🍄 - share a headcanon for one of your favorite ships or pairings

Y'all know I've gotta do percabeth, lol. Honestly though, it's hard to pick something I haven't already shared here, or written about in fic! A lot of my headcanons for them make their way, subtly and/or overtly, into my writing. 🤷‍♀️ But here's one I maybe haven't gone into yet: I think that once they settle somewhere, they both kind of become homebodies. They've done SO MUCH traveling as a result of terrifying, life-threatening quests over the years that I think it's lost some of its luster, and that staying home usually sounds infinitely more appealing to them! I don't mean to say that they don't even go on vacations, but I would imagine they are typically pretty chill vacations, with only a few bigger or more significant trips - they'd rather go to Montauk with Percy's family, visit Annabeth's in San Fran, see friends across the country, rent a cabin in the mountains to have a little more privacy, etc. I think international travel in particular makes them wary and a little anxious, and they probably only go if their kids/other friends and family want to go somewhere. I think they view travel as a means to an end - seeing loved ones, relaxing, etc - and don't find the idea of travel JUST for travels sake very exciting. Too many bad memories, too many times when a fun trip has been co-opted by monsters and peril and world-ending nonsense.

❄️ - what's your dream theme/plot for a fic, and who would write it best?

Hmm, this is such an interesting question! Like anybody and everybody I have favorite tropes, but I'm not sure I've ever had one particular dream theme/plot that I've held above all the others that I haven't been willing to try writing myself? I love love love historical AUs as a general category, and often wish there were more of them, but because I wish that, I'm trying to write one! 💀 I'm a big believer in people writing what makes them excited and happy, so I feel a little odd about asking someone to write what I want them to write, rather than what they want to write? That being said, I think @campercabeth could write a damn good LotR×PJO percabeth as Arwen and Aragorn crossover AU. 👀

@firenati0n is just consistently one of the most lovely positive people in my life. @sparklepocalypse is here for every bullshit unhinged idea and is on my wavelength to a scary degree. I genuinely don't know how I'd have gotten through the last couple of months of Personal Upheaval without @happiness-of-the-pursuit in my corner.

And I have to give a massive shoutout to the Original Novel Hype Group Chat of @indestructibleheart @rmd-writes @inexplicablymine without whom I definitely would have given up on pursuing this ridiculous dream at least fourteen times so far.

Answered this one here and here but here is another: After Andrea met TK and really started opening up her heart and mind to Carlos being gay and in love with another man, she began seeking out queer art, books, shows, so she could learn more about the community her son is a part of. Carlos recommends and lends her things! I touch on this in my fic Wrestling Angels.

🏜️ ⇢ what’s your favourite type of comment to receive on your work?

I love it when an aspect or overall theme leads a reader to discuss something and it gets a bit more personal and chatty. Fire Island and Sweet Dreams and Flying Machines led to comments in which people shared their memories and feelings about the AIDS crisis and about 9/11 respectively. I guess it makes it seem like the fic has a bit more 'social impact' in a way. It's quite amazing when that happens.

Haha @lemonlyman-dotcom... right? You have been so supportive and friendly from the beginning - the beginning being pre-tumblr when you were leaving such lovely comments on my fics. When I saw you'd set up your tumblr I was so happy to be able to interact with you on here too. And now look!

And @thisbuildinghasfeelings - you were one of the first people I spoke to on here and your kindness and enthusiasm not just towards my writing is just incredible and I feel very lucky you're here.

@heartstringsduet your comment on Afterglow of a Supernova basically changed my life in that it made me instantly more confident in my writing, like it represented a turning point in how I felt about it, and you've always been in my corner. And you've made art for my fics???!!!

@goodways you have been so lovely about my fics I feel like I can never thank you enough and your comments always make me laugh and make me think. Your feedback always means the world to me.

@herefortarlos your enthusiasm for my fics, all fics and this fandom is a thing of beauty and so inspiring.

