you want to be fancy; Mutant Zones)

Lazule- the main setting the story, the flag is designed after a moonflower because its all over the place and they like that. The region is the main source of entertainment amongst vampires so you got the arena, vampire hollywood (if they named it vollywood im gonna do something bad to myself) and other cool celebrities, its also very tech savvy, you got the tech bros in here and Perlas

Ruby- hellhole. thats it Ruby is a hellhole, its very impoverished next to Tanzan and has extremely high crime rates and child abuse cases, unethical labor, trafficking, very corrupt government, further screwed over by the higher ups from the richer regions. you get noodles and chilli here also

Tanzan- another hellhole, also impoverished and is the origins of the most brutal sport of vampires named "dogfighting" which is basically make hungry vamps attack each other to the death while you place your bets on them , they have a tough warrior kind of culture around these parts, very into solving things with violence

Perlas- Richest and also biggest region in the vamps portion , also has a lot of factories and mass produce, partners with Lazule in their tech bizz, pretty shady though , theres jerks here who profits off of the suffering of Tanzan + Ruby and pays trashy big corps

Sapphire- the token vegan region , theyre cool here and they want to prove that vampires can still live without abusing the animals in the meat industry and just. not eat meat at all , considered "progressive" in their time, they eat more legumes because honestly as much as they crave blood they just need the protein . popularized blood and meat alternatives, go green , blablabla

Azur- buddies with Sapphire ! though they still eat meat but theyre more of omnivores, Sapph encouraged them to eat more leaves. good for them , there economically on the down low and have the smallest population but honestly ? theyre the chillest region by far, theyre vibing. oh also they popularized eating bugs

I also have this other world specifically for my sona that's sortaaa backrooms like. Essentially it's mainly a colorful abstract void, with floating clusters of debri that come from material slipping out of space in other universes. Some of these clusters have islands one could sustainably live on, or buildings. Buildings seem to be extremely attractive to anomalies, and many often exhibit impossible layouts. Anything from having additional rooms to being immeasurably massive complexes or connecting to other locations in the "main" void. My sona is just another inhabitant of this space and just kinda goes exploring. Due to how massive the place is and the fact that most buildings seem to actively keep people away from eachother it doesn't see others too often, and gets pretty excited when it does. Though due to its intimidating appearance it's excitement is interpreted as aggression and it usually ends up scaring its would-be acquaintance. Poor goober.

I probably forgot because I don’t have an rp tracker set up! Just know I am not trying to ignore anyone, I’m just scatterbrained.)

I keep meaning to start an actual worldbuilding document for ACOH now that I have time but I keep putting it off to play video games. Remind me to do that at some point

Masterclass of an emotional episode from start to finish. Even though there’s not a lot of physical action it’s an action packed episode.

Rudeus’ reaction to seeing Nanahoshi was so realistic and well done. The screaming, PTSD flashback, that desperate crawl to get away, it really captured just how terrified he was. Rudeus’ past life was horrible and he’s finally found a decent one here. The thought of that being taken away from him is truly scary.

Directors clearly have a thigh fetish with the way they were focusing on Nanahoshi thighs during the explanation scenes, but I ain’t complaining lol.

So much background information and lore explained in this episode. Anime onlies are sure to have a lot of questions. Episodes like this where the fantasy aspect of the world and the worldbuulding are emphasised so much make me fall in love all over with MT.

Sylphie’s outburst was chilling. Goosebumps throughout that scene. Someone normally so polite and reserved snapping like that and switching to referring to Nanahoshi as “お前” really captured just how furious she was. Almost wanted that scene to go on longer just because of how well her seiyuu did.

The ending shot of Sylphie/Fitz trying to keep up with Rudeus is so nice as well. Lot of symbolism in that. As a kid she was behind Rudeus in terms of magical abilities and maturity and thought of him as an ideal to strive towards. Even at the university she still admires and wants to be like him. That whole situation Nanahoshi situation got her questioning just how close they are.

actually i just realised i need to like. figure out what the corrie guard does. i was so caught up in the euphoria of new OCs that for a minute i lived in a world where canon worldbuulding didn't exist

I wish I had more people to talk to about my worldbuulding. Bouncing ideas off each other and stuff but also having someone else be invested in my little stories would keep me motivated to actually fill them out and write/illustrate them.

If you have idea’s for worlds or stories in your head, but you have trouble solidifying them into something coherent.

Write them down. Lay out the peices that you have in your head, only then can you properly put them together.

If you are uncertain about a specific piece of lore ore a plotline, write it down on a sticky note, or with pencil, so long as you write it down. You just need to get it out of your head and in front of you.

Ohh omg you’re right I just had a though. You know how the triforce is an allegory for Link’s journey through the games (he starts with courage, but after solving puzzles and defeating enemies and getting armour and equipment he grows in wisdom and power) so energy bending requires “your own spirit to be unbendable” right?

So now I’m thinking of all triforce users have some affinity with energy bending, it could be a nice parallel to the older loz games where Ganondorf tries to take the triforce, but it splits into three pieces because “his spirit is bendable” or whatever, so now I’m thinking three aespects of energybending are split amount the users. Zelda would have the ability to take away bending (which lines up well with royal authority and stuff) Link...is the avatar (so he got a lot of energy/spirit because wow four elements, he reincarnates with the energy spirit shit, and all that) and the calamity is just true power stuff (like actually bending pure energy and shit)

Perused the d*shonored ao3 tag briefly and boy I actually should write my fic that I have in snippets cause nothing is the kinda thing I want

this last episode was insane and i can’t wait for next week! one thing ive seen mentioned is sir keratin’s comment about three daggers. now my first thought was they’d find it in his quarters and maybe it was meant to lead them towards primogen alfredi, but after a bit of thought i think keratin did have three daggers on him, and they’re only a one-use weapon. firstly when candy and water mix (or water and anything tbh), depending on proportions the water can be absorbed by the candy. also, after killing amethar, keratin was supposed to just walk away like he couldn’t save the king. difficult to do if he had incredibly incriminating evidence on his person that would certainly be found when the soresians searches everyone in the crowd like they planned. i think the first dagger is what did the initial damage to amethar, and after stabbing him the other two would have also dissolved, allowing keratin to get off scot free. also on an in-game level, a weapon that can essentially instakill and is effectively untraceable since it dissolves on contact is narratively insanely interesting