@welcometololaland you were one of the first people to ever tag me in anything and I remember it vividly because I couldn't believe it haha. Your comments are always so hilarious and make me feel like I've done something right, and without you I wouldn't have written I Was Thinking About Your Mouth, so I am forever grateful for that and for you being such a good sounding board when I complain about work!

ahhhh okay so since I was tagged in a variety of these, I'm combining them! I've been playing around with how Jace and Maeve's first kiss is going to happen. I have so many ideas for this since it's a slow burn (and I'm little miss impatient when it comes to the slow burn burning) and the opportunities are limitless, please give me some feedback or a way you think it should happen (whether it's in a comment, reblog tags, ask, or private message)! bonus points if you've been reading the chapters as I've published them on AO3, which I know many of you have been (which thank you so so so much for all the love and support you have been giving me and Your Average Fangirl !! whenever I'm having a bad day at work, you never fail to make me want to cry happy tears at your comments, reblogs, kudos, etc)

without further ado, here's a first kiss scene <3

“Truth or dare?” Lucas asks, a small smirk dancing on the edges of his lips.

“Dare,” the word is out of my mouth before I can fully think of anything remotely gross he could dare me to do, being out in the middle of nowhere and all.

A full grin takes over his face as he says, “I dare you to sit in Jace’s lap,” he points towards where Jace sits to the right of me, “and make out with him for one full minute.”

“No way,” I laugh nervously. There’s no way he just suggested I make out with Jace. “That’s not gonna happen,” I shake my head.

Kai and Gabriel both laugh, shaking their heads at Lucas for such an inappropriate dare this soon in the game.

“You don’t have to do that,” Jace says to me before turning to Lucas, giving him a look I can’t decipher. “She doesn’t have to do that.”

“Come on,” Lucas taunts, “it’s just a dare.”

It’s just a dare. Except it’s not. I’m a fangirl, I’ve probably dreamt of this situation hundreds of times. But to actually do it? That’s too much pressure. Too much pressure to be perfect. In my head? I’m the perfect kisser. In reality? I could be mediocre. What if I ruin kissing for Jace?

“It’s just a dare,” Kai echoes, shrugging a shoulder as I meet his eyes.

“Come on, do it,” Lucas whines and I know he won’t drop it until I do.

With a deep, steadying breath, I get up and slowly walk over to Jace. His eyes widen as I lightly place my hand on his left shoulder.

“It’s just a dare, right? Meaningless?” I add the last part for his benefit, my heart beating so hard I swear I can feel the vibrations in my fingertips.

He nods, wetting his lips.

For some unknown reason, my heart sinks at his response. This is going to be meaningless. It doesn’t matter if I kiss him tonight or a year from now, I’ll only ever be a fan. A friend at most.

I gently crawl onto Jace’s lap and he moves so that I’m straddling him, my legs dangling on either side of his hips. His friends start hooting and hollering as I remind myself one last time that this means absolutely nothing.

Then, I lower my lips onto his.

The kiss starts slow, gentle, but my heart never slows down as his hands roam my body. His fingers dive into my hair as he pulls me impossibly closer, deepening the kiss. I wrap my arms around his neck as I lean into him, letting him take control.

His hands slide down my back and his fingers tickle the bare skin on my lower back, causing me to shiver at the sensation.

Jace smiles against my lips before pulling away and kissing a line down my jaw, where he finds the sweet spot on my neck and starts peppering it with kisses.

A timer goes off loudly, causing me to jump away from him and land harshly on the ground in front of his chair.

My chest heaves up and down in quick breaths as I refuse to look up at Lucas, Kai, and Gabriel, who are all laughing and clapping as if they’ve watched the best show.

I run my fingers through the grass, reminding myself of what’s real. What just happened, everything I just felt, it wasn’t real. It was meaningless. It practically never happened.

After a few more minutes of trying to calm my heart, I get up and walk quickly to the tour bus before slamming the door shut and burying myself into the covers in my bunk. Embarrassing. That was so embarrassing.

basically what I was going for with this scene is that Lucas knows there's something going on between Maeve and Jace (whether that's from mere observation or Jace confiding in him) and he knows nothing will happen unless he forces their hand a little. he bands together with Kai and Gabriel to egg them on into doing this, not thinking that he may be harming what could've happened naturally. he's definitely the golden retriever of the group, though!

one song I really associate with this scene for some reason is Dead Inside by LØLØ, which I'll link here :)

This is my Nadja, and her evolution over the past 2 years and 10 months - from newborn foster kitten to fully grown forever cat.

🧩 ⇢ what will make you click away from a fanfiction immediately?

Well, assuming there are no ships, themes or tags that would keep me from even clicking the fic in the first place: too little use of paragraphs. If I open a fic and I'm met with walls of text, my brain goes 'Nope' and I exit the fic immediately. My brain cannot compute big walls of text in fics.

@f1writingbyme is a given because the chances of me having updated her live on the entire process are high. Also @il-predestinato because I have a feeling she would be excellent at helping with the clean-up and figuring out a way to get me out of it. @fueledbyremembering for moral support and assurances that I wouldn't go to jail.

Atsumu and Sakusa are huge hypocrites (and haters) when it comes to various issues. Especially when it comes to love matters.

They will hold hands and talk to each other about how annoying Hinata and Kageyama's flirtations are. They will exchange disgusted faces or feign gagging as they listen to Bokuto talk about Akaashi, even though they are both hugged tightly to each other. Atsumu keeps complaining to Omi about Osamu that he's such a pathetic idiot in love, while Sakusa strokes his hair and places soft kisses on Atsumu's face.

Hating other people's acts of love? Yes. Being the most annoyingly clingy couple? Also yes. This is Sakuatsu for you.

(I love this headcanon so much that I wrote fic using this trope hahah)

I was in 4th grade and my friends and I really wanted to date the Backstreet Boys. We discovered fanfiction was the most fun way to do it. We would write our lil’ self-insert love stories in notebooks that we would pass around and share.

Pumped Up Pop. I’m a 90s kid and Pop runs deep in me. 

🔪 ⇢ what's the weirdest topic you researched for a writing project?

I don’t think anything can be considered weird for a writer doing research anymore. But one thing I remember working extra hard on was researching how to pilot a jet for a Marvel action fic. That’s why I admire and commiserate with @scyllas-revenge for her helicopter piloting scene in BLCI. 

🐇 ⇢ do you prefer writing original characters, reader inserts, or a mix of both? 

Mix of both. Reader Inserts to make others happy, OC fics to make myself happy. 

🍄 ⇢ share a head canon for one of your favourite ships or pairings

I would write an entire essay explaining this one, but in the SotWK AU, Elvenking Thranduil and Elvenqueen Maereth are metaphorical avatars for the Valar couple Oromë and Vána, and were destined to be such (as they were destined for each other). The qualities they each possess which make them similar to these Valar--Thranduil's strength and skill as a protector/warrior and Maereth's gifts for nurturing and fertility--are what safeguard and sustain Eryn Galen for thousands of years, holding their people fast even against Sauron.

@talesfuzzy is constantly on my notifs since she likes so many of my posts on a daily basis. She also reblogs some of the best Tolkien content, which I often put into my own queue. We don't really talk, but she's like that friendly person you see on your daily commute whose name you might not know but you smile and nod to each other till they've become a comfortingly reliable part of daily life.

❄️ ⇢ what's your dream theme/plot for a fic, and who would write it best?

I would LOVE a thrilling action fic where Thranduil and all five Thranduilion Princes march into battle at the same time and completely crush the enemy because there is possibly no greater or more fearsome fighting team left in Middle-earth. However, such a plot would violate my own AU’s headcanon, because in Thranduil’s family, there is a hard rule that the Thranduilions can never all be fighting in the same battle at once; Thranduil simply refuses to risk his family that way. 

I would hire/nominate/beg @ass-deep-in-demons to write it. If you’ve read her fic, “Under Our Darkening Skies”, you’ll know she’s the top pick for incredible and cinematic battle scenes. 

🍅 ⇢ give yourself some constructive criticism on your own writing

I find myself reusing a lot of the same lines and expressions, especially when describing character emotions and actions. Sometimes I feel my writing is pedestrian and boring, especially compared to many other writers in the Tolkien fandom who have such eloquent, sophisticated styles and brilliant, creative word choices. I'm quite soppy and sentimental too, but that's just my thing. 

🌸 ⇢ do you have any pets? if you do, post some pictures of them

Sadly, I have not had a pet since my early 20s. I had plenty of them growing up, though, including my beloved yellow Lab. Once my kids are old enough to share in pet care duties, we are definitely getting a dog. 

🧸 ⇢ what's the fastest way to become your mutual?

Talk to me about my Thranduilion Princes, pretty please! (There are many easy ways to be Moots with me, but this is a guarantee and the fastest way!)

I am lucky and grateful to have a solid band of supporters, but I want to grab this chance to send a special shout out to @achromaticerebus. She has been a big supporter of my Thranduilion Princes since she discovered them early on, she comments on ALL my Thranduil/Thranduilion stories, she gushes about them to me and with me, and her enthusiasm just keeps me motivated. She is not herself a writer, and it's so rare to find a friend so willing to just be a reader and supporter, when there's really no way to “pay back” her kindness.

🏜️ ⇢ what's your favourite type of comment to receive on your work?

Point out even just one specific detail or line of dialogue and tell me how it made you feel, your thoughts about it, or even ask a follow up question! I am most impressed when a Reader points out an Easter egg or interesting tidbit/headcanon/lore I included. I am over the moon when their comments show they are familiar with my other fics or my SotWK AU as a whole… it means they've really invested in my stuff.

🐚 ⇢ do you like or dislike surprises?

I enjoy being wholly surprised (good surprises, of course), but I don't like being told “a surprise is coming” and having to then think about it or stress out until its arrival. 

📚 ⇢ what's the last thing you wrote down in your notes app? 

A work-related reminder, which is boring. So I'm gonna answer this question by sharing something I wrote in my “Scratch Dump” document that I use for my headcanon drafting: Inscribed on the blade of the sword was Mirion’s personal oath to his people, written in Silvan: “Until my last breath, I will serve.”

🥐 ⇢ name one internet reference that will always make you laugh 

It’s probably because I’m fairly new to it (and because I enjoy the song/video), but the concept of internet friends Rickrolling each other as a prank seems so funny and wholesome to me.

El and Gareth absolutely adopt a dog as soon as they start living together. I imagine them going to an animal shelter just to look around, and El overhearing an employee saying “nobody will ever adopt this one, these dogs are monsters.” She instantly demands to see the monster dog, and of course it’s not a monster at all, it’s the cutest tiny little pit bull puppy, and El and Gare instantly fall in love with her and name her Bosco since she’s chocolate brown. 😊

🔪 ⇢ what's the weirdest topic you researched for a writing project?

Just recently I was trying to find out what long distance phone calls would cost in the 80s. I didn’t manage to get any info either.

My favorite Hellcheer fanart is this one, because this is the picture that inspired me to start writing.

Hi hello and thank you so much! :D <3 How did I get into writing fanfiction. Well, I was watching my favorite TV show at the time with which I was obsessed and I thought, “Fucking hell, they’re gonna mess up this relationship dynamic next episode, aren’t they?” And I was just like, “Welp, I better write what I think they ought to do before they fuck it all up I guess.” 

What I wrote was pretty shit, but I guess good enough, because this fandomer—and I would say she was the equivalent of a @capiturecs or @sitp-recs in HP fandom, somebody who made it their business to read a LOT of fic for the ship and who would readily hype and rec new and old writers alike—found my fic right away somehow and was like, “Oh, you need to post here and here and here,” and taught me about Yahoo groups (this was in 2001, I believe), and the rest is pretty much history. I simply never stopped. 

Share a head canon for one of your favourite ships or pairings. 

LOL as soon as I  get one I tend to write it into a fic, so I’m not altogether good at spontaneous head canons, I don’t think. Hmmm. I guess one of my favorites—and this isn’t a pairing thing—is that Harry and Ginny both realize their queerness through failing to make their own relationship work post-war. I mean, they had this crush in their school years almost entirely based around perceptions of who they were at the time and not necessarily the reality, and certainly not the reality of who they would become. Plus I think Harry conflates safety and love with all things Weasley, as naturally he would, and thus is like, oh hey, here’s the very heterosexual next step it seems like I should take toward maintaining that safety and sense of belonging for the rest of my life. And Ginny. I just want to be like, gosh, gurl, go find yourself! And I think she might find herself interested in pussy.

🍓 - How did you get into writing fanfiction?

Okay, so I've kind of been writing fic in my head (and sometimes in notebooks/random word documents) since I was about 8 years old, and I first realized that 'writing stories' was 1) a thing ANYONE could do, and also, sometimes, 2) a job that required refined skills, lol. When you're a kid you're told (if you're lucky) that you can do anything that you put your mind to, and little Sky loved stories more than most other things, so I couldn't imagine doing something with the rest of my life that didn't involve them! So I started practicing. The first fanfic I ever wrote was in a journal, and it was only a few pages long because I did not have great penmanship and was impatient with own slowness, lol. I'm fairly certain I was embarrassed by my efforts and threw them out. For a long time I wrote elaborate stories in my head instead, and didn't start actually doing the (MUCH harder) work of putting them on paper until high school. But I was also having a complex at that point in my life around acceptability/popularity and anxiety around being perceived as a nerd, so I was way too terrified to tell anyone I was writing it. And then I was so disillusioned by the meanness that I saw in online fandom spaces that it still took years before I got up the courage to post any of it publicly! I've had an ao3 account for the past decade, and was a lurker for a good five years before that, but I didn't start posting my own work until just under two years ago. That ought to say something, I think. 💀

LOL, heaven forbid I ever find myself in this situation, but if so...honestly probably you, lmao, and some other folks on here that I don't think have ever been involved in crimes, but are otherwise competent, functioning adults who don't shy away from difficult/grey situations - at least in fiction, lol. @60sec400 @darkmagyk @phykios @deerlie-main , I hope you are not insulted by this. 💀

🥤- recommend an author or fanfic you love

I just did this the other week - and apparently y'all really needed recs, wow! - so I'm kind of wracking my brain here to rec something I haven't already recommended recently...there are a LOT of good options to choose from! I guess I'll go with 'percy jackson and the scrutiny of his coworkers', which is an absolutely BRILLIANT outsider pov fic by pqrker on ao3. It's popular for a reason, and the reason being that it is perfect. 🥹

🧃- share some personal lore you've never posted about before

Ooooo, hmm, what to pick, what to pick...hmm, okay, I'll go with this. A segue from my first answer, lol. I was nominated for Homecoming Queen in high school, and was the first runner up, so - hilariously - became the Homecoming Princess. It was my teen movie Cinderella-story moment, because I had always been the shy nerd in the back of the classroom, but then all of a sudden was in a fancy dress on the football field getting a crown and wondering what parallel universe and/or Taylor Swift song I'd just fallen into. And weirdly enough, knowing that I hadn't done anything special to be nominated - that people had just liked me - went a long way towards me being able to accept myself more holistically. Maybe if they liked me enough for that, I could like me enough to try and see what they saw, you know? It was years ago now, but it is a fond and bizarre memory, and was very helpful to a confused and anxious 17 year old! 😅

I'm not entirely sure if this means personal fanlore like a headcanon or something lorey about me, so I'm going to sort of blend it and say: After 4x12, I was fully down for Tarlos never having kids. I thought it was quite a unique take to show a couple not being on the same page around starting a family, and it was something I related to a lot for personal reasons. However. However. Then out of the blue I felt ready to read read kidfic, having not really wanted to before. I read @welcometololaland's series Self Control? I Don't Know Her and @three-drink-amy's Teach You How Forever Feels and @ladytessa74's Elijah Verse and @bonheur-cafe's Pour me a cup (or two or three) and now I am obsessed with them becoming dads. Obsessed. I just really want it to happen. It's amazing the impact that fic can have. Everything I linked is so compelling and I just love it!

Honestly, I've had quite a major dip in confidence for a while now because of work. I feel like the job has grown way beyond my intelligence level and I'm scrambling up the learning curve like someone running along a bridge that is falling away behind them. It's getting me down! Also I guess it goes without saying but season 5 of 911 LS and the excitement but also trepidation about plotlines and things! Also I don't love my hair right now.

🐇 ⇢ do you prefer writing original characters, reader inserts, or a mix of both? 

Original characters, for sure. I'm not fond of reader inserts, nothing against who write/read them, but it's not for me because they feel a bit gaslighting. The few occasions I dare to read them I always say "I wouldn't f*ing say/do that!", and I feel I have no right to force the reader to feel/say/do things they normally wouldn't. I know it's fiction, but I cannot connect with reader inserts, neither in reading nor writing.

But unlike insert readers, the possibilities with original characters is infinite and there's no one that can say that the OC wouldn't react this or that way except me! (When I'm writing them ofc) And I accept whatever the OC's reaction is when I'm reading it bc it is what it is. I have no base to refute it.

Kalluzeb when they get hurt: two sides of the same coin

Zeb goes berserk when Kallus is in danger. Any imperial in a mile radius of them will have a gruesome demise. It's a little scary to witness. But later, he calms down once they're safe and patches Kallus up with utmost care. Kallus gets often hurt, so Zeb is an expert by now.

On the other hand, if it Zeb who gets hurt during a mission, Kallus keeps his head cold and do what he needs to do to get Zeb out of there. He's methodical and pragmatic about it. But once they're safe, Kallus crumbles. He can't deal with Zeb hurt. It messes with his head.

🌿 ⇢ give some advice on writer's block and low creativity

I struggle with this myself, but sometimes I do things that help me

Take a break from writing (sometimes even a short break is enough, sometimes you need days or weeks. It's okay)

But during the before mentioned break (especially the long ones) you can do other things, get out of your comfort zone. Read something (your favorite book or something new), watch tv shows/movies in a different genre/fandom you're writing for. Do another type of art, listen to music, etc.

Brainstorm with someone else (or several others). This is VERY IMPORTANT. Sometimes what we need to get unstuck is voicing the problem. I'd say that 7 out of 10 times, you'll find the solution by yourself while explaining the other person. If not, then your friend(s) will give you one, or at least, spark your imagination by telling you the detail you were missing.

Remember that even just a sentence written is progress.

And, even if it's often discouraged by many writing advice lists, edit that last portion of what you wrote and don't be afraid to discard what doesn't work (but don't delete it. You can save that for another story or later on in the same fic you're working on.). Doing this, you can make the story flow easily again.

I was a depressed, queer, rural teenager on Mugglenet lmao.

It's a very kitschy thing and when I was changing usernames back in the LJ days being from The Bottom Of The World was what most people associated with me, so I just embraced it. TBH I wish I could change it but I think that ship has sailed at this point.

🌸 Do you have any pets? if you do, post some pictures of them

I do! Two dogs and three cats. No pics, just please imagine a series of chaos demons and you pretty much have it right.

Don't read WIPs? I don't care, read this one. Not a polisci fan? I don't care, read this one. I CANNOT EXPRESS THE LEVEL TO WHICH NOT READING THIS FIC IS A GRAVE MISTAKE. Anytime someone asks for recs in my general vicinity, if there's even the slightest possibility of shoehorning this into whatever they asked for, I do it. No relationship angst, just fucking fantastic and immersive post-canon deliciousness. I reread this at LEAST once a month, it literally never gets old.

I knew someone was gonna ask one of the hard ones!!

The good news is this one is hard because there is just so much to choose from, and so many talented artists out there that I don't want to leave anyone out!!

I considered sending shout-outs to some of the Thunderfam artists who have multiple favourite artworks I love, those I've collaborated with, commissioned art from, or who have made fanart from one of my fics. Even then the list would be very long, so I hope you all know who you are!

So, I'm gonna go with a piece of art that I'd seen before I landed here and found the Thunderfam. One I'd probably stumbled across on that pinning site, by an artist whose works absolutely captivated me - @lenle-g

Amongst so many wonderful creations this one in particular is a favourite because it tells so many stories! I want to gush about all the little details in each little portrait, the expressions, the things they're doing, the details of the wallet and the table it's sitting on . . .

but I think the art speaks for itself far better than I can!
